A Luxurious Cruise From Singapore To Malaysia That Won't Force You To Declare Bankruptcy

Photo of Aakanksha Magan

South-East Asia is easily one of the most coveted destinations for Indian travellers. Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand , Indonesia are all countries that are favourites with Indians, whether they are travelling solo, with family or with partner. And one experience that enhances the overall vacation is a cruise. A cruise is something that can be clubbed with a vacation or can be taken as a vacation in itself. Going on a cruise is actually a great alternative to hectic 'land holidays'. Sailing on the crystal blue water of the sea with incredible views is an experience you will cherish lifelong.

Almost all South East Asian countries offer a cruise experience, from one-night cruises to 8-9 night cruises. But for a first time traveller, two nights is an ideal time to spend on a cruise ship and soak in the luxury offered.

My first cruise was also a 2N/3D cruise aboard SuperStar Gemini sailing from Singapore. I was hesitant because I suffer from motion sickness and I didn't know if I could even enjoy being onboard. But boy was I wrong! The ship is huge, so huge that you hardly feel it moving. And there's so much to do on board that you can't even think about motion or sea-sickness. The best part about the cruise was the food and the number of activities available on board. There is a gym and a jogging track, and I think with the amount of food available to hog, you will end up making use of those facilities. I did! The shows are so entertaining that you can't take your eyes off the stage. I took the cruise with my family and it was one of the most exhilarating and exciting vacation ever. I can't wait to go on my next cruise and this time it will be for a minimum of 8-9 days!

Why Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia should immediately go to the top of your travel wishlist

Kuala Lumpur should immediately go to the top of your travel wishlist. Photo / Getty Images

Malaysia’s capital is rapidly transforming into Asia’s coolest city. Here’s why it’s worth a visit – and why every visitor should explore beyond the Petronas Towers, writes Tamara Hinson

In the shadow of the twin-tipped Petronas Towers , an elderly lady tends to sizzling skewers of satay. Her workplace is one of the stalls on Jalan Raja Muda Musa, a street lined with wooden stilted houses dating back to the late 1800s. This is Kampung Baru, a small village in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, and a brilliant example of how reminders of the past are never far away in Malaysia’s capital.

READ MORE: What every visitor should see and do in Kuala Lumpur

In 1899 Malaysia’s British colonial administration created Kampung Baru (“new village”) as a home for Malaysian farmers, allowing them to continue to farm while living their lives free from the risk of development. In reality, the goal was to ensure their produce continued to feed the rapidly expanding city, but the fact that several of these wooden houses remain is a credit to both their inhabitants and the ancestors. It’s also one of the city’s most popular street food spots – not just for tourists, but locals, including some of Malaysia’s top chefs. “My heart belongs to Kampung Baru,” says Norazizi Taslim, executive chef at the St Regis Kuala Lumpur. “It’s steeped in tradition, and you’ll find fantastic street food, from juicy skewers of satay to ayam bakar (charcoal-grilled chicken), and every dish here tells a story of generations past.”

For now, Kampung Baru’s colourful stilted houses are safe, although 25 years after it was established, the Petronas Towers is no longer the only sky-scraping structure changing KL’s skyline. When the needle-like Merdeka 118 tower opens in late 2024, it will become the world’s second-tallest building. From the observatory on the 115th and 116th floors, visitors will be able to gaze down on Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown, another neighbourhood with a rich history. On an exploration of the area led by Kiran, a guide from A Chef’s Tour, a foray down a deserted Chinatown laneway leads me to Kwai Chai Hong, a narrow alley daubed with beautiful murals depicting life here in the 1960s. One of the artworks, painted onto the side of a shophouse, shows a Chinese calligrapher at work, while another depicts a boa-wearing lady smiling seductively from her window – a reminder that this area once had several brothels.

Nearby, history and modernity collide once more inside the Petaling Street Market. This tourist magnet’s central thoroughfare is lined with stalls piled with everything from fake Chanel bags to “I love Kuala Lumpur” t-shirts. But I recommend exploring the side alleys of this covered market – this is where I discover tiny stores specialising in everything from jade to Chinese medicine , and tailor shops where elderly women hunched over Singer sewing machines produce beautifully embroidered traditional dresses. On a nearby street, I grab an impromptu caffeine fix at Pucks Coffee , a recently opened coffee shop and co-working space with artfully exposed concrete flooring, marshmallow-like sofas and a wall featuring local photographers’ artwork. Co-founder Ozier tells me the aim was to create an inclusive space where great coffee, music and art were big focuses. “This part of Chinatown is a true melting pot,” he says. “It’s both local and international , and there’s a lot of history here, too.” I find further proof of that juxtaposition just a few metres away, at the stunning Sri Mahamariamman Temple, the city’s oldest Hindu temple. Its exterior comprises a five-tiered gopuram (monumental tower), and inside, I discover a main prayer hall surrounded by ornate frescos and shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

Chinatown is also a magnet for foodies. At Nam Heong Chicken Rice , I restore energy levels with the restaurant’s namesake dish. The restaurant was founded in 1938 and has since been given a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, presented to restaurants serving fantastic food at wallet-friendly prices. Nearby Lai Foong Lala Noodles might not boast the same history credentials (it was founded in 2008) but its most famous dish, lala (clam) noodle soup, certainly does. Owner Cindy Chai is a descendant of the Hakka, a seafaring people from Northern China who are regarded as excellent chefs.

Elsewhere, I discover a growing number of chefs serving up modern takes on traditional Malaysian cuisine. I’m not sure what Cindy Chai would make of Eat & Cook, a Michelin Guide-listed restaurant that describes itself as the world’s first Malaysian-style omakase, but it’s typical of KL’s culinary diversity. “Many restaurants are now focusing on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and heritage flavours which celebrate Malaysia’s agricultural richness,” says the restaurant’s founder Chef Lee Zhe Xi. His favourite dish is the paku (fern) salad with coconut sauce, fish garum and fermented coconut cheese. “It’s a dish which combines history with a modern twist of local flavour,” he says.

And these nods to Malaysia’s heritage are more accessible than ever before. Take the afternoon tea offered by the Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur . Here, alongside classics such as coronation chicken sandwiches, you’ll enjoy nods to the region thanks to treats like the blueberry and coconut scones. Other highlights include the Sabah black tea cake with bergamot jelly and a ginger compote with a fig leaf mousse.

The Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur is in Bukit Bintang, and part of a wider downtown area known as the Golden Triangle, although as the city expands other hubs are emerging. Chef Lee Zhe XI’s restaurant, Eat & Cook, is in Bukit Jalil, an area south of the city centre being referred to as its newest CBD, while KL’s newest leisure district is being touted as Exchange TRX, a sprawling downtown complex with a 400-store shopping centre and various hotels, restaurants and bars.

In late 2025, Malaysia’s first Kimpton hotel will open here. Incidentally, it’s one of several brands clamouring to open properties in Malaysia’s capital. The first Waldorf Astoria will open in the city centre by the end of 2025 in Bukit Bintang, where I spend an hour trying to escape from Malaysia’s largest shopping centre. Berjaya Times Square has over 1,000 stores and is so large it’s got an indoor rollercoaster. My top tip? For a retail therapy fix, head to nearby Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, which has a slightly less intimidating 700 stores. It’s also just across the road from my base, the Westin Kuala Lumpur. Stay here and you’ll have easy access to Pavilion but will also be just a short walk from the Petronas Towers, the Petaling Street market and Chinatown.

The Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is a shopping centre Bukit Bintang with over 700 retail establishments and restaurants.

Weirdly, despite the city’s expansion, exploring KL is a breeze. Transport options include an LRT, MRT, and monorail network. There’s also the lightning-fast KLIA Ekspres which takes just 28 minutes to speed from the airport to KL Sentral, a transportation hub that will undergo a major redevelopment in 2025. The city now has a hop on, hop off bus which offers two routes – a red route taking in city centre highlights such as the Petronas Towers and the National Library , and the green route, which I opt for. This one covers sites further afield, including the Jamek Mosque, Perdana Botanical Garden and the National Palace. On sunnier days, I recommend steering clear of the open-air top deck to avoid feeling like a satay stick cooking on a grill – the views from the enclosed sections are just as stunning.

Explore the city with the KL Hop On Hop Off.

On my final night, I head to Bukit Bintang’s Jalan Alor night market, where hungry locals share plastic tables with tourists sipping bottles of chilled Tiger beer. Personally, I recommend the nasi lemak or the rendang, although a quick peruse of the menu reveals no shortage of traditional cuisine – there are around a dozen varieties of frog-based dishes, for example, while pig’s intestines appear to be equally popular. I’m initially slightly confused by the large number of frog dishes involving a Marmite marinade, then I remember Chef Lee Zhe Xi’s comments about the growing popularity of dishes that honour the city’s history while incorporating a modern twist. And, let’s face it, Marmite-marinaded frog is surely a perfect example.

Cruise insurance can be any travel insurance policy that has the coverage features you want. It does not have to be a travel insurance policy with “cruise” in the policy name. It’s helpful to have missed connection coverage included in a cruise insurance policy, as the cost of catching up to a cruise can be significant.

Cruise insurance generally covers the following—up to your policy limits— if the expense is caused by a reason listed in your policy or not excluded from coverage:

  • Medical expenses
  • Emergency medical evacuation
  • Trip cancellation
  • Trip interruption
  • Missed connections
  • Lost, stolen, damaged or delayed baggage and personal items

A cruise travel insurance policy may also compensate you if your cruise ship is disabled and you’re stuck on board without power, food or water for a specified amount of time listed in your policy. For example, the WaveCare plan from Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection provides a flat $500 reimbursement for cruise disablement if you’re stuck on the ship for five hours or more without one of these: power, food, water or a restroom.

Typically, cruise insurance also provides a 24/7 hotline for travel emergencies. You can also get a pre-existing medical condition exclusion waiver if you buy coverage within a certain period, usually within 14 to 21 days of your initial trip deposit. This means medical expenses related to pre-existing conditions that arise during your trip will be covered.

Cruise insurance is worth considering if you can’t afford to lose the money you paid in advance for nonrefundable trip costs if you have to cancel your cruise.

Cruise insurance can also pay for costs associated with medical treatment during your trip, emergency medical evacuation, trip delays, lost luggage and more.

The average cost of cruise insurance is $457 per trip , based on Forbes Advisor’s analysis of rates for 37 cruise travel insurance plans.

Cruise insurance costs will generally depend on your age and the cost and length of your trip.

Below you’ll see examples of cruise insurance costs for the best cruise insurance policies.

You can buy cruise insurance from your cruise line, through a travel agent or from a travel insurance agent or company.

Although you can purchase a policy right up to your departure, there are advantages to buying travel insurance right after booking your trip . One is that you can maximize the length of your trip cancellation coverage. For example, if you buy a travel insurance policy three months before your departure and get seriously injured a week before you leave, you can file a trip cancellation claim.

Buying cruise insurance within the first two weeks or so of making your first trip deposit also qualifies you for additional coverage. This can include a pre-existing medical condition exclusion waiver or a “cancel for any reason” travel insurance (CFAR) upgrade, depending on the policy.

CFAR allows you to recoup 50% or 75% of your forfeited, nonrefundable trip costs, depending on your policy. You must cancel at least 48 hours prior to your departure. CFAR increases your travel insurance cost by about 50%.

If the dates of your trip change, your travel insurance company should allow you to change the dates of your policy to match the new travel dates. You can also add items to your itinerary later—such as shore excursions—and then add them to your travel insurance coverage.

Whether it’s your first voyage or you’re a cruise veteran, having the right travel insurance is important. This is especially true if you’re a senior traveler who wants a high level of medical coverage while traveling.

Here are good starting points for coverage you’ll likely want in a cruise insurance plan:

Trip Cancellation Insurance

Trip cancellation insurance reimburses you 100% for the pre-paid and non-refundable deposits you lose if you have to cancel for a reason covered by the policy .

Trip Interruption Coverage

This will reimburse you for unused trip costs if your trip is cut short because of illness, injury, death, a family emergency back home or other reasons. Trip interruption insurance can also pay for the extra expenses of a trip interruption, such as a one-way plane ticket home on short notice. The reason for the interruption has to be listed in the policy.

Travel Medical Insurance

This pays for medical expenses associated with injuries and illness you get while on the trip. The top travel insurance plans have $500,000 in travel medical insurance , but you might find $150,000 to be sufficient for a cruise. If you’re a senior, good travel medical coverage is crucial.

U.S. health plans may have very limited or no coverage when you’re outside the U.S. And Medicare doesn’t cover medical care outside the U.S., with only very narrow exceptions .

Emergency Medical Evacuation Coverage

Medical evacuation travel insurance covers the costs to get you to the nearest adequate medical facility or even back home if it’s medically required. Your travel insurer’s emergency assistance team can also help arrange for the medevac.

Coverage for Pre-existing Medical Conditions

Many travel insurance plans give you a pre-existing medical condition exclusion waiver if you buy the plan within two to three weeks after your first trip deposit. This is one of the advantages to buying travel insurance shortly after you book your trip. Without the waiver, medical expenses related to pre-existing conditions that flare up during your trip won’t be covered.

“Cancel for Any Reason” (CFAR) Travel Insurance

Canceling for reasons that aren’t listed in the policy isn’t covered, unless you have already purchased a CFAR upgrade. This typically reimburses you 75% of trip costs, as long as you cancel at least 48 hours before your departure. Adding it increases a policy cost by an average of 50%.

For example, you could make a “cancel for any reason” claim if you’re worried about being seasick—a reason not covered by standard trip cancellation insurance. Buy this coverage shortly after you make your first trip deposit or the purchase window for it will close.

“Interruption for Any Reason” Travel Insurance

Cutting a trip short for reasons that aren’t listed in the policy aren’t covered, unless you have already purchased “interruption for any reason” travel insurance. This coverage typically reimburses you 75% of trip costs. It usually adds 3% to 10% to your travel insurance cost. You generally must buy it within 15 to 20 days of making your first trip deposit. Benefits don’t kick in until you are a specified amount of time into your trip, for example 48 or 72 hours.

Only a few travel insurance companies currently offer “interruption for any reason” coverage, such as Nationwide, Seven Corners, Travel Insured International and WorldTrips.

Additional Types of Travel Insurance for Cruises

A comprehensive travel insurance plan will package additional benefits such as travel delay insurance , baggage insurance and missed connection travel insurance .

The best travel insurance plans offer high levels of reimbursement and short waiting periods for benefits to go into effect when things go wrong. A travel insurance agent can help you match your concerns to the right travel insurance package.

Case Study: Cruise Insurance Saves the Day, Again

I’ve unfortunately filed several cruise insurance claims in recent years, but I’m so grateful I had coverage. When my father passed away on the day we were set to depart, insurance reimbursed us over $3,000 for the trip cancellation. Later, my wife and I tested positive for Covid-19 in Paris right before our river cruise. We had to cancel and pay for a week’s stay in a pricey hotel, but insurance covered the entire $12,000 claim. Most recently, I was diagnosed with cancer before a cruise and had to cancel for surgery. The documentation was complex, but our policy paid the remaining $2,000 to $3,000 after refunds without hesitation. Travel insurance gave us peace of mind through it all.

– David R., Texas

Cruise insurance is worth it if you don’t want to risk losing the non-refundable money you invested in your trip if the unexpected happens. For example, let’s say you missed the boat. Cruise insurance can pay for you to rejoin the cruise if you can’t board on time because of an issue covered by the policy, such as severe weather.

The average cost of travel insurance is 5% to 6% of your trip cost, according to our analysis of travel insurance rates. That means cruise insurance might be worth it if:

  • Your non-refundable trip costs are much more than you can afford to lose.
  • You are traveling internationally and your U.S. health plan has limited coverage abroad.
  • You are traveling to a remote area with limited health care facilities and want insurance that will pay for medical transportation to an adequate medical facility.
  • You are traveling to a hurricane-prone area where your trip could be scuttled due to weather.
  • Your trip involves connecting flights or multiple destinations, which increase the chances of travel delays and lost baggage.
  • You want to be partially reimbursed if you decide to cancel your trip or return home early for any reason.

What Are the Travel Insurance Requirements of Different Cruise Lines?

Cruise lines departing the U.S. generally do not require travel insurance. But it’s a good idea to buy a policy that includes travel medical insurance and emergency evacuation insurance. That’s because U.S. health insurance is unlikely to cover you if you travel outside of the United States.

To find the best cruise insurance, Forbes Advisor analyzed travel insurance data to score travel insurance policies based on the following factors. We include only travel insurance policies that include missed connection coverage.

Missed connection coverage (up to 30% of score) : Plans with higher reimbursement levels for missed connections scored more points.

Average price (up to 25% of score) : We analyzed travel insurance quotes for a variety of traveler ages and trip costs to develop an average price for each plan. We scored the average cost for each travel insurance policy for trips to the popular destinations of Italy, Mexico, France and the U.K. for common traveler profiles:

  • Couple, age 30 for Mexico trip costing $3,000
  • Couple, age 40, for Italy trip costing $6,000
  • Family of four for Italy trip costing $15,000
  • Family of four for France trip costing $15,000
  • Family of four for U.K. trip costing $15,000
  • Couple, age 65, for Italy trip costing $6,000

How do I buy cruise insurance for a long-duration cruise?

The coverage in many travel insurance policies will max out at 90 days, so you’ll need to look for a travel insurance plan that can provide coverage for a long trip length.

For example, Allianz Global Assistance ’s OneTrip Premier Plan can cover a trip up to 366 days and includes $200,000 in trip cancellation coverage and $1 million in emergency medical evacuation benefits. It also provides trip cancellation coverage in the event that there is an NOAA hurricane warning at your destination.

How do I buy insurance for cruise shore excursions?

If your shore excursions are pricey, insure the nonrefundable deposits for the excursions and the cruise. If your excursions are included in the cruise cost, you would simply insure the cruise trip cost.

Travel medical insurance can cover medical expenses you incur while on and off the ship. But if your excursions involve adventure activities or extreme sports, be aware that many travel policies exclude these from coverage. Still, there are adventure travel policies and optional upgrades that will cover injuries due to activities such as mountain climbing, parasailing, skydiving and hot air ballooning.

Review your policy to be sure the plan you’re buying will cover your adventurous fun. If it doesn’t, ask about an adventure sports add-on, or consider a company such as World Nomads that caters to the adventurous traveler.

Do I need a special cruise insurance plan?

You don’t need a travel insurance plan that’s specifically for cruises. Any good travel insurance plan with generous medical benefits and the other benefits you want can work well for a cruise.

Can you buy cruise insurance after booking?

You can buy cruise insurance after booking your trip, right up until just before departure. The downside to waiting is that you likely won’t be able to cover pre-existing medical conditions, and you’ll lose the option to add cancel for any reason coverage.

Buying right after you book also lets you lock in trip cancellation coverage right away.

Can I cancel a cruise without insurance?

You can cancel a cruise, but may have to pay a cancellation penalty for the cruise and/or flights. You could also lose the cost of pre-paid shore excursions. If you don’t have travel insurance for these losses, check the credit card you used for booking. Some credit cards include trip cancellation coverage.

Feds find child porn on phones of 3 men who arrived on South Florida cruises: police

When three men arrived on cruise ships in South Florida this week, Border Protection agents made concerning discoveries on their phones. The men, which included two cruise ship crew members, had multiple saved videos of child sex abuse, according to agents.

The first finding came Saturday after U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspected the belongings of Dakota Anthony Ferguson, 22, a federal criminal complaint read.

Ferguson had just arrived at Port Everglades from Mexico on the Disney Magic cruise ship, though it’s unclear whether he was a passenger or crew member. Border Protection agents stopped Ferguson, searched him and found his iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Proceeding to sift through the phone, agents uncovered numerous child pornography video — the majority of which filmed “prepubescent” girls being raped, the complaint read.

Ferguson was arrested and charged with transportation of child pornography and four counts of possession of child pornography. As of Wednesday night, he still remained in the Broward Jail, records show.

After his arrest, agents said Ferguson admitted to them that he had been watching child porn for the last three years on Telegram and X involving children aged from 2 to 17 years old. He even shared child porn with others but denied creating them, the complaint read.

In Ohio, Ferguson has a similar active criminal case in which he was charged with two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in 2021, court records reveal. He’s since pleaded not guilty.

Cruise ship workers arrested minutes apart

On Monday morning, Border Protection agents searched the cabin of Imadewisma Dana, a 28-year-old Indonesian man, an arrest report read. He’s a crew worker for an undisclosed cruise ship.

An agent discovered five videos of child sex abuse on his phones, which showed boys and girls between about 6 to 14 years old being raped.

Dana was arrested and charged with five counts of possessing images of sexual performance by a child and is being held for immigration. As of Wednesday, he still remained in the Miami-Dade County jail.

After he was arrested, agents said he told them he was not aware of child porn and he didn’t have a “special preference” for children.

About 10 minutes after Dana’s room search, agents also conducted a routine cabin inspection of Iputuagus Karnawan’s room, an arrest report read. Karnawan is also a cruise line worker, though the company is unclear nor did they indicate whether he had any connection to Dana.

Agents also searched his phone, where they discovered that Karnawan had four videos of child porn. The footage depicted girls from the age of about 12 to 15 being raped.

The 28-year-old was arrested and charged with four counts of possessing images of sexual performance by a child and is being held for immigration. As of late Wednesday, he still remained in the Miami-Dade County jail.

Southeast Asian destinations take top ranks in Mastercard CrescentRating GMTI 2024

' src=

Southeast Asia has once again emerged as the world’s leading Muslim tourist destination in the latest edition of the Mastercard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI), with Indonesia and Malaysia tied for the top spot among 145 destinations in the 2024 study.  Meanwhile, Singapore has consistently led among Non-Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC 1 ) destinations for the ninth consecutive year, underscoring its unwavering dedication to cater to Muslim  travelers by widespread availability of Halal food, prayer facilities, suitable airport amenities, and  Muslim-friendly accommodation.

singapore to malaysia cruise travel time

According to the report, the Muslim travel market is set for a significant uptick this year, with global international arrivals potentially reaching up to 168 million, exceeding pre-pandemic levels by as much  as 5 percent. This growth in volume highlights the rising prominence of the segment, driven by  demographic and economic expansion, cultural and Halal tourism development, and technological  advancements that enable more personalized travel experiences for Muslim travellers, such as apps  that locate Halal food outlets, Qibla directions, and prayer timings. The impact of artificial intelligence  is also helping further customize travel experiences to simplify travel logistics while adhering to faith  traditions.

Retaining their joint top position as the leading OIC 2 destinations for Muslim travellers for the 2 nd consecutive year, Indonesia and Malaysia also scored favourably on ease of entry and quality of tourism  infrastructure for both Muslim and non-Muslim travellers.

Thailand maintained its position in the top five non-OIC destinations, owing to efforts towards promoting Halal tourism like increasing Halal food availability, integration of Muslim-friendly amenities at tourist spots, and enhanced accommodation and dining options for Muslim travelers.

singapore to malaysia cruise travel time

Meanwhile, the Philippines recorded an increase in its score on communications compared to 2023.  Among non-OIC destinations, the Philippines has steadily increased its appeal to Muslim tourists by  strategically developing their Halal Tourism portfolio, enhancing halal accreditation of hotels and restaurants, and conducting Halal awareness orientations. This effort builds on their achievement of winning the Emerging Muslim-friendly Destination of the Year award in last year’s Halal in Travel  Global Summit, based on GMTI 2023 results.

GMTI, now in its ninth year, analyzes data across 145 destinations using the ACES framework, built around metrics on Access, Communication, Environment, and Services. Over time, the criteria have evolved to keep pace with the changing needs of Muslim travelers. This year, new metrics on availability of facilities and services for travelers with disabilities were added to the model.

“It is encouraging to see that the travel sectors in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore not only maintained their rankings in this year’s GMTI, but also improved their individual scores. This reflects a broader trend of increased consideration for Muslim travelers, with average scores across the Index  rising by 10 percent,” said Fazal Bahardeen, Founder & CEO, CrescentRating.  Bahardeen also added: “It is also positive to see the Philippines continue to improve its score, which demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Department of Tourism to bolstering Muslim-friendly tourism and advancing the destination’s appeal. As Muslim travel continues to gain momentum, the GMTI 2024 report provides invaluable insights for stakeholders across the travel and tourism sector to leverage the growing Muslim travel market.”

Safdar Khan, Division President, Southeast Asia, Mastercard, said: “According to the latest report from the Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI), travellers from and to Southeast Asia are becoming increasingly focused on getting the best value from their trips to ensure the most unforgettable  experiences, a shift echoed in the rapidly growing global Halal tourism industry. At the same time, technology is helping this demographic to travel in ways that meet their unique needs, from AI

powered hyper-personalized experiences to Mastercard’s own enablement of easy and secure cross border payments. Together this heralds a new level of convenience for Muslim travellers and unlocks  a new era of growth and profitability for travel operators. Mastercard’s long-running collaboration with CrescentRating is both a testament to the strength of the partnership and the ongoing  importance of understanding and serving Muslim travelers.”
