Introducing Travel + Leisure Co.

travel and leisure resorts

Dear Owners,

On Feb. 17, 2021, our parent company was renamed Travel + Leisure Co. and made its debut as the world's leading membership and leisure travel company, with a portfolio of nearly 20 resort, travel club, and lifestyle travel brands. A link to a press release with more details is available  here .

As we shared in January when we announced the acquisition of the iconic Travel + Leisure brand, Travel + Leisure Co. will be supported by three branded business lines. Wyndham Destinations has become the umbrella brand for our vacation ownership clubs business line.

This transition to Travel + Leisure Co. as the parent company over Wyndham Destinations will not directly affect WorldMark by Wyndham or its products or club offerings. You will continue to enjoy your beautiful timeshare properties and exceptional benefits. This news does not impact any current contracts, and we do not anticipate any changes to our services. You may continue to leverage the award-winning Wyndham Rewards program, just as you always have.

We are excited about our future, and are proud to be a part of a thriving travel business that is committed to ongoing innovation, growth, and strategies that benefit our customers and stakeholders. As always, thank you for your continued loyalty and support. We look forward to helping you fulfill your vacation dreams.

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Travel + Leisure Co. (NYSE:TNL), the world’s leading membership and leisure travel company, and Sports Hospitality Ventures, LLC, hotel and resorts licensee for the Sports Illustrated brand across North America and the Caribbean, introduced a new concept for a network of future sports-themed resort and lifestyle complexes located in popular college towns near universities with devoted fan bases.

Every Sports Illustrated Resorts campus is expected to feature a full-service hotel, a vacation club, and residential condominiums – all of which will share a unique, cohesive design that immerses guests and owners in iconic moments from nearly 70 years of Sports Illustrated content. All resort campuses will also include a host of branded, one-of-a-kind attractions from live action sports and entertainment to quality dining, wellness, and relaxation. In addition to the planned university locations, the broader portfolio of properties is expected to include chic beach clubs and experience parks located in leading leisure destinations.

“Sports Illustrated Resorts are about hospitality, lifestyle, leisure and entertainment where we celebrate not only the legacy of Sports Illustrated , but the path it is on now, by immersing our guests in sports culture and providing the best entertainment, cuisine, fitness, health and wellness to our guests,” said Christopher Schroeder, CEO of Sports Hospitality Ventures, LLC. “People are seeking differentiated experiences that allow them to be more active and participatory, and Sports Illustrated Resorts are delivering the ultimate experiences for guests through the hospitality destinations we are creating.”

Sports Illustrated Resorts

Sports Illustrated Resorts is developing a vibrant, exciting, and interactive experience that celebrates the legacy of 70 years of Sports Illustrated through several different product types to meet a vast array of market interests. From its larger format resorts complete with interactive experience parks, to college town resorts, to chic, boutique beach clubs, Sports Illustrated Resorts is focused on opening properties in major leisure destinations, high traffic urban centers, university towns, and sports and entertainment districts.

The first Sports Illustrated Resorts property opened in 2022 in Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. Cap Cana is located in one of the largest and most exclusive resort developments in the Western Hemisphere, offering an array of activities and area amenities, including golf, sportfishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, water sports, ziplining, biking, hiking and more.

The first major Sports Illustrated Resorts college town destination will be in Tuscaloosa, the home of the University of Alabama. This property will capture the essence of sports and active lifestyle, complete with a full-service hotel, vacation ownership club, signature SI Fit Health/Wellness Center, world-class dining, entertainment and more.

Sports Illustrated Resorts vacation club

A brand-new product, the vacation club will bring loyal fans and their friends and families together by elevating their accommodation experience even further. For the cost of an initial membership, Sports Illustrated vacation club members will receive flexible points-based currency to make repeat resort reservations and utilize offerings from across the growing Sports Illustrated Resorts portfolio.

Travel + Leisure Co. is leveraging its expertise in managing multiple brand partnerships for the development, distribution, and management for the new Sports Illustrated vacation club product.

“We’re excited to be working with the Sports Hospitality Ventures team to create a custom club experience for passionate sports fans,” said Geoff Richards, chief operating officer of vacation ownership at Travel + Leisure Co. “Our vision for this entirely new vacation club is to provide members a unique opportunity to totally immerse themselves in gameday life with a piece of their favorite college town, plus flexibility to travel away with their team and beyond.”

Through the assistance of Wolfson Partners LLC, and in partnership with Sports Hospitality Ventures and Authentic Brands Group, a brand development, marketing and entertainment company and owner of the Sports Illustrated brand, Travel + Leisure Co. acquired the rights to the vacation ownership business for Sports Illustrated and will develop and operate the sales and marketing of the new Sports Illustrated vacation club, as well as certain Sports Illustrated residential condominiums.

Sports Illustrated residences

Sports Illustrated residences will be fractional and wholly owned condominiums professionally managed through a partnership between Travel + Leisure Co. and Sports Hospitality Ventures, to deliver the signature services and amenities offered by Sports Illustrated Resorts to owners designed to support an active lifestyle.

First resort planned at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa

The companies also announced that the first location for the line of planned college town resorts in the Sports Illustrated Resorts network will be in Tuscaloosa, Ala., situated across the Black Warrior River from the University of Alabama.

As an institution steeped in rich sports history and tradition, the University of Alabama has been featured on the Sports Illustrated cover more than any other university. This year, Tuscaloosa was named by Travel + Leisure as one of the 25 best college towns in the U.S.

Leveraging strong partnerships as the resort network grows

Sports Hospitality Ventures, under license from Authentic Brands Group (Authentic), launched Sports Illustrated Resorts in 2022 to create new premium, lifestyle resort and entertainment destinations.

Kituwah LLC, the business entity of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, a federally recognized tribe, bring a wealth of hospitality, development, and market knowledge as partners of Sports Hospitality Ventures, in addition to a capital commitment of $320 million to expand the Sports Illustrated Resorts brand.

“The Cherokee cultural values have been at the core of our mission at Kituwah LLC since the beginning of this exciting partnership,” said Mark Hubble, CEO of Kituwah LLC. “We look forward to sharing the concepts that have existed in harmony for millennia to the world through the support of the experienced partners we have assembled in this endeavor.”

As the companies begin work on the planned Tuscaloosa resort campus, additional college town destinations are expected to be announced in the future.

“This project is a tangible demonstration of our multi-brand strategy to grow our business with new exciting partnerships,” said Michael D. Brown, president and CEO of Travel + Leisure Co. “As the world’s leading membership and leisure travel company, we are uniquely positioned to be able to partner with brands and hospitality companies to develop customized vacation club products for their customers.”

The new resorts are anticipated to be developed using an asset-light development financing model. It is expected that the Tuscaloosa resort will open in late 2025. There is no immediate earnings impact for Travel + Leisure Co., but the company expects this business to drive incremental growth starting in the second half of 2025.

The Peninsula

“Anywhere in the world where there’s a Peninsula, I’m there, because it reminds me of my childhood in Asia. I can be assured that the room will be exquisitely appointed, with the Peninsula-only bells and whistles, and the breakfast buffet will be incredible.” — Kevin Kwan , author

Hôtel Plaza Athénée

Le Pavillon de la Reine

“Quiet, regal, and hiding in plain sight, like a mini–Garden of Eden. We were introduced to it by Karl Lagerfeld, who told us he once lived across the Vosges in a dingy but splendid attic room, and from his tiny balcony he could peer into the Pavillon’s attic rooms.” — Ruben Toledo , artist

Hôtel Récamier , 3 bis Place Saint-Sulpice

“Named for Juliette Récamier, one of the leaders of the French Fashion Revolution, this small and exquisite hotel is tucked into a corner of the elegant Place Saint Sulpice. It's near the rue Bonaparte, married name of Juliette's companion-in-style Joséphine, as well as some of the best Paris shopping, and the delicious Poîlane bakery.” — Anne Higonnet , art historian

Le Royal Monceau — Raffles Paris

“I love the playfulness of its decor and the clearly Parisian clientele in its restaurants (key to any city hotel). And its location makes me swoon: the Arc de Triomphe closing it off at one end, and Parc Monceau on the other, redolent of Proust’s presence.” — Klara Glowczewska , T&C executive travel editor

Le Pavillon Faubourg Saint-Germain

Le Pavillon Faubourg Saint-Germain , 5 Rue du Pré-aux-Clercs

Wherever I go, the first criteria for me is the location. The ultimate luxury for me is to be able to visit a city by foot! AUTRES CHOSES We also love the Saint James Paris in the 16th, because it's like your own château in the middle of the city, and the Four Seasons George V , because they treat you like royalty.

Et Hors Paris?

If you want to get out of the city (but not venture too far), we have opinions about that, too., airelles château de versailles.

airelles versailles

"Oscar Wilde said when good Americans die, they go to Paris. Well, the very best ones go to Le Grand Contrôle, which is worth the stay just to have the Hall of Mirrors all to yourself after the public is gone. Borrow bikes and ride around Versailles’s famous Le Nôtre gardens. The Alain Ducasse restaurant can set up a picnic lunch for you." — Bronson van Wyck , event planner

Domaine de Primard

"If there was a platonic ideal of a French country house, this would be it. The scent of lilac and the peach orchards, the vegetable garden and the adorable farm animals, the supremely comfortable beds and delicious food. Oh, and have I mentioned this all used to be Catherine Deneuve's estate?" — Leena Kim , T&C editor

Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay

a bedroom with a large bed

For a certain fashionable crowd, a few stops on the Parisian itinerary are obligatory. Caviar Kaspia, for instance. Or Le Voltaire for the fries. Hôtel de la Marine and Galerie Kugel, too. Lately, come le week-end, you'll find these jetsetters holding court at L'Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay, a former 12th-century monastery that was reborn in the 1800s as a country home for a Rothschild. Then a few years ago, hospitality firm Paris Society acquired the landmark site to turn it into a hotel. And who did they call on to decorate? Cordelia de Castellane, the creative mind behind Baby Dior and Dior Maison.

The most popular summer resorts in Russia (PHOTOS)

Any plans for the summer?

Any plans for the summer?

The majority of Russian citizens spend their holidays within the country; in summer, they don’t just go to relax at the seaside, but also venture out to see new natural or architectural attractions their vast country has to offer.

1. Sochi, Krasnodar Territory

travel and leisure resorts

This city on the Black Sea coast heads the list of summer travel destinations year after year. It has a pleasant subtropical climate, a variety of equipped and “wild” beaches, cafes, discos - and picturesque mountains around it. For those who want to improve their health, there are also dozens of different health spas, as well as real thermal springs (read more here ).

2. Anapa, Krasnodar Territory

travel and leisure resorts

Krasnodar Territory is, overall, the most “resorty” place in Russia, with a very well-developed tourist infrastructure. Apart from Sochi, the resort cities of Gelendzhik, Tuapse and the surroundings of the Taman Peninsula are really popular. The city of Anapa is famous as the main children’s resort. The sea depth near the coasts of Anapa is shallow and the entrance to the water is especially convenient for children. Adults, of course, will be interested in visiting sand dunes  and walking through the ancient city.

3. The southern coast of Crimea

travel and leisure resorts

Crimea has a very diverse nature and climate; there’s steppes, mountains and subtropics. The most popular places for holidays are located on the southern coast of the peninsula. Yalta, Sudak, Alushta are cities with great beaches, sanatoriums and a rich cultural life. Aside from that, wine tourism is very developed here – visiting wineries and tasting wines is a must!

4. Chemal, the Republic of Altai

travel and leisure resorts

A journey through the mountains of Altai is a dream for many fans of hiking. There are trails for different training levels, hiking bases, but what’s most important – the opportunity to witness the unique beauty of Siberia. The small village of Chemal turns into a true tourist center during summer. Nearby, there’s the rock island Patmos with a monastery, the Museum of Altai Life, trout lakes, equestrian bases, as well as hiking bases for travelers who enjoy river rafting.

5. Lake Elton, Volgograd Region

travel and leisure resorts

The largest salt lake in Europe (with a surface area of more than 150 square kilometers) is located in the south of Russia. At sundowns and sunrises, the lake turns golden-pink – because of Dunaliella salina microorganisms and the reflection of its sandy bottom in clear water. There are hiking bases on the shores of Lake Elton, where all those who want to enjoy the beauty of this lake stay (read more about Russia’s many colorful lakes here ).

6. Lake Baikal, Irkutsk Region and the Republic of Buryatia

travel and leisure resorts

Lake Baikal is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Russia year-round. While people visit in winter to see the extraordinary ice , summer is the time for outdoor recreation, trips along the Circum–Baikal railway  and, of course, for getting acquainted with the ancient culture of these parts.

7. Zelenogradsk, Kaliningrad Region

travel and leisure resorts

The resorts of the Baltic Sea are colder than the south of the country, but they are no less interesting. The city of Zelenogradsk is one of the most visited places in summer, famous for its wide sandy beaches with dunes and for its old European architecture. It’s also dubbed the “city of cats”. Zelenogradsk has a cat museum ‘Murarium’, a lot of cat-themed art objects, a cat traffic light and even a special personality – a cat-chief – who ensures that all the street cats are vigorous, cheerful and well-fed!

8. Lake Seliger, Tver Region

travel and leisure resorts

This is an unbelievably popular place for outdoor camping. In reality, Seliger is not just one lake, but about thirty bodies of water of different depths and sizes. Aside from beaches and kayaking, Seliger also attracts pilgrims. Seliger has one of the most beautiful island monasteries , the Nilo-Stolobensky Monastery.

9. St. Petersburg

travel and leisure resorts

June in the Russian north is the time of White Nights and many citizens of the country strive to witness them specifically in St. Petersburg. Drawn bridges, old architecture and rooftop walks – this is a truly romantic adventure. Read more about what happens in the city in summer here .

10. Ladoga Skerries National Park, the Republic of Karelia

travel and leisure resorts

This small republic in the northwest of Russia is rich with blue lakes, marble canyons and mountain forests with colossal boulders. Ladoga Skerries is one of the most beautiful national parks with a hundred islands and bays lost in the Karelian forests. There’s also Baltic seals!

The Moscow Metro Is Offering Virtual Tours of Its Famously Beautiful Subway Stations (Video)

Since 1971, Travel + Leisure editors have followed one mission: to inform, inspire, and guide travelers to have deeper, more meaningful experiences. T+L's editors have traveled to countries all over the world, having flown, sailed, road tripped, and taken the train countless miles. They've visited small towns and big cities, hidden gems and popular destinations, beaches and mountains, and everything in between. With a breadth of knowledge about destinations around the globe, air travel, cruises, hotels, food and drinks, outdoor adventure, and more, they are able to take their real-world experience and provide readers with tried-and-tested trip ideas, in-depth intel, and inspiration at every point of a journey.

The Moscow Metro is among the city's most popular tourist attractions; from Soviet design to hyper-modern architecture, each station has a unique history and identity. But while the Metro is still functioning, the city's recent lockdown means the best option is to enjoy its iconic stations online.

A few weeks ago, the Moscow Metro Career Guidance Center announced that it will be offering five virtual activities per day, including guided tours and history talks about all things underground, through its official Instagram account. Each morning Moscow time, @profmetro posts a schedule of events that will be aired in their stories. These include architecture tours, behind-the-scenes footage of control rooms and training centers, and even access to historic stations that have been closed for years. Most of the content is in Russian, without subtitles, but English-language lectures are launching next week.

Operating since 1935, the Moscow Metro is the sixth busiest rapid transit system in the world, and the fifth in terms of track length. At time of writing, it has 236 working stations, with dozens more coming by 2023.

Can't-miss stations include Mayakovskaya, named after Vladimir Mayakovsky, one of the most renowned Russian poets of the 20 th century — it feels more like a swanky ballroom than a busy central subway station. Don't forget to look up: there are 34 different ceiling mosaics based on the work of prominent Soviet artist Aleksandr Deineka. The 1938 Ploshchad Revolyutsii station, near Red Square, features 76 bronze statues by socialist realist sculptor Matvey Manizer. Novoslobodskaya station, opened in 1952, is famous for its 32 stained glass windows, while the palace-like Komsomolskaya station blends grand French Empire style with Soviet aesthetics. Slavyanskiy Bulvar, a newer station opened in 2008, has a geometric vaulted ceiling with many shades of marble and Art Nouveau elements inspired by the Paris Metro.

Want even more ways to explore? The website Metro 360 lets you take immersive tours of the Koltsevaya circle line, which has some of the most beautiful stations in the city, and is compatible with VR technology. Metro Walks offers photography and historical background for some of the most exquisitely designed stations, and for a meditative moment, YouTube user Anton V. has uploaded a relaxing video of a late-night ride on the newer Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line.
