Our Travels

Helene de jager – cairo.

A visit to Khan El Khalili Market, the biggest bazaar in the Middle East is a must.

Helene de Jager of Harvey World Travel Oudtshoorn talks about visiting Cairo

How did you get to Cairo?

I flew with Egypt Air direct to Cairo. The flight was comfortable with good leg space.

Where did you stay in Cairo?

We stayed at the beautiful 5* Sofitel El Gezirah Hotel on the Nile river. Every room has a view of the river and at breakfast you can almost sit with your feet in the Nile!

When is a good time to visit Egypt?

Anytime after August until May - the cooler months. June, July and August are very hot – around 40ºC!

What should you do when in Cairo?

A visit to Khan El Khalili Market, the biggest bazaar in the Middle East is a must. Remember to bargain your way through any purchase – half the asking price is what you should settle for! And of course you have to visit the amazing pyramids of Giza as well as the Egyptian Museum.

What did you enjoy most on this trip?

I loved the Sound and Light show at the Pyramids - the Sphinx and Pyramids make and awesome backdrop for this spectacular show. The Sphinx plays the role of storyteller, describing the history of ancient Egypt and really helps one understand the past much better. Take something warm since the desert can get cold at night.

Did you enjoy Egyptian food?

The food was generally very good and in some ways quite similar to our South African food. We had good chicken, sometimes red meat and lots of vegetables - all well prepared. And they love serving chips with almost every meal.

Your favourite food/meal?

The Egyptians love cooking with pulses and beans and they make a wonderful creamy lentil soup. I also loved the different flat breads with hummus, eggplant dip and other meze.

What can you buy in the markets of Cairo?

Perfume oils are very popular, marble statues, spices from the souk markets, kelims, leather…

What should you not forget to take with when going to Egypt?

Sunglasses, comfortable clothes, sunscreen and a hat. And a camera that works!!

Did you enjoy the Egyptian people and culture?

I found the organised chaos of the city fascinating. And the best is that in all this chaos of a city like Cairo, people have respect for each other. You don’t see men arguing and hitting each other; cars drive in total chaos but still no one scream and shout at the next person. There seems to be discipline and politeness between people. I think we can all learn from this. The presence of the police in all corners is also very reassuring. They patrol the busses, markets, streets, tourist areas etc and are friendly and helpful. We never felt unsafe.

Travel tips to Egypt?

Do your homework. The history of the country makes so much more sense if you have some background. Drink only bottled water. You can draw money in Cairo with most major credit and debit cards - a hassle free way for money issues. Try stick to at least 4* hotels when staying in Cairo. Departures at Cairo airport are quite strict – make sure that your forms a filled in and paperwork sorted.

Could one easily attempt Egypt without a packaged tour?

We would recommend that you use a good tour operator to assist you on your tour and that you book as much as you can before leaving.

Would you go back to Cairo?

Definitely but I would go in the cooler months and try to see a bit more of Egypt and definitely include a 3 day cruise on the Nile.

I never travel without…

Eyedrops, sunglasses, headache tablets and med lemon

Nadine Smal-Club Med-Mauritius

Nadine Smal - Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers

There are 2 different Club Med resorts on Mauritius.

There are 2 different Club Med resorts on Mauritius – and it’s vital that you choose the correct one to suit your needs as they are vastly different! This one, the Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers, offers the traditional child/family friendly, all inclusive experience that the Club Med brand has become famous for – but if you’re a couple looking for a quiet romantic break then you’d be far better off heading to their upmarket new Club Med La Plantation d’Albion nearby.

With Mauritius having become fairly notorious for its high drinks prices, the all inclusive formula pioneered by Club Med has become increasingly popular amongst South Africans. The other aspect that Club Med has built a reputation for is the way that kids are specifically catered for at their resorts with them boasting some of the best kid’s clubs in the business – throw in the wide range of activities on offer and it’s little wonder that Club Med has become established as a firm favourite for South Africans looking for the ideal family beach holiday. This is one resort where kids are likely to have a great time and collapse every night after another day packed with fun, sun and excitement whilst parents can enjoy a bit of a break from being the entertainment committee!

Originally built back in 1973, Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers is found in the far north of the island, just 5 minutes drive from Grand Baie with its bustling shops, boutiques and bars. The resort overlooks a long stretch of white sand beach lined with loungers and thatched parasols for guests to sprawl on, as well as a smaller arc of sand a little further away from the heart of the resort – they may not reach the heights of some of the best beaches on the island, but certainly provide a very pleasant and safe environment for kids to have fun both on the sand and in the water. Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers certainly offers plenty to do in the resort plus lots of well-organized excursions to make the most of your island visit. There is a wide range of sports on offer which include wake boarding, windsurfing, snorkelling, catamaran sailing, water skiing, kayaking, tennis, archery, fitness, soccer and volley ball. Most sports (with the exception of golf, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving) are included in the package price and lessons are also free of charge, which makes the Club Med a great place to learn new skills whilst enjoying your island holiday.

Whilst the emphasis here is definitely not on luxurious accommodation, it’s notable that a recent renovation has left this particular Club Med with rooms that are attractive, bright and cheerful and bang up to date. Depending on your budget, the resort’s 280 rooms are made up of 3 room types: the entry level Club Rooms with either garden or sea views are attractive but quite small; then there are the slightly larger and more stylish Deluxe Rooms; and finally the spacious Suites which boast a separate lounge area. In keeping with the family friendly theme, many interconnecting rooms are available here so parents can have a bit of privacy and space whilst the kids run amok next door.

If you’re a fan of buffets, then you’ve definitely come to the right place. Le Belle Créole is the main restaurant where a vast variety of dishes is served at the buffet at all mealtimes. There’s even a Baby Zone where parents can prepare meals for their sprogs! Another option is Le Paul et Virginie, the beach restaurant located just a few yards from the beach, where you can enjoy casual lunches and more refined dinners with waiter service in an atmosphere of quiet refinement. There are also 3 bars including one open to midnight and a nightclub with a live band where parents can let their hair down after the kids have hit the sack.

A great way to experience the Serengeti is to embark on a fully organised tour.

Serengeti - Our African Safari

A great way to experience the Serengeti and the wildebeest crossing is to embark on a fully organised tour, as this group of local travellers from George recently did. Here they share their journey with us.

‘We flew from Johannesburg to Nairobi and after a few hours spent shopping for perfumes and mosquito sprays, we departed for Kilimanjaro airport outside Arusha in Tanzania. Our friendly drivers from Predators Safari Group collected us at the airport for our transfer to the Serena Mountain Lodge, set in a spectacular garden setting formerly the home of a German coffee farmer. The coffee plantations are still being cultivated and the drive set the scene for the tropical vegetation which we were to experience for the next few days.

We spent the next morning in Arusha, the third largest town in Tanzania with a population of two million people, before setting off on two comfortable vehicles for Lake Manyara Game Park - home of the famous tree lions as well as the glorious pink flamingoes over the soda lake. What a sight! Lake Manyara Serena Lodge was, once again, very comfortable with fantastic meals and great service.

The next day saw us heading for the Ngorongoro Crater and a 6 hour game drive in the most surreal and almost Disney-like animal kingdom! We descended 600 meters into the crater, driving through fever tree forests and dry savannah plains where the German colonists farmed sisal in days gone by. We had lion resting next to our vehicles, saw hippos wallowing in their pools, plenty hyena and even encountered the black rhino.

We descended from the heights of the crater on day three to visit the Olderpai Gorge, now a world heritage site where fossilized footprints and skeletons were discovered in the 1930's. We then moved on to the Ndutu Conservancy Area, encountering several Masai villages en route. Ndutu is an extremely rewarding destination with animals in abundance. Our two-day stay here was scarcely sufficient to absorb it all.

Finally we travelled the 150km to the Serengeti Plains on one of the most spectacular game-drives ever experienced. We passed by numerous granite outcrops, streams and mimosa acacia trees where lion, cheetah and leopard were sighted along with many herds of wildebeest and zebra.

Leaving this magical place was an emotional experience for all of us and an experience we will cherish for life.

travel agencies george

George’s love of travel began at a young age when his family took traditional summer vacations, driving across America towing an RV.  They visited some great locations like Nashville, Bowling Green, Myrtle Beach, Cape Cod, and even visited our neighbors to the North, Canada!  For his 25th wedding anniversary, George and his wife took their first cruise sailing on the newly built Carnival Breeze, and that’s when the travel bug really started!  George had just as much fun planning the trip as he did on the trip, and met a travel agent onboard who advised him on how to get started.

“For his 25th wedding anniversary, George and his wife took their first cruise sailing on the newly built Carnival Breeze, and that’s when the travel bug really started!  “

As a travel agent, George has taken Caribbean and Canadian cruises, and will experience his first Alaskan cruise in June.  He’s also become a big fan of all-inclusive resorts which have become his niche for booking travel. He’s a lifelong Disney fan, and visits the parks as often as possible. He made his first visit to Disneyland last year as part of an Adventures by Disney Backstage Magic tour.

George has completed the Royal Caribbean University of WoW training, is a graduate of the College of Disney Knowledge and is an AM Resorts Master Agent. George is married to his wonderful wife Elaine, and has two grown Daughters, Danielle and Samantha.

Terance mann gives thoughts on sixers target paul george's free agency, share this article.

Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George is the top target of the Philadelphia 76ers in the upcoming free agency market. The Sixers will have a ton of cap space and need to add a wing player who can produce on both ends of the floor.

Therefore, George makes the most sense. He is coming off another All-Star season and Philadelphia has the money to throw at him. He would be a nice fit next to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in order to seriously challenge the Boston Celtics in the East.

Clippers starter Terance Mann hopped on Fan Duel’s “Run it Back” and gave his thoughts on George’s free agency as he hopes PG-13 will be back in LA:

I hope so. You ever know with this free agency stuff, but I really hope so. I think we had a great chance this year if we were healthy. So I hope we get him back.
Does Terance Mann expect Paul George to be with the Clippers next year? Mann: “I hope so. But you never know with this free agency stuff. But I really hope so. I think we had a great chance this year if we were healthy. So I hope we get him back.” 🎥: @RunItBackFDTV pic.twitter.com/bWKDAIbznZ — Joey Linn (@joeylinn_) June 3, 2024

The Sixers will certainly make a big run and a big offer at George in free agency, but it’s hard to believe the Clippers will let him go. The two sides will continue to negotiate and try to get everybody on the same page and he will likely stay in LA.

Sixers Rumors: Paul George Remains Philly's Top Target

Kevin mccormick | jun 3, 2024.

Dec 23, 2022; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George (13) drives past Philadelphia 76ers guard De'Anthony Melton (8) in the fourth quarter at Wells Fargo Center. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports

  • Philadelphia 76ers

Since they were eliminated from the postseason, the Philadelphia 76ers have been connected to a handful of star-level players. However, one insider recently revealed who their top target is for their sizable amount of cap space.

In a column for The Ringer, insider Kevin O'Connor broke down all of the Sixers' option this offseason. While they have an opportunity to be a major player in free agency, there are other ways to use their cap space. They could also attempt to absorb a high salary via a trade.

While breaking down the players Philly could target, O'Connor cited that LA Clippers star Paul George is their 'Plan A' this summer.

This type of versatility is exactly what the Sixers need. They’re looking for another star, but they also need players who can fill various roles. PG-13 is both, which is why sources familiar with Philly’s strategy say he is the team’s plan A in free agency.

George is still technically under contract with the Clippers, but can enter free agency a year early by declining his player option. This season, he averaged 22.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 3.5 APG across 74 games.

From a fit perspective, George is exactly the type of forward the Sixers should be targeting. He can do just about everything on the floor, and is still capable of being a high-level defender. Most importantly, he's proven he's capable of playing alongside other star players. George's track record shows he'd be able to come to the Sixers and find ways to be effective playing off Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

If George were to test the open market, the Sixers have a lot to offer him. Not only can they offer him a large contract, but the chance to contend alongside one of the NBA's top superstars.

CBP Reminds Summer Travelers to Stay ‘Travel Ready'

WASHINGTON — As summer approaches and families prepare for their international trips, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reminds the traveling public to use the agency’s official mobile applications to secure and streamline their travel and expedite their reentry into the United States.

Throughout 2023, CBP expanded use of its technology, processing over 394 million travelers at ports of entry in fiscal year 2023, a 24-percent increase over last year, and has already reached almost 100 million travelers in the first quarter of FY2024, totaling more than 527 million travelers to date using biometric facial comparison technology at entry, exit and Preclearance locations, with a match rate of more than 98 percent.

Additionally, memberships in CBP’s Trusted Traveler Programs in FY2024 has reached 14 million. For those looking to complete an interview before their summer travel, CBP currently has more than 158,000 interview appointments available within the next 90 days. Enrollment on Arrival (EoA) remains the best option to complete a GE interview. Applicants can complete their interview without an appointment and with just the entry documents they would normally carry when arriving from international locations.

CBP has also introduced a complement of mobile applications with technological enhancements to help speed up the travel process when entering the U.S. via air, land, or sea. Global Entry, for example, launched a new mobile app in September 2023 that allows members to complete their entry processing on their phones before even leaving the plane. The app can be downloaded from the Apple App store and Google Play, and is currently available for use at 47 airports, with more locations coming soon.  To date around 348,000 Global Entry users have processed their arrival using the app.

International travelers who are not Global Entry members can take advantage of the Mobile Passport Control app, which allows travelers to submit their passport and travel information in advance with a mobile device, resulting in less congestion and more efficient processing. MPC is available at 51 ports of entry, including 14 Preclearance locations and four seaports. It can be used by all U.S. citizens, U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents, B1/B2 Canadian Citizens, and returning Visa Waiver Program travelers. The app was used by 4.1 million travelers in FY2023, and has already had over 4.2 million uses in FY2024.

Non-U.S. citizens planning travel into the U.S. also have the option of using the Electronic System for Travel Authorization mobile app or the CBP One mobile app. The ESTA Mobile app was implemented June 1, 2023, and has been used almost 422,000 times to submit an ESTA application for authorization to travel to the U.S. In the first quarter of FY2024, the app has been used almost 338,000 times to apply. The CBP One™ app may also be used by visitors to the U.S. to apply and pay for the I-94 online. In FY2023, visitors used the CBP One app more than 458,000 times to complete a provisional I-94 application and almost 195,000 times in the first quarter of FY2024.

Additionally, U.S. citizens who are required to declare agriculture and biological products upon arrival into the United States may also use CBP One to provide advanced notification that they will need an agriculture inspection. Categories for declaration include:

  • Biological materials that may require permits issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
  • Pets, specifically birds and dogs, accompanying travelers in various capacities that carry the potential of introducing foreign animal diseases to the U.S. or other public health concerns
  • Cleaning and disinfection of shoes
  • Hunting trophies

All CBP applications can be downloaded free from the  Google Play Store  or  Apple App Store . For more information about CBP’s suite of mobile apps, visit Mobile Apps Directory | U.S. Customs and Border Protection (cbp.gov)

For more information on preparing to travel abroad, visit the Know Before You Go page on the CBP website .

Woman, 83, seriously injured after bison gored her in Yellowstone National Park

An 83-year-old woman was gored by a bison while visiting Yellowstone National Park on June 1, the National Park Service says.

The agency said the woman, from Greenville, South Carolina, “sustained serious injuries,” after the animal struck her near the Storm Point Trail at Yellowstone Lake.

“The bison, defending its space, came within a few feet of the woman and lifted her about a foot off the ground with its horns,” the park service said in a statement .

The victim was transported to a local medical clinic before being taken by helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

The park service says the matter is under investigation and no further information is available. The woman’s condition is also unknown.

The park service also encourages visitors to remain at a “safe distance” while looking at wildlife and to “move away” if they come near you.

“Wild animals can be aggressive if people don’t respect their space,” the agency said.

“When an animal is near a campsite, trail, boardwalk, parking lot or in a developed area, give it space. It is your responsibility to stay more than 25 yards (23 m) away from all large animals — bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes — and at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears and wolves. If need be, move or turn around and go the other way to avoid interacting with a wild animal in close proximity.”

Bison attacks have occurred at Yellowstone National Park before, including an incident in 2023 when a 47-year-old woman was injured after she was charged and gored by one.

Insider: If Pacers can't re-sign Pascal Siakam, the other free agent options aren't great

travel agencies george

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Pacers have made it clear they intend to do what they can to sign Pascal Siakam to a long-term contract . Though Siakam wouldn't commit to signing when he spoke to the media immediately after the Pacers were swept by the Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals, the 30-year-old two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA pick certainly suggested he was open to the idea.

So at this point it's more likely than not that when the dust settles on June 30 when free agency begins the Pacers will sign Siakam to a max contract for four or possibly five years.

The trade that brought him to Indy from the Raptors in January worked out as well as each side could have possibly hoped. Siakam left a Toronto team that, after winning a title in 2019, has embraced a full-scale rebuild and joined a Pacers team that is ascending on the other side of its own. He helped the Pacers return to the playoffs and reach the NBA's final four by leading Indiana in scoring in his 41 regular season games with 21.7 points per game. He also led them in scoring in the playoffs with 21.6 points per game.

Pacers news: Pacers’ Rick Carlisle says it's important to 'begin recruiting Pascal Siakam in earnest'

"Pascal was a great fit," general manager Chad Buchanan said. "Obviously, we targeted him in the trade. I've liked him for a long time and I thought he came in and was a tremendous piece to the puzzle for us and had major impact on the team both on the court and in the locker room. He seems to be happy here and we're obviously happy with him and hope this is something long-term for both sides."

Because if it isn't, the Pacers will have a hard time replacing Siakam, at least in this free agent class.

Teams have made more of a point to lock up their stars on long-term using the tools in the collective bargaining agreement so fewer and fewer superstars of Siakam's caliber hit the open market and that's clearly the case this season. There isn't a long list of marquee free agents to start with and some of the biggest potential names are not really obtainable. All-Star point guard Tyrese Maxey is set to be a restricted free agent, but there's every reason to believe the 76ers will sign him to a max contract extension. LeBron James has a player option with the Lakers, but it would be a major surprise if he left Los Angeles and an even bigger surprise if he considered leaving for a mid-to-small market Central Division team that isn't Cleveland. Also, James Harden will be a free agent, but it's hard to imagine him fitting in with the Pacers' style of play

Still, there are a handful of free agents the Pacers could focus on if talks with Siakam would surprisingly break down. Here are a few of those options.

Paul George, forward, Los Angeles Clippers

2023-24 Stats : 22.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.5 spg, FG%: .471. 3FG%: .413

2023-24 Salary (per Spotrac) : $45,640,084.

Outlook : George has a player option with the Clippers and if he opts in, he'll be paid about $48.8 million in 2024-25. However, the Clippers can offer him an extension and they just signed Kawhi Leonard to a three-year deal worth $149.5 million, and George will likely want something worth at least that much. The Clippers have indicated they're willing to make a big offer, but they might not be willing to offer a four-year supermax deal that will keep him at around the 35% of the salary cap he's making now.

If George decides to decline his player option and walk, Philadelphia would be his most likely suitor as the 76ers are clearing out a lot of cap space to go after talent to play off of Maxey and former MVP Joel Embiid. The Pacers would be a darkhorse contender at best considering the way his first tenure ended and the boos he's been subjected to in return trips to Indiana. Plus, adding a 34-year-old star to the fold doesn't make perfect sense with a team whose established franchise player is 24.

However, on paper George obviously provides a lot of what the Pacers would need if they couldn't keep Siakam. The 6-8, 220-pounder is still one of the league's best two-way wings, a nine-time All-Star and six time All-NBA pick who has also been named to the All-Defensive team four times. He played more games for the Clippers this season (74) than he did in any of his previous four seasons in L.A. and he had his most efficient shooting season in terms of effective field goal percentage in his career at .569. He and Tyrese Haliburton have a long-standing relationship and are represented by the same agency. A return to Indiana for George is certainly a longshot, but it may not be impossible.

O.G. Anunoby, forward, New York Knicks

2023-24 stats: 14.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.7 spg. FG%: .488. 3FG%: .394

2024-24 Salary (per Spotrac) : $18,642,857

Outlook: If the Pacers don't manage to keep one former Raptor on their roster, they could look into the one that they reportedly also had some interest in but ended up being traded to the Knicks. Anunoby has a player option that would pay him $19.9 million if he opts in, but it's been reported that the expectation is that he will test the market.

Anunoby could end up back with the Knicks, and he very clearly fits what coach Tom Thibodeau wants in a player. He missed significant time after he was acquired due to elbow surgery, but the Knicks were 20-3 in the regular season games in which he appeared. They also won the first two games of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Pacers before Anunoby suffered a hamstring strain. He returned in Game 7 and was clearly not healthy enough for the task, but he still drilled two remarkable 3-pointers before exiting the game.

The former IU star wing has become one of the league's best defenders with length at 6-7, 232-pounds that allows him to defend every position on the floor as well as phenomenal ball skills. He led the NBA in steals in 2022-23 when he was named to the All-Defensive team and he's averaged at least 1.4 steals per game in each of the last five seasons. He's turned into an efficient scorer, shooting at least 36% from 3-point range each of the last five years and posting a .577 effective field goal percentage this year. He might not have Siakam's capacity as a go-to scorer, but he would fit into the Pacers' uptempo offense just fine and immediately raise the bar for the defense. He'll likely be looking for a max contract, but if Siakam walks, the Pacers would have the ability to give it to him. They might still show some interest if they keep Siakam but it would be much more difficult to make that work.

DeMar DeRozan, guard, Chicago Bulls

Key Stats : 24.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 5.3 apg, 1.1 spg. FG%: .480 3FG%: .333

2023-24 Salary (per Spotrac) : $28,600,000

Outlook : DeRozan turns 35 in August, so again, he might not be the best fit for a young team like the Pacers. The 6-6, 220-pounder would slot in as a shooting guard and small forward with the Pacers as opposed to a power forward which would potentially create a bit of a logjam scenario there with Andrew Nembhard, Bennedict Mathurin, Aaron Nesmith and Ben Sheppard back after getting work at the 2 and 3 last year.

That said, the most important thing the Pacers would need if they don't keep Siakam would be a go-to scorer to take attention off of Haliburton. DeRozan still has the capacity to be that kind of scorer. He remains one of the best mid-range shooters in the modern game, shooting a career 45.1% from 10-16 feet and 40.2% from 16 feet to the 3-point line. DeRozan doesn't have Siakam's length, but he's still as good as there is in the league at finding a way to create a shot.

Miles Bridges, forward, Charlotte Hornets

2023-24 Stats : 21.0 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 0.9 spg, FG%: .462 3FG%: .349.

2023-24 Salary (per Spotrac) : $7,921,300

Outlook : The 6-7, 225-pound Bridges might, under normal circumstances, be a coveted free agent commodity with size, rebounding ability and inside-outside scoring capacity, making him a more than adequate option to stretch the floor at power forward. He's had struggles on the defensive end but has improved in that regard.

However, Bridges' off-court problems will certainly lead teams to stay away and it would be surprising to see the Pacers look in his direction.

Bridges was accused of assaulting the mother of his children in June of 2022. He pleaded no contest that November to one felony count of injuring a child's parent, agreeing to do so for three years of probation and no jail time. He was also required to undergo parenting classes, domestic violence counseling and community service. He was then charged in October of 2023 with a violation of a domestic violence protection order as well as child abuse and injury to personal property for a separate incident. Charges were eventually dropped in that case for lack of sufficient evidence. However, Bridges sat out all of the 2022-23 season and was suspended 10 games to start this season because of the alleged incidents.

Tobias Harris, forward, Philadelphia 76ers

2023-24 stats : 17.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.0 spg, FG%: .487. 3FG%: .353

2023-24 salary (per Spotrac) : $39,270,150

Outlook: The 6-8, 226-pound Harris will be coveted on the free agent market because he can stretch the floor as a power forward, defend multiple positions and rebound. He's been a double-figure scorer in the NBA for 12 seasons, averaging 16.3 per game for his career. He's hit at least 100 3-pointers in a season six times and he's averaged a healthy 6.2 rebounds per game in his career. He'll be valuable and productive wherever he ends up.

That said, Harris is at his best when he can be a third or fourth scoring option, making opponents pay for overcommitting to a team's top offensive options. In Philadelphia's first-round playoff series against the Knicks this year, he didn't do that quite well enough, averaging 9.0 points per game in the series and failing to score at all in Game 6. He played 29 minutes and 20 seconds but took just two shots and missed both, registering four rebounds and three assists but posting a -10 plus-minus figure.

Siakam does have the capacity to be a top scoring option, so if would be decidedly sub-optimal if the Pacers find themselves looking at Harris to replace him, and Harris is clearly one of the top 15 free agent options on the board. All the more reason why the Pacers plan to put a lot of effort into getting a Siakam deal done.
