Ok except for being dropped off 15 minutes walk from hotel

MR. VERNON BUCHANAN

You made our trip really special

Ms Catherine Stock

Picked up right on time (downtown Las Vegas) went to main terminal and the tour started from there, 1st stop was a chocolate factory with a couple samples, then on to the Mead Lake cruise which was beautiful and included a nice lunch, then on to the Hoover Dam which was also a lot of fun, started with a short video and then the tour. Then back to Vegas where downtown was the 1st drop off which I thought was great. (My last Gray Line trip (Grand Canyon) I was picked up 1st (downtown) and dropped off last which added about 3 extra hours to my trip which I didn't expect or appreciate.)

What I Liked Most

What I Disliked

Had a lovely afternoon cruise to Hoover Dam through Lake Mead with Lake Mead Cruises. Onboard amenities include drinks and food, with the cheeseburgers being a standout. The service was friendly and attentive, making for a wonderful experience. The pier also has a nice gift shop. Throughout the cruise, there were great views and an informative narrative history provided onboard.

We recently took a 90-minute sightseeing cruise with Lake Mead Cruises in Las Vegas. Boarding was a breeze and we had the option to take a photo before boarding, which we could purchase later for $10. The main deck of the boat is enclosed and air conditioned, perfect for those scorching Nevada days. There's a full bar and snack bar on board where you can buy drinks and food for an additional cost. For a better view, you can also sit outdoors on the upper level. The staff, especially the ladies at the bar and snack bar, were incredibly friendly. One thing to note is that boarding takes place at a marina in a national park, so if you don't have a national park pass, there is a $25 entrance fee that isn't mentioned when purchasing tickets.

The view from Lake Mead Cruises is pretty good, especially if you're looking for some mid-day sightseeing. The cruise gets you pretty close to the dam, which can be a bit redundant if you've just come from the dam tour, but it does offer a different angle. During our visit on a sunny Friday in March, there were only around 20 people on board. The pre-recorded tour audio was informative, but there were some issues with the sound system at the beginning, particularly during the safety instructions. The staff was friendly, the cruise had three levels, and the restrooms were clean. However, some may find the price of $42 per person a bit overpriced for a pre-recorded tour. Overall, it's a nice experience, but may not be worth the cost for everyone.

Lake Mead

Lake Mead Las Vegas: Everything You Need to Know

Lake Mead is a reservoir that has been created on the border of Nevada and Arizona in the Mojave Desert. The Hoover Dam, erected in the 1930s as part of the New Deal initiative to supply hydroelectric power, agricultural water, and flood control to the surrounding region, was responsible for its creation.

Lake Mead is a popular recreational location for boating, fishing, swimming, and other sports, particularly in the adjacent city of Las Vegas.

Lake Mead Las Vegas: Everything You Need to Know

Lake Mead has been named one of the best freshwater lakes in the United States for scuba diving. Divers can explore numerous depths and submerged locations.

Lakes Mead has some of the greatest sport fishing in the country. Boating and water skiing, as well as kayaking and canoeing, are popular pastimes on the vast stretches of open water. There are shaded picnic spaces and bathrooms around the park.

Visitors to the region can enjoy a variety of the environment. Because of its proximity to Las Vegas and Henderson, the Boulder Basin is the most well-known and frequented area.

Getting There

Lake Mead is a half-hour to 45-minute trip southeast of the city. One of the reasons why Lake Mead National Recreation Area is so popular is because it is close to one of the most popular tourist sites in the United States, the Hoover Dam, and only 25 miles from the tourist center of Las Vegas.

McCarran International Airport

The Lake Mead National Recreation Area is roughly 25 miles from Las Vegas and McCarran International Airport. There are various options for enjoying Lake Mead National Recreation Area once you arrive.

There is no train service to Lake Mead National Recreation Area, although several tour companies provide transportation from various Las Vegas casinos and attractions.

Lake Mead NRA has nine road access points and is located only minutes from much of the Las Vegas region, while Lake Mojave NRA is situated only a few kilometers from Laughlin, Nevada, & Bullhead City, Arizona.

Driving from Las Vegas toward Lake Mead National Recreation Area is the cheapest option, taking 34 minutes. Without a car, the easiest method to go from Las Vegas to Lake Mead National Recreation Area is via bus, which takes 1h 24m.

A guided tour is by far the most convenient way to explore Lake Mead, with transportation from your lodging facility or authorized Las Vegas departure location ranging from $38 to $70 per person.

There are both small-group as well as exclusive Lake Mead day tours available.

From Las Vegas, Nevada

  • Take I-515 S/US-93 S, which connects the Las Vegas region to the Great Basin National Park and gives access to Ely and Wells.
  • Take Las Vegas Blvd N northeast to E Mesquite Ave.
  • Take I-11 S exit 15B.
  • Stay on Boulder City Pkwy. Take Wyoming St.
  • Keep right onto Nevada Way.
  • Take the first right onto Wyoming St.

Lake Mead Recreation Area has an admission charge, and passes may be bought either online or at the facility’s entrances. When you arrive, you are going to be asked to produce your ID. If you’re carrying your own powered boat, double-check the charges.

Entrance and lake usage fees apply to Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Passes for Lake Mead can be bought online or at any of the entry points. You may also buy passes by printing a mail-in form.

The positions of the entrance stations are

  • Boulder Beach
  • Lake Mead Boulevard
  • Lake Mead Parkway
  • Cottonwood Cove
  • Northshore Road
  • Willow Beach
  • Katherine Landing

Existing pass holders can access the park using the entry station’s far right lane. Lake Mead charges per vehicle, thus if a permit is present in the private car, that pass can be used to cover the entire vehicle admission price.

Per-person fees are only assessed for commercial or group entrances, or when an individual is not in a powered vehicle.

If a group is walking into a team, passes can be used for the pass holder plus three other people who are 16 or older. Anyone below the age of 16 receives entry free of charge to the park.

10. Best Things to Do in Lake Mead

Lake Mead has a variety of activities and services to suit guests of all ages and interests. Boating is a major activity on the lake, and there are many marinas and boat ramps for launching and parking boats. The following are some of the best and most famous Lake Mead attractions.

Kayaking in Lake Mead is a must-do activity. Kayaking is an excellent way to discover any lake, as it is one of the many things to do that is both exciting and calming.

For those who want to view it all from the boat, Willow Springs Marina offers an excellent trip that covers Hoover Dam and Black Canyon.

In the marina, you may hire a canoe or kayak and then take a bus to the dam. Kayaking Emerald Cave, situated 2 miles upstream from Willow Beach, offers one of the most spectacular adventures you can have.

Speed Boat on Lake Mead

One of the most popular pastimes in this area is boating on Lake Mead and Lake Mohave. Boaters may experience the excitement of open water or rest in a quiet cove with over 290 square miles of waterway to navigate.

To launch a boat on Lake Mead or Lake Mohave, you must have a vehicle pass to get into the park plus vessel passes for every vessel.

Apart from sailboards, all vessels must carry a minimum of one Coast Guard-approved safety jacket for everyone on board. Paddlecraft is included in this category.

Unless they are in a totally enclosed space, children under the age of 13 must have a life jacket while they are aboard a vessel. Persons under the age of 16 are not permitted to wear inflatable life jackets.

There are several hiking trails around the park. Here are numerous hikes ranging from easy to difficult to help you decide which adventure to embark on.

Lake Mead, Henderson, and Boulder City are linked by a wide paved multi-use route. The park has 16.7 miles of path. The whole distance is 34 miles roundtrip.

The small path descends into stunning meandering valleys with sculpted rock walls that change hues and tints throughout the day. Owls roost in the canyon on occasion. The entire distance traveled is 2.2 miles roundtrip.

A tiny canyon is followed by a steep, rocky path that leads to hot springs. Rock scrambling and Grade III climbing is required.

Climb at your own risk since the National Park Service does not check, maintain, or replace bolts or other climbing equipment.  The entire roundtrip duration is 4.7 miles.

American Coot

Animals that live here have evolved characteristics that enable them deal with the harsh climate. The majority of adaptations are around avoiding heat, saving water, and living on a limited food supply. Here are some of the animals and plants you could see in the area:

  • Rainbow trout
  • Largemouth bass
  • American Coot
  • Yellow Headed Blackbird
  • Great Horned Owl

Plants and Flowers:

  • Desert Dandelion Bloom
  • Creosote Bush
  • Mojave Poppy
  • Joshua Tree
  • Beavertail Cactus
  • Woolly Daisy

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has been established as a means to protect the area’s recreational future potential including hunting and trapping cultures.

The harvesting of animals in the park is strictly regulated by governmental partnerships to protect the balance of species and their ecosystems.

Anglers can catch largemouth and striped bass, but the carp that eat recklessly on junk food near the marina docks are the most common.

With over 290 square miles of the ocean surface, there’s certain to be a favorite site to capture the big one. Lake Mead is well-known for its striped bass, which may weigh more than 40 pounds on occasion.

There are approximately 900 camping and RV sites in 15 various locales, including desert and lakefront scenery to delight everyone.

The campgrounds within Lake Mead National Recreation Area have bathrooms, water outlets, dumping locations, barbecues, tables for dining, and shelter.

Vehicle camping is allowed at established campsites and in primitive places marked on backcountry maps.

Visitor Centers and Facilities

Make the most of your vacation by visiting the area’s tourist attractions and amenities. Here are some of the facilities you can encounter if you visit Lake Mead.

Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center before you begin your excursion. Rangers and volunteers can help you organize an enjoyable journey whether you have an hour or a week. Aside from maps and brochures, you may also have your National Park passport stamped or become a junior ranger.

Drop around the exhibit room to see a big relief map of the whole park, learn about the species that live in Lake Mead, and view Life in the Desert, the park’s award-winning video.

Accessible parking places are identified by the international access emblem and are allocated for cars that exhibit an accessible parking permit or license tag.

Boat trailers shouldn’t be parked in accessible locations except if they are attached to a vehicle and are marked with a placard or plate.

Because Lake Mead fluctuates, designated areas near the lake may be uneven with steeper slopes.

From your automobile, you may enjoy the grandeur of Lake Mead National Recreation Area by driving along one of the scenic drives on Lakeshore Road or Northshore Road. Along the journey, there are various magnificent views with picnic tables and bathrooms.

Restrooms that used to float in different parts of Lake Mead are now kept in the soil on pontoon floats near Boulder Harbor, wherein the Lake Mead Marina originally stood in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Safety and Regulations

  • Weapons, traps, or nets may only be used in line with federal and state rules for hunting inside the recreation area.
  • Target practice is not permitted anywhere in the park.
  • Visitors who are lawfully permitted to possess and carry weapons under federal, state, and municipal law are permitted to do so in the park.
  • The job of a responsible gun owner is to understand and follow federal, state, and local regulations.
  • It is legal to transport lawfully obtained and properly tagged wildlife through the park.
  • Don’t rely on your phone. It is extremely possible that you will not have mobile service within Lake Mead.
  • Make a note of your hiking schedule and leave it with someone who will not be trekking with you and will notice if you do not return at the expected time.

The “Swimmer’s Itch” parasite is thought to be prevalent in Lakes Mead and Mohave, however, it is not a persistent or widespread issue.

The parasite, which may be found in warm, shallow waters for a few weeks to a whole summer, is not considered a life-threatening hazard, although it may lead to a little discomfort.

How to Treat:

  • In most situations, putting baking soda solution or over-the-counter anti-itch cream on the area will provide relief.
  • If you have an unexplained or extremely severe rash and are worried, please see your doctor.

To be cool, keep yourself drenched in water. That is one of the most beneficial things you can do for yourself. It will aid in lowering the temperature of your core. Make careful to immerse yourself in the water anytime you are around water. Keep an eye out for these health threats:

  • Heat Exhaustion
  • Hyponatremia

Lake Mead

The beautiful weather is one of the many elements of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area that draws people year after year.

Many visitors come only to unwind in the country of the sun. Refugees from states devastated by winter’s cold grip frequently travel to this region to spend the winter.

Lake Mead offers an attraction for artists, and campers as well, with the odd snowcapped peak and magnificent wintertime sunsets.

To fish in Lake Mead or Lake Mohave, you must have a valid Nevada or Arizona fishing license. The Colorado River System has many protected fish species.

The Razorback sucker, as well as the Bonytail chub, are two of them that could be spotted in the lakes. If these fish have been captured, they should be released back into the wild. Fishing is prohibited within hatcheries’ designated borders.

On a bright and sunny Nevada day, there’s no better place to be than on the water. Lake Mead is definitely one of our state’s most popular waterfront destinations, and for good reason. This lake boasts tremendous views and endless opportunities for fun in the sun. It’s one thing to view this gorgeous lake from afar, but something else entirely to cruise on its waters. Lake Mead Cruises has been providing on-the-water experiences for locals and travelers alike, and they even boast a Champagne Brunch Cruise that can’t be missed. Enjoy the view while dining on a delicious meal at the same time and make it your mission to check it out!
