Bangkok travel FAQs

Do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Do I need a visa to visit Thailand?

Travellers with passports from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States are exempt from a tourist visa if they are travelling for 30 days or less. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from entry to Thailand.

If you plan on staying longer as a tourist, or if you are travelling for a reason such as study or business, you may need a visa.

The page is for general information only and may be subject to change. It is your responsibility to obtain relevant visa and travel information required for entry, departure and travel to each country or region you visit on your trip. You should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates.

When is the best time to visit Thailand?

Thailand's climate is generally hot, humid and at times (like other South-East Asian countries) monsoonal. The seasons differ from coast to coast, so depending on which areas you're visiting, the weather can vary.

Thailand's north, east and west are great to visit from November to February, when the weather is cooler and dryer. If heading south, it's best to travel from January to April as these months provide conditions optimal for diving and snorkelling. This is peak time, however, so be aware that popular places like Chiang Mai, Ko Samui and Phuket can get particularly busy. It can also get quite busy from July to August as it's the northern hemisphere school holidays.

The monsoon season is from July to November, so it can get quite wet and the weather may be uncomfortably hot and humid for those who aren't accustomed to it. Yet travelling during this time can provide a different picture of Thailand, and is generally a less crowded time of year. March to June is less wet but is the hottest time in terms of temperatures. If you don't mind the heat then this can be a good time to go on holiday to Thailand to avoid the crowds.

Can I drink the tap water in Thailand?

Drinking tap water isn’t recommended in Thailand. Avoid drinks with ice and make sure to peel fruit before eating it. Help the environment and try to avoid buying bottled water. Instead, fill a reusable water bottle with filtered water. Your leader or hotel can tell you where to find filtered water.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before travelling?

Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

For more information on insurance, please go to: Travel Insurance

Is tipping customary in Thailand?

Tipping isn’t customary in Thailand, but feel free to leave restaurants, drivers or service workers a small tip if the service has been particularly good. It’s always appreciated.

  • Air was absolutely amazing! This was my first time to Thailand and she made our tour truly a beautiful experience. Gave history and insight on the culture/background and taught us some helpful Thai words. Throughout the tour, she happily checked in with us and how we were feeling, provided the best recommendations for food and all the while had the most beautiful spirit. By far, the best service ever received and well worth every penny and would do it again! Lastly our driver A just as phenomenal on getting us to all our destinations safely. Highly recommend the Train market, Café, floating market and visit the home that makes coconut sugar and ask for the best Thai Massages! • We had an amazing tour with Petch, she was informative and very knowledgeable which made our time with her an absolute pleasure. We were collected from our hotel on time in an air conditioned comfortable mini bus and our driver was excellent, cold water and refreshing cold towels were provided throughout the day. All of the temples we visited were so interesting and Ayutthaya was a wonderful place to visit. The lunch was at an authentic Thai restaurant with plenty of local people enjoying their weekend and the food was delicious. Would fully recommend both BKK Tours and our amazing guide Petch. read more read less Historical Ayutthaya tour Paul a. 29 Mar 2024

Bangkok Group Package

The Bangkok group tours are a way to serve the culture and familiarity in one plate. The plate is additionally decorated with the element of groups where everyone is enjoying the varied experiences in this exceptional city. The Thai culture of the place is highly showcased in terms of street foods. Bangkok is one of the best dining destinations in the world. Along with the fine dining options, there is plenty of street food to relish.

Popular Attractions of the Bangkok Group Tour Packages

One of the key reasons behind the popularity of the place is, it is the capital city and keeping dignity high. Here are a few places that we have listed for your fun in Bangkok group tours –

  • Jim Thompson’s House: This is an intriguing attraction of Bangkok. The house is designed in traditional Thai architecture. This serves as a museum for World War II, as one American spy stayed here.
  • Lumphini Park: If you want to make a step towards natural beauty and tranquillity, Lumphini Park is the best option to visit. It has an artificial lake, plenty of boats, and lush greenery. This place can be enjoyed by everyone in your group, irrespective of their age.
  • Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World: This is a great adventure to enjoy with your group. Here, you can enjoy the water lives so closely. This is indeed a thrilling experience. It has around 30,000 water creatures to serve the tourists.
  • Safari World: Safari World is a great place where animals roam around freely. You can watch entertaining lives and enjoy the thrilling experience of facing them. The Marine Park is also here to enjoy the engrossing existence.
  • Wat Pho: This is the best place to visit and take blessings from Buddha. This is the largest temple complex with a giant reclining Buddha. The statue is all covered with gold. The place has a perfectly relaxing ambiance for the travelers.

Best Time to Visit Bangkok for the Best Experience

Firstly, you should know that Bangkok is a place which stays busy always. No matter when you are traveling to the city, you will have to face the crowd and rush. If you are planning to visit Bangkok, it won’t make huge differences from season to season. The main thing that needs to be considered is the holidays. Christmas and New Years are said to be the busiest time as people are coming for group fun. If you are coming to Bangkok to visit Southern island, the preferred time is the sunny and dry weather. Concluding all, you can visit anytime whilst the time from late November to early February is considered as the best one.

Thailand travel reviews

Thailand tour photos from our travellers, recommended tours, the best ways to pay for services in thailand.

Thailand's local currency is the Thai Baht. The best way to carry your money is in debit cards, withdrawing cash in local currencies from ATM machines. ATMs are found throughout Thailand and will generally accept cards on the Visa and Mastercard networks. It is a great idea to travel with both a Visa and Mastercard if at all possible in case of loss or problems with one card, you will have a back up. If you are bringing US Dollars, please make sure that the notes are new and in good condition. Notes older than 2003, or with any tears or blemishes may not be accepted. Be fussy with your bank when buying cash!

Tips on tips

Some reasonable suggestions on how to tip the staff

It is customary in Asia to tip service providers such as waiters, at approximately 10%, depending on the service.

Tour guides / Drivers

$ 1.5 to $ 3.5.

Recommendations for tipping drivers and local guides would range from $1.5-$3.5 USD per person per day depending on the quality and length of the service

G Adventures CEO

$ 20 to $ 25.

The amount is entirely a personal preference, however as a guideline $20-25 USD per person, per week can be used.

Packing for Thailand

What you need to bring depends on the trip you have chosen and the countries or regions you are planning to visit. We suggest that you pack as lightly as possible as your are expected to carry your own luggage. As a rule we try not to have to walk more than 15-20 minutes with your bags which is why we recommend keeping the weight of your bags between 10-15kg/22-30lb. Suitcases are not recommended for G Adventures trips! Most travellers carry a backpack or rolling bag of small to medium size (no XXL ones please!) as they need to fit under the beds when travelling on sleeper trains. You will also need a day pack/bag to carry water, cameras and other electronics like iPods and mobile phones. If your trip involves overnights in homestays, villages or camping then you usually have the opportunity to rent sleeping bags if need be instead of bringing them with you.

Electricity and power supplies in Thailand

The entire country of Thailand runs on 220-volt currents and uses five types of electrical outlets — type A, B, C, F and O. Type A: mainly used in North and Central America, China and Japan. This socket only works with plug A. Type B: like type A but with an extra prong for grounding. This socket also works with plug A. Type C: also known as the standard "Euro" plug. This socket also works with plug E and plug F. Type F: also known as "Schuko". This socket also works with plug C and plug E. Type O: this type is unique to Thailand but it also works with plug C, plug E and plug F.

Reviews of small group tours to thailand.

This tour was a great way to get some of the highlights of Thailand! The tour guides in Bangkok and Chiang Mai were excellent. We were disappointed that one of the excursions on the original itinerary was not on the final one, nor was it replaced with another, but we did manage to fill up all of the days with activities. When we all eventually return to Thailand, we all know what we want to see more of.
Insane experience. Recomand
I have had the most amazing fun holiday ever. Bobby our tour guide completely made the trip. Very professional, personable and tons of fun… wouldn’t have been the same without him.. so knowledgeable ?? i would recommend the trip and rate Bobby the best tour guide!!!!!

Thailand Trip FAQs

When is the best time/month to travel to thailand.

With such a warm climate all year round, Thailand is such a great destination to travel. Whether you decide to explore the bustling streets of Bangkok, dive into the crystal-clear waters of the islands, or indulge in the vibrant street food in the north, Thailand has it all. Don't worry too much about the occasional tropical showers; it’s a refreshing break from the heat before the sun comes back out. We operate our small group tours in Thailand all year round.

How many days in Thailand is enough?

We recommend setting aside 2-3 weeks for your solo trip to Thailand. With so much to explore and experience, it's important to allow yourself enough time to fully immerse in the wonders of this incredible country. Navigating the various transportation options can be overwhelming at first, but fear not! Our tours in Thailand are designed to take away all the hassles and worries of planning your trip and travelling alone. We’ll handle all the tough/boring stuff, giving you the freedom to enjoy each and every day to the fullest 🙌🏼

Do I need a visa to travel Thailand?

For most travellers, Thailand is a very easy country to visit with a simple ‘Visa on Arrival’ process. This includes a long list of different countries including; UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia and most of Europe. Be sure to do your own research, as each country/passport will have different entry requirements, and the rules can often change. It's your responsibility to ensure you've ticked all the necessary boxes to enter Thailand hassle-free. *You must check your visa eligibility as we are not visa experts. The information above is general in nature. Here’s a blog that we put together to help; ‘An Unofficial Visa Guide to Asia & Australia’.

What injections/vaccinations do I need for Thailand?

Similar to visas, we are not medical professionals and would hate to give you false or misleading information. We recommend you book an appointment with your doctor or local pharmacy to discuss your travel plans and what precautions you need to be aware of. They will provide up-to-date guidance and will no doubt have your vaccination/immunisation history on file. All the destinations and areas we travel to are generally low-risk, but best to be on the safe side! Click here for a useful resource provided by the UK NHS website.

What about COVID-19 travel restrictions in Thailand?

It's always a good idea to check whether your destination or airline requires you to be COVID-19 vaccinated or tested to travel. It's your responsibility to ensure you arrive on tour with us in Thailand without any issues. Click here for a useful resource provided by the UK government.

What kind of people join these group tours?

It doesn't matter whether you're travelling solo, with a friend, or adventuring as a couple. Our trips attract a variety of different people from all corners of the world with a common goal of having the BEST time with like-minded people. Our trips are super popular for people looking to explore new places but don't want the worry of doing it alone or don't have the time to plan a trip themselves. Jumping on a group tour in Thailand is a super popular, convenient and hassle-free way to travel!

Are group tours in Thailand worth it? Why would I not just travel solo?

Planning a solo trip can be daunting, requiring careful consideration and a lot of time. But guess what? Our Thailand group tours are designed to make your life easier and your travel experience stress-free! From the moment you land, we handle all the logistics and nitty-gritty details, including airport pickup, comfortable accommodations, seamless transportation, engaging local activities, and delicious meals. With our tours, you can kick back, relax, and enjoy your adventure in Thailand, knowing that every aspect has been expertly taken care of.

I am looking to come alone, do many people travel solo?

Yes, absolutely! Most people actually come alone, with there often being a few people travelling together either as friends or as a couple. Our trips are perfect for solo travellers as you'll make friends from the moment you arrive, and you'll have the confidence and security of doing it as a group.

How much money do you need for 2 weeks in Thailand?

Once you've booked your flights, paid off your trip and got some solid travel insurance, you'll be all set for that Thailand adventure. We suggest bringing no less than £300/$400, but this should be the bare minimum. We suggest working from an average of £400-500/$500-700 over 2 weeks, this will cover things like shopping, drinks, extra meals and anything else you fancy treating yourself to... maybe a few massages!?

What should I book first, the flights or the tour?

Great question! We always suggest getting the trip locked in first before booking flights. This way, you won’t be left disappointed if the trip goes full and you’ve already booked your flights. There are usually plenty of flight tickets available, but the spaces are limited with our trips, and the trips fill up pretty fast. We suggest booking your trip first, followed by your flight, and then purchasing your travel insurance to cover all eventualities. Getting these three out of the way as soon as possible is a good idea.

How far in advance do you recommend booking my trip to Thailand?

The average traveller typically books their trip 3-4 months in advance, which usually means there are plenty of options when it comes to dates. If you decide to book last minute, be prepared for limited availability. If you have your heart set on a specific date or trip, consider placing a deposit right away.

I’ve been looking at a few companies, what makes Feel Free Travel different?

If you're asking this question, you've probably not read what our incredible travellers are saying in the reviews . You would have noticed already that we are insanely passionate about sharing life-changing experiences with our groups. When we travel, it's more like a group of mates with that one friend who thankfully knows where they're going. Our group sizes are small and intimate, averaging 12-16 travellers. If you've not already, click here to join the 'Feel Free Family - Facebook Group' .

Is it possible to book a private tour of Thailand with a group of friends?

We specialise in bringing solo travellers together who arrive as complete strangers and soon become best friends/extended travel family. With that being said, we have been known to offer private tours subject to availability. If you send us an email to [email protected] one of the team will be in touch and see what we can do… no promises!

For those truly epic, once-in-a-lifetime destinations, you want to leave your itinerary to the experts. Whether your dream is to see the Big Five on an African Safari, trek tall mountains, explore European cities, or something even wilder, a group tour is the easiest way to do it.

However, picking the wrong group tour company is the quickest way to ruin your trip. Make sure you choose a tour company that aligns with your goals and travel styles. Do you want an intimate group tour or do you prefer to make lots of new friends in a big group? Does the price line up with what you like (luxury vs. budget)? Is the itinerary going to all the places you want to see?

We’ve done the research and found the very best group travel tour companies for 2024 for every type of traveler.

Best Overall Group Travel: Exodus Adventure Travels

Images of nature around the mountains and lakes of Slovenia as seen on the Exodus Travels' Lakes and Mountains of Slovenia walking tour

With trips on every continent, Exodus Adventure Travels covers anywhere on this planet that you could possibly want to go, from popular destinations like the Amalfi Coast to well off-the-beaten-path adventures like Tajikistan. This award-winning group travel company boasts thousands of repeat customers who sign up for trips year after year (97% of past participants would recommend Exodus Adventure Travels to a friend).

These small group tours operate with only around 8-16 people and always feature experienced local leaders who can give you a unique insight into your destination. Exodus Adventure Travels caters to any type of travel style, including trips broken down by type of activity (think walking, cycling, multi-adventure, winter, or cultural) as well as type of traveler (family, age group, etc.). There are curated collections (coastal, “away from it all”, European wilderness, and trips of a lifetime) to inspire you, as well as self-guided options for when you want all the benefits of a group tour planner without the actual group. Looking for that special safari? Exodus Aventure Travels just partners with the African Wildlife Foundation to create carefully curated luxury adventures that go above and beyond the standard safari.

Exodus Adventure Travels tours work for almost any budget, with options that range from affordable to premium.

Top Trip: Explore under-the-radar Europe by foot on Exodus Adventure Travels’ Lakes & Mountains of Slovenia walking tour .

Best Adventure Group Travel: World Expeditions

Groups of hikers walking and camping around the mountains of Kilimanjaro with World Expeditions

World Expeditions has been taking adventurous travelers to remote locations all over the world ever since its first group trek through Nepal in 1975. Today, World Expeditions offers active itineraries on every continent. Intrepid travelers can opt for trips themed around mountaineering, rafting, cycling, hiking, and more.

World Expeditions aims to leave communities and places where they operate tours better than they found them. Trips are created using the company’s Thoughtful Travel Charter as a guideline, which emphasizes respect for the environment, sustainability, having a positive impact on local communities, protecting wildlife, and more.

World Expeditions’ trips are capped at just 16 people to provide a good experience for participants, and there are no single supplements for solo travelers willing to share a room with someone of the same gender.

Top Trip: Summit Africa’s tallest mountain on a fully-supported trek up Kilimanjaro on World Expeditions’ eight day trip up the beautiful Lemosho Route .

Best Budget Group Travel: G Adventures

People visiting famous sites around China with the G Adventures' China Express group travel tour

For travelers on a budget, G Adventures offers cheap group tours that make dream destinations accessible to nearly anyone. (Think: sailing the Galapagos for just $1,014 , criss-crossing India’s Golden Triangle for $799 , or spending 8 days in Bali for less than $749.)

G Adventures is one of the best tour companies for solo travelers as well, as most trips don’t have a single-supplement. You can choose to share a room with another G Adventures solo traveler, or pay extra to have your own space.

G Adventures keeps costs down by opting for cheaper hotels and local meals, and making certain activities optional (for an additional cost). Pick your travel style—options range from “basic” to more luxe tours run in partnership with National Geographic. Family tours, local living tours (featuring homestays), and wellness-focused tours are also available.

Top Trip: G Adventures’ China Express trip is a great way to see the highlights of China if you’re short on both time and budget.

  • Pangina Heals’ Bangkok: Bars, Fab Shops, Rendezvous Spots, Sexy Nights Out, and More

The MICHELIN Guide invites you to discover Bangkok through the dazzling perspective of the fabulous Pangina Heals, the international Thai drag superstar who took RuPaul's Drag Race by storm.

Editor's Pick My Bangkok Thailand Bangkok Pride Month

tour group bangkok

Pangina Heals guides you through her beloved Bangkok , a city that never sleeps, in a day, from spicy street grubs to shopping for fierce outfits, including a visit to her go-to spots for a sickeningly sexy night out. Follow the larger-than-life drag queen as she leads us to discover her favourite spots in the Big Mango.

(© Pangina Heals)

Born and raised in Bangkok , Pan Pan Narkprasert , famously known as Pangina Heals , is a force to be reckoned with in the drag world. Before fabulous wigs and ah-mazing jaw-dropping lipsync performances, few knew she had been bullied by her peers and had battled depression and bulimia as a teenager. However, nothing deterred this Thai-Taiwanese talent as she began her artistic journey as a fine arts student in the city of stars – Los Angeles, where she honed her creative skills. Upon returning to Bangkok , she immersed herself in the city's vibrant art scene, eventually making a splash by winning a Lady Gaga lookalike contest, which earned her a trip to New York City. With a little help from her drag friend, Sira Soda, Pangina Heals soon became a celebrated drag performer, serving lewks and serving sass on stages across Asia. Her charisma and talent led her to snatch a spot as a host on Drag Race Thailand , where she quickly gained fame as one of Asia's most beloved drag queens, often referred to as the RuPaul of Thailand. She later sashayed onto the screen in the inaugural season of RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs. the World , further cementing her status as an international Thai drag superstar. Through her performances and appearances, Pangina Heals continues to shine a spotlight on Bangkok 's endlessly dynamic cultural landscape, embodying the city's spirit of innovation and artistic expression. Below, she breaks down her favourite spots in the Thai capital.
