Kevin Costner Horizon: An American Saga

When Kevin Costner revealed the trailer for “ Horizon: An American Saga ,” the first of his planned four-part epic about the American West, the two-time Academy Award winner looked positively giddy — at least over Zoom.

“Trailers have always been kind of a favorite part for me, even as a boy going to the movies,” Costner said, grinning as he unveiled the first footage in a virtual conversation with journalists. “You’re obviously there to see the movie you want, but isn’t it kind of cool when you see what’s coming? … And with that in mind, I did my very best to expose what’s going to be a four-part saga.”

Summer movie meltdown math: years of box office data reveal discouraging trends, onza distribution takes thibout courtois doc, rolls out ‘young addictions,’ ‘real madrid’ sales (exclusive), popular on variety.

The three minute trailer introduces “Horizon’s” ensemble cast — led by Costner’s Hayes Elllison, who rides into the frame with the stunning landscapes of Utah on full display — and tees up the action as the film explores the triumphs and tragedies brought on by the ideology of Manifest Destiny. The clip shares a first look at his co-stars Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tantanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt and Jamie Campbell Bower.

Much of the footage simply teases, rather than directly explains the film’s plot, offering glimpses of the Native American populations that will be featured in the film and possibly a romantic storyline between Costner’s Ellison and Lee’s character.

“Use that much this year?” Bower’s character asks Costner near the end of the clip, as he uses his shotgun to reveal Costner’s holstered pistol.

“Haven’t had much need of it yet,” he replies, as the clip cuts to a scene in which Costner displays his quick draw skills.

“Looks like we’ve got ourselves a bad man right here,” Bower declares, chuckling as Costner walks away.

The official description explains that the film “explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won — and lost — through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”

In addition to starring in the film, Costner directed from a script he co-wrote with Jon Baird. “Horizon: An American Saga” is Costner’s fourth directorial effort following 2003’s “Open Range,” 1997’s “The Post Man” and 1990’s Oscar best picture-winning “Dances With Wolves.”

“This is by far the biggest struggle,” Costner declared, when asked if ‘Horizon’ or ‘Dances with Wolves’ was more difficult to make. “I’m shocked at what we were able to get. I shot ‘Dances’ for 106 days, I shot the movie you’re just seeing right now in 52. … I did learn a lot and I was able to use every trick in the book to try to bring this movie to ground and to bring it to an audience. And there’s four of them!”

In the conversation, moderated by Deadline’s Mike Fleming, Costner also detailed the origins of the project and explained why he held onto this idea for more than 30 years.

“It’s hard to fall out of love. I don’t do that,” Costner said. “Things that have a classic feel they don’t fall out of touch either. I think they exist in any decade. That’s the opportunity we have in cinema is to make something that lasts past its opening weekend. I’ve never banked on opening weekends; I banked on people wanting to revisit something.”

With “Horizon” specifically, Costner wasn’t deterred when no one wanted to finance the movie; in fact, that gave him the “bright idea to make four,” he quipped, adding that, “There’s a lot of people out there that know I’m a little bit of a hard-head or something.”

In terms of the film’s tone, he wanted to step away from the well-worn Western tropes.

Because he was so passionate about this story, Costner said he eventually realized that he had to make it which mean looking to himself financially to do it.

“Not the smartest thing,” he admitted, alluding to the personal cost of risking his 10-acre Santa Barbara home to fund the movie series. “But I count on people. I count on the movie speaking louder than anything I can say. And so with that in mind, I just shoved West myself and I just left, and I went out to make this movie in Utah.

Costner then explained why he shot the film in the Beehive State. “When you go through Utah, it’s magic. And it wasn’t easy for us to do. There were certain things that weren’t set up that we see in other states. … But I kind of bypassed the smart business decision to go where my money could stretch farther.” Costner noted that the production spent over $100 million in Utah and employed more than 500 people over the course of the shoot. “We had an impact on the state, but the state had an impact on me.”

He also revealed that the movie was originally titled “Sidewinder,” but because he’d had a few movies that inspired copycats, like Robin Hood and Wyatt Earp, he wanted to throw the industry off his scent.

“I just thought, ‘I don’t want anybody stepping into whatever I’m trying to do,’ so I called it ‘Horizon’ and said it was written by my son just to disguise it when it went to the Writers Guild,” Costner said. “But the longer I started to think about it, the more I began to appreciate that dreams, going West, they’re always about ‘Out there.’ When you realize a country is bigger and farther than anyone ever dreamed, it is about the horizon.”

He explained: “Because everybody is looking for something — even today, in the relationships and what’s going on at work. They’re looking for room; they’re looking for fresh air. And our 200 year march across this country was no different.”

Costner also acknowledged the injustices that the film saga will explore, particularly as it explores the Civil War era, which he describes as “a mark on our country, however you choose to look at it — the loss of life, the reason it was fought, the things that we still haven’t solved, we’re still trying to come to terms with as a nation — but it closed the West in a blink of an eye.”

The war had kept the country’s on the east coast, but the minute it ended in 1865, everyone looked west again. “In 25 years, something that had been there for thousands of years, it was over. Our national appetite was to be satisfied at the at the disadvantage to those who had been there and flourished and were living in their own way,” Costner said, referring to the Indigenous populations who were crushed by the movement.

With so much experience in the western or cowboy genre in projects like “Dances With Wolves,” “Open Range,” and most recently as the star of “Yellowstone,” Costner cautioned that he’s not trying to reinvent the wheel with “Horizon.”

“You try not to separate yourself from the rest of the reindeer in terms of [saying] ‘I’m going to be different,’ because I’m not looking to set the record straight or make a history lesson,” he said of the film. “There’s just a way I look at movies: I’m gonna get to the action; I’m gonna get to my gunfight, but I’m gonna get there in maybe a different way. … The West is a real place with real issues.”

At the end of the day, Costner hopes to achieve a couple goals. “I want my little girl to see what her great, great, great-grandmother went through,” he said of his personal investment in the story. But on a broader scale, he hopes the ride is worth moviegoers’ money.

“The oldest profession is telling stories around a fire. We all want to hear a good one and we don’t want somebody to waste our time. And I take my time, I hope I don’t waste your time,” Costner said. “I made four of these. I’d like for us to all take those journeys and try to have a high understanding of this first one. The second one’s already shot. I’m out there, heading west again, pushing a rock uphill trying to make the third one. I know I’m a little bit kind of a joke, or it’s maybe humorous to even watch me, because it’s like, ‘Whoa, I wonder when he’s going to ever stop digging.’ I don’t know.”

At this point, the movie isn’t even his anymore. “Horizons” will now travel the world, as will the questions he’s been dreaming about for decades. Like, if he’d made that trek in the 1800s, would he have made it? He might not know the answer to that question, but he’s feeling pretty accomplished anyway.

“I’m terribly satisfied in my own life that God allowed me to get these first two done,” Costner said, quipping, “I mean, if I’m hit by lightning, who knows what happens? At least I went West.”

I Watched Live To 100 On Netflix, & It Changed My Perspective On Parenting

"When you know someone needs you and wants you to be in their life, that gives you longevity.”

A 100-year-old woman plays games with her family in 'Live to 100' on Netflix

When my kids get scared about losing me , I say, "Don't worry, I'm trying to live to be 100 years old. That's why I always eat salad." This relaxes them. Plus, it helps them understand why I constantly eat vegetables , which can be confusing to Happy-Meal-loving children.

The majority of Americans want to live to be 100, but unfortunately, life expectancy in the U.S. is 76.4, the lowest it has been in two decades. After hearing this statistic, I began to worry. It's entirely possible that I may never become an adorable centenarian who knits blankets, grows tomatoes , and eats Werther's Original candies.

Luckily, Netflix has given me a life plan to get to the golden century mark.

Live to 100 is a documentary that investigates day-to-day life in the "Blue Zones," where, compared to the rest of the world, far more people reach age 100. The four-part series follows Blue Zone expert Dan Buettner as he travels the globe to uncover habits that keep centenarians ticking. Not surprisingly, the show jumped into the Netflix Top 10 right after its release on Aug. 30.

Folks, I watched this show and came to a realization. I'll never live to 100 unless I change my parenting style. Seriously. I can eat salads and run marathons, but I'll never achieve the coveted full century unless I modify my parenting practices .

Many of the wise 100-year-olds on the show have a family life that's pretty different from my own. In Sardinia, ladies work together to cook meals, men are out in the fields with sheep, and families gather at the end of the day to laugh, play, and talk.

After sharing these idyllic scenes, the documentary notes that the stress rate of Americans exceeds the global average by 20%. This should be no shocker to moms scooting kids to school, appointments, and activities while squeezing in homework help and prepping healthy meals. Oh, and some moms have demanding careers on top of it all!

Well, the documentary gives a Blue Zone solution for stress. Here's what it is: A 93-year-old man stands on a serene mountainside watching over his flock of sheep, and in the evening, he will return home to share stories and wine with friends.

So, what does this have to do with stressed-out moms? Everything.

"Today in our urban world, through social media and news media, we are brought all of the problems of the whole world," says Mithu Storoni, a neuro-ophthalmologist. "These are problems you cannot physically control, but you can control how you treat your goat to make sure your flock is healthy."

A man watches his sheep in 'Live to 100' on Netflix

Ah-ha! I do not have any goats, but I do have kids — and I could definitely set aside my phone more often to pay attention to them. I can talk with them about their school day and their challenges, and even if I can't fix everything for them, I can make them feel better by ensuring their time at home is safe and supportive.

Seeing problems you cannot solve across social media will stress you out. Instead, we need to actively take control of challenges, get social support, and adapt based on available resources. Called "active coping," this tactic is amazingly good for your mental health.

In all of the Blue Zones, people have strong support systems and spend tons of time socializing.

One night, while making dinner, I watched as the families in the documentary played games together, exercised together, and cooked together. I looked up from the meal I was preparing and noticed my son watching TV and my daughter playing games on a tablet.

In America, most kids spend 5-7 hours on screens daily, and the number is far higher for adults.

At my house, there are days when screen time is minimal, but there are also plenty of days when my kids come home from school and watch TV. They'd probably have more fun helping me cook dinner, but I usually feel too tired to engage. Considering that 100-year-olds still have the energy to garden, play games, and sing songs, now I question whether I'm actually tired or if I'm being lazy.

Umeto Yamashiro, a 101-year-old lady from Japan, says, "Always have fun. Don't get angry. Have fun with everyone. Make everyone happy."

A woman plays games with her family in 'Live to 100' on Netflix

Perhaps the key to having more energy is trying to have more fun.

These centenarians are not sitting around at a nursing home; they're living in multigenerational houses with their children and grandchildren. Before you say, "But I hate my in-laws," consider this — there's a phenomenon called the "Grandmother Effect" that shows households with a grandparent, children, and grandchildren have lower rates of disease and better outcomes in life.

"When you know someone needs you and wants you to be in their life, that gives you longevity,” says Lorida Medina, an active 84-year-old from Loma Linda.

If being wanted and needed can help you live longer, mothers are ahead of the game.

There's no one on earth who wants me more than my 4-year-old, who likes to snuggle in the middle of the night. So, next time I hear "Mommmmyy" at 3 a.m., I'll be springing out of bed with a new attitude: These nighttime wake-ups might give me bags under my eyes tomorrow, but overall, I'm a tiny step closer to 100. Maybe.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Hallmark are teaming up for a holiday movie. Everything we know

The collab of a lifetime!

The Kansas City Chiefs and Hallmark are teaming up with the NFL and Skydance Sports to make a sweet holiday movie together.

The film, " Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story ," will star actors Tyler Hynes, Hunter King and Ed Begley Jr. The movie is about a woman named Alana, played by King, who hails from a family of Chiefs fans and strikes up a relationship with Derrick (Hynes), the director of fan engagement for the team.

The two end up spending a lot of time together once Alana's family enters the Chiefs' “Fan of the Year” contest. As sparks fly between them, things begin to go awry once Alana's grandfather's (Begley Jr.) loses his vintage Chiefs good-luck winter hat, according to a press release .

Her grandfather's missing prized possession makes Alana doubt everything she believed about fate until a little Christmas magic is thrown her way.

When and where will the Chiefs-Hallmark holiday movie film?

The movie will begin production in July 2024 and will film at various locations in Kansas City, Missouri, including the Chiefs' home venue at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

This is also the same stadium where Travis Kelce's girlfriend, Taylor Swift, performed for her "Eras Tour ."

“We are honored to partner with Hallmark on a project as unique as this,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said in a statement. “As a club, we pride ourselves on exploring new ways to grow our brand, as well as connect with new audiences. This partnership unites two passionate fanbases and gives us an opportunity to show Chiefs Kingdom’s energy and tradition on one of the most-watched channels during the holiday season.”

Darren Abbott, Hallmark's chief brand officer, also said he's looking forward to this venture with the NFL.

“With Hallmark and the Kansas City Chiefs both homegrown, rooted in values, tradition and community, there is a special alchemy between these two iconic organizations,” Abbott said in a statement. “By blending the warmth of Hallmark storytelling with the excitement of professional football, we are thrilled to give audiences a front-row seat to this community’s spirit, rich traditions and passionate fans that define Kansas City, all wrapped up in the comforting and uplifting Hallmark way.”

  • Gunn's Superman movie can explore aspects of the duo's relationship that haven't been explored onscreen prior.

Gorgeous DC Universe art envisions the love story begin between David Corenswet's Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane in the new Superman film. With James Gunn's DC Universe on its way, several beloved heroes are getting reimagined for the big and small screens. As Corenswet will be the next Superman in the world of cinema, Brosnahan will be the newest Lois as part of DC Studios' upcoming continuity.

The Superman movie cast is currently busy shooting their remaining material for the DC Universe movie, as principal photography will be concluding in July. While the world has yet to see Corenswet and Brosnahan together as their characters, talented artist Jobhutz shared new Superman artwork as Krypton's last son takes Lois to the skies .

According to Jobhutz, they looked at J. Totino Tedesco's previous Superman work featuring Clark and Lois flying for inspiration when they made their DC Universe artwork. To this point, the only times Brosnahan and Corenswet have been seen together during the Superman production was through the actress' TikTok video in February, Gunn's cast group photo they shared when filming first began, as well as during Superman Day in April .

Here are all the biggest reveals and teases worth pointing out from James Gunn's first full look at the DCU's new Superman and his exciting costume.

How The Superman Movie Can Explore New Territory For Clark Kent & Lois Lane

According to Gunn, the new Superman movie will not be an origin story for Clark Kent, but rather focus on the Man of Tomorrow during his early days as a superhero. However, this could very well be the case for Lois too, as the Superman story may explore the start of her journalistic career. As Gunn and Peter Safran are looking to run this DC Universe for as long as possible, it would be natural to have some of their most iconic characters not already be too far into their respective arcs.

In most live-action incarnations, once Clark gets to Metropolis, Lois is normally already far into her journey as the Daily Planet's star reporter. However, Superman could now explore the iconic couple on a similar path with their careers, which would also make the start of their love story very compelling. This would allow Superman to stand out a bit from previous movies based on the DC legend.

One of the bigger questions about this iteration is whether or not the Superman movie will end with Lois finding out that Clark and Superman are the same person. With a lot of details still being kept under wraps about Superman , there is a lot to look forward to with Gunn's reboot. Hopefully, once Superman officially wraps filming, Gunn will be closer to finally releasing the first trailer of the highly anticipated DC Universe movie.

Superman (2025)

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first movie in Warner Bros.' rebooted DC Universe to center around the titular comic book hero. It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill's departure from the role, honoring the character's roots as "the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way."

Netflix's 'Chronicles of Narnia' Adaptation Needs To Start With This Book

The Big Picture

  • The Narnia film franchise by Greta Gerwig should start with The Magician's Nephew for a fresh take.
  • Beginning with this prequel broadens the audience and introduces essential plot elements for future installments.
  • C.S. Lewis allegedly preferred The Magician's Nephew as the first book in the series, making the case for a chronological start.

The live-action future of The Chronicles of Narnia has been in flux for a while. Though Netflix first announced they had acquired the rights to the series of fantasy novels by C.S. Lewis in 2018, a serious lack of development made us wonder if it was ever actually going to happen . After all, the previous Narnia franchise ended prematurely after a lackluster third installment, and it's clear that Lewis' beloved novels aren't the easiest to adapt to the screen. Nevertheless, with the news that director Greta Gerwig is helming not one but two Narnia films ( with production imminent ), fans are both nervous and excited at the prospect of more. But which Narnian tale should Netflix start with? Well, we think that sometimes the best place to start is the very beginning, and that means The Magician's Nephew .

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

During the World War II bombings of London, four English siblings are sent to a country house where they will be safe. One day Lucy (Georgie Henley) finds a wardrobe that transports her to a magical world called Narnia. After coming back, she soon returns to Narnia with her brothers, Peter (William Moseley) and Edmund (Skandar Keynes), and her sister, Susan (Anna Popplewell). There they join the magical lion, Aslan (Liam Neeson), in the fight against the evil White Witch, Jadis (Tilda Swinton).

'The Chronicles of Narnia' Doesn't Chronologically Begin With 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'

When The Chronicles of Narnia was first published in 1950, it started with the well-known (and even more beloved) The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe . This novel reinvented the fantasy adventure as the four Pevensie children were thrust into the magical world of Narnia through a common household item. To say that there's a lot to love about The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe would be an understatement. Not only did C.S. Lewis spark new life into the fantasy genre , but he used something as childlike as fairy tales to convey even deeper spiritual truths about our world. But although The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the first and most popular book in The Chronicles of Narnia series , chronologically speaking, it's not the first.

In 1956, Lewis published The Magician's Nephew , a prequel to his original tale that chronicled the origins of the White Witch, the wardrobe, the kindly Professor Digory Kirk, and, of course, all of Narnia itself. This penultimate chapter in Lewis' series is set thousands of years beforehand in Narnian time. Turns out, the story really began long before Lucy first stepped into that enchanted wardrobe. Tackling basic Christian themes of original sin, temptation, redemption, and natural law, as well as firmly establishing Narnia as existing in a greater multiverse (long before that term was even popular), The Magician's Nephew is a triumph that proves that prequels can be just as good as their predecessors . For that reason, Greta Gerwig ought to kick off Netflix's Narnia franchise with this story instead.

C.S. Lewis's 'Chronicles of Narnia' Novels Ranked

“Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen of Narnia.”

Of course, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is by and large the most recognizable of all of Lewis' novels, but it's precisely because of its popularity that Netflix should attempt something different. Not different in terms of drastically changing the source material ( The Rings of Power has proven the dangers in that), but different in the way the adaptations are structured. When it comes to The Chronicles of Narnia , many are already familiar with the story of Lucy, Edmund, and Aslan. We know how the Great Lion defeats the White Witch. What many casual viewers don't know is how Narnia began in the first place , and how the White Witch first made her way there. Perhaps starting there would generate a greater impact when The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is inevitably adapted again.

'The Magician's Nephew' Would Make Greta Gerwig's Narnia Franchise Stand Out

One of the biggest arguments for why any Narnia adaptation worth its salt ought to begin with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is because that's the way C.S. Lewis originally wrote it. There's certainly a strong case to be made for The Lion because, as Lucy first steps into the magical land of Narnia, so does the audience also. Through her, we experience all the same enchantment and wonder for the very first time, and Narnia becomes as new and exciting to us as it does Lucy. This is something that the 2005 Andrew Adamson adaptation did well, and Netflix would do well to emulate. But The Magician's Nephew has the same potential for re-enchantment if we let it .

For example, the moment Digory and Polly appear in the Wood Between the Worlds (the multiversal doorway that would inspire Star Wars ' own "World Between Worlds" ) reveals that Narnia is not the only parallel universe one can visit. In fact, before the pair even set foot in Narnia, they first find themselves in Charn, where they inadvertently wake up Jadis — the giant empress who would become the White Witch. When they do finally arrive in Narnia, they do so at the very instant Aslan is singing his world into existence, which is even more enchanting than Lucy's initial arrival in the wintery wonderland . Because audiences have already seen The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe , The Magician's Nephew would be a breath of fresh air for returning fans as well as new ones , showing just what the world of Narnia is capable of.

There's also the matter of the characters themselves. Digory and Polly are both fascinating individuals, and while we know Digory later on as the quirky and somewhat elusive Professor Kirke, as a boy he's an even more curious and complicated character. Not only does he have his "mad" Uncle Andrew (a scientist who becomes more of a wizard) to deal with, but his mother is slowly dying, giving him a need far greater than his own. Polly, too, is a fun character, who balances Digory's inquisitive attitude with her practical and non-nonsense charm. Both are the adventurous sort, and each have their own important lessons to learn from their time wandering between worlds , as well as their eventual meeting with Aslan.

'The Magician's Nephew' Would Make Netflix's Narnia Franchise More Complete

In beginning with The Magician's Nephew , Greta Gerwig and Netflix have the potential to expand their audience even further. While longtime fans of C.S. Lewis' original Chronicles of Narnia books should always be at the forefront of their minds (we're a loyal, built-in fanbase after all), there's no harm in wanting to expand your reach. Starting here might help. Not only does The Magician's Nephew feel like the very beginning of the story, but it also sets up numerous plotlines that will eventually be paid off in later installments . But there's one other connection that might make starting with The Magician's Nephew even more important: Tash.

Though the demon-god Tash doesn't appear in The Magician's Nephew , he's first mentioned in the standalone chronicle The Horse and His Boy as the god of the Calormen people. In The Last Battle , it's revealed that Tash isn't just a man-made idol, but a real demonic creature. He becomes something of the final antagonist of the Narnian world before Aslan destroys him forever. But to connect back to The Magician's Nephew , the popular YouTube channel, Into the Wardrobe cleverly pointed out that images of Tash seem to appear on the official illustrations of Charn in the novel . As Digory and Polly explore Jadis' world, it seems like maybe, when they took her out of Charn and brought her to Narnia, they may have also let Tash in as well. If this theory were woven into Netflix's adaptations, it could connect the very first installment of the franchise to the last, making The Chronicles of Narnia more cohesive than ever.

C.S. Lewis Wanted 'The Magician's Nephew' To Be Read First

You would never start reading The Chronicles of Narnia with Prince Caspian or The Silver Chair ( which was almost made into a movie ). Both stories require some context from previous chapters, and feature characters who cross over from other books. But you could easily begin reading the series with either The Magician's Nephew or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe , if you were so inclined. There's been a longstanding debate among Narnia fans as to which reading order is best: the publication order or the chronological order. Each has its merits, to be sure, and when it came to the live-action film series, it made sense that the publication order was chosen . But for a streamer like Netflix, that will one day have folks binging the entire series (if it manages to adapt everything through The Last Battle ), perhaps the chronological order would be best .

In recent copies of The Magician's Nephew , HarperCollins has inserted the following disclaimer: "Although The Magician's Nephew was written several years after C. S. Lewis first began The Chronicles of Narnia , he wanted it to be read as the first book in the series. HarperCollins is happy to present these books in the order in which Professor Lewis preferred." According to NarniaWeb , Lewis himself preferred the chronological order when reading The Chronicles of Narnia , despite having originally written them out of order. That alone should be enough for Netflix to abide by the same. Whichever way the streaming giant eventually brings us into the world of Narnia ( make The Voyage of the Dawn Treader a series , you cowards!), we can only hope that these adaptations are faithful to the books and capture the same spirit of C.S. Lewis' original works.

#7 –  Love’s Christmas Journey (2012)

Love's Christmas Journey

It was really hard to decide where to put this movie since it has characters that are barely mentioned or not mentioned at all in any of the other movies. I decided to put it here because it makes the most sense character-wise since all the movies that follow this have Belinda in them. You may wish to watch it last or watch it separately, at Christmas time.

Main Characters –

Ellie Davis King (Clark and Marty’s daughter, not mentioned in the films but in the book Love’s Enduring Promise) & Aaron Davis (Clark and Marty’s daughter, seen in the movie Love’s Enduring Promise), both half-siblings of Missy (daughter of Clark & Ellen, who dies in Love’s Everlasting Courage)

Summary – Inspired by the best-selling “Love Comes Softly” book franchise written by Janette Oke, the first-ever uplifting, almost 3 hours, Christmas story in the series.

While still mourning the loss of her husband and daughter (neither her husband nor daughter are in any other movies), recently widowed Ellie Davis King visits her brother Aaron Davis and his children for Christmas.

Ellie agrees to watch Aaron’s children when he has to leave town. When a fire is set, Ellie works with a handsome deputy to clear a friends name and learns that if she can trust her faith, this Christmas may bring more miracles than she hoped.

#11 –  Love Finds a Home (2009)

Love Finds A Home

Is it any Good?  Bear-ometer score: 76% like it

Mommy bear’s family movie review –this one is a little bit more boring than the others in the series in my opinion but i still enjoyed it. the storyline is not as dynamic as the rest of it is..

On this movie Haley Duff’s character was pregnant. She then qent to be with her husband before the birth of her baby. Lillian was adopted from the orphanage on this movie. She wasn’t grown up. Also it ended with Belinda getting married. She wasnt pregnant. There is another movie out there somewhere. I remember seeing it several years ago. Lillian was probably 16. Belinda was pregnant. They lived in a white house. I think Belinda and a boyfriend went in a cave and started caving in. She and the boyfriend were rescued by her adopted Dad. Does anyone remember what I’m talking about?

July 21, 2018 at 10:59 pm

I accidentally typed Belinda. It should be Lillian and her boyfriend went in a cave or something similar to one.

I agree, I would love to see them in order, to make more sense of the story he is trying to portray, I loves these shows but would like to see them in order and WITHOUT Commercials. Also I saw them on TBN and they are selling them which I thinks sucks.

' src=

August 15, 2020 at 7:00 pm

I am not sure what you mean by “they are selling them.” Could you elaborate?

Love’s Christmas Journey comes sometime after Love’s Unending Legacy and around the time of Love’s Unfolding Dream since Aaron and Ellie are Clark and Marty’s children (married in Love Comes Softly) and Missy is older than Aaron by 10-12 years (Belinda in Unfolding Dream is Missy’s adopted daughter). Hope that helps.

January 10, 2016 at 9:46 pm

I thought marty and clarke had two son’s. Aaron who Marty was pregnant with when her husband Aaron died and another son who is “Loves enduring promise”? I did not remember that they had a girl (ellie). Can anyone clear up?

' src=

August 21, 2016 at 3:46 pm

Me either I’ve watched all except this one

July 21, 2018 at 9:23 pm

Clark snd Missy had 2 boys. The first one was by her husband that died then they had a boy together.

' src=

December 21, 2016 at 9:35 pm

I believe in the books series they had a daughter named Ellie =)

' src=

April 17, 2020 at 5:40 am

The movies are quite different from the books. I think the titles are in the same order as the books, but there are a lot of differences in the story line.

' src=

October 17, 2020 at 6:36 pm

Yes the difference are vastly different! In my opinion so different that they are barely related. Same time period and some similar names but other than that they don’t go together. I like the movies but can’t think of them as the books turned into movies. Even the movies seem a bit disjointed.

July 2, 2017 at 7:30 pm

Clark had a daughter by his first wife..his first wife died ND then he met soon to to be second wife who was married too..and her husband died. She was pregnant by her first husband had a boy..then she had another baby boy by Clark her second husband..

' src=

July 25, 2017 at 4:58 am

Ellie was in the book series but not the movie. It gets confusing. Hope this answers your question.

' src=

August 3, 2017 at 2:06 am

I was also wondering who Ellie was also, when Missy met Willy, Clarke and Marty had 2 sons?

' src=

August 19, 2017 at 3:56 am

in the book Marty has the son of her first husband, then a son and a daughter with Clark. In the movies they change Willie’s background to add more drama and they neglect to add Marty & Clarks adopted daughters.

' src=

September 28, 2018 at 8:52 pm

Please forgive me if I’m wrong. I got interested in the series when Hallmark showed several of them on s Saturday a few weeks ago. I haven’t seen all of them yet. I have ordered the DVD’s. In one of the movies I watched Marty and Clark had two sons and the daughter that they lost due to crib death. Then the local pastor talks her in to adopting an older daughter. Afterwards they find out that the girl has a brother given to another abusive family. Anyway they eventually get him away from the family. I’m sorry but I don’t remember all the names.

' src=

December 2, 2019 at 2:47 pm

They did not state that the last child after Aaron was a boy. The child never spoke in the movie and the child’s name was never mentioned. It could have been a girl. Remember Missy as a child, she dressed in boys clothes. Also the boy Marty had from her first husband did not die. She named him after her first husband. He is the child that caused Clark’s accident with the ax on his leg.

' src=

April 12, 2020 at 12:25 am

Marty had Aaron, from her late husband. Clark delivered and raised him. Clark had Missy, from his late wife Ellen. Clark and Marty has another boy; which they named Arnie. He does speak a few lines in the movie, Love’s Enduring Promise, then you never hear him mentioned again.

' src=

February 27, 2022 at 9:06 pm

Ellie was adopted

' src=

July 5, 2021 at 8:54 pm

I believe the second child’s name is Ernie, not Ellie. He is the direct child of Clark and Marty after their marriage. He appears in Love’s Enduring Promise. Patrick 😊

Please Note: Number 9 and Number 10 came out last in production but if you want to watch them in the order of the story line and what comes first in the order of time then you must start with no#9 listed here as it is number #1 in the story. Then watch #10 listed here next which is the 2nd DVD in the story. Then the rest of the order here is correct because their listing of no#1 Love comes softly is 3rd in the story line. Love comes Softly was the first book written and most of us read it and fell in love with the story. And each year or so the Author would come out with another book; usually of the next generation. After the last DVD in the series; Love finds a Home, The Public Loved the Story so much that Janette Oke finally went back and wrote about the past lives of the 2 main characters that started in her first book Love comes Softly. So those are Love Begins and then Love’s everlasting courage. That should be watched before Love comes Softly. As far as Loves Christmas Journey…i would watch that last. You can kept reading the many comments but i can assure you my comment is the real deal. I have all 11 DVDs and all the books and plan to past them down in my family after I’m dress and gone. I’m 65 yrs old and have been enjoying these since i was a young mother. GOD BLESS , ENJOY!

' src=

September 19, 2018 at 8:39 pm

Pamela, That is awesome! I watched “Love Comes Softly” on Hallmark Channel last night. (I recorded it and got too busy to watch it a couple of weeks ago when it was on.) I knew of the book and remembered it as I watched the movie because years ago my younger sister passed all her Janette Oake books on to me after she read them. Anyway, I decided last night to share these movies (the whole series) with my soon to be 11 year old granddaughter. (I also have to look and see if I still have the books in my book collection – probably do!)

I am a couple of years older than you and still enjoy a good, Godly love story. This is why I want to share it with my granddaughter! Thanks for sharing – it blessed my heart to know there were others in my age group watching these movies. I pray they have a wonderful impact on my granddaughter!

' src=

February 3, 2021 at 7:18 pm

Putting #9 and #10 at the beginning makes no sense! They are about Clark and Marty’s adopted granddaughter. To put them at the beginning before Clark and Marty even meet is illogical!

' src=

May 24, 2021 at 4:18 am

Thank you for clearing that up. It was confusing to have the #9 character have the same name as the #1 character and HIS daughter is also named Missy! NOW it all makes since!! My husband and I love these sweet Christian movies and will be sad to get to the end. I guess all we lack is the Christmas movie. Thank you again!

July 22, 2019 at 3:17 am

It’s listed. It’s number 7. I love the movies. I’ve watched them so many times.

' src=

November 6, 2021 at 11:06 pm

Its number 7 on the list above

' src=

January 4, 2023 at 9:52 am

It’s mentioned earlier. I think #8

September 18, 2012 at 12:29 am

Love's Christmas Journey takes place after Love Finds a Home.

' src=

December 19, 2016 at 10:01 pm

You are correct on that!

November 14, 2012 at 6:19 am

I haven't watched any of these yet because it seemed impossible to figure out the order, and I'm picky that way. Thank you so much for doing this!

November 24, 2012 at 11:37 pm

the order is definitely confusing! I'm not sure the order listed here is correct? Can anyone help? I have 10 DVDs in the series…. now I found Loves Beginning and Love's Christmas Journey…. so… Is Loves Beginning the 1st and not Love Comes Softly?

November 28, 2012 at 11:30 pm

Yes. The order is very confusing. The first three came out last but are actually the first ones in the series. Love's Christmas Journey is first (just came out on DVD about a month ago) then Love Begins and so on.

' src=

March 28, 2016 at 1:30 am

loves christmas journey is not first, as it is about Aaron which is Marty’s son from her first marriage, that she has in love comes softly, so it would most likely be last or around the same time as the last one which is love finds a home.

July 22, 2019 at 3:22 am

It should be after loves abiding joy. I wish Clark and Missy were in the latter movie

' src=

May 20, 2017 at 1:31 am

If you go by the way they came out, the order is: 1.Love comes softly. 2:Loves enduring promise 3:Loves Long journey 4: Loves Abiding Joy 5:Loves unending Legacy. 6:Loves Unfolding Dream 7: Love Takes Wing. 8:Love finds a home 9:Love Begins. 10:Loves Everlasting Courage 11:Loves Christmas Journey. I bought them as they came out in this order.

' src=

September 12, 2021 at 3:38 am

We have watched 2 of these movies and I really liked them, so glad you put them in order for my husband and I. Thanks

November 29, 2012 at 5:05 pm

SO: There are 11 total in the Love Comes Softly Series?

' src=

December 2, 2016 at 4:37 pm

I have just purchased the 10 DVD set of “Love Comes Softly”. Now I want to purchase the “Loves Christmas Journey”. I have fallen in Love with this series ans wish to find out if there is a listing of anymore in this same art of watching and the older ones that take part in this age or Year. I am 89 years of age and I find these type of film to be the finiest ever printed in to film. The younger Generation can learn much from the way of life in those days and what they had to do to get along and it was fun time too. Thank You for any and all information you can give to me. I am late at finding this site and much has gone on before my seeing this site. Please excuse my intelligence on this must wonderful Site. Please keep up your good work for all of us.

August 3, 2017 at 2:13 am

If you watch Love Begins, (1st movie) that is when they introduce Clarke Davis, he ends up marring Ellen, his first wife. Then comes Loves Everlasting Courage. Ellen and Clarke have a daughter Missy. Then the story goes to Love Comes Softly after Clarke lost his wife Ellen, Missy is about 8 when Marty comes into the picture.

February 3, 2021 at 7:26 pm

I totally agree!

March 12, 2013 at 10:46 pm

Thanks for the list. I haven’t seen half of these. Guess I have something to look for.

March 13, 2013 at 4:46 am

Thanks for the list. I haven't seen half of these. Guess I have something to look for.

March 24, 2013 at 12:25 pm

This order is wrong. Movies in a series are meant to be viewed chronologically which is how the writer/director intends it for the audience. It is impossible to look at movies in your order, because while we were viewing Love Comes Softly in 2003, Christmas Journey was not created until a decade later. Christmas Journey has to be viewed last… that is the point of creating what is known as a “prequel”.

March 24, 2013 at 6:03 pm

i love this series! and yes this MUST MUST be watched in order

March 28, 2013 at 6:00 pm

This list is meant for those people who buy the movies and want to watch them in the order that they happened in the character's lives, not production order. If you want to watch them in production order, we have the release date so you can easily figure that out. Thanks for stopping by!

' src=

August 10, 2014 at 3:49 am

Vishwanath Samsundar- Sorry to tell you but this order listed here is correct- They just weren’t produced that way. I’ve watched all of these on numerous occasions and own several.

August 3, 2017 at 2:15 am

Who is Ellie? In the Christmas Journey…I haven’t seen that one yet, but can’t seem to be able to figure out where she fits in?

' src=

March 31, 2019 at 5:37 am

She was Marty and Clark’s daughter in the books. I like the movies but I am tired of all the husbands dying. They didn’t in the books. Belinda was not adopted but Clark and Marty’s youngest daughter. The movies have changed the family members around and changed story lines. I whole heartedly encourage reading the book series it was my absolute favorite growing up and I made sure I got it on kindle so I know I can read it at any time.

March 26, 2013 at 4:19 am

I love these movies Love Comes Softly. Can someone email me the names and order the movies comes in so I can make sure I have them all. My email is [email protected] . Thanks Mary

July 21, 2018 at 12:02 am

Rebecca the list you posted is correct right? I remember watching several of them it went way back to before Missy was born so it was kinda confusing. I love these movies. Will there be any more in the future to add to the Love Saga?

May 2, 2013 at 8:00 am

I appreciated your listing all the Janette Oke movies in order! Thanks–these movies have really given me a much needed lift!

May 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm

May 14, 2013 at 12:08 pm

loves christmas journey is not the first one. its one of the last arron is marty’s son which she dosen’t have till she marries clark. but love begins and loves everlasting courage are a prequal to love comes softly and are before marty and clark meet.

November 4, 2013 at 9:38 pm

Love’s Christmas Journey takes place after Love Finds a Home.

November 5, 2013 at 4:38 am

Love's Christmas journey cant be first its about Aaron, Marty's son so how can it be first? Love Begins is first, Love's Christmas journey is or should be last. I am going to keep searching, I have all the movies and would also like to know the order.

January 7, 2014 at 7:55 pm

1.Love Comes Softly is first,2. Love's Enduring Promise, 3.Love's Long Journey,4. Love's Abiding Joy,5. Loves, Unending Legacy,6. Love's Unfolding Dream, 7.Love Takes Wing,8.Love Finds A Home, 9. Love Begins.10. Love's Everlasting Courage, 11. Love's Christmas Journey. I have all of them but the last two. I Love them and watch them often.

' src=

October 29, 2015 at 6:53 pm

I don’t understand how everyone can say that Love comes softly is first…how do you think the whole sequence started.. with Clark Davis and Ellen Barlow..which afterwards they got married and missy was born… now the story goes on after that..

January 7, 2014 at 8:28 pm

Love that series but only have first 3 hint hint my husband

January 8, 2014 at 12:24 am

I have 9 of them.

June 2, 2014 at 2:46 pm

You forgot the last movie Love’s Christmas Journey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love%27s_Christmas_Journey

June 2, 2014 at 8:46 pm

They have the order right except for the first one. Ellie and Aaron are Marty and Clark's kids, so that movie would have to be sometime after Love Comes Softly. These movies have the characters and the timeline all screwed up. The books make more sense. But I still love these movies.

' src=

June 15, 2014 at 2:11 am

My daughter and I are reading the books. We just read the movie synopsis that says that Willie dies. My daughter doesn’t even want to watch the movies anymore. Why would they stray that far from the original story line? Then she adopts the girl who is her sister in the books? I do not understand why they made such major changes in the story line. Disappointed 🙁

' src=

April 5, 2015 at 10:32 pm

Love comes softy is the first movie and love endearing promise is this second

October 28, 2015 at 2:27 am

This is how it begins… Love begins.Love’s Everlasting courage..Love comes softly..love’s Enduring Promise…love’s long journey…love’s Abiding joy…love’s Unending Legacy…love’s Unfolding dreams…love’s takes Wings…Love finds a home..love’s Christmas journey…

' src=

September 3, 2016 at 5:46 pm

YESSS!! Deb M.. I have them all and all of the books. Watching them today.. I didn’t want to argue with anyone or hurt anyone’s feelings by sounding rude. But YOU ARE CORRECT!! (smiley face) Thank you for clearing this up for everyone..

August 11, 2018 at 2:58 am

I agree. I have researched this for years and this is the way i watch them. If you what them how they came out then you will just get confused!!

' src=

May 30, 2015 at 12:15 am

So i’m confused…where is the Christmas one supposed to go in the story?

' src=

November 2, 2015 at 1:25 am

These movies are wonderful I love God’s message in each one There is not enough movies like this anymore.

' src=

December 8, 2015 at 11:51 am

I just recently purchased Loves Comes Softly, and my mother (91) and I watched it about 5 times, plus. Then I saw 4 other movies from this series and purchased them and now we are watching them. The order is confusing, but when I found your list of the correct order that was so helpful, now I can tell my children what I need from my Christmas list.

' src=

August 20, 2017 at 1:11 am

I just finish Volume 1 & 2 of the Love Comes Softly series by Janette Oke. I just read a comment from Yvonne Hale from Dec Dec 8th 2015, saying they found 4 more movies from this series. I would really like to find these DVDs. Is there any way I can find out the names and where to find the rest of this series??

' src=

February 25, 2019 at 2:45 pm

THEY ARE SHOWING AGAIN NOW ON THE HALLMARK CHANNEL 187 AND YOU CAN RECORD THEM.DURING FEBRUARY AND MARCH OF 2019.

' src=

January 1, 2016 at 5:35 am

Where does ellie come in when did clark and marty have her? Thought the only girl was missy….

' src=

January 10, 2016 at 8:10 pm

You commentators are largely correct on “Loves Christmas Journey”. The story occurs somewhere between “Love Takes Wing” and “Love Finds a Home” but is not directly related to these characters. Aaron Davis and Ellie King in this story are the half-brother and sister of Missie Davis and the natural children of Clark and Marty. The story, like “Love Begins” and “Love’s Everlasting Courage” is not written by Janet Oke. It should appear last in your published order for viewing. Maybe there is confusion over Ellie. She is not the Ellie who marries Clark Davis, but his daughter.

You can date the movies roughly from the 1850’s gold rush (Love Begins) and the dates on the crosses at the start of “Love’s Unending Legacy” (Sonny Huff – 1879, Kathy LaHaye – 1885 – Willie LaHaye – 1886)

I hope this helps

' src=

July 23, 2017 at 11:07 pm

Uh, Aaron is the baby who was born at the end of Love Comes Softly. His father was Aaron, who died, making Marty a widow, who then married Clark. He was an adult in Love’s Christmas Journey in 2011 (8 years after he was born in the 2003 movie! ). Clark and Marty had another son, Arnie, in the second movie. I don’t know who Ellie is, from Love’s Christmas Journey. Maybe Clark and Marty had another daughter after Missy married Willie and they moved away? Is she mentioned in any of the movies when Clark and/or Marty visit or write to Missy? And I always wondered what happened to Ellen’s younger sister, Cassie, after Ellen married Clark in Love Begins. (I’ve seen them all lots of times on Hallmark and TBN!)

July 23, 2017 at 11:12 pm

I meant in the movie made second (2004), Love’s Enduring Promise, not the second chronologically. So confusing!

p.s. I’ve only seen the one where Willie dies two times, several years apart. I don’t like that one.

' src=

February 3, 2016 at 12:47 am

i like all of them ,, i hope she can make more 🙂

' src=

March 7, 2016 at 5:03 am

Thanks for the list! Exactly what I wanted.

It made me laugh that you find the last one boring – that’s my very favorite! I think it’s hilarious. I guess I like character development more than exciting plot.

' src=

August 29, 2016 at 4:47 pm

Great series! It makes you want to watch more!

' src=

September 12, 2016 at 2:29 am

Where did Cassie go? I don’t recall her being mentioned.

' src=

February 23, 2017 at 3:51 pm

What happened to Ellen’s sister, Cassie. She is not mentioned in the next movie after Ellen and Clark at wed.

February 23, 2017 at 3:53 pm

I assume Clark Davis had a son also named Clark Davis, but there is no explanation as to how they became separated.

' src=

May 1, 2017 at 12:13 am

everyone who left comments said something different about the order of the movies …so I am still very confused ….

' src=

August 5, 2017 at 12:39 am

I just watched in this order..

Love Comes Softly Loves Enduring Promise Loves Long Journey Loves Abiding Joy Loves Unending Legacy Loves Unfolding Dream (it says The sixth installment) in the description.

I’m gonna watch the other 4 now and see if I can figure out the order. I watch it every time it’s on but they haven’t had all 11 on yet. Unless I missed recording them.

' src=

October 20, 2017 at 3:47 pm

My friend recommended these books to me, so I bought part 1 of the collection (books 1-4) but haven’t read them yet. Just last night I found 3 of the movies in a used book store and snatched them up, but had no idea what order they go. Thanks for this page – it will really help me to know in what order to watch the movies as I track them down!

' src=

April 10, 2018 at 4:41 pm

Here is a couple possible ways that I think the order of the movies go. 1. Love Begins; 2. Love’s Everlasting Courage; 3. Love Comes Softly; 4. Love’s Enduring Promise; 5. Love’s Long Journey; 6. Love’s Abiding Joy; 7. Love’s Unending Legacy; 8. Love’s Christmas Journey; 9. Love’s Unfolding Dream; 10. Love Takes Wing; 11. Love Finds a Home; 1. Love Begins; 2. Love’s Everlasting Courage; 3. Love Comes Softly; 4. Love’s Enduring Promise; 5. Love’s Long Journey; 6. Love’s Abiding Joy; 7. Love’s Unending Legacy; 8. Love’s Unfolding Dream; 9. Love Takes Wing; 10. Love Finds a Home. Then Similar to /Inspired by movies Above is Love’s Christmas Journey. My sisters and I have been trying to figure the exact order of the movies and we have come to the conclusion that maybe Love’s Christmas Journey doesn’t fit into the order of the rest of the movies so it should be watched at a different time then the rest of them. If one of these orders is not correct then I am still very confused. So if someone could let me known what you think that would be great!

' src=

September 18, 2018 at 5:31 pm

Hi there… took me a little while to figure them out as well but I think viewers have a better knowledge of the order than the producers or TV networks. I agree with your second version and that Christmas Journey is not part of the series- Aaron would be a character but his sister was Missy, not Ellie. He was named after his mother’s first husband, & his biological father(Marty was married to Aaron when he died in Comes Softly). I am rewatching all the movies right now and started with Christmas Journey, just finished Long Journey, so the first few are fresh in my mind.

July 24, 2018 at 6:07 pm

Sorry, everyone! I just went through and changed the order of the movies and now I’m pretty sure I have them in the correct order. I got my information from the link at the bottom of the page from Hallmark Channel. They should know the order but I did find they don’t know as much as they should. They forget to include one of the movies. I researched IMDB and found where it fits in. Enjoy the movies!

September 17, 2018 at 7:22 pm

WOW! From the first time I pulled this page up until now, approximately 6 months time span, SOMEONE has changed the “order” of the list of these great movies! You can’t just do that – Love’s Everlasting, the one SOMEONE has changed to #-10 HAS be number ONE because it STARTS the series with Clark and his FIRST wife. My question is, WHERE does Christmas Journey fit in? It’s obviously not the first but not the last either as Aaron, one of the main characters is the baby from Love Comes Softly(named after his deceased father) after Clark remarries but Ellie was not Aaron’s sister, Missy was…. so was this a production error or just an extra movie??? And this also would have meant Missy had remarried a third time from her sheriff husband, had a third child(WHEN DID ALL THIS HAPPEN??!!) YES, I HAVE WATCHED THESE MOVIES A LOT AND AS I AM NOW AN ENGLISH MAJOR, AM VERY INTO PROOFING/EDITING….

September 17, 2018 at 7:42 pm

Oh my! And I have to admit I am wrong…Love Begins HAS to be the first because that’s when Clark and Ellen first meet- then Everlasting Journey, followed by Comes Softly…..then etc etc. I still think Christmas Journey IS NOT part of the series but from the same producers, writers and same storyline.

September 18, 2018 at 5:39 pm

Lots of opinions but I guess when you watch these movies so many times, one would become somewhat of an expert(of what I’m not sure), but seems like I notice something more or different every time I watch. So, it would start with Love Begins, Everlasting Coursge, Comes Softly, Enduring Promise, Long Journey, Abiding Joy, Unending Legacy, Unfolding Dream, Takes Wing, & Finds a Home(all Love, of course). The Christmas Journey is not part of the series but does have some of the same characters, follows a split storyline, etc.. I have to say, these movies have a calming influence on my mind when I’m stressed- glad they came out on DVD!

' src=

September 19, 2018 at 4:19 am

From what I’ve seen, April has the perfect list according to storyline. Even though Love Begins & Love’s Everlasting Courage were produced last (2011), they were written to begin the series. After the 1st two, the rest were produced from 2003 to 2009, except for Love’s Christmas Journey=2012. Clear as mud?? Anyway, very worthwhile TV watching. Yay, Hallmark! PS FYI: Some movies are shown on Hallmark Channel & some on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Do check the guide…

September 20, 2018 at 6:58 pm

And is it just me it seems to me like they like to play some of them a lot and then some of them hardly ever. I’m sure that’s partly because some really aren’t as good as the others . . .

' src=

November 1, 2019 at 1:09 am

So where do you watch the Christmas movie in the series? I am going to binge watch them with my kids but it’s been a while so now I lost track of the order and I just ordered the Xmas dvd that I was missing. I know it’s been a year but I appreciate it. 🙂

September 20, 2018 at 7:00 pm

OK. Check out the list now and see if you think I got it right. I was confused there for a bit. It makes it especially confusing when they use different characters for the same people and they just play them so randomly on Hallmark.

September 20, 2018 at 7:56 pm

AARON DAVIS AND ELLIE KING IN THIS STORY ARE THE HALF-BROTHER AND SISTER OF MISSIE DAVIS AND THE NATURAL CHILDREN OF CLARK AND MARTY. THE STORY, LIKE “LOVE BEGINS” AND “LOVE’S EVERLASTING COURAGE” IS NOT WRITTEN BY JANET OKE. DON’T BE CONFUSED BY ELLIE. SHE IS NOT THE ELLIE WHO MARRIES CLARK DAVIS, BUT HIS DAUGHTER. This is the plot summary for Love’s Christmas Journey… not sure where it came from because if Ellie were really one of Clark & Marty Davis’ natural children, I think she would have shown up in an earlier movie, such as Love’s Unending Legacy OR Love’s Unfolding Dream. Also, Aaron is Marty’s natural child but not Clark’s- Aaron’s father died at the beginning of Love Comes Softly, that’s who he’s named after “Aaron Luke, his father and mine” Marty tells Clark the day he’s born. Marty and Clark do have a son together but his name is Arnie. Ok, this has made me tired and I need a nap… The movies are all good and Hallmark is remiss in playing them all together when they show “marathons”.

read the book series I don’t understand how anyone could get things so messed up. the baby who died was Kathy and she was not clark and marty’s baby but willie and missy’s. also missy is the one who adopted belinda who was the orphan from the train and her brother eventually. yes clark and martie did have two sons. in the love’s enduring promise aaron who is the son from aaron and marty then there is arnie who is the son of clark and marty. in that series they have three children.

Sorry, but if you read the books you know that they are in the right order, to begin with, the way the movies were made. As a writer myself I know we sometimes go back after and do a backstory to fill you in like them remembering where certain things happened. It doesn’t make the order wrong with the way the books or movies were made. Think of it as someone coming into your life at one point then later you telling them about your parents’ or grandparents’ lives before you. It doesn’t mean that they should’ve told you about them before you learn about them.

I like all the movies with Belinda. I like smart women. They are a turn on Although Katherine Heigl is among my favorite actors, so her movies are good too.

Avoiding the News? 5 Alternative Ways to Keep Up With Current Affairs

5 ways to watch youtube without going to youtube, why i'm excited about the new gif tool on chromebooks.

The top video streaming service, Netflix, started by shipping DVDs to customers by mail. Fast forward a few decades, and Netflix consumes more than 15 percent of the world's internet bandwidth and has subscribers in more than 190 countries.

How did it achieve such staggering success? It has been a long road of trial and error, luck, and perfect timing. This article covers the history behind Netflix, including how it started, when it became an online streaming service, and all the key milestones in the company's journey.

The Idea Behind Netflix

Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in a small California city called Scotts Valley in Santa Cruz county.

Hastings has said the idea was sparked by a $40 fine he got for renting the movie Apollo 13 from long-dead Blockbuster and returning it six weeks late. While working out at the gym one day, the sting of the fine inspired him to think of a service that allowed one to order a movie online and get it by mail.

According to Marc Randolph, this story is false and was just a marketing gag. Instead, in early 1997, Reed was the CEO of the company they worked for (Pure Atria), and Marc was its VP of Corporate Marketing. Because a looming merger with another firm would leave them both out of a job, Marc says Reed had told him, "Let's come up with an idea and you can run it and I'll fund it."

As they carpooled to work every day from their homes in Santa Cruz to Silicon Valley, Marc, who wanted to start something like Amazon, pitched all sorts of e-commerce ideas to Reed: surfboards, custom-built baseball bats, personalized dog food, and home-delivery shampoo. To all of them, Reed's reply was simply, "that will never work."

Then, Marc heard of a hot new product invented in Japan called the DVD. He realized DVDs would soon replace VHS Cassettes, and after a bit of brainstorming in the car on Highway 17, Reed was sold on the idea.

On a hot summer in 1997, Marc and Reed walked into Logos Books & Records in Santa Cruz, bought a CD of Patsy Cline's greatest hits, and mailed it to Reed's house a few blocks across the town. When the CD arrived intact, they knew they had found their ticket to e-commerce glory.

On August 29, 1997, Netflix was registered and set up using at least $1.9 million from Reed Hastings, and other investors later supplemented this capital. Hastings became Chairman with 70% ownership, and Marc Randolph, the CEO and a minority owner.

The Early Days of Netflix

After a few iterations in its first few years, Netflix eventually crafted a successful business model: a subscription-based service with no due dates or late fees and unlimited access to content at $19.95.

It also had a queue that subscribers use to specify the order in which DVDs should be mailed to them and a delivery system that automatically mails out a DVD as soon as the previous DVD is returned.

At first, Netflix would pack the DVDs in white envelopes, and it wasn't until 2000 that Netflix changed them to yellow envelopes. Afterward, it only took the company one year to switch to the iconic red envelopes we're more familiar with. The DVDs arrived in a thin package with a postage-paid return sleeve inside, and Netflix covered all postage costs.

The rest, as they say, is history. This formula proved a hit, and Netflix steadily added subscribers. Within five years of launch, Netflix was shipping millions of DVDs daily, and it quickly became one of the best places to rent movies online .

Key Netflix Milestones

As you can see, Netflix didn't become one of the best streaming services in the world instantly; it took the company a lot of time and effort before it became what it is today. Here are a few milestones that made Netflix the streaming giant we know and love.

August 29, 1997 : Netflix is registered in Scotts Valley, California. The service is called Kibble in beta testing, a kind of dog food to remind the team of the old advertising adage that "It doesn't matter how good your dog food advertising campaign is if the dogs won't eat the dog food."

April 14, 1998 : The website launches as Netflix at 9 am. The video library has approximately 900 titles. Marc orders the movie Casino as a test, and it works. Within 15 minutes, the website crashes as other orders start coming in, forcing them to run to the store to buy more servers. At the end of the first day, they booked 137 orders.

1999 : A total of 239,000 subscribers sign up. Netflix's video library expands to 3,100 titles. After a meeting between Marc and Sony goes bad and growth becomes sluggish, Reed demotes Marc to President and takes over as CEO.

2000 : Reed Hastings approaches former Blockbuster CEO John Antioco and asks him to buy Netflix for $50 million. During the meeting, John turns him down and laughs at Reed and the Netflix team.

2001 : Netflix hits one million subscribers and continues to grow.

2002 : Netflix goes public in May. The IPO raises $82.1 million and values Netflix at $309.7 million. Reed has 500,000 shares, and Marc has 166,000 shares.

Netflix opens regional warehouses, bringing overnight delivery in response to subscriber complaints that it took too long to get their DVDs.

2003 : Marc Randolph leaves Netflix and sells his shares.

2006 : Netflix finally becomes profitable, generating more than $80 million. Subscribers rise to 6.3 million.

2007 : Netflix begins streaming content, delivering directly to TVs, computers, and tablets through its Watch Now service. The first trial is in Canada. The service launches with 1,000 titles and is included free in Netflix's $5.99 per month physical DVD subscription tier.

2010 : Netflix changes its focus to streaming and introduces it to the United States. Reed tells investors, "three years ago, we were a DVD by-mail company that offered some streaming. We are now a streaming company which also offers DVD by mail."

Blockbuster files for bankruptcy.

2011 : Netflix splits its streaming business and its DVD rental business into two distinct subscription packages: Netflix for streaming and Qwikster for DVD rentals. Reed reverses the unpopular decision in less than a month after 800,000 subscribers abandon Netflix.

2012 : Netflix starts making original shows. Its first show is Lilyhammer, followed by House of Cards in 2013. Since then, it has produced over 1,900 originals (becoming one of the best streaming services for original content ), many of which, like Squid Game and The Crown, have gone on to be tremendously popular and won many awards.

2013 : Netflix introduces user profiles and rolls this feature out to all Netflix subscribers in August.

2015 : Netflix is present in 50 countries.

2016 : Netflix goes live in 130 countries simultaneously and adds local languages to its user interface, subtitles, and dubbing.

2017 : Netflix officially hits 100 million subscribers worldwide.

2021 : Netflix hits 209 million subscribers in over 190 countries. Notable exceptions are North Korea, Syria, China, and Iran. It has more than 15,000 titles across all its international libraries and earns over $25 billion in annual revenues. The company introduces mobile games, allowing users to play games on Netflix .

2022 : Netflix loses 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter , the first time in over ten years.

Because of this massive loss, the company starts to think of different ways to gain more subscribers. For example, Netflix starts to crack down on password sharing and introduces its first ad-supported tier called Basic with Ads , which offers almost content at a lower price in exchange for sitting through ads every hour.

The Future of Netflix

According to Dorothy Ghettuba, the head of African Programming, it is no longer necessary to go to Hollywood. With Netflix, one can be a superstar in their backyard and export their content to the world.

Over the years, Netflix has gained competitors, including Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, and HBO Max. These competitors invest heavily in different ways to entertain their audiences. To stay ahead of the pack, Netflix may have to embrace new emerging technologies and try to keep its content fresh.
