Breaking news, cameron robbins’ friends tried to stop him from jumping off party boat and into ‘shark-infested’ ocean: parent.
Friends tried to intervene and stop missing teenager Cameron Robbins from jumping off a pirate-themed party boat and into the “shark-infested” ocean shortly before he disappeared in the Bahamas May 24.
A parent whose son was aboard the Blackbeard’s Revenge vessel told Fox News several students tried to stop Robbins before he plunged into the dark waters near the uninhabited Athol Island, just northwest of Bahamas capital Nassau.
“This was a booze cruise, and they were on their way back when this happened,” the parent told the network. “My son texted me when it happened, saying, ‘Cameron jumped off. They can’t find him.’ They were out there until 2, 3 in the morning.
“It was a terrible weather that night. The kids were cold, wet and traumatized. The girls were in bikinis and bathing suits. The guys were giving them their shirts. It was a bad time to bring drunk 18-year-olds out into waters near this island where there’s nothing.”
Haunting video footage shows Robbins swimming away from a rescue buoy as onlookers shout for him to grab the device.
Online viewers have speculated they could see flashes of shark-like sea creature in the video and Robbins was trying to get away from it.
A second later, he has disappeared under the surface.
The US Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force all searched the murky waters for the next two days.
They covered over 325 square miles with no success before calling off the search on May 26 as they had found no trace of Robbins.
In the video of the last moments Cameron is seen, someone can be heard yelling , “This kid f–king jumped off! Oh my f–king God! Oh, shut the f–k up! Oh, bye, bye!”
Brian Trascher, vice president of the nonprofit search-and-rescue group United Cajun Navy, told WBRZ: “Had they found a piece of clothing or any kind of clue, that would cause them to extend that 48-hour period, but if they don’t get any kind of indication, then that’s usually when they call it off,” Trascher siad.
Robbins and his friends joined graduates from other high schools on Blackbeard’s Revenge for a pleasure cruise that was supposed to travel around the uninhabited Athol Island.
A spokesperson for Blackbeard’s Revenge told The Post the boat’s crew “executed the ‘man overboard’ protocol in line with all approved safety procedures and company policies to ensure the best chance of retrieving an individual who has gone overboard.”
“Our deepest condolences to the Robbins family as they go through this difficult time,” the spokesperson added.
“Since the incident, the company has reviewed all safety measures and protocols and are confident that the company’s practices were and continue to be in line with the highest industry standards to keep its passengers safe.”
A memorial service for the popular teen will beheld on Sunday in Baton Rouge.

The parents of an 18-year-old high school graduate who fell overboard on a sunset cruise in the Bahamas have broken their silence.
Cameron Robbins went on a trip to the Bahamas to celebrate his graduation from the University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He and several friends were aboard the Blackbeard’s Revenge cruise on 24 May when Cameron allegedly jumped off the boat on a dare.
The US Coast Guard and Royal Bahamas Defence Force spent several days searching for Cameron before suspending their efforts on 27 May. Following his presumed death, a memorial was planned for the teenager on Sunday (4 June).
Speaking from their home ahead of the service, Cameron’s parents William and Shari Robbins, both 54, told The New York Post they were aware of the impact their “funny and kind-hearted” son had made on people following updates of the tragic incident believed to have cut his life short.
“We are just mourning our son right now,” Ms Robbins told the Post . “We appreciate you calling. Maybe we will be able to talk more later.”
“We appreciate everyone’s support,” Mr Robbins also said.
The University Lab School Director Kevin George told WAFB that Cameron had attended the school for 13 years. The teen also played baseball for the school, which operates as part of Louisiana State University.
“Words fall short of expressing the worry our entire school community is feeling. Extra counselors will be available on campus to speak with students and faculty who are struggling to process this news. Our thoughts are with the Robbins family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts as well,” Mr George wrote.
The graduation trip was not organised by the school.
According to his obituary, Cameron was not only an accomplished athlete but also loved country music and was a “big star” in karaoke.
“He was a tough player, battling back from multiple injuries, known to pitch through separated shoulders and broken hands. He hoped to continue his baseball career at the college level,” the tribute read. “...Though he left this world far too soon, he lived a life full of good friends and family.”
In a statement provided to The Independent, Jonathan Chia, a representative for Pirates’ Revenge Ltd, the parent company of Blackbeard’s Revenge, said Cameron went overboard at approximately 9.40pm local time in Montagu Bay off Athol Island in the Bahamas.
Video captured in the moments after Cameron jumped into the water showed the 18-year-old swimming around the vessel as passengers on the sunset cruise yelled at him. In the footage, individuals can be heard urging Cameron to grab onto the buoy that they threw into the water for him.
“The crew executed the ‘man overboard’ protocol in line with all approved safety procedures and company policies to ensure the best chance of retrieving an individual who has gone overboard,” Mr Chia said.
After Coast Guard crews searched more than 325 square miles, they concluded their efforts with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on 27 May. Although searches have ended, the US Coast Guard is asking anyone with new information to contact the District Seven watchstanders at 305-415-6800.
A GoFundMe has been started to benefit Cameron’s family as they deal with the aftermath of the difficult situation.
Meanwhile, online speculation has swirled over whether Cameron was attacked by a shark in the water.

Parents of Cameron Robbins break silence after US teenager jumped off Bahamas cruise ship into shark-infested waters
The grieving parents of Cameron Robbins have broken their silence after the 18-year-old jumped off a booze cruise ship into shark-infested waters and vanished.
Cameron Robbins’ parents said they “appreciate” the outpouring of support for their missing son Saturday, the day before a memorial for the 18-year-old who was tragically lost at sea in “shark-infested” waters late last month.
William and Shari Robbins, both 54, have been inundated with calls since Cameron jumped off a pirate-themed booze cruise ship in the Bahamas on a dare on May 24, they told The Post from their home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
But the couple were sweet and cordial talking about their son, a recent high school graduate and popular baseball star described as both “funny and kind-hearted” and “intense and driven.”
“We are just mourning our son right now,” Shari Robbins told The Post. “We appreciate you calling. Maybe we will be able to talk more later.”
William Robbins added, “We appreciate everyone’s support.”
The family wrote a lovingly detailed obituary for Cameron, whom they adopted shortly after his birth in Abilene, Texas.
“Cameron Crossley Robbins was a beloved grandson, son, brother and friend. He was lost at sea after being reported missing off the coast of Athol Island in the Bahamas on the evening of May 24,” they wrote.
Robbins played sports starting at the pre-school level, and “eventually chose baseball as his first love” and was a three-year varsity letterman in high school.
“He was a tough player, battling back from multiple injuries, known to pitch through separated shoulders and broken hands,” the obituary states.
Robbins also “loved his truck and country music” and was “a big star” in the shower and with karaoke machines. The teen also frequently did late-night raids in their pantry, “where he consumed large quantities of Fruity Pebbles and popcorn.”
A memorial service for the teen has been scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and sister, Cole and Cassie, and two grandmothers who he was very close to — as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be sent to the Christian Homes & Family Services in Abilene.
Robbins, who had graduated May 21 from University Lab School in Baton Rouge, apparently jumped overboard on a dare from Blackbeard’s Revenge, a pirate ship-style vessel.
He had just returned from a weekend fishing trip on the Louisiana Gulf Coast with his father and brother before he left for the ill-fated graduation celebration with his friends in the Bahamas.
Robbins was last seen late May 24 in the waters off Athol Island.
Haunting video footage shows the teen swimming away from a rescue buoy as onlookers shout for him to grab the device.
Online viewers have speculated they could see flashes of shark-like sea creatures, including a “fin,” in the video and Robbins was trying to get away from it.
In the video of the last moments Robbins is seen, someone can be heard yelling, “This kid f–king jumped off! Oh my f–king God! Oh, shut the f–k up! Oh, bye, bye!”
A second later, he disappeared under the surface.
The US Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force all searched the murky waters for the next two days.

Cameron Robbins: Friends Tried to Stop Teen from Jumping off ‘Booze Cruise’ Into Shark-Infested Waters
Friends of a Louisiana teen who jumped off a cruise ship in shark-infested waters last week say they tried to stop him, Fox News reports .
On May 24, Cameron Robbins was with several hundred fellow high school graduates on a Blackbeard’s Revenge sunset cruise in the Bahamas when he decided to leap overboard, allegedly on a dare.
A parent whose son was on the vessel told the news outlet that multiple students attempted to restrain Robbins, 18, but that he broke free and made the plunge around 9:30 p.m.
Authorities believe that Robbins went into the water near Athol Island, which is northeast of Nassau.
Search and rescue crews from the U.S. Coast Guard, Royal Bahamas Defence Force, and United Cajun Navy scoured the area for hours but stopped around 3 a.m. the following morning.
“This was a booze cruise, and they were on their way back when this happened,” the parent told Fox News. “My son texted me when it happened, saying, ‘Cameron jumped off. They can’t find him.’ They were out there until 2, 3 in the morning.
“It was terrible weather that night. The kids were cold, wet and traumatized. The girls were in bikinis and bathing suits. The guys were giving them their shirts. It was a bad time to bring drunk 18-year-olds out into waters near this island where there’s nothing.”
Tiger sharks, bull sharks, and dolphins are known to inhabit the waters in the region.
As CrimeOnline reported previously, the now-viral video appears to show Robbins in the water after the jump.
Robbins has been officially designated as “lost at sea.” A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, according to WAFB-TV .

The mystery deepens into what really took the life of the high school graduate who disappeared after jumping off a tourist boat, reportedly on a dare.
Cameron Robbins, 18, was celebrating with classmates on a pirate-themed party boat in the Bahamas when he jumped into shark-infested waters.
A life preserver was tossed in the water, but he swam away from it and then vanished.
There was speculation that this shadowy image might have been a shark since the area is known for tiger sharks and other aggressive species that attack humans.
However, experts are weighing in and saying that they don't believe a shark ended the high school senior's life.
Some are now speculating that there were other factors that could have caused Cameron's death.
Brian Trascher assisted in the search for Cameron as part of United Cajun Navy, a local volunteer group that assists in search and rescue efforts.
"We didn't think it was a shark because there was no sign of distress," Trascher tells Inside Edition. "Whatever it is that seems to come near him didn't kill, didn't lunge."
Cameron was a high school baseball star in Baton Rouge, Louisiana , and incredibly fit.
So if it was not a shark, what could have stopped him from reaching the life preserver that was thrown to him by passengers on the boat?
"It could have been that he was taken away by a current. There was some inclement weather hit while they were out there," a spokesperson for the United Cajun Navy tells Inside Edition.
Swim safety expert Jim Spears offers up another possible explanation.
"When he jumped into the water, he could have hit his head on the boat," Spears says. "He could have hit his head on the water, like slapping the water with his head. Either way could cause dizziness, a concussion or confusion."
Wednesday marks two weeks since the college-bound Cameron disappeared into the dark waters.
Despite the fact Cameron jumped because of a dare, a group of his fellow students say they did try to physically prevent him from jumping off the ship, but were unable to stop him.

The family of Cameron Robbins remembers the Baton Rouge, Louisiana high school graduate as an intense, driven, funny, and kind-hearted son. But on the internet, the loss of the 18-year-old — after he jumped off of a cruise ship on an apparent dare — has gone from tragic accident to ripe content mine, the latest example of a tragedy going through the true-crime machine on TikTok .
It’s been 12 days since Robbins was last seen. Units from the U.S. Coast Guard, The United Cajun Navy (a volunteer emergency rescue service), and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force all searched for Robbins but were unsuccessful. On May 27, after searching over 325 square miles of water, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force called off the search and listed Robbins as lost at sea, which declared him legally deceased. “We want to thank the Bahamas government, the U.S. Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us,” the Robbins family said in a statement to WAFB. “In this time of grief, we thank our family, friends and well wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss.”

“None of the experts consulted can definitely say what’s in the video due to the quality and length of the video,” Cajun Navy spokesperson Brian Trascher said. “The Robbins family has requested that we not entertain that theory any longer, so our official position is that we don’t know what happened while Cam was in the water.”

Chilling two words to boat passenger before teen vanished into shark-infested waters
Louisiana high school graduate cameron robbins, 18, was last seen swimming in the dark bahamian water after jumping off a party boat in may this year - never to be seen again.
- 08:00, 2 Oct 2023
- Updated 14:18, 2 Oct 2023
Louisiana high school graduate Cameron Robbins' last moments were captured in a shaky phone video showing the 18-year-old swimming into the dark Bahamian waters, with an ominous white figure lurking underneath before he disappeared from view - and was never seen again.
The high school baseball star had leapt off the party boat, called Blackbeard’s Revenge, on May 24, just off the uninhabited Athol Island during a graduation trip. The video of his final moments was shared online and sparked widespread fears that Cameron had been possibly killed by a shark in the infested waters below.
A hunt to find the popular teen was launched but within two days, rescuers were forced to call it off with no sign of Cameron anywhere to be found. The teen had only arrived on his graduation holiday to the Caribbean hotspot Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau a few hours before tragedy unfolded aboard the pirate-themed sunset boat excursion.
Perhaps one of the most chilling moments from the video are just two words shouted from a bystander to Cameron, seconds after he had jumped into the shark-infested waters. Among the screams from the boat following his jump, one man can be heard shouting 'This kid f***ing jumped off! Oh my f***ing God! Oh, shut the f*** up!" His final ominous words are: "Oh, bye, bye!"
Another person is heard shouting at Cameron to "grab the buoy" which was in the water, but Cameron was last seen swimming away from the life preserver. For two days, the expansive search for Cameron saw officials plot and scour a 325-square-mile area of the Caribbean Sea with no luck.
Ending the search after two days, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Commodore Raymond King confirmed that the area is populated by a worryingly high number of sharks. He said: "I can tell you that area where an individual reportedly jumped over, it's an area that is really shark-infested as well." While he added that he didn’t want the family to lose hope, he admitted: "The probability of survival decreases significantly particularly if a person did not have on a life vest and particularly if a person is perceived to be intoxicated."
The teenager's family travelled to the Bahamas following the end of the search to try and retrace his final moments. Speaking to WBRZ, United Cajun Navy Vice President Brian Trascher said: "It took a lot of strength for them to go out there and stay for a few days. When we offered to take them out in a boat to the area where he went overboard and some of the area they were searching they went.
"I know had to be very emotional for them, but they went and by Sunday they decided they wanted to go home. Had they found a piece of clothing or any kind of clue, that would cause them to extend that 48-hour period, but if they don't get any kind of indication then that's usually when they call it off."
The family paid tribute to the "beloved grandson, son, brother and friend" online, who had recently graduated from the University Lab School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Explaining that Cameron had been adopted shortly after birth, he became a prolific athlete across every activity he could find and numerous church leagues. They said: "He eventually chose baseball as his first love. [...] He was a tough player, battling back from multiple injuries, known to pitch through separated shoulders and broken hands. He hoped to continue his baseball career at the college level."
Going on to describe Cameron’s other hobbies, including a love of food, they added: "Though he left this world far too soon, he lived a life full of good friends and family. He was funny and kind-hearted, but also intense and driven. He doted on his grandparents and he took pride in his work. He will be missed desperately by his family and friends, who will carry their cherished memories of him to eternity."
Following the shocking incident, more details about the boat trip emerged, with the mother of one of his friends telling Fox News that several people had tried to grab him before he jumped. She said: "This was a booze cruise, and they were on their way back when this happened. My son texted me when it happened, saying, ‘Cameron jumped off. They can’t find him.'
"They were out there until 2, 3 in the morning. It was terrible weather that night. The kids were cold, wet and traumatised. The girls were in bikinis and bathing suits. The guys were giving them their shirts. It was a bad time to bring drunk 18-year-olds out into waters near this island where there's nothing."
A shark expert later told The Mirror that it was possible that Cameron may have encountered a shark, based on the footage. Kevin McMurray, who runs a website which collects information on shark attacks, said: "What I think happened is, he got in the water and he was swimming around, the shark, for some reason, or whatever it is - I'm not for sure saying it is a shark, but it looks a lot like a shark - essentially it comes and surfaces and there's a life ring out to his right."
Regarding Cameron's fate, McMurray said that if a shark attack did occur, it would likely involve a single bite, and Cameron may have died from exposure or sank. While there could be remains of his body, the expert said recovering them would be extremely challenging due to the large search area and currents.
He stated: "Recovering [Cameron's remains] would be nearly impossible. Something like that, you're talking about a massive search area with currents and all that."
