Golf at Trump International Golf Links Ireland, tee time 1pm. Recommend dinner at the Clubhouse or at Morrissey’s Bar/Restaurant in Doonbeg village.

Trump International Golf Links offers views of the Atlantic from 16 of 18 holes, the newly redesigned golf course is a stunning sight to behold. The average time taken for a round of golf is four hours and thirty minutes. Designed with the philosophy of ‘least disturbance’, the most natural route was taken in laying the course out through the sand dunes. As a result, the golf course in Ireland has an unusual combination of five par 3s and five par 5s. The speed and direction of the wind cause consistent daily variations in play.

Overnight at Trump International Golf Links Ireland

After breakfast check out of TIGL and set off for Lahinch Golf Club, host venue for The 2019 Irish Open and annual host for The South of Ireland Amateur Championship. Golf at Lahinch Old Course. Lahinch Golf Club is a world-renowned links golf course in the village of Lahinch on the northwest coast of County Clare. Lahinch’s Old Course has benefited both from the natural characteristics of the terrain and from the genius of distinguished course architects. Founded in 1892 by officials of Limerick Golf Club Alexander W. Shaw and Richard J. Plummer, they laid out an 18-hole course, which has often been described as the “St. Andrew’s” of Ireland.

Recommend dinner at Clubhouse in Lahinch or at the Armada Hotel Bar, Johnny Burke’s!

Overnight at Spanish Point House.

Spanish Point House exterior

Following breakfast, check out of Spanish Point House and make your way to Adare Manor. Non-Golf activities as follows – Falconry at 9am, Clay Pigeon Shooting at 10am. Golf at Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort, tee time 2pm.

The Golf Course at Adare Manor is ready to take its place among the best championship courses in the world. Masterfully designed, magnificently maintained and perfectly set within the glorious estate of one of Europe’s most spectacular manor house hotels. Celebrated golf architect, Tom Fazio, has taken what was already an award-winning course and transformed it into a parkland paradise befitting a country in the top tier of global golfing destinations. The new course has been created in harmony with the outstanding natural beauty of its surroundings: lush, softly rolling terrain, mature tree scaping and the sweeping banks of the River Maigue.

Adare Manor Golf logo

Dining Experience at Adare Manor, 8pm. After Golf drinks in the Tack Room or at Pat Collins Bar in Adare Village.

Overnight at Adare Manor.

Adare Manor Lavender Cottage

Following an early breakfast, check out of Adare Manor and make your way to Ballybunion. Today will you play both The Old Course & Cashen Course!

Ballybunion Golf Club has a secluded location on the southwest coast of Ireland. Both courses – The Old Course & Cashen Course – are situated right along the shoreline, providing sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. In 2015, Golfing Magazine voted The Old Course at Ballybunion the No 1 links course in Ireland and recently was rated No 20 in the World!

Ballybunion Golf logo

Recommend lunch at Ballybunion Golf Clubhouse and Dinner at the Cliff House Hotel

Overnight at the Cliff House Hotel, Ballybunion.

Cliff House Hotel bedroom

Today we take to the ring of Kerry and Dooks Golf Links.

Dooks Golf Club is set on the coast of the Iveragh Peninsula, looking out on Dingle Bay, with a backdrop of the Sliabh Mish mountains. Golf has been played here since 1889, making it on of the oldest links courses in Ireland.

Ballybunion Golf logo

Overnight at Brook Lodge, Killarney.

Brook Lodge bedroom

Following breakfast make your way to wonderful Waterville. Golf at Waterville Golf Links.

Waterville Golf Links is a championship links rated 10th in Golf World “ Top 100 in Britain and Ireland ”. It is the #1 course in the Republic of Ireland whose membership includes, among players, Tiger Woods and Mark O’ Meara. Waterville hosted the 2014 Irish Seniors Amateur and, as in the years past, it is the favorite links for US Tour players before the British Open.

Waterville Golf Links logo

Grab a quick snack (and a pint!) after golf before heading back to Killarney. Dinner is arranged at the Danny Mann in Killarney.

After breakfast check out of Brook Lodge and head for Tralee. Golf at Tralee Golf Links.

Tralee Golf Club is the only course in Ireland, and the only links course, designed by Arnold Palmer, this stunning setting represents a true paradise for those willing to challenge what is widely acclaimed as one of the finest links courses in the world. “Arnie” has been know to say “I designed the front 9 but surely God designed the back 9”!!

Tralee Golf Club logo

We will be making our way to Belmullet and the Broadhaven Bay Hotel next, recommend stopping for dinner at Moran’s on the Weir en route to County Mayo! We are also invited to Galway Bay Golf Resort for dinner as well so we have some choices for dinner.

Overnight at Broadhaven Bay Hotel, Belmullet.

Morans Oyster Cottage

After breakfast check out of the Broadhaven Bay Hotel and head for Carne Golf Links. Golf at Carne Golf Links.

Carne Golf Links in North Mayo on the West Coast of Ireland lies in magnificent unspoiled sand dunes overlooking Blacksod Bay and the wild Atlantic Ocean near the town of Belmullet. This Belmullet beauty was the last links course to be designed by the late Eddie Hackett and it is now believed by many who have played it to be his greatest design. There are 27 holes of sheer delight at Carne, make sure to experience all of them when you make the trip up to Mayo!

Carne Golf Club logo

Grab something at Mulranny if possible, recommend dinner at our hotel – the Great National Hotel Ballina.

Overnight at the Great National Hotel, Ballina.

Grand Hotel Ballina bedroom

After an early breakfast head for Co Sligo Golf Club, venue for the West of Ireland Amateur Championship. Golf at Co Sligo Golf Club.

This world famous golf course in Rosses Point  offers an excellent challenge. The traditional links layout, designed by Harry Colt, utilizes the natural contours of the dune-covered landscape rather than moving large amounts of earth during its design. Co Sligo Golf Club is the annual host of The West of Ireland Amateur Championship and present a classic challenge to golfers of all abilities.

County Sligo Golf Club logo

Grab a quick snack after golf, our Final Round of the No Laying Up Tour in Ireland will take place at Enniscrone Golf Links!

Enjoy dinner at the Enniscrone Clubhouse after golf, for those able we would recommend a few farewell drinks at the Auld Shebeen in Ballina.

County Sligo Golf Club logo

After breakfast check out of the Great National Hotel Ballina and head for Shannon Airport and your return flights home, hopefully with great memories, new friends and not too many lost balls!

Episode 8: Carne Golf Links

n Tourist Sauce Season 4, the No Laying Up crew takes their average golf game across the pond to experience the dunes, wind, and 'craic' on the West Coast of Ireland. They are joined by Author Tom Coyne, the authority on Irish Golf.

  • Published 11/19/2019

It's a tough place to get to but man is it worth it. Carne Golf Links was one of our favorite stops on the trip. A rugged, brawny links on the Mullet Peninsula, this Eddie Hackett design is one of Tom Coyne's favorites in the entire world.

How did No Laying Up’s Tourist Sauce begin? The man behind the camera remembers

  • Follow on Twitter
  • Follow on Instagram

No Laying Up's latest video series have eclipsed the originals in length, depth and visual quality.

No Laying Up/YouTube

In the beginning, D.J. Piehowski remembers, there were just a lot of ideas.

“And I think we also had a lot of naïveté about what it would take to bring those things into the world, so we were willing to bite off a lot,” he says. “Our reach definitely extended out grasp on a lot of things, but, y’know, we grabbed hold of some stuff.”

That’s a typical undersell from the director-producer-editor-shooter at No Laying Up , a golf content company that began as a Twitter account and now includes a podcast network and a handful of video series with a fiercely loyal following. Its five founders — Piehowski, “Soly,” “Neil,” “Tron,” and “Big Randy” —  juggle responsibilities, with Soly captaining podcasts, Neil and Tron tackling merch, Big Randy on the financials and all of the above producing, shooting and starring in their videos. But from the beginning the man most often behind the camera has been Piehowski himself.

He joined us last week on the Drop Zone podcast to talk about the latest season of Tourist Sauce, an ambitious travel series that now boasts 40-minute episodes, character deep dives, epic visuals and (frequently) more than 100,000 YouTube viewers.

(Note: We also had him on largely to dissect the comparisons between HBO’s Succession and the current PGA Tour, which was a ton of fun. So there’s that, too…)

Piehowski’s background included a stint at Golfweek and then a half-decade at the PGA Tour, where he cut his teeth in a variety of video roles that included producing, editing and shooting. He yearned to combine those skills with his journalism degree and to bring some life to the world of golf that he and his friends knew and loved.

“There was incredibly high-end stuff that Golf Channel was doing at the time and outside of that, there wasn’t really that much on YouTube,” he says. “We thought from a half-buddies trip, half-‘whoa, look around, this is crazy!’ perspective, we thought we could get our arms around that.”

He remembers the goal — and the opportunity — presented by Tourist Sauce, Season 1, which was set in Australia.

“We had no sponsor, we had really no prospects at the time. We were kinda like, ‘I think if we do this, maybe we can get a car from BMW,’ who we were working with at the time. Maybe we can sell them on the fact that they should sponsor this thing after the fact. We’ll shoot it as if they did sponsor it, hopefully they do and it kinda just went from there. So we kinda just figured it out as we went, which obviously had tremendous benefits and tremendous negatives.”

Piehowski remembers the promise of capturing on video what he describes as “an insanely visual sport.” He remembers the joy of hearing from editor Matt Golden, who said his specialty was “taking a big barrel of discombobulated footage and weaving it into a story.

“I was like, ‘Ohh, buddy, do I have a job for you,'” Piehowski says.

And he remembers those early days, struggling to figure out composition and just about everything else, too, “handicapped by the fact that we’re idiots who don’t know what we’re doing,” but confident in the big-picture idea that these trips would be the sort of aspirational-yet-relatable stories people would watch.

For more from Piehowski, including exhaustive Succession/PGA Tour comparisons, listen to the podcast on Spotify , on Apple Podcasts or wherever you find podcasts. You can also check out a trimmed-down video version below. And of course No Laying Up’s Tourist Sauce is available on their YouTube channel here .

For all you you tube golf watchers. The NLU guys are doing another round of tourist sauce videos, this time in SW Ireland. The first video is up now. I really enjoyed their Scotland trip videos and this time they're visiting all the courses you suspect..... Doonbeg, Lahinch, Ballybunion etc etc. Not sure if they're paying the 230 Euro fees tho 😂

I like these guys. They "get" golf, and they get old school links golf in particular.

Really enjoyed the first episode, they clearly didn't rate the course, but still managed to make it entertaining and pull out some interesting stories. Find it baffling they only have 33k subs on Youtube, they're putting out consistently the best golf content on the platform and still struggling to pull views. Love their stuff. Click to expand...

Anyone think those updated handicap indexes are a bit suspect? Lol

Soly's is definitely legit, he's shot some properly low scores since his lessons with Gankas (but is back up to 0.0), not sure about the others, Tron a 2 seems a little low but his scores are online to look at: https://ghin.com/lookup.aspx - Florida > Todd Schuster

I thoroughly enjoy the NLU stuff, just a bit of fun rather than the guys who just do the same sort of thing as one another. Tourist Sauce and Strapped are always worth a watch IMO.

I'm going to check out these guys later when i'm at home. My personal opinion on golf youtubers (don't expect anyone to agree with me) is that Golf Vlogs UK is the best. It has some good tips on it but is also very funny. They're mid handicappers and they play some good stuff but also the occasional duff. Makes it more real imo. They're not pros but if I wanted to watch pros I would put Sky Sports Golf on rather than watch Finch/Shields/Ryan etc.

howbow88 said: I find like a lot of youtubers who build up a bit of a following, there are just too many in-jokes and they're not actually that funny. Mark Crossfield is the worst for this. Click to expand...

I will have to give this a go. I only watch vlogs now that are more aimed at entertainment. Used to watch reviews but they all of the reviewers seem to follow a pattern. They start with good, solid opinions, then they start getting invited on company press junkets, then they get sponsored and the unfavourable opinions seem to disappear. That is when I stop watching.

I watched the first 15 minutes or so. Its probably me but I don't really see what the point is of this being made available to the public? It seems to be a bit of a video diary of 'me & my mates on golfing hols' No problem with it, prob a good idea. But like most holiday vids/pics its probably best viewed by their friends and family. What makes them think the rest of the world are interested... and if the intended audience is supposed to be the golfing world then the diary style content doesn't really work very well. Just like the quintessential inane twitter/instagram/facebook comments... they're literally telling you what they had for breakfast!
