• According to the liner notes of Journey's Time3 compilation, guitarist Neal Schon wrote the chorus lyrics. Said Schon: "(keyboard player) Gregg Rolie was doing Bing Crosby - you know, 'ooh, ooh.' And I'd listened to lots of Beatles records when I was a kid, so I just went 'Anytime that you want me.' It came out real easy in rehearsal." Rolie supplied the lead vocals, and the song was released as the second single from Infinity .
• The band wrote this song before Steve Perry joined; it's credited to Robert Fleischman, Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Roger Silver and Ross Valory. Fleischman was with the band just a short time, and did not perform on any of their albums. Roger Silver is a San Francisco-based poet who contributed lyrics to the song.
• This song reached just #83 in the US, but was proof of what Steve Perry could bring to the band. Journey released three albums before he arrived, none of which produced a chart hit. The first Infinity single, " Wheel In The Sky ," rose to #57. Perry didn't write that one either, but it was clear he could deliver a distinct vocal that popped on the airwaves. The next single after "Anytime" was " Lights ," which Perry co-wrote. That one went to #68 and became a Journey classic.

• Kaye from Alabama Most of the the lead singers for Journey since and including Steve Perry, have 'blown out' their voices. There's very few men, and women that can continue to sing with such a wide range for 300+ gigs a year, practice, warm ups, and recording. Freddie Mercury, if he were still with us ( but, his range had a lot to do with cultural, and religious exposure), and Micky Thomas best known for Jefferson Starship, now just Starship, and his first hit, Fooled Around and Fell in love, still has the range and power he had in the '70 when he was playing with my husband in local bands in N. Florida, S. Georgia. To name 2. Pat Benetar, classically trained, Ann Wilson, classically trained. Now, look up Tommy Shaw's version of 'Open Arms' That is on a copulation tribute album. You might just be impressed. Digging ditches is damn hard dirty work. Going on stage, whether you feel like it or not, cold, flu, stomach virus, migraine headache, strep throat, And performing like you feel absolutely wonderful and so very happy to be there, when you would rather be lying on the stage trying not to die, is the hardest job in the world. I work as a gardener, landscaping, basically ditch digging, and I am no where near exhausted, sick, and basically insane as I was when touring and singing with several well known bands and performers. I was a trained lyric soprano that learned to sing rock and some pop and country. Now my range is quite a bit lower than it was.
• Jim from Long Beach, Ca Gregg Rolie, The American Paul Carrack, he sings on hits for other bands(Journey/Santana) but remains faceless..Great voice and keyboard player..
• Dodge from Casper, Wy Gregg Rolie, though somehow not the most recognizable face of the two bands, founded and was the original singer for both supergroups Santana and Journey. He is the co-lead vocalist here, though he is the clear and recognizable singer on the timeless Santana smash Black Magic Woman.

Journey's Freedom: a succession of songs that are the stuff of legend

The first journey album in more than a decade ticks all the right boxes – eventually.

Initial signs are not good. Journey ’s comeback album – their first for 11 years, since 2011’s Eclipse – comprises 15 tracks with a collective running time of more than an hour; that’s enough to test the patience of even the most browbeaten melodic-rock miserablist. 

One’s initial reaction is that some judicious trimming should surely have been done. On the opening few tracks the band appear to be weighed down by their heritage, content to plough an uninspiring, not-quite-as-good-as- Don’t-Stop-Believin’ , balladic furrow. 

But then things change – unequivocally for the better. Neal Schon has long raged against Journey’s perceived wimpiness, and when his steely six-string finally cuts loose on You Got The Best Of Me – a kinda punky version of Any Way You Want It (from 1980’s Departure ) – there’s no holding him, the band or the album back.

Journey have never rocked harder than on the raucous Come Away With Me (although Life Rolls On comes mighty close); the giant-sounding Let It Rain channels both ZZ Top and UFO ; towards the end of Holdin’ On , keyboard player Jonathan Cain goes stir crazy. Then there’s the spine-chilling United We Stand , with its prime-time, tear-muddied couplet: ‘ Love conquers all, even when darkness comes to call .’ Don’t it just. Because let us not forget: the hardest part of the night is the night. 

So, yeah, forget about Freedom’s stumblesome beginning, and bid welcome to the stuff of legend: a succession of songs as peerless as the House Of Lords at chucking-out time. Props are due to singer Arnel Pineda, who has long banished the ghost of Steve Perry , together with returning bassist Randy Jackson and drummer Narada Michael ‘ I Shoulda Loved Ya ’ Walden. The rhythmists get to strut their funky stuff one time only, on the Hall & Oates-esque Still Believe In Love , otherwise it’s bish-bash business as usual.

Elsewhere, former (and now back in the line-up) Journey drummer Deen Castronovo crops up on vocals on the album’s most anomalous track, After Glow : sparse, ethereal, almost Enya-like. We conclude with seven-minute epic Beautiful As You Are , which begins in twee, tremulous fashion and then unexpectedly detonates, like a rogue UXB (the description ‘Journey play The Who ’s Won’t Get Fooled Again ’ comes remarkably close). 

Ultimately, Freedom passes the Classic Rock AOR test with flying colours. Does it fly like an eagle, or does it pootle like a penguin? Emphatically the former. Rumours of Journey’s demise have been exaggerated. Don’t start bereavin’.

Prices, reservations & payment.

In order to keep our rates as low and competitive as possible, we do not build a ‘currency fluctuation allowance’ into our tour fees. However as currencies and fuel costs do change constantly around the world, it may be necessary for us to increase tour fees at any time before departure, providing there are exceptional cost increases beyond our control. To reserve your place on a journey, we require a deposit of US$1,000 per person, payable by personal check, VISA, AMEX or MasterCard. Checks should be made payable to ‘K. Benn Travel’. The balance of your payment is due 90 days prior to departure. To secure your reservation you must complete in full and return to our office, a Reservation Form and the signed Risks, Retailer Responsibility and Acknowledgement of Risk and Release Form at the time of booking, in order to confirm that you have read and agreed to those terms. If you prefer single accommodations you will be requested to pay the Single Supplement.

CANCELLED JOURNEYS & REFUNDS

Oasis Inc. reserves the right to cancel any trip for any reason, at any time prior to departure. In such a case, refund of any payments received shall constitute full settlement. Oasis Inc. and K. Benn Travel are not responsible for additional expenses incurred by participants in preparation for the trip such as non-refundable, advance-purchase air tickets, medical expenses, passport fees etc.

Deposits and any payments are fully refundable if written notice is received by K. Benn Travel more than 91 days before the start of the journey less a US$200 per person administration fee. Cancellations received between 90 and 61 days before the first day of the journey will forfeit the deposit of US$1,000. Cancellations received within 60 days of the first day of the journey are subject to full forfeiture of all money paid. Exceptions to this cancellation policy cannot be made for any reason, including personal emergencies, illness, or weather. No refunds will be made for any part of the journey in which participants do not participate.

K. Benn Travel, Oasis’ exclusive administrative operator, will be happy to provide you with air reservations and tickets corresponding to your chosen journey. It is strongly encouraged to book early to ensure the desired routings and departure times.

We strongly recommend the purchase of supplementary medical and cancellation insurances. K. Benn Travel has negotiated a policy underwritten by RBC Insurance. The per person premiums are based on the length and cost of the journey, as well as the age of the participant so please phone us to calculate your personal premium. These insurance premiums are non-refundable and must be paid with the trip deposit or when final balance is due. Please review your personal coverage and confirm with your insurer that you are adequately covered for any eventuality.

By completing the Reservation Form and forwarding the deposit for passage, you certify that you do not have any physical or other conditions or disability that would impede or create a hazard for you or other travelers.

Our journeys entail risks beyond those encountered at home. Our goal is to effortlessly take care of all the details to ensure a great travel experience. In return, we count on our travelers to be in good physical shape, to read our pre-departure ‘Notes For Travelers’ outlining all the things you need to know before leaving home including clothing, medical requirements, culture-specific etiquette, and currency issues etc. It is important to appreciate that in many countries, local living standards and practices, services and accommodations may differ from those in North America and Europe – often in delightful and rewarding ways – and to understand the fact that a road less traveled means a more unpredictable and more rewarding adventure.
