Slow down and experience Mexican culture in the beachy town of Zihuatanejo

On the Pacific coast of Mexico in the state of Guerrero, there's a destination where colorful buildings cascade down the slopes of the Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains, along the curve of calm bays and white sandy beaches – a charming town called Zihuatanejo.

In the 1970s, Zihuatanejo – which translates to ‘place of women’ in Nahuatl – was a more low-key getaway than its nearby neighbor, Ixtapa, and attracted the likes of Andy Warhol, John Wayne, Liz Taylor and Mick Jagger. Today too, travelers tired of the crowded, resort-heavy destinations in the Yucatan and Baja Peninsula make their way to Zihuatanejo in search of something different – a place where they can easily delve into the culture, community and nature.

The beauty of Zihua, as most people call it, is found in the warm waters along its four beaches, in the restaurants in town and on the boardwalk. It’s in these places that tourists and locals mingle, because Zihua isn’t like other coastal Mexican destinations where the two are separated – here, they connect.

Best things to do in Zijuatanejo 

While resort culture abounds in many coastal Mexican cities, Zihuatanejo has maintained its individuality, and there are as many Mexican travelers here as locals and foreigners. 

Walk the boardwalk

The city’s boardwalk, Paseo del Pescador (Fishermen’s Passage), is the town gathering place: fishers bring their catch to sell in the morning, and people come to purchase – or at least marvel – over the day’s haul. 

On any given day you’ll see cyclists, photographers, people playing basketball and even dance classes in session. Be sure to stop for a break and have a cafecito on one of the patios, perhaps at Café Marina. 

Have pozole on a Thursday

If there is one thing you should keep in mind when booking a trip to Zihua, it’s Pozole Thursday. Every Thursday from 2pm to 5pm, people line up at the city’s pozolerias –  restaurants that serve bowls of green pozole, a type of soup with hominy and chicken. (Pozole is typically red; Guerrero is the only state in Mexico where it is green.)  La Casa Vieja  is one of the best pozolerias in town . Expect a line, so get there early. 

Hit the beach

Zihua’s warm waters don’t generally dip below 65°F, which makes swimming and relaxing on the beach just about perfect. 

There are four beaches here to explore. Playa Municipal  (also known as Playa Principal) and Playa Madera are located near the city center; Playa Municipal is where fishers moor their boats when they’re not out to sea, so Playa Madera is the better option of the two. Playa La Ropa is the largest and our personal favorite. However, if you’re feeling intrepid, take a boat ride to Las Gatas , a lovely white-sand beach without vegetation, situated on a shallow cove with clear blue waters that's lined with open-air restaurants serving fresh seafood and cervezas .

Sail the bay

A boating excursion is a great way to explore the Zihua coast. You can rent a sailboat to explore the bay, a party boat for you and your friends, a luxurious yacht or something more suited to an all-day sportfishing trip. 

Picante  is the best option for catamaran experiences, especially at sunset; it also offers whale-watching boat tours between December and March. To reel in marlin, mahimahi, tuna, wahoo and sailfish, book a fishing excursion with Gran Jefe II . Yates Ixtapa and Luxury Yacht Rentals  both have luxe boat rentals and customizable charters available. 

In February, don’t miss the city’s annual SailFest, a sailboat festival created to raise money for local education and children’s services. The deluge of white sails on the ocean is a sight to behold from the hotels, boardwalk, and beaches of Zihua. 

Explore under the sea

Scuba diving and snorkeling are two of the most popular activities in Zihuatanejo, thanks to a mix of shallow reefs, caverns, sunken ships and abundant biodiversity. The water is teeming with angelfish, crabs, starfish, stingrays, octopus, manta rays, sharks and seahorses. Sightings of sea turtles are likely year-round, but your chances are even higher between June and October. Whales migrate to the area between December and April, and seals make an appearance between August and October. 

Snorkeling is best experienced at Manzanillo Playa, Caleta del Chon, Zacotoso and Playa Coral on Ixtapa Island . You can even snorkel around the coral in the shallow clear bay at Playa Las Gatas. Equipment can be rented from various little shacks on the beach.  

Fans of scuba diving will discover that Zihua waters are warm, generally have good visibility and lack any type of currents, which is nice for beginners. The best time to dive is between November and May, and there are dozens of dive sites in the area, Morros de Potosi being an especially popular destination. Above water you’ll see granite rocky islets, but under the sea is a mesmerizing world of caverns, coral, valleys and depths of up to 100ft. 

Dive Zihua  and Adventure Divers Zihuatanejo stand out among outfitters and have great online reviews.

Take a surf class

Less than a 40-minute drive away, the nearby towns of Saladitas and Troncones are beloved surf spots. Swells are biggest from April to October, but you can still enjoy chest-high waves with great shapes from November to March. 

Troncones is better suited for seasoned surfers, though many seek out Saladitas to ride what may be the longest left wave in the country. 

If you’re a beginner or want to brush up on your skills, take a class in Saladitas with brothers and long-time local surfers Edgar and Leon of Catcha L’ola . They’ll guide you to part of the beach and ocean away from experienced surfers, so you can learn the ropes without any pressure. 

My favorite thing to do in Zihuatanejo is enjoying the seafood

To really get to know a culture and a community, you have to eat their food, and in Zihuatanejo, seafood reigns supreme. 

The city has always been a fishing village, and that didn’t change much when tourism began to develop in the 1970s. Each morning at sunrise, fishers return to Playa Principal, their small boats bearing big catches. At the Fishermen’s Market, they set out fish on sheets and in ice chests. Chefs and citizens arrive in the early hours to buy what they need to cook that day. 

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a restaurant in town that doesn’t sell seafood for an affordable price. And Zihua's diversity of seafood is phenomenal. Pacific sailfish weighing up to 175lbs and 400lb black and blue marlins aren’t unheard of, and yellowfin tuna, dorado, roosterfish, grouper, Spanish mackerel, wahoo, bonito and barracuda are all common to the area too.

If you go on a fishing excursion, ask your guide which restaurants will clean and serve up your catch. Otherwise, make sure to try some of the local seafood specialties like tiritas de pescado . Zihuans cut fish into small strips (traditionally sailfish or skipjack, though other types may be used), marinate it in lime juice and serve it on a cracker. Depending on where you go, it may also be dressed with onions, chilies, avocado, peppers or cilantro. 

Seafood may be the most dominant type of food in Zihua, but there are other regional specialties to try – like costillas de puerco , or pork ribs in a red sauce, at Carmelitas Café . 

Budget and costs in Zihuatanejo

Zihuatanejo isn’t just a beautiful destination, it’s affordable too. Whether it's coffee or beer, drinks are typically less than $2. You can enjoy fresh seafood meals for less than US$15 – and in fact, that’s on the high end. At the popular  Mariscos El Gabo , the average seafood entree is about $7.

It's also cheap to get around: taxi rides don't usually cost more than $5, and buses are only $0.50 to $1. The boat ride to Playa Las Gatas is less than $4.

The most expensive aspect of a trip to Zihuatanejo is going to be your hotel, but you should be able to find one that fits your budget. An entire vacation-rental unit in Zihua costs $29 to $190 per night, while hotels go for $100 to $200 per night. You can find some budget-friendly rooms for $50 per night, though the closer they are to the beach, the more expensive they seem to be.

Beachfront hotels in Zihua

Most people who travel to a coastal destination – especially in Mexico – want a beachfront hotel. The lure of the ocean and the white sandy beach is enough to spend a few extra bucks. And when you're scoping out Zihuatanejo on a map, it may seem like there are a number of properties right on the water. But because Zihua is set on the slope of a mountain, many hotels and restaurants that look beachfront on paper actually aren't – a staircase takes guests down to the beach.

Of the four beaches, Playa La Ropa is the only one with beachfront hotels – and it doesn't have many to choose from. The best by far is the Thompson Zihuatanejo . It has the service, design and amenities you expect of the brand and the perfect location on Playa La Ropa.

You can see the ocean from the resort’s pools and stylish suites, and enjoy the sand between your toes as you dine at its two restaurants, Ceniza and Hao. Plus, the Zihuantanejo baby turtle release – which happens as the sun sets over the ocean – occurs on the beach right in front of the hotel. Though it's a 25- to 35-minute walk from the city center, it’s well worth it to have direct access to this swimmable bay.

The best time to go to Zihuatanejo

Travelers to Zihuantanejo will enjoy temperatures in the 80°F range year-round, which is why many US travelers visit during the winter, and why the region’s high season is from October to June.

July to September is Zihua’s rainy season, September being the wettest month of the year (and April the driest). That said, rain tends to fall in the evenings or at night, so you can generally enjoy a lot of sun during the day. Just keep in mind that hotter temperatures and rainfall can create some humidity.

Because the weather is pretty consistent throughout the year, hotel prices don’t seem to change dramatically. However, like most places in Mexico, prices may increase around holidays and festivals, like SailFest in late February, International Guitar Festival in March, International Sports Fishing Contest in May and Zihua’s municipality anniversary, which falls during the winter holidays.

Getting around in Zihuatanejo

From Zihuatanejo International Airport, it’s a 15-minute drive to the city center. If you're planning to explore the surrounding areas, you could rent a car for a day or two, but otherwise it's quite easy to get around on foot.

Of course, some routes will be shorter than others, depending on where you stay. From Playa La Ropa, for example, it's a bit of a trek – the walk is hilly (remember, the city is on a mountain slope), but the views along the way are amazing.

If walking is not an option, don’t fret – taxis are plentiful. The city is not that large, so expect most rides to cost less than $4. A taxi from the airport to the city center is about $11, and Ixtapa is only a 15-minute drive away, so that trip should cost about the same. At night, there is a taxi surcharge, but it won’t put a dent in your pocket.

You can also take buses or microbuses from Zihuatanejo to the suburbs or Ixtapa. Bus tickets cost $0.50 to $1, making them the most inexpensive transportation option in Zihua.

Visiting Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo: The Complete Guide

Are you planning to visit the stunning place that is the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo ? Look no further! In this post, our friend Megan will tell us all about traveling to this mostly underrated Mexican beach destination, including what to do and practical tips.

Megan visited Ixtapa-Zihuatenjo a couple of years ago and spent five weeks in Zihuatanejo exploring the surrounding area and, naturally, she fell in love with the people, beaches, and food there.

She loved the laid-back lifestyle, the cheap delicious fish shacks, and spectacular scuba diving, among others and she’s going to share all about it in this post.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo was first brought to everyone’s attention by the famous Hollywood blockbuster Shawshank Redemption.

If you’ve seen the movie, you may remember the line, “ Zihuatanejo. It’s a little place in Mexico on the Pacific Ocean. Do you know what the Mexicans say about the Pacific? They say it has no memory. ”

Ixtapa-Zihuatanenjo is certainly worth daydreaming over and may also be the perfect escape. But there’s so much more to this region of Mexico.

Let’s talk about everything you need to know about Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo.

Where Is Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Located?

👉🏽 How Far Is Zihuantanejo From Ixtapa?

Zihuatanejo is approximately 6.5km (4 miles) from Ixtapa. These are two small fishing villages that share an airport and coastline.

You can easily travel between the two towns by car, bus, or taxi. It takes approximately 20 minutes to travel between the two villages.

What Is the Difference Between Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo?

Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo (often called Zihua) are two distinct towns on Mexico’s Pacific Coast.

While they are close to one another and have a lot in common, they also have completely different personalities.

Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa are known for their beautiful white sand beaches and friendly atmosphere. But that’s about where the similarities end.

Ixtapa is more of a luxurious resort destination, with a coastline lined with stunning beach resorts and high-end amenities.

Zihua, on the other hand, has retained more of an authentic, local Mexican vibe.

It’s a big fishing community with excellent seafood, quiet cobblestone streets, lively markets, and fewer vacation crowds.

How Safe Is Ixtapa-Zihuantanejo?

This little piece of paradise is generally considered very safe.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo has grown in popularity as a safe and welcoming substitution for Acapulco, which has had severe crime problems recently .

Acapulco and Ixtapa-Zihua are both in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, which is known for having relatively high crime rates.

Fortunately, Ixtapa and Zihua have stayed out of the limelight and still report low levels of crimes for locals and tourists.

Things to Do in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo

1. relax at the beaches.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is right on the Pacific Coast, with incredible beaches with turquoise waters, warm weather year-round, and few crowds.

So, for obvious reasons, one of the best things to do in Zihuatanejo Ixtapa is enjoy some beaches.

Here are some of the most popular beaches in the area:

🌊 Playa Principal : This is the main beach right in downtown Zihuatanejo. It’s small but easy to access and has plenty of restaurant options. 

🌊 Playa Madera : This beach is next to Playa Principal in downtown Zihua. It’s not the most beautiful beach, but it’s great for families or those staying nearby.

🌊 Playa La Ropa : This beach is outside downtown Zihua and can be easily reached on foot, by taxi, or by local bus. It’s known as a nicer, more upscale beach with beautiful water and long stretches of sand.

🌊 Playa Larga : This beach is right off the main exit leading into Zihua. It’s less crowded than the downtown beaches and offers picturesque views of the Pacific beyond.

There are a few other beaches and some you can only reach by boat. So, if you plan to spend a day (or a few days) relaxing on the warm sands, there are plenty of options.

2. Stroll at Paseo del Pescador

Paseo del Pescador, or Fishermen’s Walk in English, is a beautiful boardwalk along the Pacific Ocean.

The boardwalk stretches through all of Zihua and follows the curve of the bay.

The boardwalk also takes you through the main beaches in downtown Zihua, a few restaurants, and bars.

You’ll likely find fishermen along the boardwalk and fitness classes off to the side in the mornings and evenings.

This is a great place to stroll through while in Zihua. Not only does it lead to all the beaches, but it has beautiful views of the ocean and the surrounding town.

3. Biking at Ixtapa Bike Path

The bike path is one of the must-do Ixtapa activities.

Ixtapa is one of the few towns in Mexico with a well-traveled, safe, and maintained bike path.

The 9.5km (6 mile) bike path from the town of Ixtapa near the marina to Playa Linda.

You’ll pass through the jungle and stumble across regional wildlife, like alligators, iguanas, and coatis.

There are several places to rent a bike near the start of the bike path, including one shop right next to the marina.

This is a must-do for any nature enthusiasts, as the views along the stretch are beautiful, and you’ll likely encounter some unique wildlife.

At the end of the ride, stop in and grab some drinks at one of the local bars and restaurants.

4. Golf at Marina Ixtapa Nautica Golf Club

Club de Golf Marina Ixtapa is an 18-hole golf course in central Ixtapa, near Marina Ixtapa .

The golf course is perfect for all skill levels but leans on the more challenging side. This is one of the best Ixtapa Mexico things to do for golf enthusiasts.

The course contains an inlet of salt water, with water on 14 of 18 holes here. If you lose your ball in the water, don’t go after it.

There are a lot of crocodiles in this region, and you never know where one might be resting.

There’s not much shade on the course, either. So, try to go earlier in the day and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.

It’s a very scenic course, with plenty of greenery and beautiful water views. If you’re into gold, this is the perfect way to spend a morning in Ixtapa.

5. Discover the Ruins at Xihuacan

Xihuacan (pronounced she-wah-cahn) is an ancient Mayan ceremonial center and the only ruins in Zihuatanejo.

It’s unique because archeologists believe it was used by three cultures: the Tomiles, the Cuitatecos, and the Tepoztecas.

And there are remnants found from multiple other cultures. It’s possible Mayans traveled from all around Mesoamerican to gather here.

The ruins are only 40 minutes from Zihuatanejo, but getting there on your own is a bit complicated.

Unless you have a rental car, a guided tour from Zihua or Ixtapa is the easiest way to explore Xihuacan.

6. Snorkeling in Ixtapa Island

Ixtapa Island is a small island off Mexico’s Pacific Coast, near Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo, and is a must-do for things to do in Ixtapa Mexico.

While no cars or roads are on the island, some restaurant options exist. One of the island’s specialties is pescado a las brasas, or grilled fresh fish, over a wood-fired stove.

The beaches on Ixtapa Island are the best in the state, with crystal clear waters and plenty of lively fish.

You can get to Ixtapa Island from Zihuatanejo with a quick water taxi. However, you can also hop on a guided tour to reach all the best spots on the island.

7. Go Diving

Snorkeling in Ixtapa is excellent around Zihua, so it should be no surprise that scuba diving is even better.

When most people think of diving in Mexico, they think of places like Isla de Cozumel or Cabo. But Zihua has sites to rival them all.

There are a few excellent diving sites in Zihua. One of the best is known as “Solitary Rock.”

This singular rock goes 30m (100 feet) below sea level and is just teaming with colorful fish and other marine life.

There are tons of great wildlife here. You’ll have a chance to see some sea turtles, seahorses, starfish, and even whales during the right season.

Many of the dive shops in town offer certification courses. If you’re already certified, you’re good to go and enjoy the experience.

8. Whale Watching

The humpback whale season in Guerrero, Mexico, is from December to April, and the best time to see whales is from January to March.

You’ll have to take an organized boat tour to see the whales, as they don’t come too close to shore.

But it’s worth the time and money if you’re interested in getting up close and personal with these majestic beings.

Most whale-watching tours leave early in the morning and drive around until you spot a whale. Some tours even combine whale watching with a quick snorkeling trip.

9. Attend the Zihuantanejo Sailfest

Zihuatanejo’s Sailfest is the first week of February and lasts for five days. It’s a lively time to be in town.

Sailboats from around the world gather off the shore of Zihua for a fun time of sailboat and dinghy racing, seminars, concerts, street fairs, music concerts, and food tours.

The gathering raises funds for education or other children’s causes. It’s known as a great charity event in the region.

Even if you don’t sail, it’s a great time, with tons of people from all over the world and many different activities. This is another must for things to do in Zihuatanejo Ixtapa.

Turtles come onto the beach at Playa Blanca to lay eggs. A local sanctuary collects these eggs, helps them hatch, and ensures they cross the beach upon hatching.

This is the best turtle release experience near Playa Blanca . You are in charge of releasing one baby turtle, and you can watch it enter the ocean.

Doing these activities with a reputable tour company or guide is important, as you don’t want to encourage malpractice with these incredible sea creatures.

How to Get to Ixtapa-Zihuantanejo

The best way to get there is to catch some flights to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Mexico, to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport.

The international airport is about 15 minutes south of Zihuatanejo and 25 minutes south of Ixtapa.

Currently, nine major airlines fly out of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, including all the major airlines like Aeromexico, United Airlines, American Airlines, and Volaris.

You can also take a bus to Ixtapa-Zihuatenjo from Acapulco. The bus is about 5 hours each way and runs regularly.

Playa El Palmar - Lying along Boulevard Paseo Ixtapa-essentially Ixtapa's only main street-Playa El Palmar is a 2-mile (3-km) stretch of white-sand beach lined with restaurants, hotels, and shopping options. At each end of the street, you can find one of city's sprawling golf courses, while the marina on the north end is where boats depart daily for fishing charters. Though the spot  is ideal for sunbathing, beach volleyball, and building sandcastles, swimming is not the best due to the way the small waves break close to the shore.

Playa Contramar - Travel south along the jagged coast to reach Playa Contramar, a beach sitting on the northwest side of Zihuatanejo Bay. Instead of soft sand, the beach is made up of surf-polished rocks,  however the water here is a beautiful place for snorkeling thanks to generous coral and rock formations to be found beneath the surface.

Playa Principal - To the east of Contramar is Playa Principal, a quarter-mile-long (400 m) beach that lies in front of downtown Zihuatanejo. A short ride across the bay can bring you to the spectacular beaches of La Ropas and Las Gatas, which are ideal for swimming. Along Paseo del Pescador- Fisherman's Walk-plenty of great restaurants serve up fresh seafood.

Playa La Madera - Continue east along Fisherman's Walk past picturesque coves until you reach Playa La Madera. Here, enjoy a selection of delightful eateries, the shade of the palapa huts, and the music of the passing troubadours. Because you can wade out a good distance into the water before reaching the breaking waves, this beach is also one of the best spots for bodysurfing in the area.

Playa La Ropa -South around the bend of the bay is Playa La Ropa, where mild waves make the beach the prime spot for swimming and watersports. Find hotels and vacation rentals scattered along the coast, as well as restaurants with decks overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Playa Las Gatas - Located on the southwest edge of the bay, Playa Las Gatas is accessible either by footpath from the end of Playa La Ropa or by boat from the marina at Playa Principal. On this 3 hour Food Tasting Tour, you will be pick up at the lobby of your hotel at 8 A.M. And driven to Zihuatanejo, you will then taste 6 different Mexican traditional dishes in different locations, during the tasting you will be told about the ingredients that there on each of the dishes and how the dishes are cook. You will be walking approximately 10 minutes from one of the local restaurants to the other, during the walk your informative tour guide will provide you with cultural information and recommendation about the best places to go for dinner. You will try one dish on each of the restaurants. The dishes will be small portions. After trying 4 different dishes, you will then be taken to the house of local Mezcal producer, where you will taste 3 different kinds of Mezcal, this Zihuatanejo Mezcal tasting will take about 15 minutes, that way you will digest and make more room to eat the last two meals. It is also the place where you can find Jesus! an 18-foot bronze statue that lies underwater in the Las Gatas Bay. There are no big waves and no undertow because the beach is protected by a water break. On this 5 hours Mexican Cultural Tour, you will be taking through the low and middle class neighborhoods to see where the locals live and how they live, you will visit the Ixtapa lookout point and the farmers market. On the country side we will visit a farm that has samples of different tropical fruits that we grow in the area, you will also visit a factory where they make tiles and bricks with clay all done by hand. We will also go to Barre Potosi fishing village for lunch. So we will have lunch in a restaurant right on the beach. For Lunch you can get one of the following choices: Chicken on the grill or breaded or chicken fajitas. Fish on the grill or breaded or on garlic sauce. Shrimp on garlic sauce or breaded. All of the dishes come with guacamole & chips, a sope, we also serve you handmade tortillas, beans and salsa. It comes with a beer or soft drink. On this 4.5 hours Eco tour, we will drive you about 30 minutes to get to the horses stable, you will then get on the horse and ride through a beautiful peaceful beach with some white big rock formations in the middle of the ocean and a coconut plantation on the beach that makes the 1 hours Horseback Ride more tropical. After the Horseback ride we will drive you 30 minutes to a nice secluded lagoon where you will ride on a Panga boat (it has a roof) for about 40 minutes to see a dense mangrove vegetation and a lot of lagoon birds. The last part of the tour is an excellent lunch on the beach next to the lagoon. From the boat to the restaurant is only five minutes walking distance. After lunch you will transport back to your hotel.

This 1 hour and 20 minutes horseback-ride experience takes you through Playa Larga beach, coconut plantations, and mangrove trees in the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo area. Ride through a pleasant landscapes of mountain ranges, a lagoon, and the ocean. The tour is suitable for both beginner riders and the more experienced alike. It includes round-trip transport from the lobby of your hotel in Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo or from the cruise ship pier in Zihuatanejo.

The Ocean waters surrounding Zihuatanejo are home to some of the best deep-sea fishing or small game fishing in Mexico. Fish you can catch are: Sail Fish, Magi Magi, Marlin, Bonito fish, tuna fish. You can choose to go small game or deeps sea fishing or combine both. Take your fish and have it latter for dinner; your hotel chef will cook it for you. The boat is private only your group will go. You can buy extra drinks and snacks to take with you on the pier before you get on the boat.

This 5 hours fishing trip includes life bait, all the fishing equipment, fishing license, 25 feet super panga boat (it has a good roof to protect you from the sunshine), a cooler with ice and 10 drinks (beer, water and soda). The boat has 2 chairs to fish, so 2 people can fish at the same time, on the inside the boat has more room to sit. Bottom fishing is a lot of fun and high chances to catch fish. On this fishing trip you can catch: red snapper, grouper, triggerfish and yellowtail jack. Best captain for bottom fishing in Zihuatanejo (The fisherman has 45 years of experience so he knows where the fish are)!!! The captain is very professional, speaks English and has an assistant. This outdoor Eco-tour will las approximately 5 hours, it begins at 9 A.M. at the lobby of your hotel, you will be driven from your hotel in Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo to the beautiful white sand beach name La Ropa, when we arrive to the beach you will be equipped with your life jacket an kayak and we will kayak across the bay for about 45 minutes to get to the calm water of Las Gatas Beach. In Las Gatas Beach we will rest for a few minutes, maybe have a drink, we will also take your order for the lunch and then we will go snorkeling for about 45 minutes, when we finish snorkeling, you lunch will be ready. Overview This amazing guided experience will take place at Barra de Potosi Lagoon where you will have the best experience, paddling around the mangrove trees and seeing different kinds of lagoon birds in a nice and calm lagoon. We do the tour in the mornings when there are more birds and when the temperature is a little cooler. Don't be afraid to try this new sport, once you learn how to balance it will be a lot of fun! After the Wild life Refuge we will drive you back to your hotel. The lagoon has very calm water, so you don't need to have kayaking skills. Wear a long sleeve shirt to protect you from getting sunburn and clothes to get wet. On this 3 hours experience, we will be driving you southt of Zihuatanejo about 45 minutes, to get to the turtle farm, in the farm we will select the nest that is hatching and you will have the chance to dig a few baby turtles out of the nest, we will provide you with a small plastic container where you will put the just born sea turtles. The turtles will remain for about 10 or 15 minutes in the container. After 15 minutes the sea turtle will be more active and ready to run, so you will take them to the wet sand about 20 feet away from the ocean and as soon as they are put in the wet sand they will run to the ocean. We will wait until they all make it to the ocean (During the whole process you can take pictures). Then we will drive you back to your hotel. Dress casual. The tour includes: Round-trip transport from the lobby of your hotel in Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo, Entrance Fee, Baby Turtle Dig and Release and a bottle of water.

This is a 4 hours experience from the time we pick you up to the time we bring you back. We will pick you up at 7:30 A.M. at the lobby of your hotel and transport you to the Zihuatanejo main pier, in there you will be taken on a 2 hours fishing trip (small game), after the fishing we will come to the beautiful and secluded Manzanillo cove, where you will have the opportunity to snorkel for about one hour and 30 minutes. This 2 days adventure begins with the pick up at 7:30 A.M., in the lobby of your hotel in Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo. On day 1 you will be taking up to the beautiful Tlalpujahua mining town. Build up in the mountains in the state of Michoacán at an elevation of 8,464 feet. The drive will take 6 hours. The town is now known for the Christmas decorations. In Tlalpujahua we will have time to wonder around the down town, walk and explore this beautiful colonial town, eat dinner in one of the local authentic Mexican restaurants and we will spend the night in Tlalpujahua. We will park the car in the National Park and we’ll get on the horses and ride for about 40 minutes to find the butterflies. This private tour, for just you and your family, will last approximately 4 hours, during this time you will explore the neighborhoods where the locals live, the wild life preserve of Playa Linda, Ixtapa lookout point, the farmers market where the locals go shopping, Marina Yacht club and soak up the shore line scenery of la Madera beach. This is a 2 hours experience that includes eleven different canopy adventures such as hanging & navy style bridges, as well as thrilling ziplines, ranging from 132 yards and 50 ft high to 273 yards and 98 ft-high. Located in the back side of Ixtapa this amazing park is a preserve tropical forest, which host characteristic flora of the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo region. Then you will ride for about one hour and 10 minutes through the jungle, across a small river, up and down a hill, to get to the beach. On this 7 hours experience, you will be driven south of Zihuatanejo for about 45 minutes to get to the Juluchuca rural community where you will visit one of the workshops to learn the whole process of making coconut candy. The town is also known for the production of sea salt, so you can buy some coconut candy and sea salt to take home. We will continue our drive 20 minutes south to get to El Calvario lookout point to take some pictures of the Mexican pacific coast in the state of Guerrero. The next visit will be to Puerto Vicente Guerrero, a beautiful, relaxing and small fishing village, where we will get on a boat and tour the coastal area of Puerto Vicente Guerrero and Papanoa town, there will also be a rock formation where sometimes you see birds standing on top of it. After the boat ride we will have lunch at a very simple but very good and clean restaurant in Vicente Guerrero Bay right by the ocean. For lunch you can get one of the following choices: The whole red snapper Octopus Shrimp Chicken Cheese quesadillas The fish, octopus, shrimp and chicken can be prepare on the grill with garlic or with "diabla sauce" (spicy hot), we also bring you guacamole, rice, salad, handmade tortillas and one drink. After lunch you will be taken back to your hotel. The tour includes: Round-trip transport from the lobby of your hotel in Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo, tour guide service and lunch.
