Charlie Puth

Last month, Charlie Puth  wrapped The Honda Civic Tour, which saw the 26-year-old headlining amphitheaters across North America and playing iconic venues like New York’s Radio City Music Hall and Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre. The majority of the crowds were upwards of 20,000 for each date, meaning Puth performed to more than 200,000 people in a matter of weeks.

“To me, it is really about the amount of people who are in there,” Puth says, “because it just makes it so much more fun.”

But “fun” is a modest way for Puth to assess his latest tour. While the 30-date trek was the biggest tour of his career thus far, it was also pretty transformative for Puth as both a songwriter and a performer. The “Attention” singer said in a video tour diary that the tour helped his songwriting, and he spent a majority of the show away from his piano — a big personal step for the singer/songwriter.

Though Puth is much more comfortable on big stages (“It’s kind of this weird juxtaposition,” he says), his next show will revert back to his beginnings. The New Jersey native will be playing New York City’s 700-person Highline Ballroom on Oct. 5 for JetBlue Mastercard cardmembers, giving some lucky fans an intimate Charlie Puth experience.

Billboard chatted with Puth ahead of the special show to hear about his Honda Civic Tour highlights and takeaways, including a couple of tour-inspired new tunes.

How did this tour feel different from your first two as a headliner?

This time around, I really got to see how wide and diverse my fan base is. I saw girls and boys as young as five years old in the front row, and right next to them were grandparents who were fans of me. I got to see it almost every night, so it inspired me to create more records on the road.

How do you feel like you’ve grown as a performer?

The biggest thing for me when I even started touring a couple of years ago was to just get off of the piano. I had been so afraid of leaving the piano. Now it’s kind of just like, “not giving a shit” attitude — even though I do care. I care about giving the best performance that I can give, but not overthinking so many things.

Kind of like when I’m in the studio… it’s the same “not overthinking” attitude. You don’t want to overthink a melody or chord progression because then it’ll become rigid. The same thing translates live, and you don’t want to overthink your small movements. I’m not dancing or anything like that, but you know what I mean.

Was there a show that marked a turning point for you getting more comfortable with leaving your piano?

Yeah, when I played San Francisco when 22,000 people came to see me perform that night [Aug. 17 at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California]. I was just looking at everybody, saying to myself, “There are 22,000 people here.” I could have never have imagined playing in front of 22,000 people.

View this post on Instagram                   I can’t believe this tour is almost over. This was 20,000 of you last night. And thank you to @stephenputh for playing with me. #hondacivictour @hondastage A post shared by Charlie Puth (@charlieputh) on Aug 18, 2018 at 11:17am PDT

Did any of your  Voicenotes  tracks spark a reaction that made you change the way you view the song?

My song “Boy.” [The reaction] made me look at that song differently. That song has a kind of cult following attached to it, which is really cool. It was later in the set as well, and people lost their mind every night when it came on.

I think it’s because the title is a bit shocking. Before you even listen to the song. It’s like, “Charlie Puth puts out a song called ‘Boy.’ I wonder what this is about.” And then it’s exactly the opposite of what you judged it by its title, if you know what I mean.

Was there a song that was the most fun to sing?

The most fun for me is “Attention,” because I don’t have to sing it at all. It’s wild. Everyone sings each part of that song like it’s the chorus. And “How Long” — that was a joyride, playing that record, because I had to do a four-minute keytar solo and I think people were not expecting that.

[Also] the more intimate moments like playing “Change,” and not telling everybody to put their lighters up — but they just do it off the reaction of the song. Feeling that every night was really special too.

View this post on Instagram                   I love you all… #hondacivictour @hondastage A post shared by Charlie Puth (@charlieputh) on Aug 29, 2018 at 3:58pm PDT

How did the tour impact your songwriting?

When I’m writing a record, the most important thing to me is the key of the song. Make sure the key of the song is in an appropriate vocal range for both boys and girls, and anybody. When you’re surrounded by fans who are singing along every lyric to songs that are already out, you start to remember what their voices sound like when you leave the stage. You have that in mind when you’re making a new record that no one’s heard yet. I always have my fans’ voices in my head, but more so than ever when I just get off stage and I go right to the studio.

Did anything you experienced on this tour result in new songs?

The first night in Canada, there was a rep from Live Nation, and he — without giving it away — he said that I reminded him of an artist that he represented for many years, and one artist that I look up to. It kind of inspired this one song that I worked on tirelessly, continuously, for the entire tour. I have a couple jams. I’m excited for people to hear the next phase.

Is that part of the reason why Elton John called you the other day? I saw your tweet about that crazy text .

No, Elton had just wanted to talk to me for a while. That was a pleasure, talking to him about music. I feel like I get to talk to all the people I look up to — Herbie Hancock texting me, talking about jazz and pop music, Elton John. The list goes on. It’s really wild.

Honda Civic Tourer review

60492_2015_civic.jpg

Spacious, comfy, and it doesn’t look like a Golf

It's not supposed to be a driver's car, but even then it's not that involving

What is it?

Honda has clearly recognised the demands of the utilitarian type; they like utility. And space. Lots and lots of space. So although there is some talk of this new Civic Tourer being designed and developed in Europe – alluding to a more dynamic drive, which we’ll come to shortly – there’s no mistaking the raison d’etre for Honda’s new estate-ified hatch.

It sits on exactly the same platform as the Civic hatch, only with a longer rear overhang to create that huge boot. In fact, at 624 litres with the seats up, it trumps models from a couple of classes above for space; cars such as the BMW 5-Series Touring and Audi A6 Avant (and nearly matches them with the seats down). It’s big.

2024 Honda Civic Sedan Touring Review: Still a Benchmark

2024 Honda Civic Sedan Touring Review Quick Take

Two years ago, the latest generation Honda Civic earned the AutoGuide 2022 Car of the Year Award. With a fantastic blend of refinement, composure, performance, and comfort, we were quite impressed with Honda's small sedan.

Now, two years later, we are revisiting the Civic to see if we're still as smitten with the car as we were before. For evaluation, we have a 2024 Honda Civic Sedan Touring and, spoiler alert, it's still (mostly) good.

When the latest generation Honda Civic hit our roads, we were impressed. In fact, we were so thoroughly taken by the compact car’s ability to do everything quite well, it ended up winning the AutoGuide Car of the Year Award for 2022 .

Fast forward two years and we are revisiting our slightly older friend, to see if the Civic still has what it takes. The auto industry never stands still and in the span of just 24 months, a lot can change.

What’s New for 2024: Not Much

The Honda Civic rolls into the 2024 model yeah virtually unchanged. A big update is coming next year , which will include new technology, updated styling, and the inclusion of a hybrid model. For now, the Civic soldiers on, outfitted much like it was in 2022.

Exterior Style: Subtle Sophistication

The 2024 Honda Civic Sedan is more conservatively styled than Civic sedans form the past.

When the 2022 Honda Civic debuted, it ditched some of the funkier, trendy styling elements the previous generations featured. The car was now more restrained, more sophisticated. This doesn’t mean it has a poor design, as we quite like it. It’s just a shapely proportion fitting the sedan’s increased size. At a total length of 184.0-inches (4,673 mm) long, the 2024 Honda Civic is bigger than a 2002 Accord.

For our evaluation, we have a top-of-the-line Civic Touring that gets a few exclusive exterior items such as heated mirrors with integrated turn signals and LED fog lights.

Powertrain and Fuel Economy: Punchy and Frugal

Under the hood for this generation Honda Civic Touring is a 180 hp 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.

While on the topic of exclusivity, the Touring trim is one of two trims in the USA that includes the more potent turbocharged engine. In Canada, the Touring is the only trim with the boosted four-cylinder.

That engine is Honda’s now-quite-familiar 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that develops 180 horsepower and 177 pound feet of torque. In the Touring, the only transmission available is a continuously variable automatic transmission.

The 2024 Honda Civic Sedan Touring is quite fuel efficient as well, even though it has the lowest ratings within the Civic lineup.

The 1.5-liter unit is not a sports engine, at least in this configuration. But with 180 hp, it’s so well matched for the Civic. It never lacks the needed power, no matter the load or situation. The engine is so smooth to build rpms quickly - like a good Honda should. Would we like the extra oomph from the Acura Integra’s engine? Sure, but we can’t complain with what we have here.

Like most modern cars, the Civic has drive modes, including Econ, Normal, Sport. On regular grade fuel, the little turbo is quite frugal, achieving an officially rated 31 mpg (7.6 L/100 km) city and 38 mpg (6.1 L/100 km) highway.

Handling and Drivability: Feels Like a Honda

During our test, the 18-inch wheels wore 235/40R18 winter tires. Even with these installed, there was plenty of cornering grip in the Civic.

This Civic uses a suspension set-up that includes struts up front and a multi-link design at the back. On the Touring, larger 18-inch wheels are included wearing 235/40R18 all season tires. Another important figure to mention is the Civic Sedan’s curb weight. At 3,077 pounds (1,371 kg) as tested, it's positively svelte compared to some competitors – especially considering the car’s size. Opt for a lower trim model, and weight dips well below 3,000 pounds (1,360 kg).

Another strong Honda trait that’s not lost with the latest Civic is steering feel. It has good weight, feel, and a relatively low turning ratio. Even though our tester was on winter tires, there is still abundant mechanical grip when tackling corners at speed. The steering and chassis let the driver know how close to the edge of grip they are.

Ride Quality and Comfort: Striking a Balance

The front driver's seat is powered and can be set quite low, allowing taller drivers more space to sit.

On the road, the Civic Sedan still feels more refined than most anything in this class. It even feels more planted and well-crafted than some mid-size sedans, which makes sense considering the Civic’s size. There’s a great balance of handling capabilities and ride comfort, as the car doesn’t stray too far onto either category.

During our week with the car a rear tire inhaled a large nail and slowly went flat. The suspension is so well designed to absorb bumps, I couldn’t feel just how dangerously low the tire pressure was. It was the horrendous noise emitting from the right rear, as the tire belts wailed in agony, that alerted me to the issue.

Inside, passengers front and rear are treated with ample space. Those in the front seats receive 39.3 inches (998 mm) of headroom and 42.3 inches (1,074 mm) of legroom. Rear seat occupants have a more squared off living space, with 37.1 inches (942 mm) of headroom and 37.4 inches (950 mm) of legroom.

With over 37-inches of headroom and legroom, adults can fit in the rear seat of the 2024 Honda Civic Touring.

Regardless of where one sits, there’s as much real-world space as found in the specifications chart. With the power driver's seat all the way to its lowest setting, the driver is sunk down quite a bit in the cabin. This allows taller drivers to fit behind the wheel, but some shorter drivers might feel low in relation to the dashboard and side windowsills.

As the Touring trim, it includes some comfort goodies like a rear seat center armrest, a power driver’s seat, leather seats, a power passenger seat, and heated front seats. In Canada, there are also a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. Sorry America, those items are completely absent from the Civic Sedan.

Interior Style and Quality: Simple, But Useful

Styling is simple, yet tasteful in the Civic. We like the honeycomb grille running across the dashboard for a little ibt of added style.

After three model years on the market, the interior shine has not dulled. We still like the design and look of the interior, even if it’s showing up in more and more Honda products. The honeycomb grille is still great way to break up the dash and add functionality with the vents.

That stated, the interior isn’t the most stylish, nor technologically advance. But everything inside is logically placed, works, and is easy to operate. For example, the digital driver’s information center has fewer layouts and screen customizations than some competitors, but all the information that is needed is there and I found it easy to adjust to my liking.

Tech and Safety: As Expected for the Big Dog

A lot of standard technology is available on the Civic, with the Touring model adding more features like parking sensors

That driver’s information center resides within a 10.2-inch screen, while a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen sits to the right. Since we have the Touring trim, audio is emitted through a Bose 12 speaker sound system.

Being the top-of-the-line trim, our tester also includes niceties like a moonroof, rain sensing wipers, dual-zone automatic climate control, HomeLink remote system, automatic dimming rear-view mirror, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

All Honda Civic Sedans come standard with safety features like collision mitigation, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, driver attention monitor, and more. Our tester includes the blind spot monitor, which is available on the top two trims in USA, as well as the top 3 trims in Canada. Exclusive to Touring in both countries though, are rear cross traffic alert and parking sensors.

Value Dollars and Sense: Competitive in a Small Field

In the shrinking compact sedan class, the 2024 Honda Civic is still competitively priced.

In the dwindling class of compact cars, the Civic Sedan is one of the pricier options. The least expensive model retails for $25,045 (all prices include destination) in the United States, while our test car came in at $32,100. That's about $2,000-$3,000 more than equivalent competitors. But it is the benchmark, so you get what you pay for.

Other than the charge for the upgraded paint, no options are available on the Touring trim level. In Canada, the Civic Sedan starts at $28,620, with a Touring model featuring the upgraded paint coming in at $36,630.

Final Thoughts: 2024 Honda Civic Sedan Touring

After three years on the market, we still quite like the 2024 Honda Civic Sedan Touring

Even after 3 years on the road, the Civic Sedan is still towards, if not at, the head of the compact car class. In fact, with how well-crafted and spacious the new Civic is, it’s hard to rationalize stepping up to the Accord. Even the argument for getting a hybrid drivetrain in the Accord will soon disappear as the Civic Hybrid is coming next year.

That brings us to the next point. With how much we like the current Civic, next year it should be even better. If you can wait a year, it’s probably worth the delay to get the refreshed 2025 Honda Civic. For those that can’t wait, the current model is still a great, albeit pricey purchase.

The civics biggest flaw is its dreadful CVT, and I wonder if it still suffers from oil dilution in that miniscule wheezy 1.5L turbo.

honda civic tour

Pros: Cool and well-made interior; very spacious; powerful and efficient turbo engine; well-balanced driving dynamics

Cons: pricey point of entry; no hybrid (yet); si interior is a bit tacky.

Even if you could spend a lot more than the 2023 Honda Civic costs, there's a very good chance you should still consider it. This not-that-compact sedan and hatchback are just that good. Thinking about getting a midsize sedan or small SUV? Consider a Civic, too, it’s surprisingly spacious. Entry-level luxury car? The Civic is surprisingly luxurious. Weekend sports car? The Civic Si (and even the Sport Touring with a manual) is a blast. The latest-generation Civic, introduced last year, is just so well-rounded and so well-executed that it really does transcend its simple compact car segment and open itself up to all sorts of buyers.

Now, those on a tighter budget may admittedly not be among them this year as Honda nixed the old LX trim level and jacked up the prices. Still, when you consider just how much car you’re getting for your money, the Civic still offers tremendous value given its mix of space, equipment, refinement, performance, fuel economy, safety … we could go on. Again, it’s well-rounded.

It's also worth pointing out that it looks pretty darn good, especially the ultra-cool interior with its full-width honeycomb air vents. Frankly, if you thought the Civic Hatchback looked better inside and out than the mechanically related Acura Integra, we wouldn’t argue. Ditto its various traditional competitors, the Hyundai Elantra, Mazda 3, Nissan Sentra, Kia Forte or Toyota Corolla. Beyond aesthetics, none of those can really match the blend of positive attributes and/or model variety offered by the 2023 Honda Civic. Seriously, it’s just terrific.

What's new for 2023?

The LX trim level is discontinued for 2023, meaning the new base trim level is the Sport, making the 2023 Civic’s base price higher than last year. After being completely updated last year, the Civic otherwise goes unchanged, but an all-new Civic Type R does rejoin the team . We also know that a Civic Hybrid is coming to replace the Insight, but the timing of that was not known at the time of this writing.

honda civic tour

What are the Civic interior and in-car technology like?

In a segment filled with surprisingly impressive interiors, the 2023 Civic interior delivers even in the base Sport trim level with cloth seats and the base infotainment system (pictured in the large picture above). This is still an economy car, so there's plenty of hard plastic about (center console, door sills), but what you see and touch most come together in a tasteful, modern design that looks (and feels) like it belongs in a much pricier car. There's more than a whiff of  Audi right down to the way the buttons and knobs click satisfyingly. We also have to call out the dash-width air vents, with their honeycomb openings, metallic finish and clever knob controllers (they're outlined in red in the Civic Si ). They're so great Audi probably wishes it had come up with them first.

Perhaps most important, however, the Civic is no longer held back by its infotainment system. There's a 7-inch base touchscreen (below left) and the Tourings get a 9-inch unit with increased functionality (below right), but both represent improvements over the last-generation system with quicker responses, a more sensible menu structure and no glitches during our time with it. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard (wireless in the Touring), and with CarPlay at least, we like that Honda doesn't lock out touchscreen controls for the Music app (a common annoyance).

The LX, Sport and EX have a combination of analog speedometer and 7-inch multi-purpose display, but it all appears to blend together into one unit. It's traditional in design, yet modern in functionality. The Touring and Si get a completely digital, 10.2-inch instrument panel that's similar in basic appearance but provides greater functionality and flashier graphics.

Finally, one minor note about the Si. As with its many predecessors, the interior features lots of little red accents, including cross stitching, air vent trim and, most notably, the front seat centers. However, the back seat is not only just black, but a different upholstery. It looks cheap. There’s also the questionable aesthetic choice of making a red interior mandatory even if the outside is painted orange or electric blue.

honda civic tour

How big is the Civic?

The 2023 Civic is available in sedan and hatchback body styles, although the latter is more like an Audi A7 “Sportback” in body style than an old-school, Civic hatchback. The sedan is 4.9 inches longer, all of which is behind the back wheels, making the trunk a longer, more voluminous space than the Hatchback. That’s right, we found the sedan could hold more luggage than the hatchback despite having less cargo volume on paper: 14.8 versus 24.5. What’s up with this? Basically, all the hatchback’s extra volume is up high where you’re less likely or able to utilize it for actual stuff. It does provide greater versatility, however, as lowering the seats grants a substantially larger space that’s fairly similar to what you’d find in a subcompact SUV. In short, either body style provides an exceptional amount of cargo space for a compact car. You may even find you don’t need to step up to a midsize sedan like the Accord or a small SUV like the HR-V.

That verdict carries over to the back seat as well. In the segment, its 37.4 inches of rear legroom is bettered only by the  Hyundai Elantra , and is about 2 inches more than most competitors. For a compact car, it's definitely not compact back there. A 6-foot-3 driver with the seat pushed all the way back still found enough space in the back seat of both body styles to sit comfortably "behind himself." There was also just enough headroom. There’s also plenty of room left up front in the passenger seat after installing a rear-facing child seat in the back.

What are the Civic fuel economy and performance specs?

The Civic is available with a choice of four engines, but that’s including those in the Civic Si and Civic Type R.

The Civic Sport is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-four that produces that produces 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, which is a typical amount for the segment. Front-wheel drive and  a continuously variable transmission (CVT) are standard on every Civic sedan, but the Hatchback Sport gets the option of a six-speed manual. Fuel economy is 30 miles per gallon city, 37 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined for the sedan. The Hatchback Sport with the CVT returns 29/37/32 mpg, while the manual option drops to 26/36/29.

The EX and Touring sedans, plus the EX-L and Sport Touring hatchbacks get a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four that produces 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. A CVT is standard on all trims with this engine, but the Sport Touring hatchback can be equipped with a sweet-shifting six-speed manual. Besides its significantly better performance, this engine is also more efficient: 32/42/36 mpg for the EX and 31/38/34 for the Touring, with the EX-L and Sport Touring hatchbacks likely being 1 mpg lower, respectively (figures for 2023 were not available at the time of this writing). The Sport Touring hatchback with the six-speed manual should return 28/37/31.

The Honda Civic Si also has a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four, but it produces 200 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual are mandatory. It returns fuel economy of 27/37/31, but unlike the other Civics, requires premium fuel. It is also only available as a sedan.

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that pumps out 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque – 9 hp and 15 lb-ft more than previous. It too is exclusive paired with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. Performance figures and fuel economy estimates were not available at the time of this writing. It is only available as a hatchback.

What's the Civic like to drive?

Through its 11 generations, the Honda Civic has always been at its best and most competitive when it was responsive and even fun to drive. The 2023 Civic picks up the torch and builds on the significant progress made by the last generation. It's indeed fun to drive, with a lightweight and agile feel that encourages you to seek out winding roads. The steering is precise and consistently weighted, imparting a sense of connection to the driver. Throttle response is also as you'd expect from a driver-focused car, though selecting Sport mode in the Sport or Touring trims really wakes things up with old-school, hair-trigger reactions that any driving enthusiast should appreciate. Importantly, it’s also impressively comfortable, refined and even quiet for a compact car.

The turbo engine remains the one to get given its greater torque, strong acceleration and superior fuel economy. That said, the naturally aspirated base engine is certainly acceptable – it has comparable power to its competitors, but it's smoother and sounds better. It is a Honda after all. The almost-mandatory CVT makes up for some slightly blender-like noises by limiting the yo-yoing between high and low revs associated with this increasingly common transmission. It also simulates gear changes like other CVTs, but does so in a more natural way than what you'll find in a Subaru, for example.

Now, if you don't like the idea of a CVT at all, the Hatchback alone offers a sweet six-speed manual with either engine. The gearbox is flickable, but weighty. Notchy, but not burdensome. Easy to shift for newbies, but oh-so-fun to play with for experts. Seriously, the shifter feel in this approximately $30,000 Honda puts to shame those in  much more expensive sports cars . It also does wonders for the turbo engine, making it feel and sound like a much more athletic (and classically Honda) powerplant.

Of course, if athleticism is your goal, there is the Honda Civic Si (as well as the mechanically related Acura Integra). We could wax poetically about the joy it is to drive those, but it’s probably best to dig into both deeper in our Civic Si review and our Integra review . We would add, though, that the Civic Sport Touring hatchback with the manual is such a delight to drive, that we’d seriously consider saving money at the dealer and at the pump and just going with that. Especially versus the Integra.

As for the Civic Type R, we had yet to drive that at the time of this writing, but you can read about it here . We doubt we’ll dislike it given its joyful predecessor.

2023 Honda Civic Type R Revealed

Read the details about what we know about the high-performance Civic Type R.

What is the 2023 Civic price?

Civic pricing is up considerably for 2023. MSRPs are up across the board, but the base price goes up the highest since the old base LX trim level has been discontinued. Frankly, we don’t think that’s such a big deal considering we urged shoppers to skip it last year considering how much equipment the Sport added versus its price premium. Nevertheless, you’re looking at a starting point of $25,745 for the Sport sedan, including the $1,095 destination charge, or $26,545 for the Sport hatchback. The Si starts at $29,195. Pricing for the Type R was not available at the time of this writing.

Sport: $25,745 EX: $27,145 Touring: $30,745 Si: $29,195

Sport: $26,545 EX-L: $28,845 Sport Touring: $31,645 Type R: TBA

What are the Civic safety ratings and driver assistance features?

Every Civic comes standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency  braking , lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with steering assistance and stop-and-go capability. Blind-spot warning is included on all but the Sport.

The NHTSA gave both styles five out of five stars for overall, side and rollover crash protection, and four stars for frontal crash protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2022 Civic Sedan and Hatchback a Top Safety Pick+ after it received the best-possible performance in every single category, which is a rare feat.

Test-driving the 2024 honda civic type r.

The Civic Type R falls into the “thou art that” category of great Civics of history. It’s beautiful. It comes with a smart silver stickshift. (Automatic is an option.) It’s the fastest Civic ever produced, Honda says of this “high performance hatchback.” Above all, it provides rip-roarin’ fun. I’ve had rivals Golf and two Supras, and I like the Type R best.

2024 Civic Type R

What's New for 2024?

The Type R is a carryover from 2023. Bodywise, they’ve toned down the wilder side of the previous editions, but you still have a huge rear wing and 19-inch wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S performance tires. You look like what you are - a stylish little guy with some teeth.

The 2024 Honda Civic Type R starts at $45,890 - $1,000 more than last year - topping out at $46,345 with options and delivery charge.

Interior and cargo

The Type R never lets you forget you’re driving a car built for fun with its red accents, faux carbon-fiber trim, and butt-coddling, firm front seats. One interesting thing to know is your inside and storage are the same as a regular Civic, so if you’ve got one or access to one, sit down in it and you’ll be able to tell if you’ll comfortably fit into the Type R.

WWE Raw Results, Winners And Grades After Great Wyatt Sicks Follow-Up

‘the acolyte’ rotten tomatoes score keeps falling, and maybe it should if we ever hope to find balance in the force, amazon prime day 2024: this year’s dates and details are finally here.

As for tech, you’ve got the top-of-the-line Civic in Honda’s lineup, so you get all the things. That would include a 10.2-inch gauge cluster screen, 9.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto , wireless phone charger, wifi hotspot, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system with speed-sensitive volume control. The system synced with my phone in less than 10 seconds and the sound system was nice and rich.

If you’re the sort who likes to keep up with the car’s hard data, Honda's smartphone linked LogR datalogger will keep an eye on the vehicle’s key performance metrics and record lap times. It’s a lot to learn but if you take it slowly, feature by feature, you’ll get into it.

It’s pure fun, folks. You forget most of what else you were thinking about when you put the hammer down. The tires hang onto the road with a death grip, almost daring you to take each corner ever-faster, and you do. You know you’re not a Porsche but those corners get carved, all right.

And yet it behaves at all the low speeds, too, tooling around town. The shift takes almost no time to get used to, in fact I would recommend this vehicle for anyone who wants to learn how to drive a standard. It delivers on every promise made in the press materials and word-of-mouth. People really love this ride, it’s easy to see why and Honda is smart to leave it alone.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The 2023 Civic got a “top rated” award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but they specifically say the Type R isn’t included in that ranking. That said, the Type R comes with a host of standard driver-assistance technology, such as standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking and standard adaptive cruise control, and more.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

You get two years of complimentary maintenance when you buy the Type R. A limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles and the powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles.

Conclusion: The Type R is fun but also practical, not to mention gorgeous.

SCCA Solo National Tour Rocks in Cleveland

Holy Moses Cleveland did autocrossers have an exciting time at the June 21-23, 2024, Tire Rack SCCA® Cleveland Solo® National Tour experience at the I-X Center in Northeast Ohio. A site located alongside Cleveland Hopkins International Airport – and just a stone’s throw from NASA’s Glenn Research Center – more than 140 participants joined together and fired things up hotter than a Cuyahoga River blaze.

Friday night’s welcome party, hosted by SCCA’s Neohio Region, was a complete hit thanks to plenty of food and beverages. Plus, a karting competition kept attendees playing well into the night.

Saturday was very hot and humid, with temperatures reaching the low 90-degree mark. But that didn’t slow people down when it came to attacking fun, fast, and flowing courses designed by Jonathan Stagg at the large asphalt site with plenty of paddock and grid space.

Sunday was much cooler, with clouds and a breeze opening the day in what would be considered wet with drying conditions. From there, however, there were some light showers throughout the day, which created changing conditions to challenge competitors.

Megan DePietro, who drove a Porsche GT4 in the Super Street Prepared Ladies class, had a unique experience over the weekend thanks to the SCCA Women on Track Driver Development Program. That initiative aids one randomly selected woman at each Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour and ProSolo® Series event with an opportunity for a one-on-one, 30-minute virtual coaching session with a top-tier driver from the sport – which was John Vitamvas last weekend in Cleveland.

This level of coaching is aimed at helping drivers meet their performance driving goals. DePietro put the new skills to work, posting times over two days that would’ve earned her the runner-up spot in the Super Street Prepared class at the I-X Center.

Competitors Rocked ‘N’ Rolled in Ohio

D Street (DS) was the largest class in Cleveland with 17 drivers and provided lots of excitement. Tom O'Gorman, driving a 2021 Honda Civic Type R, took the victory by 1.260sec over runner-up DJ Alessandrini in a 2023 Toyota GR86. Alessandrini’s co-driver, Peter Schnore, finished third. Dave Potocki was fourth in another 2023 Toyota GR86, and Todd Kunze earned the fifth and final DS trophy behind the wheel of a 2024 Hyundai Elantra N.

C Street (CS) was also a nailbiter as Andrew Ferrara, in a 2019 Mazda Miata, made an exciting final run Sunday with the hope of improving on his fourth-place position. He met his goal, ending up the CS runner-up to Andrew Pallotta in a 2023 Mazda MX-5. Kent Weaver got the third and final trophy driving another 2023 Mazda MX-5.

The five-driver D Street Ladies class was equally fun to watch as Emily Brown came home victorious in a 2023 Hyundai Elantra N. Emily Whitaker, driving a 2022 Toyota GR86, claimed the runner-up trophy.

And speaking of ladies, Olivia Hammac excelled in Cleveland by taking the top spot in Super Street driving a 2020 Lotus Evora. That was her very first win in an open class at a National event.

The Street Touring® Hatch contest resulted in one of the closest finishes of the weekend. Driving a 2016 Audi TT, Thomas Kring earned the win by 0.033sec over Andrew Nienhuis in a 2016 Volkswagen GTI.

F Street Prepared, with its eight entrants, saw Caleb Pardus emerge victorious in a 1998 Dodge Neon. He was 0.427sec faster than runner-up Steve Mieritz’ 1986 Honda CRX, who DNF’d on his sixth and final run. Calvin Owens grabbed the third and final trophy in a 2008 Honda Civic Si.

Something unique for the weekend was inclusion of a special class run locally in Northeast Ohio. Neohio’s Leroy Miata Cup (LMC) had 23 drivers, all piloting Miatas of different styles, and the newcomers seemed to fall in love with National-level competition. Bryan Nells won that class, and Ryan McDonald was the runner-up. Ryan Hiler was third, Andrew Mercer fourth, Jonathan Staggs fifth, and Charles White sixth. The seventh and final trophy then went to Joe Murphy.
