Your itinerary

Day 1 The fun begins today as we board our overnight flight from Salt Lake  to London.  (airfare not included in tour price) Get ready for a fabulous British Isles vacation!  (Meal in Flight)

Day 2   England. London, Oxford, Warwickshire.   Upon arival in London, board our deluxe motorcoach for our included transfer to the  hotel. On the way to our hotel in Warwickshire, make a stop in Oxford where Henry II established the first university of Britain in 1167.  Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner at our hotel.  [D]

Day 3   England. Stow-on-the-Wold, Stratford-Upon- Avon, Warwichshire.   Views of the unspoiled countryside known as the Cotswolds clearly confirm you have arrived in England.  Gentle hillsides, peaceful meadows, and charming villages with old stone buildings characterize this region. The first destination today is Stow-on-the-Wold, offering antique shops and an opportunity to take a photo with your hands in the village’s authentic stocks.  Then it’s on to Stratford-Upon-Avon, where half-timbered houses with thatched roofs create a truly English setting.  The introductory tour includes a picture stop in front of Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and entrance to the birthplace of William Shakeapeare. This afternoon an included visit to Warwick Castle, showcasing 1,000 years of history. Return to our Warwickshire hotel for an included dinner.   [B,D] Day 4   England. York, Darlington.  Drive north via the Nottingham area.  Around lunch time, arrive in the historic city of York and spend the afternoon exploring the sights that interest you. “The Shambles” is one of the most picturesque streets in Britain with unique shops, cafés  and restaurants. York also boasts the most complete example of medieval city walls still standing in England today. Walk along these historic walls for exceptional views. Be sure to look inside York Minster Cathedral, the largest Gothic church in England.  In the late afternoon, travel through North Yorkshire to Darlington for hotel check-in and dinner.   [B,D]

Day 5   England. Hadrian’s Wall & Scotland. Jedburgh-Edinburgh.   A morning drive takes you to Hadrian’s Wall, a fascinating Roman monument nearly 2,000 years old. Stop at Chester’s Roman Fort to study a section of the 70-plus mile structure at a closer range. Shortly after crossing the border into Scotland, reach Jedburgh where you will be treated to an English Tea with cakes and finger sandwiches. Following tea, use your free time in Jedburgh to tour the Mary Queen of Scots House, see Jedburgh Abbey or do some shopping at the Woollen Mill. A late afternoon arrival at your Edinburgh hotel provides time to freshen up and relax. Dinner is independent, or join the optional Scottish  Dinner Show excursion.  [B]

Day 6   Scotland. Edinburgh.   Start the day with a guided tour of Edinburgh.  Afterward, a good place to spend your free time is along the Royal Mile in Edinburgh’s Old  Town. As you walk past the classic old houses, you may wish to visit one of the unique attractions such as the Palace of Holyroodhouse or Gladstone’s Land (the oldest standing house in Edinburgh). Enjoy an included visit to Edinburgh Castle and later this evening, the spectacular MILITARY TATOO show! [B]

Day 7   Scotland. Gretna Green & England. Liverpool. The morning stop will be at the Old Blacksmith’s Shop in the border town of Gretna Green, which became well known for “run-away weddings” officiated by the blacksmith. Starting in 1754, English couples would cross the border to be married under the liberal terms of the Scottish laws. Continuing south from Gretna Green, travel back into England and on to Liverpool, the birthplace of the Beatles. A 4:00 p.m. arrival at your Liverpool hotel provides time to explore and shop. Your tour manager will offer an optional Magical Mystery Tour excursion highlighting landmarks made famous by the Beatles. Dinner is independent tonight so that you may choose to dine at the hotel or at one of the pubs, restaurants or live music venues along Mathew Street. Here you will find the replicated Cavern Club, where the Beatles regularly played during their early years.   [B] Day 8   Wales. Snowdonia, Caernarfon, Ferry from Holyhead & Ireland. Dublin. This day is devoted to the sweeping landscape of Northern Wales. After a morning stop in Betws-y-Coed, continue through the thick pine forest into Snowdonia National Park, a mountainous region with rough but beautiful terrain. At Caernarfon, admire one of the castles built by King Edward I. A quick independent lunch will allow time to climb the castle's tower (approx £11.00 admission). After the motor coach crosses the Menai Bridge onto the Isle of Anglesey, pause to take a picture of the town with the longest name, which we abbreviate here as Llanfair P.G. For your independent dinner, you have the choice of dining while you ferry from Wales to the Republic of Ireland or at a pub upon arrival in Dublin.    [B] Day 9   Ireland. Dublin.   The capital city of the Republic of Ireland offers much to keep you busy and entertained. A local guide joins you this morning to provide insight into the city’s history and to point out the popular landmarks including Dublin Castle, Trinity College and Guinness Brewery. Entrance into St. Patrick’s Cathedral in included. Following the city tour, the afternoon is free. A popular attraction is the Book of Kells at the Trinity College Library (approx €16.00 admission), an ornately decorated and meticulously scribed edition of the Gospels from 800 A.D. Tonight's dinner is independent, or join the Irish Dinner Show excursion .     [B]

Day 10   Ireland. Dublin, Kildare, Irish Countryside, County Kerry.   The area west of Dublin has become known as the center of the Irish horse breeding and training industry. After touring the Kildare National Stud Farm, visit the Japanese Gardens of Tully House. As you countine toward western Ireland, relax and enjoy the scenes of meadows, glens and crystal-clear rivers. One of the friendly country villages along the way will provide a pleasant spot for an independent lunch. Bakeries offer tea, sandwiches, and family-owned pubs will serve up hearty Irish dishes.  Then it’s on to your County Kerry hotel, hosting dinner tonight and a two-night stay.   [B,D]

Day 11   Ireland . Ring of Kerry, Killarney, County Kerry.   Travel to the "The Ring of Kerry," for a day of spectacular coastal landscapes. The day will include several photo stops as well as lunch at one of the seaside villages. At one of the farms en route from the coast to Killarney, observe a sheep herding demonstration. Killarney offers everything from excellent restaurants to local pubs for your independent dinner. After dinner, return to our hotel.  [B,L] Day 12   Ireland. Blarney Castle, Waterford.   The morning visit to Blarney Castle is a tour highlight. Capture enchanting photos and impressive views as you walk the grounds and study this 18-feet-thick, 17th-century fortification. Learn of the magical tales associated with the castle, the most famous involving the Blarney Stone. Enjoy an independent lunch at one of the charming eateries in the village of Blarney. An early afternoon arrival in Waterford allows for time to explore the town on foot or participate in the Waterford Crystal Experience excursion. Dinner is included at the hotel.  [B,D]  Day 13   Ireland. Waterford, Ferry from Rosslare & Wales. Pembroke, Cardiff.   An early morning departure is necessary to reach the ferry in Rosslare for your crossing from Ireland to Wales. Your independent lunch will be on board.  Leaving the ferry, view the varied scenery along the coastal road between Pembrokeshire National Park and the Wye Valley. By mid-afternoon, arrive in Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. Take a stroll through the 56-acre Bute Park, relax over afternoon tea at a café, or participate in the optional Cardiff Castle excursion . Continue to our hotel for check-in and dinner. [B,D]                                                                   Day 14   England. Bath, Stonehenge, London.   Crossing the mouth of the River Severn, return to England for a tour of Bath, the elegant spa town where the Romans harnessed the natural hot springs 2,000 years ago. An included visit to the Roman Baths Museum reveals the advanced engineering developed by the Romans. Then, it is on to mysterious Stonehenge. Dating back to about 1500 B.C., one can only speculate how the stones reached the site and how they were moved into place - some weighing 45 tons! Upon arrival in London, check in and enjoy a relaxing "Farewell Dinner" at the hotel. Tomorrow, the entire day will be devoted to sightseeing in the British capital.    [B,D] Day 15   England. London.   Today begins with a guided bus tour of London’s famous landmarks such as the Royal Parks, Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament with Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and Trafalgar Square. Following the city tour, you will have a few  hours to pursue your personal interests. If you have a specific destination in mind, the Tube system (Underground) is easy, fast and economical. Your tour manager will also provide suggestions for some of the most popular attractions. Spend lunch time amid the bustling shops and street performers of Covent Garden. Or, study works of art by da Vinci, van Gogh, Rembrandt, Michelangelo and Picasso at The National Gallery. Located nearby, the London Eye Ferris wheel provides unique views of the city. In the evening, London offers numerous options for dining and entertainment. Or, join your tour manager for a London Dinner & Theatre excursion.   [B] Day 16   London-U.S.A.  We say ‘farewell’ to England and fly home today.  [B]      *Final Payment is May 5 th  *Trip Cancellation Insurance Available

About brien.

Brien Foerster was born in Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A. but grew up on the west coast of Canada. At age 11, he became fascinated with the art of the Haida and other native people, and began carving totem poles, and other related art forms, learning from Native teachers. After completing an Honours Bachelor Of Science degree, Brien decided to take up carving and sculpture full time at the age of 25. This included the creation of 15 full size totem poles, dugout canoes, masks, bowls, boxes and other Native style works.

In 1995 he moved to Maui, Hawaii, and was hired as assistant project manager for the building of the 62 foot double hull sailing canoe ( ancestor of the modern day catamaran ) Mo’okiha O Pi’ilani ( Sacred Lizard That Pierces The Heavens. ) This project lasted 2 years. Over the course of the next decade he explored Polynesia, looking for the source of the Polynesian people.

Peru became his next major area of interest. The study of the Inca culture led to his writing his first book, A Brief History Of The Incas. As of October 2014 he has written a total of 15 books; all available in e-format and paperback form via his hiddenincatours.com website, as well as www.barnesandnoble.com and www.amazon.com. All of these books are about ancient mysteries.

He also writes articles for Graham Hancock: www.grahamhancock.com, and was associated with Lloyd Pye of the Starchild project, whose geneticist is analyzing the DNA of elongated human skulls of the Peruvian Paracas culture on his behalf.

He counts amongst his colleagues Stephen Mehler, author, archaeologist, ancient Egypt oral tradition specialist and expert on crystal skulls, Christopher Dunn, engineer and author of The Giza Power Plant, Dr. Robert Schoch, geologist and expert of ancient Egypt, Hugh Newman of Megalithomania, who he co-sponsors tours with, L.A. Marzulli, and many other well known “alternative” authors and researchers.

Brien has been on 9 episodes of Ancient Aliens, numerous radio shows, including Red Ice Creations, Coast To Coast Am, Jeff Rense, Project Camelot and a new US video series called Unsealed, as well as L.A. Marzulli’s The Watchers, episodes 6 and 8. In his quest for furthering his research and presentations, Brien also explored the option of hiring assistance for his academic work, investigating ghostwriter hausarbeit kosten to gauge the costs involved in obtaining professional help with writing Hausarbeiten. This step was seen as a means to enhance the quality of his submissions, ensuring that his findings were presented in the most scholarly and comprehensive manner.

He has become an authority on the megalithic works of South America and the perplexing ancient Elongated Headed people of the area, and divides his time between Paracas Peru, and Cusco.

His explorations are now expanding into Egypt, which he visits once a year with. Here, he along with Stephen Mehler and Patricia and Yousef Awyan are avidly continuing the work of Abd’El Hakim Awyan, who spent decades finding evidence of the existence of a highly technological culture that existed in Egypt thousands of years prior to the pharaohs.

Garrett Leo, USA Portals of Ancient Peru & Bolivia Tour
For us the tour was an amazing opportunity and a privilege to explore the earth energies at an incredible number of megalithic sites. We learnt so much and feel truly grateful for what was revealed to us, and to all the organisers, especially Hugh & Brien, for putting together such a memorable and stimulating tour. It was also a joy to be in the company of so many like minded people with a deep curiosity about the ancient ancestors Chris & Marilyn G., New Zealand Peru, Nazca & Bolivia Tour feat. It felt less like a tour group and more like I had flown in to visit friends who were showing me around their turf, and for me, that was fine. I still feel I got more out of this tour than I would have with any other group. I enjoyed myself to the utmost, and was pleasantly surprised by almost everything – especially the kind people with whom I had the privilege of sharing this time. Sandy U., USA Peru, Nazca & Bolivia Tour feat. David Hatcher Childress

We recently went on the Hawaii tour and cruise with Brian Judd Tours. The tours were well organized and wonderful. Debbie and Kim took care of us. Making sure we knew what things we needed for the day and what the activities were for the day. We saw all the main attractions in Hawaii. Our hotel in Honolulu was excellent plus we had a credit to eat at their restaurant. While on the cruise ship we continued to have activities with our tour group. This was our 3rd trip with Brian Judd Tours. We always look for other trips Brian Judd Tours has available. Brian Judd is the only tour company we will use.

We recently went on the Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, Badlands Brian Judd tour. It was absolutely amazing!!! All of the hotels were fantastic, the meals were delicious, and every detail was taken care of for us. Our tour guide Steve was fantastic! At each stop he let us know where everything was located and where each trail would take you. This let us make the most of our time. I feel he truly cared that each person on the tour had a great time and his jokes were really funny!! Our bus driver was also amazing. We could just sit back and enjoy the scenery. I would have given them a higher rating if possible. Definitely will use them again. L Bear. 9/26/22

I'v taken many tours with other tour groups. This one is far better than we've been with. Not only taking the best care to see that your accommodations are the best value, but they don't treat you like a number on the wall. Making sure your having a good time, plenty to eat at good restaurants. and lots of rest and time for your self. And the BEST places to venture and see. Looking forward to traveling with these people again .. NO REGRETS !

Excellent tour to the Rose Parade! Loved visiting The Reagan Presidential Library, Warner Brothers, Universal Studios, Rodeo Drive, Santa Monica Pier, Brea Tar Pits, Chinese Theater, Hollywood Walk of Fame, LA Farmers Market, Griffith Observatory, and New Years Eve dinner at Castaways! So much for so reasonable a price. Steve Judd was an excellent tour guide and Adriaan Laurijsen was amazing at the wheel of the tour bus. Attention to details for tour member comfort and convenience was exceptional! Will definitely travel with them again!

Michigan Central Station reopening: Everything you need to know

Michigan Central Station reopens Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Starting that day, for the first time in person, the public will get a chance to see inside the six-year renovation of the historic building , which sat abandoned for decades after the Corktown train depot's closing in 1988. Ford purchased the station in 2018 from the Moroun family.

The Free Press got a peek inside the Michigan Central Station in recent weeks. Here's everything we saw, plus what to know on the reopening concert , tours and more.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

What is Michigan Central Station?

Michigan Central Station opened in 1913 in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood as one of the country’s most spectacular transportation terminals. It saw 4,000 daily passengers at its peak, but, following decades of declining rail travel, was shuttered in 1988 and sat vacant for three decades.

Ford Motor Co. bought the decaying building in 2018 and spent the next six years renovating it.

Michigan Central Station photos

Here's what Michigan Central Station looks like inside .

The before-and-after photos give you a clear picture of what the train station looked like during its early days and abandoned years, and how it compares to after the $950-million renovation. Here's a look .

When is the Michigan Central Station concert?

A free concert will celebrate the train depot's rebirth, featuring a lineup of well-known Detroit artists. It will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Roosevelt Park in front of Michigan Central Station.

The 90-minute show is part of an 11-day series of first-look events dubbed “Michigan Central OPEN." The space will accommodate 15,000 concertgoers.

Who are the Michigan Central Station concert performers?

A blockbuster, all-star celebration of Detroit music will bring  Diana Ross, Jack White, Big Sean and a host of other top names to the restored Michigan Central train station.

Eminem and his manager, Paul Rosenberg, are billed as executive producers of the Thursday night show. The concert is spearheaded by Ford Motor Co., which spent nearly $1 billion to renovate the site and unveiled the artist roster Monday morning after weeks of buildup.

Other performers include hip-hop duo Slum Village , gospel stars Kierra Sheard and the Clark Sisters , techno-house DJ Theo Parrish and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra . The show will also feature visiting artists such as Jelly Roll , Fantasia , Common and Melissa Etheridge performing tributes to the city’s rich music heritage.

Branded as “Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central,” the event will stream live on Peacock, then air Sunday on NBC as a prime-time special.

Here's more from Brian McCollum.

How can I watch the Michigan Central Station concert elsewhere?

The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) will host watch parties at the following parks:

  • Campus Martius Park, 800 Woodward Ave., with capacity for 5,000 people.
  • The Corner Ballpark at 1680 Michigan Ave., with capacity for 2,500 people.

Local businesses will also host watch parties, including:

  • Alpino Detroit - Michigan Central Opening Reception Hour at 1426 Bagley St.
  • Armando’s Mexican Restaurant - MC Open Watch Part at 4242 Vernor Hwy.
  • La Jalisciense Supermercado & Taqueria at 3923 Vernor Hwy.
  • Mexican Town Bakery at 4300 Vernor Hwy.
  • Batch Brewing Company at 1400 Porter St.
  • Black Ginger (Housed within the Trumbull and Porter Hotel) at 1331 Trumbull STE 100.
  • McShane’s Irish Pub at 1460 Michigan Ave.
  • Mercury Burger Bar at 2163 Michigan Ave.
  • Momento Gelato and Coffee at 2120 Trumbull.
  • Slows BBQ at 2138 Michigan Ave.

When are the Michigan Central Station tours?

Free public tours of the Michigan Central Station begin Friday, June 7, and continue through Sunday, June 16 . Registration for these tours is sold out. These "OPEN Houses" from June 7-16 will allow visitors to experience the grandeur of the restored station through an "immersive" tour. Visitors can expect to explore various activations, storytelling and art throughout the ground floor of the train station.

In addition, OPEN Outdoors will take place outside of the train station on the front lawn of the renovated Book Depository building, now known as Newlab.

After June 16, the first floor will be open for tours on Fridays and Saturdays through the summer. Expanded hours will later be announced for the fall, when the first phase of commercial activations opens to the public, according to a news release.

Here's more .

How do I get to Michigan Central Station?

Major events can drive plenty of traffic in the Corktown area. Several  roads will close  throughout the reopening event, but visitors can choose from nearby street parking, free parking in the 1501 Wabash St. garage on a first-come, first-served basis, riding the bus through the Detroit Department of Transportation, e-scooters or ridesharing.

What's next for Michigan Central Station after reopening?

After reopening festivities, Michigan Central will begin a "phased reactivation" of the train station for several months as restaurant, retail and other commercial and community-focused partners fill the space.

A tour bus backed into a totem pole in downtown Juneau, but it’s still standing

June 4, 2024 by Yvonne Krumrey, KTOO

brian tours

Last week, an Alaska Coach Tours bus backed into a totem pole at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum.

The pole, one of the oldest in downtown Juneau, has a small dent now. City engineers have made sure that it’s still stable. But for the son of the man who carved the pole 57 years ago, the accident was a reminder of what the piece means to him — and to his father’s legacy.

The next day, Brian Wallace stood on the sidewalk near the museum. He pointed at skid marks where the bus jumped the curb while turning around on the narrow, two-way street.

“Well, I was assuming the worst,” he said.

His father, Amos Wallace , carved the pole when Brian was a kid.

The pole, also known as a kootéeyaa , has stood outside the museum for over 50 years. Wallace said he remembers helping his dad with it, pulling large patches of bark off the felled tree.

Amos died twenty years ago.

Wallace said he rushed to the museum the moment he had a break from work after hearing about the accident. He’s glad the damage was minimal, but he said the pole is irreplaceable.

“The dent is not that big, but, well, if you dent a little Volkswagen Bug, no big deal,” he said. “You can get it fixed. This is one of a kind. If something terrible happens to it, it’s gone. A part of my dad’s legacy would be gone.”

This wasn’t the first time Wallace has seen someone damage the pole.

“Twenty years ago, I was driving by and I saw a couple of clowns who had climbed up on this — they were getting their family photo taken. I slammed the brakes right there and got on my truck and came and got them off,” he said

He pointed to another dent on the pole.

“And that was knocked off by one of the boys that was on top of it,” Wallace said.

Last summer, Sealaska Heritage Institute got reports that cruise tourists were climbing on some of the new poles along the Seawalk. They put up signs about the importance and sacredness of kootéeyaa to Southeast Alaska Native people.

For Wallace, this pole matters on a deeply personal level, too.

“This thing is real near and dear to me. I remember dad carving it when I was six years old in 1967,” he said. “And it’s a great sense of pride for me every time I come by and have a look at that. Yeah, my dad did that.”

City Museum Director Beth Weigel said Alaska Coach Tours representatives came to the museum and told her the driver was trying to get to the Alaska State Museum and got confused, then tried to turn around when they realized the error.

“We’re really grateful to the community for alerting us immediately to what they witnessed, and that we’re grateful to the tour company for being so responsive and helpful in resolving any issues that have resulted from the accident,” she said.

A representative from Alaska Coach Tours said in an email that the driver reported the accident to management.

Professional golfer Grayson Murray, 30, dies by suicide after withdrawing from Charles Schwab Challenge

Murray was a two-time winner on the pga tour.

grayson-murray-cwc-g.png

Professional golfer Grayson Murray has died. He was 30 years old. Murray's death comes after he withdrew Friday during the second round of the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, citing an illness.

A day after Murray's death rocked the larger sporting world, his parents announced in a statement through the PGA Tour that he died by suicide.

"We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support," Eric and Terry Murray said. "Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now."

An undeniable talent, Murray was the second-youngest golfer in history to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour before turning eventually pro in 2015. He bounced up and down between the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour over the course of his career, becoming a polarizing figure at times because of frequent outbursts on the course.

Still, his potential consistently flashed as he won twice on the PGA Tour -- capturing the 2017 Barbasol Championship and 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii -- and three times on the Korn Ferry Tour.

When he won the Sony Open, it seemed as if Murray had turned a corner after battling anxiety, depression and alcohol abuse throughout his young career. He said in January that he had been sober since early 2023. He also shared that he was unprepared for life as a pro when he first got out of college and began traveling.

"Yes, I would drink during tournament weeks," Murray said after his Sony Open win. "It was my outlet. I thought I was invincible coming out here as a 22-year-old, winning as a rookie, played three days hungover when I won. Best thing and worst thing that ever happened to me was winning my rookie year -- but also feeling like I was invincible."

Murray cited his faith and his fiancee as helping ground him, and he spoke about his road to recovery.

"It took me a long time to get to this point," he said. "… I'm a different man now. I would not be in this position right now today if I didn't put that drink down eight months ago."

Murray added: "People who don't know me, I'll have to show it through my actions, and they'll get back on Grayson's side. My demeanor is so much better. It's really a lot of fun now. I really don't live and die by a golf shot anymore. I'm not going to sit here and say it's going to be all glory and roses, but it's going to be a lot better."

The PGA Tour considered postponing play at the Charles Schwab Challenge as the golf world was rocked by Murray's death . However, his parents insisted the tournament continue as scheduled as it was what their son would have wanted.

"We were devastated to learn -- and are heartbroken to share -- that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words," said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan in a Saturday statement. "The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

"I reached out to Grayson's parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes."

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray attended Wake Forest, East Carolina and Arizona State where he played golf before turning pro. In 141 career PGA Tour starts, Murray had 10 top-10 finishes, including those two victories.

The PGA Tour has sent grief counselors to both tournament sites this week and made others available virtually for its members.

Gabby Petito's Mom Forgives Brian Laundrie for Killing Her Daughter But Not His "Evil" Mother

Nichole schmidt, mother of slain van life vlogger gabby petito, relayed a message to her late killer, brian laundrie, and his mom..

Gabby Petito 's mother says she forgives her daughter's murderer. But his mom? Not at all.

The 22-year-old, a van life vlogger, was found strangled to death  in the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming in 2021 after a road trip with fiancé  Brian Laundrie , 23, who later confessed to her killing and took his own life.

"I speak for myself here when I say Brian, I forgive you," Gabby's mother Nichole Schmidt said at a panel at CrimeCon 2024 in Nashville May 31, Fox News  reported. "I needed to release myself from the chains of anger and bitterness, and I refuse to let your despicable act define the rest of my life."

Nichole then turning the attention to Brian's mother Roberta Laundrie , who, along with husband  Christopher Laundrie , Gabby's family had accused in a since-settled civil lawsuit of trying to help their son cover up their daughter's murder , which they denied.

"As for you, Roberta, and I call you out individually because you are evidently the mastermind that shattered your family and mine with your evil ways. I see no empathy in your eyes," Gabby's mother said. "No remorse in your heart and no willingness to take responsibility for your actions."

She added, per People , "You do not deserve forgiveness."

E! News has reached out to a Laundrie family rep for comment and has not heard back.

Weeks before Gabby's body was found, her fiancé returned to the Florida home they shared with his parents. After her family reported her missing,  police named Brian a person of interest  and he  went on the run  and took his own life . Near his remains , authorities found his notebook with a  confession that he had "ended" Gabby's life  and a backpack carrying a letter from his mother, which included the title "Burn After Reading" and an offer to bring him a shovel and trash bags should he "need to dispose of a body."

Schmidt appeared at CrimeCon 2024 with Gabby's stepmother  Tara Petito , with both wearing black T-shirt bearing the words "Burn After Reading." The family is selling the tees on the Gabby Petito Foundation website to promote domestic violence awareness.

The letter from Brian's mom, obtained by NBC News , was made public in 2023 as part of a civil lawsuit Gabby's parents filed a year earlier against the Laundries for emotional distress in connection with her death. Roberta had said the note pre-dated the couple's 2021 road trip and that she meant to reach out to her son while they "were experiencing a difficult period" in their relationship, according to an affidavit obtained by CNN .

In the  lawsuit, which was settled out of court  earlier this year, the travel vlogger's family alleged that Brian's parents knew Gabby was dead weeks before her body was located but lied to them and the public by sharing messages that expressed hope she'd be found.

"While Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt were desperately searching for information concerning their daughter," stated the filing, obtained by E! News, "Christopher Laundrie and Roberta Laundrie were keeping the whereabouts of Brian Laundrie secret, and it is believed were making arrangements for him to leave the country."

At the time of the filing, the Laundries' lawyer said in a statement to E! News , "Assuming everything the Petitos allege in their lawsuit is true, which we deny, this lawsuit does not change the fact that the Laundries had no obligation to speak to Law Enforcement or any third-party including the Petito family."

Mary Trump Expects a Post-Conviction “Revenge Tour”

By Brian Stelter

Image may contain Donald Trump Matt Slauson Accessories Formal Wear Tie Lamp Adult Person Indoors and Chair

In a special episode of Inside the Hive, host Brian Stelter discusses the Donald Trump guilty verdict with Mary Trump, a writer , psychologist, and niece of the former president and now convicted felon. “This isn’t a victory for Democrats. It’s a victory for the rule of law in America,” said Mary Trump, who stressed that “the attacks on the rule of law have to be taken very, very seriously.”

“And that has been, perhaps, the most devastating part of this process in New York City,” she continued. “On the one hand, and incontrovertibly, this trial was run almost impeccably by a very professional judge who was very even-handed. Clearly the jury took it seriously. All of the court officers, the security—everybody just acted like total pros, except, of course, for the defendant.” Not to mention, she said, Donald Trump had a highly paid defense team and “there was due process at every step of the way.”

“But then you have members of Congress not coming to New York to support him, but coming to New York to undermine the American people’s faith in the rule of law, just as they’ve been undermining the American people’s faith in the concept of free and fair elections,” she said, adding, “This is the beginning of what will be yet another very dark, very stressful, very trying period in American history.”

Mary Trump also described how her uncle has long suppressed feelings of humiliation, or “feeling like a loser,” and why she expects him to lash out even more post-conviction. “I think that’s one of the scary things about this verdict,” she said. “He doesn’t play by the rules, he never feels like the rules apply to him, but now it’s like, what does he have to lose? He’s already been convicted, and he will be on a revenge tour.”

Celebrating 10 years of Hideki Matsuyama magic

Change Text Size

Brian Harman, the reigning Open champion, tells a funny tale of how he and fellow PGA TOUR winner Matt Every made a poor error in judgement on a young Asian golfer more than a decade ago. In contrast, Jack Nicklaus, holder of a record 18 major victories, knew the golf world was in for a special treat with the emergence of a rising star.

Paired together in the opening two rounds of the 2012 Sony Open in Hawaii alongside one of several Japanese sponsor exemptions that week, Harman’s first impression was similar to Every’s thoughts – “Don’t think this kid’s got it.”

“So we're playing with this kid, and he's very nervous and there are photographers all over the place," said Harman. "He dribbled a couple off the tee boxes and Matt and I made the comment, don't think this kid's got it. He's like nervous beyond all belief. Missed the cut. Didn't play good at all. Don't think this guy is gonna make it … Hideki Matsuyama."

Yup, the very same Hideki Matsuyama, who is now Asia’s winningest golfer on the PGA TOUR with nine career victories to date – four more than Harman and Every combined – and the proud owner of a green jacket following an historic triumph at the 2021 Masters Tournament.

“So Matt and I would joke about that," Harman laughed. "Yeah, we missed on that one.”

This week marks Matsuyama’s 10 th anniversary of his maiden PGA TOUR victory at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, an event hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. The octogenarian vividly remembers Matsuyama’s glorious march to victory at Muirfield Village and how he instantly liked what he saw.

“When he won, I said, he's going to win a lot of golf tournaments and he's going win some majors,” said Nicklaus. “He was a good player before he got here, obviously, or he wouldn't have been here. I knew that, we all knew that,” added the 84-year-old on Matsuyama, who was a two-time Asia-Pacific Amateur champion before turning professional.

During his prime, Nicklaus, winner of 73 PGA TOUR victories, battled against Japanese top golfers including Isao Aoki, Jumbo Ozaki and Naomichi “Joe” Ozaki but he rates Matsuyama as the “best of the bunch.” The Golden Bear marvels especially at how Matsuyama has established himself in the U.S. despite challenges with the language barrier, along with food and cultural differences.

“It's pretty difficult for someone, particularly coming from a country where the language is difficult and basically live and play here all year long," said Nicklaus. "He's done really well, he's won the Masters, won several other tournaments. He's going to win more majors. He's just too good a player.”

From the career breakthrough at Nicklaus’s tournament, Matsuyama has since cemented his stature as Asia’s most decorated golfer. A stunning victory at the Tiger Woods-hosted Genesis Invitational in February, where he closed with a final round 62 at Riviera to overcome a six-shot deficit and win by three, saw him break a tie with Korea’s K.J. Choi at eight titles. As of this week, the 32-year-old Matsuyama has also enjoyed seven runner-up finishes and 60 top-10 outings from 255 official starts. This tallies to over $50 million in career earnings, ranking him 12 th in the all-time earnings list on the PGA TOUR.

Hideki Matsuyama’s Round 4 highlights from Genesis

After being tasked with the responsibility to take Matsuyama under his wing at the 2013 Presidents Cup where they partnered across four matches, Australia’s Adam Scott became a life-long admirer of Matsuyama’s success and influence on the game in Japan. The 43-year-old Scott, a 14-time PGA TOUR winner, had a front row seat when Matsuyama prevailed at Muirfield Village as they were paired together in the final round.

“I was pulling for him as soon as it was like, Adam, you're not going to win today with a few holes to go," Scott recalled. "I really wanted to see Hideki take that step and win a big one. So he played great down the stretch and got it done. It was his time."

Time did not stand still as Matsuyama went on to win twice in each of 2016 and 2017, and rose to a career high No. 2 on the Official World Golf Ranking. Back and neck injuries slowed down his march until Matsuyama saw green at Augusta National when he claimed a momentous triumph at the 2021 Masters Tournament, making him the first Japanese male major champion. Such was the magnitude of the moment that the Japanese government used its national alert system, usually activated for natural disasters and emergency warnings, to send out a notice of congratulations after Matsuyama holed his final putt.

Japanese fans react to Hideki Matsuyama’s Masters victory

Like Tiger Woods, Matsuyama’s rise to sporting fame meant that every shot and stride taken on the golf course is closely followed by Japanese media, which Scott appreciates the weight of expectations that Matsuyama has to carry for a golf-mad nation. “He's dealt with a lot of pressure from this country really well,” said Scott.

“And even though I'm sure he wants to achieve more, I think his achievements are really phenomenal," Scott added. "His consistency, I think, is probably a little overlooked these days. You know how well he's played these first 10 years of his career, year after year, and of course, resulting in a big win, winning the Masters and being the first Japanese to do that is a massive thing. Hideki is one of the biggest sports stars in Japan. He’s a needle mover, and, as they should be so proud of him and what he's been doing.”

There is a stroke of good fortune involved in Matsuyama’s climb from his amateur days to the play-for-pay ranks. When he lifted the first of two Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship titles in 2010, he initially wasn’t part of the Japanese squad but as the event was being staged in Saitama, the host nation was granted four additional spots, one of which Matsuyama got. “I was very fortunate to receive one of the additional invitations," he said. "Winning the 2010 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship was life changing."

Matsuyama’s ascension has no doubt been one of golf’s feel-good stories for Asian sports, and his journey tracks back to the early days when his father, Mikio, first put a club in his hands as a child. Many believe his nine PGA TOUR victories feels like he is now making the turn in what is already an illustrious career, which also features eight Japan Golf Tour titles.

The stunning 62 fired at The Genesis Invitational wasn’t his lowest final round score en route to a famous victory. At Firestone in 2017, he lit up the golf course with a birdie-fest 61 to lift a second World Golf Championships title, a moment which made Tokyo Olympic Games gold medalist, Xander Schauffele, sit up and take notice of Matsuyama’s prodigious talents.

Hideki Matsuyama shoots 61 en route to victory at Bridgestone

“I think the first time I was sort of like, ‘holy smokes, this guy is unbelievable’ is when he shot like 61 at Firestone," said Schauffele. "I remember sitting there with Austin (his caddie) and saying, like, we thought like 68 was a good round. But he shot 61. He just works his butt off, has a good team around him, and he keeps his head down and trucks through all the pressure and expectations and all those things that come with being a top player."

While Matsuyama is tipped to add to his silverware collection, the trickle effect in the Japanese golf culture where youngsters look up to him as a “senpai”, or mentor, has been gathering momentum. Isao Aoki, the first golfer from Japan to win on the PGA TOUR in 1983, anticipates his heroics will inspire a new era for the country, which has seen the emergence of rising talents such as Ryo Hisatsune, Keita Nakajima, Taiga Semikawa and Takumi Kanaya. “It's the beginning of a new era and I am sure there will be a lot of golfers who'd like to follow in Matsuyama's steps,” Aoki predicts.

Isao Aoki cards eagle to win 1983 Hawaiian Open

Shigeki Maruyama, a three-time PGA TOUR winner, added: “I was able to make it to the PGA TOUR because I saw Aoki-san win the Hawaiian Open when I was a kid, and I wanted to be like him. Aoki-san hadn't won in mainland U.S., which I was able to accomplish. History gets better little by little. Now that Hideki has won a major title, I'm convinced one of younger golfers who gets motivated by him will become the next major champion from Japan some day. I'm expecting Hideki to stack up more wins going forward, inspiring Japanese golfers to dream even bigger. I think he's capable of winning 10 or even 15 tournaments.”

One of the many Japan’s young talents who has been driven by Matsuyama’s success is Keita Nakajima, who is on track to play his way onto the PGA TOUR via the DP World Tour which rewards the top-10 non-exempt players with dual memberships with the PGA TOUR. “Ten years ago, I was only 14 and I watched him win the (Memorial) tournament and that made me really want to play with him on the PGA TOUR,” said Nakajima, a former World Amateur No. 1 and currently ranked 16 th on the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai rankings.

Despite the adoration and fame, Matsuyama has chosen to stay out of the spotlight whenever he is not showcasing his tenacity and talents inside the ropes while fighting for tournament wins to bring glory and honour to his native country. He remains modest of his successes, and prefers to use it as fuel to push forward instead.

“I just want to work hard and play well, rather than think about what I had done,” said Matsuyama. “My life has changed gradually after being on TOUR for 10 years. In that sense, it is fulfilling right now. I want to keep working hard for another 10 or 20 years.

“When I see some younger players playing well on the global stage now, I feel like they believe they can also win, which is very important to me. At the same time, I want to work hard to win more majors and it would be great if we could compete against each other for a championship someday.

“I am just fortunate my hard work has paid off, so there are no secrets.”
