Having my first real break from school since, i have been trying to fix everything I can, and just got it past inspection with flying colors. When you want to try the cruise control, put your left toe on the underside of the clutch pedal and pull toward you a little, then press the cruise stalk while holding the pedal. If cruise engages, but shuts off when you stop holding the pedal, simply adjust the switch. When you are not driving the car, of course. R1ckM.

How to remove cruise control
Remove the sensor and the bracket. If at all possible, put the mounting hardware for each componenet in seperate storage bags. The other part of the wiring harness should go to the brain. It is located near the ECU behind the glove compartment. Again, seperate and save the mounting bracket and hardware.

The main actuator is in the engine compartment, just ahead of the top of the driver's side wheel well. It has a cable coming from it to the throttle body. When the cruise control's activated, it's what adjusts the speed. If this is kaput, no cruise control. The cruise control lever on the sterring column.
Replacing Cruise Control Cable
To begin the removal process, we need to dismantle the actuator. To do that, we need to separate it from its mounting bracket by undoing the three M6 nuts that hold it in place. You can just about see them in this picture. Once the bracket is off, you can turn the actuator upside down to reveal the simple screws that hold the cover in place.

DIY: Tightening your throttle cable (and cruise control)!
First, do a quick check for slack in the cable by lightly pressing on the pedal while looking into the engine bay. If you can depress the pedal without the assembly atop the throttle body moving, you have slack. Take a look at the end of the cable: You'll see there's a plastic knurled thumbwheel and a super-tiny nut.
Cruise control stopped working
Don't force travel past the limits. If these parts work OK then you can check the potentiometer at pins 5, 6, and 8. You can pry off the round black inspection cover and you will see the pinion. No need to open the cover - just look through the inspection hole. 09-25-2017, 08:51 PM #9.

E30 Cruise control problems
Hello. When trying to engage my cruise control at speeds above 50mph, the car drops 10mph before the unit engages. After which, it surges intermittently in attempt to keep speed. A couple of times it just flat out accelerated the whole time until I disengaged it. At speeds between 30-40mph it seems to work okay. I have replaced the VDO unit with another used one and it seems to have had no effect.
