Def Leppard and Journey Unite for Massive U.S. Stadium Tour
- By Andy Greene
Andy Greene
Journey and Def Leppard are teaming up for a massive U.S. summer stadium tour, and they’re bringing Cheap Trick, Steve Miller Band, and Heart with them at various spots along the way. Expect a night of mega Eighties hits like “Don’t Stop Believin,” “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” “Faithfully,” “Photograph” and (depending on where you live) “The Flame,” “Abracadabra,” and “These Dreams.”
“Having just completed a sensational 18 month run promoting our Diamond Star Halos album,” Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott said in a statement, “we shall hit the boards running with a brand-new stage show and set of songs that will celebrate specific parts of our history. We may even have a surprise or two up our sleeves … so, wanna join us !??! … See you in the summer !”
Journey guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain have spent the past year battling each other in the court system and the press, but it somehow hasn’t slowed down the band’s touring machine. They crisscrossed the country with Toto last year, and they’re playing arenas together again in the early months of 2024.

Def Leppard and Journey Announce Co-Headlining 2024 Tour with Support from Cheap Trick, Heart and Steve Miller Band
The rock legends are teaming up for a summer 2024 North American tour
Ross Halfin
Fans are in for a rock of ages next summer.
On Thursday, rock legends Def Leppard and Journey announced they’re hitting the road on a co-headlining stadium tour. The ‘80s favorites, who previously teamed up on a 2018 joint tour, will be setting out across North America in summer 2024 — and they’re making it a show classic rock fans will remember by bringing along fellow icons Cheap Trick , Heart and Steve Miller Band on select dates.
The 23-city tour begins on July 6 in St. Louis, Missouri and continues through Sept. 8 when they wrap up in Denver, Colorado. Along the way, the two Rock and Hall of Fame inductees will bring their show to stadiums in major cities like Chicago, Nashville, Boston, Toronto, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and more.

Cheap Trick will help kick off and close out the tour, while Steve Miller Band will play the majority of shows and Heart will join them on three dates.
The tour comes after the “Pour Some Sugar on Me” band played another nostalgic tour throughout 2023 with fellow heavy metal group Mötley Crüe .
While the band featuring frontman Joe Elliott , drummer Rick Allen, guitarist Vivian Campbell, guitarist Phil Collen and bassist Rick Savage and is set to play their fan-favorite hits, their recent run of shows follows the 2022 release of their 12th studio album Diamond Star Halos .
As for the “Don’t Stop Believin’” group, they’ll join up with Def Leppard after playing their Freedom Tour , which celebrates their 50th anniversary as a band and the recent release of 2022’s Freedom . The six-piece made up of keyboardist Jonathan Cain, drummer Deen Castronovo, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, bassist Todd Jensen, guitarist Neal Schon, vocalist Arnel Pineda first kicked off the Freedom Tour back in 2022 and they'll play its last leg across North America in 2024 from February to late April.
The Def Leppard frontman, 64, shared a statement in a press release about the upcoming tour. “DEF LEPPARD and JOURNEY will be reuniting and hitting the road together for the Summer Stadium Tour with Steve Miller, Cheap Trick & Heart on select shows, which makes for an amazing night of music !”
The “Love Bites” singer continued, “Having just completed a sensational 18 month run promoting our Diamond Star Halos album, we shall hit the boards running with a brand-new stage show and set of songs that will celebrate specific parts of our history. We may even have a surprise or two up our sleeves … so, wanna join us !??! … See you in the summer !”

Journey also shared a joint statement about the 2024 shows. “We are thrilled to be back on the road in 2024 with so many good friends as part of this tour. No matter which city you come to this will be an amazing night of music!” the rockers said.
Two presales kick off the ticket sales to Def Leppard and Journey’s summer 2024 tour. An official fan presale begins on Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. ET, which fans can sign up for at www.defleppardjourney2024.com now. DEF LEPPARD STADIUM TOUR — MORE UPDATES:
- Def Leppard promised a “drastically different” show for the 2024 summer stadium tour. (A refreshed setlist is most welcome and long overdue.)
Quote from Phil Collen’s interview with Ultimate Classic Rock :
“We changed the whole set. You know, there’s a whole screen [production] and we’ve been using pretty much the same stuff for like 12 years. So we’ve changed it completely. The stage show is drastically different. It’s going to take a lot of energy. There’s going to be a lot of running around. So I’m working out, trying to get the stamina up and all of that.”
If the band’s recent Sirius XM Garage performance is any indication, Def Leppard’s Stadium Tour setlist could shake things up a bit.
Here is Def Leppard’s Sirius XM Garage setlist:
Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) Photograph Too Late for Love Die Hard the Hunter Kick Just Like 73 Foolin’ Billy’s Got a Gun Comin’ Under Fire Rock of Ages Hysteria Pour Some Sugar on Me
Here is the band’s Sirius XM Garage live debut of their new single “Just Like 73”:
- Def Leppard has a brand new song titled “Just Like 73” (read more about it and listen to the track here ) — just in time for the band’s 2024 Stadium Tour (and refreshed concert setlist). Rick Savage revealed the news tidbit during an interview with Stereogum :
“This is hot off the press, but we have just mastered a one-off single, and playing on it is Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine, who was a huge fan back in the day when he was growing up. High ‘n’ Dry was like his Bible. He’s playing a solo on our new single, it’s going to be out there pretty soon.”
Sav recently posted on his Instagram account that the band had been working on a new setlist for the 2024 Stadium Tour with Journey, adding that it will include “a brand new song” and, in acknowledgment of Def Leppard’s new 40th anniversary Pyromania release , “we’ll be throwing a few more of those tracks in as well.” He also teased that their updated Stadium Tour setlist would include “a song we’ve never played live before.”
- In a recent interview with Nikki Blakk , Rick Allen explained why The Summer Stadium Tour no longer includes Motley Crue, instead featuring Def Leppard co-headlining with Journey (again):
“… We’d been on the road, on and off, with Motley Crue for about 18 months, and we felt as though we kind of covered pretty much everywhere there was to. We started off in the States, went off to Europe, did South America, came back to the States and then Japan and Australia. And we just felt as though we’d been everywhere. We would always wanna tour with those guys, but we just felt as though it was time for each of us to move on.
“Now, we toured with Journey, I forget exactly what year — my memory is terrible; I think 2018, ’17 or ’18 — and it was awesome. I mean, those songs are timeless. And we just thought that it would be great to reach out to them and see if they wanted to do it again. And, lo and behold, they did. So, we just feel as though with a band like us, with a band like Journey, and a band like Steve Miller. I mean, you’re gonna be sitting there in the audience listening to hit songs all night. So, we just feel as though that’s really a good deal, and I think people are really gonna enjoy it.”

Def Leppard, Journey and Steve Miller Announce Summer 2024 Tour
Def Leppard and Journey will embark on a U.S. stadium tour in 2024 with special guest Steve Miller Band . Heart and Cheap Trick will also appear in select markets.
The 23-date trek kicks off July 6 in St. Louis and is currently set to conclude Sept. 8 in Denver. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, Dec. 15. You can see the complete list of tour dates below.
"Having just completed a sensational 18-month run promoting our Diamond Star Halos album, we shall hit the boards running with a brand-new stage show and set of songs that will celebrate specific parts of our history," Def Leppard vocalist Joe Elliott said in a press release. "We may even have a surprise or two up our sleeves...so, wanna join us? See you in the summer!”
“We are thrilled to be back on the road in 2024 with so many good friends as part of this tour," Journey shared in their own statement. "No matter which city you come to this will be an amazing night of music!"
Journey and Def Leppard toured together most recently in 2018 , pairing up for a lengthy 60-show run which was one of the most successful packages of the year.
When it wrapped up, Journey and Def Leppard had played in front of over a million fans with ticket sales of more than $97 million. “We’re going to want to put our feet up a little bit, because it’s been a hell of a run," Elliott told UCR in 2018 . "I’m going to want a bit of time with the kids and the wife and the mom and my friends and my record collection and my two cats and my bike.”
The dates with Def Leppard and Journey are Heart's first officially announced concerts for 2024. The band has been inactive since 2019's Love Alive outing, which visited nearly 40 cities. But they'll get their feet wet with a trio of shows this month including a New Year's Eve engagement in Seattle. Both Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson have remained active in the interim, focusing on solo work and touring with their respective bands.
Earlier this year, Ann shared that she and Nancy were working on new music together. She described it as being "closer to what you would have heard us originally do in the '70s, late '70s. So it's really fun, it's just exciting and inspiring." It would be the first new material from Heart since 2016's Beautiful Broken .

DEF LEPPARD/JOURNEY Announce Joint 2024 North American Stadium Tour
Def Leppard and Journey have just announced their 2024 North American co-headline stadium tour dates.
Def Leppard ended The World Tour finished in Melbourne, Australia on 14th November ending two years of touring with Motley Crue as co-headliners.
Now that the touring with Motley Crue has ended the band have just announced a new tour for 2024 with Journey having posted a short teaser video last night previewing a "Big Announcement".
That announcement has now been made and all the shows have now been fully revealed with the dates.
After playing only 9 shows in the USA in 2023 the band are now back to playing a full on North American tour.
Def Leppard x Journey The Summer Stadium Tour 2024
The tour starts on 6th July 2024 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO.
It will end on 8th September in Denver, CO at Coors Field.
There are 23 shows in all. 21 of which were played in 2022.
Other cities which can be seen in full below include the "already-listed-on-Ticketmaster" shows in San Antonio, TX and Denver, CO.
And all those revealed by the venues last night in their teaser posts.
Co-Headliner Journey
Journey return as the main touring partner for 2024 six years on from the very successful 2018 North American tour.
A tour which saw the band played 60 shows together including 10 outdoor stadiums and two night stands at arenas in Los Angeles and Houston.
That tour followed on from the equally successful YEAH! tour of 2006 where they played sell out arenas shows over three different tour legs across the USA.
Journey currently have a 50th anniversary tour of arenas scheduled from February to April 2024 in the USA/Canada with special guests Toto.
It appears this joint tour news was revealed way back in May 2022 by Neal Schon who told an interviewer - "We’re already talking about going back out with Def Leppard, and that’s looking pretty solid that we’ll go into stadiums in ’24."
So it seems this tour has been in the works for over two years.
Opening Acts
Joining Def Leppard and Journey at most shows will be The Steve Miller Band who play with Def Leppard for the first time.
Cheap Trick also return for a few shows having played with the band in the UK/Ireland in December 2018 and at a handful of stadium shows in the USA.
They also toured with the band in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009.
Heart also return for a few shows and last toured with the band in 2011 on the Mirrorball tour in USA and Australia/New Zealand.
Although Phoenix, AZ was played in 2022 the band will visit a new venue this time.
Chase Field will be played instead of State Farm Stadium swapping NFL for MLB.

A new tour website has gone live set up by tour promoters AEG Presents @ defleppardjourney2024.com
