Watch: Van Halen Kick Off 2015 Summer Tour With Rare Tracks + Never-Before-Performed Songs

Two days before Van Halen kicked off their 2015 summer tour in Seattle, Wolfgang Van Halen wrote on Twitter , “This is by far the best setlist I’ve made for us. Can’t wait for everyone to hear it. Ya’ll are gonna flip.” And flip, they did. The first show of the tour was last night (July 5) and the band performed live song debuts and rare tracks throughout the night. We've included videos of some of their songs above and below.

The first tune of the night was “Light Up the Sky,” a song from their 1979 album Van Halen II . Ultimate Classic Rock reports that the group hasn’t played that track live for 35 years (enjoy it above).

During the show, the band also performed two tracks live for the first time ever, one was their song “Drop Dead Legs,” off their album 1984 and the other was “Dirty Movies,” from their 1981 disc Fair Warning . You can watch them below. The group also performed “Feel Your Love Tonight” and “In a Simple Rhyme.” The night included their classic hits and fan-favorites too, but the rare and never-performed-live songs were certainly a treat. See the full setlist from the Seattle concert below.

After the gig, Wolfgang posted on Twitter that he thought the show was “killer” and “amazing” and then tweeted “How bout that setlist?” This is just the beginning for the group. They head to Portland, Ore., tomorrow (7/7) and are slated to travel throughout the United States and Canada playing shows through Oct. 10, when they wind things down at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Looking at Van Halen’s Final 2015 North American Dates & Typical Setlist

September 15, 2015

Loud guitars, memorable hooks and nostalgia have filled arenas across the U.S. and Canada along Van Halen’s 2015 North American tour. The iconic stadium rockers have taken the continent by storm and have just nine dates remaining through the beginning of October. Don’t expect tickets to be cheap if perusing the secondary market, however – Van Halen tickets on TicketIQ are still averaging over $200 over the band’s final two weeks on the road.

A September 25 stop at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Texas serves as the most expensive show left. Van Halen tickets in Texas currently average $279.74 and the get-in price is $50. Two other shows also average above $200 – back-to-back gigs at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 2 and 4 average a $201.38 and $263.02 ticket, respectively.

Van Halen is touring in support of 2012’s A Different Kind of Truth , their first full-length record to feature original vocalist David Lee Roth since 1984 . Their summer run through North America is their first since the conclusion of the “A Different Kind of Truth” Tour in July of 2013.

Thinking of seeing the band perform over their final dates? Check out the average Van Halen setlist along their 2015 North American Tour below:

Previewing the average van halen setlist ahead of 2015 u.s. tour.

It hasn’t been all smiles in the Van Halen camp in the weeks leading up to the band’s 2015 summer tour, but the band is still slated to embark on its three-month run through the U.S. next week. Earlier this month iconic guitarist Eddie Van Halen sounded off on lead singer David Lee Roth in a lengthy interview with Billboard, claiming that the vocalist “needs to grow up” and “doesn’t want to be [his] friend”.

Despite the apparent animosity, the band will play its 42 dates through the beginning of October and is drawing big demand for tickets on the secondary market in the process. According to TicketIQ,  the average secondary price for Van Halen tickets across its U.S. tour is now $205.50.  Three of those dates will average above $300 –  August 9  at PNC Bank Arts Center ($316.61),  September 25  at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion ($310.10) and September 23at Gexa Energy Pavilion ($301.94).

Even Van Halen’s cheapest dates are generating lofty secondary price. The least expensive gig comes on August 23at Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania, where tickets own a secondary average of $126.79 and get-in price is $35. Other cheapest-priced shows include July 7 at Amphitheater Northwest ($134.25/avg.),  July 30  at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion ($144.11/avg.) and July 14 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater ($147.34/avg.).

Hoping to get out to a show this summer? Expect the band to pull plenty from its exhaustive list of hits. Below was Van Halen’s average setlist on its most recent tour, 2013’s “A Different Kind of Truth”, per  setlist.fm :

Van Halen Announce 2015 North American Tour

Van Halen  will tour North America this summer and fall in support of their upcoming concert album,  Tokyo Dome Live in Concert . The tour will kick off in Seattle on July 5 and wrap up in Los Angeles on Oct. 2.

In between, the band will play more than three dozen shows across the continent, with stops in Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto, Dallas and Phoenix. You can see the full list of tour dates below.

David Lee Roth  -- who sang on the band's most recent studio LP, 2012's  A Different Kind of Truth  -- will be on board for the tour, which will include the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band as the opening act on all dates.

In addition to the upcoming tour, the band will perform a concert on  Jimmy Kimmel Live  on March 30 and 31, the day  Tokyo Dome Live in Concert  comes out. The upcoming live set -- the group's first with Roth -- includes 23 songs from the seven albums the band recorded with its original singer. The album documents a show recorded on June 21, 2013, in Tokyo.

On the same day that record is released, Van Halen are reissuing remastered versions of  Van Halen  and  1984 , with new versions of  Van Halen II ,  Women and Children First ,  Fair Warning  and  Diver Down  to follow in the spring.

Sammy Hagar Returns to a Changed Van Halen: 2004 Set List Flashback

Sammy Hagar tour: Van Halen songs on playlist for Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, Jason Bonham

van halen 2015 tour setlist

Sammy Hagar plans to revitalize some Van Halen vibes on his upcoming summer tour.

For The Best of All Worlds Tour, Hagar and his bandmates in The Circle – bassist Michael Anthony, a founding member of Van Halen, and drummer Jason Bonham – will be joined by guitarist virtuoso Joe Satriani , who has recorded and performed with Hagar and Anthony in the band Chickenfoot.

The itinerary kicks off on July 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida, and the tour hits a total of 28 cities, concluding August 31 in St. Louis, Missouri. Loverboy will serve as the opening act.

Pre-sales begin on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m., with general on-sale starting Friday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. local. For more information go to RedRocker.com .

Hagar, 76, joined Van Halen as vocalist in 1985 after David Lee Roth left. Hagar also left the band in 1996, but returned for a 2004 tour. Recently, Hagar says he and Anthony decided to perform songs from their days playing in Van Halen at Hagar's annual Birthday Bash last month in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

"We pulled out a couple of them and it was an instant lovefest with the fans from our first riffs," Hagar said in a statement with the tour announcement. "The music we created is going to outlive us all. They deserve to be heard so it's time we go out and serve the fans that music, while we still can."

The four albums of the "Van Hagar" era of the band – 5150 (1986), OU812 (1988), For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991), and Balance (1995) – were recently re-released in newly remastered editions.

“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played these songs with Van Halen on the 04’ Best of Both Worlds Tour,” said Hagar. “With Joe on board, we can take a deeper dive into those years. We’re going to touch on some hits from my entire career but seeing fans old and new really embrace the new collection set off something in Mikey and I."

Joining the band on keyboards and backing vocals is Australian musician Rai Thistlethwayte.

With more than 75 million albums sold worldwide, and more No. 1 hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart than any other artist, the band’s record of achievement is hard to top. The eponymous debut album and 1984 were both certified Diamond, for U.S. sales in excess of 10 million, placing them on an elite short list of double RIAA-certified Diamond Award honorees.
