Flag of Cyprus

Where is the blue lagoon Cyprus?

The blue lagoon in Cyprus is located in the region of Paphos, on the western side of the island. On the north-western tip of Cyprus, you’ll find the Akamas Peninsula National Park of which the blue lagoon is part of.

How to visit the blue lagoon in Paphos, Cyprus?

The best way to visit the blue lagoon is by boat. Several tour companies run daily cruises along the Akamas coast towards the blue lagoon and the most convenient starting point is the fishing village Latchi on the northern tip of Paphos. From the city of Paphos in the south, it’s only an approximate 1-hour drive on the fast road to the north of Cyprus.

The journey is easy if you own a rental car. However, there are also busses leaving from the city of Paphos to Latchi – just plan enough time. The following two bus routes will bring you to Latchi:

  • 618 Paphos Harbour to Karavella + 645 Karavella to Polis + 622 Polis to Latchi
  • 648 Coral Bay to Polis + 622 Polis to Latchi

If you don’t want to get to the departure port independently, you can book a boat cruise around the blue lagoon including pickup from your hotel in Paphos in advance online here !

To make your trip more comfortable and convenient, you can rent a car using Rentalcars , where you will be able to choose the most suitable option for you in advance

There are several tour agencies offering a cruise around the blue lagoon Cyprus. In my opinion, the offered services are rather similar. Personally, I went with a company called Alkion and had a good experience. During the summer months, most tour companies offer cruises two times a day – one in the morning (around 10:30am) and one in the afternoon (around 2pm).

Some companies also offer a sunset cruise in the evening. Since there are so many tour agencies, I don’t think that booking in advance is mandatory. While I walked around the harbour, I could spot all the different agencies and boats promoting their tours and it seemed to be easy just to walk around, compare prices and choose one of the agencies.

I paid 20€ for my blue lagoon Cyprus cruise with Alkion (children only pay half of the price). Some companies also offer barbecue on deck – however, expect to pay a little bit more.

You could also visit the Akamas national park and the blue lagoon Cyprus by car / jeep. However, please keep in mind that the roads are rather adventurous and therefore, a four-wheeler is needed. Some agencies also offer jeep safaris around the Akamas national park, which might be the more convenient solution.

My boat tour to the blue lagoon Cyprus

I was on the morning cruise, and once the boat was full, we left the harbour around 10:30am and started our boat journey towards the blue lagoon. There’s a sun deck on top (which I avoided most of the time due to the incredible heat in August), a sitting area below with tables and benches as well as the lower deck, where you can see the sea through the glass bottom. Most people spent their time at the sitting area.

Tables on the boat

While we were cruising along the Akamas coast, speakers gave us information about the rock formations at the coast and the national park every now and then in Greek and English. From the boat, you’ll see the famous “Baths of Aphrodite“ as well as several other bays and points of interest.

At the blue lagoon of Paphos, Cyprus

After about an hour, we arrived at the beautiful blue lagoon of Paphos, Cyprus! Our boat stopped, and we had enough time to go for a swim in the crystal-clear water. While there were several other boat companies, I didn’t experience the lagoon as too crowded (although I visited during peak season in August).

Every boat seemed to have its own space and the passengers were able to jump into the water and go for a swim. Life jackets were provided if needed. The water was very warm but refreshing. Since its so clear, the blue lagoon of Cyprus is also perfect for snorkelling. On board, we got offered complimentary wine, soft drinks and watermelon. At the bar, you’re also able to purchase other snacks.

After around one hour at the blue lagoon, everyone went back on the boat and we continued our journey back to Latchi harbour. Around 1:30pm, our boat arrived in Latchi.

Visiting the blue lagoon Cyprus – my review

I enjoyed my cruise to the blue lagoon in Paphos to the fullest and it’s been certainly one of my highlights on my recent trip around Cyprus. The Akamas coastline is stunning and a boat journey is probably the best way to visit and explore the national park.

Generally, the region of Paphos has much to offer and I can only recommend everyone to explore the area instead of only staying in Paphos town. Cyprus is beautiful – and the blue lagoon is certainly one of Cyprus’ big highlights!

Frequently Asked Questions About Visiting the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus

Visiting the Blue Lagoon in Paphos, Cyprus, can be a mesmerizing experience, one that leaves you with a sense of wonder and a longing to return. If you’re planning your visit, you might have some questions about what to expect. Here are detailed answers based on my personal experiences and thorough research to help you prepare for your trip.

Are there any specific safety measures or precautions to consider while swimming in the Blue Lagoon?

When swimming in the Blue Lagoon, it’s important to be mindful of your surroundings. The waters are generally calm and clear, making it a safe environment for swimming. However, always keep an eye on weather conditions and heed any local warnings or advisories. I found that wearing water shoes helped to protect my feet from the rocky bottom in some parts of the lagoon.

What is the best time of year to visit the Blue Lagoon for fewer crowds?

The Blue Lagoon is most serene during the early spring (April to May) and late autumn (October to November). During these months, the weather is still pleasant, and you’ll find fewer tourists compared to the peak summer season. I visited in late October and enjoyed a much quieter experience, which was perfect for soaking in the natural beauty of the area.

Can you rent snorkeling equipment at the Blue Lagoon or should you bring your own?

It is possible to rent snorkeling equipment at the Blue Lagoon from nearby vendors. However, for a more hassle-free experience, I recommend bringing your own equipment if you have it. This way, you’re not dependent on the availability or quality of rentals, and you can enjoy the underwater scenery right away.

Are there any facilities like restrooms or food services available at the Blue Lagoon?

The Blue Lagoon itself is quite remote and does not offer extensive facilities. There are some basic amenities provided by local tour operators, such as restrooms and sometimes small snack bars on the boats. For a more comfortable visit, consider bringing your own refreshments and possibly a picnic if you plan to stay for several hours.

How can someone with mobility issues access the Blue Lagoon area?

Access to the Blue Lagoon can be challenging for those with mobility issues. The terrain around the lagoon is rugged, and getting to the water often involves walking over uneven surfaces. Some boat tours that visit the lagoon are equipped with ramps and staff to assist passengers. It’s best to contact tour providers in advance to discuss specific needs.

What types of wildlife, if any, can one expect to see around the Blue Lagoon?

The Blue Lagoon is a natural habitat for a variety of marine life. While snorkeling, you may spot different species of fish and perhaps even sea turtles if you’re lucky. The clear waters make it an excellent spot for marine observation. Always remember to respect the wildlife and maintain a safe distance.

Are there any conservation efforts in place to protect the Blue Lagoon’s natural beauty?

Yes, there are conservation efforts underway to preserve the pristine condition of the Blue Lagoon. These include regulations on the number of visitors and boats allowed in the area at any one time and initiatives to keep the waters and surrounding areas clean. Participating in these efforts by following guidelines and respecting nature will help ensure the lagoon remains unspoiled for future generations.

Is it possible to stay overnight near the Blue Lagoon, and if so, what accommodations are available?

Staying overnight near the Blue Lagoon is not possible as there are no accommodation facilities directly adjacent to it. However, there are several options in nearby towns such as Latchi and Polis, ranging from luxury resorts to comfortable guesthouses. Staying in these areas will give you the flexibility to visit the lagoon at different times of the day, perhaps even catching a stunning sunrise or sunset by the water.

Blue Lagoon Paphos

blue lagoon paphos

The Blue Lagoon, located roughly 50 kilometers from Paphos, is a picturesque bay with soft white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

As you may have already suspected, this is a pretty popular tourist hotspot! But can you get there on your own, and what are the differences between the various boat trip offers and tours to the Blue Lagoon Paphos ?

Let’s delve into the details.

Did you mean the Blue Lagoon Kosher Hotel ? If so, be sure to take a look at our thorough review of it!

The Best Time to Visit the Blue Lagoon

The spring and summer months, particularly from April to September, are undeniably the best times to visit the Blue Lagoon.

However, keep in mind that during July and August, the area tends to be more crowded with tourists. Additionally, the heat in the Blue Lagoon area during these months can be quite intense, so make sure to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen, a hat, and lightweight clothing.

Boat Tours to the Blue Lagoon Paphos

Taking a boat trip is the ideal way to explore the Blue Lagoon.

Whether you’re booking a trip online, through an agent, or directly from the tour company, prices typically range from 10 euros for children to 50 euros or more for adults, with boat rentals being an exception, but we will get into that later.

So what makes one tour stand out from another, and which one is the best choice for you?

To help you decide, we’ve listed all the available options and their current prices here, though they may change over time.

Best Budget: Blue Lagoon Boat Trip From Latchi Harbour

For those who have access to a car or are comfortable with public transportation , heading straight to Latchi’s waterfront would be a cost-effective option.

There, you’ll find several tour companies ready to take you on an adventure to this stunning destination.

Prices typically range from 10 euros for children to 20 euros for adults for a journey of 2.5 to 3 hours. Many of these tours also include complimentary fruits, refreshing juice (often orange or lemonade), and even a glass of wine, served 40 minutes into the trip.

The boats have changing rooms, restrooms, and a bar serving a variety of beverages, snacks, and ice cream. Most boats also feature two decks, with some boasting additional attractions like a glass-bottom viewing area, an inflatable slide, and snorkeling gear.

Plus, there’s usually a stop at the Blue Lagoon for swimming, allowing you to enjoy the translucent teal waters for 40 minutes to an hour.

Here are some of the best boats in Latchi Harbour:

  • Nafsika 2 – This boat has upper and lower decks along with two bars that serve complimentary fruits, juice, and wine. The journey lasts approximately 2.5 hours and includes an hour for swimming. You can also request snorkeling gear and other floating accessories.
  • Mediterranean One – A two-deck boat with a glass floor, offering a 2.5-hour cruise with an hour of lagoon swimming. Refreshments such as fruits, juice, and wine are provided throughout the trip.
  • Blue Diamond – On this boat, you’ll find an inflatable slide, snorkeling gear, and a guitarist who plays and sings. The excursion lasts about 3 hours with swimming, and you’ll be served fruits, juice, and wine.

While not mandatory, we strongly suggest booking in advance. Most cruises depart in the morning around 10:30 and again between 13:00-14:00.

If possible, try to arrive a little early to secure comfortable, shaded seating.

blue lagoon paphos swimming

For those interested in a 4.5-hour cruise with a meat-based meal option, prices range from 16.90 euros for children to 28.90 euros for adults (once again, without a transfer).

Below are the ticket prices:

Best Value: Blue Lagoon Boat Trip With Transfers

If you prefer the convenience of being picked up and dropped off at your hotel (in an air-conditioned bus, of course), combined with stops at interesting sites and local businesses, then this next tour is just what you need.

Obviously, the price is slightly higher since it includes transfers, ranging from 25 euros for children to 38 euros for adults, not including meals.

The bus tour starts around 8:00, depending on the hotel from which you’re picked up, and ends at 18:00.

Here’s the route we took (twice!):

  • A brief stop at a banana plantation and the shipwreck. There’s a shop nearby selling freshly squeezed juice, coffee, and snacks.
  • A hike to the Baths of Aphrodite in the Akamas Peninsula National Park, where you’ll find a gelato stand to help you cool off.
  • A lunch at a local tavern in the village of Polis. Food isn’t included in the price, however, it’s relatively inexpensive compared to other taverns.
  • A 2.5-hour cruise with a one-hour swimming stop. Fruits, juice, and wine are served on board.
  • A visit to a local winery for tastings of various wines and the intensely flavored Cypriot Zivania (for those with bold hearts, and bold hearts alone).

Overall, both of our trips to the Blue Lagoon were filled with adventure and good vibes. So, If you ever get the chance to go on this tour, don’t think twice — just go for it!

Just the Boat Ride

Only interested in sailing? No problem! Here’s a 6-hour tour where you’ll spend 3 hours cruising in the Blue Lagoon.

The trip includes hotel pick-up and drop-off, an inflatable water slide, snorkeling gear, and music. In addition, guests are offered fruits, juice, and wine.

The price for this one is 25 euros for children (with infants under 3 being free) and 35 euros for adults.

Boat Ride With BBQ

Looking for a trip to the Blue Lagoon that includes a lavish barbecue?

This boat ride comes with hotel pick-up and drop-off, a hearty barbecue meal, and complimentary servings of fruits, juice, and wine for dessert.

The sailing portion is 3 hours or so, and the entire trip, including transportation, lasts something like 6 hours in total.

Here, the price ranges from 35 euros for a child (age 0-11) to 50 euros for an adult.

Private Boat Rental

If you’re traveling as a small group, renting a private boat is a great option to consider.

The duration of the private boat rental is 4 hours, and the prices vary depending on the type of motorboat you choose.

For example, a small motorboat (50 horsepower) suitable for 6 people will cost 138 euros, while a boat with a 250 horsepower engine, suitable for a group of 8 people, will cost 289 euros, excluding fuel.

Both boats are equipped with life jackets and snorkeling gear.

That being said, it’s important to note that you’ll need to make your own way to Latchi Harbour and that a valid driver’s license is sometimes required to rent a boat.

Please pay close attention to the instructions and drive safely!

How to Get to Latchi Harbour

While public transportation can get you to Latchi Harbour, be aware that you may need to change buses 2-4 times, depending on which part of the city you’re in.

From Paphos Harbour

Bus route 610 leaves the main station at the harbour every 15-20 minutes and makes a stop at Karavella station in the Old Town. From there, you’ll need to switch to route 645 heading to Polis, and then transfer again to route 622 to reach Latchi Harbour.

From Tombs of the Kings Avenue

Start by boarding bus route 615 towards the Tombs of the Kings bus station. Next, take bus route 618 to the Old Town. Once you arrive, switch to bus route 645 to Polis and finally transfer to bus route 622 for Latchi Harbour.

From Universal area

Hop on bus route 603 to Karavella station. Then, switch to route 645 bound for Polis and transfer to route 622 to Latchi Harbour.

Feel free to check out the estimated travel durations :

Taking a taxi from Paphos to Latchi and back can be quite expensive, costing several hundred euros. This option might not be the most budget-friendly, especially considering there are more affordable alternatives that include both the boat trip and transfers.

For those who enjoy the freedom of independent travel to Latchi, renting a car is a much more convenient and economical option compared to buses or taxis.

Just avoid trying to drive directly to the Blue Lagoon with a private car as the road is extremely rough.

Blue lagoon cyprus: boat trips and all you need to know.

BLUE LAGOON CYPRUS: BOAT TRIPS & ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Cyprus, one of the largest islands in the Mediterranean, also boasts some of the cleanest and clearest seawater. On our recent trip to Cyprus, we took a boat tour to the Blue Lagoon – a cove renowned for it’s beauty.

This blog post will detail whether we think the Blue Lagoon Cyprus is worth visiting, as well as how to get there and the best boat tours.

Is visiting the Blue Lagoon Cyprus worth it?

The Blue Lagoon in Cyprus is a beautiful cove just off the Akamas Peninsula. It is called the Blue Lagoon (quite obviously) because it has extremely azure blue waters. As it is so remote, most people visit by boat tour. But is visiting the Blue Lagoon worth it?

trip to blue lagoon cyprus

We area always a wee bit skeptical about these beautiful swimming spots. Having swam in some incredible places – from Bali , to lakes in Norway , cenotes in Mexico and stunning rivers in the Albanian Mountains – we didn’t know if we would be impressed or not by the Blue Lagoon Cyprus.

Suffice to say, we really enjoyed our boat tour to the Blue Lagoon Cyprus. The water is an absolute delight – an incredible colour and filled with fish swimming beneath your feet. The Blue Lagoon Cyprus is an idyllic place to swim, canoe, snorkel, or just bob around on a noodle.

If you want somewhere completely undiscovered by tourism – then in all honest the Blue Lagoon Cyprus is not it. When we visited, there were probably four or five boats moored up in the same area. Personally, we enjoyed the fun of the cruise and the swim, despite other boats being there.

For a fun day out – the Blue Lagoon Cyprus is ideal. But if you’re going to be put off by other boats, or tourists, then we don’t recommend visiting.

Where is the Blue Lagoon Cyprus?

The Blue Lagoon Cyprus is located on the coast off the west side of the Akamas Peninsula. The closet town is Latchi (Latsi). You can find it here on GoogleMaps.

Can you get to the blue lagoon by car?

There are three ways to get to the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus.

1/ Hiking – there’s a hiking trail leading you to the beach nearby. We haven’t tried this as I’m petrified of snakes and I understand they are sighted regularly on the path. So we can’t make a recommendation, but we think All Trails has a trail map.

2/ Drive in a 4×4 – you can reach the Blue Lagoon by car, but a 4×4 is required. The drive is around 1 hour 30 minutes from Paphos, but is not recommended unless you know where you are going and have a proper 4×4. Anyone looking to do this, may be interested in booking a landrover day trip – this tour takes in the Blue Lagoon as well as various other beauty spots along the coast.

3/ By boat trip – the final way to reach the Blue Lagoon Cyprus is to take a boat tour. Normally this will include transport by bus from Paphos to the dock in Latchi – from there it is a 30 minute or so cruise around the coast to reach the Blue Lagoon.

Are Blue Lagoon Cyprus boat trips worth it?

trip to blue lagoon cyprus

Honestly, we weren’t sure if a Blue Lagoon Boat Tour would our thing or not. We were a little concerned that it would be a “party boat” with limited sightseeing. But, our experience was very different.

The boat tour to the Blue Lagoon that we chose was a very laid back and leisurely experience. For around 50 Euros, we had a full day out inclusive of food, drinks and transport. What more could you ask for?

The Blue Lagoon is undoubtedly one of the prettiest places that we have had the pleasure of swimming in, and we would recommend it.

Some of the best Blue Lagoon Cyprus boat trips

Blue Lagoon Boat Trip with BBQ & Open Bar

✅Transport to/from Paphos

✅4 hours on the boat

✅Lunch and drinks included

Our Blue Lagoon boat tour

trip to blue lagoon cyprus

We picked this tour from Paphos to the Blue Lagoon and we would really recommend it.

Our experience didn’t start that well to be honest, we had trouble confirming the pick up point and the bus collecting us was a little late.

As soon as we arrived our minds were put at ease. The boat was gorgeous and not overcrowded – there were loungers and various decks to enjoy. The staff were incredible too – a lot of fun and really made the trip special.

We were staying in Paphos and hadn’t hired a car so we opted for a boat tour that included transport to and from Paphos – you’ll want to consider this when choosing a tour.

Secondly, when deciding on a tour, you’ll notice that some include food and drinks, whilst others do not. We wanted to let our hair down a bit, so opted for a tour with an open bar and lunch inclusive. And, whilst the lunch wasn’t fancy food, it was fine for the price.

Plus, we definitely got good value from the bar – they offered soft drinks, cocktails, spirits, beer and wine for four hours.

We would really recommend this Boat Tour.

Alternative Blue Lagoon Boat Tours

trip to blue lagoon cyprus

Here are three more blue lagoon boat trips to consider.

1/ 8 hour trip – we opted for a shorter boat tour, but there are full day trips available. This 8 hour blue lagoon tour is very reasonably priced (30 Euros per person), which includes fruit, water and wine – but not a full open bar.

We did a another tour with this company (constructour) to the Troodos Mountains and whilst we haven’t tested their Blue Lagoon tour, we would recommend them as a company.

2/ Adults Only Boat Tour – This includes 5 hours of open bar, plus two different swimming spots. This tour actually doesn’t go to the Blue Lagoon, it sticks to the coast around Paphos -so you also skip the bus journey!

3/ Budget boat tour – this is one of the cheapest options for a full day boat tour, inclusive of transfers to/ from Paphos but not including food and drink. One for anyone looking to visit the Blue Lagoon on a budget.

A dip in the Blue Lagoon is sure to provide you with relaxation and breathtaking views.

READ ON THE FOX NEWS APP

Western Iceland is where you can find Snæfellsjökull National Park, home to the beautiful glacier.

Snæfellsjökull was declared a national park in 2001 and is only one of three national parks in the country .

Snæfellsjökull is described in Jules Verne's famous novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

There are several black sand beaches in Iceland that are truly a sight unlike any other.

A GUIDE TO SIGHTSEEING IN ITALY: A ROMAN ADVENTURE AWAITS YOU

One of these is Reynisfjara, a black sand beach good for seeing but not for swimming because of the cold water and strong currents that make it dangerous.

You can also see the sparkle of Diamond Beach while in Iceland. This black sand beach is full of diamond resembling ice, making the water shimmer and shine.

Again, Diamond Beach is another beautiful landmark, but avoid swimming in this water, mainly because of the icebergs that can cause injury.

Vatnajokull glacier is Europe's largest. You can explore the glacier on foot or rent a snowmobile to see more in a short time.

There are so many breathtaking ice caves to explore throughout the glacier.

Vatnajokull may look familiar to you, even if you haven't visited Iceland before, as it was featured in the HBO series "Game of Thrones" and two "James Bond" films.

Vatnajökull National Park is where you can find Skaftafell nature reserve. Skaftafell nature reserve has been a part of Vatnajökull National Park since 2008. Glacier lagoons, black sand and mesmerizing rock formations can all be found here.

EXPLORING THAILAND'S TAPESTRY OF TRADITION, ADVENTURE, TIMELESS BEAUTY

It is just about 45 minutes from Diamond Beach.

Taking a Golden Circle tour is a must-do activity on a trip to Iceland. The Golden Circle is a scenic route where you'll be able to see Iceland in all its beauty.

How much time you carve out for this depends on how long you want to spend at each stop. You can easily spend days exploring this area, or you can rent a car and spend a few hours driving around.

There are three main stops part of the Golden Circle: Thingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall.

Reykjavík is filled with bars and restaurants , making the city a great spot for thriving nightlife at the end of a busy day exploring.

While here, you can also visit Hallgrimskirkja Church and stop by one of the many local swimming pools throughout the city.

AUSTRALIA TRAVEL GUIDE: WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU VISIT THE LAND DOWN UNDER

Skogafoss waterfall is a breathtaking beauty you will not want to miss when traveling to Iceland.

Get your cameras ready for this stop, because you'll want to snap a picture of you in front of the enormous waterfall. It's not a bad idea to pack a pair of waterproof shoes on your visit.

You don't need to carve out too much time for this, 30 to 45 minutes will do. Rainbows are very common here, so keep your eye out for that, too.

While in Iceland, you'll most likely be able to cross "see the northern lights" off your bucket list.

Making a plan to see the colorful lights in the sky is a little tricky, since their occurrence is not super predictable. That said, visiting between September and April, when the nights are long and dark, will give you the best possibility of seeing the aurora borealis.
