Our driver Stuart was a lovely gentleman, polite well mannered & funny. Advised on other trips that my husband & I were very interested in. Hotel was clean but decor bit dated. Food was lovely although they could have catered more for food allergies. Enjoyed our meals though. Hotel didn’t have anything nearby. Enjoyed our trip though & will be booking more with Caledonia travel 👌🏼

Caledonian staff are very helpful and our trip to Liverpool was wonderful. However, the Adelphi Hotel did have the initial wow factor but the restaurant let it down somewhat. The plates were always cold, Lemon Sponge was dessert two nights running. Rice Krispies only appeared on the last morning.

We traveled on 10th june with 4 friends on the NC 500 trip was amazing as was our driver Danny he really made the trip with all his knowlege The only down side was having to stay at the Thurso hotel for an extra night meaning we had only one night at the Gairloch head hotel which was by far a better hotel which we were only told about on the bus by Danny Other that that we had a great Trip Maureen George

We did so much on an overnight trip. Lovely hotel, Holiday Inn,Derek driver was friendly and informative. Food and rooms excellent. If only we had more time in Bamburgh and Holy Island. 2 of the group of 6 including myself are going on a 5 day trip to this area on 22nd July with Caladonian.

First Class Trip…

Had our first trip with Caledonian Travel in May. Everything great. Lovely coach. Great journey down. Best of all bus driver Adrian. The most cheerful bus driver ever. Fantastic value. We enjoyed this so much we have already booked our next trip to York in August. Would definitely recommend Caledonian Travel. We already have to our friends and family.

NC500 Experience

Had a really good time with Caledonian Travel doing the NC500 tour with our friends. Our driver, Danny, was exceptional, very informative and helpful. The North Coast is very beautiful and very interesting with the difference coastlines from one side to the other.

Best way to see life and make memories

Have used Caledonian a lot over the years be it trips with my partner or girly trips and they never fail to deliver From stepping on Coach to return home my experience has been first class Can't wait for ABBA voyage and York races...then will need to book another Well done to a great company

Emmerdale Tour

If it wasn't for the actual Emerdale Village Tour I would have given it 1Star. The hotel was very poor and the food offered was extremely poor and not cooked well. The leg on the coach was very limited causing extreme mis-comfort not really suitable for anyone over 5'7. The length of time spent in Skipton was far to long and could of been halved. But would highly recommend the actual Emmerdale Tour itself for any Emmerdale fan

Caledonian travel is fantastic value for money. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday where you don't have to think where to go on a daily basis or think about what to cook at night this is the holiday for you plus most hotels have entertainment at night.

Mystery Tour

We had a lovely Mystery Tour and ended up in Matlock then Bakewell. It would have been better to have more time in ‘Matlock and less in Bakewell though. I’ve booked another Mystery Tour so hope it’s not the same trip lol. It would be nice to go to Liverpool or Chester for a change as most mystery trips go to the same old places such as Stratford and Lincoln. Must say our driver was lovely too and was very jovial, overall a great trip Thankyou

When booking the holiday we were under the impression we were booked to go the day trip to Guernsey as advertised. We are absolutely gutted to find out today that we are not on the list of guests. I phoned Caledonian to ask if there was any way we could go even offering to -ay extra money but was told not possible.

Date of experience : 24 June 2024

Thank you for taking the time to post your review; we really appreciate your feedback. It is disappointing to read that not all aspects of your break were to your full satisfaction and enjoyment, and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further with you. Please would you kindly email us at [email protected] with your feedback, quoting your holiday booking reference number, if possible, please, and one of the team will come back to you. Thanks, Rosie

Booked a 2 day trip to Liverpool but as coach left at 1pm the next day felt we had less than a day and half there.travel often with Caledonian and usually happy. The experience depends on pleasant and helpful drivers this one was neither.

Well organized

Well organized, driver kept you updated on route progress and planned stops and any changes to plans effected by traffic The particular hotel we stayed at though dated you could not ask for better service from all members of staff could not complain of quality or quantity of food The trips we went on were very well planned and the two particular drivers we had kept us well informed of local features and character's gave us plenty of information before arriving at our destinations All in all a very pleasant and relaxing holiday will certainly be looking forward to joining Caledonian again

Ladies having fun!!!

Went on a 2 day girley wk-end our driver was called David wot a lovely polite person; would recommend a Caledonian trip value for money 100 per cent!! 👌

The experience of speaking to the staff. They were so nice and happy and helpful when we entered the shop. The lady was so happy to help us choosing our holiday Marion was so professional and happy to take our booking. Thanks Marion.

Forming almost a complete circuit, Chester's grade I listed walls originate from 100 AD - the best-preserved in England and it's home to Britain’s largest Roman amphitheatre, the oldest sporting venue in continual use (The Roodee Racecourse), a 1000-year-old cathedral with Europe’s finest example of medieval carvings, plus The Rows: 700-year-old medieval two-tiered timber-framed galleries which line the main streets of the city. The remarkable Rows Your eyes will catch these striking black-and-white buildings – which are now home to an exciting mix of shops, restaurants, pubs, bars, attractions, and experiences. The unique structures have been the place to eat, drink, and trade through much of Chester’s history. Chester Zoo As well as its racecourse, cathedral, and black-and-white buildings - Chester is also known for its zoo. 20,000 animals are resident in what is the most visited zoo in the UK - and the most visited UK attraction outside of London.

It's one of the UK’s most popular city breaks – and it’s clear why

The waterfront is definitely the place to be, liverpool is the perfect place to learn about the fab four.

Caledonian Coach trip to Blackpool and Chester Zoo

10th August 2022

caledonian travel chester zoo

On July 30th-31st, Alex from Larchfield Community went on a coach trip to Blackpool and Chester Zoo. Alex loves animals and the seaside, so this trip was her ideal holiday.

Alex and her support worker Deborah set off from Middlesbrough bus station on Saturday morning and arrived in Blackpool early afternoon.

Alex said ‘When we got there, it had been raining all day, and it was a bit windy, but it wasn’t cold. Debbie and I had a little walk around the arcades, then went for a drink and a snack, and I got a giant cookie, which was lovely!’

Alex and Deborah then visited Blackpool Tower and braved ascending to the top.

Alex said ‘I was a bit scared as it was very high, but Debbie said she would hold my hand all the time.

‘First we went into a 4D cinema for a five minute “ride”, which was fun, and we got splashed with water and bubbles which made me laugh very much. Then we went in a glass lift, and at first, I didn’t want to look out of the windows but I did, and it was very high, but I was ok.

‘When we got to the top, there is a glass floor, and holding Debbie’s hand, we stood on it together! It wasn’t as scary as I thought, and I was so happy that I did it and I couldn’t wait to tell my mum and dad. I also bought a medal from the gift shop, to show that I had been very brave by going to the top of the Tower. We had a little walk around, looking at the views, then went back down in the lift.’

Alex and Debbie then went on a walk along the piers before going back to the coach and heading to their hotel to enjoy a relaxing glass of rose wine.

caledonian travel chester zoo

On Sunday, Alex and Debbie set off early in the morning for Chester Zoo and luckily it was a beautiful sunny day.

Alex said ‘We saw the giraffes having breakfast, and we saw monkeys swinging in the tree.

‘We saw the elephants, and there was a little baby one, then we went to see the lions, but they were asleep, and the big lion was hiding at the back and we only saw is head.

‘We saw lizards and frogs, and scary snakes. A lot of the animals were hiding or sleeping, but I loved them all. Animals are my favourite. We did a lot of walking, and my legs were very tired, but I had a lovely time.’

Do you think you could help someone take part in fantastic activities and be a supporting hand to help them face their fears? We have support worker roles across the country, why not take a look and see if you can make a difference in people’s live: https://www.camphillvillagetrust.org.uk/joinourteam/

Caledonian travel is fantastic value…

Our Short Break with Caledonian Travel

caledonian travel chester zoo

(AD) We were recently invited along on one of the Caledonian Travel Family Fun Trips.

Caledonian Travel are a much loved name in Scotland and have been for over 30 years. From 2021 they started departures from the North East & North Yorkshire

North East departures can be found HERE

One of the many things we love about Caledonian Travel is they use the cleanest, most efficient vehicles with euro 6 fuel efficient engines, which emit reduced levels of carbon dioxide. You are probably aware by now that we like to be as green as we can and earlier this year switched to an electric car, so eco friendly coaches are a big plus for us.

Caledonian Travel have added a Family Fun section to the website offering some fantastic deals for family breaks. Some of the more popular breaks include:

Harry Potter Studio Tour

Alton Towers

Chester Zoo

Cadbury World

Disneyland Paris

Our driver for the this trip was Ray. I have to do a little section just for him because he was absolutely wonderful. Ray was a delight for the whole trip and I hope that on future trips we have someone just like him.

He kept everyone entertained throughout the trip, did little quizzes for the adults and kids and he was very knowledgeable when it came to London. We really enjoyed the coach tour and he just knew everything there was to know.

When you have someone like this working for you, Caledonian Travel I hope you cherish him.

We had a 2 day break to London and The Harry Potter Studio Tour

We chose Park Lane as our pick up point as we just live a 10 minute walk from the bus station

On our trip we were travelling on the Green Goddess, the coach turned up on time and I was quite surprised by the coach as its been a while since I was last on one.

On the coach you can expect:

Reclining Seats

Air Con (This was handy)

Toilet and small wash area

Your seats are reserved for your whole trip. This was super handy, as it meant we could leave our backpacks on the coach when we were on toilet stops.

The seating is comfortable and it didn't feel like we were on the coach that long to be honest. We had two stops on the way down for toilet breaks and to stretch our legs, which was great because I'm claustrophobic and couldn't use the toilet on the coach. Our pickup in Park Lane was 7.10am and we were in London by 2pm. On our trip our driver Ray was offering a coach tour around London, which we did and I am so glad we did, because I think this was probably my favourite part of the whole trip. We got to see some of the wonderful sights and get off for photos too. The coach tour is extra and costs £12.50 per adult £7.50 for kids. You could also get off and not do the tour which would have given you 4 hours free time to explore the sights and sounds of London. After the tour we had around an hour and a half of free time, so we just went for a walk and watched some of the festival, which was taking place in Trafalgar Square. We also headed to the Savoy Hotel for a little nosey (It is extravagant) followed by a walk back to the coach.

On the tour

This was a chance to see some of the tourist spots and find out a bit about them. This is how our tour went.

St Pauls Cathedral

London Bridge

Tower Bridge

The London Eye

We were able to stop at various points for photographs and Ray was a great help. Full of facts and gave advice on where to get the best pictures.

Once everyone was back on the coach we then headed into Watford, to the Jurys Inn Hotel.

The rooms were lovely, we had 2 adjoining rooms, each with a king-size bed and a single bed, bathroom with bath and shower, tv, wardrobe and a dressing table.

The rooms were nice and clean and spacious.

Food is included in the price of your trip. You get an evening meal and then Breakfast.

Breakfast was fantastic, they had lots to choose from and it suited everyone's dietary needs.

We did have a little wander and found a Sainsburys, a convenience store and a bar across the road from the Hotel

The following day (Sunday)

Everyone was back on the coach by 10am and all the kids were super excited for Harry Potter. Elliot even wore his Gryffindor cloak and had his wand. We did arrive a little early but we were allowed entry at 10.30.

We were handed tickets and a passport and off we went.

Harry Potter (Please see the full Blog Review for more in depth details)

The Passports have some spaces to collect embossed stamps at different points on the tour and there are also snitches to find. When we dfirst joine the tour we were guided through with other people. I would say roughly around 100 people. We were taken to a cinema room. After a 5 minute video you are then taken to the Dining Hall and from there you can go around at your own pace. There are lots of photo opportunities. There are a few spots you can not take your own photos and they are in the cinema and at the green screens. (Copyright issues) It was busy, as to be expected for a weekend, but it wasn't crazy busy

We had 4 hours in total and to be honest we were done after 3 hours. It is a fantastic place to visit and if you fancy it, I would recommend doing it through Caledonian Travel as entry just to the Studios is expensive. (Over £200 for a family of 5)

Unfortunately we didn't take our own food in for lunch and ended up waiting until we had finished the tour to get food, because the queues at the halfway point were ridiculous. It is quite expensive at £6.75 for a child's pizza and £4.50 for a side of chips. The Adult Pizza was £10. We did have ice cream because we did budget for that, which again is expensive. We had a tasting tub which was £8.95 but to be honest the cones were better which were £4.95 and Adam had a milkshake which cost £6.95. All in all though it was a fantastic day and we thoroughly enjoyed it. To Book Your Harry Potter Break Click HERE

Once everyone was back on the coach we headed for home, we did stop twice. Once just for 10 minutes and then again for 1 hour. We were back in Park Lane just after 9pm.

We would highly recommend Caledonian Travel for your breaks, especially with kids as we had a fantastic time and I have actually been eyeing up a few other trips with Caledonian Travel, so watch this space.

Good To Know

When Booking a UK break, £10 deposit per person is needed and then the rest 6 weeks before your departure. If you are booking a European, Ireland & The Channel Islands plus any special events needs to be paid 8 weeks before departure.
