Finally Solved The Front End Clunk Problem!

As has been reported here SEVERAL times, the D is known for a real low clunk in the front end. Many have reported feeling it through the floorboards, especially at low speeds. After having a front axle seal replaced under warranty, which reduced the clunk, mine started to get worse again. Since I don't drive the D that much (wife's truck), it took a while before I got so irritated w/ it that I dragged the tech at the stealership into the truck w/ me and drove until he heard it. Ultimate problem? Swaybar bushings. Apparently they go out on the minivans at anywhere from 25-30k. My D had 85k on it before they finally figured it out. Now a month after replacement I can safely say that the problem is FIXED!!!!!! For those that have reported a similar issue, they ARE covered under most extended warranties. My front shocks were also covered under my extended and while they didn't feel soft, I said, "what the heck, if you're up there and they're free, replace 'em."

Thanks. I like the bushings you installed. I've been MIA for while working on my Jeep. Now that I've got that back in shape I'll probably be around here more often.  

Another area that can produce the "clunk" sound is the sway bar endlinks. I inadvertantly loosed one when I did my shock swap and I started getting the clunk sound. Took it to the dealer (found out my extended warranty is no good in Germany) and they wanted to charge me $250 to replace the link, saying is was bad. Took it to another dealer "Ford" (They also do custom suspension/paint, etc.) and they found that it was just loose and tightened it. No more clunk problem. Once summer comes around i'm going to also replace the bushings with the energy suspension parts as mentioned in mbroggi1's thread.  

I have to do mine as well.....  

Luckily my durango has not givin me this problem... *knock on wood*

*UPDATE* Clunking noise when turning left of right - video inside Anyone experience this problem? I have a clunking sound when turning hard left or right. More noticeable at lower speeds. Brought it to the dealer and of course they said they couldn't replicate the problem. Based on the video it sounds like it may be your power steering pump. Doesn't the 2012 non SRT have the new electric type and have there not been issues with them?  

That's for the help guys. I'll report back with what I find.  

I finally was able to get this fixed under warranty. I had to take it to another dealership since Rick Hendrick was no help. According to the dealership, "BRAKE PAD ANTIRATTLE CLIP INSTALLED WRONG." Thanks for the help everyone!  

you had your breaks installed recently and found this out? or did come from factory like this?  

They came from the factory like this. The dealer I was taking it to wasn't able to "reproduce the problem," so I finally found time to take it to a dealership in another city that found the problem and had it corrected within an hour. Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App

Tapping Noise Behind Right Rear Quarter Panel(passenger side)

Hello, My 2008 Limited (28K miles) has developed a tapping noise in the rear quarter panel. If you took a finger and tapped the dash repeatedly would be a similar sound. The sound appears at random whether the ignition is on or not and can be heard inside and outside the vehicle. Sound lasts from 5-10 seconds. Any ideas?? Thanks for Pondering. Kevin

Yea, the noise is audible from the interior and exterior. Has any one pulled this panel? Is it one single or 2 or more pieces? Any tie with the headliner? this is the rear passenger side. Thanks.

Well...........the tapping noise is from the servo the moves the baffle from heat to cool. opened the servo and found that a post for a gear has sheared off. An 08' Limited w/ 28K miles!!!! I've had to replace the lift gate supports twice also. This is the fourth D we have owned.  

the lift gate looks like heavy doors on those 2 gen D's, did you do the OEM struts or find Aftermarket? As for the servo, It's makes me wonder if this was installation problem??  

actuator-vehicle manuf 03/08. changed parts 1/08. had to find under 09 parts for rear a/c heat.  

Have any pics of the beast? Welcome Gen 2 owner! We're a small bunch compared to the other gens, but we're a feisty bunch. Actually, we're not all that feisty really. Funny, when the gen 2 was first released I was horrified, but I've grown very fond of them now, especially since I got my own.  

I just started having this same problem about 3 weeks ago, and my vehicle has over 162K miles on it. How difficult was it to replace that servo? Are there any instruction manuals for "how to" that I can find on the web?

Dodge Journey Shakes When Idle:  Causes and How to Fix 

It can be very jarring when your Dodge Journey shakes when idle.  If your Journey has this problem, many issues can cause it.  We’ve lined out some of the most common causes below.

The most common reasons a vehicle shakes when idling is a misfire or bad motor mount.

Check for codes.

There are a lot of reasons why your Journey may shake when idle.  Before trying to figure out what is causing your Journey to feel like a washer full of towels, make sure the check engine light isn’t on.  

If it is, get the trouble codes.  That’s a great place to start.  You can get an OBD II code scanner cheaply, or most auto parts stores provide a complimentary scan.  

With these diagnostic codes, you’ll know which sensor is reporting a problem, which will narrow down your list of problems.  When relevant, we’ve listed the applicable code in the “causes” section below.

Diagnostic Table

1.  ignition misfire.

You’ll likely get a misfire code, such as P0300 or P030X (X being the misfiring cylinder number.

The ignition system is responsible for burning the air-fuel mixture that enters the combustion chamber.  If your Journey isn’t getting a good spark it will shake as it misfires and tries to stay running.

Here are the main components of the ignition system, as well as what would cause them to make your Journey shake when idling.

• Spark Plugs – The spark plugs are one of the most common causes (if not the most common reason that your Journey may have vibrations and shaking).  Although most modern vehicles use iridium spark plugs, they need changing at Dodge’s recommended intervals. This page has a great chart to compare your spark plug condition to new ones.  Here’s more on bad spark plugs .
• Coil Packs –  Nearly all model years and engines use coil packs.  They are fired by the PCM (powertrain control module) at precisely the right time to provide the optimal ignition timing.  If a coil pack goes bad , it’ll cause a misfire and rough idle condition. Your Journey will be running rougher at any RPM, but a misfire will be most pronounced at idle.
• Spark Plug Wires –  While only some models and engine combinations of vehicles today come with spark plug wires (a lot are now coil-on plug), if your Journey happens to have them, they can go bad and cause a rough idle.  Here’s a great video on how to diagnose faulty plug wires with a multimeter.

2. Vacuum Leak

It may appear with P0171 (fuel trim lean) or no code. You may hear a whining or whistling sound.

Your Journey’s engine creates a vacuum when running.  The PCM knows precisely how much air enters the engine due to data from the MAF or MAP sensors.  

If unmetered air (air that enters that didn’t pass through the MAF sensor) enters the engine, it will cause your vehicle to shake when idle.  

Here are some frequent vacuum leak locations:

• Between the MAF sensor and throttle body (some vehicles only use a MAP sensor)
• Intake gasket
• EVAP lines going into the intake
• Brake booster line

Diagnosing a vacuum leak can be tricky.  Here’s a good YouTube video on how to do it.

3. Motor Mount

Shakes when idle, smooths out while driving, thunking sound when shifting, no code.

Your Journey’s engine mounts connect it to the chassis.  If they wear out, it can cause a shaking condition when idle. 

You should also feel the shaking more in gear than when you are in park.  It would also feel shaky as the transmission shifts through its gears.

An engine misfire is the most common cause of a shaking idle, and as the engine stumbles and misfires, it should be noticeable on the tachometer as a drop in RPM.  

If the tachometer is rock steady, and the shaking seems worse out of gear than in gear, it indicates a bad motor mount

4. Engine Timing

You may hear a slapping sound inside the timing cover if the timing chain/belt is loose.  You’ll likely see code P0016 or P0017.

If the timing belt or chain has jumped a tooth, the camshaft(s) and crank will no longer be lined up properly.  When this happens, it can cause a lot of engine vibration.

5. Air Filter

The air filter location is a favorite winter nesting place for rodents if they can get in there.

A dirty or clogged air filter will usually cause the idle speed to dip erratically when letting off the accelerator (so can a dirty throttle body).

If your check engine light isn’t on, checking out the air filter would be a great place to start.  It’s readily accessible, sometimes the problem, and super cheap and easy to replace.

6. Air Fuel Mixture 

You’ll most likely get P0171 (running lean) or P0172 (running rich) if there’s an air-fuel mixture issue.  You may also get a misfire code or O2 sensor code.

Fuel Injectors

Your Dodge Journey’s fuel injection system atomizes the fuel into a fine mist.  If a fuel injector is clogged or not operating properly, it will either let too much or too little fuel into the combustion chamber relative to the amount of air. 

There are many reasons why a fuel injector may go bad, as well as different symptoms relative to how they went bad.  For more, check out Dodge Journey bad fuel injector symptoms .

Your Dodge Journey’s O2 sensors monitor the exhaust to help the PCM determine the correct air/fuel mixture.  

O2 sensors may have the most demanding job of all the sensors in your vehicle.  They deal with the hot exhaust that can cover them in deposits that can leave them ineffective.  

The exhaust heat can also bake the O2 sensor wiring going to/from them over time.

If an oxygen sensor begins to fail, it can make your Journey run too lean (or rich).  A super lean running engine will often shake when idling.  The mixture would be wrong at all RPM, but the shaking decreases as the engine speed increases.

7. Improperly Balanced Engine

There’ll be no codes associated with a bad harmonic balancer.

If the harmonic balancer fails, it’ll cause your Dodge Journey to vibrate at idle speed.  As the crankshaft spins faster, the vibration will become less pronounced.

Shakes When Idle But Smooths Out When Accelerating

The reason your Dodge Journey shakes at idle but smooths out when accelerating is that the engine is spinning faster, which smooths out any misfires.  

If a motor mount is causing the problem, once you put the vehicle into gear, the torque from the engine will hold it against the frame.

Since the series “Knock on My Door in Moscow” is an official remake, the general plot of the Turkish hit is preserved. Of course, individual details and structure will differ, but in general, the story of Sasha Gordeeva and Sergei Gradsky will be a repetition of the events that happened with Eda Yıldız and Serkan Bolat.

The first part of the adaptation is almost entirely consistent with the original: the camera pans through the main character’s room, bathed in the morning sun, where a voice-over talks about the girl’s fate. Eda and Sasha lost their parents in primary school, they live with their aunt, they work in their family’s flower shop, they dream of becoming a landscape designer, they have three close friends and a long-distance boyfriend. Does Eda tell more about herself: After her parents left, she focused on her studies, “became the first among the firsts”, won the Olympics, received an invitation to study in Italy in her last year of university, and knew that she would definitely find a job after graduation.

And Gradsky appears at the door of the plane in casual clothes and immediately scolds the frightened employee Lilya on the phone. However, an expensive sports car awaits Sergei at the top of the track – Serkan was deprived of such a privilege.

Moreover, the plot of the Russian version practically does not differ from the Turkish one. A businessman comes into the office, the employees are flustered and argue over who will tell him the news about his ex-girlfriend Alina’s engagement (in the original Celine). The assistant gives Gradsky a handcuff-shaped invitation to his ex-girlfriend’s engagement party. Later, Sergei goes to a meeting with students, where Sasha is found (she planned to meet her boyfriend at the airport, but he arrived earlier). After shouting profanities at the businessman from the audience, the girl writes the word “goat” with lipstick on the window of his sports car (here Eda was more cruel: She scratched the car before calling him names with lipstick). a nail file).

During a conversation with Gradsky, Sasha notices the handcuffs on his car and chains himself to his hand to wait for the police, journalists and voice his complaints. Location and visual

The juicy picture, designer interiors, framing and musical design of the Russian version fully convey the atmosphere familiar to fans of the Turkish series. The places where the plot unfolds are very different for obvious reasons. So in the original, the main character lives in a comfortable house on a narrow, relief street in Istanbul, where his aunt’s authentic flower shop with many small details is also located. The Russian heroine lives in a modern Moscow residential complex with a brand new flower shop on the ground floor, which looks more like a set. Unlike Eda, who drives an old, broken-down car with flower seedlings on the roof, everything is fine with Sasha’s car – he drives around the center of Moscow in a new foreign car.

Serkan’s Art Life architectural firm has its office in the Mashattan Sitesi district of Istanbul, and Gradsky works at the Moscow Danilovskaya Factory – his company is called Stillard.

clicking sound right after startup behind glove box area

Hi All,   (2011 R/T AWD)

It started yesterday when I started the car there was a clicking sound (for about 5-8 seconds) from what sounded like behind the glove box area.

"click click click click click click click"   Its loud enough to tell there is something there clicking.

my first thought was the venting system or something was out of gear....like when you change from dash to floor.... the mechanism gears are missing/skipping.

It does this every single time I start the vehicle.   no other times,  just right after startup.   I read somewhere it could be an actuator(?)

Yep, the HVAC actuator is bad and why you hear the clicking noise.  The door isn't moving and your hearing the gear grind.

ok thanks,  yeah thats what i first thought of when i heard it,   some sort of gear grinding when something is stuck.

hard to replace or hard to get to to replace?     and what would i actually be looking for?     im sure google university can help perhaps.?

There's alot of video's on youtube to see for this.

just following up for the benefit of others, i ordered the actuator from amazon (half the price from what my auto parts retailer was selling it for) and replaced it last night. its a finicky job,  i had to contort myself across the center console and put my head down to the passenger foot-well to get a proper angle on the 2 screws. after determination, moving stuff around and scratched up hands,  i replaced the actuator motor and the problem has been fixed.

Well i am back to my older post.

So a year ago i replaced the actuator motor on passenger side.   All was fine as you can see in my last post of Feb23.2018.

   I noticed yesterday that i had my temp down to LO on both driver and passenger side (dash vents). I noticed that the driver side what blowing cool outside air,  but the passenger side was blowing hot air.

I also tested the AC.   Cold on driver side,  hot on passenger side.

So my guess is the blend door actuator is acting up again possibly?   It was a super pain in the butt job to get up in there to change it,  so i am not sure if something has come loose or faulty again. guess I should look into the one i replaced and see what is going on?    (feel free to point out the obvious.)

**Update** i replaced the one i replaced. (haha).  it actually broke the plastic gear so i popped in a new one last night and made sure everything was tight.   but that didnt solve my passenger hot air blowing while the AC was on.

i did look further up under the dash and saw TWO more actuators (passenger side) and one was working that shifts the airflow to the dash/floor,  but the other,  that seems to shift hot to cold was NOT moving.   it appears to be the exact same actuator motor and somewhat ok to get at to replace.   2 screws and a clip in plug.

i will order another motor and replace when i can before the sickly hot humid Canadian summer hits.  

just a thought yes oem parts are more $$ than part stores or eBay but they usually are better quality and since the one you already replaced has broke a yr later,you might want to spend the $$ on the better part
