Step back 90+ years to an era when Big Band leaders were king and “talkie” motion pictures were the latest fad. Walk the back halls and dressing areas where world-famous musicians and Hollywood legends prepared for the performances that would make the Catalina Casino one of the most exciting entertainment venues in the country.

Explore the places most locals have never been: The Catalina Casino building is a working theater, ballroom, and concert hall to this day. Focusing on the cultural history of the building, this one-of-a-kind tour brings you unprecedented access to backstage areas that were closed to the public for more than 70 years. You will experience this historic building like never before. Visit the green rooms used by Errol Flynn and Cary Grant, walk across the stage where Benny Goodman played before thousands of adoring fans, and see the editing room where Cecil B. DeMille viewed the rushes of the day’s movie shoot.

Enjoy an intimate casino tour experience: To make the most of your time in the building, we keep the tour group small – under 25 guests. To make the most of your visit your ticket may include extra time in the building based on the daily schedule.* *Includes general Casino admission during scheduled business hours. Hours and availability may vary daily based on special events and maintenance closures.

California Through My Lens

Touring the Historic Casino on Catalina Island

The island of Catalina, off the coast of Southern California, has been a popular spot for weekend adventures for over a century. The iconic building, known as the casino, is one of the island’s most well known landmarks. The casino is not a casino in the traditional sense with gambling and such, but a gathering place for people with a movie theater and one of the largest circular dances floors in the world. While it is still open for movies and events during the year, you can also tour the casino daily as well. We went for a tour on a recent trip, and I have to say it was an enjoyable experience and one I highly recommend while on the island.

Getting There

tour casino museum

To get to the island, you have to take a boat from either Long Beach or Dana Point. Once you get to Avalon, you will be able to see the famous casino building and can walk over to it for the tour.

tour casino museum

We got there about 15 minutes before the tour started and paid to join it. There were only three other people with us on the tour, but it was a weekday, so I am not sure if it is more popular on the weekends.

tour casino museum

Our tour guide started the one hour tour with some history on the large murals at the front of the Casino. These panels were designed by famous artist John Gabriel Beckman.

tour casino museum

From there, we entered into the lobby and then moved into the fantastic movie theater. This theater was immaculate with a sizeable cylindrical ceiling that helped provide amazing acoustics and that the Radio City Music Hall in New York was based on.

tour casino museum

We got to watch a short 15 minute movie while we were in the theater on the history of it, and it was a fun way to get a better understanding of the area and to experience seeing a movie there.

tour casino museum

From the theater, we walked up to the second floor on the slanted cement pathways that resembled what you would find in a baseball stadium (the creator was William Wrigley Jr. from Wrigley Feild).

tour casino museum

The next stop was a visit to the famous ballroom, and it was just as impressive as you would imagine.

tour casino museum

The 20,000 foot circular ballroom is gigantic (it is the world’s largest circular ballroom), and I have to imagine the parties in here are pretty special.

tour casino museum

The ceiling and chandelier are also impressive with an art deco style that I spent a lot of time admiring.

tour casino museum

For our last stop on the tour, we got to go out on the balcony and overlook the city of Avalon.

tour casino museum

It was a fantastic last stop as the views were awe-inspiring and were worth the price of admission for me. The tour guide gave us a lot of time to take photos out here before we starting walking back down to the lobby.

tour casino museum

This is a great tour and a fun way to experience the history of Catalina Island. I highly recommend you go on it if you are into this type of thing and let me know what you think in the comments.

The Haunting

Ghost Hunters investigated Saratoga Springs' Canfield Casino in 2010. The investigation was prompted by reports of unexplained phenomena in the 140-year-old landmark building in Congress Park.

According to Jamie Parillo, Executive Director of the Saratoga Springs History Museum, while unusual events had taken place sporadically in the building in recent years, they accelerated after the opening of an exhibition of antique clothing once owned and worn by members of some of Saratoga Springs most prominent first families, now all deceased.

Featuring three floors of exhibits as well as dynamic programs throughout the year, the Saratoga Springs History Museum welcomes visitors and members to learn more about this famous city and the people that made it so.

8 Best Car Museums in Las Vegas (Check Out These Sweet Rides!)

tour casino museum

Las Vegas may be best known for our world-class hotels and casinos, but did you know that we have several awesome over-the-top car museums as well? So if you’re thinking about booking a trip, and you love classic automobiles, you will want to check out one or more of these museums while you’re here.

Please enable JavaScript

Humix

The eight best car museums in Las Vegas are:

Inside this article:

1. Nostalgia Street Rods

(This article may contain affiliate links, which means we might earn a small commission if you click and make a purchase. Thank you!)

Nostalgia Street Rods feature an extensive (150+) private collection of classic cars from the early 1900s to 1965.

The museum’s name is slightly misleading, though, because they showcase far more than hot rods. When you browse around this famous museum, you’ll notice plenty of other unique items including:

  • Automobile memorabilia
  • Other celebrity-signed items

To visit Nostalgia Street Rods, you’ll need to schedule a tour by calling ahead or booking online. Tours take place on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm, with limited hours over the weekends.

They also offer a VIP tour, which is extended, more personalized, and allows you to browse the vehicles at your own pace.

Whether you choose the regular or VIP tour, the guides are incredibly knowledgeable about the display vehicles and can answer any questions you have.

Nostalgia Street Rods host an annual car show, which is worth attending if you’re in Vegas during November. Members of the public are invited to park their classic cars, trucks, or motorbikes in the museum’s vast parking lot, and there is usually a huge turnout.

It’s the ideal opportunity to discuss the classic cars’ ins and outs with owners and enjoy a relaxing day out.

  • Address: 5375 Cameron St M, Las Vegas ( map )
  • Hours: Weekdays 9-5 pm

2. Hollywood Cars Museum

If you’ve ever wondered what happened to a car in a movie, chances are it ended up at Hollywood Cars Museum on Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas. This museum is regarded as Sin City’s most exciting classic car museum as they showcase over 100 cars that are featured in popular movies at their 30,000 sq ft (2,787 sqm) premises.

A few examples of famous vehicles that you can spot here are:

  • The Batmobile
  • Herbie the Love Bug
  • The Death Car from the Bonnie and Clyde movie
  • Bugs Bunny’s rabbit car

Other highlights at Hollywood Cars Museum include the vintage Vespa exhibit and Liberace’s classic car collection.

Guests can easily spend the whole afternoon being amazed at Hollywood Cars Museum’s many famous vehicles, and there are plenty of photo opportunities. Even if you’re not a car enthusiast, visiting Hollywood Cars Museum is an excellent idea as it appeals to almost everyone who’s ever watched a movie.

Regular admission is $20, and kids under 16 get in for free, as long as an adult accompanies them. The museum is open the whole week and operates from 10 am to 5 pm. There is a large parking lot, and you can easily spend at least two hours here.

Try not to leave Vegas without checking out this iconic car museum.

Check for Hollywood Cars Museum discount tickets at Groupon.

  • Address: 5115 Dean Martin Dr., Las Vegas ( map )
  • Hours: Every day 10-5 pm

3. Carroll Shelby Las Vegas Car Museum

Carroll Shelby Las Vegas Car Museum is not your average auto museum. This hidden gem pays homage to the racing car driver, Carrol Shelby , who was heavily involved with enhancing Mustang and AC Cobra cars for the Ford Company.

Here, you can admire Shelby’s first enhanced Cobra, over 30 additional Shelby vehicles, and a broad range of Mustangs. Favorites include the Cobra GT500KR and the Shelby GT500 Super Snake .

The museum was opened in 2013, and its spacious, 15,000 sq ft (1393.5 sqm) heritage center makes for a thoroughly enjoyable visit. Shelby fans will love their store that sells unique Shelby collectibles, gifts, and clothing.

After admiring the cars on display (free), you can take an exciting VIP tour of their adjacent production facility. You will learn all about Shelby’s production processes and will get the opportunity to view them first-hand.

The guided tour needs to be booked in advance. If you’re just visiting the museum, however, you can buy tickets at the door.

The museum has free self-guided tours from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm during the week, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays, and 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sundays.

The Carroll Shelby Las Vegas Car Museum is located at 6405 Ensworth Street, not far from Harry Reid International Airport (formerly McCarran Airport). Most people drive when visiting the museum, and there is free parking available.

  • Address: 6405 Ensworth St, Las Vegas ( map )
  • Hours: Weekdays 9:30-5 pm, Saturday 8-5 pm, Sunday 10-4 pm

4. Wynn Las Vegas Car Museum

Check out the selection of Ferraris at Wynn Las Vegas.

If you’re staying at The Wynn or a nearby hotel, you shouldn’t leave Vegas without visiting the Wynn Las Vegas Car Exhibit. This one’s kind of weird as it’s part museum and part auto dealership.

The entrance fee is $10, and you can view their exclusive collection of luxury Maseratis and Ferraris. Also included with each vehicle display is the sales price as you have the option of buying any of the vehicles as they have a sales office on-site, too.

Located within the hotel next to the casino, this museum comprises two floors, and it typically takes at least an hour to view every exotic car .

The cars on display change every few weeks. You can expect an exciting variety of Ferrari and Mustang models, from the more affordable base models to the most unaffordable cars for most folks.

Museum guests are not allowed to take photographs, but they can pay for a picture while sitting in one of the vehicles.

5. Count Kustoms Car Museum in Vegas

Count Kustoms Car Museum is not located on the Las Vegas Strip, but it is worth a short drive if you love unique vehicles.

In addition to the museum, Count Kustoms also has a reclamation and customization shop where they modify and improve hot rods and choppers. Although guests are not allowed on the shop floor, it’s possible to catch a glimpse of the staff at work, which is incredibly interesting.

This museum is on South Highland Drive, has a large parking lot, and is not far from Circus Circus. It’s open each day of the week from 10 am to 4 pm.

On display is an extensive collection of:

  • Exotic cars

Photographs are allowed, but the museum doesn’t allow touching or video recordings. Many visitors do not realize that Count Kustoms is the film set of the “Counting Cars” TV show , which is one of the museum’s many highlights.

They have two options for visitors, including the free tour, where you can view the personal hot rod collection of the Count himself, or the special VIP tour experience for about $95.

The VIP tour sounds pricey, but it includes:

  • A ride in a customized minibus.
  • Narration by the museum’s owner.
  • Visits to Count’s Kustoms Shop, Shelby American, and Nostalgia Street Rods.
  • A $20 voucher toward any purchase in Count’s Kustoms Gift Shop.

Book a Tour at Counts Kustoms

  • Address: 2714 S Highland Dr, Las Vegas ( map )
  • Hours: Everday 10-4 pm

6. Hot Rod City

Hot Rod City is situated at 5115 Dean Martin Drive and is not far from Luxor Hotel & Casino and Excalibur Hotel & Casino.

Entrance is $15 for adults and is free for kids under 16, as long as a paying adult accompanies them. You can, however, often find discounted tickets on sites like Groupon , and it’s worth checking before you go.

The front section of Hot Rod City consists of a car dealership showroom. Here, you can browse the classic Mustangs, Porsche, Camaros, and Hot Rods for sale.

Hot Rod City was formed by Florida-based classic motorcycle and car enthusiast Michael Dezer. This successful real estate developer has been collecting classic vehicles since the 1970s and many of his favorite cars and bikes are now displayed in this Vegas museum.

Browsing through the display, you will likely recognize at least a few cars from the movies. The Harley Davidson driven by Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator, the Robocop police car, and the Beverly Hills jalopy are some of the famous items on display.

The only complaint received about Hot Rod City is the lack of display change and, if you’ve been here once, there is no need to visit a second time.

Hot Rod City is well worth the $15, especially since you’ll be able to take photographs next to many famous cars and bikes.

  • Address: 5115 Dean Martin Dr #905, Las Vegas, ( map )

7. Liberace Garage

Liberace Garage is a must-see Las Vegas attraction whether you’re a Liberace fan or just a fan of excessive glitz. Much of the city’s ostentatiousness and excessiveness comes from Liberace himself, making a trip to this car museum almost essential.

Liberace, a famous American pianist, and performer used customized vehicles extensively in his stage shows, and the Liberace Garage showcases many of these classic cars.

Known for his flamboyant and over-the-top style, the King of Bling’s vehicles are no different and need to be seen to be believed. Many are studded with precious stones, painted in bright colors, and have whimsical patterns.

Liberace’s famous Swarovski Roadster and his Rolls Royces are on display.

These special cars are all preserved by the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts . Apart from Liberace’s vehicles, there are plenty of other Liberace-related items on display, including art, photographs, clothing, and artifacts.

After browsing the museum, you may want to take a look at the on-site gift shop that sells some excellent souvenirs, gifts, and Liberace collectibles.

Liberace Garage is open only during the weekends from 10 am to 5 pm. You can find it at the Hollywood Cars Museum on Dean Martin Drive, where plenty of parking is available. If you want to host a private party or event, you can hire Liberace Garage for a unique experience.

8. WelderUp

If you are looking for a unique car museum in Las Vegas featuring exciting designs, WelderUp might be perfect for you. This small museum has grunge-themed, custom rat rods on display that have been featured on Discovery Channel’s long-running Rat Rods show .

A tour of WeldUp includes a walk around their showroom floor, where you can view a collection of rat rods from the owner’s collection.

They also have a small gift shop selling WelderUp merchandise such as t-shirts, jackets, and baseball caps. It’s difficult to find these items elsewhere, so a quick browse around the gift shop is worth it.

You can find WelderUp at 3160 South Highland Drive, and tickets are only $5. Kids under 12 get in for free as long as an adult supervises them.

  • Address: 3160 S Highland Dr. Suite D, Las Vegas, ( map )
  • Hours: Weekdays 10-3 pm, Saturday & Sunday 10-4 pm

Rusk County museum honoring legacy of oil boom announces closure

An East Texas museum that honors the legacy from the oil boom announced its physical building will be closing.

The Gaston Museum, located in the rural community Joinerville in Rusk County, was once the largest rural school during the 1930s oil boom. The Gaston School was built in 1925 to house 80 students, but the school expanded significantly once oil was discovered. Elvis Presley even performed at the Gaston School Auditorium in 1955. The school ultimately merged with New London in 1965 to form West Rusk County Consolidated ISD.

On Sunday, the Gaston Museum said on its Facebook page that after "very long and stressful deliberation and prayer" the board voted to close the museum.

"We do not take this responsibility lightly," the post read. "The current and previous board members have devoted precious time and sacrifice to remain as long as we have."

The director shared that the Gaston School exhibit and artifacts will be moving to the Kilgore Oil Museum to its own permanent exhibit.  The move won't happen until the end of the year. The Gaston's veterans room artifacts will go to the local VFW if they accept the items. If they're not taken there, the items will go to the Depot Museum in Henderson along with all of the other exhibits in the building.

Veteran photos will go into albums at the Kilgore Oil Museum for visitors of the school exhibit to see the veterans. There are some things that will need to worked out once the exhibits are moved over the next eight to 12 months, the director said.

The museum will stay present on Facebook and its website, gastonmuseum.org , with a virtual tour and YouTube videos about the community.

"Many hours of hard work and wonderful financial donations from all of you has kept us going this long. I personally have spent 15 years now assisting or serving and feel as a piece of my life is going away.  I know you feel the same," the Facebook post read. "My family just like yours were centered in this community and the Gaston Museum has carried a legacy of our families through 30 years of honor and memories of an era like no other."

Those wanting to have one last tour can call the museum at (903) 722-9016 to set one up by no later than 4 p.m. on April 30.

  • WesternGardener 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Where are the refunds I booked a private tour for Kamchatka with UVisit Russia for several people (40). Each person paid a deposit (through PayPal) of US$15.30. On June 22, those that first cancelled received a refund. However, I've sent email after email to this company's rep requesting refunds for 18 persons. To date, September 4, 2020, those 18 individuals have not received refunds. Not happy. • Dmitry F 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles U Visit Russia company way to go to see Russia Great people working for U visit Russia. I had pleasure to work with Maria Nerkrasova who arranged for our group of 14 Americans to visit Sergiev Posad (u must visit that monastery). She arranged for us tour guide Svetalna in Sergiev Posad - who provided us with excellent information. We visited Matroshka factory where we meet lady who's family been doing matreshka art for over 50 years, we had fabulous lunch with Russian traditional non alcoholic molt drink - kvass at Trapeznaya restaurant. We had awesome driver Ilya who drove our group from Moscow to Sergiev Posad and back with smile and confidence. Our group of 14 visitors from US can't say enough good things about U Visit Russia. Great company, great and caring people to work with like Maria, Anna, and their guides. If you decide to utilize U Visit Russia when you in Moscow ask them to secure Svetlana to be your tour guide, when you in St. Petersburg ask for Victoria to be your tour guide. When I come back to Russia again, i will use U Visit Russia company again 100%. Thanks, D Read more Written February 28, 2020
  • Scott M 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fantastic Guide, Great Experience Today’s tour of the Kremlin, Dimond Fund and Armoury was absolutely fantastic. My guide Irina was incredibly knowledgeable full of fun facts, humour and a love of her nation it’s history and treasures. She even went out of her way to make sure that I knew the meaning behind a series of Icons in church’s and historical objects in the armoury. 100% recommend this tour. Even if it’s just to skip the 50 line to hope to get tickets at the Kremlins offices. Read more Written January 5, 2020
  • 131natashal 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Do NOT purchase from this company!!!!!!! I bought a tour ticket for my daughter on her first visit to Moscow. We were asked to send over her passport information, and they even called us and demanded we send it right away (we were out and wi-fi connection was spotty). We sent it and everything seemed fine. On Thursday we got to the theatre and everyone that worked there told us the tickets were FAKE, they’d never seen anything like these, etc etc. I had to pay the tour fee (2000 rubles) AGAIN to buy ANOTHER TICKET there. Only after the tour had finished did they actually send us the PDF files that they had claimed to send earlier (which they did not). This also happened to TWO OTHER people on the same tour, they received their PDFs from Viator at the end of the tour. Save yourself 4000 rubles and the headache and just buy directly from the Bolshoi Theatre. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read more Written November 28, 2019
