The Skechers Go Golf Elite-Tour SL golf shoe provides outstanding comfort from heel to toe.  Lime green outsole looks cool and provides great traction.

Introduction

Having conducted Plugged In Golf’s reviews of various Skecher golf shoe models for several years, in 2020 I lined up the rest of the writing crew for some fresh perspectives.   Some variation of “Wow, these really are super comfortable” texts soon came across my phone from each of them.

When I saw the Elite-Tour SL in the 2021 Skecher Go Golf lineup, I was quick to get in the review queue again myself.  Slipping them on the first time, a “welcome back” image flashed across my mind.

The Go Golf Elite-Tour SL leather uppers have a clean, contemporary look highlighted by embossed dots and a subtle, unassuming “S” on the outside of the heel.  The thick white midsole offers a great transition to the bold lime green outsole.  Even in the white and black colorways, Skechers utilizes vibrant outsole colors that give the shoes personality. 

With comfort being the focus of Skecher shoes, I wasn’t surprised that my feet felt fully enveloped in comfort.   The Resamax insole was both cushiony yet supportive.  There was ample room in the toe box to spread and wiggle my toes.  Throughout the interior of the Elite-Tour SL, a soft liner makes going sockless a viable option.

Low cut around my ankle, ample cushioning kept my heel comfortably in place.  I found the shoes very true to my normal size .  For golfers with wider feet, the shoes are also available in extra wide.

Performance

Calling the Go Golf Elite-Tour SL spikeless does them a disservice.  True, they don’t have cleats, but the outsole is one of the most aggressive I’ve encountered .  I was willing to drive to the golf course wearing the shoes, but I wouldn’t want to walk around on someone’s nice hardwood floors in them.  The four sections down the front center are reminiscent of a meat tenderizer tool.

Out on the golf course, the Elite-Tour SL shoes provided ample traction .  The width of the soles offered a solid base to build my swing from.  There was decent lateral support, and the fifth generation ULTRA GO midsole was responsive to motion transitions.    The shoes come with a 2 year waterproof warranty.

As pleasurable at the Skecher Go Golf Elite-Tour SL are to slip on, it’s really the fact that your feet still feel good at the end of a long day of golf that’s the headline.  At $130, the Elite-Tour SL offers a solid value in an attractive leather golf shoe.  Excellent comfort and performance make them a great buy.

This shoe model is not available in “wide” as the story indicates-at least from the Sketchers website.

correction- The color gray described in this review is not available in “wide.” Two other colors of this model are available in “wide.”

I have diabetes and had tried 2 pair of the Skechers Go Pro. My feet still hurt badly. Are these better for diabetics ?

Apologies Tom, but I don’t have any insight for you. In general, I’ve found fairly common comfort among the Skechers I’ve worn.

These are not diabetic shoes. I use sketchers walking shoe as i walk around during the day. I just remove the incerts sole in sketchers like I do any other shoe. I have my own incerts made for me from kiaser. You would think someone out there would make diabetic golf shoes. Only millions of us.

Have many different brands of golf shoes , nothing comes close to my Skechers, No pressure points , I have 8 pairs of shoes , but Skechers are my favourite, Have several pairs of relaxed foot wear by Skechers but my golf shoes are the best !

I have 2 pair of Skecher golf shoes. Very comfortable straight line walking but lack side wall support when on hilly courses. I played tennis for many years KSWISS had great side wall support in their lace system.

I have a narrow foot, size 13. Would this be a wise choice?

If you are looking for all-out comfort, these are certainly a strong contender. They also have enough structure and grip to stand up well to the specific challenge of swinging a golf club in less than perfect underfoot conditions. At under £150, we think these offer good value for money.

When it comes to spikeless comfort, Skechers golf shoes have always impressed. The brand clearly understands how to make shoes that can be worn for hours straight out of the box and the Elite Tour SL model is no different. In fact, this was exactly how we tested them at Essendon Country Club.

The combination of the Resamax insole, UltraFlight cushioning and the flexible outsole make these incredibly easy to wear. They offer trainer-like comfort but with enough structure to provide you with a stable base to hit from.

With such a high level of cushioning within the shoe, we felt there was a slight trade-off in terms of breathability but for us, the positives out-weighed the negatives on this front. The fit was generous and we think they are some of the best golf shoes for wide feet . In particular, there is plenty of room in the toe area which contributed to the comfort we experienced during our test day. 

The Skechers Go Golf Elite Tour SL provided plenty of grip throughout the round, albeit we tested them on a perfectly sunny Spring day. The range of traction points on the outsole suggest these would continue to perform well in the wet. We also liked the accent of bright blue colouring on the sole which gave an otherwise simple and somewhat classic design a modern edge. 

It is also worth mentioning that these shoes have a waterproof leather upper and feature the Skechers H2GO Shield seam-sealed waterproof protection which should help the Elite Tour SL protect your feet in wetter conditions.

There might more refined spikeless golf shoes on the market but for under £150, we think these are an excellent all-rounder. The sometimes contrasting demands of comfort and stability are perfectly balanced in the Skechers Go Golf Elite Tour SL and because of the simple aesthetics, we think they look smart both on and off the course.

The LIV Series, the DP World Tower, and the PGA Tour have been doing the rounds for the probable merger in the future. In the middle of this another news has flared up, a master plan by Jay Monahan of the PGA Tour and Yassir Al-Rumayyan of Saudi Arabia – Elite Global Golf Tour!

Elite Global Golf Tour would be comprised of 18 tournaments across the DP World Tour, PGA Tour, and the LIV Golf series. This is expected to be launched in 2025 it’s supposed to be a part of the peace deal with Saudi Arabia PIF.

What is the Elite Global Golf Tour?

In the Elite Global Golf Tour, the top golfers of the world would be invited as a part of the extraordinary peace deal with Saudi Arabia is PIF.

There might be a united global schedule that would involve tournaments from all three tours, the framework for which was probably signed in June. However, despite this merger, the three tours will continue to operate independently till the next year.

It is clear that these changes will take place in the year 2025. The framework agreement was unclear and light on detail but the rumour has it that Saudi investment will be close to £2 billion.

Another news doing the rounds is an umbrella organization which is proposed to be run by PGA Tour to control all three other tours.

Placing PGA Tour on a pedestal over the three tours?

Unlike the current scenario wearing the players are supposed to pick the tour and stick to that specific tour, the players will be allowed to appear on any of the three tours. In addition to this, they can play the series of 18 events with the four majors being additionally carved out, with invitations only extended to the top-notch players.

12 out of the 18 tournaments will take place in America. This is a step to place the PGA Tour higher above the others. The balance three events will be European and LIV events. As a step to further incentivize these 18 tournaments and to prove that they are for the elitist of the golfers the prize money would be around £20 million per event.

This is also a step towards reducing the discrepancy and the disparity with respect to prize money on the three tours. The decision-making power now gives more weightage to the golfers as compared to the independent directors thanks to the addition of Tiger Woods. His addition has helped golfers outnumber the other board members.
