Few People Know There’s A Beautiful State Park Hiding In This Tiny Kentucky Town

General Burnside Island State Park in Kentucky offers a variety of outdoor activities including camping, boating, golfing, and fishing, making it a perfect summer destination.

Tiny, charming towns are scattered throughout the state and some of them contain an extra treat, like a beautiful Kentucky State Park . The tiny town of Burnside is one such place, and few state parks can hold a candle to the beauty of General Burnside Island State Park in Kentucky.

Welcome to General Burnside Island State Park, a wonderful place for camping, boating, golfing, fishing, picnicking, and so much more. This park was named after Ambrose Burnside, a Civil War general who once patrolled this 400-acre island looking out for Confederate soldiers.

The first thing you'll notice is the beautiful lake that is completely surrounded by lush forests and locals love to bring their boats out for a spin, paddle around in kayaks, or simply go for a refreshing swim.

This park boasts 94 campsites with utility hookups as well as two central service buildings with restrooms and showers and a dump station. These are open seasonally from mid-March to mid-November and are lovely spots to feel the lake breeze, see gorgeous forest views, and stargaze at night.

For golf aficionados, there is an 18-hole regulation golf course with riding carts, pull carts, and a pro shop. Imagine fishing, golfing, hiking, and camping all at the same place!

If you have a boat, bring it! If not, there's a marina with rental fishing boats, slips, pontoon boats, ski boats, and houseboats for you to enjoy. You'll find a six-lane launching ramp and be able to enjoy a sunny summer day out on the lake.

You'll find spacious, open meadows where you can play frisbee, sunbathe, and have a lovely picnic.

There are hiking trails throughout the park where you can see various wildlife like turkeys, ducks, foxes, deer, and more.

It's amazing how much fun and relaxation can be packed into one small island in the middle of Kentucky. It's the perfect place to bring the family for a summer adventure. Plan your trip today!

This is Lake Tahoe, an American icon that sits on the state line between California and Nevada, surrounded by the majestic, snowcapped peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Located at 6,225 feet above sea level, Lake Tahoe is the highest alpine lake in the country and the second deepest, and touted as one of the most beautiful places in the U.S.

This beguiling body of water is Dale Hollow Lake, a 28,000-acre lake that sits right on the state line of Kentucky and Tennessee and is widely considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the region.

Part of the eponymous Kentucky State Resort Park and surrounded by towering hills and dotted with marinas and cabin getaways, this lake is a worthy destination for a lake retreat in Kentucky.

Just like its Tahoe counterpart, Dale Hollow Lake is known for its startlingly clear-blue waters. During the summer, you'll often be able to see your feet while swimming around. If you have an issue with swimming in murky water, you just may fall in love with this scenic lake!

The lake is beautiful from all angles, especially the vistas afforded from higher vantage points. There are over 15 miles of designated multi-purpose trails at this Kentucky State Park, open for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking -- unless otherwise posted.

Prefer some time on the water? Rent a pedal boat and cruise around the 3.5-acre lake, taking in the lovely landscape that surrounds you.

Regular primitive campsites come equipped with a fire ring, picnic table, and access to restrooms. Lakeside campsites are also available and you really can't beat the views!
