Exciting news for Pokémon fans. The Pokémon Company has secured a deal to allow the original Pokémon anime to be free to access in the near future. The Japanese franchise landed a deal with the Canadian brand licensing company, Wildbrain, to distribute the show in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The original Pokémon anime aired in 1997, spanning over 20 seasons and 1000+ episodes. Now fans will have the opportunity to easily access the show once more without having to pay for streaming services.

According to Wildbrain , 22 seasons of the Pokémon anime will be launched via a new single-IP FAST (free ad-supported television) channel. These seasons will cover Ash's journey from the very beginning in 1997, all the way to the Sun and Moon era that finished in 2019. Unfortunately, this deal does not include Ash's journey to the Galar region via the Journeys, Master Journeys , and Ultimate Journeys.

The Pokémon Company International's Senior Director of Media Licensing, Melissa Pearce , commented on the new deal, believing that this partnership with WildBrain will introduce the anime to a new generation of trainers:

“We always strive to deliver the joy of Pokémon to more fans around the world, and WildBrain is the perfect partner to help us introduce a new generation of Trainers to the beloved Pokémon animation. FAST provides an ideal platform for the Pokémon brand to connect with wider audiences, offering accessible and curated content in a family-friendly environment.”

The Pokémon anime has been distributed to numerous licensing and media companies over the years. In 1998, 4Kids Entertainment distributed the show for North America up until 2006. In 2020, Netflix now has distribution rights and it's currently the only place where fans can stream Pokémon Horizons: The Series .

'Pokémon' Is a Franchise Juggernaut

While the anime first came out in 1997, the Pokémon franchise first came into existence in 1996 via video games for the Gameboy Color. Each new installment follows a similar premise - a young kid (mainly 10 years old), leaves home to travel the world with their team of Pokémon, fighting gym leaders, completing the Pokédex, stopping evil teams, and becoming the very best, like no one ever was.

The Japanese juggernaut has also expanded to the competitive scene through global esports and TCG tournaments. The Pokémon Worlds event took place in Hawaii on August 16 to 18, where players all over the world competed in the TCG, VGC, Pokémon GO , and Pokémon Unite . The event will return to America next year in Anaheim, California.

Pokémon has become one of the highest-grossing media franchises, with an estimated revenue of $98.8 billion in 2019, and its films grossing over $1.156 billion at the worldwide box office . There is currently no date as to when the 22 seasons of Pokémon will be released and where they can be accessed. But fans can watch the newest season, Pokémon Horizons: The Series on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates.

Pokémon (1997)

Ash Ketchum, his yellow pet Pikachu, and his human friends explore a world of powerful creatures.

Pokémon TCG Greninja Ex Ultra-Premium Collection Cards, Release Info, & What's Included

Everything included in the pokémon tcg: surging sparks elite trainer box, pokémon tcg's newest ex card breaks a 5-year tradition.

All 30 of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Halloween special cards have been revealed ahead of their official release. The Trick Or Trade cards are scheduled to hit stores on August 30 , but images of every card in the special collection have already appeared online. The upcoming cards feature spooky Halloween-themed Pokémon and designs, along with several extra-special holographics, like in previous years.

The 2024 Pokémon TCG Trick or Trade BOOster Bundle was revealed by PokéBeach , with images displaying the 30 cards. This year's card pack features reprints from the 2023 set, with a cute smiling Pikachu pumpkin stamp on the bottom right of each card's image. This is the third year that the Pokémon TCG has released special Halloween edition cards. Each pack contains three cards, making them fun little treats to give away on Halloween in an effort to get more kids into the game. Of course, the packs have also become collectibles in their own right among the TCG community.

A new Greninja Ex Ultra-Premium Collection for the Pokémon Trading Card Game is expected later this year, perfect for fans of the Ninja Pokémon.

The 2024 Trick Or Trade Pokémon Card Set Includes 10 Holo Cards

Fans divided over use of cosmos holofoil.

The new collection of spooky Pokémon cards will include 10 special holographic cards: Sinistcha, Teal Mask Ogerpon, Pikachu, Mimikyu, Munkidori, Fezandipiti, Flutter Mane, Okidogi, Gengar, and Darkrai. For the first time in the trading card game's history, the Halloween-themed special cards will utilize cosmos holofoil . Last year's printing also had 10 holo cards, but they used reverse holo with yellow and gray holo borders, instead.

Some fans worry that the cosmos-style holo will become overused, while others welcome its use, asserting that it makes the cards more special. The special type of holographic makes it seem like the Pokémon is floating in a galaxy of shimmering stars. In the above article's comments, PokéBeach webmaster Water Pokémon Master shows they're a big fan, saying, " You can't overuse galaxy holofoil. In fact, they should use it for EVERYTHING. "

The Pokémon Trading Card Game community is buzzing with activity lately. This early BOOster Bundle reveal follows more exciting TCG news, like the return of Black Kyurem to the game for the first time in over five years. Several upcoming Pokémon card packs are also on the way, including the exciting Surging Spark s card set , coming to the West in November. Until then, fans can get their hands on the Trick or Trade bundle in participating stores. The packs will cost $14.99 and consist of 35 mini-packs, each containing two regular cards and one holographic card.

Spanning over twenty-five years, Pokemon, known as Pocket Monsters in Japan, is the multimedia franchise created jointly by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. Conceptualized by Satoshi Tajiri in association with Ken Sugimori and Junichi Masuda, Pokemon is set in fictional worlds where people live together with tamable creatures known as Pokemon. Humans who catch, raise, and battle the creatures are known as Pokemon Trainers. They head out on extensive journeys across their continents to raise their Pokemon with the ultimate goal of competing in tournaments to become the champion. Pokemon spans several massive properties, from a long-running animated series to a successful trading card game, to the medium that started it all, video games. In addition, Pokemon began the "two-game" trend where two versions of a game would release and include different Pokemon/features between the versions, encouraging players to meet up with others and trade so they could "catch 'em all."
