It is a comprehensive policy that covers on-trip medical expenses, lost baggage, missed connecting flights, compassionate visit, etc.

Schengen travel insurance

The Schengen countries are a group of 26 Central European countries. If you are considering a vacation to a Schengen country, you must first acquire Schengen travel insurance. The policy protects you financially in the event of an emergency.

To use this tool, you will need to enter information such as your age, destination, number of travellers and trip duration.

Tips to lower your travel insurance premium

If you are fond of exploring new places across the globe, a multi-trip policy can help you save on insurance premium.

When you buy travel insurance online, evaluate and compare the various plans as per your needs and budget.

Claim procedure for travel insurance policies

Even if you have the best travel insurance policy, dealing with unpleasant incidents on your trip might be difficult if you are unaware of the claim procedure. To initiate a claim during an emergency on your trip, you will first need to inform us over the call or via an email. Post intimation, you will have to provide the supporting documents related to your claim. Following your submission, we will evaluate the details and the documents and come back on your claim.

Things to consider while buying travel insurance online

When purchasing travel insurance online, keep the purpose of your trip in mind. Fill in your details and compare travel insurance plans to select an appropriate one from those we offer. If you travel frequently, a multi-trip policy would be excellent for you.

Before securing your trip, plan how you want to spend your holiday; this will help you determine the scope of your policy's coverage.

Health comes first, but falling sick should come last while on your trip. But if you still end up being unwell on your trip, it’ll help to have a travel insurance covering your medical expenses in a foreign land.

Check and compare the claim settlement ratio of various insurers when you buy travel insurance online.

When securing your trip, check the swiftness of the insurer's claim settlement process.

What is an International Travel Insurance Policy?

An international travel insurance policy is your trustworthy, reliable and mandatory companion for your trip abroad. Imagine this: You are travelling to a foreign country for leisure or personal business or studies. You don't want anything to ruin your trip and taint your happy memories. But unexpected things happen. You may fall sick or lose your passport or miss your flight! An international travel health insurance policy helps you deal with financial stress and worries caused by such situations. It protects you in unexpected and untimely situations in an unfamiliar city with language barriers. An international travel medical insurance plan covers flight delays, lost or delayed baggage, lost passport, trip interruptions, medical expenses and trip cancellations.

Reliance General Insurance is here to ensure you have a wonderful stay and worry-free travel experience. With premium starting at ₹306*, our international travel insurance plans will help you deal with any baggage or trip or medical contingencies. Be it a delay of checked-in baggage, lost baggage, cancelled flight, delayed flight, missed connecting flights, passport loss, emergency hospitalisation, trip interruption or trip cancellation, we will be there for you.

Why Do You Need Travel Insurance When Going Abroad?

Travel insurance is an insurance policy that provides financial protection to travellers during their international stay or trips. Imagine you’re all set to enjoy a vacation at an exotic destination and unexpected events disrupt your travel plans: You miss your flight or have to delay your trip due to weather conditions or get hospitalised during your stay abroad due to some medical emergency. A travel insurance plan ensures that none of the trip or medical contingencies cause any financial burden to you. It covers you from the moment you reach the airport till you’re safely back to India from your trip.

Here are some key reasons why buying a travel insurance policy is important when going abroad:

Mandatory by Law

Some countries have made it mandatory for travellers to have a valid travel health insurance plan before entering their borders. For example, it is a prerequisite to purchase medical travel insurance to enter countries like Russia, Singapore, the UAE, Romania and Cuba regardless of the purpose of your visit. The main reason behind making travel insurance mandatory in some countries is to financially secure foreign visitors from unexpected events like passport loss or theft, lost or misplaced luggage, trip delay or cancellations, medical emergencies or accidents and COVID-19 like situations.

Visa Requirements

While there are countries that offer visa on arrival to India, many countries require you to buy a travel insurance policy to initiate the visa application process. For example, it is compulsory to have travel medical insurance with a minimum medical coverage of EUR 30,000 to get a Schengen Visa. This will allow you freely in any of the Schengen countries, including Switzerland, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Portugal and Denmark. Other countries where travel health insurance is mandatory for the visa process include Turkey, Czech Republic, Ecuador, UAE, etc.

Cost of Medical Treatments

Medical expenses can be quite high in foreign countries than in India. The potentially high cost of medical treatments in case of unexpected illness or injury or accidental dental issues, not only increases your financial burden but also leaves you feeling helpless during your international vacation. An international travel medical insurance plan acts as a shield against unforeseen medical bills by offering cover for emergency medical hospitalisation, the cost of transporting the nearest hospital or back to India, and dental treatment due to an accident on your trip.

Coverages Offered

Besides offering international medical coverage, international travel insurance policies offer coverage for various baggage and trip-related contingencies. You lose your checked-in baggage or someone mistakenly takes your luggage or the airline delays or misdirects your checked-in baggage. Similarly, you may miss your connecting flight to your final travel destination or your trip may get delayed or interrupted or cancelled because of conditions that are beyond your control. All of these situations are covered under our plan.

How to Choose an International Travel Insurance Policy?

Selecting the right overseas travel insurance is a crucial for securing your trip abroad. It is important to choose an international travel insurance policy that offers comprehensive coverage and high sum insured instead of a cheap international travel insurance that doesn’t protect you adequately. So, how do you choose the right online international travel insurance? Here are a few pointers for you:

Check International Travel Insurance Policy Coverage

Check if the international travel health insurance policy covers emergency medical expenses, passport loss, baggage delays, baggage loss, trip cancellations, trip delays, trip interruptions, etc. We recommend you to look for comprehensive coverage when buying an international travel insurance online. For example, if you face a situation where the airline has misplaced your checked-in luggage, then our Reliance Travel Care Policy will help you get reimbursed for the lost baggage.

Look for Medical Emergency and Dental Treatment Covers

Best international travel insurance plans offer cover for a wide range of medical contingencies. You could get admitted in the hospital due to some accident or sudden illness and your travel plan should cover you for the hospitalisation expenses. Even if you need emergency dental treatment while on your trip then your international travel insurance should reimburse you for that. Make sure you get a plan that covers you for all of the previously mentioned scenarios (check out the Reliance Travel Care Policy for all these covers)

Choose Need-Based Sum Insured

Every international travel insurance plan has a Sum Insured, which is the maximum amount that an insurance company will pay toward a claim. The higher the Sum Insured, the better financial protection you get against medical emergencies and other trip-related contingencies. While we recommend you to choose an online international travel insurance policy that offers a high Sum Insured of up to $500,000, you need to select a plan based on your requirements.

Evaluate Claim Settlement Process

You should always check the travel insurer’s claim settlement ratio and process before buying international travel insurance online. A higher settlement ratio and a smoother claim procedure will ensure your claim is successfully processed.

How to Buy International Travel Insurance Policy Online?

Buying international travel insurance for your upcoming trip isn’t as easy as buying your favourite chocolate. You need to choose the right travel insurance that meets your requirements while giving comprehensive protection during your stay abroad. That’s why we’ve made it simple to buy overseas travel insurance online – just follow our step-by-step guide and you’re good to go.

Step 2: Choose your preferred plan type and click on ‘Buy Now’.

Step 3: Check your premium details, enter your personal details and choose your preferred mode of payment.

Step 4: Get your international travel health insurance policy for your upcoming trip.

Factors that Affect Your Travel Insurance Premiums

Your international travel insurance premium is influenced by a combination of factors like the country you’re travelling to, your age and the duration of your trip. Check out the list below to know in detail how each factor affects your premiums:

Your Travel Destination

The country you choose as your travel destination affects your international travel insurance premium as each country carries its own risk, which the insurer assesses. Therefore, your premium will go higher if you’re travelling across USA and Canada in comparison to travelling to Asian destinations.

Length of Your Stay

Your international travel insurance premium is affected by your trip duration. A shorter trip results in lower premiums because the chances of risk is lower and the opposite applies for longer trips where the risk is higher. If you spend more time in your holiday destination, there is a higher risk of injury or illness since you’ll be out travelling to enjoy your holiday.

Age of Traveller(s)

The age of all travelling members plays a role in the premiums too. Older people are associated with medical higher risk as they have a high probability of having pre-existing diseases, therefore the premiums for them would be higher. On the other hand, younger travellers will have lower premiums as they are usually fitter and have a low medical risk.

Type of Insurance Plan

Different international travel health insurance plans cover different needs. If you’re a student going abroad for education, then we have an international travel insurance plan for students. If you take multiple trips in a year, then we have an annual multi-trip travel insurance plan . The premium changes based on your need and the type of insurance plan for that need.

Sum Insured

Every travel insurance policy has different plans that offer varying amounts of the Sum Insured. The Sum Insured is the maximum value that an insurance company will pay towards your claim. The claim could be related to flight delays, missed connecting flights, trip delays or interruptions, medical expenses, lost passport, loss or delay of checked-in baggage. So when the Sum Insured is high, the premium will be higher.

From the date of receipt of the last documents, it will take approximately 30 working days for the final settlement of the claim.

The claim procedure involves intimation and settlement.

The first step you take is to inform the Emergency Service Assistance Provider (EASP) by calling them on the Help Line number or via email. The hospital has to get in touch with the EASP and confirm if they want to accept the cashless facility and submit all the medical documents and bills to the EASP. Post this, the EASP will assess the claim and place a Guarantee of Pay (GoP) to the hospital.

In case the hospital does not agree to the EASP’s GoP, you can settle the bill with the hospital and later get reimbursed from Reliance General Insurance.

Do Travel Insurance Policies Provide Protection Against COVID-19?

The global travel landscape has witnessed unprecedented changes since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. With travel restrictions, quarantine mandates, and health concerns looming large, the significance of international travel insurance has come to the forefront. Many travellers are left wondering: Does travel insurance cover the uncertainties associated with COVID-19?

Understanding the Basics: What Does Travel Insurance Typically Cover?

Before delving into the specifics of COVID-19 coverage, it's essential to grasp the fundamental aspects of international travel insurance. Traditionally, travel insurance offers protection against various unforeseen events such as trip cancellations, medical emergencies, baggage loss, and travel delays. These coverages have been staples in travel insurance policies for years.

The Emergence of COVID-19 and Its Impact on Travel Insurance

As the pandemic unfolded, the travel landscape faced disruptions, prompting both insurers and travellers to re-evaluate their needs. Travel insurance providers responded by introducing new policies and adapting existing ones to address the challenges posed by the virus.

One of the primary concerns for travellers is the potential need to cancel or interrupt their trip due to COVID-19-related reasons. Standard trip cancellation coverage typically includes unforeseen illness or injury to the traveller, their travel companion, or a family member. However, international travel insurance policies may vary regarding coverage for pandemic-related cancellations.

Some insurers now offer Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) coverage as an optional add-on. CFAR allows travellers to cancel their trip for reasons not typically covered by standard policies, offering a higher degree of flexibility. It's crucial to carefully review policy details to understand the scope of coverage.

Medical Expenses and Emergency Assistance

Medical coverage has always been a vital component of international travel insurance. In the context of COVID-19, policies generally cover emergency medical expenses if a traveller contracts the virus during their trip. This includes hospitalization, doctor visits, and other necessary medical treatments. However, coverage may be subject to policy terms and conditions, and pre-existing conditions may impact eligibility.

Emergency assistance services, which provide guidance and support during medical emergencies, have become even more crucial in the current scenario. Travelers should be aware of the assistance services available to them, including COVID-19-related guidance.

Quarantine Expenses and Trip Delays

The unpredictable nature of the pandemic has led insurers to address quarantine-related expenses and trip delays. Some policies now offer coverage for additional accommodation and meal expenses incurred during mandatory quarantine periods. Trip delay coverage may also extend to delays caused by COVID-19-related issues.

Testing Requirements and Documentation

Given the prevalent testing requirements for international travel, some insurance policies may cover the costs of COVID-19 testing when deemed medically necessary. It's essential for travellers to familiarize themselves with the specific testing-related provisions in their policies and ensure compliance with any documentation requirements.

COVID-19 Coverage with Bajaj Allianz Travel Insurance:

Conclusion:.

As the world adapts to the new normal, international travel insurance has evolved to address the unique challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. While policies vary, travellers can find coverage tailored to pandemic-related concerns. Thoroughly reviewing policy terms, considering optional add-ons, and staying informed about the latest developments in travel insurance are crucial steps for ensuring a protected and informed travel experience.

Extending Travel Insurance Online:

Those who do not want to go through the time-consuming offline process can extend travel insurance online. Going by this method, you will save time and also some money that is spent on travelling to the branch or meeting with the agent.

Visit the Bajaj Allianz website and go to your travel insurance policy page. Click on ‘extend’ and read through the existing benefits along with identifying if you want to add other coverage benefits and update the policy.

If applicable, submit the additional documents. If not, you can straightaway go to the payments page and initiate the same via Credit card, Debit card, or Net Banking.

Once the payment is confirmed, you will receive the soft copy of your insurance policy on your email address.

Extend Travel Insurance Policy Offline:

Offline extension means that you will either have to get in touch with your agent or visit the branch and complete the formalities there.

Contact the agent or visit the branch before the existing insurance policy ends. Take the time you have to review your existing policies and its benefits. If you want to add something to your coverage, ask the agent to do the same.

After reviewing the travel insurance policy, ask for the additional forms or applications pertaining to the add-ons, only if applicable. Submit the required documents (ask the agent or the branch representative for the same).

Carefully review the policy documents, conditions, and guidelines before you pay the premium while buying travel insurance in India.

In offline processing, you have to make the payment via cheque. Make sure that the beneficiary in the cheque is the insurer and not the agent or the representative you are consulting.

Is There Any Eligibility Criteria to Buy a Travel Insurance Policy?

There are eligibility criteria to purchase a travel insurance policy, and they vary among insurance providers. Generally, individuals between certain age brackets, such as 18 to 70 years, are eligible. Travel insurance companies may have specific age limits for coverage.

Moreover, the purpose and duration of travel are crucial factors. Most policies cover trips for leisure, business, or education, and the duration can range from a few days to several months. Some plans cater to specific types of travel, like international or domestic trips.

Pre-existing health conditions are often considered during eligibility assessments for travel insurance. Insurers may require disclosure of existing medical conditions, and coverage may vary based on the insurer's policies. Additionally, citizenship and residence can influence eligibility. Some policies are designed for residents of a particular country or citizens of specific nations.

It's essential to carefully review the eligibility criteria outlined by the insurance provider. By doing so, travellers can ensure they meet the requirements and choose a policy that aligns with their needs and circumstances. Always disclose accurate information during the application process to avoid complications during claims.

Are There Any Exclusions in a Travel Insurance Policy?

What Are The Different Factors That Affect Travel Insurance Premiums?

Travel insurance premiums are influenced by a variety of factors, each playing a crucial role in determining the cost of coverage. Let’s find out the factors impacting travel insurance premiums. From age and health considerations to destination dynamics, this brief overview sheds light on the pivotal elements influencing the cost of travel insurance. Make informed decisions for a tailored and comprehensive coverage experience.

✓ Age and Health Profile:

The age of a traveller is a pivotal factor in determining travel insurance premiums. Older individuals may face higher costs due to increased health risks associated with age. Additionally, one's health profile and pre-existing medical conditions contribute significantly to premium variations.

✓ Number of members covered:

More family members in a policy means a higher premium, like in family floater health insurance plans.

✓ Destination Dynamics:

The chosen destination plays a crucial role in shaping travel insurance premiums. Countries with higher medical costs or elevated travel risks often result in increased premiums. Travellers must consider the unique challenges associated with their destination.

✓ Trip Duration:

The length of the trip directly impacts insurance premiums. Longer durations typically incur higher costs as they extend the coverage period. Travellers should carefully assess their travel plans and select coverage that aligns with their trip duration.

✓ Coverage Type and Extent:

The type and extent of coverage are fundamental considerations. Comprehensive travel insurance plans, encompassing various aspects of travel protection, naturally come with higher premiums. Travellers must evaluate their specific needs and choose coverage that suits their preferences.

✓ Pre-existing Conditions and Medical History:

Individuals with pre-existing medical conditions may face higher premiums due to increased risk. It is crucial to disclose accurate medical histories to ensure appropriate coverage and avoid complications during claims.

✓ Trip Cancellation, Interruption, and Delay Coverage:

The level of travel insurance coverage for trip cancellations, interruptions, or delays affects premiums. Higher coverage limits contribute to increased premiums, providing travellers with enhanced protection against unforeseen circumstances.

✓ Deductible and Coverage Limits:

Balancing deductible amounts and coverage limits is essential. Opting for a higher deductible or lower coverage limits may lower premiums, but travellers should carefully assess their risk tolerance and individual needs.

In conclusion, a comprehensive understanding of these influencing factors empowers travellers to make informed decisions when selecting travel insurance. Navigating the intricacies of premiums ensures that individuals strike the right balance between coverage and cost for their unique travel plans.

How to Shortlist a Travel Insurance Policy?

Choosing the right travel insurance policy is crucial to ensuring a stress-free journey. Here's a guide on how to shortlist the best travel insurance for your needs.

1. Understand Your Needs

Begin by assessing your travel requirements. Different trips may demand different types of coverage. For instance, an adventure-filled vacation might require coverage for extreme sports, while a business trip may prioritize coverage for trip cancellations.

2. Coverage Types

Familiarise yourself with the types of travel insurance coverage offered. Common categories include medical coverage, trip cancellation/interruption, baggage loss, and emergency evacuation. Select coverage that aligns with your specific needs and concerns.

3. Policy Duration

Consider the duration of your trip. Some policies are designed for short-term travel, while others cater to long-term or frequent travellers. Choose a policy that suits the length and frequency of your journeys.

4. Destination-Specific Coverage

Certain regions may pose unique risks or require specific coverage. If you're traveling to remote areas, check if the international travel insurance policy includes emergency evacuation. Some policies may exclude coverage in regions with travel advisories, so ensure your destination is covered.

5. Pre-Existing Conditions

If you have pre-existing medical conditions, ensure that your travel insurance policy covers them. Some policies may have exclusions or offer coverage with additional premiums. Disclose all relevant information to avoid complications during claims.

6. Compare Quotes

Obtain quotes from different insurance providers. Compare not just the cost but also the coverage limits, exclusions, and additional benefits. Look for value rather than opting for the cheapest option.

7. Read Reviews

Customer reviews and testimonials can provide insights into the experiences of others with a particular insurance provider. Consider both positive and negative feedback to make an informed decision regarding the international travel insurance plan.

8. Check Claim Process

Understand the claim process of the insurance provider. A smooth and straightforward claims process is essential. Read the travel insurance policy documents to know what documents are required in case of a claim.

9. Customer Support

Assess the customer support services of the insurance company. Access to 24/7 assistance, especially during emergencies, is crucial. A reliable customer support system adds to the overall convenience of the policy.

10. Policy Exclusions

Carefully review the policy exclusions. Knowing what is not covered is as important as understanding what is covered. Be aware of specific circumstances or activities that may void your coverage.

11. Policy Limits

Check for coverage limits for each category. Ensure that the limits are adequate for potential expenses. For instance, if you're carrying expensive equipment, verify the baggage loss limit.

By following these steps and conducting thorough research, you can shortlist a travel insurance policy that aligns with your travel plans, provides comprehensive coverage, and offers peace of mind throughout your journey.

Are There Ways To Save On Travel Insurance Premiums?

Travel insurance is essential for protecting your trip, but that doesn't mean you have to break the bank. Here are savvy ways to trim travel insurance premiums without compromising coverage.

Compare Quotes

Don't settle for the first quote you receive. Shop around and compare quotes from different providers. Online comparison tools make it easy to identify cost-effective options that suit your needs.

Opt for Basic Coverage

Evaluate your travel needs and choose a travel insurance policy that aligns with them. Opting for basic coverage without unnecessary add-ons can significantly reduce premiums. Tailor your plan to match your specific requirements.

Consider Annual Policies

f you're a frequent traveller, an annual policy might be more cost-effective than purchasing coverage for each trip individually. This approach can lead to substantial savings in the long run. If you're a frequent traveller, an annual policy might be more cost-effective than purchasing coverage for each trip individually. This approach can lead to substantial savings in the long run.

Increase Deductibles

Choosing a higher deductible often results in lower premiums. Assess your risk tolerance and financial capability to determine a deductible that strikes the right balance between savings and coverage.

Exclude Unnecessary Coverage

Review the policy details and exclude coverage for situations unlikely to affect your trip. For instance, if your credit card provides rental car insurance, there's no need for similar coverage in your travel insurance policy.

Securing travel insurance early can result in lower premiums. Booking well in advance allows you to lock in rates and provides peace of mind with extended coverage against unforeseen events.

Group Plans

If travelling with family or a group, inquire about group discounts. Some insurers offer discounted rates for multiple travellers, making it a cost-effective option for families or friends embarking on a journey together.

Maintain Good Health

Your health directly affects premiums. Stay healthy and disclose accurate medical information to avoid unnecessary surcharges. Some insurers offer discounts for policyholders with a clean bill of health.

By implementing these strategies, travellers can enjoy comprehensive coverage while keeping travel insurance premiums within a budget-friendly range. Whether you're a frequent globetrotter or embarking on a one-time adventure, smart choices can lead to significant savings without compromising on protection.

What to Account for When Buying Travel Insurance Online?

Travel has become an integral part of our lives and therefore the importance of securing the right travel insurance cannot be overstated. As technology continues to evolve, the convenience of purchasing travel insurance online has become a preferred choice for modern-day adventurers. However, the process demands careful consideration to ensure that the chosen coverage aligns with individual needs and provides a safety net for unforeseen circumstances. Here's a comprehensive guide on what to account for when buying travel insurance online.

Destination-Specific Coverage

The first crucial factor to consider is the destination. Different regions pose varying risks, and an ideal travel insurance policy should provide coverage tailored to the specific challenges of the chosen location. Be it medical emergencies, trip cancellations, or baggage loss, ensuring that your policy comprehensively addresses the risks associated with your destination is paramount.

Coverage Limits and Exclusions

Thoroughly examine the coverage limits and exclusions outlined in the policy. While it's crucial to understand what the insurance covers, equally important is identifying what it doesn't. Pay close attention to any exclusions related to pre-existing medical conditions, adventure activities, or specific travel scenarios that may be relevant to your journey.

Consider the duration of your trip and how frequently you travel. Some policies cater to short trips, while others provide coverage for longer durations. For frequent travellers, opting for an annual multi-trip policy might prove more cost-effective and convenient than purchasing coverage for each individual journey.

Medical Coverage and Emergency Assistance

Medical emergencies can quickly escalate into significant financial burdens. Ensure that your travel insurance offers robust medical coverage, including hospitalisation expenses, evacuation costs, and emergency assistance services. Confirm that the policy provides coverage for pre-existing conditions or any specific health concerns you may have.

Unforeseen events such as family emergencies or sudden illness may force you to cancel or cut short your trip. A good travel insurance policy should provide adequate coverage for trip cancellations or interruptions, reimbursing non-refundable expenses and offering financial protection against unexpected disruptions.

Lost Baggage and Delayed Flights

Baggage mishaps and flight delays are common travel woes. Ensure that your insurance covers lost or stolen baggage and offers compensation for essential items in case of baggage delays. Similarly, coverage for trip delays or missed connections due to unforeseen circumstances adds an extra layer of security.

Adventure Activities and Sports

For the adventurous souls seeking adrenaline-packed activities during their travels, it's crucial to check if the policy covers adventure sports. Many standard travel insurance policies exclude certain high-risk activities, so individuals engaging in activities like scuba diving, hiking, or skiing should opt for additional coverage if needed.

Compare Quotes and Reviews

Take advantage of the online landscape by comparing quotes from different insurance providers. Consider customer reviews and ratings to gauge the reliability and service quality of each insurer. Feedback from fellow travellers can provide valuable insights into the actual experiences of policyholders.

Policy Customisation

Look for travel insurance policies that offer customisation options. The ability to tailor your coverage based on specific needs allows you to create a personalized insurance plan that aligns with your travel habits, preferences, and budget.

24/7 Customer Support

Emergencies don't adhere to regular business hours. Ensure that the insurance provider offers 24/7 customer support and has a dedicated helpline for assistance during unforeseen situations. Accessible customer support is invaluable when you need guidance or help in a foreign land.

Transparency and Fine Print

Carefully read the terms and conditions of the travel insurance policy. Transparent communication about coverage details, terms, and conditions contributes to a better understanding of the insurance. Pay attention to the fine print to avoid surprises when making a claim.

Financial Stability of the Insurer

Evaluate the financial stability and reputation of the insurance company. Opt for insurers with a proven track record of timely claim settlements and financial stability. A reliable insurer ensures that you can rely on your coverage when it matters the most.

Claim Process and Documentation

Understand the claims process and the required documentation in case of an unfortunate event. A straightforward and efficient claims process, coupled with clear instructions on necessary documents, makes the post-incident experience less stressful.

Legal and Regulatory Compliance

Ensure that the insurance provider complies with legal and regulatory requirements. Check if the policy adheres to international travel insurance standards and if the insurer is authorized to operate in the countries you plan to visit.

Cost vs. Value

While cost is a significant factor, it should not be the sole determinant. Evaluate the value offered by the policy in relation to its cost. Sometimes, a slightly higher premium may provide more comprehensive coverage, proving to be a worthwhile investment in the long run.

In conclusion, buying travel insurance online demands meticulous consideration of various factors to ensure a tailored and reliable safety net for your journeys. From destination-specific coverage to evaluating customer reviews and understanding the fine print, a well-informed decision guarantees peace of mind and financial protection while you explore the wonders of the world.

Let's debunk some common misconceptions and shed light on the importance of travel insurance.

Myth 1:Travel Insurance is Expensive and Unnecessary

Contrary to popular belief, travel insurance is often affordable, especially when compared to potential financial losses due to trip cancellations, medical emergencies, or lost belongings. Myth 2: I Don't Need Travel Insurance for Short Trips

Whether your trip is short or extended, unexpected events can occur at any time. Travel insurance is not solely about trip duration; it's about being prepared for unforeseen circumstances. Even a brief trip can be disrupted by flight cancellations, lost baggage, or sudden illnesses. Having travel insurance coverage ensures you're protected no matter the duration of your journey.

Myth 3: My Health Insurance Covers Me Abroad

While some health insurance plans provide limited coverage abroad, many may not cover international medical emergencies or evacuation costs. Travel insurance with comprehensive medical coverage ensures you receive proper care and assistance, especially in countries where healthcare costs are high.

Myth 4: Travel Insurance Only Covers Medical Emergencies

It typically includes trip cancellation or interruption coverage, lost or delayed baggage reimbursement, emergency evacuation, and even coverage for travel delays. Understanding the comprehensive nature of travel insurance helps travellers make informed decisions.

Myth 5: I Can Buy Travel Insurance Any Time Before My Trip

It's a common misconception that travel insurance can be purchased at any time before departure. However, some benefits, like trip cancellation coverage, may have time-sensitive requirements. Buying insurance early ensures you can take advantage of these benefits and have coverage in place for unforeseen events leading up to your trip.

Myth 6: Travel Insurance Covers Everything

While travel insurance is comprehensive, it doesn't cover every possible scenario. Exclusions vary between policies, so it's essential to read the terms and conditions carefully. Common exclusions may include pre-existing medical conditions, extreme sports activities, or travel to high-risk destinations. Understanding these exclusions helps manage expectations and plan accordingly.

Myth 7: I Can Rely on the Airline for Compensation

Many travellers believe that airlines will compensate them adequately for flight delays, cancellations, or lost baggage. However, airlines have limitations, and compensation may not cover all incurred expenses. Travel insurance provides an additional layer of protection, ensuring you're adequately reimbursed for unexpected inconveniences.

In conclusion, dispelling these myths highlights the importance and value of travel insurance in safeguarding your travel investment. It's an indispensable tool for managing risks and ensuring a smoother, more secure travel experience. Senior citizens over the age of 70 can travel and enjoy the world just as much as their children and grandchildren. Our senior citizen travel insurance policy has been created keeping their needs in mind. This travel insurance plan offers additional cover for medical emergencies, including dental coverage, emergency medical evacuation and the repatriation of remains.

What’s Not Covered By TATA AIG's Travel Insurance Plan?

Even while we would prefer to cover all conceivable risks, many circumstances are simply not practical. We prefer total openness with our consumers. So here is what our travel insurance plans don't cover:

Baggage Exclusions

  • Loss of baggage will not be covered in cases where you have shipped the items separately or before your travel date.
  • It will also not be covered in cases where your travel insurance policy does not cover the geographic region. For example, under a student travel insurance policy, if the bags are lost in India, it will be not be covered.
  • If you do not report that your luggage, documents or personal belongings have been stolen to the relevant authorities, you cannot make a legitimate claim for them against your travel insurance policy.

Journey Exclusions

Under certain circumstances, we will not be able to settle claims against your travel insurance policy. These circumstances include:

  • Involvement in illegal activities, including felony, theft, deceit or other malicious acts.
  • Participation in adventure sports, like skydiving, scuba diving, or mountain diving will not be covered under our travel insurance plans.
  • Undertaking manual labour or work that could potentially harm you or be dangerous for your health.

Medical Exclusions

Your claim request against your travel insurance plan will not be entertained if

  • You have travelled against the advice of your doctor
  • You suffer from a complication or require assistance due to a pre-existing health condition
  • You have injuries that are self-inflicted
  • Your claim is for pregnancy or a related issue, including birth control or surgical procedures
  • The issue is related to a sexually transmitted disease, mental disorder, and injuries due to the consumption of alcohol or drugs that were not medically prescribed.

Did Not Find What You Were Looking For?

When, where and how to choose travel insurance, purchasing a travel insurance policy requires a lot of thought and consideration. to help you with your decision, here’s a look at some important factors you must consider before choosing a travel insurance policy:, destination.

Your travel insurance policy will depend largely on your destination. For starters, you must decide whether you’re travelling internationally or domestically. Based on this, you can narrow down your options. If you’re travelling internationally, it’s important that you check the travel insurance requirement of various countries. For example, certain countries will not issue you a travel visa unless you can show that you have sufficient cover in your travel insurance policy.

Travel Frequency

The kind of travel insurance policy you buy will depend on how often you intend to travel. If you travel very frequently, a multi-trip travel insurance plan might be ideal for you. These plans allow you to enjoy multiple trips without you having to apply for a new travel insurance policy each time. On the other hand, if you only travel once in a while, then a single trip travel insurance policy might be better for you. You can easily apply for your travel insurance policy online and have it issued without the need for a pre-policy check-up.

Duration Of The Trip

While picking a travel insurance plan, you must keep the length of your trip in mind. It’s a good idea to pick a travel insurance policy of a duration that slightly exceeds your actual trip dates. Ideally, you should be able to find a plan that offers cover for more days without it affecting your premium. This way, if you have to extend your trip for a few days, you don’t risk losing your cover.

People Travelling

If you’re travelling alone, you can purchase a travel insurance policy just for yourself without any worries. If you’re travelling with your family, you should add each member to your insurance policy. Make sure you tell us how many of you are travelling before you purchase the policy and we’ll do the needful. This makes it much easier for you to keep track of everybody’s paperwork.

Claim Limit

This is possibly one of the most important factors that will influence your decision. Every travel insurance policy has a limit as to how much they will pay for various claims . For example, you will receive a specified sum in case your bags are lost or stolen. Even in medical emergencies, you must keep your sum insured amount and claim limit in mind. If you have a low claim limit, it may not be enough to take care of all kinds of medical emergencies while you’re travelling. Depending on where you’re going and how long you’re travelling for, you should pick a suitable sum insured for your travel insurance policy. A higher sum insured will lead to a higher premium, but it will come in handy if you require to file a claim while you’re travelling.

When it is feasible for persons heading to a region to be aware of an occurrence, it becomes predictable. For example, if the airline you're travelling with declares a strike, the event becomes predictable after they make the announcement.
  • Physician It is defined as a person who is licenced as a medical doctor by the jurisdiction in which he or she resides and who practises the healing arts. They must be practising within the extent of their licensure for the service or treatment provided and cannot be you, a travelling companion, or a family member.
  • Trip Cost It refers to the costs of your travel arrangements that you paid before leaving on your trip and would be lost if your trip was cancelled. This covers flights, cruises, lodgings, excursions, entertainment, and other fees that you may incur if you are unable to travel.
  • Maximum Policy Coverage The maximum amount of compensation that will be paid for expenditures covered by a policy.
  • Insured Journey This refers to any trip that the insured individual takes within the policy term. It commences once the individual boards the aircraft for an onward journey and expires on their arrival back to their city or town of residence or when the policy is set to expire – whichever is earlier.
  • Single Trip Insurance These plans have a one-time premium charge and are only good for one trip. This is best suited for infrequent travellers and often provides no more than 6 months of coverage.
  • Multi-Trip Travel Insurance For frequent flyers, multi-trip travel insurance policies are the best options. These plans have a yearly validity period and need a premium payment each year. Travellers are protected for any number of trips they take during this time period.
  • Subrogation It occurs when an insurance company reimburses its insured for injuries or losses caused by a third party. If a third party caused harm, the insurer can still sue the third party to collect the lost money.

Does HDFC ERGO’s International Travel Insurance Cover COVID-19?

While the world is returning to normal and international travel is blooming again, the fear of COVID-19 still looms large over us. Quite recently the emergence of a new variant - Arcturus covid variant – caused much concern among the public and healthcare experts alike. While most countries have relaxed their travel protocols related to COVID-19, precaution and alertness can help us keep another wave at bay. The challenging bit is that any emergence of a new variant is reported to be more transmissible than previous strains. This uncertainty also means that we cannot put anything to chance yet and must follow the basic precautions to prohibit transmission. Masks, sanitisers and compulsive cleaning should still be our mainstay. Whenever a new variant makes its presence felt, Covid cases in India and abroad increase rapidly highlighting the importance of vaccinations and booster doses. If you aren’t vaccinated yet, it’s high time you get the jab. Remember to take your booster doses on time too. International visits can be interrupted if you have not taken the requisite doses, as it is one of the mandates for overseas travel. Watch out for symptoms such as - cough, fever, fatigue, loss of smell or taste, and difficulty breathing, which could be a matter of concern and get checked at the earliest, especially if you are planning international travel or are at a foreign destination. Medical expenses in a foreign land can be expensive, so having the backing of international travel insurance can be of much help. HDFC ERGO’s international travel insurance policy ensures that you are protected if you catch COVID-19.

Here’s what is covered under the travel medical insurance for COVID-19 -

• Hospitalisation expenses

• Cashless treatment at network hospitals

• Daily cash allowance during hospitalisation

• Medical evacuation

• Extended hotel stay for treatment

• Medical and body repatriation

Factors that Affect Your International Travel Insurance Premium

The country you’re travelling to.

If you’re travelling to a safer or economically more stable country, the insurance premium will likely be lower. Also, the farther the destination is from your home, the higher will be the insurance premium.

The duration of your trip

The longer you are away, the higher the probability of you falling ill or getting injured. Therefore, the longer your travel duration, the higher will be the premium charged.

The age of the traveller(s)

The insured's age plays a vital role in determining the premium. Travel insurance premiums for senior citizens could be slightly higher as their risk of illness and injury increases with age.

The extent of coverage you choose

The type of travel insurance coverage the insured person chooses decides the premium of their policy. A more comprehensive travel insurance plan will naturally cost higher than more primary coverage.

I have seen few of the insurance policies before deciding to choose HDFC insurance as my life partner. One of the interesting part is monthly-autodeduction from my card as well as it sends the reminder before the due date. The app developed is also so friendly to use and gives me a better experience compared to other insurance company.

Pros: - excellent pricing: quotes from other insurers during past three-four years have been always 50-100% higher including all possible discounts and membership benefits - excellent service: choice of billing, payment, documentation options - excellent customer service: newsletters, prompt and professional replies from the representatives Cons: - none till now

Travel plans to suit your every need

Travelling is exciting. Exploring new landscapes, learning about different cultures, and creating lasting memories make for an enriching experience. It is a great way to step out of your daily routine and experience something new with your loved ones.

But unexpected events such as trip cancellation, medical emergencies, lost or stolen luggage, etc. can leave you in a stressful situation. More importantly, it can lead to higher expenses than what you had planned.

Therefore, before you start planning your next vacation, you must be prepared for such situations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

This is where travel insurance comes into the picture. It ensures that you are safe in case something goes wrong and makes it easier to manage unexpected expenses. If you want a stress-free travel experience and to make the most of your trip with your loved ones, you must buy travel insurance.

What is Travel Insurance?

When travelling to a new city, certain unexpected events can cause you stress and lead to financial losses. For example, medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost luggage, etc. These situations can be inconvenient and leave you with a bad experience.

Travel insurance protects you in these events. It is an insurance plan that guards you against financial losses that can occur due to unexpected events on your trip.

It typically includes a variety of coverage options, such as trip cancellation and interruption coverage, medical coverage, luggage coverage, and more. It's an affordable way to protect yourself and your investment in your trip and enjoy your vacation with your loved ones.

Why Do I Need Travel Insurance

There are many reasons why you must buy travel insurance. Some of these include:

Unexpected events such as a severe illness or the death of a loved one can force you to cancel or cut short your trip, leaving you with non-refundable expenses. Travel insurance can reimburse you for these costs.

Medical treatments can be very expensive, especially if you become ill or injured while travelling abroad. Travel insurance can provide financial assistance for medical expenses, including emergency medical evacuation if necessary.

Losing your luggage can be a major inconvenience, and the cost of replacing your belongings can add up quickly. Travel insurance can reimburse you for the cost of lost or stolen luggage.

Accidents or death can happen at any time, and travel insurance can provide coverage for accidental death or dismemberment, which can provide financial assistance to your family in case of your death or injury.

Delays due to bad weather or other reasons can disrupt your travel plans and cause additional expenses. Travel insurance can reimburse you for these costs.

Features of Travel Insurance in India

Travel insurance in India comes with a ton of features. These include-

Coverage for unexpected events

When you are planning a vacation with your family, the last thing you want is to have something unexpected disrupt your plans. This not only wastes your time but also causes stress and leads to hefty expenses. Travel insurance covers a wide range of unexpected events, including trip cancellations, medical emergencies, lost or stolen luggage, and more to ensure you can enjoy your trip in peace.

24/7 emergency assistance

Emergencies are, of course, unexpected. They can throw you off and leave you hanging for help. Travel insurance policies include 24/7 emergency assistance, which can provide help and support in case of an emergency while you're travelling.

Global coverage

There is nothing worse than ending up in an uncomfortable situation in a foreign land. You might not know the local language or whom to contact for help. Many travel insurance policies in India provide coverage for international travel, so you can have peace of mind knowing that you're protected no matter where you go.

Affordable pricing

If you think travel insurance is expensive, think again. Travel insurance in India is generally affordable, making it accessible to a wide range of travellers. Moreover, it makes it very convenient to manage hefty medical bills or non-refundable losses.

Easy claims process

Travel insurance policies have a simple claims process. This makes it easy and convenient to get the financial assistance you need in case of an unexpected event.

Customizable coverage

Some travel insurance policies in India allow you to customize your coverage based on your specific needs, budget and the duration of travel. This is an excellent option if you need more control over your plan and do not want to pay for certain coverage.

Coverage for adventure and sports activities

Some policies also offer coverage for adventure and sports activities, such as hiking, scuba diving, and more. So if your trip includes some fun activities, travel insurance ensures you have a safe experience.

Online purchase and renewal

Lastly, you do not need to visit a physical branch to buy travel insurance. Most travel insurance providers in India offer online facilities to purchase and renew travel insurance, making it easier and more convenient for travellers.

Why Choose Future Generali Travel Insurance

Buying travel insurance before a trip is important. Buying it from a reliable provider is even more important. Here's why Future Generali is your ideal option when it comes to travel insurance-

Have you been eyeing that international trip for a while? With Future Generali's travel insurance, you can plan your trip without any stress. We provide complete overseas protection with 24/7 toll-free assistance no matter where you are in the world.

Types of Travel Insurance in India

Travel insurance providers in India offer different types of plans. These include-

Domestic Travel Insurance

Domestic travel insurance provides financial protection and peace of mind for travellers within the country, ensuring that they can enjoy their trip without worrying about unexpected events. They protect you against a wide range of unexpected events, such as trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and lost or stolen luggage. Moreover, domestic insurance is more affordable than international travel insurance and does not require a visa.

International Travel Insurance

This plan is ideal if you're going on an international vacation or business trip. It provides similar coverage to domestic travel insurance and gives peace of mind to individuals travelling outside of India. Some countries also require travel insurance as a mandatory document for visa application.

Single and Multi-trip Travel Insurance

Single trip insurance is valid for just one tip and covers all medical and non-medical expenses. Whereas, a multi-trip plan provides coverage for an extended period and is valid for all the trips you take during this period. If you are a frequent flyer, then a multi-trip plan is the best for you.

Senior Citizen Travel Insurance

As the name suggests, this plan is exclusively for senior citizens (over 60 years of age). But besides the usual coverage, the senior citizen travel insurance also offers additional benefits like cashless hospitalization, dental treatments/procedures, etc.

Medical Travel Insurance

Medical emergencies can come unannounced. But they can be even more inconvenient when you are in a new city. Medical travel insurance exclusively covers medical expenses that may occur during your trip. Some policies also provide coverage for COVID-19 medical expenses, quarantine costs, and trip cancellation or interruption due to COVID-19. This ensures that you can get the medical treatment you need wherever you are without worrying about the cost.

Group Travel Insurance

When you are travelling in a group for a vacation or a business conclave, buying individual travel insurance for all members can significantly increase the premium. This is where group travel insurance comes in. It lowers the insurance premium without compromising the safety of members.

What is Covered in Future Generali's Travel Insurance Policy?

Overseas Travel Insurance Coverage for Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The travel and tourism industry was the most affected by the pandemic. But with things getting back to normal, travels are resuming.

While the pandemic may be behind us, we must not forget that it is not completely over. This is why it is wise to buy travel insurance coverage for Coronavirus before you embark on your next trip. Moreover, many countries have made COVID insurance mandatory for VISA approval.

But why is travel insurance coverage for coronavirus so important?

For starters, it offers financial protection if you need to cancel or interrupt your trip due to COVID-19. With standard travel insurance policies not covering pandemics, it can be difficult to recoup the costs of your trip if you have to cancel or interrupt it.

Travel insurance coverage for coronavirus also provides coverage for emergency medical expenses if you catch the virus while travelling. This is especially important if you're travelling to a destination where medical care may not be readily available or may be more expensive than in India.

Moreover, it covers expenses such as quarantine costs, testing fees, and transportation costs if you need to return home early due to a COVID-19 diagnosis. It also provides coverage for trip interruption, which includes additional travel and accommodation expenses if you are unable to complete your trip due to COVID-19.

Travel insurance coverage for coronavirus is crucial because it offers peace of mind and financial protection if your trip is impacted by the pandemic. With the uncertainty and evolving situation of COVID-19, having travel insurance coverage for coronavirus can provide you with a sense of security.

How To Avoid High Premiums

Factors That Affect Travel Insurance Premium

There are several factors that can affect the premium of a travel insurance policy. These include-

The destination of travel : Travel insurance premiums can vary depending on the destination of travel. More risky or remote destinations usually come with higher premiums.

The length of the trip : Longer trips typically have higher premiums than shorter trips.

The age of the policyholder : Older policyholders may have to pay higher premiums due to an increased risk of medical issues.

The coverage amount : The higher the coverage amount, the higher your premium will be.

The type of policy : Different types of travel insurance polices, such as single-trip, multi-trip, or long-term policies, will have different premiums.

The type of coverage : Some policies may offer additional coverage for events like trip cancellation, baggage loss, or personal accident which may increase the premium.

Pre-existing medical conditions : If you have pre-existing medical conditions, this may affect your premium, and you may be required to pay more.

Tips to Lower Your Travel Insurance Premium

You can take a few steps to ensure you get the maximum coverage at the most affordable premiums.

Compare quotes from multiple providers : Before finalizing the insurance provider, make sure you do your research and compare the quotes from different providers. This will help you find the best deal on travel insurance.

Choose a policy with the coverage you need : Many providers allow you to customize your plan and only pay for the coverage that you need. This eliminates any unnecessary coverage that increases the premium.

Look for discounts : Some providers offer discounts for things like paying for your policy in full or purchasing it well in advance of your trip. Make sure to ask for such offers before finalizing the provider.

Avoid high-risk activities : Some activities, such as adventure sports, can increase your premium. If you plan to participate in such activities, make sure they are covered by your policy. To lower your premium, try to avoid any high-risk adventure activities.

Consider a longer trip : Some policies offer better rates for longer trips, so consider extending your trip if you can.

Pay attention to the excess or deductible : A higher excess or deductible may lower your premium.

Types of Travel Insurance Plans in India

There are various types of travel insurance plans offered by insurers in India:

  • Basic Travel Policy: These plans cover basic travel risks that most insurers provide. The premium amount is comparatively low due to the limited coverage.
  • Comprehensive Travel Policy: Comprehensive plans offer a host of optional covers, like medical expenses or repatriation of mortal remains, many insurers may not provide. etc. Notably, Niva Bupa Travel Insurance offers over 40 travel-related covers, including the ones mentioned above.
  • Single Trip: One-time travelers can buy this policy before or after booking their tickets. This policy remains applicable for the duration of that trip.
  • Multi-trip: If the policy buyer has several trips planned for the year, they can opt for a multi-trip policy that offers coverage for a specific period instead of the trip duration. Frequent fliers opt for this plan to avoid buying plans repeatedly.
  • Student: Students can buy a travel plan that offers coverage for the study duration. Covers like sponsor protection and study interruption can be opted for to make the plan more student-friendly.
  • Policy buyers can opt for a single, family, group, or any other plan as per their requirements.

When faced with unexpected travel expenses due to emergencies, travellers need to get a simple and hassle-free claim experience. By following the given steps, travellers can request a claim with Niva Bupa:

  • To file a travel insurance claim, you first need to contact your insurer, Niva Bupa.

Besides this, one can make two types of claims in the case of a medical emergency.

Niva Bupa is partnered with Europ Assistance, a global third-party administrator, to provide cashless claims to hospitals and healthcare centres worldwide.

  • The customer intimates the claim to Europ Assistance via a toll-free number or email.

Eligibility Criteria for Travel Insurance

The various eligibility criteria for Niva Bupa Health Insurance's TravelAssure plan include:

  • Adults should be between the age of 18 and 70
  • Dependent children can be up to the age of 25
  • Travelers must possess and furnish mandatory documents like copies of passport, visa, income proof, and other relevant papers

Considerations Before Buying Travel Insurance Policy

Some of the factors that you need to consider before buying a travel insurance policy are:

  • Duration: If you are planning to travel again, it is advisable to opt for a long duration multi-trip travel insurance plan. If your single trip is for a longer duration, the premium will be higher, so plan your trip accordingly.
  • Nature of the Trip: Choose the plan as per the nature of your trip. Someone planning to do sky diving would have different optional covers compared to someone travelling to attend business meetings.
  • Sum Assured: Estimate your travel risk and finalize your sum assured accordingly. The higher the sum assured, the higher will be the premium.
  • Optional Covers: Go through the list of covers available and select judiciously. Selecting unnecessary covers will only escalate the premium.
  • Exclusions: There may be specified circumstances or conditions where the travel insurance is not applicable. Always familiarize yourself with the exclusions before buying the travel plan.

COVID-19 Coverage

Due to the global scale of the COVID-19 pandemic, most leading insurance companies offer COVID-19 specific coverages in their travel plans. Niva Bupa TravelAssure provides COVID-19 hospitalisation coverage up to the sum assured. Accordingly, if you are infected or test positive for COVID-19 during your overseas stay, the travel insurance plan will bear the cost of your treatment and hospitalisation. In almost all countries, a COVID-19 infection leads to the applicability of strict isolation rules and gets addressed as per their SOP when detected. Therefore, adequate COVID-19 coverage can be handy in times of need.
