Booking & Cancellation FAQs

When do jet2holidays have to be paid.

When making a booking, a deposit must be paid for each person travelling. The remaining balance must then be paid at least 10 weeks before the departure date and will be taken from the payment card that was used to pay the deposit. Alternatively, you can pay monthly or pay for the whole thing up front.

Can I cancel my Jet2holiday booking?

If a lead traveller wishes to cancel their holiday they are entitled to do so, but will likely incur charges. How much of a refund you will receive entirely depends on the period of time left before your departure. We always recommend reading their holiday cancellation policy before confirming your booking.

What are the charges for amending my booking?

If you’re looking to amend your booking, you can do so by accessing the ‘Manage My Booking’ section on the Jet2holidays website. There are a range of alterations possible, including name changes, date of birth changes, duration of your holiday and the accommodation and destination. Understanding travel credit options.

We offer different types of travel credit: Trip Credit, Flight Credit, and Travel Vouchers. Each type of travel credit has its own terms and conditions, so be sure to read them carefully before redeeming your credit. Keep in mind, travel credits can only be used to book flights, and can’t be used to pay for extras like seats or bags.

Extended Trip Credit

For Trip Credit issued on or after April 2, 2024, AAdvantage ® members have 12 months to use their Trip Credit when canceling their trip on aa.com or the American app and their AAdvantage ® number is included in their reservation. Non-AAdvantage ® members have 6 months.

Types of travel credit

*Can’t be used for extras like seats or bags.

Log in to your account

Step 1: Find your Trip Credit email

• Look for an email from American Airlines with the subject line ‘Your Trip Credit.’
• Your Trip Credit number is a 13-digit number that begins with ‘00115.’

Keep in mind there are separate ticket numbers for add-ons like seats, upgrades, and bags.

Step 2: Book and add your Trip Credit

• Go to aa.com and book your new flight.
• On the payment screen, select ‘Trip Credit.’
• Follow the prompts to pay using your Trip Credit.
• You may use a credit card to pay any remaining balance.

Flight Credit

If you're an AAdvantage ® member and had your account number listed in your reservation before cancellation, you can log in to your account and view available Flight Credit in your AAdvantage ® account.

Step 1: Find your canceled trip or confirmation email

• You'll need your 6-character confirmation code and 13-digit ticket number.
• American tickets have a 13-digit number that begins with '001'.

Step 2: View your canceled trip

• Go to aa.com and choose ‘Manage trips / Check-in’
• Choose ‘View canceled trips’ and enter your trip details.
• You’ll find your Flight Credit details on the ‘Your trip’ page.

Step 3: Rebook and add Flight Credit

• Go to aa.com and find your new flight.
• On the payment screen, choose ‘Add Flight Credit.’
• Enter the ticket number from your canceled trip and apply the credit.

Expiration and validity

• Valid until 11:59 p.m. (CT) on the date listed on the Trip Credit, and we won't reissue it past the expiration date.
• We won't accept invalid or expired Trip Credit.
• We won’t accept Trip Credit with an invalid number or if we are unable to locate it within the American Airlines systems.
• To receive Trip Credit, your original ticket must be canceled before the departure of the first flight (or the ticket loses any remaining value and cannot be used for future travel).

Redemption and usage

• You may redeem Trip Credit on aa.com or by contacting Reservations. Trip Credit is not redeemable through any other channels, including airport ticket counters or travel agencies.
• When contacting Reservations, tell the agent you have Trip Credit and you want to use it to book your travel.
• Trip Credit is redeemable toward air travel on flights operated by American, American Eagle ® or flights marketed by American (designated with an AA*). You can’t use Trip Credit for payment of air travel on any other airline on aa.com.
• Contact Reservations to use Trip Credit for qualifying one world ® or other airline partner itineraries.
• Trip Credit is redeemable toward the base air fare and directly associated taxes, fees and charges collected as part of the fare calculation.
• You may not use Trip Credit for products and / or services sold separate from the fare price or for taxes, fees or charges in connection with AAdvantage ® award travel, American Airlines Vacations℠ or any other non-flight products and / or services sold by American.
• You may only use non-taxable Trip Credit for single-passenger reservations on aa.com.
• Contact Reservations to use Trip Credit for more than 9 passengers.
• The recipient of Trip Credit can use it to pay for travel for themselves or others.

• You may not combine Trip Credit with the value of an existing ticket to pay for a new ticket.

How one Philadelphia woman turned travel vouchers from American Airlines into an Italian staycation

PHILADELPHIA -- One Philadelphia woman made the most of a lucrative airline hack when she collected thousands of dollars in travel vouchers, all while living a life of luxury in Italy, by agreeing to get bumped from her flights home.

And she chronicled the entire experience on TikTok.

Susan Berry's flight home from Italy was oversold and she says the American Airlines gate agents were offering $1,200 travel vouchers to fly out the next day.

Except the next day's flight was also oversold - and the day after that too.

"When I found out that there was potentially a two week opportunity to do this, that's when I started being, like, cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching!" she told Good Morning America.

And she wasn't just stacking travel vouchers. She says American also set her up with a free hotel and her meals were paid for. They even arranged a car service from the airport.

So, again and again, Susan returned to the airport, fully intending not to get on her flight.

"I'm at $3,600 and counting. I'm trying to get up to $10,000 and then travel the world," she says in a TikTok video.

And while you don't have to be as ambitious or outgoing as Susan, experts say flights are oversold a lot and if you have the flexibility, you can make thousands of dollars, plus extras - especially if you negotiate.

"Airlines have a secret menu as well. This can be things like lounge passes or even a business class seat on your replacement flight," said Scott Keyes, founder and chief flight expert at Going.com.

Susan did eventually make it back home to Philadelphia, as her fourth flight finally had enough room for her on board.

"I was just getting started, so I was mentally prepared to stay for two weeks," she said.

Buying products and services with your card, in most cases, will count as a purchase; however, the following types of transactions won’t count and won’t earn points: cash withdrawals, balance transfers, cash advances, travellers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.
• Only one Chase Travel Together Ticket can be earned in any Twelve-Month Period. If the Member reaches their Spend Target within the Twelve-Month Period, then further spend will not accumulate towards another Chase Travel Together Ticket. Members can begin earning towards their next Chase Travel Together Ticket at the beginning of the next Twelve-Month Period.
• When the Member has reached the Spend Target a Chase Travel Together Ticket will automatically be added to their British Airways Executive Club account. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. Using the Chase Travel Together Ticket with a companion

• The Chase Travel Together Ticket allows the main British Airways/Chase account holder, when making a flight booking using Avios on a British Airways, Iberia or Aer Lingus flight, including certain of their respective subsidiaries and franchise partners, as detailed in Clause 3 (‘Selected Airlines’), to book another seat on the exact same journey for a companion without having to pay the Avios flight price for that companion. Taxes, airline, government, or other separately charged fees and charges (“Taxes Fees and Charges”) must be paid by Member redeeming the Chase Travel Together Ticket and is payable at time of booking.
• The Chase Travel Together Ticket will be issued in the name of the main British Airways/Chase Credit card account holder, who must travel on any Chase Travel Together Ticket.
• The Chase Travel Together Ticket may only be used for bookings, which are strictly subject to availability and British Airways offers no guarantee that Members will be able to book for a companion on any specific flight with Selected Airlines.
• When booking a Reward flight with a Chase Travel Together Ticket, you can choose to make a full Avios redemption or from other Avios and Money price options (subject to the Cardmember’s payment of the Taxes, Fees, and Charges for each seat).
• A Member who has two valid Chase Travel Together Tickets on their account has the option to redeem both simultaneously on one flight booking, the Avios flight price must be paid for the Member and an additional individual in order that 2 companions can travel on that booking. If booking for the Member and an additional 2 companions (grand total of 3 passengers) then the booking will need to be processed through the contact centre.

Using the Travel Together Ticket as a solo traveller

• The Chase Travel Together Ticket allows the main British Airways/Chase account holder, when making a flight booking using Avios as a solo traveller on a British Airways, Iberia, or Aer Lingus flight, including certain of their respective subsidiaries and franchise partners, as detailed in Clause 3 (‘Selected Airlines’), to pay 50% of the Avios fare of the journey. Taxes, Fees, and Charges must be paid by Member redeeming the Chase Travel Together Ticket and is payable at time of booking.
• 50% solo traveller Reward flight discount can be accessed by solo travellers or one single adult travelling with an infant under two years of age. When booking with an infant, usual Avios redemption rules will apply.
• When booking a reward flight with a Chase Travel Together Ticket, you can choose to make a full Avios redemption or from other Avios and Money price options (subject to the Cardmember’s payment of the Taxes, Fees, and Charges for each seat).
• The Chase Travel Together Ticket will be issued in the name of the main British Airways/Chase Credit card account holder, who must travel on the Chase Travel Together Ticket.

Rules and Restrictions

• The Chase Travel Together Ticket can only be used for travel on reward flights listed in the Executive Club Redemption table operated by British Airways, Iberia, or Aer Lingus, including certain of their respective subsidiaries and franchise, as detailed in Clause 3 (‘Selected Airlines’), in any cabin class, as long as the Member has sufficient Avios to complete the booking for their desired journey.
• The Chase Travel Together Ticket can be used for travel on any route, in any cabin class, for return or one-way journeys, as long as the Cardmember has sufficient Avios to complete the booking for their desired journey.
• Avios and Reward Flight bookings made with the Chase Travel Together Ticket can only be used on ‘Selected Airlines’ including, British Airways and its subsidiary CityFlyer and EuroFlyer; Iberia and its subsidiary Iberia Express and its franchise partner, Air Nostrum; Aer Lingus and its subsidiary Aer Lingus U.K. and its franchise partner, Emerald Airlines. This excludes any flights operated by British Airways’ franchise partner Sunair.
• Reward Flight bookings made with a Chase Travel Together Ticket can only be redeemed online through the British Airways Executive Club Avios Reward Flight booking page and British Airways Executive Club app or through British Airways contact centres, and Chase Companion Vouchers must be applied at the time of booking through your British Airways Executive Club account.
• The Member and their companions must travel together at all times and therefore must be booked onto the same flight and cabin class when travelling using a Chase Companion Voucher.
• Bookings for companions must be made at the same time as the Member makes their booking.
• If the Cardmember has a British Airways Executive Club Household Account, companions do not have to be people who are named within this Household Account, however they will need to be within the cardmember’s British Airways Executive Club Friends and Family list (a list which allows Household Account members to redeem for individuals who they do not live with). • Outbound travel must take place before the expiry date stated on the Chase Travel Together Ticket, however inbound travel on a return booking, may take place after the expiry date.

• Once travel using the Chase Travel Together Ticket(s) has been booked, name changes are not allowed.
• If travel using the Chase Travel Together Ticket is cancelled within 24 hours of departure, the Chase Companion Voucher will not be re-issued to the Member’s Executive Club account.
• If travel using Chase Travel Together Ticket is cancelled more than 24 hours before departure, then the Chase Companion Voucher will be re-issued to the Member’s Executive Club account for the remainder of its original validity period.
• British Airways reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any given time. Any amendments made to these Terms and Conditions will not affect the validity of any Chase Travel Together Ticket(s) which have already been issued.

I’ve just realised that my Travel Together Ticket has expired. Can I get it extended?

Can I redeem a Travel Together Ticket when I pay with Avios & Money?

No, the Travel Together Ticket is only valid when you pay fully with Avios. However, you can purchase up to 35,000 Avios per annum, per account, if you don’t have enough Avios for your chosen reward flight.

An American Airlines passenger on an oversold flight stayed in Italy for an extra 3 nights to collect $3,550 in travel vouchers

• Susan Berry's American Airlines flight from Italy to Philadelphia was overbooked.
• She offered to be bumped and was given a $1,200 flight voucher, free food, and a hotel stay.
• The route continued to be overbooked, so she stayed as long as possible, collecting $3,550 in vouchers.

When American Airlines gate agents announced they needed volunteers to step off an overbooked flight , Susan Berry didn't hesitate to raise her hand.

Berry, who had spent two months in Italy, didn't want her trip to end. By volunteering, she'd continue exploring Naples and receive a $1,200 flight voucher for future travels.

"Before the manager could even finish his sentence, I'm like, 'Me! Me! Me! Can I do it please?'" Berry, who was scheduled to fly from Naples, Italy, to Philadelphia on August 4, told Business Insider.

After accepting the offer, the 36-year-old said she hopped in a car provided by the airline that drove her and seven other bumped passengers to a four-star hotel, where they spent the night for free.

Berry arrived at the airport the following day, where she learned that her next scheduled flight was also full. She said she volunteered again, and then an airline worker mentioned that the flight was fully booked until mid-August.

After some quick math, Berry realized she could spend the next 10 days gaining flight vouchers, staying in free hotels, and dining on free Italian cuisine.

It was an opportunity the freelance fashion photographer said she couldn't pass up. By the end, she hoped to have more than $10,000 in vouchers for a trip around the world.

Berry's $10,000 goal was cut short, but she did extend her trip three extra days and has $3,550 in flight vouchers.

For most travelers, a full flight might be a nightmare , but Berry said she saw it as an opportunity, especially after the first day in Naples was a success.

Berry initially assumed it was a one-time event until she arrived at the airport the next day when volunteers were once again needed.

As a freelancer, she could do her work from anywhere in the world — including a free hotel in Naples. Plus, another $1,200 in flight vouchers would allow her to photograph in new destinations.

"I could do a really great trip or travel for the whole year," Berry said. "This could be fantastic for my career."

Berry said she decided to continue volunteering and wouldn't return to Philadelphia until the airline had an open seat. She started referring to the experience as "Camp American Airlines," and on August 6, she posted about it on TikTok. An audience quickly formed, rooting for Berry to earn more than $10,000 in flight vouchers.

For three nights, Berry stayed in different hotels across Naples. She said American Airlines booked her in four-star hotels, and the properties ranged in quality and location. Some were in the heart of Naples, while others were on the outskirts.

The first hotel, the Grand Hotel Vanvitelli, was the most luxurious, she said. According to TripAdvisor , rooms cost between $122 and $138 a night, and the property has a pool, an elegant restaurant, and rooms with balconies.

"Definitely the nicest hotel I stayed in during my trip," she said.

Berry said each hotel she stayed at while waiting for a flight had a restaurant where she charged breakfast, lunch, and dinner to her room and ate for free.

Her free hotel stays, meals, and flight vouchers ended on August 7, three nights after her first bumped flight. BI verified that Berry earned $3,550 in flight vouchers, with one voucher worth $1,150 instead of $1,200.

In a statement to BI, an American Airlines spokesperson said, "When you volunteer to give up your confirmed seat on a flight, we will compensate you in a form and in an amount we think is fair."

The flight vouchers expire within a year, but Berry isn't concerned about jet-setting off to new destinations. Photographing in places like Rio de Janeiro and the Seychelles Islands is at the top of her list.

With a challenging start to the year, Berry said that this summer in Italy, along with a new travel fund and the memories from this experience, has left her "grateful."

"It makes me feel like me again," she said. "I feel like I'm engaging with community. I'm saying yes to unknown things, and that's what makes me tick."

Airlines owe you a lot less than you'd think when weather gets in the way of your flight

Sunday was a rough day for many air travelers, and some are still struggling to get to their destinations.

Nearly 2,500 U.S. flights were canceled and more than 9,800 flights were delayed Sunday, according to flight tracker FlightAware . More than 1,500 flights are canceled and over 3,000 more are delayed as of noon E.T. Monday.

American Airlines appears to have been particularly impacted with nearly 20% of their flights canceled and a third delayed on Sunday.

"American Airlines is monitoring the track of Tropical Storm Debby and has issued a  travel alert  allowing customers whose travel plans are affected to rebook without change fees," the airline said in a statement to USA TODAY on Monday. "Customers can reschedule their travel on  aa.com  or by contacting Reservations at 800-433-7300 in the United States or Canada. American will continue tracking this system with our customers' and team members' safety top of mind."

Its cancellations were down to 10% and delays down to 12% Monday, according to FlightAware, but social media is still peppered with frustrations from stranded travelers and videos of long airport lines for customer service.

"Our Reservations team is working diligently to support our customers during this period of higher call volume. We encourage customers to leverage  aa.com  or the mobile app, which supports nearly all needs a customer may need for their travel. Our team can also be reached through X at  @AmericanAir  or through Chat in the mobile app and  aa.com. ," American added.

Not all the disruptions are due to the storm, which made landfall in Florida Monday morning. There was also severe weather in the West, Midwest and East Coast on Sunday, according to the NOAA/National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center . Across airlines, upwards of one in four Sunday flights were delayed in cities as far ranging as San Diego, Detroit, Charlotte and New York.

Severe weather can also have a cascading effect on flights. And when weather is to blame, travelers are often stuck in a bind because airlines are not required to offer anything but refunds or rebooking when cancellations are outside their control. Here's what travelers should know.

What happens if my flight is canceled?

Department of Transportation rules  require all airlines to offer customers a refund if their flights are canceled for any reason. Customers may be entitled to additional compensation if a cancellation is within the airline's control. However weather is notably outside of airline control.

According to the DOT's consumer dashboard , if Alaska, American, Delta, Hawaiian, JetBlue or United cancel a flight for controllable reasons, they're committed to:

• rebooking passengers on the same airline or a partner airline, at no extra cost
• providing a meal or cash or voucher for a meal when the cancellation results in a passenger waiting at least 3 hours for a new flight
• providing complimentary hotel accommodations for any passenger affected by an overnight cancellation 
• providing complimentary ground transportation to and from a hotel for any passenger affected by an overnight cancellation

Allegiant, Southwest and Spirit will do all of the above except they do not rebook customers on partner airlines.

Frontier will not rebook travelers on other airlines nor cover a hotel for overnight cancellations.

What happens if a flight is delayed?

No federal laws currently require airlines to compensate travelers for delayed flights, but carriers have committed to various degrees of compensation for significant delays within their control. Each airline defines significant delays differently.

If a flight is significantly delayed for reasons within their control, Alaska, American, Delta, Jet Blue and United offer:

• providing a meal or cash or voucher for a meal when the delay results in a passenger waiting for at least 3 hours for departure
• providing complimentary hotel accommodations for any passenger affected by an overnight delay
• providing complimentary ground transportation to and from a hotel for any passenger affected by an overnight delay

Allegiant, Hawaiian, Southwest and Spirit do not rebook travelers on partner airlines, but offer the rest of the above. Additionally Alaska, JetBlue and Southwest also offer additional compensation when the flight is delayed by 3 or more hours for controllable reasons.

Frontier will offer the meal, but no hotel accommodations nor booking on other airlines.

What should I do if my flight is delayed?

Airlines will sometimes offer compensation beyond what they've formally committed to with the Department of Transportation.

For instance, according to  Delta's Customer Commitment , "Delta representatives are empowered with the flexibility and discretion to issue the following forms of compensation for passenger inconvenience when individual circumstances warrant doing so: cash equivalents (e.g., gift cards), travel credits/vouchers, and/or miles for SkyMiles members."

Travel insurance  can help offset costs tied to covered cancellations and delays.

Some credit card companies also cover unexpected travel expenses related to flight disruptions, if the flight was originally booked with their card.
