Thank you so much for two amazing weeks in Bali, Tina! From the first day on Tina arranged everything and answered every question I had during my stay. Everything was perfectly organized. My personal highlights which I can definitely recommend are:

– Private boat tour around the southern islands & snorkeling with manta rays – Gili Islands – Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking – Ubud waterfalls, coffee € tea farm, monkey forest – Surfing

Thanks for all the organization and good recommendations, Tina!

We just spend two great weeks in Bali with Tina as our travel agent and everything was perfectly organized so we didn’t have to worry about anything. Always reachable when having questions, Tina made it possible to enjoy every trip. Our L uxury Bali holidays were amazing!!

Starting with the sunrise on the top of Mount Batur, relaxing afterwards at hot spring, snorkeling with Manta rays, taking a trip trough Ubud, enjoying the landscape during a Rafting & Quad tour and close holidays at the beautiful Gili Islands…everything was fantastic, no regrets. Thanks!!

Went to Mt. Batur with Tina and everything was well coordinated. Tina was on-point with communication prior to the trip and made sure were having a great time during the trip itself! We also went to a spa after and another unplanned tourist spot which was breathtaking.

Bali is so beautiful and hiking up a volcano to see the sun rise was a once in a lifetime experience. Tina made the process smooth, super fun and enjoyable. Don’t even bother trying to pinch pennies with other tour providers, it’s simply not worth the chance of something going wrong and ruining what would be an amazing holiday experience. Overall this trip was perfectly planned and executed, with a lot of fun, great memories and amazing value. Highly recommended!

Bali Tours & Vacations

Tourists with their guide at a temple in Bali

There are 17,000 islands in the Indonesian archipelago, but none shine brighter than Bali.

See the green slopes of Mt Batur to the Bintang bodegas on Seminyak’s main party strip. Bali is a volcano-dotted, beach-fringed paradise that’s serene and sensational by turns. Beyond the mega-resorts and yoga studios, you'll find the essence of Bali, the temples, out-of-the-way mountain towns, local markets and lazy fishing villages. Our Bali tours have something for everyone. Dive the impossibly blue waters off Lovina. Be welcomed into a Balinese family home. Soak in the Banja hot springs or sip smoothies in Ubud’s cafes . As always, when it comes to paradise, the hardest bit is choosing what to do first.

Learn more about Bali

Local culture.

Between the 12th and 20th centuries, Bali has often been treated as a pawn in the games of kings, rajahs and generals. More often than not, its fate has been closely tied to neighboring Lombok with fierce battles between the two islands over the centuries as different rulers vied for regional dominance. This history of varied occupation can be seen in Bali today, with elements of Hinduism and Islam present in modern Balinese society. However, there is no historical animosity between the religions, or even between the islands of Lombok and Bali.

One of the defining moments in Bali’s history took place in the 16th century when the collapse of the Majapahit dynasty encouraged the spread of Islam from the surrounding states into the Javanese kingdom. Rather than live under Islamic rule, many Hindu elites chose to escape to Bali. These elites included many artists, dancers, musicians, actors and court-supported artisans, as well as some more artistically inclined priests. The result was an intense proliferation of cultural arts across Bali, no doubt inspired by rich Balinese folklore featuring epic battles of good and evil, gods and mortals. This reputation persists today, with many travelers falling in love with the island’s intricate temple carvings, dance performances, colorful sarongs and handicrafts.

When you combine a love of arts with world-class beaches and deliciously fiery sambals, it’s no surprise Bali’s tourism industry is soaring. It’s not unusual for someone to ask you whether this is your second, third or fourth visit to the island. Many locals rely on tourism to some extent, either by working as tour operators or running hotels, yoga studios, massage parlors, bars, cafes or restaurants.

The destination’s popularity with  Australians  means there’s a gradual cultural creep in larger cities like Seminyak, where Melbourne-style cafes and international clothing labels are particularly popular. If you escape the resorts and head further north from Denpasar, you’re more likely to encounter traditional warungs (eateries) and villages untouched by tourism sprawl.

One last word of advice: always watch where you put your feet. Locals will traditionally place small offerings on the footpaths outside their homes or businesses up to three times a day. 83.5% of the population identifies as Hindu and religion plays a large part in Balinese life. In fact, there is a small religious ceremony associated with just about every aspect of Balinese culture, whether it’s the beginning of a soccer game, celebrating the full moon or cleaning the house.

Food and drink

At first glance it might seem difficult to pinpoint Bali’s exact culinary identity. The mishmash of Indonesian and pan-Asian influences means you’re likely to come across menus that sometimes feel part Thai, Malaysian, Indian and Vietnamese. But no matter what you order, the food will always be fresh and bursting with flavor. Dishes are typically made fresh each day, with curries and pastes prepared by hand using traditional methods.

The most authentic food in Bali is usually found streetside at eateries called warungs. Warungs are common in every village and city, and a good place for a quick feed on a budget. Many will specialize in a small menu of popular local dishes.

Top foods to try in Bali

Babi guling:  This is slow cooking Balinese-style. A whole pig is stuffed with chilli, turmeric, ginger, galangal, shallots, garlic, coriander seeds and aromatic leaves and rotated over an open fire. This dish is commonly seen at celebrations.

Satay:  Sometimes spelt ‘sate’ on local menus, Indonesia is famous for its tasty meat skewers (usually chicken) cooked over hot coals and slathered in moreish peanut sauce.

Nasi campur:  Nasi campur feels like a bit of a buffet. Your plate typically comes with a scoop of nasi putih accompanied by small portions of a number of other dishes, including meats, vegetables, peanuts, eggs, and fried-shrimp krupuk.

Nasi goreng:  The old favorite among tertiary students is nothing like the local version. Nasi goreng, literally meaning "fried rice”, is a popular rice dish with pieces of meat and vegetables, and a fried egg added on top.

Sambal:  A fiery paste made using a chili base smashed with secondary ingredients like shrimp paste, fish sauce, garlic, ginger, shallot, scallion, palm sugar, lime juice, and rice vinegar.

Learn more about some of the dishes to try in Bali

Eating vegetarian in Bali

Going vegetarian is relatively easy in Bali as many dishes are already meat-free. Tofu and tempeh are also a standard part of the local diet. Key vegetarian dishes to look out for include nasi saur (rice flavored with toasted coconut and accompanied by tofu, tempeh, vegetables and sometimes egg), urap (steamed vegetables mixed with grated coconut and spices), gado gado (tofu and tempeh mixed with steamed vegetables, boiled egg and peanut sauce) and sayur hijau (leafy green vegetables, usually kangkung – water spinach – flavored with a tomato-chilli sauce).

The abundance of fresh fruits in Bali means you can buy fresh coconuts and juices (or fruity cocktails) almost anywhere you go. If you're looking for something with a bit more punch then you could order a Bintang, the national larger or maybe arak – a local liquor made from fermented rice and coconut palm flowers.

Festivals and events

Many festivals in the Balinese calendar revolve around religious and spiritual occasions marked by periods of prayer or silence, and followed by lots of festivities and feasting. Some festivals might be inconvenient for travelers, such as the Day of Silence, but they’re also a great opportunity to gain an insight into local life that many don’t get to see.

Multiple surf contests are held throughout the year at different times and in different places. Check with local surfing schools for up to date information.

Top festivals in Bali

Nyepi (Day of Silence):  Bali’s major Hindu festival, Nyepi, or the Day of Silence, celebrates the beginning of a new year and is marked by inactivity. Legends say that this is a strategy to convince evil spirits that Bali is uninhabited and therefore not worthy of visiting! Jokes on them. The day involves prayer, meditation and quiet reflection.

Bali Arts Festival:  For an island with a strong history of cultural arts, it’s no surprise the Bali Arts Festival has pride of place in the annual calendar. Based at the Taman Wedhi Budaya arts center in Denpasar, travelers can see village-based dance groups competing for local pride across several traditional dance categories. The date changes each year but is typically held between mid-June to mid-July.

Bali Kite Festival:  From July to October, the skies of southern Bali fill with huge, colorful monsters, critters and imaginative creations. Scores of kites are launched by the locals as part of this special spiritual event. It is believed the kites urge the gods to provide abundant harvests.

Indonesian Independence Day:  Held on 17 August each year, this day celebrates Indonesia's independence from the Dutch in 1945. Expect to see legions of marching school children, flags, kites and fireworks. Don’t expect to get anywhere quickly either on the day or the days leading up to it.

Galungan and Kuningan:  Galungan celebrates the death of a legendary tyrant called Mayadenawa. The celebrations come to a head with the Kuningan festival, which is when the Balinese say thanks and goodbye to the gods. The exact dates of these two festivals vary as they are planned using the 210-day wuku (or Pawukon) calendar.

Geography and environment

Bali is undoubtedly Indonesia’s most popular province thanks to its abundance of beautiful beaches, leafy jungles and impressive mountains. Located just east of Java and west of Lombok, the Bali province includes not only the island of Bali but also a few of the smaller neighboring islands, such as Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan.

Bali's highest mountain is Mt Agung (3,031 m, 9,944 ft), which is also known as the "Mother Mountain”. One of the other popular volcanoes on the island is Mt Batur. Both of these volcanoes have contributed to Bali’s incredibly fertile soil, which has allowed the rice crop trade to flourish.

Bali is located just 8 degrees south of the equator, which means it enjoys a fairly even climate year-round. The average year-round temperature hovers around 86°F, with a humidity level of about 85%. It's also surrounded by coral reefs and is part of the Coral Triangle, an area with the highest biodiversity of marine species. Over 500 reef-building coral species can be found here, which is seven times the entire Caribbean.

Bali’s problems with environmental pollution are well-documented, and it’s fair to say that the nearly 5.7 million tourists who visit annually are contributing their fair share. In late 2017, Indonesian officials declared a “garbage emergency” after a tide of plastic washed up a 5.8 kilometer (3.6 mile) stretch of coastline. We encourage all travelers to carry a reusable plastic bottle with them, a reusable tote bag for carrying items and to try and minimize their use of plastics wherever possible.

While you’ll find many of the main tourism hubs, like Seminyak and Kuta, filled with international fashion labels, there are also many local boutiques offering a wide variety of hand-made goods. These include traditional wood carvings (and even some famously phallic bottle openers), silver jewelry, colorful sarongs, eco-friendly bags, bamboo satchels, recycled furniture and a near limitless range of body oils and fragrances. Of course, if you’re looking for a traditional ‘I Heart Bali’ t-shirt or Bintang singlet, these are never in short supply either.

Like many parts of South East Asia, bargaining is a big part of the local shopping experience. Getting a good price comes down to how well you can haggle, but it’s important to have fun, bargain in good faith, and remember to smile. You’ll usually find better prices, and more negotiable shop owners, away from the main tourist strips.

When is the best time to visit Bali?

Sitting a snug 8 degrees from the equator, Bali’s climate is classic tropics. There’s a dry season and a rainy season, and not a whole lot in between.

The best time for a Bali tour (weather-wise) is the July to August peak season, or from December to the first week of January.

Although if you’d like to avoid the crowds (and why wouldn’t you) shoulder months like April, May, June and September make an excellent alternative.

The weather is dry and slightly less humid, and the island in general is a lot more relaxed.

October isn’t too bad either, especially if you’re into water sports like scuba diving, surfing or snorkeling (the rainfall is much lighter than in November).

Do you need a visa for a Bali tour?

The short answer is maybe – depending on your nationality. Passport holders from over 60 countries (including the   UK ,   Australia   and the   United States ) can enter Indonesia with a free tourist visa on arrival which allows you to stay for 30 days for tourism purposes. An immigration officer will date stamp your passport when you arrive and you will not be able to extend your stay. If you overstay there are hefty fines of IDR 1,000,000 (approximately 70 USD) per day.

If there's a chance you might want to stay longer than 30 days, you'll need to pay for a visa on arrival or apply for one prior to traveling at an overseas Indonesian consulate or embassy.

To enter Bali, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  • proof of onward or return ticket
  • proof of funds to pay for your expenses during your trip
  • completed immigration card (this will usually be given to you on the plane or at the arrival terminal)

Local laws require that you must be able to show your valid passport at any time when required to do so by an immigration office. We recommend taking a clear photocopy of your passport photo page, and visa (after arriving), to carry with you.

This page is for general information only and may be subject to change. It is your responsibility to obtain relevant visa and travel information required for entry, departure and travel to each country or region you visit on your trip. You should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates.

Should I tip on a Bali tour?

Tipping isn’t compulsory in Bali, or anywhere else in Indonesia. But, like most countries, it’s very much appreciated.

Remember that many Balinese rely on tourism as a main source of income, and a tip is always appreciated.

What is the internet access like in Bali?

In tourist centers like Kuta, Seminyak, Denpasar, and Lovina internet access should be fine, and there will be plenty of internet cafes (or cafes with free internet) to choose from if your Wi-Fi isn’t up to scratch.

In more rural areas, there could be little or no coverage, particularly during homestays. Just remember to plan ahead.

What are the toilets like in Bali?

Restaurants and hotels in developed tourist centers will have Western-style flush toilets.

In more rural areas the traditional squat toilet will be more common.

We recommend packing a bottle of hand sanitizer if you plan to visit rural parts of Bali.

What will it cost for a...?

Indonesia is one of the world's favorite budget travel destinations. Here's what you can roughly expect to pay for a:

  • Street food snack = 0.15c USD
  • Fresh juice = 0.40c USD
  • Bottle of beer in a bar = 1.50 USD
  • Souvenir sarong = 1.80 USD
  • Dinner in a restaurant = 3 USD

Can I drink the water on a Bali tour?

Drinking water from taps isn’t recommended in Indonesia, but for environmental reasons try to avoid buying bottled water every day. There are a number of filtered canteens you can purchase or bring a supply of water filtration tablets that you can drop into your bottle wherever you go.

If you’re traveling on an Intrepid Travel trip, we always carry with us a large drum of water in our truck to refill your bottles on the road. Our hotel operators will also provide water free of charge to refill your bottles.

Are credit cards accepted widely in Bali?

Major credit cards are widely accepted by large shops, hotels and restaurants in Bali.

T hey may not be accepted by smaller vendors such as small family restaurants, market stalls or in remote towns and rural areas.

Make sure you carry enough cash for purchases since credit cards aren't always an option everywhere in Bali.

What is ATM access like in Indonesia?

ATMs are found widely throughout Bali, so withdrawing cash shouldn't be problematic in most areas. Some smaller villages and rural areas may not have ATM access, so be prepared for this before venturing too far from a city or major town.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?

Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

For more information on insurance, please go to: Travel Insurance

What public holidays are celebrated in Bali?

Public holidays may vary from year to year. Find out more information on current public holidays in Bali.

Are Intrepid trips accessible for travelers with disabilities?

We are committed to making travel widely  accessible , regardless of ability or disability. We do our best to help you see the world, regardless of physical or mental limitations.

We are always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them toward the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

Is Bali safe for LGBTQIA+ travelers?

Homosexuality is legal in most of Indonesia, however, revisions to Indonesia’s criminal code are currently being considered that would criminalize gay sex and same-sex relationships. Advocacy groups fear this would represent a profound setback to human rights in Indonesia as a result. The LGBTQIA+ community has also been known to be targeted and harassed by police.

Bali, with its Hindu majority, has always been more liberal, tolerant and relaxed in attitude, however, public displays of affection are still not the norm for any couples anywhere in the country. Upscale hotels will likely not have any issues with same-sex travelers sharing a bed, however, if you are staying in budget or family-run businesses and are allocated separate beds, you might feel more comfortable not drawing attention to your relationship.

Because sex, in general, is a taboo subject in Indonesian society, the issue of sexuality is unlikely to arise while traveling here. Indonesia is generally safe for queer travelers, provided you are willing to be discreet and cautious with public behavior.

Recommended Tours

Up in the hills of Tana Toraja in South Sulawesi lies the indigenous Toraja people. Known for its ancient traditions, Tana Toraja offers an uncommon cultural experience to this timeless civilization famous for the Toraja’ Tongkonan houses, unique burial rituals and cliff-top hanging graves. Visit Jogyakara, affectionately known as Jogya, renowned for its awe-inspiring Borobudur Temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world. Yogyakarta is also known as the “‘Kraton”, the Sultan’s Palace, and centre of Yogya’s traditional life that emanates the spirit of refinement and Yogya art for centuries. For the active traveler, very few excursions are as invigorating as climbing Mount Bromo. Standing at nearly 7,500 ft, this active volcano is one of the most iconic mountains in Indonesia that has lured adventurers the world over. For those seeking that not-so-ordinary vacation experience, Indonesia must just be that perfect destination.

From Bali’s idyllic beaches to Bromo’s active volcanoes. Ubud’s charming artisan colony to Jakarta’s bustling cityscape. Yogyakarta’s millennium old temples to Toraja’s timeless traditions. Indonesia has something for everyone.

All visitors traveling to Indonesia must be in possession of a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival and have proof of onward passage. Foreign nationals from 169 countries are exempt from having to apply for a tourist visa for up to 30 days, which cannot be extended.

For additional details regarding entry requirements and other types of visas (work, long stay, student, etc.), please refer to the Indonesia Tourism Website .

Indonesia’s climate is tropical. Temperatures average between 21C and 33C. In the mountains, however, it can go as low as 5C at night. Humidity varies between 60% and 100%.In general, Bali experiences two seasons: moist and wet! The rainy season is normally from November to March, during which it can rain for several hours each day. The rain tends to be intermittent, however, with plenty of sun in between. The dry season is normally from May to October.

Climate is generally warm, humid and wet. Light cotton clothing is highly recommended and be sure to pack a light waterproof jacket.

As of February 9, 2015, all airlines departing from Indonesia were required to include the airport departure tax in the airfare price. This regulation includes both domestic flights, and international flights departing from Indonesia.

On Domestic flights, passengers are allowed 44 pounds of luggage per person for most carriers. Low fare carriers, however, do charge a fee for checked baggage. The cost varies depending on the city pair and method of purchase (prepaid vs at check-in). When booking these flights on your own, be sure to pre-purchase this service before arriving at the airport as they will be much more expensive at check-in. If you're booked on one of our Indonesia tours, checked baggage service of up to 20kg is always included.

On International flights, passengers are allowed two pieces of checked luggage. Excess luggage fees will be charged if you check more than the stated allowances, and these charges are your responsibility.  At most major airports, baggage carts are available for your luggage, usually for a small additional fee.

The local currency is the Indonesian rupiah (‘Rp’ or ‘IDR’). There are Rp100, Rp500, and Rp1,000 coins and Rp1,000, Rp5,000, Rp10,000, Rp20,000, Rp50,000, and Rp100,000 paper notes. The currency rate is US$1 = approx. 15,000IDR (April 2020).

Compare the exchange rates on offer before changing money at money changers or banks. Although banks may offer an added measure of professionalism and security, it’s not uncommon for money changers to offer better rates.

ATMs are available in tourist areas throughout Indonesia, though transaction fees can be high depending on the bank. Major credit cards are accepted in most major stores and hotels. Smaller merchants may accept only cash and/or often add a small surcharge to card transactions.

The international dialing code for Indonesia is +62.

International Direct Dialing (IDD) service is provided at all hotels featured in our Indonesia tour packages. SIM Cards for your mobile phones are also widely available and quite inexpensive. You may also check with your mobile service provider if an international plan may be available.

Internet Access will be available at all hotels (except during stays at eco lodges where connectivity may be limited) although charges may apply. Wifi is widely available in public areas including restaurants and hotel lobby. Mobile Apps such as WhatsApp, Skype and Facebook Messenger provide free/cheap and convenient ways to stay connected.

Most hotels provide postal services for documents and small packages.

Indonesian law forbids visitors from bringing weapons, illegal drugs, or pornography into the country. Penalties can be severe and include death for weapons or drugs. You may bring a maximum of two liters of alcohol, 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or 100 grams of tobacco, and a reasonable amount of perfume with you. Visitors must surrender a signed customs declaration in order to clear customs inspection upon arrival.

There are no restrictions on the amounts of foreign currency that can be taken into/out of Indonesia. However, you cannot import or export more than Rp5million. The total cost of gifts taken into the country must not exceed US$100.

The value of personal goods is valued for US$250 per passenger.

Voltage in Indonesia is 220 volts although most portable electronic devices such as phones, laptops and cameras do not require an electrical converter. However, we do suggest bringing a set of adapters that can change the shape of the plug prongs.

Nearly all hotels featured in your Bali tour package  (other than rustic homestays or adventure lodges) provide hair dryers and other amenities expected in an international standard 4 or 5-star hotel.

Tap water is NOT safe to drink and ice cubes should be avoided outside of hotels and/or tourist restaurants. Bottled water is inexpensive and widely available.

There are no vaccinations required for entering Indonesia from anywhere around the world, except for travelers arriving from smallpox and cholera infected areas.

Reasonable medical facilities are available in major towns but once outside these areas, medical services tend to be very poor. Make sure that you have adequate health insurance that covers evacuation and consider inoculations against typhoid, cholera, Japanese encephalitis and hepatitis. There is a risk of malaria in many parts of Indonesia and it is recommended that you take advice regarding anti-malarials. It is always best to check the current situation and any vaccination requirements with your doctor when planning your trip.

Tipping is not traditionally a custom in Indonesia, although it is becoming common in tourist areas. A Government Tax of 11% is added to bills and many restaurants and larger hotels also add a 10% service charge. Additional tipping is optional and 5-10% of the bill is acceptable. Tip porters at your hotel or the airport around $1 per bag.

For your transfers and sightseeing included in your Indonesia or Bali tour package itinerary, we recommend tipping between $10-$15 per person per full day of service. This amount is to be split between the guide and driver at a 2:1 ration. You may, of course, adjust this amount up or down depending on the level of service you received.

All airport and sightseeing transportation are included in our Indonesia & Bali tours. Airport transfers and most sightseeing are provided via private cars. While on your own in Bali,  you are free to explore on your own. We suggest using taxis instead public buses.

Climate is generally warm, humid and wet. Light cotton clothing is highly recommended and be sure to pack a light waterproof jacket. Other essential items include: valid Passport. Travelers Checks. Copy of Your Airline Ticket. Your Medicines. Departure documents. Travel Portable electronic devices.Sunscreen/Tan lotion. Mosquito Repellent. Pocket size Kleenex. Folding Umbrella.  Comfortable walking shoes.

I want to express my immense gratitude for the extraordinary honeymoon experience you orchestrated for my husband and me in Bali. From the very beginning, it was evident we were in capable hands and your team made every effort to ensure our journey was nothing short of magical. First and foremost, I must commend our Zicasso travel coordinator for his exceptional organizational skills. His meticulous planning and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of our seamless and unforgettable experience, which was truly heartwarming. Even during the trip, we were able to make adjustments to the itinerary and really customize it to make it what we wanted. Our guide was a highlight of our adventure. His deep knowledge of Bali's rich culture and history added a layer of depth to our explorations. His enthusiasm and genuine love for his homeland shone through in every interaction. Whether we were exploring ancient temples, enjoying local cuisine, or simply taking in the breathtaking scenery, he made each moment special. Our driver was not just a driver but a friendly companion throughout our journey. His expert navigation and warm personality made our road trips enjoyable and stress-free. The travel agency truly went above and beyond in working with us to help craft a honeymoon that perfectly blended adventure and romance. The carefully curated itinerary, exquisite accommodations, and thoughtful touches made us feel like we were living a dream. Your team's commitment to providing exceptional service did not go unnoticed and we are incredibly grateful for the memories you helped us create.

Our trip was great, and we have no complaints about the travel company, which was very supportive and responsive to any requests and last-minute changes of plans.  We normally like to explore off-the-beaten paths when we travel, but instead, we felt like we were following more of the touristy crowd.  As a young couple who enjoy adventure, we would have appreciated the guide helping us explore places that are more for locals.  We noticed that the travel company was not too familiar with the hotels we stayed in and we think it might be important for the agents to see the locations in person to provide better guidance.

Our eight-day Bali vacation was a dream come true! I shared my vision of a 20th-anniversary trip filled with relaxation, sightseeing, and adventure, and Zicasso’s travel planners crafted the perfect itinerary. They were incredibly accommodating throughout the planning process, making adjustments until everything was just right. With Balinese tour guides and drivers, we gained valuable insight into the island and its culture. Our co-ordinator communicated with us daily to ensure everything was going smoothly and we were satisfied. It was my first time using a travel agency, and ours truly made our 20th anniversary special.

Our trip to Japan was everything we wanted it to be. Our Zicasso travel agent was extremely knowledgeable and wonderful to collaborate with in planning our trip. She had great ideas and arranged some very special activities, including a private cooking class in Kyoto. The support we received before and during our trip (including 24/7 in-country emergency support) was outstanding.

As first-time travelers to Southeast Asia, we wanted a travel company that would tailor a trip to our wishes, provide seamlessness as we moved among the countries, and be responsive to daily changes that might occur. Zicasso's travel operator was all that and more. From the extremely helpful pre-trip consult to the back and forth regarding various possibilities, the proactive recommendations based upon deep experience in the areas, the carefully selected guides and drivers, and handling little wrinkles as they occurred, our travel agent and his team were absolutely tops. We loved each stop and, as a result, have become promoters of visiting such a fascinating and welcoming part of our world.

Our family of four traveled to Japan, visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, and the Hakone area. The Zicasso travel agency put together great properties. We loved the locations of each and their amenities. We had excellent seats on the bullet train. Our driver and tour guide in Kyoto were outstanding! We felt there was definitely a communication misstep with our plans for Tokyo however. Our driver/guide was very lovely, but not very definitive on what we were doing each day. We felt we had communicated with the driver and the travel company as to what we wanted to do, but for example, when we went to do our food tour of Tokyo, it was paired with a visit to the fish market. We asked if the food tour was after the market, to which our guide said yes. However, about two hours into the fish market we realized that was his idea of the food tour. There was no specific plan of what we were to try and no explanation of the items. Instead, we walked around and bought a few things we wanted to try. We shared everything as we were saving room for the food tour that really never happened. It was frustrating as we felt our guide was more of a driver and less of a guide. Communication was definitely a factor, which is why we hired the travel agency.

Travel agent Jasmine in Indonesia

Jasmine's Travel Agency

 Based on  6  reviews

The moment I spoke with Jasmine from the travel agency for the first time, I knew that I was going to work with somebody who would understand my interests. Not only were Jasmine and her team accommodating, but they made sure I was able to get some rest in certain aspects of the trips where they could anticipate I would need a break. Very, very organized. They knew how to coordinate the entire trip, especially since I traveled to four islands (Java, Borneo, Bali, Nusa Penida). The whole team was very accommodating, and I do not have enough words to express how great I felt about their service. When I arrived in Jakarta, I was immediately greeted by airport staff who helped me get my luggage and take me to the hotel. I was then met by the team who took time out of their busy schedule and showed me the Jakarta airport and Jakarta. They even took me out for dinner where I had an authentic Indonesian meal for the first time. Afterwards, every day, I was picked up by assigned guides and drivers who I felt safe with and could trust for that day. I learned so much about Indonesia, its history, and its cultures. All the guides were friendly and very informative, making sure I felt comfortable. They even asked me questions about America, my culture, and my philosophy. The team made sure I got to every site and made sure I was safe throughout the trip. Even all the hotels and resort areas I stayed in were amazing, clean, and beautiful. Overall, I highly, highly recommend this travel company to everyone who wants to visit Indonesia. I was heard by them, I felt safe with them, and I was able to trust them. They treated me like a family member and I had a very memorable experience!

Indonesia - Private Travel

The world’s largest archipelago is the embodiment of enchantment, a wellspring of fascinating nature and a captivating mix of cultures.

The endangered Komodo dragon is the largest lizard on earth, named after their home island, which forms part of the Komodo National Park.

A well-preserved natural ecosystem, rainforests spread over more than half the nation, long stretches of beaches, ample waves for surfing, superb diving, centuries-old temples, exciting cuisine – all present luxury travel experiences that cover a wide range of things to do in Indonesia. Beaches beckon – complete with extraordinary luxury beach resorts – in the Derawan Islands in Kalimantan, in Pulau Weh off the far northwest tip of Sumatra, and in Nusa Dua Beach and Nusa Tenggara on the southern tip of Bali, the popular island on everyone’s list. Trekking through the wilderness in Indonesia gives new meaning to getting away from it all. The four peninsulas of Sulawesi sport scores of opportunities for skirting volcanoes, witnessing cave paintings, indulging in agritourism and paddling through mangroves. On Sumatra, volcanoes are both numerous and unpredictable, with more than 100 listed as active. Visitors here head north to hike near Bukit Lawang, home to a large Sumatra orangutan sanctuary. Indonesia’s conservation efforts support one of the world’s highest levels of biodiversity, the famous flora and fauna a mix of Asian and Australasian species. In addition to orangutans, travellers may spot the Sumatran tiger, rhinoceros, Asian elephant and leopard, all of which have dangerously dwindling numbers. On your way in or out, make time for the capital city of Jakarta on the island of Java, established in the 4th century, now the cultural, economic and political centre of the nation.

Bali Honeymoons

Travel+Leisure World's Best Awards 2023 logo in white

Enjoy rejuvenating hotels, enchanting culture and incredible beaches in a luxury Bali honeymoon.

Bali is a honeymooner’s dream. Exotic beaches, rejuvenating five-star retreats, stylish shoreline hotels, an enchanting and rich culture, and adventure when and where you want it. Let Jacada Travel help you experience it in all the style, ease and romance your honeymoon ought to have.

We can create your perfect luxury Bali honeymoon, because your personal travel designer, with their first-hand knowledge of this island, will give you the very best advice when planning your bespoke itinerary to include; the best guides, private tours, romantic hotels, and the right combination of locations according to you.

Bicycle through the rice paddies and past ornate pagodas in Ubud; disappear to the north for real shoreline seclusion and great diving; spoil yourselves after the stresses of the wedding with some of the best well-being hotels in the world; then go dine on the finest seafood and hop the trendy beach bars of the South.

We can also easily include Bali into a wider honeymoon itinerary to South East Asia.

Bali’s enduring popularity with honeymooners is well deserved. Enjoy the south coast’s fine dining restaurants and sophisticated cocktail bars, discover hidden temples in the central highlands and get away from the crowds along the secluded north and east coastlines. Stay in first class luxury resorts and enjoy attentive service and private pool villas for a super romantic experience.

Our trip to Southeast Asia was a trip of a lifetime and an experience we will never forget, thanks to Kate and Cathy’s help and expert guidance. This was our first time using a travel agent and it was a great experience! Our local guide in Bali, Nyoman, was fantastic! He provided so much historical knowledge and was very funny. Ellie was absolutely fabulous. She did an exceptional job planning our honeymoon. She spent the time to get to know us and made sure to incorporate what spoke to us in our trip. The little touches (wine, chocolates, notes, fruit trays and lil gifts) were a lovely touch. Because of Ellie, we were able to have our dream honeymoon. We…

Best trip ever!! We loved our experience with Jacada! Ellie made us discover Bali the best way possible. She proposed so many activities we never would have found without her! We will definitely book another trip with Jacada in the future!

17 Things You Should Know Before Booking A Trip To Bali

B ali is a wonderful place to go since there's something there for everyone to enjoy, but there are some things a person should know before they plan a trip there. For example, those who are on a budget might want to know which hotels are the most highly rated and affordable ones in Bali .

Furthermore, some travelers might be interested in finding out which hotels are the most expensive ones in the area . Additionally, those who go there should know that there are some sacred mountains in Bali that they can check out during their stay.

However, those are not the only things one should know before they plan on traveling to Bali, so it is important for visitors to do some research on the area before they go. Bali is a stunning place, and in order to have the perfect trip there are just a few things to consider.

UPDATE: 2023/05/31 14:54 EST BY KHYATI DAND

More Things To Know Before Booking A Trip To Bali

Bali's lush forests, bubbling waterfalls, sweeping mountains, sacred temples, luxury wellness resorts, and sandy beaches attract thousands of visitors each month. As with any holiday destination, however, it's important to know a few things about Bali before visitors decide to cross the island off their bucket list. This list was updated to include more tips that future travelers will be glad they knew about before booking their flight ticket to the beautiful Indonesian island.

Say Goodbye To Uber

The streets of Bali are packed with motorbikes not just because it's a fun way to travel, but also because it is a necessity. Uber doesn't exist in Bali, public buses tend to crawl at a snail's pace, and private taxi hires tend to be pretty costly. This is why motorbikes and scooters rule in Bali. Visitors can rent their own two-wheelers for nominal charges or download Grab and Gojek which are both Bali's versions of on-demand Ubers.

Gojek also doubles up as a food delivery app and the platform also offers a bike-sharing option alongside car rides.

Make Peace With The Monkeys

While the Ubud Monkey Forest and the Monkey Temple in Uluwatu are popular haunts for monkey spotting in Bali, the little creatures can be found all over the island and they're quite the pranksters! Food should be eaten in front of them at one's own risk, hotel doors and windows should be locked when not in the room, bags must never be left unattended, and it's best to hold onto one's personal belongings when out and about in Bali because there's nothing a Balinese monkey won't run away with -- including the sunglasses on the top of a none the wiser tourist's head.

  • Hang Out With Monkeys In Their Sanctuary: Ubud Monkey Forest
  • Address: Jl. Monkey Forest, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia

Don't Fall For Tourist Price Tags (And Don't Be Afraid To Bargain)

Bali has a sea of opulent five-star wellness resorts which is why several shopping and dining spots cater to the affluent clientele and price their wares accordingly. Even temples are known to double their entrance fees for tourists! Don't fall for these traps as there are plenty of free attractions and good quality dining options as well as markets to shop from for travelers on a budget . Besides, most street sellers and small boutique owners are almost always willing to strike up a good deal so don't be afraid to bargain a little.

  • Best Place To Shop On A Budget: Sukawati Art Market
  • Address: Jalan Raya Sukawati, Sukawati, Kec. Sukawati, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80582, Indonesia

There's No Place Like Home

Where a traveler is based should definitely be considered before booking a trip to Bali. Canggu is a party town that is super wild and the perfect spot to learn how to surf and dance until the wee hours. Ubud is a yogi haven in the jungle where travelers can visit the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary and the Saraswati Water Temple. Another killer destination is Uluwatu where pro surfers shred, and beach babes lay their heads.

  • Ubud Lodging: Puri Garden Hotel & Hostel
  • Address: Jl. Raya Pengosekan Ubud No.63, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia

Not Every Beach Is Created Equal

Before flying to Bali for fun in the sun travelers must know that while the island is home to dozens of beautiful beaches, not all of them are selfie-worthy. Adventurous travelers should take a trek to the hidden gem, Nyang Nyang Beach for a special day away from the hustle and bustle of the must-visit surfer paradise of Uluwatu. For those who are here to lay out during the day and party at night head to Canggu. The local beach is perfect for beginners and is an incredible place to watch the sunset with a Bintang in hand.

  • Surf Lessons In Canggu: In Da Surf Camp & School Canggu Bali
  • Address: Jl. Kayu Tulang Gg. Ebony, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia

Dress To Impress (Respectfully)

One might think that if they go to Bali, it is perfectly fine for them to wear beach attire everywhere. However, that is actually not the case. Balinese people dress conservatively, and it is disrespectful to show too much skin in temples. There are many bars, restaurants, and even some clubs that have a dress code as well.

So, people who are planning to visit Bali might want to consider packing a few different kinds of items to wear during their stay including shawls for women and pants for men. Visitors can always call places they wish to go to and find out if they have a dress code.

  • Best Club In Bali: Single Fin In Uluwatu
  • Address: Uluwatu, Pantai Suluban, Jl. Labuansait, Pecatu, Kec. Kuta Sel., Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia

Bring An Umbrella-Ella-Ella

Travelers might be interested in knowing which stylish hotels in Bali are affordable , but that is not the only useful bit of information that they need to know. For example, something else a person should consider when they are thinking about planning a trip to Bali is that there might be rain. Those who go during Bali's off-season are likely to encounter rain during their stay. January, February, and October are months when it rains a lot in Bali. That shouldn't deter travelers though, visiting in the off-season offers a much more authentic experience on the island.

  • Best Hotel Rain Or Shine: Hanging Gardens Of Bali
  • Address: Buahan, Payangan, Gianyar Regency, Bali 80571, Indonesia

Don't Be Surprised If It's Standing Room Only

Bali's busy, there's no two ways around it. Swarms of tourists visit the island year-round. In 2022 1.19 million visitors came to soak up the sights and sun. Travelers should mentally prepare themselves for long lines at every location they've seen on Instagram and if they're there to surf it may take a while to catch a wave of their own. With that being said, plenty of destinations on the island are off the beaten track such as Sidemen or Semarapura which is an awesome alternative to Ubud.

Volcanoes Erupting Can Mean A No-Go

There are lots of luxury resorts in Bali that are super fun and relaxing places for everyone who visits them, but there are other things people should consider before going to Bali as well. For example, there are quite a few active volcanoes on the island. In fact, one of the volcanoes in Bali is called Mount Batur , and it is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia. This particular volcano has been known to erupt every few years.

Look Both Ways Before You Cross The Street In Bali

There are lots of amazing facts about Bali, but there are also some things that travelers who go there might not enjoy. Traffic is no joke on the island. In fact, sometimes the traffic in Bali is bad even when it is not rush hour. It can be hard for people to get somewhere on time. Travelers should consider this when they are thinking about booking a trip there. Safety precautions should also be taken. For instance, travelers should always wear a helmet and never drive while intoxicated.

Using the ridesharing service Gojek while in Bali is a game changer while visiting the island. Rides are super affordable and the drivers know how to maneuver anything that comes their way.

Who Let The Dogs Out?

Puppy problems can arise while traveling Bali. While stray dogs are unquestionably adorable and most are total snuggle bunnies travelers should be cautious. Many dogs wander the streets and beaches of Bali , and they should be treated with respect. Tourists should give pups their distance since some dogs can be aggressive. Additionally, Bali dogs are very protective, and some people believe that they use specific barks for various kinds of threats that they might encounter, including snakes.

It's hard not to fall in love with the furry friends that call Bali home. A great way to support them is to donate or adopt from various agencies on the island including Bali Dogs Association.

Bali Belly's Nothing To Be Worried About

Some travelers may have heard of "Bali Belly" or how visitors should be concerned about food poisoning while on the island. An upset tummy can ruin a trip, but it's easy to avoid. Tourists should only drink bottled water (also a good idea to use it when brushing their teeth), eat fruits with a peel...and then peel it before eating, and generally use common sense like they would anywhere. Local Indonesian cuisine is delicious and should be consumed by visitors. The fear of getting sick is a colonialist (and xenophobic) hangover that's grosser than any toilet emergency.

  • Canggu's Best Warung: Warung Bu Mi
  • Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.52, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia

"Warung" is the Indonesian word for a small restaurant or kiosk. There are a variety of homemade foods to choose from and customers can pick and choose what they want to pile on their plate before sitting down. Warungs are also super affordable on top of offering the best cuisine on the island.

Leaving Tips Is Not Expected In Certain Places (But That Doesn't Mean You Shouldn't)

Leaving a tip is something many people do all over the world, but whether or not to tip when abroad in a murky subject. Those who choose to visit some of the small restaurants that are located there need to know that customers are not expected to leave tips there. But that is not the case for bars. Lots of people who work in bars in Bali depend on the tips that they receive. Whether or not it is suggested, the right thing to do is always to err on the side of generosity. The minimum wage in Bali is around $140 a month and as a guest to the island travelers should always tip.

Bring Your Best Hiking Boots (Or Sandals With Support)

Those who are thinking about going on a trip to Bali should make a list of the things that they will need to take with them beforehand. One of the things they should make sure to bring is a good pair of shoes because visitors tend to do a lot of walking when they visit Bali. Also, some of the walking that travelers do there is on very uneven steps, so it is important for people to have good pairs of shoes to wear when they go there. Hiking boots, supportive sandals with straps, and sneakers are all good options to throw in a backpack in addition to flip-flops.

Leeches In Bali May Want To Suck Your Blood

Bali's beautiful, but the leeches in Bali are certainly not cute. Seeing a leech is not exactly uncommon in Bali (bummer). But the good news is that there are things travelers can do to keep the leeches away, or at least stop them in their tracks before they are out for blood. Wearing leech socks is a good idea . One can also tuck their pants into boots. If a person is not wearing a pair of boots, they can tuck their pants into their socks.

Bali Is A Great Place For Cheap Massages

There are a lot of really fun and relaxing things one can do when they take a trip to Bali, and one of those things is getting a massage. But the best part of that is the fact that massages are actually pretty affordable there. Additionally, some spas offer much more than a massage. Many of them offer customers a great view while they are getting their massages, and some even offer refreshments as well, such as a cup of tea.

Visitors Need To Cover Up If They Wish To Visit The Temples

There are more than 20,000 temples located in Bali, and lots of tourists enjoy visiting them. Travelers are expected to cover up before entering the temples. They should have shirts that cover their shoulders as well as their upper arms. Additionally, visitors need to wear something that covers their legs, such as a temple scarf or a sarong. It is important to respect customs like this when visiting Bali. Hinduism is the primary religion on the island and as an outsider, it is wise and polite to research temple etiquette before arriving at any holy location.

‘Stay alert’: Urgent warning for Bali tourists

A woman was deported from Bali for installing skimming devices on ATMs across popular resorts, with Aussie tourists warned to stay cautious when using cash machines.

The 35-year-old Ukranian woman, identified by her initials BK, was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison and fined IDR 100,000,000 – about $10,000 – by the Denpasar District Court in 2022.

A woman was deported from Bali last week for installing skimming devices on ATMs.

She was deported from the island last week to Poland over the skimming case, according to The Bali Sun.

A skimmer is a device installed on card readers that collects card numbers which are then replicated into counterfeit cards.

A tourist showed a skimming device on an ATM in Rome in a TikTok. Picture: TikTok/sheerinproblems

“The BK case is a clear example of the Bali Ministry of Law and Human Rights’ commitment to maintaining state sovereignty and protecting the public from law violations,” Pramella Y. Pasaribu, head of the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights told the publication.

“We will continue to improve co-ordination with related agencies and strengthen supervision of the presence of foreigners in the Bali region.”

It comes as the latest deportation figures reveal 318 foreigners were denied entry into Bali with 132 not having an Indonesian visa.

Following the ATM skimming device scam, Aussies and tourists alike have been advised to use machines that are within banks or trusted spaces and where possible, avoid using ATMs that are placed on the street.

Tourists warned about Bali money scam

Travellers should look out for telltale signs such as of tampering or additional readers being stuck on top.

“Look for signs of tampering or features that don’t fit with how the rest of the ATM looks, such as if the keypad is overly raised or looks too shiny and new,” Finder advises.

“Also look out for tiny cameras that could be planted anywhere around the machine (which may be used to capture your PIN as you enter it).

“If you notice any of these suspicious signs at the ATM, do not use it.”

Last year, a tourist revealed how a fraudster had placed a handwritten “broken” sign over the card slot of an Commonwealth Bank machine in an attempt to lure people to use a nearby ATM that was reportedly fitted with a card-skimming device.

Another tourist showed a ‘broken’ sign on a Commonwealth Bank ATM in Bali to divert people to use a nearby ATM allegedly fitted with a skimming device. Picture: Facebook

“Three or four people came through and went to go use the next ATM over, but I told them the ATM was fine, so they could use the Commbank one,” the traveller wrote in a Facebook post.

“The [man] kept on watching me like he was angry; as soon as I walked away, I watched him put another sign on it.”

Aussies have also been warned about other scams targeting tourists including a “coin scam” .

A woman took to a travel group for Australians visiting Bali on Facebook explaining how a known family, not local to the island, would go around asking Aussies if they can look at their money in an attempt to steal their wallets.

Angus Kidman, travel expert at Finder, said no matter where you’re travelling, being cautious with your wallet and cash was essential.

“Pickpocketing and theft are always a risk in any popular tourist area,” he told

“If someone asks to see your Australian money, an easy response is ‘not carrying any mate – don’t need Aussie currency here.’

“Don’t ruin your trip with paranoia – just exercise sensible basic precautions.”

According to Cover-More, other common travel scams in Bali include taxi drivers and monkey thieves at popular temples.

“Don’t negotiate fares with unofficial taxi drivers as they may use tactics like a broken metre, take a longer route, or charge far above the going rate. Take a reputable, official taxi instead,” Cover-More advises.

Currency exchange scams are also common with Cover-More advising to be aware of “official” looking money exchanges that will advertise a great rate, but offer the wrong change, miscount your money or handover invalid banknotes.

American Airlines’ New Loyalty Policy threatens travel agent ecosystem: WTAAA

' src=

The World Travel Agents Associations Alliance (WTAAA) is deeply concerned by American Airlines’ recent decision to impose punitive measures against travel agencies that choose to use third-party booking platforms. The airline recently announced that only bookings made directly with American or one of a small number of “preferred” agencies will qualify for AAdvantage miles accrual, leaving the vast majority of travel agency customers at a significant disadvantage. By discontinuing AAdvantage accrual on tickets booked through most agencies and imposing stringent thresholds for agencies to maintain preferred status, American is actively discouraging travellers from booking through the travel agency channel.

Airline loyalty programmes have long been a cornerstone of the travel industry, providing powerful incentives that drive repeat business and customer satisfaction. Travel agencies play an important role in helping consumers maximise the benefits of these programmes. American’s new policy undermines this mutually beneficial relationship, threatening to alienate loyal customers and disrupt the balance of the travel distribution ecosystem.

This heavy-handed tactic will fragment distribution, drive up costs, and reduce transparency for consumers who seek to compare offerings across multiple airlines. It also demonstrates a troubling disregard for the critical role that travel agencies play in serving travellers, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic when their expertise and personalised service were more valuable than ever.

WTAAA calls on American Airlines to reconsider this counterproductive policy and reaffirm its commitment to maintaining an open and equitable distribution landscape that serves the best interests of all industry stakeholders, including travel agencies and, most importantly, the travelling public. We urge the airline to engage in constructive dialogue with travel agency associations and other partners to find solutions that preserve consumer choice and uphold the principles of fair competition.

The travel industry thrives on collaboration, and WTAAA stands ready to work with American Airlines to develop policies that foster innovation, strengthen loyalty programmes, and ensure a bright future for the entire sector.
