Eluveitie Announce 2023 North American Tour

Folk Metal icons Eluveitie have announced a North American tour in early 2023. The first show will kick off in Baltimore Maryland at the Baltimore Soundstage on March 2nd, and the band will finally wrap up on April 1st in Richmond Virginia at the Canal Club.

Joining the band will be special guest Omnium Gatherum , and Seven Spires . Eluveitie has some new singles they recent really released over the past few months, and Annie Gurdy has joined the band as their new hurdy-gurdy player.

Tickets will be going on sale at 10 AM local time, and check out a full list of dates below.

Eluveitie have announced their return to North America for a 2023 headlining tour with Omnium Gatherum and Seven Spires. This is a trek you do not want to miss, which kicks off on March 2nd in Baltimore, MD and will run through April 1st in Richmond, VA. Tickets go on sale this Friday (18th) at 10:00AM local time.

LIVE REVIEW: ELUVIETIE NORTH AMERICA TOUR 2023

Eluveitie returned to North America for a 2023 headlining tour with Omnium Gatherum and Seven Spires. The tour which kicked off on March 2nd in Baltimore, MD and will run through April 1st in Richmond, VA made a stop yesterday in New York City’s The Gramercy Theatre. However just before the first show Eluveitie announced that bands vocalist Chrigel Glanzmann could not join them and released following statement on their website:

“Chrigel has had to make the difficult decision to stay at home and take care of certain matters, and we fully support him in this time of need.

This decision was made at the very last minute, which is why we are only able to announce it today, on the day of our first show. We understand that this news may come as a surprise, and we apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. However, we want to assure you that we are fully prepared to deliver a one-of-a-kind Eluveitie set, with Fabi taking the lead and showcasing her incredible talents.

In addition to Fabi, we are excited to announce that we will be joined by two amazing guest performers: Adrienne Cowan from Seven Spires and Jukka Pelkonen from Omnium Gatherum. They will be taking over Chrigel’s part, and we are confident that they will do an incredible job.”

None the less – the show must go on! And if you did not sing the last part of this sentence, you might not be real rock fan 🙂

First ones on the stage came American Melodic / Symphonic metal band from Boston called Seven Spires. To the date band has released three studio albums, with latest two years ago called Gods of Debauchery. Band opened with the title song from that album and followed with Cursed Muse and Succumb. Bands vocalist Adrienne Cowan provided excellent vocal range from growling to melodic singing. While performing the band expressed the gratitude of being back to perform stateside upon their return from touring Europe. They concluded set with Shadow on an Endless Sea and Dare To Live. All songs except Succumb represented latest release. Their set was a success as sold out venue roared in approval.

Finnish Melodic Death metal band Omnium Gatherum came on next. Just as Seven Spires, their latest release Origin saw daylight in 2021. Finnish guys are more experienced and have been around since 1996. Though their first album Spirits and August Light was released only in 2003. Since then the band has release nine studio albums. From the original lineup only Markus Vanhala is still with the band.

Their set was a trip down the memory lane as seven out of nine songs were from their earlier releases, with only Paragon and Reckoning hailing from latest album Origin. Their sound was different from Seven Spires as it was more technical and progressive and bands vocalist Jukka Pelkonen delivered blistering vocals. Crowd was immersed in their set as crowd surfers started to flow towards the stage and some brave men and women opened pit in a packed house. Bands “oldie” Ego from their 2011 album New World Shadows brought crowd to frenzy as moshers responded to Jukka’s request to open up that mosh pit for real. This was a strong and loud performance by the band, and it brought up the level of excitement to already pumped up crowd.

Just as Omnium Gatherum was different from Seven Spires, the nights main attraction Eluveitie plays fundamentally different style. The clean vocals of Fabienne Erni stood in sharp contrast with Adrienne’s and Jukka’s strong singing styles. And while Eluveitie incorporates unclean vocals by Chrigel Glanzmann their composite style is much more folk and melodic. As you read in the beginning on this tour exactly Adrienne and Jukka are filling in for Chrigel.

The first thing that strikes you when you see Eluveitie take the stage is abundance of all sorts of different instruments. While traditionally drum set is in the middle of stage, Eluveitie has it set up more to the side to have more room for other instruments, as to the other side they had set up Celtic harp which is played by Fabi and place for Matteo Sisti who plays bagpipes and whistles. Nicole Ansperger who plays violin usually finds herself next to Annie Riediger who plays hurdy-gurdy (I will not explain this instrument, just search it up). All that while you still have bass, lead guitar and rhythm guitar players. So, the stage is pretty crowded.

Some considerable parts of Eluveitie songs are sang in extinct Gaulish language, which was part of Celtic language for the people of continental Europe before Roman Empire, and covered the land that is now Switzerland from where Eluveitie hails. You would normally think that while only handful people in the whole world are familiar with this language, that it would not be helpful to sing in it. I would say Eluveitie has shown us that the contrary is true. It adds beautifully to the mysticism that the band embraces. Their lyrics are based on texts written in Gaulish such as prayers, invocations of the gods and other spirits.

Bands setlist spanned though their discography, while four songs were from latest release from 2019 called Ategnatos, which was bands eight studio album to date.

Atmosphere during Eluveitie performance was simply incredible as everyone enjoyed heavy riffs mixed with folk instruments fitting to satisfy even most strict music critics.

Dear fans of Eluveitie,

It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that Chrigel will not be able to join us on our upcoming North American tour due to a family emergency.

Chrigel has had to make the difficult decision to stay at home and take care of certain matters, and we fully support him in this time of need.

This decision was made at the very last minute, which is why we are only able to announce it today, on the day of our first show. We understand that this news may come as a surprise, and we apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. However, we want to assure you that we are fully prepared to deliver a one-of-a-kind Eluveitie set, with Fabi taking the lead and showcasing her incredible talents.

In addition to Fabi, we are excited to announce that we will be joined by two amazing guest performers: Adrienne Cowan from Seven Spires and Jukka Pelkonen from Omnium Gatherum. They will be taking over Chrigel's part, and we are confident that they will do an incredible job.

Chrigel comments:

"If I'm honest, I don't even know what to say, really. Sometimes life has its ways to put your feet back on the ground for sure, sometimes even your fucking face. We all have been waiting for this North American tour so badly. And now this. I can hardly believe this is happening. Due to a serious family emergency I am forced to stay at home and to not be part of this tour.

We literally had few hours only to consider things carefully, to find solutions and make final decisions. Well, we've decided that cancelling this tour on such short notice is not an option. We couldn't do this to you, our loyal fans, nor to the two amazing bands supporting this tour.

So this will be the first Eluveitie tour without myself in our entire history. As much as it feels hard to see things positively in this case, this is still an amazing example of how much the worldwide metal community is a fucking family, standing together like no one else: Jukka from Omnium Gatherum and Adrienne from Seven Spires declared themselves ready to comply with Eluveitie and to step in for myself - even on such a crazy short notice, which is unbelievable. I cannot express how thankful I am. And impressed.

Nonetheless this feels weird, bizarre and I don't know what. It might take some time to wrap my head around this.

But still I am sure that 'my' girls and guys will rock it hard, together with Omnium Gatherum and Seven Spires; I'm sure that this will still be an amazing tour and that you all will celebrate quite some unforgettable nights!

While we will miss having Chrigel with us on this tour, we made sure to be able to put on an unforgettable show for our fans. We hope that you will join us in supporting Chrigel and his family during this difficult time, and we look forward to seeing you at our shows.

Philadelphia Folk Festival returns after 2023 cancellation

SCHWENKSVILLE, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- A lush 84 acres of working farmland is once again home to the Philadelphia Folk Festival.

The festival had returned after being canceled last year.

"Our tickets sales have been great! We have a community that loves us and I think missed us," said Miles Thompson, president of the board of directors for the Philadelphia Folksong Society, which hosts the Philadelphia Folk Festival.

The festival started Thursday night. Friday marked the first full day.

"We have 90 performances give or take, 60 performers happening on seven stages over three days and four nights," said festival artistic director Kimberly Sinclair.

The music, vendors, food and fun are back after facing an uncertain future. Philadelphia Folk Festival was canceled last year as the Philadelphia Folksong Society dealt with financial challenges.

"We took a year off because we ended up in some really tough financial straits after the COVID-19 pandemic and we needed to restructure how we did things," said Thompson.

Members and donors stepped up, offering to pay 2023 dues -- even though there would be no festival that year -- to put the festival back on its feet. They also made a few adjustments.

"We have about half the performers we had last time because we had to cut costs," said Thompson.

Other than that, it's the same festival people have come to know and love since 1962.

"We really tried not to skip on the fan experience," said Thompson.

"This is something I look forward to every summer," said Tina Floyd of Coatesville. "This is probably my 15th year and my sister has come for about 50 years."

She and many others were glad to celebrate the festival's big comeback.

"We've got a lot going on," she said, "and it's amazing!"

John Oats, of the legendary Hall and Oats, performs on the main stage Saturday night.

The Philadelphia Folk Festival runs through Sunday. Tickets are sold both online and at the gate.

The Dune star was rumored to be dating Jenner when photos circulated of Jenner’s Range Rover parked in his driveway, per TMZ.

The photos came a week after celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi reported an anonymous tip that Chalamet “has a new girl,” naming Jenner.

A source told PEOPLE at the time that the two were "hanging out and getting to know each other .”

A Jenner source told PEOPLE that she and Chalamet would “ hang out every week ,” but added that it’s “not serious.”

"She is getting to know him," the insider said. "Kylie is having fun. After years of back and forth with Travis [Scott], she just wants to date without any pressure."

The source added that the two met at an event in Europe earlier in 2023 and that “they have a lot to chat about."

After her breakup with Scott in January, the insider said her family was supportive of her moving on and finding a new beau.

A month after rumors swirled around the two, a source told PEOPLE that Jenner was still seeing Chalamet, however, it was still “ not serious .”

“Kylie enjoys dating, but her main focus is being a mom,” the insider said.

On Scott’s album, Utopia , the rapper seemed to throw shade at Chalamet with a line from his song “Meltdown.”

Scott rapped about a “ Willy Wonka factory ” which could refer to Chalamet’s new character in his upcoming film, Wonka . He then seemingly challenged his ex to find another man as “hot as me.”

“Chocolate AP and chocolate the Vs got the Willy Wonka factory (Vs)/ Burn a athlete like it's calories, find another flame hot as me, bitch,” Scott sang.

Jenner and Chalamet packed on the PDA while enjoying Beyoncé’s performance at SoFi Stadium. The outing marked their first public appearance — and the first time fans saw them together. 

In a video shared on social media, the two young stars chatted and Jenner was even captured laughing as Chalamet smoked a cigarette. Jenner’s sister, Kendall Jenner , also joined them. 

A video obtained by TMZ showed the two kissing on multiple occasions throughout the night.

A source told PEOPLE that the relationship is “fun and uncomplicated” for Jenner.

“They have been seeing each other for six months now. He makes Kylie happy,” the insider said. “He has his own life and understands that Kylie needs to prioritize her kids.” 

“He is charming, very loving and protective of Kylie,” the source added. “She likes that he is a private guy.”

A source told PEOPLE that Chalamet joined Jenner and a group of friends for a " birthday bash in the Bahamas ," adding that the couple is "very serious."

For weeks, Republicans have pummeled Vice President Kamala Harris on immigration, blaming her for President Biden’s policies at the border.

Now, Ms. Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, is seeking to neutralize that line of attack, one of her biggest weaknesses with voters, running a playbook that Democrats say has worked for them in recent elections and staking out her clearest position yet as a tough-on-crime prosecutor focused on securing the border.

This week, she has hit back by promising to heighten border security if elected and slamming her Republican opponent, former President Donald J. Trump, for helping kill a bipartisan border deal in Congress. And her campaign has walked back some of the more progressive positions she took during her bid for the Democratic nomination in 2019, including her stance that migrants crossing the U.S. border without authorization should not face criminal penalties.

“I was attorney general of a border state,” Ms. Harris, who was once California’s top prosecutor, said on Friday at a rally in Arizona, a swing state where immigration is a top concern for voters. “I went after the transnational gangs, the drug cartels and human traffickers. I prosecuted them in case after case, and I won.”

A day earlier, the Harris campaign released a television advertisement highlighting her pivot. The ad, targeted to voters in the battleground states, promised that Ms. Harris would “hire thousands more border agents and crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking.” It made no mention of undocumented immigrants already in the United States — a top priority for many progressives and immigration activists — although in her Arizona speech Ms. Harris stressed the importance of “comprehensive reform” that includes “an earned pathway to citizenship.”

No other Democratic nominee has taken a position this tough on border security since Bill Clinton. Her stance reflects a change in public opinion since Mr. Trump left the White House in 2021. More Americans, including many Democrats and Latino voters, have expressed support for hard-line immigration measures.

The shift in public opinion comes as Republicans have escalated their rhetoric against migrants. Border crossings skyrocketed during the Biden administration, though more recently they have sharply declined since a Biden executive order designed to clamp down on the border. The question for Ms. Harris is whether her new message as the party’s standard-bearer will come too late for voters who have already formed opinions of her record.

Senior Trump campaign officials have ranked immigration as among Ms. Harris’s deepest vulnerabilities and sought to pin responsibility for the Biden administration’s policies on her, calling her the “border czar.” The title far exceeds the actual policy portfolio given to her by Mr. Biden, who asked her to address the root causes of migration from Latin America.

Democratic polling has raised similar concerns about Ms. Harris’s immigration record. Blueprint, a Democratic group, recently tested six potential Republican lines of attack on Ms. Harris — including labeling her the “border czar” — and found that those involving immigration were the most effective, even more so than attacks related to the economy and inflation.

Other polls have shown that voters place more trust in Mr. Trump’s ability to handle border issues than in Ms. Harris’s. But if Ms. Harris can at least counter Republican arguments on immigration, she may be able to sway voters on issues more friendly to Democrats, such as abortion, her allies say.

The decision for the Harris campaign to frame her record as California attorney general as a “border-state prosecutor” stands in contrast to how she ran in the 2020 Democratic primary.

Then, during a debate, she raised her hand in response to a question about whether people who are here illegally should be eligible for public health care.

For his part, Mr. Trump has attacked Ms. Harris over the border in dark terms, engaging in fear-mongering about migrants and using dehumanizing language to falsely paint them as a threat to Americans .

“Every day, Kamala is letting migrant criminals roam free to assault, rape, mutilate and kill our citizens,” the former president said at a rally in Montana on Friday.

Chris DeRose, a Republican who served as a clerk of courts in Arizona’s Maricopa County, said many swing voters would be dubious of Ms. Harris’s rhetoric.

“She’s part of the Biden-Harris administration,” Mr. DeRose said. “There’s going to be some skepticism.”

But Ms. Harris and her allies have tried to make Mr. Trump’s immigration record into its own campaign issue. This year, Mr. Trump successfully convinced Senate Republicans to kill a bill supported by Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris that would have effectively mandated that the border be shut down to migrants when numbers reached certain levels and that vastly expanded detentions and deportations.

“Donald Trump tanked the deal,” Ms. Harris said in Arizona as a crowd of more than 15,000 supporters booed. “Because he thought by doing that it would help him win an election.”

Jen Cox, a senior adviser for the Harris campaign in Arizona, said Democrats in that state, including Senator Mark Kelly, had won elections with tougher messages on immigration.

“Voters want to see folks be serious about actually fixing the broken immigration system and securing the border,” Ms. Cox said in an interview. “They don’t want to see folks play politics with it.”

In a closely watched special election in New York this year, Tom Suozzi, a Democrat, won a competitive House race after slamming Mr. Trump over the scuttled border deal and taking unusually hard-line stances for a member of his party, including calls to temporarily shut down the border and deport migrants who assault the police.

“The most effective politician is the one that says what the people are thinking already,” Mr. Suozzi said. “And people are talking about this issue. They are very much concerned about it. And the vice president can continue to emphasize that, yes, we recognize this is a problem and we are willing to compromise to solve the problem, unlike the other side.”

Harris campaign aides say her move to the center since the 2020 primary had been shaped by her time as vice president.

Mike Madrid, a longtime G.O.P. consultant focused on Latino voters, said Ms. Harris’s pledge to sign the border security bill, which did not include protections for undocumented immigrants already in the United States, and the security-focused message of her new television ad reflected wider changes among Democrats.

Since the Obama years, Democrats had sought to fuse efforts to increase border security with calls to establish permanent paths to legal residency and citizenship for the roughly 10 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, many of whom have lived in the country for years, holding jobs, paying taxes and starting families.

But the Latino electorate, the fastest-growing slice of the voter bloc, now tends to be third- and fourth-generation voters more removed from the immigration experience, Mr. Madrid said.

“This doesn’t mean you have to go all Donald Trump on immigration,” he said. “It means you have to lead with border security and then weave in the elements of immigration reform later.”
