Re: Bob Marley Nine Mile Tour from Montego Bay

This excursion was fabulous! Our driver was Ryan who was very informative and interactive. When we got to Nine Miles Barky did our tour, he was funny and informative.

I never realized that Bob Marley died so young and learnt a lot about his music and childhood days.

Thanks a lot Dwight

Dwight – we had the best time ever!! Uton was the best driver ever! He was so patient with my family when we stopped and offered us opportunities to get out and see the sights in Jamaica. He always answered our questions and was exceptional. I have no complaints whatsoever.

The drive up to 9 Mile and back was great. Uton was gracious enough to stop with us and have lunch on the way back. We all were so thankful for him and we felt safe at all times. There were no worries from anyone in my family. Also, when we got to 9 Mile, he dropped us off right at the steps where you go up to the Bob Marley museum and mausoleum.

Again, if I could give you 10 stars out of 5, I would. Excellent experience and let’s please stay in touch. We’ll be coming back soon!! Also, I almost forgot, thank you for making the deposit and financial transactions so much easier. I appreciate that!!

Thanks again!!

Hello Dwight,

Many thanks to you and your team for your professionalism and efforts to show us a wonderful time while visiting Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Our driver, Kevin is the BEST! He was attentive, informative and the utmost professional. We felt safe when riding with him and were very happy that he went out of his way to advise us when we had questions about anything. I would definitely recommend Kevin to anyone who is using your services. We never had reason to complain about anything during our two tours with him – Bob Marley 9 Mile on the 1st day, and Dunn’s River Falls on the 2nd day. Each day we were greeted with a warm smile, treated with utmost respect and returned safely to our resort.

Overall, I was very impressed with Karandas tours. Your vehicles were clean, pickup was always prompt and customer service was 100%. Karandas is definitely a 5-star operation!

Thank you for helping to make this a memorable vacation for me and my friends. Until we meet again in Jamaica I will will be referring everyone I know to Karandas Tours ?

Best regards, ~ Mona

Hi again Dwight,

This tour was awesome. The drive was torturous. Awful roads. But nothing you can do about that. We have been recommending this tour to anyone who will listen to us.

Darn it was fun with a little help from a Bob Marley”. 🙂 Our driver was great too.

Everything was wonderful. We really appreciate how friendly, knowledgeable and patient our driver (I believe Donald was his name?) was. Would highly recommend Karandas Tours.

Thanks again. Best wishes for a happy and prosperous 2018.

Good evening, Dwight

I just wanted to thank you for sending my group a superb driver/guide. He was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and took his time with us. We didn’t expect this type of service! Even though we missed a day in JA, being escorted with Robert was well worth the wait.

We are deeply saddened to leave tomorrow, but its back to reality for us! Until next….take care and thanks once again!

' src=

Robi was awesome! He was very informative, patient and polite. Please let him know that I really appreciated him showing us around and ensuring we had a true Jamaican experience! It won’t be forgotten!

I’ll make sure to tell my friends about your company when they visit. Thanks again!!

A very special thank you to, and acknowledgment for our guide and driver Robi. He was excellent! Our first trip to the beautiful country of Jamaica and our first time away from our resort, we were so happy to have had Robi. He was very protective, informative and helpful in every way. My husband, daughter and I, learned so much and saw so many interesting things on our tour. We enjoyed the journey as much or more than the actual tour.

Thanks again

First I want to say I had a great time. The Bob Marley Mausoleum is another review .I was one of three people to go to Nine Mile on Dec.09 2014 from the Royal Decamoron Now about the tour. Robbie our driver was right on time and met us in the resort lobby. He was very easy to understand and that made everything a lot more enjoyable. Our car was very clean and seemed quite new. On our ride there Robbie explained why he liked to go early in the day, to beat the tour buses thus having a more personal tour at Nine Mile. He was right on. By the time we were finished it started getting crowded. He was a great driver on those twisty , narrow roads and new so much about the sights we passed along the way. He was very protective of us and I felt safe while on the tour. Overall I would say the car was excellent, the timing was excellent and the tour guide went above and beyond expectations. I will recommend your services . Thanks

' src=

The tour was amazing and Dexter was really awesome. He made sure that we were taken care of and looked out to make sure we weren’t taken advantage of. You have a great team on your hands from what I’ve experienced. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely book another tour if/when we come back.

' src=

Well what can i say ….

Stevie the driver was absolutely fab from the minute he collected us until the time he dropped us off. he showed us so many places on the way and spoke all the way , we asked many questions and he answered them all , he drove very safely and made so much effort with us. Nine miles tour was so good , the guides at the tour were fab too and has so much knowledge.

Please pass our comments to Steve . he was a lovely guy.

Dear Dwight.

Thanks for your help with the excursion myself and my family did in Jamaica We had a wonderful time and your tour company is amazing and where a great help.

I would also like to let you know you have a very professional member of staff who is Robbie He made our trip the most enjoyable, he is very knowledgeable and told us a lot about Jamaica he is a credit to your company and you should be proud to have such a member Of staff. Once again I would like to thank you and especially Robbie for the great times we had. I’ve also been telling family and friends when going to Jamaica to use your fine company.

I just wanted to email you to say that my group made it home safely. On behalf of my entire group, I want to extend our most sincere appreciation for such a memorable stay in Jamaica. Our driver/guide, Uton, was very punctual, knowledgeable and calming, and arrived in a clean, modern air-conditioned mini van to for pickup each day. The tour that your company organized were most satisfying for our diverse group that ranged in ages from 28 to 67 years old.

Thank you also for being so accommodating by arranging for my group of five, which flew into Jamaica on Tuesday to meet up with our family of six that was arriving by cruise ship on Thursday. It was my uncle’s 50th birthday celebration and he was thoroughly surprised and touched to see all of us in Jamaica just for him. The Bob Marley Nine Miles tour capture many of the highlights of Montego Bay and surrounding towns. The driver, Uton, really made the journey there a fun-filled adventure, and we laughed and joked the entire way. And we really appreciate having Uton as our local driver/guide over our four-day stay, as his perspective and insight were truly valued by all. There were many stops to just take in the scenery and for pictures; and for a group of our size no one ever felt rushed.

Re: Bob Marley Nine Mile Tour from Montego Bay

Aug 2, 2021

Thank for the great time today. Our driver today was amazing!!! Very patient and took good care of us. We would like to request him for our catamaran tour on Wednesday.

I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful experience we had with RaShane. When I tell you I was with some very hard to please ladies I mean it and they were extremely happy with the service provided by your company. I am sure you have seven customers for life. We are already talking about the next trip!

We felt so safe and comfortable with RaShane. We were so impressed with his knowledge of the island and his willingness to be so open with all of us. When he came back the second day he picked fresh flowers that were all over the bus just for us. When we stopped he didn’t leave us alone in the bus he took us with him to ensure our safety. And before we went into a place to eat he checked it out to make sure it was a good place to eat. He also made sure we didn’t get ripped off at the souvenir shop. Can’t tell you how much we appreciate it!

In my opinion there isn’t another tour company in Jamaica!!

The 11 best things to do in Jamaica

J amaica may be synonymous with white sand and super-sized resorts, but there’s so much more to explore beyond the beaches and all inclusives. Get to grips with the island’s plantation-era history through the well preserved Great Houses that are dotted along the island’s north coast. If active activites are more your bag, go river rafting, waterfall climbing, horseback riding, scuba diving, snorkelling or scale the exceptionally steep jungled peaks of the Blue Mountains. For a slice of everyday Jamaican life that few visitors manage to experience, head inland to Cockpit Country. In the capital, Kingston, pay your respects to reggae icon, Bob Marley, before bumping and grinding in the dancehalls.

For further Jamaica inspiration, see our guides to the island's  best hotels ,  restaurants ,  nightlife  and  beaches . Use our  insider guide  to plan your trip.

Find things to do by area

Montego bay and northwest coast, ocho rios, port antonio & north coast, kingston, blue mountains & southeast coast, south coast and central highlands, learn about jamaica’s past.

It would be easy to spend all your time in Montego Bay relaxing on a sun-lounger at Doctor’s Cave Beach, but do drag yourself away to spend at least a couple of hours in the National Museum West. This well curated museum explores the history of Jamaica, with a focus on Montego Bay and Western Jamaica, through period objects.

Insider tip:  Don’t miss the separate side room documenting the rise of Rastafarianism, which developed in Jamaica in the 1930s among working-class black people. Bob Marley helped spread the Rastafarian message through his lyrics encapsulating the spirit of the movement.

Splash in glowing bioluminescent waters

Want to see bioluminescence – the magical night-time glow produced by insects and sea creatures? Get yourself to Glistening Waters (also known as Luminous Lagoon), which is within easy reach of both Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. Each night, boats take tourists on a ride around the lagoon, pausing to allow passengers to jump in and swim through the mystical waters.

Insider tip: The phenomenon takes place at night so, for the best show, book as late in the evening as you can. And don’t bother to bring your camera/phone – all you’ll get is a black screen. Sure there are ways to take Instagram-worthy pictures of the bioluminescent algae, but only if you’re an expert...

Get an insight into Rastafarianism

Rastafarianism developed in Jamaica in the 1930s among working-class people of colour. From Jamaica, the Rastafari movement spread around the world – thanks in part to the huge popularity of its most famous member, Bob Marley, whose lyrics were full of Rasta doctrine. Learn a little more about the religion over at the Rastafari Indigenous Village: visit an organic vegetable garden, experience live music and then tuck into an Ital (vegan) meal.

Insider’s tip:  Try to catch Irits – a monthly gathering of live music, Ital vegan cuisine, local artisans, healing therapies, African dancing, Kumina, traditional folklore, and more. Reach out to the Rastafari Indigenous Village for timings during your stay.

Check out Noel Coward’s Jamaican abode

In 1948 Noël Coward fell in love with Jamaica and decided to buy his own house, Blue Harbour, but it soon became crowded with his celebrity friends. In need of “valuable” peace, Coward purchased a hideaway retreat for US$150 and named the property 'Firefly', after the glowing creatures that also called the property home at night. Knowledgeable tour guides will show you around the estate.

Insider tip: Drink in the most spectacular view of Jamaica's North Coast from the upper studio and snap a selfie beside the pensive statue of Noel Coward that graces the lawn of Firefly.

Take a boat tour on the Blue Lagoon

In the early 80s, Brooke Shields was the most famous teenager on the planet thanks, in part, to the racy 1980 romance Blue Lagoon . Regardless of whether you’re a fan of the film, you’ll want to take a boat trip to the spring-fed Blue Lagoon (known locally as the Blue Hole) – one of the most beautiful places in Jamaica. The water dramatically changes colour throughout the day depending on where the sun is in the sky.

Insider tip: For around $20, local boat operators will take you on a ride which includes stops at Dragon Bay (where the beach bar scenes in Cocktail were filmed) and Monkey Island but be warned: if it’s been raining heavily, the water will have turned cloudy.

Float on a bamboo raft à la Errol Flynn

No visit to Jamaica is complete without rafting the Rio Grande, a beautifully relaxing activity reputedly started as a leisure pursuit by Errol Flynn (aka the George Clooney of his day) during the 1940s. For approximately two hours, you’ll be punted merrily along the Rio Grande, passing former banana plantations, with stops to swim or enjoy a cold Red Stripe beer.

Insider tip: The Rio Grande is the home of rafting in Jamaica but there are two other rivers on which you can raft, if you’re not planning a trip to Port Antonio. Try the Martha Brae and the Great River, both near Montego Bay.

Take a dip in Jamaica’s most famous waterfall

Jamaica’s highest grossing tourist attraction? Take a bow Dunn’s River Falls, almost as well known as reggae. Expect an attractive series of rock pools and cascades that tumble in stages around 600ft down to the sea. Vendors sell jelly shoes at the entrance and guides can accompany you on the climb if necessary. The park also has food stalls, a small craft market and playground.

Insider tip: The falls are undeniably attractive but they are almost always crowded so consider alternatives: Irie Blue Hole (also in Ocho Rios), YS Falls in the south west and Reach Falls, past Port Antonio in the east, are also lovely.

Admire an opulent monument to 19th-century Jamaica

While in Kingston, don’t miss Devon House – an elegant Georgian-style Great House built in 1881 by George Stiebel, Jamaica’s first black millionaire. Admission includes an obligatory guided tour around the house whose showpiece is the 35-foot ballroom with its Broadwood piano, English chandelier and Wedgwood ceiling. The house was declared a national monument by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust in 1990.

Insider tip: The gorgeous tree-shaded lawns of Devon House are a lovely place to read and relax or stroll while enjoying a scoop of ice cream from Devon House I-Scream. It’s the island’s best ice cream, as the long queues attest.

Celebrate Reggae legend Peter Tosh

At last! One of reggae’s most fiery performers finally has a museum of his own. The Peter Tosh Museum tells the story of the outspoken member of The Wailers, who was sidelined by the Jamaican establishment, with respect and sensitivity. You’ll be able to see mementos from Tosh’s life, including his beloved unicycle and Grammy Award, which he won for his final album No Nuclear War.

Insider tip: Tosh is known not just for his music but also his campaign to legalise cannabis. Learn how to roll a Jamaican spliff in an onsite workshop run by “woman of the herbs” Safia Cooper. Call the museum to check when the workshop is running.

Get into the reggae spirit at a legendary Kingston studio

Music aficionados should also seek out another Kingston hotspot – the studio where Bob Marley cut some of his most celebrated tracks including Buffalo Soldier and No Woman, No Cry. Tuff Gong Recording Studios has been owned by the Marley family since 1981 and is run by Bob’s son, Ziggy. The studio is accessible via 45 minute tours that take you into the recording room and the rehearsal space.

Insider tip: It’s best to call in advance rather than just rock up at Tuff Gong as, if someone’s recording, you may not be able to see all sections of the studio – it’s at the discretion of whoever’s recording.

Tip your hat to Bob Marley

Dedicated to the memory of the late Reggae superstar, the Bob Marley Museum is located in a large colonial-era wooden home on Hope Road where Marley recorded many of his hits. The 60-minute tour takes you around Bob’s home, whose rooms remain untouched and filled with personal treasures – from Marley’s favourite clothing to an array of gold and platinum records.

Insider tip: Photography isn’t allowed in the house but you can sing “One Love” and take a few photos with the statue of the singer in the courtyard. There’s also the on-site One Love Cafe should hunger pangs kick in.

Crocodile encounters

Want to get up close and personal with American crocodiles (which are considered to be shyer and safer than the other types of crocodile species)? Sign up for a safari along the south coast’s Black River where an estimated 300 American crocodiles have sought refuge. J. Charles Swaby offers a leisurely four-mile cruise: keep your eyes peeled for grinning crocs (whom the guides know by name), as well as around 100 species of birds including jacanas and egrets.

Insider tip: J. Charles Swaby isn’t the only tour operator and, due to the tame nature of American crocodiles, some outfits will let you swim with them. While no tourists have been gobbled up yet, we strongly advise refraining from doing so.

4. Eat authentic Jerk

Jerk is one of the world’s most iconic foods. Its smoky, spicy flavours are often imitated in fusion dishes all over the world. But authentic Jerk is made with a heady blend of spices and, most importantly, scotch bonnet pepper. The meat is marinated and then smoked slowly over pimento wood to prepare a dish so satisfying, so distinct, you’ll want to have it for lunch, dinner, late night snack, and breakfast the next morning!

And don’t stop at just chicken! Jerk pork, lamb, even vegetables are delicious paired with sides like festival (a sweet fried dough), bammy, roasted breadfruit, or rice and peas.

6. hang out on a bar in the middle of the sea.

Perhaps one of the most unique experiences is Floyd’s Pelican Bar just off Jamaica’s South Coast. The bar is made of driftwood and is mounted on stilts on a sandbar in the Caribbean Sea. What began as a hangout for fisherfolk, quickly gained popularity and now welcomes visitors from all over the world who leave behind mementos from their home countries on the walls of the bar.

A quick boat ride from the dock takes you up to the bar. You’ll be greeted with music, food, and good vibes. Layout on the wooden deck or take a dip in between bites of fresh seafood. It’s an incredible place to watch the sunset with a cold Red Stripe in hand.

If you're staying on the South Coast, you can easily arrange a trip to Floyd's. Accommodations in the area include boutique hotels like the bohemian Jakes Hotel and the ultra romantic Sandals South Coast. 7. Encounter Rastafarian culture

Visit Rastafarian Indigenous Village to personally connect with the philosophy, values, and practices of the Rastafarian way of life. It’s a truly unique cultural experience that can only be had in Jamaica - the birthplace of the movement that gave rise to the religion of Rastafari. In Montego Bay, the Village community members share their organic farming practices and ital cuisine – entirely plant-based, with little to no salt – with their visitors. Learn to make authentic drums and natural soaps by hand, with techniques passed down for generations. There’s live music and dance as the tour ends with a celebration of traditional Rastafari music.

8. Visit one of the world’s most haunted places

Rose Hall Great House and its rolling estate are stunning; boasting historic architecture, preserved interior, and panoramic views out to the Caribbean Sea. But the beautiful structure bears a dark and deadly history. If you’re truly fearless, take the Haunted Night Tour to hear the legend of Annie Palmer, the White Witch of Rose Hall. Palmer was a cruel mistress, who tortured enslaved Africans and committed multiple murders before being killed by her enslaved lover.

You can stay close to the beautiful Rose Hall at beachfront resorts like Jewel Grande, Hilton Rose Hall, and Hyatt Resorts. The ultra-luxe Half Moon is just a stone’s throw away. Book by July 31 to save up to 65% off your hotel using the promo code: JAMGETAWAY .

9. Help save the sea turtles

Get connected to the most endangered sea turtle population in the world.

Sea Turtle Conservation is championed by resorts such as Half Moon, Jakes, and other entities like the Oracabessa Sea Turtle Project. Their programs support sustainable practices and education to improve environmental consciousness for both residents and visitors. At Half Moon, staff are trained and licensed to build new habitats and enforce regulations under the Jamaican laws that protect the species. During the hatching season, which lasts from June until late summer/early fall, visitors can take part in turtle releases to help the tiny hatchlings make it safely from their nests to the water. Releases are held at turtle breeding sites across the islands north and south coasts. The efforts of these groups have resulted in thousands of Hawksbill and Green Turtle hatchlings being safely released over the years. Participating in a turtle release is truly a life-affirming experience as you get up close to these incredible creatures and watch them begin a lifelong journey.

Dunn’s River Falls is one of only a handful of travertine waterfalls, which means the falls are naturally terraced to create what looks like giant stairs interspersed with natural pools fed by spring water – perfect for relaxing.

Climbing the falls takes just about 90 minutes, and since Dunn’s River Falls is one of only a few waterfalls in the world that empties into the sea, visitors can also enjoy the white sands of the Caribbean at the base of the falls. Looking for more adventure? Zipline over the falls for an adrenaline rush and incredible views of this spectacular natural wonder.
