Thomas Hull opened the very first casino in Nevada, El Rancho, but it was crook and mafia strong man Bugsy Siegel that brought the glitz, glamour, and stardom to Las Vegas and built a city on dirt cash.

The Costco Traveler Blog

Vegas on a budget: 5 things to do for free, finding value at costco travel, members tell all: costco member hotel reviews, more about las vegas.

Las Vegas is a world of imagination. Just close your eyes and think about anything, and the odds are in your favor that you'll find it in Las Vegas. I mean, in only four miles of real estate, you can see relics from all parts of the world, like ancient Egypt, modern-day Venice, the streets of Paris, and the New York skyline. If that seems too kitschy, don't worry, there are plenty of elaborate resorts with non-stop gaming and over-the-top entertainment waiting to greet you. Where else in the world does a wonderland like this exist? Nowhere. But. Vegas.

The atmosphere of Las Vegas is something that you almost have to experience to understand fully. It's the ringing of chimes as a guest just hit the jackpot, the thumping bass from the club, the smell of unique and eclectic delicacies waiting to be tasted, and it's people-watching like nothing you've seen before. It's a never-ending source of irony and improbability where you can turn a chip and a chair into a million dollars.

For each visitor, Las Vegas is going to present a unique experience. It's like an equation where you + more = more of you: more chances to explore your personality, more opportunities to experiment with new ideas, and more thrills to discover around every corner. It's that reason alone that the sentiment "what happens here, stays here" is shared by so many visitors.

Before You Go

  • To make it easier to replace your passport if it’s lost or stolen, in addition to your passport, take a photocopy of your passport information page (keeping it separate from your actual passport).
  • Carry only a limited amount of cash, just enough for gratuities and incidental purchases. Major credit cards are widely accepted and can be replaced if lost or stolen.
  • Always lock your hotel room door (including patio and balcony door on any level of the building) and use the peephole before opening the door.
  • Store your valuables (such as cash, credit cards and airline tickets) in the hotel’s in-room safe or front desk safety deposit box.
  • If you must carry valuables on your person, do so in a pouch or money belt concealed under your clothing. Purses and backpacks can be easy targets for thieves.
  • For complete and current safety and security information, including travelers' tips, public announcements, travel advisories and more, please visit the website of the U.S. Department of State at www.travel.state.gov.
  • December through February: 60° to 66° (Winter)
  • March through May: 72° to 90° (Spring)
  • June through August: 102° to 104° (Summer)
  • September through November: 96° to 70° (Autumn)

The Vegas climate's bark is worse than its bite. Sure, summer highs hover around 100°F, but with no humidity and ever-present air-conditioning, you'll be comfortable as long as you have water on hand. Even the warmer months (June-September) are entirely bearable if you hydrate. Luckily, with 300 days of sunshine a year, the chances of a rain-out are slim. On the other hand, nights can be chilly between late fall and early spring, so bring a sweater or windbreaker for your evening strolls beneath the neon-bathed skies. Las Vegas doesn't have a high or low season by the standard definition, but you'll find it the least crowded between November and January. Hotels are at their fullest July through October. Specific events—New Year's Eve, spring break, major conventions, sporting events—draw big crowds, so plan accordingly.

You can buy standard original tickets for Eagles' 2024 concert tour on Ticketmaster . However, demand for the band's Las Vegas residency is high, so standard original tickets are limited. For many dates, the only original tickets still remaining are Official Platinum or VIP passes.

Tickets to Eagles' 2024 Sphere residency can also be purchased via verified resale ticket vendors such as StubHub and Vivid Seats . You may find better luck with seating variety and options on these sites.

It's also important to note that the official presale for original tickets to Eagles' December 6–14, 2024 performances has not begun yet. The artist presale begins at 10 a.m. PT on Tuesday, July 9, followed by the public sale on Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m. PT.

Compared to their past tours, tickets to see Eagles' 2024 concerts are expensive due to their Sphere location. While the least expensive standard original ticket prices started at $175 during the presale, the remaining tickets are generally much more expensive. Currently, the cheapest original tickets to Eagles' Sphere residency on Ticketmaster start at $304 for the band's October 19 through November 9 performances.

When the presale for Eagles' December 6–14, 2024 shows goes live, standard original tickets will be more feasible. According to Seated , the starting price for standard original tickets will be $175, $225, $325, and $425 for the four different seating areas at Sphere.

Resale tickets are generally comparable to or less expensive than original tickets for Eagles' 2024 concert tour. The tickets with the lowest cost on StubHub range from $302 for their September 27 show to $378 for the band's October 12 concert. Meanwhile, the least expensive Eagles 2024 tickets on Vivid Seats begin from $264 for their November 8 concert to $343 for the group's show on September 21.

A VIP package is also available for Eagles' 2024 Las Vegas residency. The VIP Experience & Hotel Package starts at $1,451 per person, which includes premium seats at Sphere, a two-night stay at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, a VIP fan experience, and more. The Experience & Hotel Package also starts at $1,051 per person, offering reserved seats at Sphere, a two-night stay at The Venetian Resort, and Eagles souvenirs. Check out more details on Vibee .

Who is opening for Eagles' tour?

Eagles does not have an opening act for their 2024 concert dates. At Sphere, when the lights go down and showtime starts, current band members Don Henley, Vince Gill, Timothy B. Schmit, Deacon Frey, and Joe Walsh will be the ones who come on stage and perform.

So far, Eagles have no international tour dates booked for the rest of 2024. Their only confirmed shows are at Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it's unclear if they'll add any additional dates elsewhere before the new year.

Eagles' The Long Goodbye Tour came to a close recently in Europe this year, so the band has already played across the globe in 2024 before their Sphere residency. Their European dates included five shows in Manchester, England, and two in the Netherlands, which ended on June 15, 2024.

President Biden has busy week ahead on Las Vegas visit

President Joe Biden will give speeches at 115th NAACP National Convention and UnidosUS Annual Conference, among other appearances in Las Vegas this week.

President Joe Biden addresses the nation from the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, ...

President Joe Biden is sticking to his planned schedule of events in Las Vegas this week, making four appearances on Tuesday and Wednesday.

His Vegas visit was to have been the second stop on a campaign swing out West, but Biden rescheduled the Texas portion of his trip after an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump occurred during a Saturday rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The gunman who fired at Trump also shot and killed one rally attendee and critically injured two others, officials said.

On Tuesday afternoon, Biden is scheduled to deliver a speech during the 115 th NAACP National Convention at Mandalay Bay. Later that day, he’s participating in an economic summit with Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev.

Biden is also the keynote speaker at the UnidosUS Annual Conference in the MGM Grand Conference Center Wednesday afternoon. Following his remarks, he will attend a campaign community event, according to a White House press release.

Nevada is one of a handful of swing states that will be pivotal in deciding the November election. Biden won the state in the 2020 election, but Trump currently leads in the polls.

Following the attack Saturday, the Biden administration paused all political messaging and worked to pull down its television ads. Later, Biden condemned the shooting saying, “There’s no place in America for this type of violence.”

Biden will leave Las Vegas after his campaign event on Wednesday, but his schedule for the end of this week has not yet been released by the White House.

2024 Open Championship odds, predictions: PGA Tour picks and best bets for season's final major from golf expert

Hero Image

The 2024 Open Championship begins on Thursday at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau claimed the year's first three majors and are near the top of the 2024 Open Championship odds board. Scheffler is the 4-1 favorite, followed by 2014 British Open champion Rory McIlroy (8-1). Next in line is DeChambeau and Ludvig Aberg, both at 9-1.

Before you consider any 2024 Open Championship picks, you NEED to check out the PGA Tour predictions and best bets from golf insider Patrick McDonald.

McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in 2022 after stops at NBC Sports and RyderCup.com. Covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and more. Featured weekly on the Early Wedge, he has given out numerous winners already in 2024, including Jake Knapp (50-1) at the Mexico Open and Xander Schauffele at the PGA Championship ! Anyone who has followed him is WAY UP!

Now, McDonald has been digging into the 2024 Open Championship field to find the best value and just locked in his best bets and favorites to avoid.

We can tell you McDonald is fading Collin Morikawa, who is priced too short to back in such a deep and talented field . On the other hand, McDonald loves the value on Brooks Koepka . "At both the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open, Koepka was sensational from tee to green, only to be let down by the putter. With his usual gamer back in the bag, the American should find some solace on the slower surfaces at Royal Troon," McDonald told SportsLine.

In addition, McDonald is jumping on a HUGE underdog who's priced at almost 100-1 ! McDonald says this golfer " continues to drive the ball as well as ever and has gained strokes in three straight tournaments for the first time all season !" You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before locking in any 2024 Open Championship picks of your own!

So which 2024  Open Championship  players should you target or avoid, and which golfer could bring a MASSIVE payday of almost 100-1? ... Join SportsLine right now to see Patrick McDonald's top picks for the 2024 Open Championship, all from the expert who has given out numerous winners already this year, including Xander Schauffele at the PGA Championship !
