The monorail is possibly the easiest and most popular form of transport for traveling along the Las Vegas strip, with the monorail arriving roughly every 6 minutes and stopping at 7 stations up and down the strip.

Otherwise, if you're staying at a hotel located on the strip, you can easily walk to various destinations. Uber rides are also easily accessible, as well as organizing private transfers via limousines and cars.

You’ll start with a visit to  Red Rock Canyon , then take a Navajo-led Jeep tour through Monument Valley, followed by a trip to  Horseshoe Bend . The last day includes a visit to the beautiful  Antelope Canyon , followed by a stop at the  Valley of Fire  before returning to Vegas.

To round up the best things to do in Las Vegas, we enlisted experts: the chef concierge for Wynn Las Vegas, Angelica Miozza; entertainer Colin Cahill, who plays Blue Jackson in Spiegelworld’s Atomic Saloon Show at the Venetian; and long-time resident and senior VP at Kirvin Doak Communications, Natalie Mounier.

From driving race cars to visiting a tranquil aquarium, this is what they recommend.

• Travel to Venice at the Venetian Resort with a gondola ride followed by gelato.
• Take a tranquil walk among more than 2,000 sea creatures in an underwater glass tunnel at the Shark Reef Aquarium.

Take a walk under the sea.

One of the most fun things to do in Las Vegas for kids is visiting the Shark Reef Aquarium , where you can walk through an underwater glass tunnel as more than 2,000 sea creatures swim around you. The Mandalay Bay attraction includes gracefully floating jellyfish, friendly sea turtles, and sharks gliding through a shipwreck. For an additional fee, you can book an early-entry guided tour if you'd like to feed a stingray.

Drive a Ferrari, Lamborghini, or go-cart.

At Exotics Racing, driving is extremely exciting, whether you choose a supercar, go-kart, or off-road experience. Steer an exotic car around a racetrack for the thrill of it, or have fun racing a go-kart on an outdoor track. You can even choose a specially built Baja race truck for the ultimate off-road experience.

Go to outer space or on safari at Illuminarium.

At Illuminarium Las Vegas , 4K laser projection, 3D audio, and special effects create immersive experiences not to be missed. Travel to outer space via images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope or on safari in the African savanna, where incredible animals roam. Go skydiving indoors.

Travelers can experience skydiving without the airplane at the exhilarating Vegas Indoor Skydiving attraction. You can fly on your own (even kids can try it, so long as they're 40 pounds or more), or get a group of six to 10 friends or family members for a 20-minute party with private training and your own block of time in the wind tunnel. 

Sway to the music at the Bellagio fountain show.

This expansive Bellagio fountain show occurs multiple times a day, every day of the year; check the schedule to make sure you catch it. The romantic spectacle is free, and onlookers line the sidewalk, mesmerized by the beauty of the dancing fountains and the music that plays along with the show.

Observe the Las Vegas Strip from above.

To enjoy panoramic views of the city, hop on High Roller , the largest observation wheel in North America. You’ll ride in one of 28 spacious air-conditioned cabins for 30 minutes, at one point reaching 550 feet above the Strip. Cabins hold up to 40 guests, so grab some friends (and a cocktail or two) for the ride. Note that glass and coolers are not permitted.

Play around at Topgolf.

Whether or not you're an avid golfer, this is a fun venue to spend a couple of hours or more. Topgolf Las Vegas offers climate-controlled hitting bays, plus music, HDTVs, and a pool (must be at least 21) with cabanas. This is a favorite spot for the Wynn’s Angelica Miozza, who comes to test her golf swing. There's also a sports bar, restaurant, and complimentary golf clubs.

Stroll through an indoor garden.

Visitors are dazzled by the intricate designs, colors, and beauty of the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens . Each season, the 14,000-square-foot garden is transformed with floral displays, living plants, and water features. In addition to unique designs for each season, a special Lunar New Year garden is created each year.

Catch the light show on Fremont Street downtown.

The largest video canopy in the world is suspended 90 feet above Fremont Street for this dazzling free light show with concert-quality sound. The daily show begins every hour on the hour, between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. While you’re in the downtown area, check out the SlotZilla zip line, which has an option to fly over the street like a superhero, landing at the historic Golden Gate Hotel and Casino.

Tee off at the only golf course on the Las Vegas Strip.

Enjoy the gorgeous surroundings of the 18-hole championship course at the Wynn Golf Club . The lush landscape was designed by legendary architect Tom Fazio, who partnered with his son Logan to revisit and enhance his original work. Mature trees, lakes, and streams add both beauty and challenge to the course.

Take a Connoisseur Series class at Wynn Las Vegas.

“For those who love immersive experiences, I recommend attending one of Wynn’s master classes , which provide an intimate experience with the resort’s world-class chefs and industry experts,” Miozza told T+L. “Some of my favorites include learning how to bake baguettes alongside our master baker, filling dumplings with a master dim sum chef, and creating remarkable floral arrangements with the head of horticulture.”

Go hiking in Red Rock Canyon.

A 13-mile scenic drive from the Strip leads to this park's sandstone hills and canyons, where visitors can explore the area's natural and cultural history. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers miles of hiking trails, and is a great place for rock climbing, mountain biking, picnicking, and horseback riding, all surrounded by gorgeous scenery.

Depending on the season, visitors can see 2023 WNBA champions the Las Vegas Aces , the Las Vegas Lights FC soccer team, Las Vegas Raiders football, or the Vegas Golden Knights NHL team. “In recent years, Las Vegas has been building its credibility as a sports destination,” Miozza says.

Get a Las Vegas history lesson at the Mob Museum.

The Mob Museum is located downtown in the city’s former federal courthouse. Its interactive exhibits highlight notorious gangsters like Al Capone and Bugsy Siegel and famous FBI agents, including J. Edgar Hoover and Eliot Ness. After your mob history lesson, visit the onsite Prohibition-era-styled speakeasy for a cocktail.

Experience Vegas late into the night.

They say New York is the city that never sleeps, but Vegas doesn't seem to, either. Nightclubs and cocktail lounges abound, and there's always a themed party or DJ set to experience. Head to Caesars Palace to see world-class talent like Adele and the newest resident headliner, Garth Brooks. And if you've got kids in tow, they can see a show , too.

Show off your skills at the Pinball Hall of Fame.

This museum houses the world’s largest pinball machine collection, with vintage machines from the 1960s, '70s, '80s, and beyond. The machines are all restored to like-new condition and are available for visitors to enjoy; at 25 or 50 cents a play, it's a really inexpensive way to have fun in Las Vegas.

Watch the free show at the Lake of Dreams.

“Staged outdoors with open-air patios for viewing, the Wynn Lake of Dreams show is something guests or visitors to Las Vegas may not know about,” Miozza told T + L. “The complimentary multimedia experience blends colorful puppetry, an immersive soundtrack, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting.” The show runs nightly every 30 minutes, starting at dusk.

Snap a few photos for the 'gram.

About 20 miles south of the Strip is Seven Magic Mountains , a group of neon-colored totems created by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone, and a very popular site with shutterbugs. Next, head downtown for a self-guided mural tour , or visit the Museum of Selfies at the LINQ Promenade. And, of course, there’s the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign — a must for every visitor.

Dance to live music.

Lose yourself in an immersive experience at The Sphere.

“Vegas is all about revamping the old and building the new,” Cahill says, specifically pointing to the Sphere , a 17,500-seat structure for concerts and sporting events. With a wraparound LED display and spatial audio system, the venue provides an immersive experience that utilizes visual effects, movement sensations, intense lighting, and even scent and wind simulations.

Visit the Las Vegas Arts District.

When Cahill isn’t playing Blue Jackson in the Atomic Saloon, he enjoys spending time in the Las Vegas Arts District . Located about a mile from downtown and the Fremont Street Experience, this area features shops, restaurants, bars, coffee houses, galleries, theater, live performances, and First Friday events.

Get a bird's-eye view on a FlyOver ride.

“My family and I love FlyOver ,” Natalie Mounier says. “It makes you feel like you’re flying over the most iconic places in the U.S., Canada, and Iceland; you’re sitting inside a spherical screen, surrounded by the most amazing views. As the film dips and turns throughout the locales, the seat moves with you, like you’re flying via helicopter. There are special effects, too — when you fly through a cloud, you feel a light mist on your face.”

Go on another adrenaline-pumping thrill ride.

Head to the Stratosphere for the Big Shot ride and the X-Scream rollercoaster, which dangles you above the Las Vegas Strip. Or, ride the Big Apple Coaster at New York New York — it speeds up to 67 miles per hour.

Shop 'til you drop in a classic Vegas shopping center.

Instead of losing money in the casino, why not exchange money for goods? Great places to do the latter include the Forum Shops in Caesars Palace, the Cosmopolitan Shops , designer shops at the Encore , MGM Grand , and more. At the Downtown Container Park, you can shop , snack , and catch a free concert in one spot.

Take a wellness break.

The Strip often surprises first-time Las Vegas visitors — it's not as easy to walk from one end to the other as you'd think. So, if you're trying to get from point A to point B here, hop on the Las Vegas Monorail . Trains run every four to eight minutes and serve seven stations like Harra's and Caesar's Palace, making it the most convenient mode of transportation on the Strip.

Try your luck in a Vegas casino.

There are more than 100 casinos in Las Vegas , so no trip here would be complete without wandering through one of these dens of smoke, drinks, and slot machines. Tours are approximately 75 minutes in length and include over one (1) mile of walking. Comfortable walking shoes are encouraged. No heels or metal bottom shoes.

PSL seat visits are not available before, after or during the tour. Stadium tours follow a predetermined route that is timed to maximize the experience of all guests.

Tickets are available online approximately five (5) weeks in advance. Capacity is limited. Tickets should be purchased online in advance.

Tickets are required for all guests, age two and older. Guests of all ages may attend the Overtime Experience

Those younger than two years of age are free of charge. Please note that strollers/wagons are not allowed on the tour.

Tours are customized daily based on availability of tour features. This is no guarantee that all stops or features will be included on every tour. If a Stadium event is scheduled, public tours will not be available. All tour dates, times, and tour stops are subject to change without notice due to events at Allegiant Stadium. All sales are final.

What will I get to see on the tour?

What are the hours of operation?

Where is tour guest parking?

Tour guests are encouraged to park for free in LOT C at the North end of Allegiant Stadium at the corner of Allegiant Stadium Way and Al Davis Way.   Please CLICK HERE for more parking information.

Do I need to pay to park at Allegiant Stadium?

Parking is free on non-game days.

Where should I enter?

Tour guests should enter at the north security gate entry point.  If there is a line, please notify security that you are a tour guest to reduce your wait time. Please have your mobile tickets ready.

At what age are children required to have an admission ticket?

Children age two (24 months) and older require a ticket; those younger than two years of age are admitted for free and do not require a ticket. Guests of all ages may attend the Overtime Experience

How many tickets can I purchase?

There are no limits to the number of tickets you may purchase. Groups exceeding 12 may be split into multiple tours.

Do I need to purchase an Overtime Experience ticket for my child?

Yes, all guests age two and older require an Overtime Experience ticket for admission into the experience.

Is photography/videography allowed on the tour?

Photography is permitted on the tour except in areas explicitly forbidden by your Tour Host. Photography is not permitted for any commercial use. Videography and other recordings are not permitted at any time while on tour.

Are there any purse or bag restrictions?

Purses, small bags, and backpacks are allowed on the tour but may be subject to x-ray and/or search prior to admission.  Oversized bags or luggage will not be permitted on the tour.

Can I bring my luggage?

No, luggage is not permitted anywhere at Allegiant Stadium. Please leave all luggage in your vehicle or at your hotel. Allegiant Stadium, the Raiders, and its affiliates are not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items.

How long is a tour?

Are strollers permitted?

How does Allegiant Stadium address unruly or disruptive guests?

The tour at Allegiant Stadium is a shared experience. Any and all guests participating in unruly, disruptive, or disrespectful behavior to other guests or Allegiant Stadium Team Members will be asked to leave without a refund.

Are pets/animals allowed on the tour?

Pets and other animals are not allowed on the tour, except for service animals to aid guests with disabilities.

May I bring my own food and beverage on the tour?

All outside food and beverage are prohibited from entering Allegiant Stadium.

Allegiant Stadium is a cashless venue. Allegiant Stadium accepts all major credit cards, and cash-to-card kiosks are placed around the stadium for those who only bring cash to Allegiant Stadium. Personal or traveler's checks are not accepted.

Do you offer tours in different languages?

Allegiant Stadium tours are currently only available in English.

Are the tours ADA accessible?

Yes, tours are accessible for patrons with disabilities. If you have a disability requiring any type of accommodation, we ask that you email us at least 72 hours advance at [email protected] to ensure the requested assistance can be provided. Wheelchairs are available, free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that Allegiant Stadium staff cannot provide special wheelchair assistance on-site. Will there be loud noises and flashing lights?

Yes. Allegiant Stadium tour guests will be subject to loud noises, dark areas and flashing lights.

What if I arrive after my scheduled tour time?

Allegiant Stadium tours begin promptly as scheduled. We ask that you and your party arrive 20 minutes prior to your scheduled reservation to allow time for parking, health screening, security, and check-in. Please be prepared to present your mobile tour ticket(s) upon check-in. To ensure the quality of the experience for all guests, late arrivals will not be admitted and will not be rescheduled or receive a refund.

Can I re-schedule or cancel my tour?

All sales are final.

Where is tour guest ADA parking?

Tour guests are encouraged to park for free in LOT C at the North end of Allegiant Stadium at the corner of Allegiant Stadium Way and Al Davis Way.  Accessible and handicap parking is available in LOT C as depicted.  If any guest needs to be dropped off at the entrance, they may do so from Al Davis Way outside of the Allegiant Stadium Tour Check-In.   Please CLICK HERE for a depiction of these parking areas.

Wheelchairs are available, free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that Allegiant Stadium staff cannot provide special wheelchair assistance on-site. Guests with disabilities who are unable to independently operate their wheelchair should be accompanied by someone able to assist them during the tour.  If you know of your wheelchair need in advance, we ask that you email us at least 72 hours advance at [email protected] in order to reserve use of a wheelchair.

The Vegas climate's bark is worse than its bite. Sure, summer highs hover around 100°F, but with no humidity and ever-present air-conditioning, you'll be comfortable as long as you have water on hand. Even the warmer months (June-September) are entirely bearable if you hydrate. Luckily, with 300 days of sunshine a year, the chances of a rain-out are slim. On the other hand, nights can be chilly between late fall and early spring, so bring a sweater or windbreaker for your evening strolls beneath the neon-bathed skies. Las Vegas doesn't have a high or low season by the standard definition, but you'll find it the least crowded between November and January. Hotels are at their fullest July through October. Specific events—New Year's Eve, spring break, major conventions, sporting events—draw big crowds, so plan accordingly.

A must-see lookout point at the West Rim is Guano Point, from which you can trek to Highpoint Hike and get a view of the Colorado River.

This bus tour – which takes around four hours to get to the South Rim's Mather Point from Vegas – gives visitors the opportunity to walk along Bright Angel Trail; it leads to Bright Angel Lodge, located in the Village Historic District.

My wife and I spent over $4,300 to visit Las Vegas for 5 days. Here's how we spent it and what was worth it.

• My wife and I spent five days in Las Vegas — here's what was worth the money and not.
• Our room at Virgin Hotel was convenient, and we loved "Absinthe" at Caesars Palace.
• We weren't fully blown away by Bazaar Meat by José Andrés but loved LPM in The Cosmopolitan.

In 2010, my wife and I met in Las Vegas at The Little White Wedding Chapel parking lot. Fourteen years later, we returned for five days to renew our vows and enjoy all the things the city has to offer.

In those intervening years, Vegas has not lost any of that magic I've felt as a UK tourist. The Strip has gotten bigger, and the prices have gone up, too.

There's no denying that what was once a cheap trip is now a much more expensive one, but it's easy to splurge when you're celebrating. Fortunately, we used points for our flights so we saved there.

Here's a breakdown of some of our spending, including what was and was not worth the money.

We stayed off of the Strip to save money, but we did upgrade our room

I love saving money by staying off of the Strip and adore the Virgin Hotel.

It has huge rooms — sorry, "chambers" — and a fairly quiet casino that makes the hotel seem relaxing after a busy day.

On this trip, we stayed at the Ruby Tower grand-chamber corner suite. We loved the split-usage room design, huge bath, Strip and Sphere views, and cacti throughout the hotel.

The bed was also so good that, after one night's sleep, I was Googling to see if I could buy one to bring home.

We paid just under $1,500 for our stay, including the $45-a-day resort fee (which most Vegas hotels charge). I thought this was excellent value compared to many other suites in hotels on the Strip, which started at $600 a night.

Although we weren't on the Strip, which would've been convenient, our Uber costs still weren't high enough to make this less of a bargain.

We spent a lot of money on food and drinks —and LPM was our favorite

LPM in The Cosmopolitan is less than a year old, but it is currently the best-kept dining secret in Vegas .

Everything about our dinner was exceptional, from top-notch service to delicious Mediterranean-inspired food to buzzy, beautiful vibes in the dining room.

I still dream of the escargot and sea bass with lemon and chili confit. Oh, and the burrata, cocktail list, baguettes … pretty much everything on the menu.

We paid $346 for three courses and a cocktail each. We ate a lot of good food on our trip but LPM was the best of the best.

We also got drinks at the Pinky Ring cocktail lounge

We also stopped by Bruno Mars' Pinky Ring at the Bellagio, a one-of-a-kind cocktail lounge that recently opened in the middle of the casino floor.

We walked past the singer's Grammys on the way into this small womb-like space. It had vintage vibes and a splendid cocktail menu, too.

We got to see his longtime band, The Hooligans, perform, which made us feel like this was the most exclusive place to be that night.

We paid $56 for two cocktails, plus tax and tip.

Bazaar Meat was our most expensive meal, but it let us down

We heard good things about Bazaar Meat by José Andrés at the Sahara from Vegas locals.

So, when we visited, we chose the most expensive tasting menu .

We were served caviar, cotton-candy foie gras, liquid sphere olives, three different types of tartare, Washugyu rib eye, and other dishes. We had A5 Japanese wagyu, which was cooked tableside and came with its own certificate.

We paid $760 for two of us, and the restaurant comped us a bottle of Champagne as we were celebrating.

Although the food was fantastic, I felt it was overpriced and the room too big to experience a menu of this quality. It lacked the personal touches you would normally get for spending this much money on a tasting menu in what would traditionally be a smaller restaurant.

Lastly, we had a few excellent meals at the Cosmo

Not a day went by when we didn't eat something at the Cosmopolitan. It nailed its food offerings.

We paid $36 at Egg Slut for two breakfast sandwiches, $109 at Momofuku for lunch, and $181 at China Poblano for dinner.

In terms of activities, we did a vow renewal and spent time at a spa

Of course, the reason for our trip: Renewing our vows at The Little White Wedding Chapel.

The chapel is a true Vegas landmark that even some celebrities enjoy. It was a bit cheesy, but perhaps that's our fault for choosing a package with a pink Cadillac. We spent about $250 total for our package.

The two of us also went to Awana Spa at Resorts World, one of the few spas on the Strip with co-ed spaces.

We paid $280 for two, and the Fountain of Youth pass gave us three hours of access to spa facilities such as rain walks, saunas, and experience rooms.

I got us tickets to my favorite magic show on the Strip and a burlesque comedy performance

We saw Piff the Magic Dragon at The Flamingo, my favorite magic show on the Strip.

It's hilarious, with mind-blowing magic, a grumpy dude, and a chihuahua in a dragon suit in a classic Vegas showroom.

Tickets started at $52, but we paid $80 a pop to be closer to the front. Piff even held a free meet-and-greet after the show.

We also caught "Absinthe" at Caesars Palace, which is circus performances, burlesque, and comedy combined.

Performers do wild circus stunts dangerously close to you. It's filthy, sexy, and full of energy. We've seen a lot of shows like it, but this is truly one of the best.

We booked a few days in advance and paid $151 per ticket for standard-view seating.

We made sure to book seats for 'Postcard from Earth' at The Sphere in advance

Watching "Postcard from Earth" at The Sphere — the largest screen in the world — blew experiencing Imax out of the water.

We got to spend an hour exploring the technology and talking to robots in The Sphere before watching Darren Aronofsky's film on the largest screen in the world.

We paid $94 for each ticket and had to book a few weeks out to get the best of the cheaper seats (try to get as central and high as possible).

It's expensive but worth it for the novelty. I wouldn't recommend spending more than the base price, though.

The Neon Museum was one of our cheapest activities

We went to the Neon Museum before sunset and took a 45-minute guided tour. It was brilliant to see Vegas history lit up in front of our eyes, and we took the best photos of our trip here.

We paid $33 each for museum access and the guided tour.

Omega Mart and Liftoff at Area 15 were also one-of-a-kind

Omega Mart is a wild supermarket art exhibition of weirdness that felt all the more nuts because we experienced it while jet lagged. It was unlike anything we've ever seen before.

Outside, we got on the Liftoff ride so we could go about 100 feet in the air and have a drink in the sky.

We paid $49 each for Omega Mart and $15 each for Liftoff.

Overall, we had a great trip

We returned home after five days, full and exhausted. We'd had fun, reconnected, and created memories that will stay with us.

Five days always feel like enough time for us to do what we really want without fully pushing our credit limit.

There's really no place like Las Vegas.

Southern Nevada Building Trades Unions hosts NABTU during Las Vegas tour stop

A press conference was held on Wednesday to highlight America's new infrastructure generation.

Government officials, community partners, union leaders, and workers were in attendance to promote the construction opportunity pipeline.

The goal of the event was to highlight community partnerships to launch critical projects that they say will significantly uplift Southern Nevada communities for generations.

"The work starts here. I say that because what we've working on here is a community benefits agreements. What community benefits agreements are there's a piece to it that allows communities that are underserved to go to work on projects that are being built in their underserved communities," a speaker said.

The Southern Nevada Building Trades Unions is a collaborative organization that represents a diverse coalition of skilled labor unions and building trade professionals.

Their mission is to advocate and promote safety, quality, and training in the construction industry.

Rallying in Las Vegas, Harris Pledges to End Federal Taxes on Tips

Vice President Kamala Harris said on Saturday that she would seek to end federal income taxes on tips if she were elected president, mirroring a policy proposal that former President Donald J. Trump made earlier this year.

The proposal from Ms. Harris — which she announced in Las Vegas, where thousands of casino employees depend on tipped wages — is a priority of Nevada’s influential Culinary Workers Union. Both Ms. Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, recognized the union in their remarks to a packed basketball arena on Saturday night.

“When I am president,” Ms. Harris told the Las Vegas crowd, “we will continue our fight for working families of America, including to raise the minimum wage and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”

The “no tax on tips” pitch has garnered bipartisan support since Mr. Trump first floated it in June , including from Senator Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican, and both of Nevada’s Democratic senators, Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen. Mr. Trump also announced his support for the policy in Las Vegas.

The former president responded immediately to Ms. Harris’s proposal on Saturday night, posting on his social media website, Truth Social, that she had “copied” his own. “This was a TRUMP idea,” he wrote. “She has no ideas, she can only steal them from me.”

The Las Vegas stop was the last public event of a five-city introduction of the Harris-Walz ticket. As with the other rallies, Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz drew a crowd many times larger than any that had shown up for President Biden while he was seeking re-election.

By Saturday, there were signs that some of the Democrats’ good vibes may have an expiration date. The Harris campaign said Mr. Walz “misspoke” when he said he had carried weapons of war “in war” in a video articulating his views on gun control. And Ms. Harris, before her event in Las Vegas, answered several questions from reporters for the first time since becoming the Democratic nominee — a development that took place after pressure from Mr. Trump and his campaign.

But overall, the week’s rollout was widely viewed as a success. Ms. Harris has engendered more enthusiasm than any Democratic nominee since Barack Obama in 2008. The appointment of Mr. Walz as her running mate took place without any significant grumbling from the party — a bit of a surprise after a two-week vice-presidential audition that surfaced ideological divisions in the party, particularly over the war in Gaza.

On Saturday, Mr. Walz urged the crowd at the arena on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas — which the campaign said included more than 12,000 people — not only to vote for the Democratic ticket but also to work to ensure their friends and neighbors did, too.

“I know very clearly that I am preaching to the choir,” Mr. Walz said. “But here’s my words for you: The choir needs to sing. The choir needs to sing.”

During stops in Philadelphia , Wisconsin , Detroit and Arizona , Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz spoke to capacity crowds. By the end of the week, the high points in their stump speeches had become familiar enough to audiences that people in the crowd shouted them along with the candidates. All told, the new running mates drew more than 64,000 attendees to their rallies, according to estimates from the campaign.

“Aren’t they a breath of fresh air?” Representative Susie Lee, Democrat of Nevada, asked attendees in Las Vegas.

Mr. Biden had trailed Mr. Trump badly in Nevada, where inflation is a top concern for many voters. But Ms. Harris has tightened that gap significantly since Mr. Biden dropped out.

On Friday, the vice president secured the backing of the Culinary Workers Union, an endorsement that will likely add to her campaign’s organizing operation and eventual voter turnout.

The culinary union is a 60,000-member organization that represents casino and hotel workers and has been a key part of the coalition that has helped Democrats win in Nevada.

Mariana Swanson, a culinary union member who worked as a restroom attendant at a Las Vegas nightclub where she depended on tips, said Ms. Harris’s announcement came as a “shock,” though a welcome one.

“It’s more money for taking care of your family,” said Ms. Swanson, 43, a Democrat and one of many attendees wearing a red culinary union T-shirt. “It’s more money for paying your bills.”

With her promises to raise the minimum wage and eliminate taxes on tips, Ms. Harris seemed to preview the planned release of her policy platform next week. She had told reporters earlier on Saturday that the platform would focus on the economy and lowering costs for working families.

In addition to rank-and-file Democrats, wealthy donors are also responding to the new ticket. On Sunday, Ms. Harris was scheduled to attend a fund-raiser in San Francisco that drew more than $12 million in contributions, her campaign said.

Ms. Harris’s crowd in Las Vegas would have been larger than it was, but law enforcement officials closed the doors as people fell ill while waiting outside the arena in temperatures that reached 109 degrees. Roughly 4,000 people were in line at that point and had to be turned away, the Harris campaign said.

“Don’t worry,” a hoarse-voiced Mr. Walz promised those who had made it inside. “We’re going to be back a lot.”

Before the rally began, thousands of attendees stood and danced in their seats waving Harris-Walz signs, as disco remixes, hip-hop and Latin pop blared over the speakers and the arena’s lights flashed in multicolored rhythm.

“We’ve got a party up in here,” D-Nice, a D.J. and the event’s M.C., shouted to roars of approval. “Let’s light this place up.”

Kamala Harris emphasizes joy and policy differences at Las Vegas rally

Updated with new crowd size information from the Harris-Walz campaign in Nevada.

LAS VEGAS – In the whirlwind presidential contest, Vice President Kamala Harris staked a different path from President Joe Biden in her first Nevada visit as the Democratic nominee.

Biden had hammered on the view that Donald Trump is an "existential threat" to the nation and exhibited a sense of disgust toward the former president’s behavior. They were dark campaign events, not too dissimilar from Trump’s own rallies that often focus on violent criminals crossing the border to rape and murder Americans.

At the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas before 15,000 boisterous supporters Saturday, Harris emphasized joy, shared values and specific policy differences with Trump. During 30 minutes of remarks, she expressed no anger toward Trump and no disrespect toward his supporters. If the campaign’s tone has a predecessor, it would be Barack Obama’s message of hope and change from 2008.

“We are running this campaign on behalf of all Americans from red states to blue states, from the heartland to the coast, and when elected, we will govern on behalf of all Americans,” Harris said.

Patriotic chants from the crowd of “USA, USA” peppered the rally.

“We are here together because we love our country, and I do believe it is the highest form of patriotism to fight for the ideals of our country,” she said.

Kamala Harris on border security

Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, did not shy away from issues during the rally that Democrats and Republicans often clash over.

The border may be the No. 1 criticism of Republicans against the Biden administration, with Harris attacked as a failed “border czar.”

“We know our immigration system is broken,” Harris said, “and we know what it takes to fix it: comprehensive reform that includes, yes, strong border security and an earned pathway to citizenship.”

She referenced a border security package negotiated by Republican Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma.

“Trump doesn't want to fix this problem,” Harris said. “He talks a big game about border security — he talks a big game about a lot of things — but he does not walk the walk. Earlier this year, we had a chance to pass the toughest bipartisan border security bill in decades, but Donald Trump tanked the bill because he thought it would help him win an election.

“Well, when I am president, I will sign that bill into law.”

Harris-Walz on gun rights

A gun owner and hunter , Walz expressed support for the gun rights contained in the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment but added, “We also believe in commonsense gun violence laws.”

Harris went further.

“We who believe in the freedom to live safe from gun violence will finally pass an assault weapons ban,” she said.

The joy of politics

The Harris-Walz campaign rally — part of a weeklong swing-state tour to build on the momentum of Harris’ move to the top of the Democratic ticket — had the feel of a concert rather than a recitation of political stump speeches.

A DJ got the crowd motivated with a set focused on pop hits that got people to their feet dancing for almost two hours.

This positive vibe also worked its way into Walz’s remarks.

He thanked Harris for reminding “us that this work can be about goodness.”

“It can be about smiling,” he said. “It's tough work, but we can be happy doing it. And Kamala Harris has done something that we will ever be grateful for her: She has brought out the joy in our politics.”

Reno City Councilman Devon Reese, who flew down for the event, echoed those comments.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this in my 50 years,” he said.

“It’s amazing to see people from all walks of life, all ages, all faiths, all ethnic backgrounds and all parts of the state embrace the positive message and campaigning of the Harris-Walz team.”
