15 Best Things to Do in Seminyak (Bali)

Seminyak sits a little way along the coast from the famous Kuta Beach in Bali and provides a welcome alternative to its brasher and more crowded cousin. Seminyak has its own pretty beaches and there is a feeling of more space here as the crowds that descend on Kuta are not as prevalent in Seminyak. As Seminyak has a beach it also has some good surf and you can also rent a board here and ride the waves or just stick to swimming or sunbathing.

One of the main reasons to come to Seminyak is to enjoy not only the beach but also the amazing beach bars and cafes that run along the coastlines and you will find a huge number of choices available which means that you will never go hungry or thirsty here. Many of the restaurants have foreign chefs in residence so if you want to try some fine dining then this is a great place to do it.

People also flock to Seminyak for its nightlife although it is a little tamer than neighboring Kuta. Whereas Kuta has a number of nightclubs, Seminyak is more focused on beach clubs where you can sip a drink with your feet in the sand, although there are also some clubs to be found in the area. As if all that wasn’t enough, Seminyak is also known for its shopping with some of the biggest names in Bali choosing to open up shop here. As such, you can walk along the main shopping arteries of this part of the island and shop until you drop.

Let’s explore the best things to do in Seminyak :

1. Spend the day by the pool at Potato Head Beach Club

Potato Head Beach Cub

Potato Head Beach Club is one of the premium venues in Seminyak and has a large infinity pool and beach front covered in bean bags and sun loungers.

It is the perfect place to come if you fancy a lazy day in Seminyak and you can also rent one of the cabanas here and stay all day sipping on cocktails and enjoying some of the poolside cuisine.

If you want a cabana you will have to get here early as many of them are snapped up by 10 am, and some of the signature nibbles here include tapas and huge cheese and meat platters.

There are also three restaurants here if you want some formal dining in the form of the Potato Head Bistro, Lilin which serves Asian fusion food, and Tapping Shoes which is a French take on upscale dining.

2. Have a cup of coffee at Revolver

Revolver

Locals and visitors alike will tell you that the best coffee in Seminyak is to be found at Revolver.

The small coffee shop sits at the end of an alleyway but it is worth seeking it out to sample the delicious beans here.

You will find a wide range of different coffee based drinks as well as a number of bean blends and the place is not short on character, particularly as it is styled to resemble a saloon in the days of the Wild West.

They also serve delicious food so try and time your visit to coincide with breakfast or lunch.

3. Try scuba diving

Adventure Scuba Diving Bali

If you are in Seminyak and want to get PADI certified then consider a trip to Adventure Scuba Diving Bali.

This Seminyak based diving school will teach you how to dive safely, or if you are already an experienced diver you can also sign up for a dive trip with them.

There is no diving in Seminyak itself but there are a range of dive spots just a short boat ride away so you can hop onboard and enjoy the underwater delights that Bali is famous for.

4. Check out the art at Nyaman Gallery

Nyaman Gallery

Nyaman Gallery is one of the best places to come in Seminyak if you are interested in art and want to support the arts scene in Bali.

Most of the pieces on show here are made by local Balinese and Indonesian artists with an emphasis on showcasing up-and-coming new talent.

There are a huge number of pieces on show here including wearable art, ceramics, painting, and sculpture.

There are also items from around Indonesia such as ornate carvings from East Nusa Tenggara as well as hand blown glass and oil paintings.

Almost all of the pieces are for sale, so you can also pick up your own piece of art as a souvenir of your trip to Seminyak.

5. Go horse riding

Seminyak Horse Ride

One of the most popular activities to enjoy on Seminyak Beach is the chance to go horse riding.

Trips along the beach usually take two hours to complete and you can ride along the beach from Seminyak to Canggu.

Each rider is assigned a horse and you will have professional guides to lead you along the sand to make sure that you can enjoy the ocean views in a safe and serene way.

This is also a great choice for those travelling with a family as children are welcome and there are a variety of ponies to choose from.

Suggested tour : Canggu: Horse Riding on the Beach and in the Rice Fields

6. Go surfing at Seminyak Beach

Seminyak Beach

Seminyak Beach is a lovely spot of golden sand and always feels less crowded than Kuta, even though it is equally popular.

The waves here provide some surfing opportunities although the surf can be a little inconsistent and this is also a good place to go swimming.

If you prefer, you can rent a sun lounger and just take in the atmosphere and there are a huge number of stalls here that will happily sell you some ice cold beer or a soft drink as the perfect complement to the spectacular Balinese sunsets.

Suggested tour : Bali: 2-Hour Surfing Lessons

7. Admire Pura Petitenget

Pura Petitenget

One of the only real ‘attractions’ in Seminyak as such is Pura Petitenget which is one of six important sea temples in Bali.

The temples line the coast from Pura Luhur Ulu Watu which is on the Bukit Peninsula and stretch to the most famous temple in Bali which is Pura Tanah Lot in the west of the island.

Petitenget means ‘magic box’ and this is a reference to a magic box owned by a priest called Nirartha who would have lived in the 16th century.

The priest regularly visited the temple which is why it was named after the magic box.

8. Spend the evening at Ku De Ta

Ku De Ta

Ku De Ta is one of the most popular places in Seminyak and is a large beachfront bar which has some great views over the ocean.

They do a wonderful range of specialty cocktails and you can rent a lounger or sit on a bean bag on the beach and take in the scenery.

There is also a resident DJ here that keeps the party going in the evenings and an onsite restaurant where you can order some bar snacks or a full meal.

9. Relax at Seminyak Yoga Shala

Seminyak Yoga Shala

Bali is famous for its yoga and Seminyak is no exception.

New on the yoga scene here is Seminyak Yoga Shala which is located on the central artery of Jalan Seminyak and also has a raw food cafe onsite.

There are a range of different classes you can take every day that will suit a variety of levels of ability and you can also try different types of yoga such as Ashtanga and Mysore and there are also Qi Gong and Tai Chi classes available here.

If you want to de-stress and unwind you can buy a day pass or sign up for a longer course of yoga if you are in town for a while.

10. Visit Pura Masceti

Ceremony At Pura Masceti

Along with Pura Petitenget, Pura Masceti is another famous temple in Seminyak although it is also a more specific one.

Where Pura Petitenget is a sea temple, Pura Masceti is an agricultural temple which is used by farmers.

Anyone linked to agriculture can come here to pray for rain or for insect infestations to stop damaging their crops and it is even known as a spot for builders to lay offerings before they break ground on a new villa.

11. Spend the evening at Bali Joe

Bali Joe

If you are looking for some nightlife in Seminyak then Bali Joe is one of the few openly LGBT venues on the island.

While Bali is generally a permissive and open-minded place, some members of the LGBT community may feel more comfortable at a dedicated LGBT nightclub, and if this is the case then Bali Jo makes a great choice.

The party keeps going on long into the wee small hours of the morning here and there are shows that feature elaborately costumed drag queens and go-go dancers who get the crowd on their feet.

12. Go shopping on Jalan Laksmana

Jalan Laksmana

Jalan Laksmana is one of the main roads in Seminyak and is it known as a shopping haven not only in Seminyak but across wider Bali as well.

Here you will find a vast selection of big brands which include resort clothes like Saba and Mist and surf wear such as Drifter.

If you want to splash the cash then you can opt to shop at places like Milk & Roses or pick up some casual styles at Buddha Wear.

Whatever your tastes and budget however, there is no doubt that you will find something to wear here.

13. Have a massage at Bodyworks

Bodyworks

Some visitors may not know that Seminyak is famous in Bali for its sheer number of spas.

Massage parlors are dotted all over this part of the area and if you want to relax and unwind then one of the best places to come is Bodyworks which has been in the business of giving soothing massages for years and has an array of different spa treatments.

14. Enjoy Double Six Beach

Double Six Beach

Double Six Beach is also known as Blue Ocean Beach and is actually a smaller part of the wider Seminyak Beach.

Double Six Beach is notable however thanks to its pristine white sands and backs on to a range of bars and restaurants.

If you want to find the nicest patch of sand in Seminyak then this is probably it, and you can sit on a bean bag with a cocktail and enjoy the sunset.

15. Check out the Theatre Art Gallery

Theatre Art Gallery

When it comes to the Theatre Art Gallery, the clue is in the name.

The gallery focuses on showcasing beautiful Indonesian puppets called wayang that are used when performing traditional Balinese shows.

You will find a wide range of different puppets on display here including both antique items and newer models, and this is not to be missed if you want to know more about this amazing Indonesian art form.

Kuta and Seminyak may be right next door to each other , but they couldn’t be more different. Yes, they may have things in common – after all, we are talking about two tourist-oriented areas, right on the beach in the southern part of Bali.

Kuta is famous for its wild parties , beer buckets by the dozen, and for being a destination for Australian ‘schoolies’ and other tourists looking for a party. On the other hand, Seminyak is dedicated to all fine things in life – luxury villas, high-end restaurants, boutiques, and beach clubs visited by the world’s top DJs.

Seminyak is just half an hour drive from Bali Airport , making it a great first stop on the island – whether you’re going to spend two days or two weeks in Bali , or longer. You’ll find plenty of things to do in Seminyak , and it’s a great hub to organise day trips to other parts of the island.

After two stays in Bali, we’ve come up with this list of 20 fun things to do in Seminyak to start your Bali experience with a bang. Let us know if you have more to add!

Fun Things to do in Seminyak

1) hit seminyak or double 6 beach.

Let’s start with the main thing to do in Seminyak – spending time on the beach! Now, don’t expect a paradisiac stretch of white sand, with calm turquoise water and gentle wavelets lapping the shore. If this is what you want, you’d better head to Raja Ampat!

Seminyak and nearby Double Six Beach are buzzing places, full of beach bars, locals selling kites, towels and other beach knick-knacks, surfers practising their moves and people swimming or sunbathing.

It’s a fun place to spend the day, with always something to do – and if you get hungry, there are a lot of beach restaurants to choose from!

2) Learn How to Surf

You’ll find people swimming on Seminyak and Double Six Beach, but these are really surf beaches . Joining a surf class or spending a day (or three) hitting the waves is next up on our list of things to do in Seminyak – after all, Bali is what it is because of surf!

Seminyak is a great place to learn how to surf – it’s not as busy as Canggu, and not as challenging as the legendary surf beaches in the Bukit Peninsula of Southern Bali.

Echo Beach is a good place to start – it’s long and offers a variety of conditions, so even if you’re a complete novice you’ll be able to have some fun.

Book your surf lesson below – or arrange it locally, but remember that places do fill up!

  • Bali: 2 Hour Surfing Lesson
  • Seminyak: Beginner Surf Lesson with GoPro Pics

3) Practice Yoga

Are you heading to Bali to improve your spiritual wellbeing? If that is the case, I’m sure yoga will be part of your plans. Well, guess what – you’re in the right place. Even though Ubud is Bali’s yoga capital, you’ll find great yoga studios everywhere you go, including Seminyak.

Seminyak’s best known yoga studios are Ashtanga-focused Yoga Shala, Yoga 108, and Jiwa Yoga , the best known Bikram studio on the island. If you’re staying in a villa, you can also arrange for a private yoga instructor to visit, and if you’re in a hotel, yoga lessons are sometimes offered for free.

4) Hit the Gym

Are you not into surf or yoga, but still wish to keep fit? Fear not – many of Bali’s best gyms are in Seminyak , so you’ll be sure to find the perfect workout for your needs.

Do you want a personal trainer? Head to The Bar,  a strength-training gym with a focus on personalised training. Are you a CrossFit junkie? Then, CrossFit Seminyak should be your jam, offering a variety of ‘open days’ , courses and bootcamps.

Other options include Hammerhead, offering a variety of workouts including hip hop, barre and zumba, and Daily Gym, for those who like boxing and kickboxing.

Large hotels often have have an onsite gym and regular workouts for guests, free or for a fee. In any case, if you are a fitness lover, you’ll have plenty of gym options in Seminyak!

5) Join a Cooking Class

This is definitely one of the most fun things to do in Seminyak! There are tons of cooking classes on offer, usually starting with a market visit where you pick the day’s freshest ingredients guided by your chef, and then followed by a lesson where you learn to make Balinese favourites like satay, gado gado, spicy salads and more.

After cooking, it’s time to savour the fruits of your hard work! Your cooking class will be followed by lunch or dinner , and you’ll be given a booklet with the recipes you’ve just cooked to take home, so you can surprise your guests next time you host a dinner party.

Take a look at the food tours below – but make sure to arrive hungry!

  • Seminyak: Cooking Class with a Balinese Family
  • Authentic Cooking Class in a Local Village

6) Take a Food Tour

Do you love to eat, but you’re not willing to work hard for your dinner? Instead of a cooking class, you can opt for a Seminyak food tour.

Don’t forget that Seminyak has a hip, luxury vibe – this is not really the place to head into any old warung , as you can do that anywhere in Bali. In Seminyak, you should treat yourself!

Here’s a great food tour including a market visit and a cooking class !

7) Visit Petitenget Temple

If you’re in Bali just for a short time and want to visit a temple , the closest one to Seminyak will be Petitenget Temple.

This is very much a locals-only temple , hidden away between the glitzy Seminyak hotels and eateries. A red brick and sandstone entrance with an elaborate Balinese portal surrounds a number of pavillions and shrines. As it’s the case with other temples in Bali, tourists are not allowed to enter the inner sanctum , reserved for locals and praying.

Right next to Petitenget Temple you can also see the smaller Pura Masceti , where locals worship asking the gods to protect their crops. Both temples are fun to visit during celebrations happening according to the Balinese calendar , when you can see dancing and locals in their best traditional clothing.

Try to visit with a local guide if possible , so you’ll be well versed in temple dos and don’ts. Definitely an unusual thing to do in Seminyak , as most visitors stick to the beach!

8) Get Your Coffee Fix

You can really find anything in Seminyak – including excellent coffee! If you’ve spent time in offbeat places in Bali or beyond and are craving that perfect latte from home, you’re more than likely to find it here.

Seminyak is second only to Canggu for that Insta-perfect blend of colourful walls , totally extra latte art and tasty cakes and slices – including plenty of raw and/or vegan options, bien sûr!

There are literally dozens of cafés in Seminyak – we recommend checking out Revolver (or Baby Revolver , depending where in Seminyak you are), Sisterfields, Coffee Cartel or Bottega Italiana in Petitenget.

9) Go Scuba or Helmet Diving

Bali is home to great scuba diving, and even though Seminyak itself doesn’t have any dive sites, it’s a very convenient place to arrange scuba diving trips.

Dive shops organising fun dives in places like Padangbai’s Blue Lagoon and Tulamben Bay (home to the famous USAT Liberty wreck!) will also include pick up and drop off from Seminyak hotels.

If you’re not certified but still want to experience the thrill of being underwater, opt for a helmet diving session – you’ll be walking on the seabed without even getting your hair wet, I guarantee it’s super fun!

Here are some of the best diving excursions from Seminyak:

  • Bali: Tulamben Bay and the USAT Liberty Wreck Dive
  • Bali: Padangbai Blue Lagoon Beginner’s Dive Experience
  • Bali: Tulamben Bay Beginner’s Dive Experience

10) Go Shopping!

Do you think shopping in Bali is all about Bintang t-shirts and knock-off batik? Think again – Seminyak is a real shopping paradise , with a multitude of boutiques where you’ll find kaftans, sarongs, camisoles and more of that boho-chic style that’s become synonym with Bali, plus swimwear, surf clothing and accessories, leather goods, and more.

In Seminyak you’ll also find two shopping malls , Seminyak Square and Seminyak Village – the latter has more upmarket shops compared to the former. Yet, the real deals to be had in Seminyak are at boutiques – the best ones are on Jalan Kunti and Jalan Laksmana.

There are plenty of wonderful boutiques to check out in Seminyak – here are some!

  • Drifter Surf Shop –  with custom surfboards and high-quality surf apparel
  • Thaikila –  all sorts of swimwear, including some beautiful crochet bikinis
  • Uluwatu – minimalistic (but super stylish) beachwear
  • Canaan – artisanal accessories plus yoga clothes and wraps made with hand-loomed fabrics

11) Hunt for Bargains at a Seminyak Market

Ok, I know what you are thinking. All those boutiques along Jalan Laksmana sound brilliant, but who has that much money? Well, I have the solution for you – go shopping at one of Seminyak’s markets instead!

The best known is probably the Flea Market Oberoi , not far from Seminyak Village. You’ll soon notice the ‘flea’ attribute is just in the name – prices are lower than at shops , but definitely not as low as you’d expect from a market. There are some nice boho-chic flowing dresses and accessories though, making for nice souvenirs.

You’ll also find market stalls along the road leading to Double Six Beach and Jalan Raya. Prices will definitely be inflated so feel free to bargain, but don’t forget to be respectful. Those 10K IDR will mean nothing to you, but will definitely make a difference for a local family!

12) Visit an Art Gallery

If you’re into art, another fun thing to do in Seminyak is going to visit an art gallery and maybe even picking up some exclusive souvenirs to remember your time in Bali.

The best known art gallery in Seminyak is definitely Nyaman Gallery – the word ‘nyaman’ means ‘cozy’ in Indonesian, as the gallerists aim to recreate a welcoming environment to showcase the work of emerging Bali-based artists. You’ll find a variety of paintings, sculpture, tribal art with beads and feathers, plus artworks made from natural materials like wood and stone.

Other art galleries in Seminyak include Purpa Art Gallery , also focusing on Indonesian artists with pieces for every budget, Positive Negative Visual Gallery also selling prints, and Syah , where you can also have a portrait done in real time!

13) Have a Massage

Bali is a true paradise for massage lovers – everywhere you go, you’ll find massages and beauty treatments on offer, and even the fanciest spas are affordable by Western standards.

This is also true in Seminyak – every upmarket hotel will have treatments and massages on offer, and if you’re staying in a villa it’s usually possible to have a therapist visit. Balinese massage makes use of scented herbal oils , and it’s usually quite gentle, but if you like deep-tissue stimulation you can always ask for a stronger massage.

Finding the best spa in Seminyak is probably a subject for another post, so here are three options if you want to add ‘have a massage’ to your list of things to do in Seminyak. AWAY Spa is known its oxygen treatments and the fact that it’s open 24/7, Moroccan-themed Prana Spa offers Ayurvedic treatments and is super Instagrammable, and Bodyworks has cool therapy rooms and great value for money.

Here’s our guide to the 18 best spas in Bali!

14) Visit a Cool Museum

If you happen to be in Seminyak on a rainy day , you may find yourself wondering what to do – true, a yoga or massage is always a great idea, but what if you just want to do something fun?

You could head to the DMZ 3D Art Museum , where Korean artists have created more than 120 optical illusions that will make you feel as if you were walking through the Pyramids, diving underwater, or visiting some of Bali’s best known sights.

It’s the perfect place to visit in Seminyak on a rainy day , especially for a family!

Best Day Trips from Seminyak

16) explore the rest of bali on a day trip.

Seminyak is a great first stop in Bali , and the great choice of transport options also make it a good base, especially if you’re in Bali only for a few days.

From Seminyak, it’s easy to arrange day trips to other locations in Bali – for example, to Nungnung and other waterfalls around Bali , or to the Jatiluwih rice terraces .

Another amazing thing to do would be heading to Nusa Penida – although we recommend staying for longer than a day trip!

marghe nick jatiluwih

Here are some amazing day trips you can take from Seminyak!

  • Uluwatu and Jimbaran Day Tour
  • Rafting and Quad Biking in Bali
  • Bali Instagram Tour – The Most Scenic Spots
  • Snorkeling Day Trip to Nusa Lembongan and Penida
  • Hidden Canyon, Waterfall & Temples Small Group Tour

16) Climb Mount Batur at Sunrise

My favourite day trip from Seminyak was to Mount Batur , one of Bali’s three active volcanoes. If you are into hiking and don’t mind waking up a little early, definitely add a Mount Batur sunrise hike to your list of things to do in Seminyak!

You’ll be picked up around 1 am from your accommodation and driven to a location in Central Bali. From there, you’ll meet your guide and start hiking in the dark – the aim is reaching the summit in time to see the sunrise.

Hiking up takes about 1 hour and a half , and it’s totally achievable if you are reasonably fit. Seeing the sun rise behind Mount Agung, the tallest volcano in Bali, will be worth the effort and the early wake up call – especially if Mount Agung happens to be erupting!

To know more, you can read our full guide about hiking Mount Batur at sunrise , and here are some tours so you can see for yourself!

  • Mount Batur Sunrise Trek + Hot Springs
  • 2 Days Sunset and Sunrise Camping at Mount Batur

  • Mount Batur Sunrise Hike and Hidden Waterfall

17) Spend a Day in Ubud

A day trip to Bali’s spiritual capital is also a must do while in Seminyak – unless you’re planning a longer stay, something we wholeheartedly recommend.

There are so many things to do in Ubud and surrounds – from hiking rice terraces to visiting temples, going on yoga retreats and meeting shamans, going shopping and experiencing water purification ceremonies…

Ubud is truly a special place. Don’t miss it!

Things to do in Seminyak at Night

18) enjoy the foodie scene.

So much to eat, so little time! This is particularly true in Seminyak – from uber-fancy conceptual eateries to bare-bones warung , and everything in between, the restaurant choice is almost endless.

A lively expat scene means that Seminyak is also a good place to enjoy your favourite food – be it ramen, burgers, pizza or whatever else, you can be sure to find it in Seminyak.

bottega italiana semonyak

Choosing the best restaurant in Seminyak is likely to be a formidable task, so here are 6 of your favourites – if you know of any more, feel free to let us know and we’ll add them!

  • Bottega Italiana – excellent Italian restaurant with the best pizza and pasta in two locations in Seminyak! The owner is a friend of mine from Milan.
  • Wacko Burger Cafe – the best burgers in Seminyak, period! There are also vegetarian and vegan burgers.
  • Naughty Nuri’s Warung – the Seminyak outpost of the original Naughty Nuri in Ubud, famous for its sticky ribs and dirty Martinis.
  • Motel Mexicola – this fun restaurant/bar with a retro vibe is worth visiting for its excellent Mexican food, but make sure you also stay for the party!
  • Mama San – delicious Pan-Asian cuisine and cocktails plus classy interiors.
  • Merah Putih – THE place to go for upscale Indonesian food! The eye-catching architecture and great prices will make you want to return time and time again.

19) Go to a Beach Bar

beach bar double six beach

Well, having fun on the beach is definitely the best thing to do in Seminyak , and the reason why many visit! We’ve already seen above that Seminyak and Double Six beaches are buzzing during the day – after dark, the fun just keeps on going.

Most revellers start their night with a sunset beer (or six) at a beach bar, before moving on to a club. Both Seminyak and Double Six beaches are full of beach bars with colourful umbrellas and bean bags , plus a choice of simple meals and plenty of chilled beverages.

La Plancha is a long-running favourite, but loud music and hefty prices mean it’s probably better to look for alternatives. Taris Bali and D’Joglo are just a short walk away and just as fun!

20) Or Party at a Beach Club!

beach club double six beach

There’s one more unmissable thing to do in Seminyak at night – party away at a beach club! If you’ve never heard of Bali beach clubs, I’m sure you have seen pictures on Instagram – they’re those paradise places with beachside infinity pools, daybeds and beanbags to lounge on during the day while you snack on Bali bowls and sip fruit cocktails.

When sunset comes, the party begins . There are live shows, music ranging from EDT to smooth lounge tunes, international DJs visiting, swanky restaurants, and more. Start your night with sunset beers at a beach bar and then move onto one of Seminyak’s historic clubs like Ku De Ta or Potato Head.

Otherwise, hit one of the new kids on the block like Tropicola (from the same management as Motel Mexicola!) or Sugarsand , known for its rooftop lounge and Peruvian/Japanese menu.

How to Get to and Around Seminyak

Seminyak is only about half an hour away from Bali airport , so it’s a great place to stay as a first or last stop on the island.

The best way to get between Seminyak and the airport is by Bluebird taxi or private driver – expect to pay about 150K IDR for the ride, more at night.

To get around Seminyak, or between Seminyak and other towns in Bali, you have several options:

-Scooter Rental

This is the most popular way to get around Seminyak and the rest of Bali. Scooter rental is about  60K IDR per day , and approx 600/700K IDR for an entire month.

PLEASE exercise extreme caution if you have never ridden scooters or motorbikes before, and make sure you’re covered by travel insurance.

-Ride Sharing Apps

Ride sharing apps like Grab/Go-Jek are very popular with visitors that don’t want to rent scooters and don’t want to battle with taxi drivers every day.

They work exactly like Uber – if you need a car, opt for Grab , while  Go-Jek allows you to hitch a ride on the back of a motorbike, which is usually cheaper and faster.

The only issue in Seminyak and other tourist hotspots is that taxi drivers prevent Uber and Go-Jek drivers from operating , and you may find it hard to get a ride. If that’s the case, a taxi will be your only option.

You’ll find taxis everywhere in Seminyak, but if you hop on a random taxi on the street, you almost certainly will get ripped off.

The best way to prevent this is using Bluebird taxis , which are safe and always use a meter. They’re easy to spot as all their cars are the same bright blue colour, but pay attention to the sign on the door and make sure it says says BLUEBIRD and not ‘Blue Bali’ or something similar, as there are plenty of copycats!

-Private Driver

Hiring a private driver may not be so convenient for short hops around Seminyak, but it’s definitely a good idea if you’re planning to go on day trips around Bali including several stops, or to get between the airport and Seminyak.

Rates are convenient at about 600K IDR for a day –  if there is four of you, it means less than €10 each for the day! A ‘whole day’ means 10 hours, if you need your driver for longer it usually costs an extra 50K per hour.

If you are looking for a reliable private driver, get in touch with Yung  – her phone number is +62 811 5997 995

Where to Stay in Seminyak

Where to begin? Are you after a resort-style hotel, a swanky villa, or some moderately-priced accommodation? There are literally hundreds of hotels, villas and guesthouses to choose from in Seminyak , so it all depends on what you’re after.

courtyard marriott seminyak

We stayed at Courtyard Marriott Seminyak , a resort-style hotel just steps away from Double Six beach, with a large swimming pool with three sections (including one with a swim-up bar!), a lounging area, and THE BEST BREAKFAST I’ve ever had in my life. Honestly, I’ll stay there again for the breakfast alone!

Seminyak is a great place to visit all year round. No matter when you time your visit, you’ll find beautiful beaches, excellent shopping, and a lively beach club scene. Bali’s hottest (and busiest) season occurs between May and September, when temperatures regularly surpass 30 degrees. Expect busier beaches and higher prices.

The monsoon season occurs between October and April, but don’t let this put you off. Although you’re likely to experience some wet weather, it usually only rains for a few hours a day. You still enjoy the sunshine the rest of the day.

For the best conditions, visit in early May when the weather is warm and the lush countryside is looking its best.

What to do in Seminyak in the afternoon? Pick a perch with a view and watch the sunset.

Bali’s west coast boasts some of the most incredible sunset spots in Indonesia, and Seminyak is a great place to watch the last of the day’s rays hit the glittering water. There are photo opportunities galore on the beaches, especially during the rainy season, when the billowing clouds take on spectacular colours at the end of the day.

Berawa and Petitenget beaches offer some of the best views, and there are plenty of bars (including the rooftop terrace at Double Six) where you can enjoy the views with a Bintang in your hand. If you’re looking for free things to do in Seminyak, I’d say watching the sunset is my top pick!

Learn To Scuba Dive

The beaches at Seminyak don’t offer many opportunities for diving (it’s more famous for surfing) but that doesn’t mean that you can’t learn HOW to scuba dive during your stay here. Seminyak is the perfect jumping-off point for visiting dive sites such as Nusa Penida and the Liberty shipwreck.

Several dive companies operate out of Seminyak, catering for beginners and advanced divers, so this is the perfect place to try your hand at scuba diving. However, be warned – after one trip in Bali’s rich and diverse waters, you’ll be hooked!

With beautiful terraced rice fields, hip backpacker joints and gorgeous temples, Ubud is one of my favourite places in Bali. It’s accessible as a day trip, and a tour like this one packs in all of the best sights.

Learn To Surf

The high winds that sweep along Bali’s southwest coast make it a surfer’s paradise. Although nearby Canggu is one of the most popular surf spots on the island, the beaches in Seminyak also offer up some fabulous waves.

Seminyak is a great place for beginner surfers, as the waves aren’t too challenging and there are lots of instructors who ply their trade on the beaches. It’s also a great way to work off some of the tasty Balinese food you’ll be eating during your holiday!

Visit a Balinese Temple

Bali is packed with beautiful temples – living sites of worship and an important part of the island’s heritage. Pura Petitenget is one of Seminyak’s most historic attractions. It’s an important Balinese sea temple built around the legend of the priest Niratha and his magic box.

To gain a deeper understanding of the culture you could also visit the temple complex at Pura Masceti, where farmers come to pray for fine weather and to ward off rat infestations.

16 Top Things To Do in Seminyak, Bali [With Map]

Kieren Windsor

Hi, I’m Kieren, a full-time blogger from the UK. Bali’s become my home from home after spending 10+ months visiting every corner of the island. Every photo on this blog was taken by us during our travels!

Seminyak is Bali’s liveliest resort town, packed with world-class restaurants, stylish beach clubs, and a bustling nightlife scene. Although it has a slightly upmarket feel, everything still feels affordable, making it perfect for those with an appetite for luxury but without the bank balance to match (us in a nutshell!).

Throughout our two years of exploring Bali, we’ve spent most of our time along this southwest stretch of coastline. Given how well we know the area, we thought we’d put together this guide with some of our favourite things to do in Seminyak and the surrounding area.

Seminyak Map

Things to do in seminyak, 1. enjoy beautiful sunsets on the beach.

tourist places near seminyak bali

Seminyak marks the point where the volcanic black sand beaches of northern Bali begin the transition to more picturesque golden hues of the south.

Situated on the west coast, these pristine beaches also offer some of the best sunset views on the island.

tourist places near seminyak bali

The strong waves here are perfect for surfing, but not so great for swimming. If you decide to go in the water, pay close attention to the flags and only swim in the permitted areas.

Although it’s pretty much one continuous beachfront, Seminyak’s beaches can be split into these three main areas from north to south:

Petitnget Beach

tourist places near seminyak bali

Backed by a number of high end hotels, restaurants, and beach clubs, Petitnget is one of the quieter and more laid-back beaches in Seminyak. It’s a popular spot for families or groups of friends to hang out and relax.

Compared to the rest of Seminyak, there are few vendors or facilities on the actual beach itself. Instead, we love to grab a cold coconut and a freshly made crepe from the stalls near the entrance and find a spot on the sand to lay down our beach towel.

Seminyak Beach

tourist places near seminyak bali

This stretch of beach along central Seminyak is the liveliest area, while still embodying the upscale and chic side of the town. There are dozens of public bars and restaurants lining the beachfront, with plenty of beach seating, live music, and an upbeat atmosphere.

Our favourite venue here is La Plancha , a Spanish-inspired beach bar famous for its colourful parasols and bean bags. It gets busy around sunset but the service is great and the vibe is always fun.

Seminyak Beach is also the best spot for surfing, with beginner-friendly waves and plenty of surf schools. We’ll touch more on surfing later as this is another of the most popular things to do in Seminyak.

Double Six Beach

tourist places near seminyak bali

Towards the south, where Seminyak borders Legian, you’ll also find Double Six Beach.

This area is still lively but in a more casual way. The upscale beach clubs and bars are replaced with local beachside vendors selling coconuts or beers at a more budget-friendly price.

2. Spend the day at a legendary beach club

Seminyak is home to some of Bali’s best beach clubs, which are perfect for a fun-filled pool day. The vibe can vary depending on the one you choose, with some offering a relaxing atmosphere and others more suitable for partying.

Here are some of our favourite beach clubs in Seminyak:

Desa Potato Head

tourist places near seminyak bali

Desa Potato Head is our favourite beach club in Seminyak, if not the whole of Bali. It’s modern but artsy, with an unusual facade made from thousands of recycled window shutters and lost flip-flops.

Compared to some of the more lively beach clubs, Potato Head’s chilled vibe appeals to everyone, from young people to families with kids and older couples.

Their shallow infinity pools overlooking the beach are our go-to sunset spot. And to seal the deal, there’s no entry fee or minimum spend (unless you opt for a day bed or lawn mattress).

tourist places near seminyak bali

The club (and the 5-star resort attached to it) are known for their eco-friendly approach and zero-waste commitment. Upon entering, you’ll notice the workshops that turn plastic waste into furniture and art installations that you’ll find dotted around the club.

Potato Head offers far more than your standard Bali beach club. You can enjoy free live music on Sunday evenings, yoga and wellness sessions, fitness classes, beach clean-ups, cocktail-making classes, documentary screenings, kids events, and loads more – see the full schedule here.

Mrs Sippy is a family-friendly beach club in Seminyak that offers a casual vibe with a DJ playing tropical beach club beats.

They have a large lagoon-style pool with a swing and diving platforms up to 5m high if you’re brave enough. But it’s the floating beanbags and big inflatable ducks that caught our eyes.

Onsite, they have the Mrs Sippy Seafood Market, inspired by the seafood market in Jimbaran. It specialises in serving freshly caught seafood which you can choose yourself. If that isn’t to your taste, they have a wood-fired pizza oven too.

There is a 100,000 IDR entry fee for everyone, plus minimum spend applies for some seating areas. But it’s worth the price if you’re planning to spend a whole day there.

tourist places near seminyak bali

Ku De Ta might be small compared to others nearby, but it is one of Seminyak’s original beach clubs, remaining a firm Bali favourite for almost 25 years.

What makes Ku De Ta stand out is its luxurious and exclusive vibe and its award-winning culinary offering. There’s a casual and reasonably priced lunch menu, but the dinner menu (from 5pm) is when you get the real good stuff.

The venue’s South African head chef has created a fantastic menu that features the likes of wood-fired steaks amongst other Western and Indonesian dishes. If you’re a meat-eating foodie, you’ll love it.

This is another of the more family-friendly beach clubs in Bali during the day and evening. Kids can enjoy the small beachfront infinity pool. On Sundays, they even have family activities from 10am-2pm.

Aside from the bigger evening events (such as their famous White Party), there’s usually no entry fee for KU DE TA. Although a minimum spend applies if you want a day bed.

3. Visit some of Bali’s hottest nightclubs

Seminyak is probably the best nightlife spot in Bali with some of the best bars and nightclubs on the island.

Most of these venues spend their days as unassuming restaurants, before transforming into lively clubs as the evening goes on.

Keep in mind that some of Seminyak’s bars and nightclubs have a dress code and often require men to wear proper shoes, not flip-flops. We’ve been caught out before! Check ahead so you don’t get turned away at the door.

Here are our three favourite nightclubs in Seminyak:

tourist places near seminyak bali

Inspired by the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, La Favela is a restaurant and club with an eclectic vintage design complete with its very own Christ the Redeemer statue in the center.

During the day, they serve a range of Latin-American dishes. But as the night goes on, DJs take to the decks and it becomes one of the busiest nightclubs on the island. Expect a range of music genres throughout the building, including R’n’B, house, techno, and old-school classics.

We’ll warn you now, this place is like a maze, with so many different rooms and floors. It can be a challenge to navigate when sober, let alone after a few drinks. Set a meeting spot when you arrive in case you lose your friends.

tourist places near seminyak bali

By day, Izakaya Lounge is an upscale Aisan-fusion restaurant best known for its bento boxes. But after dark, it transforms into Shishi , a three-storey nightclub playing R’n’B or techno depending on which floor you visit.

Emily loves visiting Shishi on a Wednesday for their infamous ladies’ night when women get free entry, a free bento box, and unlimited cocktails for 2-3 hours. These aren’t watered-down cocktails like you’ll get at some free-flow events. The drinks are properly prepared each time and usually pretty strong too. Men can also get in on the food and drink deal for 250,000 IDR.

Motel Mexicola

tourist places near seminyak bali

Motel Mexicola is a colourful Mexican-themed restaurant that turns into a lively bar/club as the evening goes on, fueled by copious amounts of tequila. It’s one of our favourite late-night party spots where dancing on the tables is a rite of passage.

Seminyak is home to the original Mexicola, but a new one has recently opened in Canggu too.

4. Enjoy some modern masterpieces at Nyaman Art Gallery

tourist places near seminyak bali

Seminyak has a bustling art scene with dozens of art shops and tiny galleries. While most are more targeted at serious art buyers, one that we think appeals to a much wider audience is Nyaman Art Gallery .

Spread across 8 different rooms, the gallery hosts an evolving collection by 15 local and international artists. Each artist has a distinct style that you start to recognise as you proceed through the gallery.

My favourite was Evgeny Bam whose colourful abstract combines his background as a street artist with influences from the Canggu surf scene. Emily liked Yoga Raharja, a Javanese photographer whose work has captured rare scenes from Indonesian ceremonies and cultural events.

tourist places near seminyak bali

QR codes can be found next to each piece, allowing you to find out more about the artist and their style.

Many of the items in the gallery are available to purchase (with prices usually into the $000’s). We didn’t feel under pressure to buy anything and were welcome to just look at the art. The staff provided a small introduction to the gallery then left us to explore by ourselves.

5. Get competitive at Shooters Bali

tourist places near seminyak bali

Roll up, Roll up, and head on over to Shooters, a carnival-themed bar with a selection of fun games guaranteed to encourage some healthy competition.

We’ve spent many evenings here, making the most of many sideshow alley favourites such as indoor crazy golf, axe throwing, and target practice at the shooting range. You can pay for each activity individually, but you’ll get the best deal if you opt for all three in one go.

tourist places near seminyak bali

Free mini-games are also available throughout the bar, including ping pong tables, giant Jenga, and retro console games like Street Fighter.

Shooters food and drink menu is in keeping with the carnival theme, with tasty treats such as pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, and even cotton candy! You are free to eat and drink while playing games, but in our experience, this can result in some questionable axe throwing.

6. Catch some waves at a beginner-friendly surf spot

tourist places near seminyak bali

Seminyak is known as one of the island’s best beginner-friendly surf spots, with gentle but consistent waves. It’s one of the few beaches (along with Kuta) with a sandy bottom so there’s no need to worry about cutting your feet on the corals.

Although a popular spot, the long break provides plenty of space for surfers to spread out so crowding isn’t a concern.

There are plenty of surf schools along the beach for those looking for lessons . If you’re willing to negotiate, you can usually turn up and find an instructor right away. Or you can book online with Nuna Surf School to get a fair price with hotel pick-up included. Of course, all of the schools also offer board rental if you’d rather head out by yourself.

7. Indulge in a delicious Seminyak brunch

tourist places near seminyak bali

Seminyak has a vibrant café scene with dozens of amazing brunch spots. Whether you’re looking for a classic Bali brunch of avo & eggs on toast or something a little more extravagant such as a meat and seafood buffet, there’s something for everyone.

We’ve taken on the difficult task of making our way around Seminyak’s top brunches. Here are a few of our favourites:

tourist places near seminyak bali

Kynd – With an entirely plant-based menu and pretty bright pink décor, Kynd is one of Seminyak’s most Instagrammable brunch cafés. And the food is great too!

Shelter Café – Hidden away on a rooftop terrace in Seminyak, Shelter Café is a cute brunch spot with a relaxed atmosphere and is never too busy. The food looks and tastes incredible, but be warned – the portion sizes are huge! Emily’s cheese toastie was enough to feed a small army!

Starfish Boo at The W – If you prefer your brunches with unlimited booze (guilty!), consider heading to The W’s Starfish Bloo restaurant for its famous bottomless Sunday brunch, which features a huge buffet spread with everything from roasted meats and seafood to dumplings and desserts. It doesn’t come cheap, but you’ll have three hours to get your money’s worth.

8. Take a cooking class at Warung Nia

tourist places near seminyak bali

Balinese food is delicious at the best of times, but there’s something even more fulfilling when you cook it yourself. The best way to learn how the locals do it is with a Balinese cooking class.

We took one on our very first visit to Bali and continue to use the recipes today.

The best cooking class in Seminyak is at Warung Nia . Classes take place in the morning and include a trip to the local market beforehand where you’ll discover how locals purchase the ingredients and get a chance to practice your haggling skills.

After the market trip, you’ll spend the rest of the morning learning traditional cooking techniques in their purpose-built kitchen. You’ll join a group class so you can also make new friends along the way.

Of course, the highlight comes at the end when you get to eat your delicious creations.

We can’t guarantee what you’ll cook as it varies by class. But in our cooking class, we made curry, chicken satay, sayur urab (mixed veggies), and sweet and sour tempe. They usually have some veggie and vegan recipes too.

Book Now: Warung Nia Cooking Class

9. Escape from the Pandora Experience

tourist places near seminyak bali

The Pandora Experience is one of just two escape rooms in Bali. If you’re unfamiliar with the idea of an escape room, it’s when you’re locked in a room and must find clues or solve puzzles to escape before the timer expires.

There are five different themed rooms to choose from at Pandora; Area 51, Alcatraz, Legend of Eldorado, Shutter Asylum, or N.E.V.E.R.L.A.N.D. Each room is suitable for 2-10 people making it ideal for large groups.

We attempted Shutter Asylum with friends, which had plenty of complex puzzles and exciting interactive challenges. We won’t spoil too much for you – but we will say that you’ll need a decent level of mobility for this one!

The time limit is longer than most escape rooms we’ve tried, with 120 minutes to escape. But the time flies by once you’re inside. The rooms close at 7pm so the final session of the day starts at 5pm.

It’s slightly cheaper to book the ticket on Klook, but you’ll still need to message them to reserve a time slot.

10. Relax and rejuvenate with luxurious spa treatments

tourist places near seminyak bali

In stark contrast to its chaotic nightlife scene, Seminyak is also home to some of Bali’s best spas, massage parlours, and beauty salons. Perfect for treating yourself to some pampering and relaxation.

If you’ve not tried a Balinese massage before, it’s a calming and relaxing full-body experience based on traditional healing practices. Most parlours also offer other massage types, such as deep-tissue and hot stone.

You can also enjoy many other treatments, including body scrubs, facials, hair baths, manicures, pedicures, waxing, and more.

Here are a few that we recommend:

Bodyworks – One of Seminyak’s original and most iconic spas, not least because of its aesthetic Wes Anderson-style décor. Bodyworks offers massages, facials, waxing, and a range of beauty treatments. They also have a sauna and ice bath which you can book out for a full hour. You can finish off with a flower bath while you enjoy the complimentary tea.

Sundari – Sundari is an excellent spa on the outskirts of Seminyak that’s known for its mani-pedis and traditional Balinese massages. With an elegant design and attentive staff, it’s the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate.

Carla Spa – If you’re looking for a more affordable option, Carla Spa is a local spot that Emily swears by. They have two spas in Seminyak but dozens more across Bali. They are particularly good for full-body massages and foot massages. Cheap, cheerful, and you don’t need to pre-book. Just walk on in!

11. Make your own chocolate at Krakakoa Chocolate Cafe & Factory

Did you know that Seminyak has its own chocolate factory?! It’s not quite Willy Wonka’s extravagant factory, but an adorable little café on the outskirts of the town with onsite chocolate-making facilities.

The highlight of visiting Krakakoa is their chocolate-making experience. Lasting around an hour, you’ll see how they make their chocolate, learn how to taste chocolate like a pro, and even try making your very own chocolate bar.

You’ll do everything from selecting the ingredients to melting, tempering, and molding your creation.

As well as the chocolate-making experience, you can stop off in their café to sample their tasty chocolate and many chocolate-based dishes such as chocolate cake, bonbons, hot chocolate, and more.

12. Hit the shops

tourist places near seminyak bali

Seminyak is the perfect place for a bit of retail therapy. From high-end designer boutiques to the local flea market with traditional crafts and souvenirs, Seminyak offers something for everyone.

For a traditional Western-style mall, head to Seminyak Village . This is a large shopping centre with many of your favourite brands including H&M, Birkenstocks, and Ralph Lauren.

But there’s no shortage of boutique outlets on the surrounding streets, especially along Jalan Kayu Aya and Jalan Kayu Jati. We encourage you to support some of the independent Bali-based brands here such as Uma and Leopold , Lemongrass Bouqtiue , and Paulina Katarina .

The boutique shops are great for big wallets, but our favourite shopping spot is Bali Boat Sheds . What looks like colourful beach huts on the outside contains a stylish selection of men’s and women’s clothing at fairly reasonable prices. Upstairs, their Neon Palms café is also a good spot to refuel after your shopping spree.

If it’s bargain souvenirs you’re looking for, the Flea Market near Ku De Ta might be a better option. Make sure you have cash on hand and be prepared to negotiate to avoid inflated prices.

13. See the spiritual side of Bali at Petitenget Temple

tourist places near seminyak bali

Seminyak is primarily a tourist area, so cultural attractions are few and far between. By far the best way to experience Balinese culture is by getting out and exploring the island beyond Seminyak (see our list of the best cultural attractions in Bali ).

But if you’d rather have the convenience of visiting a temple right on your doorstep, Petitenget Temple (Pura Petitenget) at the northern end of Seminyak is open to the public.

Although small, it’s a good example of Balinese temple architecture and has some beautiful stone carvings inside and out.

Entrance to the temple costs 50,000 IDR which you pay to the attendants in the car park in front of the temple. The entrance fee includes the use of a sarong. But keep in mind that your visit will only take 10 minutes or so.

Also found within the same complex is Pura Masceti Ulun Tanung (Masceti Temple), an agricultural temple used by farmers to pray for a good harvest and protection against threats such as famine and disease.

14. have a fun-filled day out at trans studio bali theme park.

tourist places near seminyak bali

Just a 10 minute drive from central Seminyak is the huge Trans Studio Mall.

The lower floors are filled with shops, restaurants, and arcade games, as you might expect from a mall. But it’s what’s on the upper floors that might surprise you most. Here you’ll find the exciting Trans Studio Bali Theme Park , an enormous indoor theme park.

And it’s definitely no overstatement to call it a theme park. Expect go-karts, thrill rides, river rapids, a Ferris wheel, and even a huge roller coaster sticking out of the mall’s roof.

Some of the more unique attractions at the indoor theme park include a Titanic Zone with a replica of the infamous ship, a Ninja Warrior-inspired obstacle course, and indoor skydiving.

Ticket prices start at 500,000 IDR per adult (for foreigners), so it’s not the cheapest day out. But you can definitely make the most of it by going early and enjoying a full day of activities – there’s certainly enough to keep you busy.

Don’t get caught out like we did. Although the mall itself is open until 10pm, the theme park section is only open until 6pm on weekdays and 7pm on weekends.

15. Brave the Climax at Waterbom

tourist places near seminyak bali

South of Seminyak, you’ll find Kuta. While we don’t typically advise going to Kuta which is rundown and past its heyday, there is one good excellent reason to visit and that’s Waterbom , Bali’s biggest water park.

The park is packed with thrilling water slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, and water playgrounds.

If you’re an adrenaline seeker, the Climax has to be one of the scariest rides at Waterbom. You’ll wait in a small capsule until the trap door swings open and drops you onto the slide at full speed. Not for the faint-hearted!

tourist places near seminyak bali

Whether you’re travelling as a family, a couple, or a group of friends, the park is suitable for everyone and every occasion – we even spent Christmas Day here last year!

Waterbom closes at 6pm, so we always aim to arrive early to make the most of our tickets. There are more than enough activities to fill a day. Plus there are restaurants and a swim-up bar to keep you well-fuelled.

We recommend buying your ticket online to save 15% compared to getting it at the gate.

Book Now: Waterbom Tickets (with online discount)

16. Go wakeboarding at Bali Wake Park

tourist places near seminyak bali

Sticking with the water theme, just 20 minutes outside of Seminyak you’ll find Bali Wake Park.

This unique water sports centre has a state-of-the-art overhead cable system that pulls you around a large lake on either a wakeboard, kneeboard, or water skis.

You can book a one-hour session or get a full-day pass to use the cable park, which includes all equipment. The park is great fun for all ages and abilities – it’s one of our favourite water sports in Bali!

If you’re a complete beginner, there’s a dedicated area where you can pick up the basics with an experienced instructor (included for free). We did this and managed to advance to the main cable park around halfway through our session – although making it the entire way around the course was quite the challenge!

Bali Wake Park also has a fun inflatable water park for younger kids called Aqualand and a cafe with an infinity pool for spectators (there’s no charge to sit and watch). You could easily spend an entire afternoon here enjoying the activities.

Where To Eat in Seminyak

tourist places near seminyak bali

Seminyaks foodie scene centres Jalan Kayu Aya which has been dubbed ‘eat street’ (also known as Jalan Laksmana).

But over the past few years, we’ve noticed more and more great restaurants opening up beyond these streets. So by this point, the whole of Seminyak is a foodie paradise.

We already mentioned some of our favourite brunch spots earlier in this guide, but here are a few other places we love to eat in Seminyak:

Naughty Nuris – Nuris is the OG ribs restaurant in Bali. It’s been open since 1995 and can count Anthony Bourdain and Julia Roberts among past diners. Although not the cheapest, the ribs here are perfectly succulent and just fall off the bone. The service is fast and super friendly. You’ll even receive a full song and dance performance by the staff if you order their giant daiquiri.

Bo and Bun – This Asian-fusion restaurant has a selection of great dishes from across the continent including Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese.  The restaurant has an upmarket feel and a lively atmosphere that’s great for special occasions. Don’t forget to head upstairs to enjoy some creative cocktails in the secret speakeasy bar before you leave.

Where To Stay in Seminyak

tourist places near seminyak bali

We recommend staying in the northern part of Seminyak, especially around Petitenget Beach. This is where you’ll find all of Seminyak’s best resorts and will put you within walking distance of all the best bars, restaurants, beach clubs, and nightclubs.

It’s the more upscale part of town and the prices reflect that, but there’s still a good range of accommodation for different budgets.

The biggest downside is that this area is the busiest in terms of traffic. But since everything you need is within walking distance, you shouldn’t get caught up unless you’re heading further afield.

All that being said, there are dozens of amazing places to stay all over Seminyak. Here are a few that we recommend:

Potato Head Suites and Studios (££)

We’ve already mentioned that Potato Head is one of our favourite beach clubs, but it’s actually part of a 5-star resort voted among the 50 best in the world.

Potato Head Suites and Studios is in a great location with beach access on one side and one of Seminyak’s busiest streets full of bars and restaurants on the other.

Choose from the more traditional suites or the super modern studios, all with open-plan living, excellent views, and access to their world-class facilities.

IZE Seminyak by Lifestyle Restreats (££)

IZE is proof that you don’t have to fork out a lot for a good place to stay in Seminyak. Considering it’s a stylish four-star hotel right at the heart of Jalan Kayu Aya (Eat Street as mentioned before), rooms start at around £65 per night. And for a tiny bit extra, you can even get a private hot tub in your room!

Alila Seminyak (£££)

If luxury is the name of the game, you won’t find much better than Alila Seminyak . These beachfront suites have no expense spared, with a modern but elegant design and stunning ocean views through floor-to-ceiling windows.

You’ll have access to a huge swimming pool, a spa, and a fitness centre. Plus, they go above and beyond to make your experience super easy with babysitting services and free pick-up from the airport.

Hit the beaches

Seminyak, though a popular area for travellers, is lucky to have beaches that feel less crowded. Seminyak Beach has golden sand and is an optimal place to catch sunset.

During the day you can try the waves with some water activities or chill out on a lounge chair. The beach is good for swimming too. There are plenty of places for you to grab a drink and some food so you can spend the whole day without leaving the beach.

Other beaches in Seminyak include Double Six Beach and Legian Beach. Kuta Beach is also not far but busier.

Enjoy the beach clubs

Seminyak is home to one of Bali’s best beach clubs, Potato Head (also known as one of the top places to see in Seminyak) is great if you want a day to just chill out either in the sand or by the pool.

The beach is lined with umbrellas and bean bags while around the pool there are cabanas where you can lounge and sip on cocktails all day long.

Be sure to get in early though as many of the cabanas are often claimed for by 10am. You can snack on tapas and large meat and cheese platters or move to sit-down Seminyak restaurants that are available within the beach club.

Another popular beach club is Cocoon on Double Six Beach that has become known as the beach with the best nightlife in Seminyak. Cocoon Beach Club is very inviting with a pool right in the centre and serving funky cocktails all day and night.

Ku De Ta is also another popular choice.

You can also book beach club transfers so you can avoid any hassle with the taxis and not have to drive yourself if you drink!

You can find these classes at 2BeFitBali. Another option is a sunset run where you’ll be spoiled with excellent and colourful views.

Join a yoga retreat

There are a number of yoga retreats in Seminyak that are the perfect length to add onto your Bali holiday. Many are only a couple of days while some are a week long. Either way, joining a yoga retreat could be the perfect way for you to start or end your trip feeling relaxed and calm.

Take a cooking class

You can’t leave Bali without taking a cooking class. Seminyak is one of the best areas to take a cooking class as there are a number of options available.

Balinese dishes are different from others in Indonesia with their own complex and unique flavours. It’s very interesting to learn about and you’ll have the pleasure of making multiple dishes from soups to dinners and desserts.

Go shopping

There are few Seminyak attractions but shopping is one of them as its a top shopping destination in Bali. Since so many expats choose to set up base here they open boutiques ranging from clothing to home furnishings and more.

The area is definitely known to be more high-end with trendy pieces and the latest fashion. Big brand names also open up shops too that include surf shops and fashion. You can find the majority of shopping in Seminyak on Jalan Laksmana which is one of the top shopping streets in all of Bali.

Spend the day at Tropicola

This is a beach club but deserves a mention on its down because it’s one of the trendiest (and brightest) beach clubs there is in Bali!

Tropicola is great as a daytime hangout on the striped lounges and under the bright yellow umbrellas. Some days there are giant watermelon floaties in the pool and big balls being thrown around. At night the upstairs turns into a dance floor and the beat drops.

The food is yummy, the cocktails colourful and the entire space is awesome not just for a fun day but also for the perfect Insta pic. It’s one of the places to visit in Seminyak.

Get cultured

Though Seminyak is most known for being a high-end holiday destination, there are still local things to see in Seminyak as culture is still present. It’s often masked by the shops and villas throughout Seminyak but visiting one or two of the temples will give you a glimpse into Balinese life.

Pura Masceti is an agricultural temple which is used by farmers. Pura Petitenget is a sea temple. Both fend off evil spirits and if you’re lucky you might catch a celebration at these places to visit in Seminyak!

Pamper yourself

Is it really a proper holiday if you didn’t spend some time pampering yourself? Allow yourself some time to truly relax with a visit to the spa for a manicure, pedicure, massage or to get your hair done.

Spas are really attractions in Seminyak with how beautiful some are! A traditional Balinese massage uses oil and is not as rough as a Thai massage but still enough to work the deep tissue.

Prices at spas are very affordable, starting at 90,000 and going up, but you can also choose to splurge and get a luxury treatment. Luxury treatments are still very affordable, typically 250,000 at a high-end spa.

Check out Nyaman Gallery

Art lovers need to head to Nyaman Gallery where they can find art from up and coming Balinese and Indonesian artists. The gallery is great to check out because of the range of art available. Paintings are prominent but there is also hand blown glass, sculptures, ceramics and even wearable art.

All of the pieces that are displayed are for sale so stop by here if you’re looking to decorate with something unique and to support local artists.

Try the waves

Get yourself active in the water by surfing , windsurfing, wakeboarding or kite surfing with these Seminyak activities. You can hit the waves just off of the beach which makes the water conditions ideals for kite surfing.

Though the waves aren’t as consistent as other areas in Bali, you’ll still have a good chance of getting some. There are several surf schools in Seminyak or you’re able to rent your own equipment along the beach.

Enjoy water sports

If surfing or kite surfing isn’t your thing, try a change of activities in Seminyak. There are a few options to enjoy that are less active and more leisurely water sports such as jet-skiing, sea walking (those big yellow helmets you wear to go underwater), parasailing or banana boating.

Get your caffeine dose at cute cafes

Along with the boutique shops, expats have opened plenty of cafes for you to get your daily caffeine dose from. Honestly, the cafes are some of the best places to visit in Seminyak!

Either way, you won’t be disappointed with the cafe scene in Seminyak as they’re pretty much Seminyak tourist attractions that you can’t miss. Some good places to check out are Revolver, Cage Organic and Grain Bali.

Visit Escape Room Bali

Just in case you need a break from the beaches or you hit an especially rainy day in Bali, you can hide from the heat or rain with some indoor entertainment at Escape Room Bali. There are four immersive escape rooms where groups of 2-6 figure out puzzles and use clues to escape the rooms in a limited amount of time.

Experience the Seminyak nightlife

This is one of the best things to do in Seminyak. Nightlife in Seminyak varies from wild club parties to chilled out lounges to relaxed fine dining restaurants. Whatever you choose, there is an option for you.

Clubs often bring in well-known DJs from around the globe so for a night of dancing hit up these hot spots: Ku De Ta Bali, Potato Head Beach Club, Red Ruby Club, OPIVM Bali Nightclub, Mirror Bali Lounge and Club or Motel Mexicola.

For dining or lounge options that are relaxed visit La Favela, Single Malt Bar, Sarong Bali, La Lucciola or Barbacoa Bali.

Visit Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot is one of the most famous temples in Bali not only because of its scenic location but also because it has significant religious meaning to the Balinese.

A Hindu shrine sits atop of a rock that juts out of the water which is only too fitting as Tanah Lot translates to “land in the sea.”

Tanah Lot is most spectacular (and popular) during sunset so if you wish to avoid the crowds then visit during the day. It is about a 30-minute drive away, making it popular for things to do near Seminyak. Transfers are available, and the entrance is 65,000 rupiah.

Take a day trip

Seminyak has plenty to do but it’s also a great place to base yourself because of its central location. Taking a day trip is a great option to see more of Bali and many tours and trips have pick ups in Seminyak so you can see even more beautiful parts of Bali!

A few popular day trips are to Ubud , the culture hub of Bali that’s also known for its nature and Nusa Penida , the island made famous because of Kelingking Beach (T-Rex Cliff), it’s extremely blue waters and manta rays!

Canggu is also the area next to Seminyak and has even more trendy cafes and beach clubs (and is my personal favourite area of Bali because I live there part of the year!).

Seminyak Accommodation

Read my detailed Seminyak accommodation guide to find the best places from budget to luxury, hostels to hotels and villas.

How to Get to Seminyak

Seminyak is a 40-50 minute drive from the Bali airport. To get from the airport to you can hire a taxi which will be the most expensive option, a private driver transfer or book a transfer through your accommodation. I recommend booking a private driver or arranging something through your accommodation to avoid the hassle of taxis at the airport.

From other areas in Bali, you can also choose to use a taxi or private driver. Or you can choose to use Grab, Uber or Go-Jek (the Indonesian version of Grab and Uber). Be aware that these apps don’t pick up in all spots because of the taxi mafia but they do drop off everywhere.

I recommend booking a private driver as they usually around the same price or a little bit higher than the ride sharing apps without any hassle.

Getting Around Seminyak

To get around Seminyak you have the same options are you do for getting to Seminyak. Hire a taxi, private car or organize transport through your accommodation. You can also hire a Grab, Uber or Go-Jek. These ride-sharing services also offer motorbike drivers too so you can get around even cheaper than a driver with a car.

Lastly, you can hire a motorbike to get around for 50,000 per day. Be careful driving! There is a lot of traffic in Bali so I recommend learning in a parking lot before you head out if you’ve never driven before.

Enjoy your time sightseeing in Seminyak and enjoy Bali!

Continue planning your Bali holiday…

Kelingking Beach

Though Bali has n number of surfing spots, Echo Beach was started considered to be an important spot for surfing very recently. The local name is Pantai Batu Mejan and the location is famous because of a significant Balinese Hindu sea temple. The advanced reef breaks, the extensive black crystals on the shore, beautiful sunset views from the beach and a number of lip-smacking sea food delicacies available at the beach cafes etc bring the beach to a vantage point from where everything looks amazing.

The black beach is extended up to 35 kms northwest of Kuta and Seminyak. The beach shares space with the verdant green fields of Canggu and other locations liks Berawa, Pererenan, Seseh etc.

Location:  Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan, Canggu

Santo Mikael Church

Santo Mikael Church

The surrounding which is enthralling and made beautiful with the presence of lush green trees and enjoyable fragrance of island flowers, St Mikael Christian Protestant Church is a must visit when you come to Bali. A picturesque haven that conducts weddings like in heaven, the church seems to be very attractive and peaceful. The gothic style of the church has been a point of discussion in the past but it continued serving the protestant community in Bali for last 30 years pleasantly. Flanked by the nature in a superb manner, this church has unnoticeable features carved on the walls of it.

Highlights:  Since the church is quite famous for wedding, a lot of believers come to partake in the most auspicious ceremony in one’s life and to seek the unending blessings of God. The altar is magnified with the jaw-dropping backdrop which a stained glass window is created a century ago in England. The lights from the sun peep through the window and come inside to spread an alluring setting inside the church. A perfect mélange of different colours floats along the marble floor and the vaults to pass on a fairy tale ambience.

Location:  Dhanya Pura Hotel, Jl.Camplung Tanduk, South Bali is the address of the church.

Oberoi Flea Market

Oberoi Flea Market

For a quick shopping in Seminyak, you can run into the vast arena of multiple items ranging from clothes to leather bags to shoes. Among the menagerie of shopping that can be seen in Bali, selecting the flea market is a choice to be made out of a dice but it is worth spending some time before you return to your native. You can stroll around and find the colourful designs printed on clothes and similar items.

The shops are arrayed in a beautiful way so that you will feel at ease to cover all of them in one go. You are free to bargain and grab the best summer and beach fashion collections from here.

Highlights:  Though the price of the items may become higher related to what you get in Kuta, the quality of the product is competitive and the difference in designs would make you fall for the items displayed. Those who would love to spend some relaxed time before your flight, this small market with a lot of stuff will help you.

Timing:  The market is open on all days of the week during day and night so that the visitors will feel free to roam around and find something unique at every stall at any time.

Location:  Kayu Aya Square Oberoi, Jalan Kayu Aya, Seminyak, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali, Indonesia

Jalan Laksmana

Are you a shopaholic? Head straight to Jalan Laksmana that is truly a shoppers paradise as here you can find everything. From the small food stalls to the trinkets hops there is something for everyone. This place is dubbed as the shopping capital of Bali and is the main strip of Seminyak. This is a 1 km long road where you can find literally everything, be it fashion, furniture, or basic homewares. Apart from this, here you can also shop for precious accessories like bangles, lockets, rings, pendants, and a whole lot more of it. There are multi-concept stores that sell a lot of things so that you need not visit a dozen stores and buy the best from one place.

Highlights: Jewelry shops, food restaurants and stalls, trendy outfits shops, and a whole lot more of local handicrafts.

Location: Jl. Laksmana, Kabupaten Badung, Bali, Indonesia

Timings: 24 hours open

La Favela Tropical Themed Restaurant

La Favela Tropical Themed Restaurant

A different theme inside a bar and restaurant in Bali gives it a wide acclaim across the globe. I am talking about La Favela Bar and Restaurant that welcomes the customers with a differing interior and dining scene. It was opened in 2013 and within a limited time it became very popular among the tourists and natives for its unfamiliar vintage design which had inspiration from the urban scenes of Rio.

It is usually open only for lunch and dinner but the tourists love to be here late and stay back for enjoying the cozy vibes inside. Antiques, themed interiors, different ambience and decorations make the dining just flamboyant.

Highlights:  The semi indoor gardens with artificial waterfalls and ponds, al fresco tables and chairs and a mini bridge exhibit an unmatched beauty. The Ultimate Guide To Seminyak, Bali: Everything You Need To Know

Seminyak, Bali is one of the top destinations for holidaymakers on the island. This is because it has a great reputation for being fun and friendly.

It’s an upscale resort destination with a focus on shopping, partying and chilling on Seminyak Beach and it attracts a mainly young and trendy crowd.

There are luxury resorts and villas galore and even some options for those on tighter budgets. Here’s everything you need to know before you plan a holiday in Seminyak.

Where Is Seminyak?

SEMINYAK FINNS BALI MAP

Seminyak is on the west coast of the Southern part of Bali. It’s just to the North of Kuta and Legian the two most popular destinations in Bali.

It’s very much a beach town and its best-known beach is Seminyak Beach .

How Do I Get To Seminyak?

There’s only one airport in Bali, the Ngurah Rai International Airport so you’ll need to fly in there. (Note: The airport is also sometimes called Denpasar International Airport but it’s the same airport).

Flights come to Bali from international and domestic destinations and you may need to change flights depending on where you are travelling from.

Then you can take a taxi or to your hotel. Many of the better hotels in Seminyak also offer a hotel shuttle service (sometimes free or sometimes paid) and it’s worth checking on this when you book as it can be the best way to get to where you need to be.

It is possible to take a bus from Jakarta to Bali, believe it or not, but it’s a very long journey and you can expect to spend over 24 hours on board (and that’s assuming everything goes perfectly on the journey).

You can also arrive in Bali, as many do every day, on a cruise from somewhere else like Singapore or Sumatra.

Which Other Areas Of Bali Is Seminyak Close To?

Bali is a big island but it’s not that big and most places are not that far away. However, Kuta, Legian and Canggu are the closest areas to Seminyak.

The first two biggest tourist draws on the island and for a long time, Seminyak was nothing but a sleepy village in the shadow of its southern neighbours.

Now, however, Seminyak has come on leaps and bounds and is nearly as busy and vibrant as the two towns to the South. It’s worth noting though that Seminyak Beach is still much less packed than Kuta Beach .

When Is The Best Time To Visit Seminyak?

Seminyak Beach

Seminyak is popular and fun all year round and there’s really not a bad time to come to Seminyak.

However, the busiest time in this area is Christmas and New Year and if you’re looking for a deal on a hotel room or a private villa with a private pool, you won’t get it at this time of year.

May to September sees a fairly dry heat settle over Bali and if that’s not your cup of tea, you should pick a different time of year to travel to Seminyak.

The rainy season sets in from October to April but don’t worry, even if you come then, there’ll be plenty of time to lie out in the sun on Seminyak Beach. It rarely rains for a long period of time.

There is no equivalent of “Winter” in the tropics, so the weather stays warm to hot all year round and the sun absolutely loves Bali and is out almost every day of the year for, at least, some of the day.

What Should I Do Before I Come To Seminyak?

If you want to have the best time in Seminyak we’d recommend doing these things before you arrive:

Book your flights in and out of the country and ensure your proposed stay in Bali is in line with the visa you will be using

Arrange a visa (if you need one – most visitors on holiday won’t need to do this)

Book your accommodation – this is particularly true if you’re coming during the peak season , the last thing you need after a long flight, is a long trek around hotels and resorts to be told they have no room at the inn

Change some money into Indonesian Rupiah – you don’t have to bring a lot. You can use the ATMs to withdraw more or a money changer to change up cash from home, but life is easier if you have a little cash on you when you arrive to pay for a taxi and to tip your busboy in the hotel.

If your hotel offers a pick-up service make sure to book it – yes, this can cost a little more than a taxi (though sometimes it’s a perk of your stay in Seminyak) but it’s usually way more convenient and there will be somebody waiting for you as you get off the plane

Make sure you have copies of all your important documents – we like to photograph everything and store them on our smartphones as well as keep a hard copy. It’s much easier to replace a lost passport or find out where your hotel is if you have copies of the important stuff.

And that’s about it. You don’t need to go overboard when preparing for a trip to Bali , the truth is that most holidays to Seminyak are blissfully uneventful except for good times and fun. But it can’t hurt to be prepared, either.

What Should I Do When I Arrive In Seminyak?

Assuming that you’ve booked your Seminyak hotel and you’re not looking to stay for a very long time in Bali (if you are – you should see our guide to phones in Bali as you may need to register your phone with the authorities) – you just need to get a taxi or the hotel transport to your hotel.

Then, we strongly recommend that you buy a SIM card before you do anything else as it makes it super easy to access all the local app-based services as well as reducing your call and data costs when compared to using your home network.

After that, it should all be about having fun in Seminyak and doing the things that you came to do.

What’s The Vibe Of Seminyak?

seminyak aerial view

Seminyak is an upscale beach town. It’s the sort of place to rent a private villa or stay in a luxury resort , chill out by the swimming pool or on the beach during the day, enjoy spa treatments and watersports, and then go out in the evening for fine dining and great nightlife.

It’s not the kind of place that you visit for culture and quiet, however. Seminyak really serves as an upmarket destination for young, hip partygoers who want something a little more refined than the nightlife in Kuta and Legian.

Is It A Family-Friendly Destination?

Yes! Seminyak is very much a family-friendly destination (assuming you’re not going to spend your evenings around the nightlife district).

Many families stay in Seminyak’s Private Villas or glitzy resorts and have a great time of things. Most of the family-friendly hotels have kids club facilities to help you get a better life balance from your time in Seminyak on holiday.

And almost every place to stay will have a fantastic outdoor swimming pool to enjoy.

Is Seminyak Safe?

1a9fedf9 215d 4bed 8434 051f31ecdb1b

Yes! Seminyak Village is, like the rest of Bali, a safe place to spend your holidays. Now, that doesn’t mean that you can throw caution to the wind and do stupid things that you wouldn’t do at home.

There are opportunistic thieves around and you do need to take care of your personal belongings and not do anything daft like wave large sums of money around in plain view of everyone.

It’s also a party destination and as with all party destinations, there’s a certain unsavoury element that can come out at night. If you’re on your own, you should always seek to take a taxi rather than walk around late at night in Seminyak Village.

However, as we always stress, most people’s Seminyak holidays are completely crime-free and just involve having fun on and around the Seminyak Beach area.

How Do I Get Around Seminyak?

Seminyak isn’t that hard to get around though the traffic can get pretty hectic at times and you have several options for transport.

We don’t recommend flagging down taxis in the streets of Bali. Unfortunately, as with almost all major tourist destinations in the world, many of the taxi drivers are con artists.

You may find that the meter suddenly starts going up at an incredible rate or that you get to your destination and they demand more cash than you had agreed, or even that they take you on a huge detour and try to get you to ditch your hotel for a friend’s place.

If you must flag a taxi then Blue Bird Taxis are the most trusted brand of taxis in Seminyak.

However, we do recommend downloading and installing the two local Uber equivalents – Gojek and Grab.

These services are the easiest and safest way to book a taxi.

You will know what you’re paying before you get in the car and if you hook up your card to the app, you don’t even need to pay in cash (though if you are paying in cash, make sure to take the right amount, drivers rarely have change) and can even leave a non-cash tip.

If you are not an experienced bike rider, learning to use a scooter in Seminyak is a bad idea.

In fact, it’s probably a bad idea for two reasons 1.) if you haven’t ridden before you probably don’t have a motorbike endorsement on your International Driver’s Permit and thus, it’s illegal to ride one and 2.) Seminyak traffic can be really dangerous and accidents are very common.

It’s also worth noting that if you’re not driving legally, you’re not insured. If you have an accident you will be paying a huge hospital bill in Seminyak with your holiday money.

However, if you do want to rent a scooter, you can easily rent one in Seminyak and it’s a very cost-effective way of getting around the island under your own steam.

Just please, wear a helmet and drive safely. Don’t become a statistic on Bali’s roads.

The best way to rent a car in Bali is to rent a car with a driver, this costs very little over the price of a car and ensures that you don’t have to deal with Bali’s traffic .

You should be able to arrange this in advance, at the airport, through your hotel or at any of the car rental locations in Bali.

You must have a valid International Driver’s Permit if you want to drive a car in Bali and you must be 21 years old to rent a car.

Rent A Bicycle

Cycling is definitely a healthy way to get around most places, but the Bali traffic makes us nervous about seeing Seminyak under our own steam.

You can rent bicycles in Seminyak very easily and they’re not expensive. Just make sure to wear a helmet if you do opt for this mode of transport and you might want to wear an N-95 face mask too to save you from the worst of the exhaust fumes.

Walking & How To Cross The Road Safely in Seminyak

Walking is a great option in Seminyak particularly as so much of this beach town is within walking distance.

However, you do need to learn to cross the road safely and the traffic here can be very intimidating until you’re used to it.

The trick is to walk slowly into the stream of traffic with your hand raised in a “stop, please” fashion. Then, you must commit to walking forward.

You don’t run, and you never step backwards. Everything on the road will see you and judge their speed to anticipate your movement. Nobody will blow their horn at you or throw a fit of road rage, either.

What’s A Typical Day Like In Seminyak When You’re On Holiday?

Everyone’s holiday needs are different so there’s no truly “typical day” but we suspect that a lot of visitors will follow this kind of pattern:

Have breakfast – Seminyak has some lovely coffee shops and cades for this, though if your hotel provides breakfast, you should probably check that out.

Hit the swimming pool – there’s something really nice about a dip in your hotel swimming pool and doubly so if you’re staying in a private pool villa.

Have lunch – a local warung ( Indonesian restaurant ) is probably your best bet. These places serve tasty food, that’s great value for money and cold Bintang to wash it down with.

Hit the beach – now it’s time for some surfing, sunbathing and sand.

Dinner reservations – Many of Seminyak’s awesome fine dining restaurants require reservations. Make sure to book and then enjoy some amazing food.

Go clubbing – and a night in Seminyak really isn’t complete until you have had a few cocktails and a dance in one of the island’s hippest clubs.

What Should I Wear In Seminyak, Bali?

Seminyak as with all of Bali is reasonably conservative and you should always dress appropriately in temples, government buildings, etc.

But mainly, it’s fine to grab your thongs, slip into some shorts and wander around the town in a civilized fashion.

On the beach, all you need are shorts/trunks or a bikini. If you have a private pool you may not even need to wear that much.

Be warned though, during the wet season , if you’re leaving the road and beaches, a lot of surfaces can get very slippery and/or muddy. You may want something a bit more substantial than thongs on your feet in that case.

What Are Some Hotels & Resorts In Seminyak?

seminyak resort

Seminyak is home to some wonderful luxury resorts and hotels. There are mid-range and budget options in this part of the island but Seminyak’s not the best place to look for cheap accommodation in Bali (or cheap anything for that matter).

Some of the best resorts and hotels in Seminyak, Bali include:

Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach

Alila Seminyak

The Legian Seminyak, Bali

The Colony Hotel

Anantara Seminyak Resort

Amadea Resort & Villas

The Dipan Resort

Montigo Resorts Seminyak

The Breezes Bali Resort & Spa

Can You Rent A Private Villa In Seminyak?

Yes, very much so. If you want a private pool or just somewhere to chill out with your friends and/or family in privacy and away from the crows then private villas are a very good idea.

Top choices for private villas in Seminyak include:

Sahana Villas

Abaca Villa Elegancia Bali

Hiburan Villas

Sini Sie Villa

The Cotton House

Villa Atas Ombak

Villa Massilia

NoKu Beach House

Note: Be careful when booking private villas, sometimes they’re not quite as advertised and it can completely spoil your holiday if you turn up at the time when the private pool is under maintenance. Make sure to use a local travel agent such as Bali Res Centre to book.

About Seminyak Beach And Seminyak’s Beaches

Seminyak Beach

Seminyak is a beach resort and it has plenty of beaches for you to choose from.

Of course, the most famous beach is the one the village gets its name from – Seminyak Beach.

Seminyak Beach is the most fashionable place to spend time on a beach in Bali. It’s hope to plenty of high-end resorts, boutique stores and beautiful dining locations.

In addition to Seminyak Beach you’ll also find:

Double Six Beach – This beach has plenty of bars and restaurants running along the front and it’s never usually that crowded. It’s very popular with surfers.

Legian Beach – part of Legian Beach runs into Seminyak. It’s very busy and a popular place for watersports. The white sands are lovely and the sunsets here are spectacular.

Petitenget Beach – This more private and secluded beach is very popular with couples on honeymoon or seeking a romantic break away from the crowds. Pura Petitenget Seminyak Beach is our favourite spot in Seminyak.

Kayu Aya Beach – This is a much less popular beach but it’s still worth a visit. They have solid surfing options and it’s a great place for a swim too.

And because Bali’s not that big, you’re not that far from a host of other beaches if you want to see more of the island.

Surfing

While Uluwatu tends to be the biggest draw for surfers on the island, Seminyak is a great place to learn to surf or enjoy some gentler waves as you adapt to the local conditions.

You can easily arrange surf lessons if you’ve never surfed before and board hire is cheap and easy too.

Bali has a good reputation for hire services too, it’s not like Thailand and there’s not much chance of getting ripped off for surf gear.

However, in peak season, you may find it’s not so easy to find a surf school with any spare slots.

If you want to make surfing a part of your holiday, we suggest contacting the Bali Res Centre and booking lessons in advance. They can also help book other activities such as scuba diving, cooking classes , etc.

Scuba Diving (And Helmet Diving)

Scuba Diving

It’s easy to get a snorkel and enjoy some nice views of the local marine life on Seminyak Beach but if you want a much more enjoyable experience among the reefs and fishes, we’d recommend doing a scuba day trip.

In fact, if you’re going to be in Seminyak for a while, you might even consider taking a PADI-certified course to become a certified diver.

If you don’t want to scuba dive or if you just can’t deal with your hair getting wet – you can opt for a helmet diving session instead.

They put a big helmet on your head, it’s super easy to breathe in and you can even take a walk along the seabed in it.

The best diving trips from Seminyak will call in at the USAT Liberty Wreck in Tulamben Bay and the Padangbai Blue Lagoon.

Yoga 108

We know, normally people go to Ubud for yoga and meditation but if you want to do yoga in Seminyak there are plenty of yoga studios for you to attend and the yoga’s as good as it is in Ubud.

Try any of the following:

Blooming Lotus Yoga

Pondok Yoga Bali

Olop Yoga Studio

Cooking Classes

Cooking Classes

We’ve got a list of all the best cooking classes in Bali on this site and it’s definitely something you can do in Seminyak.

A typical cooking class here will involve getting up a little early and visiting a local market with a locally trained chef.

They will help you pick out the choicest of ingredients and ensure they’re fresh and awesome before you learn to make tasty Balinese dishes.

You can learn to make satay, nasi goreng, gado gado and much more. And of course, once you’ve made the food, you can eat it and enjoy it.

We like that cooking classes give us an insight into Balinese culture and some new skills to take home from Seminyak.

Love the thought of eating fantastic Balinese food but you’re not so keen on cooking it? Well, you can always take a local food tour and skip the step where you cook anything.

Talk to Bali Res Centre about arranging a food tour that takes you to all the places that the locals love to eat.

Or if you’re in the mood for luxury eating, you could design your own food tour based on the ridiculous number of wonderful fine dining options in Seminyak.

Work On Your Fitness

Bali Fitness Seminyak

People don’t stay looking amazing in Seminyak for very long if they party all night and don’t work out during the day.

Seminyak has some excellent gym options and many of the resorts and hotels have private gyms for their guests too.

If you want to work out in Seminyak you can try:

Don’t Miss Petitenget Temple

Miss Petitenget Temple 1

Petitenget Temple is a locals-only affair. It’s hidden away near Petitenget Beach and it’s a really attractive and interesting place to spend some time.

Be aware that as with all temples in Bali , you may not enter the inner sanctum, this is reserved exclusively for Hindu practitioners who want to pray here.

Nearby, you’ll also find the Pura Masceti shrine where locals make offerings to the gods to ask them to deliver a bountiful harvest.

If you go on a Hindu holiday, you will probably find locals dressed up and having fun at the temple.

Given that most visitors to Seminyak rarely stray beyond Seminyak Beach a visit to this temple will mark you out as a real traveller, not just a tourist.

Where To Go For Coffee In Seminyak?

Revolver Cafe Seminyak

Art isn’t cheap in Seminyak, Bali but it’s very reasonably priced when compared to the international art scene.

You will often find that art galleries offer affordable souvenirs if you’re not in the market for a new wall hanging.

Other Great Shopping Spots In Seminyak

You could also visit Seminyak Square which is a lovely location again stuffed with local chic boutique stores that really elevate the Balinese shopping experience . Seminyak Square is a popular choice with those in the know.

We also think that a trip to Seminyak Square can be a great part of a holiday as you can get some super Instagram shots there.

For those looking for a more budget-friendly experience, Seminyak Market is within a short walking distance of most places in town and you can pick up some cheap souvenirs easily there. Taman Sari Market is also a local market destination.

And for all your grocery needs, check out Bintang supermarket which is very popular with locals and expats alike.

What’s The Nightlife Like In Seminyak?

If there’s one reason above all that holidaymakers choose Seminyak, Bali, it’s the nightlife and that’s because it’s varied and awesome.

The scene here is very much full of young, attractive people in designer clothing looking their very best and having a great time as they do it.

Everyone is welcome, of course, as long as you’re old enough to drink alcohol (and you may be asked for ID to make sure) but it might not be your scene if you’re 50 and looking to recapture your misspent youth.

Great Day Trips From Seminyak

party at finns beach club nye

Staying in Seminyak doesn’t mean that you have to limit yourself to Seminyak for all your time in Bali. In fact, there are plenty of great options for day trips that you can organize yourself or let the Bali Res Centre organize for you.

FINNS Beach Club – Why not take a day to visit Canggu and the world’s best beach club? You may be sorry that you didn’t stay in Canggu after you do. With 9 bars, 3 restaurants, regular live events and more entertainment than you can shake a stick at, FINNS is one of the most memorable experiences you can have in Bali. What could be better than a sundowner at FINNS getting ready to dance the night away with new friends?

Mount Batur – If you’ve never stood on the slopes of an active volcano, this could be your best chance to do so and don’t worry, it’s not dangerous (nor is it very difficult to climb unlike Mount Agung ). You’ll get some spectacular shots for your Instagram though and have a wonderful story to tell your friends when you get home.

Nungnug Waterfall – Bali has so many spectacular waterfalls that it’s hard to keep track of them all. Nungnug Waterfall has the advantage that it’s relatively close to Seminyak and is considered to be one of the most spectacular to look at. Instagrammers are going to live it here and the shots you get will be dramatic and awe-inspiring.

Jatiluwih Rice Terraces – The beauty of rice terraces simply cannot be overstated. There’s something soothing about watching the green lines fade away into infinity among the local hills and valleys. You also get to learn a little about the local culture when you visit, a win-win as it were.

Nusa Lembongan – if you just want a day or two on a small island with some spectacular views and amazing snorkelling opportunities. Nusa Lembongan’s a great place to go and it won’t take long to get there by boat.

Uluwatu & Jimbaran – Fire dancing, temples and great surfing should make for an appealing day trip for everyone. This is a great part of the island to see.

Ubud – OK, you might need more than a day but if you want to see some of the cultural highlights of Bali, Ubud’s the place to go.

Tips On Getting The Most Out Of A Stay In Seminyak

If you want some helpful hints on how to get the most out of your time in this vibrant part of Bali, we’ve got some help for you:

Stay away from tap water – unless you want to endure a chunk of your holiday glued to the loo with Bali Belly , it’s best to use bottled water for everything. Yes, even for brushing your teeth.

Use taxi apps in preference to taxis – it is much, much easier to get a fair price and to avoid being cheated at the end of your journey if everything has been agreed online first. However, if you must use a taxi Blue Bird is the most reputable company in Seminyak.

Negotiate at currency exchange stalls – we don’t mean in the bank, but we do mean at every less formal currency exchange place. They have some wiggle room, and the more you change, the more they can wiggle.

Haggle in local stores and markets – you can’t haggle for your groceries or in a fast food joint but you can haggle in markets and even some boutique stores. Haggling is meant to be fun.

Take your own shopping bags – some tradespeople love to tack on a large fee for a plastic bag at the end of the purchase.

Get a local SIM card – Wi-Fi is plentiful in Seminyak and it’s mostly free but it never hurts to have a backup plan. It’s easy to get a local SIM card and it makes life so much easier.

Watch your feet – we’re not saying you’re clumsy here, we’re saying that Bali’s street surfaces can be the stuff of nightmares. It’s really easy to go flying over your feet if you’re not watching where you walk.

Stay safe at night – Seminyak is not especially dangerous but female and solo travellers, in particular, should still exercise precautions at night when travelling. It’s better to take a taxi with an app than it is to walk late at night in Seminyak.

Never leave belongings unattended – the most popular crimes in Bali, like everywhere else, are those of opportunity. Smart people don’t leave their bags lying around the beach or in a restaurant without anyone keeping an eye on them.

Don’t flash your cash – Bali is becoming less of a cash economy at the moment but for now, cash remains king. It’s OK to have cash, but it’s a bad idea to wave it around in public. You might as well ask the local pickpockets to rob you.

Why Is Seminyak So Popular?

Seminyak is an upscale venue for partying , eating out and shopping until you drop.

It’s got a cool, hip vibe that plays very well to a certain crowd and though it’s more expensive than some other areas, you do tend to get what you pay for.

And let’s not forget the awesome beaches, spas, cafes, and nightlife. There’s a lot to like about Seminyak.

Is Seminyak A Good Area In Bali?

We like to think that all of Bali is a good area because it pretty much is. Particularly, areas that are popular with tourists and visitors.

However, Seminyak is considered to be one of the nicer parts of the island’s thriving tourist scene.

You should be aware that there is petty crime in Seminyak and it’s worth taking basic precautions to ensure your safety and the safety of your belongings.

Having said that, the vast majority of visits to Seminyak are trouble-free.

Which Is Better Kuta or Seminyak?

It very much depends on what you’re looking for from an area. Kuta and Legian (its neighbour) are the most popular tourist destinations in Bali . They have great nightlife and a young, trendy vibe.

However, they can be very crowded, indeed, particularly at peak times and though they have some luxury facilities, they are not considered to be upscale parts of the island.

Seminyak is the place that people go after their budget grows a bit but they still want the party-style vibe of somewhere like Kuta. There’s more emphasis on luxury, fine dining and great cocktails in Seminyak.

If you love to go shopping Seminyak is usually considered to be the best part of the island for boutique stores.

Which Is Better Ubud Or Seminyak?

This is a bit like comparing chalk and cheese. Ubud and Seminyak are very different places, indeed.

Ubud is the spiritual heart of Bali and it’s not a beach destination. It has no beach clubs . It has a lush green jungle and fertile rice paddies. People tend to go to Ubud to relax, to meditate and to focus on wellness.

They visit temples and Ubud’s famous Ganesha Bookshop and enjoy the cooler temperatures there. Ubud is a place to visit if you want to explore Indonesian culture.

Seminyak, on the other hand, is a party and beach destination. You go to lie on the white sands of Seminyak Beach during the day, possibly while sinking cold ones and cocktails.

Then, at night, you go out and hit the active and vibrant clubbing scene, it’s one of Bali’s hippest nightspots. You might enjoy a spa treatment or two in Seminyak but it’s unlikely to be the primary reason for visiting the area.

Seminyak also has an excess of world-class restaurants and trendy beach clubs.

Is Seminyak Very Crowded?

Yes. It’s not as crowded as Kuta, particularly the Kuta Beach area but it’s crowded all the same.

Traffic is very busy and you need to allow extra time for travel time while going through Seminyak.

However, it’s worth noting that the crowds are a testament to Seminyak’s popularity as a destination. People really do love Seminyak Beach and the surrounding areas.

What Is Seminyak Bali Best Known For?

Nightlife, shopping, Seminyak Beach and spas. Seminyak isn’t usually considered to be a cultural destination, it’s a place you go to let your hair down and party with friends (both old and new).

Is Seminyak Worth Visiting?

Yes, we think so. Thought a lot depends on the kind of holiday you’re looking for.

If you’re a retired couple hoping for serenity and long walks on the beach and to avoid the crowds? Seminyak’s not going to be your top choice.

If, on the other hand, you’re young, you love to party and want to be seen among the trendiest people, Seminyak is going to be great for your Bali holiday.

How Many Days Do You Need In Seminyak?

It depends. Many people spend their entire holiday in Seminyak. They’re content to eat great food, lounge on the beach and party every night.

But we think that might get boring after a while and you probably only need 3 or 4 days to appreciate Seminyak’s charms and experience its shopping before you can move on to another part of Bali.

Is Seminyak Expensive?

Seminyak is not the most expensive part of Bali but nor is it the cheapest. It’s an upscale destination and it’s certainly more expensive than Kuta and Legian.

Only you can really decide whether you think Seminyak costs a fortune or whether it represents great value for money.

What’s The Best Way To Book A Holiday In Seminyak?

We always recommend our friends at the Bali Res Centre . They are a locally based travel service that can help you find exactly what you’re looking for to enjoy the perfect stay in Seminyak or Bali for a while.

They can also provide the most up-to-date information on what’s going on. You might not want to stay in that Seminyak Beach Villa if you find out that there’s a building site just opened next door.

Finally, because they’re local, they can often get the best deals on accommodation. That can save you a lot of money on your Seminyak holiday.

Final Thoughts On Seminyak, Seminyak Beach And More

Seminyak, Bali is one of the most popular destinations on the island and that’s mainly for its reputation for great shopping, amazing nightlife and super spa and leisure options.

It’s probably not for everyone but for the young, hip and trendy it’s going to provide some amazing opportunities to have fun on holiday in a wonderful upscale environment.

Rent a private pool villa with some friends and you’ll find that you’re always in the mood for another party in Seminyak.
