On Guru Purnima, Govardhan Puja is performed by walking barefoot 23 km around the mountain.

A revered and sacred bathing place, around 5 km from Mathura, Vishram Ghat is set on the banks of River Yamuna. It is one of the top tourist places near Mathura within 100 km, where pilgrims from around the country visit to bathe and perform traditional parikrama. In Hindi, Vishram means rest. Hence, it is named Vishram Ghat, as Lord Krishna rested at this spot after killing his maternal uncle Kans, the demon king. Twelve ghats are located to the north of Vishram Ghat and 12 ghats to the south, putting this ghat in the middle. Thus, a pilgrimage to Mathura can only be completed with a visit to this ghat and the temples around it.
