The followers of the Vaishnava sect that Mahaprabhu started manages the Dwarkadhish Temple. It is also a hub of many activities all year, especially during Shravan. This is when the idol is placed inside a swing set called Hindola.

Government Museum, Mathura

Initially, the Government Museum was called the Curzon Museum of Archaeology. Locally, people also called it Mathura Museum. It also has a history that mentions that Lord Krishna lifted this hill during his childhood on one finger to save the people of his village from fierce rains and thunderstorms. On Guru Purnima, Govardhan Puja is performed by walking barefoot 23 km around the mountain.

• Vishram Ghat

A revered and sacred bathing place, around 5 km from Mathura, Vishram Ghat is set on the banks of River Yamuna. It is one of the top tourist places near Mathura within 100 km, where pilgrims from around the country visit to bathe and perform traditional parikrama. In Hindi, Vishram means rest. Hence, it is named Vishram Ghat, as Lord Krishna rested at this spot after killing his maternal uncle Kans, the demon king. Twelve ghats are located to the north of Vishram Ghat and 12 ghats to the south, putting this ghat in the middle. Thus, a pilgrimage to Mathura can only be completed with a visit to this ghat and the temples around it.

• Kusum Sarovar

One of the tourist attractions in Mathura, Kusum Sarovar, is between Govardhan and Radha Kund. It is a lovely reservoir encircled by palatial sandstone buildings from ancient times. It has a flight of stairs that pilgrims use to descend to the pond. It is said that Radha came to this spot to collect flowers with her friends and meet Lord Krishna. He would collect flowers to make garlands for Radha Rani here. You can dip in the pond’s emerald-green waters and visit the nearby temples and ashrams. There are paintings in the surrounding structures of the lake that depict Krishna’s life.

Approx. 50 km from Mathura is Nandgaon, a quiet little town with immense religious importance. Nand was the name of Lord Krishna’s foster father, and Yashoka Maiyya was His foster mother. The village is named after His father, who was the head of the village. There is a spacious temple on a hill in Nandgaon dedicated to Shri Nandji. Among other attractions, many temples are dedicated to Yashoda Nandan, Nand Nandan, Nritya Gopal, Udhav Kyaro, Gopinath, and more. Pan Sarovar is a lake in Nandgaon that is quite peaceful.

Kans Qila, Mathura

1. kokilavan, mathura.

Kokilavan, situated near Kosi Kalan in Mathura, houses the famous Shani Temple, dedicated to Shani Dev (Saturn) and his guru Barkhandi Baba. Since the site is located amidst the jungle hence, it has also come to be known as Kokilavan Dham. The pilgrims perform a parikrama of the temple and take a dip in the holy kund here.

Located at a distance of 8 km from Barsana and 50 km from Mathura, Nandgaon is a quaint little town situated at the base of a Nandisvara Hill and which holds immense religious significance. Govardhan Hill or the Giri Raj is situated at a distance of 22 km from Vrindavan. Located between Govardhan and Radha Kund in Vrindavan, Mathura, Kusum Sarovar is a beautiful reservoir fringed by palatial sandstone building from the bygone era. The reservoir has a flight of stairs which can be used to descend in the pond. The sarovar is believed to have got its name from one of the girl attendants of Radha, named Kusum.
