2018 Venture SportTrek Touring Edition 336VRK Review

Nine floorplans are available in the Venture SportTrek Touring Edition line. The STT336VRK offers couples a trailer with a genuine residential feel with its high-end exterior and interior features. It has an unloaded vehicle weight of 8,570 lbs and a Gross Vehicle Weight rating of 9,995 lbs. It measures 11’4” in height with the air conditioning unit, 37’8” long, and 96” wide. The fresh water tank has a capacity of 40 gallons, the gray water tank holds 64 gallons, and the black water tank can hold 32 gallons.

A painted front cap has LED hitch lighting and integrated rock guard paint for a seamless look.

There are two awnings (15 ‘ and 10’ 4”) with multidirectional LED lights to keep bugs away from the entrance. A thoughtful feature on the larger awning is it’s self-dumping mechanism to collect and dump water. The shorter awning is over one of the STT3326VRK’s standout features: an outdoor kitchen, or what Venture calls the Campfire Café. It comprises a three-cubic foot refrigerator, sink with hot and cold water, two-burner cooktop, cabinets for outdoor dishes, and electrical outlet for a small appliance. You’ll also find a propane hook-up for outdoor grilling. The entire area is covered by the awning to keep you dry and in the shade. Two outdoor speakers mean you can add your own music to your outdoor experience via Bluetooth.

The trailer’s pass-through storage is LED-lit with magnetic latch doors, and there’s also an outside shower with hot/cold water.

Inside the trailer, you have a choice between two different décor palettes. To your left upon entering is the spacious living area. A slide on each side really open up the space. One of the slides houses the entertainment center. Cabinet doors are built with hand glazed hardwood and upgraded modern handles. A full row of cabinets along the top of the unit give you plenty of space for games, books, blankets and whatever else you need for a cozy evening inside. At seated eye-height, there’s a flat screen television as well as a Bluetooth CD/DVD/AM/FM stereo. Underneath the television is a 26” fireplace, one of two in the trailer. Not only does the fireplace provide a lovely atmosphere, it also puts out a lot of heat, so if you are using free electric at your campsite, you’ll be able to save a bundle on heating costs in the cooler months. One of the trailer’s two fireplaces can be operated via remote control.

Directly facing the television in the opposite slide are two wide, fully reclining theater-style seats with cup holders and windows on all three sides. To the left of the theater seats is a tri-fold sofa bed, creating a nice conversation space.

Move to the back of the trailer and you’ll find the kitchen. A freestanding table and four chairs gives the space a more residential look than a dinette booth. Windows along the side and back of the dining area allow for lots of natural light and a great view to your campsite. Solid surface countertop and sink cover adds to the upscale look and the U-shape gives you a very big, user-friendly and efficient meal prep area. A double undermount stainless steel sink and high rise pull-down kitchen faucet make clean-up so much simpler. For cooking, you have a three-burner high output range with glass cover and a 17” oven. Above the cooktop, there’s a range hood with light and fan, and a microwave. Right next to the cooktop and oven is the eight-cubic foot refrigerator/freezer, along with a full-height pantry with and upper cabinets that gives you plenty of storage space for all your dry goods and dishes. There’s more storage under the sink for your cleaning supplies, as well as a bank of drawers to keep your utensils and cutlery organized.

The trailer’s bathroom has two entrances: one from the main area, and the other from the bedroom. As well as a porcelain foot-flush toilet, radius magnetic latch glass shower doors and skylight, there’s also a generously sized linen closet, a cabinet over the toilet, and a mirrored medicine cabinet.

You’ll find the bedroom at the very front of the trailer. It boasts a king-size bed in the slideout, with plenty of walking space at the foot of the bed. A comfy padded leather headboard is a nice touch and each side of the bed has a small overhead corner shelf with an electrical outlet. There’s also a full stretch of cabinets overhead. The bed does lift up with struts, giving you access to a very large storage area underneath. Along the front inside end of the trailer you’ll find a full wall of cabinetry, including two wardrobes, drawers as well as the trailer’s second fireplace. Again, like the first one, this warms the bedroom right up on chilly nights. At the foot of the bed is a window with a cabinet underneath, as well as television and satellite hook-up so you can turn your bedroom into exactly the retreat you want at the end of a day of adventuring.

SportTrek Touring Edition STT343VIB

A new luxury travel trailer from Venture RV features a multipurpose room.

Travel trailers offer many options for sleeping, socializing, and enjoying the sights. Venture RV, a division of KZ Recreational Vehicles, answers the need for luxury travel trailers with its SportTrek Touring Edition model.

The rear bunkhouse in the STT343VIB can be set up as a study area or an office.

The SportTrek Touring Edition comes in nine floor plans for 2021, including the new STT343VIB. This three-slideout model includes a multipurpose area in the rear that can be configured for various uses: a four-person bunkhouse, a “pet palace,” a king-size bed, a king-size bed with two bunks, or an office/classroom/craft room with an oversized desk and two bunks.

The STT343VIB will especially appeal to RVing families with children, whether they’re regularly homeschooled on the road or are currently learning remotely because of COVID-19. During the day, the bunk system converts to a study area. Of course, adult RVers who work remotely can utilize this room as a home office.

Another compelling feature of this family-friendly layout: It can sleep up to 10.

Construction And Exterior

The SportTrek Touring Edition incorporates a huck-bolted frame, 2-inch-by-3-inch floor joists, and 5/8-inch tongue-and-groove plywood floor decking. The sidewalls are aluminum-framed, with decorative luan wallboard added. The 4½-inch roof trusses are set 16 inches on center. Polystyrene insulation with an R-7 rating is used in the sidewalls, and Darco corrugated material creates a moisture barrier in the RV’s underbelly. Slideouts are triple-sealed.

The STT343VIB comes standard with the Campfire Café exterior kitchen.

Venture RV’s Weather-Shield package helps to extend the camping season with 360-degree residential fiberglass insulation and radiant-foil insulation; radiant-foil-wrapped holding tanks; an enclosed underbelly heated by forced air; and enclosed gate valves. In addition, the roof is covered with a reflective PVC membrane.

The unit features an upgraded graphics package. The painted fiberglass front cap comes with an integrated LED light. A panoramic automotive-style window in the cap is tinted, as are the frameless windows all around.

The SportTrek Touring Edition incorporates four power stabilizer jacks, each with its own motor, along with heavy-duty leaf springs and EZ Lube axles. Other features include a detachable power cord, a lighted power tongue jack, and a 2-inch accessory hitch integrated into the frame. Two 30-pound propane cylinders are concealed underneath a flip-up access lid. The 6-gallon gas-electric water heater comes with direct-spark ignition.

This model can be outfitted with Venture RV’s optional LevelMate PRO, a wireless system that calculates the correct height needed to level the unit. It indicates where to make adjustments via arrows displayed on a smartphone or tablet. When an indicator light turns from red to green, that signifies the RV is level.

The modern farmhouse décor blends rustic and contemporary touches.

The 2021 models now include the iRV control panel and app, which enables RVers to operate awnings and lights, check tank levels, and handle many more functions from a monitor or smartphone.

The RV is prepped for a 100-watt solar panel and controller and for a backup camera. Available options include an Off-the Grid package, a second air conditioner, and eight others.

The STT343VIB includes the cleverly named Campfire Café, an exterior kitchen with a pull-out cooktop, a refrigerator, and a sink with hot and cold water. Generous cabinet and drawer storage is provided as well.

RV chefs can do their thing while others relax under the adjacent 10-foot-4-inch lighted power awning that shades the slideout area. (A 12-foot awning next to it shields the front entry.) A bottle opener/outdoor pet tie-down and an outside shower with hot and cold water are also provided.

The dinette provides generous storage under its seats.

Large radiused baggage doors feature slam latches and magnetic catches; a pass-through storage area is accessible up front. Other conveniences include the friction-hinge entry door, which is paired with a screen door that incorporates a Screen Shot automatic closer; this device helps keep pests outside and eliminates those repeated requests to “Shut the screen door!” RVers go inside via flip-up solid entry steps.

Interior Features

The SportTrek Touring Edition features a modern farmhouse design for 2021. This includes a mix of cabinetry — antique white and heirloom maple finishes — along with rustic hardware and barnwood-style backsplash and flooring. RVers will discover Beauflor wood-plank flooring, solid-surface countertops, and designer valances with fabric nightshades. The interior ceiling height is 6 feet 10 inches; 6 feet in the flush-floor slideouts.

USB charging ports and 120-volt outlets are situated throughout. The unit features Bluetooth capability.

Company literature describes the SportTrek Touring’s kitchen as “elegant, yet functional.” Some floor plans, including the STT343VIB, feature a kitchen island. The deep, stainless-steel single-basin sink is located there, accompanied by a single-handle spring-assisted faucet. The island also contains an appliance hutch.

Rear street-side bunks replace the study area.

Stainless-steel appliances include a microwave oven and a three-burner high-output flush-mount stove with glass cover, 21-inch oven, and accent lighting. A 10-cubic-foot double-door refrigerator is standard, and an 8-cubic-foot propane/electric fridge is offered as an option. Adjustable shelves in the pantry help RVers to organize items as they see fit. A hidden Safe-Tek storage box conceals valuables and houses a charging station.

The SportTrek Touring Edition comes with a booth dinette; a stationary table and four chairs are optional.

The living area presents a comfy place to relax and watch the large TV, which measures 40 inches in the STT343VIB, and to stay warm and cozy thanks to one of two 30-inch fireplaces in the RV. The entertainment center offers plentiful storage in cupboards and drawers. Across from it is a 70-inch trifold sofa that converts to a bed.

The STT343VIB’s front master bedroom includes a 60-inch-by-80-inch queen bed fitted in a slideout, across from a dresser with a built-in fireplace. Wardrobes and overhead cabinets provide even more room to stow things. And remember that panoramic front window? A large window seat below it makes for a nice perch with an outside view; even more storage is available underneath. An additional closet is located in the bedroom, off the bathroom wall, and features a washer/dryer hookup.

The front master bedroom incorporates a window seat.

The bath includes a 30-inch-by-36-inch shower, a vanity with a stainless-steel sink, and a porcelain foot-flush toilet.

Let’s return to the rear multi-purpose room mentioned earlier. Two sets of 70-inch-long bunk beds face each other on opposing walls; between them, a cabinet rests against the back wall. The bottom street-side bunk converts to an oversized desk. If more sleeping room is needed, the bunks can be arranged into a king-size bed.

Venture RV uses the slogan “Designed for campers, by campers.” According to Dave Boggs, general manager, the company’s travel trailers reflect input from product managers, engineers, production staff, and sales folks whose families enjoy RVing and actively use the RVs. In fact, the SportTrek Touring Edition STT343VIB is Dave’s brainchild.

Venture RV Sport Trek 320 VIK

The spacious interior layout is complemented with the “VIK” (Venture Island Kitchen), which is perfect for entertaining guests and preparing meals. As an affordable family travel trailer, the Sport Trek comes well-equipped, but there are several options that you may want to consider, including 15” radial tires with aluminum wheels, a flip-up cargo tray, outside grill, and upgraded 15,000 BTU roof A/C unit. There is an optional “Trail Package” that includes spare tire, carrier and cover, a ladder, and black tank flush.

Great Floor Plan

We were particularly impressed with the interior floor plan of this trailer, with an island galley, large slide-out sections, and a walk-through bathroom. The centre section of the Sport Trek 320 VIK is an excellent design, with the 42” “grand dinette” and 82” “Jiffy” sofa in a large slide-out section on the driver’s side of the trailer, and the refrigerator and stove in a slide-out section on the passenger side of the trailer. We liked the panoramic slide-out windows and the very spacious central living room area.

Our test vehicle was equipped with the optional cargo rack. Ideally suited for all-season use, the SportTrek 320 VIK has a Coleman® Whisper air conditioner, and an option to upgrade to a 15,000 BTU unit. With durable construction ideally suited for four-season use, the trailer will provide a comfortable home away from home. In The Bedrooms This trailer features a front master bedroom with queen-size bed, “Sleep Tight” innerspring mattress, and solid wood night tables on either side of the bed. Décor includes a designer padded headboard, and window treatments with valences and night shades. Storage in the master bedroom includes overhead cabinets, a large shirt closet with a builtin shelf, and under-bed storage that is easily accessible thanks to the use of twin struts to lift the mattress platform. There are TV and satellite connections to facilitate the addition of an optional LCD TV in the front bedroom.

The Sport Trek features a front master bedroom with a queen-size bed, “Sleep Tight” innerspring mattress, as well as solid wood night tables. While the master bedroom is similar to many in the RV industry, the rear “bunkhouse” bedroom is quite unique. On the passenger side of the trailer there is a top bunk over the compartment that houses the exterior galley, and the designers have integrated a closet and storage area below the bunk, essentially maximizing the use of space in this area. Across the rear wall of the trailer there is a 74” bed, and the driver’s side of the trailer has a 28” deep slide-out section with a dinette and a 28” x 70” fold-up top bunk. With the slide extended, there is generous floor space where kids can play and enjoy a private area.
