MSC Seaside, which debuted in December 2017, carries up to 5,079 passengers and 1,513 crew members. The ship's staterooms offer between 151 and 1,022 square feet of interior space. Additionally, more than 70% of rooms include private balconies, and some upgraded suites feature whirlpool tubs or connected cabins designed to accommodate up to 10 people. All accommodations come with amenities like LCD TVs, minibars and sitting areas.

Young travelers will find a variety of ways to entertain themselves on board. On top of offering kids and teens clubs, MSC Seaside houses a multistory water park and two full-sized bowling alleys. Meanwhile, adults can head to the theater for Broadway-style performances, sip cocktails while listening to comedy acts or live piano music or savor gourmet chocolates at the Venchi 1878 Chocolate Bar.

For more substantial fare, the ship features nine dining venues, including a steakhouse, a buffet and the seafood-focused Ocean Cay Restaurant. Guests can also sample pan-Asian fare at two venues from award-winning chef Roy Yamaguchi.

MSC Seaside completes sailings around the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and MSC's private island in the Bahamas, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. It also welcomes guests aboard MSC Grand Voyages.

Don’t Believe the Reviews: Why We Loved Our MSC Seaside Bahamas Getaway

In March of 2023, my husband Jim and I set sail on the MSC Seaside from Port Canaveral to The Bahamas on a four-day, three-night cruise. Although we read some negative online reviews on the MSC cruise lines, our cruise was anything but: we were impressed with the quality of service, activities and entertainment!

MSC’s cruise ship, the Seaside, set sail in 2017 and relocated to its new homeport of Port Canaveral in April 2023. Designed exclusively for cruising in the Caribbean, her itineraries include three and four-night Bahamas cruises and seven-night cruises that include Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico, Belize, and Ocean Cay Marine Reserve.

MSC Cruises is a relative newcomer to the North American market. It has broad market appeal across many demographics, from Europeans who love to party until sunrise to American families who love the affordable fares and “kids sail free” pricing.

SheBuysTravel Tip:  Before you embark, check out our full   cruise packing list  so you don’t forget anything you’ll need, and don’t pack anything you won’t!

Port Canaveral Embarkation

Embarkation at Port Canaveral was relatively painless. When you check in online and receive your embarkation documents, you are assigned a time to arrive at Port Canaveral cruise port. Our arrival time was 2 p.m., and we arrived at Port Canaveral at 1:30 p.m. and dropped our luggage off to be loaded onboard the MSC Seaside.

The line for check-in wrapped around the front of the building. We stood outside for approximately 45 minutes and another 30 minutes inside before we reached the check-in counter.

A water station was available outside, which was much appreciated considering the sweltering Florida heat. All of the staff were friendly and smiling.

Once we arrived at the check-in counter, we checked in with our documents and received our sea passes in less than five minutes.

Upon boarding the ship, we were pleasantly surprised that our room was available immediately.

How Big is the MSC Seaside ?

The MSC Seaside is massive, accommodating over 5,000 guests, with 2066 staterooms, 19 decks, a bank of panoramic elevators and an abundance of public spaces so it never feels crowded.

Fun-Filled Days and Nights

Whatever flavor of cruising you desire, MSC has you covered. If you are a foodie, you’ll delight in the culinary creations; if you seek peace, quiet, and relaxation, you can find it; if the active lifestyle beckons you, there is plenty to fill your days and nights.

You can get your adrenaline pumping with an exhilarating zipline adventure or try your hand at Formula 1 virtual reality racing.

For those who thrive when just relaxing, you’ll love the outdoor spaces, where you can soak up the sun, and it is quiet. Or head to the spa for a treatment and take advantage of the thermal area and the sun deck.

The Aurea Spa

Having cruised on several other cruise lines previously, I have to say that the Aurea Spa is unique and fantastic! While the spa is pricier than other cruise lines we’ve taken, it is the standout on the Seaside, with 24 treatment rooms for massages and facials, a hair salon, a nail salon, a tanning booth, and a barbershop.

My personal favorite, the thermal suite, features changing rooms for men and women, thermal heated loungers, dark and light sensory steam rooms, saunas, a salt relaxation room, a thalassotherapy pool, and a cold room with snow.

Aurea Spa’s private sun deck, reserved exclusively for passengers who have booked spa treatments, features lounge chairs and two whirlpools. If you’re looking for something a bit more exclusive, you can rent spa cabanas on the private sun deck, with treatment included.

Unlike Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruise Line, Aurea Spa does not offer in-port day discounts. The cruise line does offer special promotions throughout the cruise and discounts for multiple massage reservations.

Pools and Fun

With four pools, four waterslides, three hot tubs, and a wading pool, there is plenty of fun for everyone! For a family adventure, I’d head to the Jungle Pool, where waterslides, waterpark, the Forest Adventure Park, and the Adventure Trail ropes course await. Adult libations are near by at The Jungle Pool lounge and bar.

The South Beach pool area, located in the aft of the ship on deck 7, is an adults-only pool. Here we found music, fun and friendly couples, and plenty of adult activities at the South Beach bar, Venechi 1878 Creperie and Gelato bar, interactive cinema, Garage Club, arcade, and Formula 1 simulator.

Located on deck 16, you’ll find the Miami Beach pool area on the aft of the ship, and it is the main pool onboard. This area is also where most pool deck events occur during your cruise.

The exclusive Yacht Club class area on the forward of the ship on deck 19 is where you’ll find the Yacht Club pool, sun deck, the Yacht Club Grille, and Bar. Deck 19 is also where you’ll find the Aurea Bar and Top 19 Solarium.

Top Notch Entertainment

The live shows on MSC Seaside rival shows we’ve seen in London’s West End and New York City’s Broadway. We saw three shows during our four-day Bahama cruise. Each show incorporated music, acrobatics, and gymnastics.

Our favorite was Peter Punk, a take on Peter Pan and the Lost Boys, but the other two tribute shows, one to Michael Buble, and one to Michael Jackson, were both excellent. We liked the Micheal Jackson tribute a bit more than the Michael Buble.

You’ll need to make reservations for each show, with showtimes at 7 p.m. or 9 p.m. The acoustics are fantastic, and there is not a bad seat in the theater.

MSC has an app you can download to your phone to make things easy. The app shows all the extras you’ve purchased, and you can make reservations for the theater on the app as well.

Our MSC Seaside cruise made two ports of call, Nassau and Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, MSC’s private island. Having explored Nassau extensively on past trips to The Bahamas, we felt no need to get off the ship. That said, we could tell by looking at the cruise port that it has been improved since our last visit. There are lots of little shops that have popped up.

What we were looking forward to was the visit to Ocean Cay. Ocean Cay is off the coast of Bimini, Bahamas, and is fantastic! Almost like an extension of the ship, you can book massages, dine on the island, hit the shops, or spend the day relaxing on the beach, swimming in the ocean or the lagoon. The choice is yours!

SheBuysTravel Tip:  The Ocean Cay  Lighthouse puts on a late evening laser light show that is stellar! Don’t miss it; head to the outside decks ahead of time to snag your place to watch the light show.

MSC Cruises Staterooms

When booking our Bahamas cruise, we had several cabin choices. The first choice is cabin type: inside cabin, ocean view cabin, balcony cabin, or suite. We chose a balcony stateroom.

Choosing your “Experience Package” is the second choice. With the experience packages, MSC allows guests to choose what amenities are important to them, and you can personalize your cruise with benefits that suit you.

The four experience packages are:

  • Booking Flexibility – comes with a fee
  • Discounted drink package option at the time of booking
  • Earn MSC Voyagers Club Points
  • All the Bella Perks
  • One free change to your booking
  • Choice of early or late dinner seating
  • Choose your cabin and location
  • Complimentary breakfast in your room
  • 20 percent discount on specialty dining packages
  • All the Fantastica perks
  • Flexible My Choice dining that lets you dine at any time you want between the set dining hours
  • Choice of specific balcony cabins and suites in prime locations
  • Complimentary 24-hour room service delivery
  • Welcome gift of Prosecco and chocolates
  • Complimentary access to the ship’s solarium and thermal area
  • Bathrobe, slippers, and a pillow menu in your cabin
  • 40 percent discount on prepaid spa packages and 10 percent off all individual spa packages purchased on board
  • Priority boarding and luggage drop-off

The MSC Yacht Club Experience

This experience is the height of exclusive luxury onboard. It is an authentic, all-inclusive, and outrageous luxury experience.

  • Dedicated priority check-in and check-out
  • 24-hour room service
  • Complimentary access to the Thermal Suite in the Aurea Spa
  • Premium Extra drink package
  • Dedicated 24-hour concierge
  • Premium internet package for two devices
  • Relaxation amenities in each suite
  • Exclusive sun deck with pool, whirlpool, solarium, and bar
  • Gourmet dining in the private MSC Yacht Club restaurant
  • Exclusive Top Sail Lounge access that includes bar, afternoon tea service, and light food selection 20 hours a day

We chose the Aurea experience and a balcony cabin on the 9th deck. Our stateroom was roomy, though the shower in the bathroom was a bit tiny; it was bigger than what we experienced on our previous Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruises. The bed was very comfortable, and the pillow menu was a delightful surprise. However, the standout was the fantastic balcony!

We spent most of our cabin time on the balcony, especially when steaming toward Nassau, Bahamas. Late at night, we would head to our balcony, sit under the stars, and listen to the silence, sipping a glass of wine or a cocktail.

Dining on MSC Seaside

The food onboard is European style and features Italian and Mediterranean-inspired dishes, which we found very appealing. The food was tasty and artfully presented. The portion sizes were not huge; they were satisfying, and we had room for multiple courses.

Both of us love an experience when we are dining out. Onboard, we enjoyed relaxed meals that were not rushed but allowed us to savor the cuisine and linger over our meal, making it an ideal dining experience.

The main dining restaurants on board are Ipanema Restaurant and Seashore Restaurant. We were assigned to the Seashore restaurant, and with our Aurea experience, we had My Choice Dining, which allowed us to change the times we wanted to dine daily.

Most evenings, we found ourselves dining for two hours or more as we sipped wine and enjoyed each other’s company and the food. The service was attentive and friendly, and the servers were well-versed in the menu.

As this was our first cruise with MSC, we chose not to try any specialty restaurants. However, we were tempted by the Asian Market Kitchen, serving Pan-Asian, teppanyaki, and sushi.

Included Dining Options

Main dining rooms ipanema restaurant and seashore restaurant.

Every menu for the main dining rooms includes an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. The menu offers “Classic Favorites,” and Chef’s selections.

The Seashore dining room is open daily for breakfast, lunch on sea days, and dinner every night with three seatings. Guests who choose the flexible My Choice dining can eat dinner at Seashore any time during the restaurant’s opening hours.

Market Place Buffet & Biscayne Bay Buffet

The Market Place Buffet is the main buffet onboard. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It offers snacks in the afternoon and late-night.

Biscayne Bay Buffet, located near the main pool area, is a smaller and more family-friendly buffet. In both venues, you have the option of indoor or outdoor seating.

MSC Seaside Specialty Restaurants

Asian market kitchen.

The creation of renowned chef Roy Yamaguchi, Asian Market Kitchen is a trio of dining options – sushi bar, Kaito Teppanyaki, and Hawaiian-influenced Pan-Asian cuisine.

Ocean Cay serves delightful fish dishes with fresh ingredients, offering expansive views from floor-to-ceiling windows.

Butcher’s Cut

Butcher’s Cut is an American-style steakhouse that serves Linz heritage beef, custom cut by master butchers.

Venchi 1878 Chocolate Bar and Venchi 1878 Gelato & Creperie

I am a serious coffee snob and love specialty coffees. So, I gravitated to Venchi for my “specialty coffee fix” daily. The coffee is smooth, and the specialty coffee creations are delightful. Make sure to leave Venchi with a chocolate treat – it is a fantastic taste of European chocolate!

Final Thoughts on MSC Cruise Line and the MSC Seaside

Having cruising on Celebrity Cruise Lines, I think that MSC has the edge here with its Aurea class compared to Celebrity’s Aqua Class.

With Celebrity Aqua Class, you get the thermal spa, which was just the heated thermal beds last time we cruised them, and the Aqua class dining room. MSC’s Thalassotherapy Pool, steam bath, snow room, sauna, and salt room are definitely a step up.  The shows on MSC are fantastic, and the public spaces are over-the-top gorgeous.

Would I book another cruise on MSC after our MSC Seaside cruise? We already have! We are scheduled to take a multi-generational cruise on MSC’s Seashore, the sister ship to the MSC Seaside.

MSC Seaside Review: The Good, Bad and Unbelievable

MSC Seaside Review

MSC Seaside Review

MSC Seaside is MSC Cruises year-round cruise ship departing from Miami and their first brand new ship to start cruising exclusively from the United States. I recently sailed on the MSC Seaside on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean itinerary to Nassau, Bahamas, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas and St. John’s, Antigua. The following is my account of the experience I had with my family and my observations and comparisons to other cruises I’ve experienced over the past 20 years.

UPDATE: June 22, 2018 – I just came back from my second cruise on MSC Seaside. This time I sailed to the Western Caribbean stopping at Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Georgetown, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Mexico and Nassau, Bahamas. I’m happy to report that my cruise was equally as good as the first one, but I have a few updates. On this cruise we were a party of five, so we chose a two-bedroom Grand Suite #12001. The suite was incredible, with a master bedroom, separate bedroom, two full bathrooms and plenty of space and storage. The main drawback was since these rooms are located all the way forward and have a glass wind barrier atop the slanted solid hull of the ship, there is virtually no view from the balcony. Even while standing, the view down to the water was minimal. They are no longer operating the slide board water slide, instead they are using single and double rider inner tubes and repurposing the same side. Apparently, guests were getting stuck using the boards and thankfully, I can personally attest that the speed using the tubes is much faster and wilder. MSC has improved the efficiency in the dining room. Service was definitely quicker than we previously experienced and we received our dishes without large waits in between. You no longer need to bring your towel back to spa reception after using the Thermal Suite, instead, they have a basket outside the changing rooms. For some reason bowling, the 5D Theater and the F1 Simulator were closed almost all day while we were in port. In addition, bowling is closed during dinner hours because of the noise. With 4 port calls during our cruise, this made getting the Fun Pass (see activities section) not worth it as they were open so few hours during the entire cruise.

Entertainment

Shows were a perfect length (approx. 30 minutes) and featured a diverse array of singing, dancing, theater, acrobatics from a very talented cast. The small size of theater can make getting seats difficult, but the Metropolitan Theater allows guests to be more immersed in the performances. Every evening the show will be repeating 3 times to allow as many guests as possible to experience it and you must make a show time reservation in advance using the MSC for ME app or one of the many display screens onboard. Reservations are held until 5 minutes before the start of each show, then they open up space for all guests. There were some common elements throughout all of the shows, but the high energy performances, stunning visuals and great acoustics made watching each show delightful. The highlight of the week’s entertainment was the show “Timeless”, featuring a series of unbelievable performances by one of the best Michael Jackson impersonators. Elsewhere around the ship, you can find live music of all varying types, comedy shows and occasional movies on the outside screen.

MSC Seaside Review - Shows

Tip : Pick your preferred show times on the first day of the cruise. Select show times that give you enough time for dinner before or after the show.

Food & Beverage

For casual dining the MSC Seaside is limited to buffet options only. Something not seen on other ships, is two separate buffets. The larger main (Marketplace Buffet) on Deck 8 features a large variety of foods commonly found on cruise ships, plus freshly made pizzas, pastas and rotisserie chicken. The pizza is by far the best I’ve had on any cruise ship. This location offers an incredible amount of outdoor seating along the expansive promenade. Another great feature are the self-service beverage machines. With a simple touch of your cruise card or wristband, you can select and purchase a limited variety beers, wines and soft drinks. If you have one of the unlimited beverage packages, you can also use these machines without any extra cost. On Deck 16, the smaller (Biscayne Bay Buffet), offers a much more limited variety of food options for breakfast, lunch and late-night snacks, A great advantage to this location, was that it was rarely ever that busy and still served made to order omelets in the morning, along with the same great pizza and they also had a kids buffet featuring staples like mac and cheese, chicken fingers and french-fries every day. In addition to the self-service drink machines in the Marketplace buffet, on each table in both buffets, there was a button to notify staff that you would like to order a drink. I found the service to be excellent at most times with minimal waits and a large variety of beverage options. Again, this option is available for free with those on unlimited drink packages.

MSC Seaside Review - Dining

Main Dining Room

The Main Dining Rooms onboard are on the small side. We had dinner in the Seashore Restaurant. Aurea Experience guests have a special entrance the left side of the restaurant. Guests with myChoice Dining may visit the restaurant anytime between 6 -10pm. The service, menu selection and overall food quality and presentation was outstanding. Beverage service was prompt and they refilled our drinks and water glasses regularly. The only issue we encountered was the speed of dinner service. We regularly arrived for dinner at 6pm as they opened the dining room. No matter what we ordered for dinner each evening, we typically were not finished before 7:45. On a couple of nights, we forwent dessert, since we had an 8:15 reservation for the shows each evening. I don’t mind a leisurely dinner but being up against a time crunch to make the show, made it less enjoyable.

MSC Seaside Review - Dining

Specialty Dining

As a perk for having Black level loyalty status on MSC Cruises, we were provided with one complimentary meal at a specialty restaurant for two guests. We decided to use our meal at the Butcher’s Cut steakhouse. For the complimentary meal, we were only allowed to select from the Dining Experience menu. This Dining Experience regularly costs $39 per person and has more limited options. You can select 3 dishes from the menu as an appetizer, entrée and dessert. I inquired about selecting two appetizers instead of dessert and was told it had to be one from each section. I ordered the Beet and Burrata salad, 8oz Filet Mignon and Chocolate Lava Cake. Everything was very nicely presented and delicious, however, I had to send back my filet as it was cooked over my preference. The second one arrived quickly and cooked to my liking. One thing I noticed right away is that the specialty restaurants on MSC Seaside are quite expensive as compared to other cruise lines and you do not get full selection from the menu unless you order a la carte.

MSC Seaside Review - Dining

Tip : Plan your dining and show schedule on the first day of your cruise. Traditional dinner times in the Ipanema Restaurant are 5:30, 7:45 and 9:45 and in the Seashore Restaurant and Marketplace Restaurant (section of deck 16 buffet) are 6:00 and 8:30. Nightly show times are 7:00, 8:15 and 9:30

MSC Seaside has a large spa with both interior and exterior relaxation areas. On both the port and starboard sides of the ship, you’ll find a private deck area for spa guests with loungers and hot tubs. You’ll always be greeted by friendly staff and there is a very spacious reception and waiting area. The treatment rooms are nice and provide a tranquil spot to enjoy a massage or other services. The crown jewel of the Aurea Spa has to be the Thermal Area. This oasis has several ways to destress with highlights including a therapy pool, light and dark sensory steam rooms, two saunas, snow room, salt room and a series of showers enclosures featuring cold and warm rain and misting showers complete with aromatic scents. Access to the Thermal Area can be purchased for the duration of the cruise for $190 for one person and $280 for a couple. Guests booked into Aurea Experience accommodations, have unlimited access to the Thermal Area as well as a complimentary massage up to 55 minutes for two guests per stateroom.

MSC Seaside Review- Spa

Tip : Make your spa appointments on the first or second day of your cruise (preferred times, plus sea days fill up very quickly). There are a limited number of Thermal Area passes sold each week.

Aurea Experience

MSC Cruises prices and packages their cruises differently than most cruise lines. They classify their staterooms not merely be a category, but as an experience. Experiences are a grouping of included benefits that are tied to a specific allocation of staterooms and suites. I thoroughly enjoyed the Aurea Experience which is the top experience, other than the Yacht Club. Firstly, you can book the Aurea Experience in a selection of Balconies and Suites with prime ship locations or special attributes. Regardless of choosing a balcony or suite, the Aurea Experience inclusions are the same. While, this is different from most cruise lines, where suites typically get enhanced benefits, the inclusions for all Aurea Experience guests are some of the best I have ever seen. The already mentioned Thermal Suite Spa access and two free massages were amazing, but just the beginning of what would be the most pampering and inclusive cruise I’ve experienced on a mainstream cruise line. We also received an unlimited (Classic) beverage package. This included all non-premium beer wind by the glass, cocktails and specialty coffees. Another nice inclusion was the freshly made gelato available from 4 different venues onboard. Aurea Experience is also the only way you can enjoy My Choice Dining onboard, instead of the traditional early or late assigned dinner seatings. This a great benefit that allows you to enjoy all there is to offer on MSC Seaside without feeling rushed to get to dinner at a certain time. The last major benefit and one that comes in really handy of busy seas days is the private access to the Top 19 Sundeck and Aurea Bar. You will need to show your keycard in order to enjoy the use of this area on Deck 19 forward, complete with sun loungers, two whirlpools and a large bar with comfy outdoor lounge seating.

MSC Seaside Review - Aurea Drink Package

Tip : Use the mains pools and loungers earlier in the day and then head up to the Top 19 Aurea Sun Deck in the afternoon, when the main pools are their busiest.

Ship Design & Layout

The MSC Seaside is one of the most visually stunning cruise ships afloat. Around every corner you’ll find an artistic flare and beautifully finished spaces. The aft scenic elevators that run from deck 7 to deck 16 were are constant source of entertainment for my children and provided an awesome vantage point when at sea on in port. The location of the kids splash area and waterpark within the extended funnel section provided great cover from the hot Caribbean sun. I also loved the wide open outdoor promenades with infinity glass bridges and strategically placed bars with ample shaded areas near the South Beach pool on Deck 7 and the Miami Beach Pool on Deck 16. There were some areas around the ship were you would walk into a dead end due to crew only access (such as the lifeboat stations on deck 7) or areas restricted to Spa or Yacht Club guests (Deck 8 forward is the outdoor Spa area and the entire forward sections of Deck 16, 18 and 19 are Top 19 Aurea Sun Deck and the Yacht Club).

Tip : When walking on the outer decks, stay on the port side of the ship if you want to avoid walking through designated smoking areas. The heaviest smoke we found was at the South Beach Bar starboard side on Deck 7 .

There is no shortage of things to do on MSC Seaside. On the Miami Beach Pool Deck 16, there are always daily activities happening with the cruise staff. Everything from morning yoga and dance classes to movie trivia, karaoke, and even a “Snow Party”. Elsewhere on the ship they offer arts and crafts, Basketball Tournaments and cruising staples, like The Love Game Show, Bingo and belly-flop competition. There are two zip line that take you from the top of the funnel area to aft of the Miami Beach Pool. The view from the zip line is spectacular especially if you spin around during your flight and take in the 360° views. The water park offers 4 water slides including two racing slides, an open spiral slide and the board slide, where you go down the slide on a small board with buttons that you press in sequence with colors to earn points. Not the fastest slide, but the final drop was cool. There is also a kids splash area complete with dump bucket, small water slides, spray nozzles, fountains and shallow pool. A little less thrilling and definitely a dryer, there is a two-lane bowling alley, Formula One simulator and 5D Theater in the arcade on Deck 7. Each of these activates and the Zip Line are an extra cost. If you have a balance left on your pass, you will not be able to use it as partial payment towards an activity. I had $12 left on my pass and wanted to use the money towards a 30-minute bowling game for $25. Instead of allowing me to pay the difference of $13, I had to pay the full $25 and was told to use the balance towards arcade games or the simulator.

MSC Seaside Review - Zip Line

Tip : Purchase the Fun Pass that gives you extra credit towards more activates. We purchased the $70 Fun Pass and received $30 free. We also purchased the unlimited zip line pass for $20 that covered everyone in the room, instead of paying $5 per ride.

Embarkation/Disembarkation

Boarding in Miami was quick and efficient. The new terminal F has plenty of check-in agents to assist you. A potential major issue with Terminal F is that it is located between parking garages D and G, so be prepared to walk a good distance if parking your car at one of these garages. As an alternative, there is a surface lot located in front of Terminal E where Carnival docks their ships. We were fortunate to find a great sport there, but the lot was very busy. MSC uses colored tags to indicate disembarkation times as most other cruise lines. We opted for express walk-off and that process started around 7:30am. Even though there was a very long line of other guests also doing express walk-off, the two gangways expedited the process of getting of the ship. Once back in the terminal, there was some congestion at the elevator and escalator. The elevator line was long, so we decided to use the escalator. Keep in mind, the port personnel will ask you use the elevator if you do not have one hand free to hold the rail down the escalator. Once on the main floor we whisked through customs in less than five minutes.

MSC Seaside Review - Terminal

Tip : If you get to the port early and are either Aurea or Yacht Club, there are special designated areas inside the terminal with refreshments.

We booked an Aurea Suite, one of the “condo” rooms on the aft of the ship. Our room was #15239 on Deck 15 port side. This room surpassed my expectations in almost every way. The general layout of the room was very spacious and having both an aft and side view was great when going in and out of ports. There was an ample amount of storage, however, walking past the closest when opened presented some issues passing back and forth to the bathroom. For those like myself that travel with many gadgets, I appreciated the three USB ports. There was one near the left side of the bed and two near the vanity/desk area, one of which was rated for high power devices. The bed was extremely comfortable, which may be due to its newness, but had a great sleep every night. There is sitting near the balcony door area with a table and sofa. I liked that the table could be easily stowed under the desk (have had too many nighttime falls on these small glass stateroom tables). The sofa converted into a double bed and was also quite comfortable. One major issue was when the bed was folded out, it was impossible to get out on the balcony without climbing over the bed. It literally touched the side of the desk area. On one morning I wanted to go out early and take some pictures and I ended up with a tear in my pants and major gash in my leg from the sharp metal edge of the desk. The bathroom was very large (by cruise ship standards) with the biggest shower I have ever had on a cruise ship. You could fit 8 people in there. One thing I was disappointed with in the bathroom was that the shower only had a basic hand-held showerhead. Considering this was a suite and Aurea Spa accommodation I would have liked a more elaborate shower system, with multiple sprays like I’ve enjoyed on Norwegian Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises spa staterooms. In general, the level of the finishes in the suites on MSC Seaside is not up the same caliber as the MSC Divina or other cruise line suites. The true star of these rooms is the wrap-around balcony. The balcony area on the side of the ship is wider and a good spot to use the reclining chairs and foot stools. You can still place chairs in the aft-facing section, but I used this spot to stand and watch the wake of the ship and the panoramic views when entering and departing port. From this area you have an almost 180° view. One other benefit of these rooms is the easy access around the corner to the panoramic glass elevators. These two elevators run from Deck 7 to Deck 16 and for the majority of the time we had minimal waits.

MSC Seaside Review - Aft Suite

Tip : Try to book aft Aurea Suites on Deck 15. All of the other decks have window-washing equipment that will block some of your view.

MSC Cruises has invested in technology they’ve branded MSC for Me, to make the onboard cruise experience easier with a combination interactive screens throughout the ship, smartphone app and wearable tech. There are dozens of the touchscreens strategically placed in all gathering spots onboard such as elevator lobbies, stairs and the entrance of all lounges and restaurants. They provide a snapshot of all daily activities, help you navigate the ship or simply find your stateroom. With the embedded RFID chip in your cruise card or for those guests with the wristband, a simple touch on the screen will bring up your cruise profile and allow you to make dinner and show reservations, book shore excursions and see all of your scheduled activities. The smartphone app is really like a pocket-sized version of the touchscreens, providing most of the same information, in a more discreet manner. The app is also your gateway to logging into the ships Wi-Fi and Internet. The app uses the ship’s wifi to keep you connected in real-time to all of the onboard services. The MSC for Me wristbands, provided free with Aurea and Yacht Club accommodations and $5.00 for all other guests, replaces the common cruise card in almost all situations. These soft plastic wristbands are designed to be worn at all times and are fully waterproof. Once we put them on, they were comfortable to the point I forgot I was wearing it. The MSC for Me wristbands allow you to open your stateroom door, make purchases in the shops, order drinks, activate lockers in the spa, and it worked as my electronic ticket for the nightly shows. The are some exceptions to when you’ll still need your cruise card. You will be required to show your cruise card when getting off and returning to the ship in port and to gain access to the Top 19 Aurea Sun Deck. My children also received wristbands color coded to their kids club level. Parents can use the MSC for Me app to track their kid’s location onboard if the children have the chip-enabled wristbands. I never experienced any issues using the app or wristband regardless of my current location onboard MSC Seaside.

MSC Seaside Review - MSC for Me

Tip : Connect your smartphone to the ships Wi-Fi to enable all of the features of the MSC for Me app. Use the MSC for Me app to make your show time reservations as soon as you board. It literally takes just a few minutes.

Internet-Wifi

We received the Standard Internet package as a free perk when we booked our cruise. The Standard Package allows you to connect up to 2 devices and use up to 3GB of data for the entire cruise. I was impressed with the strength of the WIFI with no noticeable drops in speed or signal no matter where I was or time of the day. Using the SpeedTest app on my phone, I measured download speeds of 7.63 Mbps downloads and 4.27 Mbps uploads. Certainly not lightning fast as compared with land-based Internet, but it was superior to most other cruise lines. I was able to access most my iPhone apps including iMessage, websites and social media including Facebook Messenger, Instagram and Twitter. The speed allocation of the Standard Package will not give you enough bandwidth to use streaming apps like Netflix or use FaceTime or other video chat services.

MSC Seaside Review

Tip : Don’t forget to logout of the Internet when you are not using it. You can logout and check your data usage through the MSC for Me app.

It has been reported several times that all of the pools onboard MSC Seaside with the exception of the kid’s pool in the Forest Adventure Aqua Park, have no shallow end. I can see this as a problem for many people who like to wade around, maybe while enjoying a cocktail or two or five. Unless you are well over 6 feet you can’t stand around in the pools. My thoughts are that most cruise ship pools are way overcrowded. People cram into these pools and stand around for hours to the point that the water becomes cloudy and probably not very sanitary. Cruise ship pools should be used to take a refreshing dip and maybe swim some laps (when there are not many people). Unlike resort pools, shipboard pools are just way too small for lounging around or playing in all day. There are plenty of hot tubs all over MSC Seaside, including the two in the Top 19 Aurea Sun Deck and outside areas of the Spa. One notable omission is that there are no hot tubs near the South Beach Pool on Deck 7. This is the adult only pool and while there two showers flanking the pool and plenty of deck space available, MSC Cruises did not put even one hot tub. The closest and most accessible one is all the way up on Deck 16.

MSC Seaside Review - South Beach Pool

Tip : There are two less busy hot tubs located on Deck 19, just forward of the Forest Adventure Aqua Park

Kids Programs

The Doremi Kids club onboard MSC Seaside occupies the entire aft area of deck 18. It’s not the largest kids club I’ve seen, but it is well laid out and the bright colors make the spaces inviting. Lego is the main theme for the Mini-Club (ages 3-6) and Junior Club (ages 7-11). Both clubs feature large Lego building areas and an assortment of games, arts and crafts and a television. The space in between the clubs is the Doremi Studio. This area is used for common activities between the clubs like entertaining shows, movies, dancing and parties. From our experience with two children, one in each of Lego Clubs, we were somewhat disappointed in the amount of engagement the club staff seems to have with the children. Most of the time we found that the kids did not have structured activities like on other cruise lines, but mostly played with the Legos. We also found the music to be way too loud for a space catering to children. There are also two other clubs for teens, the Young Club (ages 12-14) and the Teen Club (ages 13-17).

MSC Seaside Review - Kids Club

Tip : As soon as you board the ship, there will be desk to get your kids outfitted with their wristbands. This is not the registration for the kid’s program, you will also need to visit the kids club separately to get them registered. I suggest going to the club early the first day to get it out of the way. Depending on the time of year, the lines will get long.

Unique Features

MSC Seaside is visually one of the most stunning cruise ships at sea today. There are many features that set this ship apart from the rest. From the design of the pool areas to incorporate enough space for sun worshipers as well as plenty of shaded spots, expansive boardwalks with features like outdoor dining and glass bridges to several types of accommodations to appeal to couples, families and extended families. MSC Cruises did a great job in taking some elements that have been done by other cruise lines and making them better.

MSC Seaside Review - Infinity Bridge

Crew Interactions

My overall experience when interacting with members of the crew was very positive. I found most to be friendly eager to offer assistance. There were some minor issues with be misunderstood due to language differences, but these were rectified quickly. There were some crew standouts for me during this cruise. Our server Barbara in the Seashore Restaurant always had a smile and did her best to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The entire bar service team in the Top 19 Aurea Bar were always fantastic. Lastly, Captain Massa, who we had the fortune to meet twice during our cruise, is a captain of the people. He was regularly seen in the public spaces talking with guests and even though he certainly had a schedule to keep, he took the time to listen and greet those who approached him.

Opportunities for Improvement

No cruise is ever going to be perfect and there are some areas where I felt MSC Cruises could make the experience better for guests onboard the MSC Seaside.

Kids Club: There is a curtain separating the kids club registration desk from the kids area. This inhibits parent’s ability to discreetly check on their kids.

Towel Exchange: One pool towel per person is located in your stateroom. Towel exchange is only possible at one location on Deck 16 (starboard side), otherwise, you must return your towels to your stateroom to avoid incurring a charge for a lost towel.

Recreation: Bowling can only be reserved on day of play, and the desk doesn’t usually open until 11 AM.  There is no accessible phone extension to call the staff for a bowling reservation or question (you must go in person). At times, the staff arrives 30 minutes early than opening time, and there is already a line for bowling reservations to be made.  Popular 30 or 60 minute slots may be taken very quickly, especially on sea days.

Soft Serve Ice Cream: The Biscayne Bay Buffet on Deck 16 is the only place for soft serve ice cream and it is only available for a few hours between lunch and dinner. If you have gelato included in your drink package or you purchase one a la carte, note that the whipped cream machines, dispense a less sweet product than you may expect.

Spa Thermal Area: There are water dispensers located in the Thermal Area, however, they were regularly empty without being replenished.

Registering a Credit Card: Unlike most other cruise lines, MSC Cruises does not have a process to capture credit card information for charging onboard purchases during online check-in or at the check-in counter in the port terminal. Instead they use automated kiosks onboard the ship. If you forget to do this as you are boarding, remember to go back and register your card within 48 hours.

Value and Quality

MSC Cruises is a relatively new player in the U.S. cruise market. They are relying on guests having positive experiences on their U.S. based ships in order to grow their share of the market. To persuade cruisers to choose MSC Cruises over another cruise line in an extremely crowded market, sailings on the MSC Seaside are priced well below their competitors. Not only will you be getting a great price on your cruise, you will also benefit from a very generous bundling of inclusions. For example, choosing an Aurea Experience room in a balcony or suite, already priced below similar offerings from other major cruise lines, will also include a free beverage package for all guests in the room, two massages, free thermal area access and private sun deck. If you’ve purchased any of these extras on a cruise before, you know it amounts to a substantial cost. Of course, getting a great price or receiving all of these include perks means nothing if the cruise you experience isn’t up to your expectations. My experience onboard MSC Seaside was in some respects on par with any cruise line I’ve sailed, but in most instances far exceeded my past experiences of over 70 cruises. In a time when the current cruise line focus seems to be about reducing included benefits, increasing fares and maintaining the status quo, MSC Cruises has a real opportunity to make an impact in the U.S. by providing cruisers with a quality alternative.

But I was very nervous after reading reviews prior to our trip (end of May-June 2023), but had no negative experiences. Check in/onboarding was super smooth, lots of fun activities to do, decent food, and their private island in Bahamas is amazing. The restaurant we ate at nightly really worked hard to create special meals for one of our group who has a variety of allergies. The staff were always trying to please and the entertainment was good. I don't know if they just improved when we got there or if other people who did bad reviews are just super picky and mean. I have travelled quite a bit, but this is only my second cruise. I would recommend MSC Seaside!

Photo of Lexie P.

The food is generally good. Lots of options at the Marketplace Buffet, but beware they only serve breakfast and lunch. Towards dinner time you'll only be able to find snacks and cold leftovers. I honestly think the food at the buffet is better than the nightly dinners, BUT if you do decide to eat during your scheduled allotment, know that you will have to wait close to an hour to receive your food. I understand the wait time is in place due to the number of people ordering food at the same time, but if you're in a rush to be somewhere or just don't feel like waiting, catch an early dinner at the buffet! The private island is great. Lots of areas to relax, swim, and get a drink. They have a complementary buffet during lunchtime, but the food is not great in my opinion. There are lots of entertainment options during the cruise. I did not indulge in any of these events, but this is not my first MSC cruise so I know from experience that they are okay. It's safe to say that Royal Caribbean has MUCH better entertainment, so if that's what you're looking for during your vacation, I would not go with MSC. The elevators are a hot mess. They use a new and "improved" system to call for an elevator, but it just makes you wait longer for one to arrive. The rooms are nice. Clean and well-put together. Pretty much every room has a balcony with chairs to sit on. Most cruise lines would call that an upgrade and charge you tons extra, so that's a plus. The bathrooms are tiny though! The shower is practically the size of a mini fridge. I literally had to open the door just to bend down and clean my legs. Very ridiculous in my opinion when you're paying hundreds of dollars for a room. Nothing that bad where my trip was ruined, just VERY annoying and inconvenient. Would not recommend anyone over say, 6'2 to go on this cruise! As I mentioned before, I stayed in the Yacht Club last summer so I would hope my experience is credible enough to sway someone's options. If you're willing to spend the money, DO IT. You get a private dining experience for all three meals. The food is delicious but specifically the butter is amazing. I've been purchasing the same brand for myself since! There's a lounge with an always empty bar and complimentary snacks 24/7. You get on and off the ship MUCH quicker and more efficiently than everyone else (including all and any port stops). The rooms are bigger. Bathrooms are spacious and height-friendly. You get a personal butler??? Very outlandish when I read that inclusion at first, however, I found the good sir assigned to my family to be extremely helpful during our stay. Overall, the Yacht Club was a wonderful experience, even in comparison to my favored RC.

Horrible cruise i have ever been on. First they changed the port from Miami to Orlando, FL the day before boarding. The elevators take a long time so be prepared to wait forever just to get in an elevator. Also they changed the itinerary and was only able to go to 1 location when I clearly paid to go to 2 locations. Dis embarkment was supposed to be early Monday but since itinerary changed it was for Sunday morning. Also bathrooms by the marketplace were very disgusting and unable to use. Overall very disappointed on this cruise line for what was supposed to be a great weekend.

Photo of Curtis C.

The entire experience was almost custom designed to be infuriating. Every single thing from the port, the boarding, the corridors, the elevators, the rooms, the communication, the internet, the amenities, the food, the pools, etc., ad nauseam. All with little tics and quirks seemingly designed to annoy and irritate. Want a bottle of water? Nope, show me your "drink" card. Want to go down the slide at the top of the ship? Nope, show me your "slide" wristband. Think you can put your food in a togo box to take back to your room? Nope!!!

Photo of Peter M.

I'm on this cruise right now. Overall, the staff, food, shows, service, experience is great. This is my 3rd time on an MSC cruise. I just wanted to share my experience because I thinks it makes a difference. I went up to one of the lounges and was waiting to listen to music because one of the musicians was sitting up there. After a few minutes I decided to go chat with him and asked if they were going to play. He said that they were supposed to start 45 minutes ago but the other musicians hadn't shown up yet. We started chatting about our favorite artists: Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Dr. John, Art Tatum, Professor Longhair, George Benson, John Mayer, Richie Havens. I asked, "so I know guests aren't generally allowed to play the piano because they don't want people banging all over their instruments and causing them to have retune etc, but I've played jazz and blues piano for six years, I know how to play, your band hasn't showed up, and there are about 10 people in here... you think they'd care if we jammed together on a few songs." And I could tell he of course he wanted to jam but he said "they're pretty particular about it." So I went down to the front desk and said exactly what I just wrote above and asked if I could play a few songs. They said "not possible." And I just point that out because here's an example of what could've been the start to an amazing review.... "I want to tell you how great this ship is and I got to play with one of musicians for a few minutes and I'll always remember that good time..." Accommodating a guest in a low-key way that would've made me say "listen... these guys bend over backwards to make your experience amazing...." would be a way to make yourself stand out. And that's where I think you see the difference between a cruise line that is perfectly pleasant and one that's exceptional. There's room for improvement.

Photo of John B.

Terrible website, can't even find age of ships. Tried to book a cruise but there was no information about what was included in the price, Buyer beware!

Photo of Camrin P.

Excellent cruise very fun private island is amazing. Yes the lines where long for drinks and food but on the other hand food and drinks were good. It was pathetic the amount of unhealthy over weight people so upset about there food and waiting in lines for it. You cannnot beat the price for the cruise with what was offered, even waiting 3 hours to get on the boat!!!!!!!! Opened up my eyes on how others view Americans.

Photo of Edmund T.

Poor service throughout the embarkation and disembarkation of guests. Had our multi plug confiscated at the port and told us to claim it back in the ship. Went up the ship to try to get the multi plug, they told us it is back on the port. Went to the port they told us it is in the ship. Poor crowd management, Poor service throughout the MSC seaside cruise. Only high point were the hardworking dinner service and housekeeping. The rest of the service crew were unfriendly or unwilling to help. Especially the guest service the worst service I have receive.

Photo of Lisa J.

Only give a 1 star because I have to. Terrible, food, service, staff, undercooked food. Food not always available. Marketplace closes different times. Yogurt warm, only breads, pastries, and fruits were good. No washcloths in the room, unable to get any, very interesting trying to take a shower. No free desserts like on Carnival. Do not waste your money or time with this cruise line.

Photo of Raymond S.

Worst cruise I have ever been on and I've been on a lot. Elevators barely work and at times they shut them off altogether. In two days I have had to walk 10 and 12 flights of stairs because the just shut the elevators off. Trust me, as a fat guy that is not fun. You can't go 10 feet without someone trying to sell you a restaurant package-it's like walking into a high pressure furniture store. The food in the buffet seems to be pre-Covid leftovers. I couldn't cut the burger with a butter knife. Fortunately we have the Yatch Club Package so we have a private foo-foo restaurant which is good but, again, as a fat guy the portions are small. If you like to shop on cruises-I like to shop for watches-very limited selections. Now this boat is nice, physically, pretty much everything else sucks with one exception. There is a rock band from Columbia on board and they are awesome. Truly enjoyed their show.

Everything you need to know about MSC Cruises cabins and suites

A relative newcomer in the North American market, MSC Cruises is equal parts elegant and kitschy. The line tends to appeal to a wide swath of cruisers, from Europeans who like to party into the wee hours of the morning to American families who book because of affordable fares and "kids sail free" pricing.

To satisfy its diverse passenger base, MSC offers accommodations to fit all types of travelers. Rooms include inexpensive inside cabins that sleep two people, midlevel staterooms with windows and balconies, and high-end suites that offer cruisers with larger budgets a private oasis in the form of the MSC Yacht Club .

A variety of connecting rooms and cabins with extra bunks accommodate larger groups and families who wish to share space.

Because your cruise cabin will be your home away from home for several days, it's important to book one that fits your needs. That's especially true if you're sharing it with several people.

Whether you're looking at an inside cabin for a cruise with friends, balcony accommodations for you and your significant other or a suite for your family, here TPG breaks down what you can expect when you book a room on one of MSC's ships.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

MSC Cruises cabin primer

MSC Cruises has become one of the fastest-growing lines in the cruise industry, with about two dozen ships in its fleet. The vessels fall into six classes : Lirica, Musica, Fantasia, Meraviglia, Seaside and World.

Although cabin offerings can vary from ship to ship and class to class, the standard types remain the same: inside, outside, balcony and suite.

Additionally, you'll find the same basic amenities in each room, unless otherwise noted below. They include two twin beds that can be joined to form a queen- or king-size bed; an in-cabin bathroom with a shower, a sink, a toilet and basic soap, shower gel and shampoo; a couple of nightstands; a chair or sofa; a desk/vanity; a closet; a safe; a hair dryer; a minifridge; a phone; USB outlets and a selection of both North American and European outlets.

On all ships except MSC Lirica, MSC Opera, MSC Sinfonia and MSC Armonia, you'll also find an interactive TV that allows you to view the daily schedule, check your onboard account and choose from a selection of live TV programs and movies.

Twice-daily room tidying is provided by a room steward assigned to each cabin, and room service is available throughout the day for an added fee.

One confusing aspect of MSC's bookings is that you'll have to select an experience package in addition to a cabin type. Package tiers determine things like your ability to choose a specific cabin and preferred dining time and whether you'll receive welcome amenities in your room. Certain cabin types are only available in conjunction with certain package experiences and vice versa. Those are noted in each respective section below.

Accessible cabins , including accommodations for wheelchair users, are available on every ship in MSC's fleet. In addition to more space, they feature wider doorways and lowered sinks and toilets in the bathrooms, as well as grab bars.

MSC Cruises' experience packages

Here's what you get when you book each of MSC's three experience packages, which determine the perks you'll receive on your sailing.

  • Accommodations
  • Complimentary food in the dining room and buffet
  • Broadway-style theater entertainment
  • Access to the onboard gym, pool and kids club
  • MSC Voyagers Club points
  • One for-fee change to your cruise booking (with some restrictions)
  • Drink package discount at time of booking
  • All Bella perks
  • Choice of specific cabin and location
  • One free change to your cruise booking (with some restrictions)
  • Ability to choose between early and late seating for dinner
  • Room service (complimentary for breakfast, but fees apply for other meals)
  • Discount on pre-cruise specialty dining package
  • All Fantastica and Bella perks
  • Flexible My Choice dining, which lets you eat at any time you choose between set hours
  • Free 24-hour room service delivery
  • Pillow menu
  • A welcome package, including Prosecco and chocolates
  • Complimentary access to your ship's solarium and thermal area
  • A 10% discount on all spa treatments purchased on board
  • Special Balinese massage offer when booked pre-cruise
  • Complimentary use of bathrobe and slippers
  • Priority boarding and luggage drop-off

Inside cabins on MSC Cruises ships

Inside cabins — rooms with no windows — are available on all ships in the MSC fleet. Ranging from 140 to 301 square feet (depending on the ship), they make for great sleeping because they're so dark. They're also ideal for passengers who are on a budget.

In addition to the standard amenities mentioned above, they provide room for anywhere from two to four passengers to sleep. (Rooms that sleep more than two feature bunks that pull down from the ceiling.)

These cabins are available with the line's Bella and Fantastica experiences.

If you're sailing solo, some MSC vessels offer cabins for one outfitted with a twin bed that converts into a couch. These interior studio accommodations are only available with the Bella package on MSC Meraviglia , MSC Bellissima and the line's World Class ships.

Ocean-view cabins on MSC Cruises ships

Ocean-view rooms are similar to insides in that they provide basic amenities — but with a view.

Offering 129 to 269 square feet of space (depending on the specific ship and ocean-view category), these staterooms allow you to see outside through a porthole or a window that doesn't open.

MSC's outside cabins are available to passengers who book Bella and Fantastica packages.

Additionally, if you're traveling with your family or another group, several of MSC Cruises' ships — particularly those in the Meraviglia and Seaside classes — feature space for as many as 10 passengers via a series of connecting rooms. Options are available at the ocean-view and balcony levels.

Balcony cabins on MSC Cruises ships

You might be surprised to discover that most of MSC Cruises' balcony cabins provide less interior square footage than what's available in inside or ocean-view staterooms.

Balcony rooms run anywhere from 129 to 205 square feet, but their key feature is, of course, a private balcony, which does add an extra 32 to 129 square feet, depending on the vessel and specific type of balcony room booked. These cabins are bookable in conjunction with MSC's Bella, Fantastica and Aurea experiences.

Although balcony cabins offer upgraded amenities, including MSC's brand of hand lotion and toiletries, they are largely the same as inside and ocean-view accommodations.

MSC's newest ships — including those in the Meraviglia, Seaside and World Classes — house connecting balcony rooms that can sleep up to 10 in the same group traveling together.

Additionally, on its World Class ships, the line has introduced inward-facing balconies, similar to the ones Royal Caribbean pioneered in 2009 with the debut of its Oasis Class vessels . On World Europa, for example, they overlook the ship's promenade, offering views of the activity below, rather than the ocean.

MSC Cruises suites

All ships in MSC's fleet have suites that can be booked as part of the Fantastica and Aurea packages, but it's Aurea that offers the largest number of perks, as outlined above.

The several types of suites vary by ship in terms of size and amenities. Some come with balconies, while others only offer floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows.

Junior Suites

Although this room type is listed as a suite, it's essentially a balcony cabin with a bit more space — 183 square feet of interior accommodation with a balcony that ranges from 140 to 183 square feet.

Standard suites include rooms with huge balconies larger than the cabin's interior space and ones with private whirlpool tubs. They run from 269 to 355 square feet, with balconies measuring 32 to 409 square feet.

Grand Suites

Coming in between 377 and 420 square feet, with balconies spanning from 32 to 495 square feet, Grand Suites — found on Seaside and World Class ships — come in two types. They include standard one-bedroom Grand Suites, as well as two-bedroom varieties.

The latter has one bedroom with a queen-size bed and another with two twins. It sleeps up to five passengers and offers two bathrooms — one with a shower and the other with a bathtub.

While most suites are designed for double occupancy, some suite accommodations on MSC Bellissima, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Virtuosa and MSC Magnifica can sleep up to five people.

MSC Yacht Club suites on MSC ships

All cabins located in the MSC Yacht Club — an exclusive, gated area on select ships — are called suites, even the smallest and least expensive, which don't have windows or balconies.

Yacht Club suite types range from insides to two-deck duplexes, all of which come with butler and concierge services, luxuriously appointed furnishings (such as real marble finishes, memory foam mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets) and access to members-only restaurants, bars (alcohol is free there), lounges, pools and sun decks.

The Yacht Club features seven different types of rooms. Ships that have the MSC Yacht Club on board include MSC Bellissima, MSC Divina, MSC Fantasia, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Preziosa, MSC Seaside, MSC Seascape, MSC Seaview, MSC Seashore, MSC Splendida, MSC Virtuosa and MSC World Europa.

Note: Not all Yacht Clubs have the same suite types available.

MSC Yacht Club Interior Suites

Although these 161- to 226-square-foot cabins don't offer a view or fresh air, they are elegantly decorated and include all the Yacht Club benefits mentioned above.

MSC Yacht Club Deluxe Suites

These Yacht Club digs are the equivalent of a balcony cabin — but in a dedicated area that includes all the exclusive perks. They run 236 to 366 square feet and have balconies ranging from 54 to 86 square feet, so they also come with a bit more space, both inside and outdoors.

MSC Yacht Club Deluxe Grand Suites

Similarly, Deluxe Grand Suites are like the Yacht Club equivalent of booking a Grand Suite with more perks. Depending on the ship, they offer anywhere from 269 to 463 square feet of space, plus 65- to 129-square-foot balconies. Some Grand Suites also have two bedrooms instead of one. Further, these rooms on Seaside Class ships include bathrooms with bathtubs, as well as separate living areas.

MSC Yacht Club Duplex Suites

Rising two decks, MSC's duplex staterooms measure 495 to 635 square feet and come with 65- to 334-square-foot balconies. They feature living rooms with two-person sofa beds downstairs and master bedrooms upstairs, which also sleep two passengers.

Each of these accommodations comes complete with two walk-in closets and two bathrooms — one with a bathtub and one with a shower. Most duplexes on Meraviglia and World Class ships also have their own private whirlpool tubs.

MSC Yacht Club Executive and Family Suites

The line's Executive and Family Suites, available only on Fantasia Class vessels, are an excellent choice for anyone who wants to stay in the Yacht Club with a family or other group of more than two people.

This option, which is one type of suite (despite its confusing name), has space for up to five cruisers via a combination of bunk beds, sofa beds and beds that pull down from the ceiling, depending on the ship. The suites clock in at around 431 to 549 square feet, depending on the vessel.

The only drawback is that these staterooms have no balconies and no in-room dining areas, but they do include all the perks you'd find in Yacht Club cabins.

MSC Yacht Club Royal Suites

Although they only occupy one level, at 388 to 667 square feet, MSC's Yacht Club Royal Suites are right up there with the Duplex Suites in terms of space. They offer the second-largest amount of square footage after the Owner's Suites. They come with huge balconies comprising 355 to 753 square feet of outdoor area.

Additionally, bathrooms in these suites offer bathtubs on Fantasia, Meraviglia, Seaside and World Class ships, and the latter three have private whirlpool tubs, as well. All four classes' Royal Suites also include separate living room areas.

MSC Yacht Club Owner's Suites

The largest and most impressive of all MSC's cabins are the Owner's Suites found in the Yacht Club. Offering an impressive 840 to 1,119 square feet — larger than some land-based apartments — plus 269- to 670-square-foot balconies, they're some of the most luxurious rooms afloat.

Specific amenities vary by ship, but as an example, Owner's Suites on MSC World Europa offer floor-to-ceiling windows and walk-in closets. These accommodations on both the line's Seaside and World Class vessels also feature bathrooms with separate showers and bathtubs, as well as private whirlpool tubs and separate living room areas.

Bottom line

Although MSC Cruises' cabin types are straightforward, the line's add-on experiences can complicate things a bit.

Overall, what's key to remember is that MSC Cruises offers a wide variety of rooms and pricing to meet just about any budget or style of cruising. Each ship will offer accommodation choices from the least expensive, bare-bones interior rooms to the priciest suites, which come with butler and concierge services.

When you sail with MSC Cruises, you can expect function, style and comfort, regardless of the cabin type you book.

  8. MSC Seaside Review

MSC Seaside represents MSC Cruises' biggest and splashiest entry into the North American market yet. The first MSC ship to be named outside of Europe, MSC Seaside was christened in a star-studded ceremony in Miami in December 2017. Seaside brings a taste of the Mediterranean to the Caribbean but offers a somewhat more "Americanized" cruise product than her predecessor in Miami, MSC Divina.
