Mississippi Paddle Boat

The Southern Comfort, located in Horning on the Norfolk Broads, is a double-deck Mississippi Paddle Boat purpose built for the Broads with a capacity of 100 passengers for public trips or private hire.

Our boat is a luxury river cruiser which runs regular trips from the beautiful village of Horning, along the River Bure through the village and out to Ranworth Broad and back, passing lovely old thatched houses, windmills and Norfolk reed beds.

Throughout the trip there is an excellent commentary and continual pointing out of all the water birds around at the time. There is the ever present bustle of river traffic with cruisers, yachts and the occasional wherry.

Our fantastic luxury river trips are either one and a half hours or two hours in length

The upper deck has seating for 68 passengers and provides excellent views across the reed beds - the lower deck has a plush lounge seating 46 and also has a fully stocked bar at reasonable prices. Snacks, souvenirs and freshly made tea and coffee are available throughout each tour.

There are toilets on the vessel. Wheelchairs are welcome and can be wheeled aboard. We are also dog friendly. Group discounts are offered. Adavance booking via our online booking system or by telephone is strongly recommended however small the number of people.

Bookings for boating trips are now well underway for this season. Evening cruises run throughout June, July and August.

As well as the Summer early season is also a favourite time of year, so quiet with only a little other boat traffic about, so a great time to see the Broads.

Some river trips are already filling up so advanced booking via our online booking booking system or telephone is advisable.

The Souhern Comfort is available for private hire, if there is a special  occasion you would like to celebrate while crusingon the Norfolk Broads, please contact the office to discuss options.

Our fleet of passenger trip boats offer a fabulous opportunity to discover the Norfolk Broads. A full commentary from the skipper will ensure that you don’t miss a thing, explaining the origins of the Broads, identifying points of interest along the way and showing you the abundance of local water birds as they come into view. There is no better way to learn about the Broads whilst taking in the beautiful scenery all around you.

One manual wheelchair can be accommodated on the Belle of the Broads and two manual wheelchairs on the Queen of the Broads – this space must be pre-booked by purchasing the wheelchair user ticket (adult or child). Please note you will be required to navigate steps when you board and disembark. Our virtual tours show the layout of all our passenger boats.

We have a licensed bar on board each boat for light refreshments, and have introduced contactless payments on our trips – we actively encourage you to use this method whilst on board.

Happily, you can bring small well-behaved dogs on board (for a small additional charge), so there may be no need to leave your four-legged friend behind!

We recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

This lovely tour features a 9 mile ride on the Bure Valley Railway, Norfolk's longest narrow gauge railway, through the pretty countryside from Aylsham to Wroxham the "Capital of the Broads".

There's free time in Wroxham before our afternoon cruise and you may wish to hunt out one of the local fish and chip shops or small cafés for lunch. You'll find shopping at Roys, which claims to be "the largest village store in the world".

Finish the day on board the double-deck Mississippi Paddle Boat Steamer for an afternoon cruise on the lovely Norfolk Broads, sailing out of the pretty village of Horning. Outside you'll see pretty thatched houses, windmills and Norfolk reed beds and inside you'll find a fully stocked bar and be able to enjoy interesting commentary along the way.

We're due to arrive at Aylsham Station at 11:30 before boarding the train for our 12:00 departure to Wroxham Station, arriving at 12:45. Take the 15 minute coach transfer in to Wroxham Centre for free time before departing at 14:15 to Horning. Our 1.5 hour cruise sails from Horning at 15:00 and we're due to head home at 16:45. They'll be a short stop at Dobbies Garden Centre in Kings Lynn on the outward journey.
