My family and I are overwhelmingly grateful for an incredible experience with Fun2Dive! We had originally scheduled a tour earlier in the day, but due to our own miscommunication, we arrived late. They worked with us to join a later tour in the day and were kind enough to refund the difference in price. Based on the unexpected gesture, we were invested in returning the funds through buying merch, etc. Their staff gave us an excellent recommendation for lunch (Seafood Seller) and when we returned, we were eager for what awaited. We were paired with Storm as a guide, Judge as boat captain. We received wetsuits and a briefing on manatees, their habitat and behavior, and how their business and customers can ensure the animals comfort and protection. We were driven the 5 minutes to the marina and set out on the water. Both Storm and Judge excelled at talking through the experience. Over the next couple of hours, each discussed how manatees live throughout summer months in Crystal River and how they look to position themselves to both find these animals for our group and how to set us up as knowledgeable visitors. We were coached on what to look for, how snorkelers can be respectful to manatees, and everything else that came to mind. We scouted out a few spots and immediately found a few animals in a cove. We finished gearing up and slowly descended. Over more than the following hour, Storm quietly prompted and coached our group in operating around manatees - How best we can see them underwater and rising for air, how we can plan ahead and position ourselves for taking better photos, and again, how we can err on protecting and respecting manatees in their own environment. We were overwhelmed by the size, shape, and grace of the animals. They were foreign, surprisingly large, gentle, and zen. My family is very grateful for both Storm and Judge, and their clear expertise. We had an incredible encounter and we hope that we will be able to return for a visit in the winter. Thank you!

I had an amazing experience today snorkeling with the manatees! I'm still somewhat of a new Floridian resident, and this has been on my to-do list for some time now. This was my first time snorkeling and my first time swimming with aquatic life. Fun 2 Dive made this an amazing experience for us. I went snorkeling today with my group Outdoor Afro. Apparently Jan is the best month to do this due to the cold weather. The manatees tend to migrate to this area of Crystal River due to its warmth. The water stays around 72 degrees. Today was definitely a perfect day for snorkeling because the temp outside at 7:30am was 40 degrees. We were SURROUNDED by manatees! It was so awesome! Our guide Captain Storm was very knowledgeable, provided great instruction and guidance, and was very patient with our group. We all were provided with a wet suit, snorkel mask, and foam noodle for the activity. Cap Storm guided us to the more populated areas and took great photos and videos for us! When we finished snorkeling and boarded back onto the boat we were treated with hot tea and hot cocoa. I definitely recommend booking a snorkeling trip with this company. They were very professional and ensured that we had a great time. Photos/video are available to purchase for around $45. I recommend going early in the morning to avoid people traffic in the water. The less people, the more manatees!

Meeting the manatees was great and our tour guide Tyler was nice, but I was really looking forward to the photos we were promised at the end and was met with disappointment. Other tours got great photos of them with the manatees whereas our tour guide took not a single photo of anyone in the tour actually with manatees. We got photos of us from above the water with our heads underneath, unrecognizable. Right next to our guide, a manatee came up to my face and practically kissed me, and not even a single photo of the interaction or any others were documented. If you go, bring your own water camera for quality photos. They also charge 25$ for one photo and 45 for 2 or more.

Complete false advertising. The website depicts clear water, tons of manatees, and excellent guides. However, that was absolutely NOT the case. My family and I were told this was a three hour swim with the manatees. I'm not really sure why that's even on the website at this point. We got on the boat, rode around quietly for what seemed like ages, with a silent driver and a silent tour guide. Barely any conversation or attempt to connect with the passengers whatsoever. Eventually (an hour and a half - two hours later), we find a mother and her calf. She was feeding in a secluded spot with her baby. We get off the boat and try to look at it for about 15 minutes and after that they took us back. I don't know how that equates to three hours of swimming with manatees, but ok. She (the mother manatee) also had her head in the shore facing away, seeming like she wanted to be left alone. (I could be wrong about that, however the boat and guide kind of cornered her after specifically saying NOT to do that - so at least to me it seemed like she was just trying to eat alone.) I'd also like to mention that our boat driver, named "Judge" stated that, "We aren't in the springs, and the water is murky so you won't be able to see much." Isn't that what this place advertises?!? Springs?!? And, I don't know, MANATEES?!?! Don't waste your time or your money here. It is not what it is made out to be AT ALL. I mean, unless you're looking to ride around for two hours in people's backyards in silence and look at a single manatee for a few minutes (if you even get to see it, with all the murky bay water.) The guide, Gabby, obviously knew it sucked too, because she didn't even address it and just kept "apologizing" at the end by "thanking us for our patience" with the manatee. I understand that mother nature is unpredictable and you can't control wild animals. However, don't advertise tons of manatees and hours of swimming with them in clear water when you could honestly get a better look by peering at one off a dock somewhere. If anyone knows where you can actually see some manatees, like, PLURAL (in larger quantities), please let me know! However that place is absolutely NOT here. This was honestly just a huge disappointment and genuinely quite saddening.

Our guide Crystal was amazing and so was our captain. We found a couple of manatees near the 3 sisters springs. Then went into the springs and it was pure magical! What an amazing experience. The staff are all amazing folks and really want you to have a great time.

These guys are so nice and friendly and knowledgeable. I had a tiny issue with photos and they fixed it in less than 5 min over the phone. Thank you Fun 2 Dive! The dive was great too and we got to see some lovely manatees. Cute gift shop too!

Our guides were amazing!! Crystal and Gavin are pros and led us to like 5 different manatees.

If you're going to do a Manatee tour, go in February and book it HERE!!! We came for the first time in 2020 (also in February,) and our first experience was awesome. We raved about it and told everyone that they needed to do it should they ever visit Florida. So when we found out that we would be here again in February for a wedding, we knew we had to bring our kids!!! We got SO lucky with Captain Dylan & our guide Jessica. We had THE best team. Dylan operated a drone to check the area and find them & Jessica was in the water helping all of us get THE closest encounters I could have hoped for! We saw at least 5 manatees and got up close noses and some accidental "manatee rides" which happens if they come up for air and you're above them. Our group this time was incredible as well. Everyone was very respectful of the manatees and other snorklers. I have to say that Jessica went above and BEYOND in my opinion. She made sure we got close ENOUGH without getting too close, helped the kids (especially my son... constantly!) with their masks and with positioning us so we had the best views and couos just freeze. I cannot say enough about our experience today. Absolutely TOP Notch. Thank you SO much Jessica and Dylan!

If swimming with manatees is on your bucket list, Fun 2 Dive can help to make it happen. It felt like we chose the coldest day of the year because it was 37 degrees when we went out in the morning. We booked our trip a couple weeks in advance and decided to go first thing in the morning based on what we'd read about the springs. We filled out our waivers and watched the recommended video ahead of time so we had a pretty good idea of what to expect. We checked in and directed to restrooms & coffee and tea while we waited. When it was time for our trip we were greeted by Kaylee (guide) and we were given wetsuits to put over our swimwear. They have an area with small changing cubbies with curtains that you can use for privacy when donning your wetsuit. We changed and put our clothes in the car as we were warned that anything on the boat would get wet. Because it was so cold we all wore coats and brought towels for after. Then we got on the bus to the dock and we met Dylan (boat captain) and all got comfortable for the ride. We rode around for a bit and saw a couple manatees but there were other boats around them so we continued to look for more. Dylan pulled out the drone and found some in a small lagoon out of the way so he pulled the boat in and we all got out. We followed Kaylee through the water but it was challenging to keep up with her while balancing on the pool noodle and remembering not to kick too much or touch the bottom. We immediately saw a manatee upon entering and even saw a mom and baby swim by. We were in the water with 4 manatees during our trip. It was awesome seeing them in their natural habitat while just going about their normal day~ swimming, eating, sleeping, and coming up to the surface to breathe. It was amazing and a trip that we won't forget. Before we knew it, it was time to head back. We all hopped on the boat and dried off as Dylan offered hot beverages which we were glad to see. The boat returned to dock and we were shuttled back to Fun2Dive where we changed into dry clothes to prepare for the ride home. Couple items to note: Knowledge: ask any questions you may have. Kaylee and Dylan were very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We learned so much about the area and the manatees. Timing: the approximate 3 hour trip is your total tour time from when greeted by your guide to arriving back at Fun2Dive. You're not in the water with manatees for that amount. Real time in the water was less than an hour. People: we booked the semi private swim (max 6) for the 4 of us and another group of 2 was on the boat too. Next time we will book a private swim. With more people in the water and everyone jockeying to see the manatee, it was tough. My husband and I stayed back further from the manatees because we wanted our kids to be able to get close. Restroom: they have 2. Use them after checking in and definitely before putting on your wetsuit. There was a restroom at the dock but will only lessen amount of time in the water. Photos: While in the water Kaylee took photos that were available for purchase ($45) We had a GoPro so we didn't purchase them. Gratuity: they have an atm but I'd recommend bringing cash so you don't have to worry about that after your swim. Shop: they have an awesome selection of manatee stuff and goodies to commemorate your swim. We enjoyed looking at everything while waiting for our trip.

Once in a lifetime experience! Our in-water guide Storm and captain/hot chocolate connoisseur Gavin were amazing. Gavin was knowledgeable of the area/best place to go, and made sure we were able to warm up quickly post-snorkel as it is very chilly after. Storm did a great job of explaining the manatee manners (what to do if a manatee approaches), led us to the best spots, pointed out where he saw manatees, told us how to navigate the springs, and captured some great photos. We booked a 7:30 am private tour for 5 of us. We may have gotten a hug and kiss from a few manatees. You're dealing with nature so it's a toss up what you're going to get, we lucked out and had an extremely active morning at Three Sisters Springs, but after our experience with Storm and Gavin, you can trust you're going to have the best time possible no matter what! 100% will return when we can.

Welcome to Fun 2 Dive Manatee Tours where we specialize in five-star small, semi-private, and private manatee snorkeling tours. We are open daily, year-round.

We conduct tours to swim with manatees in the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. Tours are conducted from stable boats with heavy duty ladders, where we enter the water to encounter wild manatees in their natural habitat.

In 1983, the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge was established in Kings Bay to specifically protect the Florida manatees that consider this area their home. King’s Bay is fed by 40 natural springs, which maintain a constant temperature of 72 °F (22 °C) — a temperature that the Manatees love and need.

manatee tour and dive reviews

Ryan and Jessica were great to tour with, extremely knowledgeable, and went out of their way to look for manatees further away from the crowds when possible. We saw several manatees and a few calves with their moms. Fun 2 Dive staff are very friendly and respectful to the environment and the animals which I hope we all learn from in the years to come. They also take excellent photographs, so you can leave your camera at home.

manatee tour and dive reviews

Just went on our first trip out to see the manatees. Captain Jason and guide Bree were amazing and so patient. The knowledge they both shared made the trip magical. If you come to see manatees I would definitely go with Fun 2 Dive. The entire staff was awesome and worked together to ensure we all had great tours and made memories to last a lifetime.

manatee tour and dive reviews

This was worth the money. We visited in the "off season" for manatees and were a little worried we might not find one. However, our guides knew all the best places and we were in the water for over 2 hours within a few feet of them. The equipment provided was like new and we were given helpful instructions on appropriate behavior when interacting with the manatees. We chose the 6 people or less in a group option and I would say the smaller the group had better the experience.

manatee tour and dive reviews

One of the absolute best experiences we’ve ever had. My dive partner Ryan, and our Captain Jason made this trip one of the best we’ve ever done. They are professional, knowledgeable, and absolutely delightful to be with. Even if you’re not swimming & you just stay on the boat to observe it's a fabulous way to spend a few hours. If you’re ever looking for an exceptional Florida adventure, look no further! We’ll be back!

manatee tour and dive reviews

I can honestly say this was my greatest experience to date. Dani was very knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable searching for manatees. She took great pictures and made sure our group was all accounted for. Captain Ryan, our boat driver, was very informative about the areas and waters. He knew key spots to dive into. Also had a couple laughs along the way. Top notch service!

Great staff, super friendly, great with our kids, very knowledgeable, answered all our questions and more! We had a great experience with them, and were able to be out with the manatees for quite a while. They seem to genuinely love their job. We really enjoyed our time with you! Thank you for giving us some great memories.

Our family of 5 had our own 6 person boat with Megan and Ryan. They found a mother and calf for us to dive with for almost 2 hours! Plus we hit a crystal clear spring. Awesome service and all their equipment was clean and in great condition. Highly recommend them and we will return with 3 kids aged 10, 8 and 5.

Tour de France

Power analysis: ranking the tour de france contenders by their best performances of 2024, we dive into the power numbers of tadej pogačar, jonas vingegaard, primož roglič, and remco evenepoel..

Heading out the door? Read this article on the new Outside+ app available now on iOS devices for members! >","name":"in-content-cta","type":"link"}}'>Download the app .

We’re mere days away from the start of the Tour de France , and Tadej Pogačar has stepped into the spotlight as GC favorite. The other top GC favorites — Jonas Vingegaard , Primož Roglič, and Remco Evenepoel — are coming off crashes, injuries, and rollercoasters of race form. This year’s TDF route has plenty to excite each GC contender including lumpy time trials, high-altitude finishes, and 200km classics-style parcours.

While it’s impossible to tell how each rider’s form is, we can take a closer look at their most recent performances to see what they’re capable of. Are there enough TT kilometers for Evenepoel to make up time? Can Roglič hang with Pogačar and Vingegaard in the mountains? We set out to answer as many of these questions as we could.

In this article, we’ll examine the power data of the Tour’s top GC contenders. We looked through hundreds of race files and results sheets to find the standout performances of each rider in 2024.

The Best Climbing Performances of 2024

Pogačar dominated the Giro d’Italia in May, winning six stages and the GC by nearly 10 minutes. His standout climbing performances came on stage 15 to Livigno and stage 20 to Monte Grappa. Both of these stages featured long climbs, plus stage 15 finished at high altitude. Pogačar pushed more than 6.4w/kg for 30 minutes that day, including a huge attack on the Passo di Foscagno at nearly 2,000 meters.

manatee tour and dive reviews

Pogačar – Attack on the Passo di Foscagno

Time : 14:24

Average Power : 435w (~6.8w/kg)

On the final mountain stage of the Giro, Pogačar destroyed everyone on the double-ascent of Monte Grappa, one of the longest climbs in professional cycling. On the 20th day of the grand tour, Pogačar’s performance was one of the best of all time, pushing well over 6w/kg for nearly an hour.

Pogačar – Monte Grappa

Time : 51:46

Estimated Average Power : 420w (6.4-6.5w/kg)

Now let’s take a look at the other GC contenders. We know that Pogačar is capable of pushing over 7w/kg for 10-15 minutes in the middle of a grand tour —in February, Vingegaard was already dominating on 10- to 15-minute climbs. The Dane won three stages and every jersey at O Gran Camiño, most of which was raced in cold and wet weather conditions.

On stage 2, Vingegaard did ~7w/kg for 11 minutes, and he followed that up with a 6.5w/kg performance for 20 minutes on stage 4. The Dane’s form was building, and he performed even better at Tirreno-Adriatico in March. Vingegaard was pushing 6.6-6.7w/kg for 25-30 minutes that week, and he was hardly being challenged.

In stepped Primož Roglič, Vingegaard’s former teammate and recent winner of the Critérium du Dauphiné. Roglič has been on rocky form since joining BORA-Hansgrohe, but he produced some of his best performances of 2024 at the Dauphiné. On Stage 6, Roglič did ~6.4w/kg for 31min on Le Collet d’Allevard, followed by 6.2w/kg for 32min the following stage on Samoëns 1600. There are great numbers, but when you put them next to Pogačar’s and Vingegaard’s, they don’t look so big.

Best 30-60 min climbs in 2024

  • Pogačar : ~51:46 at 6.4w/kg on Monte Grappa (Stage 20 of the Giro d’Italia)
  • Vingegaard : ~6.7w/kg for 26:10 on San Giacomo (Stage 5 of Tirreno-Adriatico)
  • Roglič : ~6.3w/kg for 31:02 on Le Collet d’Allevard (Stage 6 of Critérium du Dauphiné)
  • Evenepoel : ???

The gaping hole in this analysis is Remco Evenepoel. He’s been the least consistent of the TDF contenders this year, with huge wins and horrible lows. In fact, Evenepoel hasn’t performed above 6w/kg for 30+ minutes in 2024 — though we know from past seasons that the Belgian is more than capable of hitting these numbers. Evenepoel’s climbing form is the biggest question mark heading into the Tour. On the other hand, his time-trialing performance is almost guaranteed.

GC Contenders in Time Trials

Evenepoel is undoubtedly the strongest time-trialist of the Tour’s GC contenders. In fact, Evenepoel is the best time trial rider in the world on most occasions. The 24-year-old is three for three in the individual time trials he’s ridden this year, and he’s taken down some hefty competition including Filippo Ganna and Josh Tarling.

Pogačar, Vingegaard, and Roglič are some of the best time trial riders in the world, but it’s difficult to compare them to a rider like Evenepoel. The Belgian races a significantly different schedule than the others, so they rarely face off head-to-head. In fact, the last time that Pogačar raced Evenepoel in a time trial was the 2022 World Championships (Evenepoel finished third and Pogačar finished sixth, 39 seconds slower than the Belgian).

This year’s Tour de France features two time trials, neither of which is flat. Evenepoel could take a significant amount of time back in the flatter time trial, while Pogačar and Vingegaard could beat Evenepoel in the mountainous stage 21 TT.

Best Time Trials in 2024

  • Pogačar : First (stage 7 of the Giro d’Italia) and secnd (stage 14 of the Giro d’Italia)
  • Vingegaard : Fifth (Stage 1 of Itzulia Basque Country) and ninth (Stage 1 of Tirreno-Adriatico)
  • Roglič : First (stage 1 of Itzulia Basque Country) and thirdrd (stage 4 of the Critérium du Dauphiné)
  • Evenepoel : First (stage 4 of Volta ao Algarve), fourth (stage 1 of Itzulia Basque Country), and firsst (stage 4 of the Critérium du Dauphiné)

Sprints, Punchy Climbs, and Gravel

If Tadej Pogačar has taught us anything, it is that modern cycling is about much more than climbing and time trials. The UAE Team Emirates rider has won on all sorts of terrain, from wet gravel to uphill sprints and everything in between. This year’s Tour route will be won by a well-rounded rider, someone who can smash the time trials, excel on the climbs, sprint for bonus seconds, and conquer gnarly gravel and wet descents.

Pogačar has proven himself as the most well-rounded rider in the world, especially in 2024. In March, he soloed more than 80km to win Strade Bianche, and then he finished third at Milan-Sanremo. One of his most impressive one-day performances of the year came at Liège-Bastogne-Liège where he won by nearly two minutes after attacking on La Redoute. That four-minute puncheur effort could strike fear into Pogačar’s GC rivals who are typically best on 20 to 30-minute climbs.

manatee tour and dive reviews

Pogačar – La Redoute

Time : 4:08 Estimated Average Power : ~530w (8.2w/kg)

Pogačar has already marked himself as the number one GC favorite for the Tour de France. The data backs him up, and it’s hard to see anyone beating him if Pogačar is at his best. Therein lies the most prominent question: will the GC contenders be at their best for the Tour de France?

Two-time defending champion Vingegaard hasn’t raced since crashing heavily at Itzulia Basque Country. Roglič just won the Critérium du Dauphiné, but he nearly fell apart on the final stage. Evenepoel was far from his best at the Dauphiné, but his win in the TT proved that he’s not far off. The 2024 Tour de France could be one for the history books.
