We put you first. We create a highly personal luxury travel experience, ensuring no detail is left untouched. Come in and visit us and meet the team – you are in great hands with Jimmy Martin Travel.

We are one of the city’s most experienced travel operators with over 30 years experience, we specialise in offering our customers an unparalleled choice – and genuine value for money. We are not just bookers of holidays – anybody can do that – we believe in finding out what our customers are looking for in a break and tailoring a package to meet their needs. Often they have ended up travelling to places they would never have even thought of before – or imagined could be so affordable.

Jimmy Martin Travel opened in November 2001, 6 weeks after the events of September 11th. The vision was people NEED to travel and will in time return to their favourite pastime, and this has been proved correct.

Our philosophy at Jimmy Martin Travel, has and will always be our attention to detail and our personal service. We are not order takers at JMT, we are here to advise and fulfil our client’s needs, to come back with solutions and off-the-wall suggestions if required. We like to encapsulate all our client’s specifications, whilst offering value for money and a truly memorable holiday experience.

Our shop has a large selection of eclectic brochures, and our staff are all very experienced. We are all well travelled and like to offer personal suggestions, and ideas. Each client is treated with personal attention and almost all we know personally, we rely on repeat business and recommendations.

As I like good service myself, I expect Jimmy Martin Travel to give no less in return, not just at the time of booking, but all the way to completion…it is a journey for both ourselves and our clients.

Frutin Travel acquired by Jimmy Martin

Edinburgh-based jimmy martin travel has acquired frutin travel, where he began his career more than 40 years ago as the ‘brochure boy’. the acquisition is part of expansion plans to develop and grow his travel agency’s reach across the city. .

For agency owner Jimmy Martin, it’s a full circle move as he previously worked at Frutin Travel in Leith prior to setting up Jimmy Martin Travel in Stockbridge 20 years ago. He describes his career development at Frutin as working from ‘brochure boy to unofficial MD’. As part of the take-over of Frutin Travel, partner, Emma Morrice, will become part of the Jimmy Martin team at their Raeburn Place offices.

Jimmy Martin said: “Frutin Travel has always been dear to my heart and to be expanding with this acquisition, following 18 months of the most challenging times the travel industry has ever faced, cements our faith in our future business growth.

“Emma brings with her a specialism in last minute beach holidays which will expand our holiday portfolio for clients. She also has a deep knowledge of America, South East Asia, Vietnam and Cambodia, which will enhance the advice we give to our existing client base who enjoy long haul travel with an element of adventure.”

Emma Morrice said: “I am delighted to be joining such a proactive and professional agency which is exhibiting strong recovery from the pandemic. Having previously worked with Jimmy and Richard from Jimmy Martin Travel, it seems like a natural and seamless move for the resources of the two businesses to come together with Jimmy Martin Travel’s acquisition of Frutin.”

According to a Statista survey, 83% of worldwide travel companies either reduced staff or laid off employees as a result of Coronavirus. But, Jimmy Martin Travel, which recently won the title of Small Agency of The Year in the Agent Achievement Awards (for the third successive year), is finding that existing clients are returning to international travel following more than a year of staying at home. At the same time, his travel agency is attracting a whole new sector of clients.

Jimmy said: “Anyone who booked their holiday online and experienced hours on hold trying in vain to secure a refund or a credit for their trip during Covid knows what a challenging, stressful experience that was. So, in the days where DIY digital holiday booking tools abound, travellers are turning their back on these and opting for the advice and safety net which only a travel professional can provide. People are seeking a ‘high touch’ service to help them navigate fast changing protocols, border restrictions and amended airline schedules.”

Travel agent buys agency where he began as ‘brochure boy’

The owner of Edinburgh-based Jimmy Martin Travel has acquired Frutin Travel, where he began his career more than 40 years ago as the ‘brochure boy’.

The acquisition is part of expansion plans to expand his travel agency’s reach across the city.

Martin worked at Frutin Travel in Leith before setting up Jimmy Martin Travel in Stockbridge 20 years ago.

He describes his career development at Frutin as working from ‘brochure boy to unofficial MD’.

As part of the take-over of Frutin, partner Emma Morrice will join the Jimmy Martin team at its Raeburn Place offices.

Martin said: “Frutin Travel has always been dear to my heart and to be expanding with this acquisition, following 18 months of the most challenging times the travel industry has ever faced, cements our faith in our future business growth.

“Emma brings with her a specialism in last-minute beach holidays which will expand our holiday portfolio for clients.

“She also has a deep knowledge of America, southeast Asia, Vietnam and Cambodia, which will enhance the advice we give to our existing client base who enjoy long-haul travel with an element of adventure.”

Morrice added: “I am delighted to be joining such a proactive and professional agency which is exhibiting strong recovery from the pandemic.

“Having previously worked with Jimmy and Richard from Jimmy Martin Travel, it seems like a natural and seamless move for the resources of the two businesses to come together with Jimmy Martin Travel’s acquisition of Frutin.”

Until last summer, Frutin had been in the Voyager Systems network, which ceased trading in August 2020 .

A statement from Jimmy Martin Travel said: “However, as a fully owned company, [Frutin] was able to withdraw from this and run as an independent agency before joining Advantage Managed Services. The collapse of Voyager did not impact on Frutin.” Pictured: Jimmy Martin (left) welcomes Emma Morrice (second left) to The Jimmy Martin Travel team, along with Lorraine Gersternberger and Richard Sturgeon.

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

  • Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
  • Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
  • How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
  • What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
  • What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
  • What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.
