The 15 Best Things to Do in Ibiza

By Chloe Sachdev

Ibiza old town

Beyond the hippy days and techno raves, the best things to do in  Ibiza  can be attributed to the island's staggering natural beauty of windswept beaches, coves, rocky red cliffs and pine forests. Spend your days swimming and snorkeling, hiking, or renting a boat to explore hard-to-reach bays. Away from the beaches, visit the cute villages and town squares that make this  Balearic Island  beat, each with its unique vibe but full of local cafes, restaurants, and shops. With a Phoenician settlement founded in 654 BC, much of the island is steeped in history, with UNESCO heritage sites of ancient settlements dotted around. Spend some time traipsing around Ibiza Town, a labyrinth of bustling shops and restaurants with an ancient past seen in its cobbled stone streets and castle that looms large over the island. Here, we share a snapshot of things to do in Ibiza, including what to see and explore to get to know this mythical island.

Best things to do in Ibiza

View of Ibiza Town

Visit Dalt Vila and the castle of Ibiza

A World Heritage Site, Dalt Vila (Upper Town) is Ibiza Town’s old quarter. It’s located above Ibiza Town inside a magnificent ancient fortress with Renaissance town walls, cobbled stone streets and tight alleyways. Originally built to defend the island, it’s now a charming labyrinth of bustling restaurants, bars and shops such as  Annie’s Ibiza  (a favorite amongst the fashion set, including Kate Moss when she’s in town) and  La Oliva . This cheerful restaurant spills out on to the cobbled stones. Visit during the evening to see this old part of town at its liveliest.

Shopping in the old town

Go shopping

Pound the pavement around Ibiza Town for a wonderful hodgepodge of shops. Start at the newly pedestrianized boulevard of Vara De Rey, shopping at haunts like  Ruta Market , a colorful store selling affordable fun fashion. Here, you’re also surrounded by high-street stores like Massimo Dutti, Mango and Zara. Head inwards along the winding streets of Ibiza Town for a pick‘n’mix of high and low international and local fashion, including local Balearic label  Charo Ruiz . Pick up a traditional straw basket from Can Vinyes, one of the oldest basket weavers on the island, now in its third generation. For vintage finds, stop at Holala Ibiza for all manner of thrift ware, or head to  Vincenta Ganesha , a treasure trove of collectable vintage, including the original Paula’s Ibiza. Further towards the port and around the marina is where the glitzier shops live—Dior, Loewe, Dolce & Gabbana, etc.

Santa Gertrudis in ibiza

Visit the villages

Make time to visit the little villages that make up the heart and soul of the White Isle, each with its own distinct vibe. Santa Gertrudis, in the island's heart, attracts well-to-do boho-chic families and is filled with lovely restaurants, bars and stores selling perfectly fringed knick-knacks and organic cotton floaty dresses. Further east are San Carlos and Santa Eulalia. The former resembles a beautiful time-warped village with bright white buildings and an 18th-century church. Visit Bar Anita, a traditional Ibizan café that has remained unchanged since the 40s. To the west are the villages of San Jose and San Antonio. The latter may be famous for its all-out party scene, but it also has some of the island’s most stunning beaches and sunsets. South of the island, you’ll find the charming villages of Es Cubells, Sant Francesc and Sant Jordi, which have free open-air film screenings in the town square throughout July and August. Head north to Es Portinax, a tourist-heavy town now with hotels like the ultra-luxury  Six Senses Ibiza  and eclectic Los Enamorados. Don’t skip San Miguel, a quaint village with a cute selection of bars, restaurants and cafes, including Can Xicu de sa Torre, an old-school wooden Ibicencan bar.

Club Ibiza Spain

Go clubbing

In Ibiza, there is a club for everyone. For a glitzy time, head to  Club Chinois . For dinner and a cabaret, book a table at  Lío.  Get your rave on inside an old airline hanger at DC-10, which attracts the all-black techno-set. Daytime party-goers should head to  Ushuaïa ,  Destino  and  Cova Santa , or for a thumping super-club experience, visit  Hï  and  Amnesia . Then, of course, there's the one that started them all:  Pacha . It was the first club on the island, and it still pulls in a crowd from first-timers to loyal gig-goers, depending on the night. The hippy market Las Dalia now boasts one of the most exciting clubs on the island,  Akasha , featuring a roster of local and international DJs, an impeccable sound system and an intimate crowd (max 300-capacity space).

Hippy flea market

Visit the hippie markets

The hippie markets are a lovely little portal into Ibiza’s unique happy-go-lucky culture.  Punta Arabi  at Es Canar is the oldest and biggest market on the island. It’s held every Wednesday and Friday with over 500 stalls. The legendary colorful hippy market in San Carlos,  Las Dalias , is open from Saturday to Tuesday. Every Sunday, the little village of Sant Joan plays host to its cute market with organic food, crafts and clothes stalls and live music. For something more traditional, head to San Miguel Artisan Market. There are only a handful of stalls held every Thursday, but there is traditional Ibizan folk dancing and live music.

beach in Formentera

Visit Formentera

Only 45 minutes by ferry and often referred to as Ibiza’s little sister, Formentera has a lower-octane vibe. Here, life is about taking it slow. Swim off the red rocks at Caló des Mort or enjoy spiked lemonade pomadas with your toes in the sand at ramshackle kiosks that dot the beach like Kiosko 62. Rent a boat and head to Espalmador Island. Part of the Natural Park of Ses Salines of Ibiza and Formentera, it’s an uninhibited white-sand sliver of paradise surrounded by bluer-than-blue water. Or head for a long lunch at one of the many beachside restaurants such as Beso Beach , Juan y Andrea , or Casa Pacha Formentera .

Isla de Es Vedra Ibiza

Rent a boat and visit Es Vedrá and its surrounding coves

Es Vedra, the uninhabited islet that rises from the ocean, is part of the legend of Ibiza—some say its magnetic powers draw people back time and time again. Rent a boat at Cala d’Hort or Cala Tarida and make a day of it, visiting the mythical rock and surrounding coves, such as the magical Atlantis, a quarry-like rock structure opposite Es Vedrà. Or, if the conditions are ripe, kayak from Cala d’Hort to Es Vedra.

Cala Salada beach Ibiza

Visit the beaches

There are hundreds of beaches in Ibiza. Here are a few island favorites. About 6 miles southwest of Ibiza Town, you’ll find the specular red rock cliffs of Sa Caleta (Es Bol Nou) beach. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring the ruins of an ancient Phoenician settlement. Just 2 kilometres from Ibiza Town is Talamanca Beach. Its soft sand strip is dotted with low-key restaurants, cafes and the high-key Nobu Hotel. For old-school magic, head to Salinas Beach and walk to  Sa Trinxa  restaurant, where the Balearic beats spill onto the sand. The wild and windswept shore of Cala Conta in San Antonio boasts some of the best sunsets on the island and is also home to the iconic  Sunset Ashram . Equally spectacular is Cala Salada with its Listerine-blue water and slabs of red rocks, which are sprinkled with suntanned bodies in high summer. Northwest, Cala Benirrás Beach attracts hippies and families for its famous sunset drum sessions. Up north, snorkel around the rocks of the stamp-sized beach of Cala Xarraca, before finishing up at the chiringuito.

Hiking in Ibiza

Go for a hike

One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Ibiza is by foot. Like beaches, there are hundreds of hiking routes to choose from. Here are some of the scene stealers. Sa Talaia is the highest mountain in Ibiza. At 1,300 feet high, you can start the trail from the church of Sant Josep, through the beautiful countryside before taking in a 360-degree view of Ibiza. Up north, The Moscarter Lighthouse is a rocky hike that starts from a small cove in Portinax and leads you cliffside until you reach the 140-foot high summit. Or, take an intermediate hike from Cala Salada to San Antonio, which takes you past spectacular beaches such as Cala Yoga and Gracioneta. To curate your hikes and outdoor adventures, contact specialist agents and/or guides such as  Rockid .

Museu Dart Contemporani DEivissa

Visit some art galleries

The last few years have seen a boom in Ibiza’s art scene. Near the salt village of Las Salinas beach, you’ll find Le Nave Salinave . It’s an old salt warehouse turned gallery by NYC-based art collector Lio Malca – past blockbusters include an immersive Keith Haring exhibition. Wrapped in the town walls of Dalt Vila, inside an old bunker that served as an armoury, is Museu D’art Contemporani D’Eivissa (MACE). It’s a contemporary art gallery dedicated to modern work, some international and others with an Ibizan connection. Down a rocky path near Jesús is Espacio Micus , a space that started as a workshop in the 70s by abstract artist Espacio Micus. After his death, his daughter Katja turned the space into a gallery that exhibits contemporary artists alongside her father’s original work. In San Antonio, inside the eye-catching hyper-eclectic hotel Paradiso is ADDA Gallery . Founded by Anna Dimitrova, this gallery has all kinds of quirky fun installations that play with light and colour. On the San Juan road, stop at Lost Artist Ibiza farmhouse-turned-Ibiza-studio of British artist Christopher Stone, featuring his signature bronze sculptures.

Horse around

Explore Ibiza’s spectacular countryside on horseback . The White Isle has unique riding companies dotted around the island—from the mountains to the beaches—such as North Ride Ibiza and Ibiza Stud in Santa Gertrudis. For those wanting to give back, try Ibiza Horse Valley – a not-for-profit sanctuary that saves from abandonment or mistreatment. The refuge, located in a 40-hectare canyon, is to gently rehabilitate the horses, allowing them to live in a herd in a close-to-wild setting. Once physically ready, the horses re-enter the riding world. With a herd of about 17 horses, half-day group excursions are offered all year round through the mountains and valleys in the north of Ibiza. All riders from all levels are welcome.

In Ibiza, dancing and movement don’t just happen in a club or after-hours. Sober dance parties and movement circles on the White Isle are practically part of the mainstream. For those wanting to lose themselves in dance and connect with others in a safe space, check out the Ecstatic Dance Ibiza Tribe and their timetable of events in various locations with killer sound systems and DJs. For those wanting to have more of a workout, check out Primal Moves . Now a global phenomenon, Primal Moves was started in Ibiza by Nick Brewer, a former prisoner who uses the movements of yoga, pilates and full-body locomotive patterns to form this bendy cult workout.

Pool at Six Senses Ibiza

Look inward

Ibiza is well-known as the capital of alternative new-age therapies, with many believing the island has a unique healing energy. There is something for everyone, from shamans to chakra healers and everything in between. Six Senses Ibiza is fast becoming known as a luxury wellness HQ, with retreats throughout the year that bring together the best of the best from around the world for talks, classes and reflections. Jeremie Quidu is on every yogi's speed dial for those wanting private group classes and specializes in everything from sound meditation and crystal therapy to healing circles.

Discover the unique flora of the White Isle at Ibiza Biotechnological Botanical (also known as Bibo Park). One of Europe's most technologically advanced botanical gardens, there are over 30,000 plants on-site that range from rare to medicinal and even musical (the world’s first ‘vegetable piano’ lives here). The park is dedicated to biotech and interesting on-the-go experiments, such as plant-powered biological batteries for smartphones and a drinkable H2O machine that allows you to drink water straight from the sky. Away from the science, it’s a space to promote the general ecology of the area—there are pine forests to zen out in and loads of activities on offer, such as guided tours, seed planting, and bird watching.

Cala Benirras Beach Ibiza

Find your inner hippy

What started as a peaceful anti-war protest in the ’90s still gathers peace lovers and hippies to Benirras beach every Sunday to dance and beat drums to the rhythm of the spectacular sunset. Everyone is welcome, and during high season, you can expect hundreds on the beach, all dancing hypnotically as the sun slips below the horizon.

All-night raver, boho-cool hippy, blissed-out beach lover – Ibiza is all this and more to the many, many fans who have a soft spot for the Balearics' party-hard sister. In summer the cream of the world's DJs (David Guetta, Sven Väth, Armin van Buuren et al) descend on the island, making it the ultimate destination for clubbers. Ibiza's modest population is swallowed whole by the seven-million-odd tourists that arrive en masse each year, and nowhere does sunset chilling or boho-glam style quite like the White Isle.

Why Go To Ibiza

If sun-drenched days spent lazing on beaches and sailboats , and long nights grooving to techno beats sounds like your idea of vacation, then Ibiza (or Eivissa in Catalan ) is the place for you. Known for its collection of buzzy nightclubs clustered around Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni, the third-largest Balearic Island – located off the east coast of Spain – is packed with revelers throughout most of its summertime peak season. Still, partying isn't Ibiza's only pastime. Pine-clad hills conceal quaint villages, secluded coves hide family-friendly beaches, eateries tempt with traditional Balearic foods and vendors hawk everything from leather goods to olive oils in the local markets. Ibiza is everything you think it is – and so much more.

Ibiza Travel Tips

Best months to visit.

The best time to visit Ibiza is from May to October when high temperatures hover in the mid-70s and mid-80s and the party crowd descends. The months between November and April are considered low season, when flight and hotel rates drop along with the temperatures to more moderate 50s and 60s.

Weather in Ibiza

Data sourced from the National Climatic Data Center

What You Need to Know

  • Take a walk on the Prom Ibiza's take on the seaside walkway is its Passeig Maritim , which winds along Ibiza Town's harbor. It's a quick must-do, and it's flanked by restaurants, cafes and bars.
  • Pick your locale carefully For night owls, Sant Antoni de Portmany and Ibiza Town should be your home base. Visitors looking for a more peaceful vibe should head to Santa Eulalia, Es Caná and Portinatx.
  • Souvenir shop When it comes to souvenirs, you should pick up some leather goods, ceramics and espadrilles, along with wine, sherry and a nougat candy called turron . Visit the Las Dalias and Punta Arabi markets for other fun finds.
  • Skip the hotel If you're traveling to Ibiza with a big group, you might want to rent a villa for your stay. Check out Owners Direct and Essential Ibiza for more information.

How to Save Money in Ibiza

  • Steer clear of nightclubs Most of Ibiza's popular nightclubs charge an expensive cover on top of high drink prices. Stick to bars that don't charge a fee and you'll save some euros.
  • Travel in the low season You'll miss out on beach bumming and boat tours, but low season is a great time to visit Ibiza without the crowds and prices characteristic of the months between May and October.
  • Buy a clubbing package Purchasing a package that includes entry to multiple clubs or events will save you some cash.

Culture & Customs

Locals in Ibiza speak Catalan and Spanish, but it's such a tourist town that visitors will be able to get around without knowing either. Still, having a few key phrases in your back pocket can be helpful. For instance, "hello" is hola or bon dia ; "thank you" is gracias ; and "excuse me" is dispensi or perdoni .

The official currency of Spain is the euro, and U.S. travelers can exchange their dollars for euros at the airport or at kiosks throughout the city. Since the exchange rate fluctuates, you'll want to check it before you depart for your trip to get an idea of your travel budget.

Ibiza is generally a safe place to visit. Keeping your valuables locked away in hotel safes, making copies of your passport and other forms of identification, and making sure that you don't leave personal belongings unattended, such as on a beach towel, will go a long way to ensuring your safety. If you're enjoying the island's nightlife, you'll want to keep an eye on your drinks, and never drink and drive.

What to Eat

Like other coastal or island destinations in Spain, Ibiza's cuisine contains a lot of seafood. Paella and tapas are mainstays, but there are few Balearic and Ibizan specialties you might want to try. One is sofrit pages , a Balearic stew of chicken, lamb, sausage, potatoes and artichokes. The Balearic islands have their own sausages – sobrassada and botifarra – which are worth a taste. Arroz de Manteca is Ibiza's own traditional dish of rice, local meats, saffron and mushrooms. For an affordable bite, you can try Bar Dona Ana in Santa Eulalia or Los Pasajeros in Ibiza Town. For a fine dining experience, recent visitors give Amante Ibiza on Cala Llonga rave reviews.

A stop at the El Mercat Vell, "Old Market," which is located on the Placa de sa Constitucio, is a must-do, especially if you want to get a taste of the island's produce, olive oils and breads. It's open daily from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., from May to October; and until 6 p.m. from November to April.

Nightlife is one of the main draws of Ibiza, and Pacha – opened in 1973 – is Ibiza's quintessential nightclub. Open daily year-round from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., this favorite among locals and travelers alike contains a large dance floor, an outdoor terrace and a restaurant, all of which surrounds an old farmhouse. Still, admission is steep and drinks are expensive too. For live music and a great ambience without the cover charge, travelers should try Teatro Pereyra .

Getting Around Ibiza

The best way to get around Ibiza is by car since it allows you to traverse the island on your own time. Although bus service is available, the network doesn't connect all places of interest and doesn't operate at all hours of the day. Taxis can bridge the gap for those that want to take the bus, but the fares may add up. To reach other Balearic Islands, such as Mallorca and Formentera, or even the Spanish mainland at Valencia , travelers can take ferries.

To reach Ibiza, travelers can fly into Aeroport d'Eivissa (IBZ), also known as Ibiza Airport. The airport is situated less than 5 miles southwest of Ibiza Town, making a quick taxi ride into the city the best option for those who do not rent a car. Alternatively, visitors can take a ferry from Valencia or Barcelona .

Entry & Exit Requirements

For U.S. citizens entering Spain, a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the travel departure date is required. U.S. citizens do not need a visa unless they plan on remaining in Spain for longer than 90 days. Visit the U.S. State Department's website for more information on exit and entry requirements.

Nearly everywhere you turn in Ibiza, you'll find a postcard-worthy view.

Complete Ibiza Travel Guide

TripSavvy / Kirstjan Veski

Here's everything you really need to know about your trip to Ibiza. Learn about what the weather is like, how to get to and from the airport, which beaches are the best, which nightclubs to visit, and more.

Ibiza has excellent weather, thanks to its perfect location in the Mediterranean Sea. In terms of latitude, it is in line with Alicante, the south of Italy, central Greece and Turkey, so the sun and warm weather are virtually guaranteed for most of your days there. The other bonus is that by being an island, it is cooled more by the sea and the sea breeze.

When we visited, there were times when we found it just too hot, as well as a few cloudy hours where we almost put a jacket on. Nonetheless, you would have to be very unlucky to not get a tan when visiting in the summer.

As fall and winter roll in, good weather becomes far less guaranteed. It won't get as cold as in-land places such as Madrid but sunbathing weather is unlikely. If you are looking for winter sun in Spain, you'll need to visit the Canary Islands , which are much further south.

Airport Transport

Journey from Ibiza airport to San Antonio. Take the number 9 bus from the airport which departs every 60 or 90 minutes (summer/winter). But check where your hotel is first - the bus stops multiple times in the town, which is spread out over a bay.

The number 10 bus goes to Ibiza Town (Eivissa). The number 24 goes to Santa Eularia and Es Canar.

Where to Stay

Your main accommodation options are San Antonio and Ibiza town. Some points to consider:

  • Ibiza is quieter and more ' Spanish '.
  • San Antonio is cheaper.
  • Ibiza is well connected to Formentera , Santa Eularia and Es Canar.
  • San Antonio is where main bars are, though the nightclubs are spread over the island, with bus services taking you to them, wherever you are based (see below).
  • San Antonio is well connected to many nice west-facing beaches, where you can watch the sunrise.
  • Ibiza has a beautiful old town. San Antonio has no old town.

People often refer to there being the 'old' and 'young' sides of Ibiza, with San Antonio in the young side and Ibiza in the old.

Young people, afraid to be trapped with old people, gravitate towards San Antonio. This is not necessarily appropriate. The 'old' and 'young' tags are relative. having said that, San Antonio has more of a 'clubbers village' feel to it - if you met some cool people last night in a club, you're more likely to be able to hang out with them the following day if you're staying in San Antonio. Where you stay - be it Ibiza or San Antonio, and then whether it's the central or far off area of San Antonio - shouldn't matter, assuming you are here for the same reason most come to Ibiza - for beaches and/or clubbing.

Santa Eularia is another good option if you're looking for a quieter town that is well connected to Ibiza Town, but don't stay here if what you're after are wild party nights.

Is It Expensive?

Everyone says Ibiza is expensive. The hotels may be a little more than in Granada or Madrid . The nightclubs are definitely astronomical - 25€ to 45€ to get in, with most clustered at the higher prices. But food and drink prices are fair. There are plenty of large English breakfasts on offer for 5 euros, while we had a good menu del dia for 10 euros which would be quite acceptable anywhere in Spain . Beers are standard price, if not cheaper than elsewhere. There are many cheap flights from Spain to Europe , so it is not an expensive place to visit at all.

Getting Around

Nothing beats a car for getting around Ibiza. Ibiza is just 50km across at its widest point, but you'll spend most of your time zipping between the main urbanizations and their local beaches. Look at how close they are!

Distance Between Towns

  • Ibiza to San Antonio  15km, 20 minutes
  • Ibiza to Santa Eularia  15km, 17 minutes
  • Ibiza to Ibiza Airport  10km, 12 minutes
  • Santa Eularia to Es Cana  6km, 8 minutes

The center of Ibiza Town is dominated by the port, but there are beaches close by at Figueretes and Taranca.

Figueretes is quite small, but it has a great restaurant, Mar y Cel (Paseo Maritim Figueretes, No. 16), which does an excellent, freshly made paella (with meat, vegetarian and seafood varieties) and some well-served cocktails. The cocktail barman is very interested in his drinks and will change ingredients if you ask.

Nearby, you also have Playa d'en Bossa, home to the famous Borra Borra after-party bar (i.e. day time dance club). A little further out, heading north-east along the coast, you have Cala Llonga, followed by Santa Eularia (Ibiza's third biggest town and a popular place to base yourself).

The beaches vary in quality in San Antonio from acceptable sand to rocks.

Nearest good beach to San Antonio is Cala Bassa, which can be reached by bus or ferry. Crystal clear waters but the beach is packed and one over-priced company has a monopoly on the bars.

But the best beaches are on Formentera, just half an hour away by ferry!

Other good beaches include:

  • Cala d'hort
  • Cala Tarida
  • Playa de Comte (good for sunset)
  • Calo des Moro (Cafe del Mar)
  • Port de Sant Miquel
  • Playa Benirras
  • Cala Xarraca

How to Get From Ibiza to Formentera

Formentera is the Balearic Islands' smallest inhabited island and is just 30 minutes from Ibiza. Car ferries depart from the port in Ibiza town. But there are also local ferries that will take you from Ibiza You can take the main ferries from the port ( Balearia  or  Trasmapi.com ), but these can be quite expensive (if taking a car, this is your only option).

Alternatively,  Aqua bus  will take you from Ibiza to Figueretas and Playa d'en Bossa and then from Figueretas and Playa d'en Bossa to Formentera. This company won't take you directly from the port, though.

Ferries to Formentera arrive in Port de Savina. The most famous beach in Formentera is Illetes, a couple of kilometers from the port.

Ibiza is probably the most famous of Spain's many islands , popular for its great beaches and wild nightlife. Read on for some ideas of what to do in Ibiza.

Things to Do in Town

The main 'cultural' activity in Ibiza is the Puig de Molins necropolis, which is a world heritage site.

Town Museums

  • Archeology Museum
  • Centro de Interpretacion Madina Yabisa (history of Ibiza)
  • Interactive displays of Rennaisance weaponry and walls

Town Churches

  • Cathedral (with museum)
  • Capilla de Sant Ciriac (18th century)
  • Sant Cristofal Monastery
  • Iglesia del Hospitalet (Medieval Chapel of the old hospital)
  • Santo Domingo Monastery (16th to 18th century)

Art Museums

  • Museo Puget
  • Sala Capitular Contemporary Art Museum

It doesn't really matter where Ibiza's nightclubs are. In fact, the clubs and ticket sellers are quite reluctant to tell you. This is because, whether you stay in Ibiza Town or San Antonio, there are regular buses throughout the night to take you to and from the clubs - your bus there is included in your ticket price, while buses back are about three euros.

Still, there is a definite advantage in being able to walk home rather than having to wait for a bus. So, here are where the big six clubs can be found:

Nightclubs in San Antonio

  • Eden (Twice as Nice is here)

Nightclubs Ibiza Town

  • Space (actually Platja Bossa Bora Bora club at Playa Den Bossa)

Nightclubs San Rafael

  • Privilege (Supermartxe)
  • Amnesia (Cream is here)

San Antonio Guide

We were staying in the far end (the cheaper end) of San Antonio. Where we were there was a pleasant and quick ferry across to the main part of San Antonio. And it takes a little over half an hour to walk. And anyway, there were beaches and bars right where we were, as well as pick-up points for the (free) buses to the major clubs.

Playa Xinxo, in this south-west part of the bay, has a nice reggae bar playing good reggae (that is, not simply Bob Marley). It was strangely empty at night - a fact that became less surprising when we discovered the prices! Ouch! Get a beer from the nearby shops and sit near the bar enjoying their music for free (wink, wink).

There are several ferries across the bay (to where the cheaper hotels are) and on to Playa Cala Bassa, the nearest beach with clear water.

We had an excellent 10 euro menu del dia at a restaurant called Sa Prensa.

If you want to relax by a pool, check out S'Hortet pool bar, close to the bus station at Hotel Llevant, C/ Ramón Y Cajal, 5, 07820 Sant Antoni de Portmany (Eivissa), Spain.

A Broken Backpack

Perfect 3 Days In Ibiza Itinerary

by Melissa Giroux | Last updated Nov 8, 2023 | Europe , Spain , Travel Tips

Wondering what 3 days in Ibiza would look like? Keep reading for our perfect Ibiza itinerary.

Ibiza is one of the Balearic islands and has a reputation as a sun-soaked mecca for partygoers, drawn by its legendary nightlife and world-class clubs.

Ready To Travel? Don't Go Without Travel Insurance.

Check Prices

While there is undoubtedly nowhere better to dance the night away, it would be very wrong to dismiss Ibiza as ‘just’ a party island.

The clubbing resorts represent only a very small part of this beautiful destination, and there is simply so much else to explore.

The Old Town just oozes historic charm, while the dramatic coastline and turquoise waters provide ample opportunity for relaxing and soaking up the Mediterranean sunshine.

There are cool markets selling incredible locally produced crafts, scenic villages dotted with the island’s iconic white houses, and delicious Ibizan cuisine just waiting to be discovered!

If you plan to spend 3 days in Ibiza, you might wonder how to see the best of its attractions and get a taste of local life.

So we’ve put together this helpful itinerary, sharing some of our favorite places to visit, eat, and stay throughout your trip.

We strongly recommend renting a car or motorbike for a long weekend in Ibiza.

Taxis can be expensive, and the public transport network is somewhat limited.

But be sure to rent your vehicle well in advance – demand is high!

Ibiza sunset

On the first of your three days in Ibiza, you will explore the attractions in its medieval Old Town, then head to one of its most popular resorts to try watersports or relax on the beach.

The 16th-century bastions of Ibiza’s Old Town are visible from right across the southern part of the island, especially at night when floodlights illuminate it in the darkness.

Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is filled with winding alleys, Renaissance architecture, and beautiful flowering courtyards.

Start your morning with coffee and fresh orelletes – a popular Ibizan pastry – at one of the many pavement cafes before starting to explore the cobbled streets.

The Old Town (known locally as Dalt Vila) was first settled by the Phoenicians and is largely pedestrianized. Take a walk around the massive walls that completely encircle it.

It takes around an hour to complete the loop, all the while enjoying exceptional views over the port and across to Formentera.

Part of the charm of visiting the Old Town is getting lost in its web of streets, but there are a few sights you must see!

old town ibiza

One is the partly derelict castle, composed of a variety of historic buildings that were constructed over a period of 1000 years.

It is closed to visitors, but if you head to the bastion Baluard de Sant Berna on the southern side of the ramparts, you can get some great photos of it.

Another must-see is the Museu d’Art Contemporani d’Eivissa, a contemporary art gallery located in an 18th-century powder store and armory.

Also worth a visit if you are an art lover is the Puget Museum on Sant Ciriac Street. Housed in a 15th-century mansion, it contains 130 works from local artists depicting life on the island.

For religious art, head to the island’s cathedral, close to the town’s highest point.

You can also appreciate the building’s magnificent architecture, incorporating Catalan Gothic and baroque styles. Pause for a moment to enjoy the lovely views of the town and port from the square just outside.

Before stopping for lunch, visit the Necròpolis del Puig des Molins. It may not look impressive, but this is an ancient burial ground and one of the sites that led to the town’s World Heritage status.

Some of the tombs date back to the 7th century BC, and the museum is fascinating, displaying objects such as jewelry, vases, and amulets that were discovered inside them.

After a morning of sightseeing, it’s time to enjoy the lively beach resort of Playa d’en Bossa.

Located halfway between Ibiza Airport and the Old Town, the region is packed with great shops, restaurants, and bars. It has a fun atmosphere no matter what time of day you visit – and, best of all, the longest beach on the island!

If you want to just sit back and relax, you’ll find plenty of beach bars offering sunbeds, parasols, and live DJs playing the latest summer sounds.

But if you prefer a more active afternoon, why not try one of the many watersports on offer?

Just about anything you can imagine is available here, including diving, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and jet-skiing. You can even hire a catamaran, lie back, and enjoy the coastal views!

Playa d’en Bossa is also the ideal spot to catch a ferry to the neighboring island of Formentera – the smallest of the Balearics and famous as the most tranquil.

Head back to the beautiful Old Town for the evening and feel the change in the ambiance as the lights go down!

There is no shortage of wonderful eateries to choose from, but we would recommend reserving a table at the excellent S’Escalinata, located near the top.

It has a wonderfully authentic atmosphere, with relaxing music and divine tapas. Its elevated position gives you some fantastic sunset views, and there are many beanbags spread outside from which to enjoy them.

For the second of your 3 days in Ibiza you’ll be soaking up the atmosphere of its third largest town before heading to the small but charming resort of Es Caná on the island’s east coast.

The perfect way to start the day is with a delicious breakfast at Passion Cafe, Santa Eulalia.

You’ll find these high-end cafes dotted across the island, offering everything from healthy meals to traditional (and not-so-healthy) favorites!

It’s now time to head into town to see what makes this family-friendly resort so popular!

One of Santa Eulalia’s highlights is its elegant promenade, lined with palm trees. It extends the entire length of the beach and features an impressive fountain, along with lovely miniature gardens.

If you walk to the right, you’ll come to the Santa Eulalia Bay beach. Here you can see the Santa Eulària River – the only river in the Balearics – at the point where it meets the sea.

Why not visit the town’s exclusive yacht marina, too? It’s a great place to take a stroll and admire the beautiful and luxurious boats moored there.

This is also the time to indulge in a little souvenir shopping. You’ll find a flower-filled rambla extending from the town hall in the center of Santa Eulalia to the sea.

It is lined with street vendors selling all manner of local crafts. There are many portrait painters, too, giving you the chance to chance to bring home a special memento of your time here.

Santa Eulalia has a distinctly artistic vibe, so before choosing a spot to stop for lunch, we recommend visiting one of the local galleries.

The Barrau Gallery on the S’Alamera Boulevard is a good choice, displaying the work of the Barcelonese painter Laureà Barrau i Buñol who first visited Ibiza in 1912.

santa eularia des riu twilight

We recommend spending your second afternoon in the small but popular resort of Es Caná, just a short distance from Santa Eulalia on the island’s east coast.

It has a beautiful central beach with an attractive harbor, and a surfing beach – Cala Nova – located just a 10 minute walk to the left. The waters are clear and the rocky area to the left of the beach is excellent for snorkeling.

Alternatively, head to the pine-covered hill to the left of the beach for an enjoyable but challenging walk!

After strolling back to Es Caná’s central beach, continue walking for another 10 minutes, and you will reach Cala Martina beach. Here you can watch the windsurfers or – if you’re feeling brave – take a lesson and try it out for yourself!

If you happen to visit Es Caná on a Wednesday, calling in at the local hippy market on the grounds of Club Cala Martina is a must!

This is the island’s original hippy market and the largest in Ibiza, packed with stalls selling items from all over the world, many of which are hand-made.

There’s more to the market than shopping, with drummers, live music, and a dedicated kids’ area.

es cana ibiza rocky waterfront

To end the day in this picturesque corner of Ibiza, treat yourself to a gourmet meal at the HAMBRË Restaurant, just 15 minutes from Es Caná.

The food is exceptional, with innovative dishes displaying the chef’s creative flair. There is an impressive wine selection and a relaxed, friendly ambiance that makes dining here a pleasure.

On the last of your three days in Ibiza you will be traveling to the north of the island, then on to see some of its pretty villages and towns.

One of the things that makes it easy to see Ibiza in 3 days is its relatively small size. The drive from the Old Town to the north coast takes under 40 minutes.

Here you will discover some real hidden gems and some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. This part of Ibiza is also very rural, providing an oasis of tranquility after a couple of days in the busier resorts.

You have many lovely spots to choose from but we would recommend including the secluded cove of Es Portitxol on your list. To reach it, drive towards Sant Miquel, then take the road to Sant Mateu.

Es Portitxol Ibiza hidden bay

Pass through the area of Isla Blanca, then park your car once you reach the part where the sidewalk is poorly maintained. From here you’ll take a 30 minute walk along a scenic coastal path until you reach the bay.

The turquoise waters in this remote spot are surrounded by fishing huts and you will often see the fishermen going about their work. The authentic and traditional atmosphere feels a million miles away from the bustling family resorts!

Alternatively, head to Cala d’en Serra. Surrounded by high, majestic cliffs, this oval-shaped beach is simply stunning.

Its clear waters are rich in marine life, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling.

Next, take the short drive over to Portinatx, once a small fishing village but now a growing resort with three beautiful beaches to choose from.

Stop here for lunch before setting off to see some more of Ibiza’s idyllic spots towards the center of the island.

aerial of cala d'en serra

Your first stop is one of Ibiza’s most beautiful white villages – Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera – which you can reach from Portinatx in under half an hour.

It is an interesting mixture of old and new, with traditional agriculture and restaurants coexisting with trendy bars.

Take a moment to relax in the main square and admire the whitewashed fortress church overlooking it, then check out the famous Bar Costa, filled with paintings swapped for food by hungry artists!

From there take the 15 minute drive to Santa Agnés.

This pretty little village is located in a valley filled with almond trees and features rows of traditional white houses. There are no attractions as such – just a unique rural charm that makes it feel as if you have stepped back in time.

The surrounding countryside is jaw-droppingly beautiful, especially in January when the almond trees bloom.

Finally, take the short drive east to the wine-making valley of Sant Mateu, where you’ll find the tiny village of Sant Mateu d’Albarca. Be sure to visit the church in the center of the town.

Built in typical Ibizan style, it features a large open-fronted vestibule and traditional bell tower.

At the end of your long weekend in Ibiza, enjoy a meal in the lush candlelit gardens of La Paloma, a Mediterranean restaurant in the little village of San Lorenzo.

Surrounded by fruit groves, it has a welcoming family atmosphere and an ever-changing menu. The farm-to-table ethos ensures that every meal contains only the finest and freshest local produce, much of it grown on-site.

I have always been an outdoorsman so becoming an adventure traveler was just the next natural step. I love nature, I love to get off the beaten path and I like to explore. I enjoy scuba diving and cars. And yes, Lina and I have a naked dog.

4 thoughts on “15 Best Things to Do in Ibiza (You Should Not Miss These!)”

I love the idea of parasailing in Ibiza to get a view of the area and admire its beauty. My husband and I want to experience all of the different opportunities when we travel. We’ll have to look into good deals for traveling there, as well as experiencing the daytime and night life.

Exactly!! So many people think of Ibiza as only a party place, but it has some sweet adventures to get up to as well!

I been to Ibiza almost 2 years back and feel like it is sitting on the beautiful in the Mediterranean Sea. It’s really a tremendous holiday spot and if someone is party man then keeps Ibiza first in mind. I have visited 3 beaches and among Santa Eulalia specked with pretty coves. The most things I like for Ibiza is its whitewashed villages and lush pine forest apart from lively parties. But I missed the green forest visit which is on my bucket list to fulfill. I heard and read about its amazing wildlife and hoping once to visit. You are right, the Slingshot Ride is wow though it’s scary seeing down but gives an enjoyable experience. When I was in the sky I was feeling what happen if I fell down but after some time getting comfortable. After that, I tried Parasailing but no dare for flyboarding. Thanks, Lina and David for this blog which makes me remember amazing days in Ibiza.

Beautiful, inviting pics of Ibiza Lina & David.

Discover the Mystical Es Vedrà

Es Vedrà, a majestic limestone rock formation, rises dramatically from the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea just off the southwestern coast of Ibiza. This enigmatic islet, reaching a height of nearly 400 meters, has long been shrouded in mystery and local folklore, captivating the hearts and imaginations of visitors and residents alike. Some believe that Es Vedrà possesses magnetic and spiritual energy, while others connect it to various legends, such as being the home of the sirens in Homer’s Odyssey or a part of the lost city of Atlantis.

To truly appreciate the mystical allure of Es Vedrà, make your way to the viewpoint at Torre des Savinar or the nearby Cala d’Hort Beach. From these vantage points, you’ll be able to marvel at the awe-inspiring sight of the rocky islet, which appears to float above the water’s surface. As the sun casts its warm glow upon Es Vedrà, the rock’s vibrant colors and rugged texture become even more striking, creating an enchanting visual experience.

For those seeking a more intimate encounter with Es Vedrà, boat trips and guided tours are available, offering a closer look at the islet’s intriguing features, such as its dramatic cliffs and abundant marine life. While swimming and climbing on Es Vedrà are strictly prohibited, visitors can still immerse themselves in its mystical energy and enjoy the stunning views from the surrounding waters.

As you stand before the majestic rock, you’ll find yourself captivated by its enigmatic presence, leaving you with a lasting impression of the island’s natural wonders and rich cultural heritage.

Explore the Cova de Can Marçà, an Ancient Smugglers’ Cave

Exploring the Cova de Can Marçà, an ancient smugglers’ cave nestled within the cliffs of Port de Sant Miquel on Ibiza’s northern coast, offers visitors a fascinating journey through time and the island’s intriguing history. Believed to be over 100,000 years old, the cave was once used by smugglers to store contraband goods, taking advantage of its concealed entrance and natural labyrinth of chambers and passageways.

A guided tour of the Cova de Can Marçà will lead you through the cave’s dramatic interior, revealing its impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations, as well as the remnants of its smuggling past. As you venture deeper into the cave, your guide will share captivating tales of the smugglers who once utilized this hidden sanctuary, providing a glimpse into a lesser-known aspect of Ibiza’s history.

In addition to its geological and historical allure, the Cova de Can Marçà is also renowned for its spectacular light and sound show. This immersive experience, which takes place in the cave’s main chamber, showcases a stunning display of multicolored lights that illuminate the cave’s natural features, accompanied by a mesmerizing soundtrack that echoes throughout the cavern. The combination of the lights, music, and the cave’s unique acoustics creates a truly magical atmosphere that enchants visitors of all ages.

After your tour of the Cova de Can Marçà, take some time to appreciate the breathtaking views of the surrounding coastline and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The cave’s clifftop location offers a stunning vantage point, making it the perfect place to snap some memorable photos of your Ibiza adventure.

Take a Day Trip to the Neighboring Island of Formentera

Taking a day trip to the neighboring island of Formentera is a fantastic way to explore the natural beauty, pristine beaches, and laid-back atmosphere that make this small island a true paradise in the Mediterranean. Located just 9 kilometers south of Ibiza, Formentera is easily accessible by a short ferry ride, making it a perfect destination for a day of relaxation and adventure away from the bustling Ibiza scene.

Upon arriving on Formentera, you’ll be immediately struck by its crystal-clear turquoise waters and the powdery white sands of its idyllic beaches. The island boasts some of the most pristine shores in the Mediterranean, such as the famous Playa de Ses Illetes, Playa de Llevant, and Cala Saona. These beaches offer visitors the chance to unwind, soak up the sun, and enjoy a leisurely swim in the tranquil waters.

For those seeking a more active experience, Formentera is also home to a network of well-marked cycling and hiking trails that crisscross the island, showcasing its diverse landscapes, flora, and fauna. Rent a bike or embark on a leisurely hike to explore the island’s charming villages, picturesque lighthouses, and ancient watchtowers, all while enjoying the breathtaking coastal views.

Another must-see attraction on Formentera is the Ses Salines Natural Park, a protected area encompassing the island’s salt pans, wetlands, and coastal dunes. This unique ecosystem is home to an abundance of bird species, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Finally, no day trip to Formentera would be complete without indulging in the island’s delicious local cuisine. As the day comes to an end, take a moment to watch the sun setting over the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant hues as you reflect on your unforgettable day in paradise.

Take a Wellness Break

Ibiza is a prime relaxation spot, known for its spas and yoga retreats. PLANNING A TRIP TO IBIZA

PLANNING A TRIP TO IBIZA

One of my favorite places to visit in the summer has to be Ibiza. When August comes around, the DJs come to town, there is nothing better than watching the sunset with a glass of Sangria and the beat of the latest dance track humming from nearby. I love Ibiza and everything about Ibiza, so I thought it was about time I shared with you our tips for planning a trip to Ibiza.

Tips for visiting Ibiza

Book early – Sounds obvious, but with many European (particularly Spanish) destinations, you can often get great last-minute deals. Ibiza is not one of them. Prices rocket up throughout the summer, so book flights and accommodation in advance.

Avoid the holidays – The DJs come to town from May and stay through to September, meaning it can be difficult to avoid the school holidays altogether. However, book your trip near the end of August and enjoy a less crowded (and more affordable) Ibiza throughout September.

Avoid San Antonio Bay – If you are looking for a few nights away from non-stop drinking and partying then stay in this area. For us, we aren’t in our earlier 20s (unfortunately!) so we prefer a slightly quieter holiday. We prefer to stay in San Antonio – just a 15-minute walk from all the bars but in a much quieter area of Ibiza. There are still plenty of restaurants and bars around plus a quiet, smaller beach you can enjoy during the day.

Ibiza Travel Guide

Villas – Never underestimate the wonders of renting a holiday villa in Ibiza. You can choose from a selection of different villas and apartments from Immoabroad.com, especially ideal for families, groups of friends, and anyone looking for a private pool.

Visit the Old Town – The Old Town can often be overlooked but it is worth planning a day trip to this picturesque paradise in Ibiza.

Avoiding the club queues – Most clubs open from 11 pm through to 6.30 am. The queues start to build from 1.30 am onwards so aim to arrive before 1 am to avoid the queues (especially in the August heat).

Drinking – Note that it is illegal to drink alcohol in the streets, so be sensible when walking from one bar to another.

Happy Hours – Ibiza can be expensive, so you will want to take advantage of the happy hours each bar offers.

Disco Bus – If you are planning to enjoy the clubs, get yourself acquainted with the Disco Bus. For just €3, these buses take you across the island and drop you off outside the club of your choice. Buses run every 30 minutes, all night long.

Dress Code – Unlike other major party destinations in the world, Ibiza really doesn’t tend to have much of a dress code. Anything really does go.

trip to ibiza

Getting there – The easiest way to get to Ibiza is by flying, however, you may opt for the 2.5-hour ferry from Valencia. Make sure you compare the prices of ferry and flight, as, during the height of summer, it can actually work out cheaper to fly – there are many ways to get to Ibiza so shop around.

Explore – If you have some time in Ibiza, rent a car and explore the island. Ibiza really is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and you can find every single one of them just by driving around and exploring. There are some great day trips to enjoy too – such as a day trip to Santa Eulalia.

Yacht rental –  Renting a yacht   for a day in Ibiza offers an unforgettable experience of luxury and adventure on the Mediterranean Sea. You can explore hidden coves, enjoy stunning views of the coastline, and relax on pristine beaches accessible only by boat. Various yacht options are available, allowing you to tailor your day to include water sports, gourmet dining, and personalized service.

Eat – You can’t visit Ibiza without eating some of the most amazing Spanish food. Head away from the bars and find local restaurants offering Paella, tapas, and Sofrit Pages.

Budget  – It may sound boring, but Ibiza is incredibly expensive. It is possible to enjoy Ibiza on a budget but whether you have €500 or €5000 it is always best to give yourself a daily budget and stick to it.

Staying in Ibiza – Ibiza is awesome yes but don’t forget to explore some of the other awesome destinations Spain has to offer; Madrid’s history, Barcelona’s food, and the many things to do in Benidorm .

Choosing the right club –  All the clubs come with their own theming and energy, so it can be difficult to decide which one to head to. My advice, look at the DJs playing whilst you are in Ibiza and head to the club with the type of music you like. A bad DJ can make or break a good night out! Head to Ibiza Spotlight for a full Party Calendar and more info on the clubs.

Not just for the young  – One of the best things about Ibiza is that it is full of variety. Yes, you will see the 20-year-olds walking around the streets in less than a bikini at 10 pm at night, but you will also see families, couples, and groups of friends of all ages. So whether you are 25 or 50, Ibiza is still a welcoming, fun place to be.

Enjoy the beaches – There are plenty of gorgeous Balearic island beaches and Ibiza is home to some of the best beautiful beaches in Spain , it can be hard to choose where to start! Check out this great guide to all the beaches and how to get to them >> Beaches in Ibiza Guide.

Best time to travel to Ibiza

  • June and August – are the perfect time for parties and clubs.
  • May, June, and September – are warm but cheaper times to visit
  • October to February – Avoid this time, these are the rainier and cooler months with many restaurants and bars closed during this time.

Best places to visit in Ibiza

Ibiza is known for its parties and sunsets but there is more to the island than that. Here are just a few things to do in Ibiza

  • Old Town – Also known as Dalt Vila, Ibiza’s Old Town is now an interesting UNESCO Heritage Site. Walk through the picturesque narrow cobblestoned streets and visit the charming restaurants, cafes, and gorgeous cathedral.
  • Cala d’hort – A lovely beach with gorgeous viewpoints.
  • Cala Saladeta – A picturesque beach that you can’t miss.
  • Cala Xarraca – A more secluded beach with clear waters.
  • Sa Caleta – Gorgeous dramatic red cliffs surround this beach area
  • Benirras – A popular beach spot to catch the island’s famous sunset.
  • Las Dalias Hippy Market – The market runs every Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm and Monday and Tuesday (summer only) from 7 pm to 1 am, selling souvenirs, accessories, and fashion.
  • Sal de Ibiza – a vintage market with designer items.

Kid-friendly things to do in Ibiza

  • Santa Eulalia Ferry – Take the ferry around the coastline to enjoy the beaches and breeze, stress-free.
  • Aguamar Water Park – Have fun at this water park, perfect for families of all ages. There are some thrilling rides but also play areas for young children.
  • Ocean Mania Waterpark – For children who can swim, this is a great waterpark to visit. You can enjoy the inflatable playground or try the assault course.
  • Cap Blanc Aquarium – Located in a large natural cave, this Aquarium is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. You can see all types of fish, octopus, rays, and sea turtles here.
  • Can Marca Caves – These eerie caves are an interesting place to explore and children love the music and light show at the end of the tour.
  • Cala Comte – is a smaller beach but quiet. The beach is clean and there are small coves to explore too. Water is clear too and the western part of this beach is popular for families.
  • Ibiza Horse Valley – This horse rehabilitation program was created in 2010, looking after mistreated or abandoned horses. You can book a half or full-day horse riding tour, which takes you through the mountains down to the beach. Riders must be above 12, so this is a great option for those with older children.
  • Mini Ibiza – Part of the Club de Campo country club – this is a spacious playground with a garden and play park. You can play with your children here or you can use the childcare service which includes arts, crafts, and free play activities.
  • Zorbing – Head to the Air Zone Park to try some zorbing – a large inflatable ball that you can spin, roll and bounce around it. Try playing orb football or head to the inflatables in the pool.

Ibiza Travel Tips

  • Use the bus – the bus in Ibiza is the cheapest way to get around the island. Fares range between €1.55 and €4 and bus routes can be found online here.
  • Bikes – Mopeds/scooters can be rented for €15 a day, ideal for day trips.
  • Aquabus Ferry Boats – You can catch a ferryboat from Ibiza Town to many of the beaches around Ibiza. These are affordable and make for a relaxing pleasant day exploring the beaches.
  • Car rental – Hiring a car in Ibiza is expensive, with cars starting at €40 a day and rising during the summer months. If you plan on traveling around all the sights and beaches of Ibiza or are staying in a quieter, more secluded area, then renting a car is a great option.
  • Taxis – There is a taxi rank at the airport, at ferry terminals, and in the main towns. You can also find taxis outside major resorts and they can be hailed down on the street. Taxis start at €3.65 then €1.09 per kilometer. It is also worth having your destination written down or on google maps, especially if you do not speak Spanish.

Driving in Ibiza travel tips

  • Book a rental car in advance to avoid queues on arrival.
  • You can also opt for the premium service when renting a car with certain companies; this means you can avoid queues when collecting and dropping off your car.
  • Compare prices on rentalcars.com
  • Make sure to add comprehensive insurance to your rental booking, Ibiza has tight roads, a lot of gravel, and many tight corners.
  • Make sure to have a credit card available; many rental cars will want a credit card on file.
  • Check speed limits, these vary from 30 to 100 km/h. There are cameras on many of the main roads checking speed.
  • There are night buses available to every nightclub and plenty of taxis for your journey home; don’t risk bringing your car to the clubs.
  • Avoid parking in Ibiza Town, spaces are limited and difficult.
  • Some beaches have paid parking for around €3 a day but spaces can be rocky and sandy.
  • If you are returning your car to the airport, make sure you allow plenty of time. You will need to refuel your car before dropping it off and there can be a wait time at the car rental office.

San Antonio

  • Popular nightlife area
  • Many accommodations, eateries, and bars
  • Water sports and beaches
  • Sunset views

Why it’s awesome: Previously a sleepy fishing village, San Antonio is one of the best places to visit in Ibiza today for a lively night scene. Ibiza’s second-biggest town, it sits next to San Antonio Bay. Tourism started to boom in the 1950s, eventually becoming a renowned partying hotspot by the 1990s. There are plenty of accommodation options to cater to the fun-loving crowds and numerous restaurants for a filling feed. The beach offers varied water sports and several spots are especially known for amazing sunset vistas. The huge variety of bars and huge nightclubs offer something to suit all night owls.

What to do there: Walk along the promenade at Passeig de ses Fonts in the evening to see the fountains lit up in various shades and watch the world go by from one of the pavement cafes. Snap a picture of the Egg, one of the most well-known attractions in Ibiza’s San Antonio. Bask on the beach and have a go at activities like swimming, parasailing, bungee jumping, and diverse water sports, join a cruise, and ride on a luxury yacht. For family fun and giggles with your mates, Ocean Mania Water Park is a great addition to any Ibiza itinerary. Witness a beautiful sunset from hotspots like Café del Mar and Café Mambo and get your night going in the bars and clubs along the lively West End. Catch a bus to some of the big-name clubs and spend your night dancing to tunes spun by famous DJs – a night in the clubs if the thing to do in Ibiza.

#4 – Christ, the Sacred Heart of Jesus – One of the most religious places to see in Ibiza

Christ the Sacred Heart of Jesus

  • Photo opportunities
  • Awesome views
  • Religious icon
  • Unusual sight

Why it’s awesome: Known locally as Sagrat Cor de Jesus, the monument of Christ, the Sacred Heart of Jesus is modelled after the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil. Standing 23 metres (75 feet) high, the detailed stone statue was carved by an eminent sculptor from Valencia. Completed in 1947, the statue honours islanders for having offered protection to a significant revolutionary during the Spanish Civil War.

What to do there: Travel the short distance out of Ibiza Town and walk up to the base of the looming monument. Gaze up at the glorious religious icon and soak up the views from the elevated position. Make sure that your camera is fully charged as you’re sure to want to take plenty of pictures. It’s definitely an Ibiza must-see.

Es Amunts

  • Nature spotting
  • Varied landscapes
  • Outdoor adventures
  • Culture and history

Why it’s awesome: Es Amunts is one of the best places in Ibiza for nature lovers and people who love exploring the great outdoors. Covering some 37,000 acres (15,000 hectares) and stretching from east to west, the protected parkland includes dramatic coastal areas, forested areas, jagged peaks, fields and meadows, and lots of native wildlife. The unusual landscapes are home to a fascinating ecosystem. A top place for hiking, visitors can also experience rich traditions and culture too.

What to do there: Strap on your hiking boots, fill up your water bottle, and set out to discover some of Ibiza’s most under-visited natural gems. The island’s biggest nature reserve, you can expect to see an array of flora and fauna as well as ancient buildings and beautiful landscapes. Many birds inhabit the area—binoculars will enhance your chances of spotting various avian species. Stop at picturesque coves, discover San Miguel Port, walk through olive groves, inhale the scent of juniper trees, see the interesting paintings inside the cave of Ses Fontanellas, soak up the spiritual vibe in Santa Agnes Church, and explore quaint villages filled with whitewashed homes.

#6 – San Juan – One of the nicer places in Ibiza to sightsee!

San Juan

  • Quaint village
  • Weekly market
  • Rustic appeal
  • Activities in nature

Why it’s awesome: San Juan is often said to be the last remaining village in Ibiza. Charming and quaint, it remains blissfully unaffected by tourism, retaining a rustic and rural ambience and appearance. There’s something of a hippie vibe and the way of life is laid back. It’s easy for visitors to travel back in time and get a glimpse of how Ibiza was long ago. The pine-covered hills offer terrific hiking opportunities and there’s a pretty beach too. The village hosts a large festival every June in honour of its patron saint.

What to do there: Take a leisurely walk through the traditional village, noting the difference between the local architecture and that commonly found in other parts of the island. Stroll along the main street, exploring narrow streets and cobbled alleys as you get a taste of local life. Call into a charming coffee shop and unwind on the sandy shores of Cala San Vicente Beach. The picturesque village church is well worth a quick photo stop. Don’t miss the delightful artisan market that sets up each Sunday in the main square. You can peruse a wide range of island goods, including jewellery, fresh produce, handmade soaps, and leather goods, and listen to local bands making beautiful music.

#7 – Es Vedra – One of the most amazing places in Ibiza!

Es Vedra

  • Amazing views
  • Snorkelling and diving
  • Explore caves

Why it’s awesome: Part of the Cala d’Hort Nature Reserve, the small rocky island of Es Vedra is one of the most striking natural hotspots in Ibiza. Reaching more than 400 metres (1,312 feet) tall, the uninhabited island is steeped in local legends and myths. It is thought to be the sacred island of the Phoenician moon goddess, as well as home to mythical creatures like sea-nymphs and sirens. Local lore tells of a giant who lived in the caves, and the island has featured in a number of movies and shows.

What to do there: Catch a boat across to the island and explore its rocky shores and unusual landscapes. The surrounding waters offer awesome snorkelling opportunities too. Walk around the island to spot varied birdlife and small reptiles scuttling across the rocks. You can explore caves, including that, used a place of refuge by Francis Palau y Quer, a friar who was banished from Barcelona in the 1850s. Soak up the views and enjoy the peaceful aura.

#8 – Eixample – An awesome place to visit in Ibiza for half a day!

  • Lively and trendy
  • Star-studded appeal
  • Cool night scene
  • Excellent shopping

Why it’s awesome: Eixample is the newer, more modern part of Ibiza Town. The name means “Extension” in English. It’s an especially great place for shopping, with a huge selection of stores selling almost anything you could ever want, need, or imagine. Brimming with soul and character, there are many eateries and bars. There are chilled beaches in the locale and the marina is a magnet for the jet-set and swanky yachts.

What to do there: Visit the trendy Marina Botafoch to catch a boat ride or ogle the luxurious vessels that dock there. You might even spot a celebrity or two as you wander around the port town. Eixample is a great place in Ibiza if you love to shop! Explore the shopping centres and markets and browse local island fashions, international designer goods, souvenirs, vintage items, and more. Unwind in Pau Park or up the excitement levels and have a flutter in the Casino de Ibiza. Spend a night (or more!) diving right into the local night scene, walk-in wide-eyed wander along Calle de la Virgen after nightfall, and dance to the beats at Pacha, often considered an Ibiza must-do for any cool clubbing fan.

#9 – Cap Blanc Aquarium – Awesome place to visit in Ibiza with kids!

Cap Blanc Aquarium

  • Family-friendly attraction
  • Underwater discoveries
  • Natural setting
  • Home to diverse sealife

Why it’s awesome: House within a gigantic natural cave and sometimes referred to as the Lobster Cave, the exciting Cap Blanc Aquarium is an Ibiza must-see for anyone keen to learn more about creatures of the ocean deep. Among the top Ibiza vacation ideas for families, the cave was previously used as a lobster nursery. Today, it houses a large selection of sea creatures and plants from the Mediterranean region.

What to do there: Learn more about Ibiza’s ocean flora and fauna as you explore the rock-surrounded aquarium and peer into natural pools and tanks. Observe various creatures beneath you as you cross wooden walkways over the water, seeing things like brightly coloured fish, starfish, lobsters, crabs, and sea sponges. You might even be able to see rescued sea turtles recuperating here before being released back into the wild.

#10 – Sa Pedrera de Cala D’Hort – A nice non-touristy place to visit in Ibiza

Sa Pedrera de Cala DHort

  • Under-visited destination
  • Peaceful and quiet
  • Local legends
  • Unusual features

Why it’s awesome: Often referred to as the Atlantis of Ibiza, the unusual cove and rock formations of Sa Pedrera are part of the stunning Cala d’Hort Nature Reserve. Local legends abound, given even more mystery by the unusual and otherworldly landscapes. The area was used as a stone quarry in times gone by, with much of the stone mined here to build Ibiza Old Town. It later became a popular hangout spot for hippies and free thinkers.

What to do there: Charter a boat for the easiest access to Sa Pedrera, or wear comfortable walking shoes to follow the rough and uneven track to the cove. Both ways of reaching the magical cove will lead past peaceful hidden gems. Feast your eyes on the unusual geometric formations both on land and under the glistening waters and spot later additions, such as carved Buddha images, created by hippie groups. If you love exploring the underwater world, this is a top spot for diving too.

#11 – Sant Mateu d’Albarca – Great place to visit in Ibiza for couples!

Sant Mateu d Albarca

  • Romantic ambience
  • Wine making
  • Rural charms
  • Laid-back lifestyle

Why it’s awesome: Located in the north of the island, the small and scenic island of Sant Mateu d’Albarca is one of the most romantic places to visit in Ibiza. A fabulous place to escape the crowds and discover a more traditional and rural part of the island, the village lies in a lush and fertile valley. The area is especially known for its wine-making heritage, and visitors can call into one of the wineries to learn more about the industry and sample delectable local wines. The vineyards and verdant countryside are ideal for hiking and cycling, and the village has a number of photogenic buildings to admire too. The village hosts a wine festival each December.

What to do there: Be enchanted by the pretty village as you stroll hand in hand with your love past traditional houses and the 18th-century church. Hear whispers from the past in the cemetery, see the large Via Crucis, and wonder at the large stones that stand proudly in the nearby fields. Relish the slower pace of life as your head into the countryside for scenic walks and bike rides through vineyards, olive groves, citrus groves, and almond plantations. Visit a winery or call into the cosy local bars to sip glasses of the local red wine with your love.

#12 – Formentera – A very cool place in Ibiza to go for a day

Formentera

  • Day trip from Ibiza
  • Outdoor activities
  • Cultural sites
  • Spectacular beaches

Why it’s awesome: Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic Islands, and it is easy to reach from its larger neighbour of Ibiza. It’s a great place to spend a day (or longer) when visiting Ibiza. Although busy in the peak season, it is often quieter than the more boisterous Ibiza. The island has gorgeous beaches, stunning sea cliffs, megalithic sites, traditional fishing villages, pine forests, sand dunes, and other interesting sights, and visitors can take part in diverse activities, including hiking, biking, and snorkelling.

What to do there: Explore the beautiful island by foot, bicycle, or rented scooter, stopping to climb historic watchtowers to soak up the vistas, follow boardwalks through the undulating sand dunes, spot diverse nature, and discover gorgeous hidden treasures. Go snorkelling in the aquamarine waters to marvel at the rich array of creatures that inhabit the sea.

Relax on magnificent beaches like Platja Es Arenals, Platja Migjorn, Platja Llevant, and Cala Saona. Visit the lagoons of Estany de Peix and Estany Pudent, saunter along the old Roman road of Cami de Sa Pujada, get a different perspective of the island with a boat trip, see the gigantic fig tree, and admire the views from the top of La Mola lighthouse.

Ibiza 2024: where to eat, drink and stay.

Chambao restaurant at Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay

If you’d have asked me where Ibiza placed on my travel bucket list a year ago, it would have been near – if not at – the very bottom. Despite people telling me they loved the Spanish island for years (and people really, really seemed to love it), the idea of busy nightclubs, hordes of 20-something Brits abroad, and overpriced food felt like anything but a holiday.

Of course, when I was eventually convinced to go on a trip with friends, I fell in love with Ibiza. As it turned out, stories of non-stop partying and overconsumption had clouded the island’s culinary pedigree. While the former is certainly still true, there is a second side to Ibiza that stands gastronomically supreme.

So, let’s dive into that other side—a side where you can drink well, eat better, and generally luxuriate to your heart’s content, starting with the perfect home away from home for foodie travelers everywhere.

Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay is perfectly positioned on the serene shores of Talamanca Bay, offering non-stop luxury from room to restaurant. It not only boasts the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever countered (a significant win, across thirty-four countries and two decades of travel experience), but a diver, five-star range of food and drink outlets that mean you don’t actually need to leave the hotel to try something new – a feat which, after a night or two at the clubs, cannot be oversold.

The group’s eponymous restaurant is the main draw, serving Nobu Matsuhisa's signature Japanese dishes, but there are also a number of dishes inspired by the island, and multiple areas – including the bar lounge, sushi bar, and main restaurant – to indulge in everything from sashimi and cocktails to a fully-fledged tasting menu. Chambao By the Beach, alternatively, is the hotel’s lidback chiringuito beach restaurant, specializing in freshly grilled fish, souped-up salads, authentic Valencian paella, and a wine list worth a long, long lunch.

WWE Raw Results, Winners And Grades After Great Wyatt Sicks Follow-Up

Amazon prime day 2024: this year’s dates and details are finally here, dana white is ‘not thrilled’ with long-time ufc contender.

In the daytime, the Bay Cafe and Beach Deck’s sophisticated menu gives you the rare – but absolutely brilliant – opportunity to snack on sushi on a sunbed, as well as order a huge range of cocktails, juices, and superior seafood (like their out-of control lobster roll, with wasabi mayo, chives, grated egg, and an absurdly generous amount of lobster).

Poolside dining at Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay's beach restaurant areas

While Nobu isn’t in the center of the aforementioned action, it’s seafront location does give you incredible access to hidden gems like Fish Shack (Punta dels Andreus sin número, 07819 Cap Martinet). Just a fifteen minute waterside walk away, this tiny restaurant is renowned for its heaving plates of fresh fish, cooked to perfection, and no reservation policy (a true exception for decent restaurants on the island). It’s low-key, but largely unparalleled.

If you’re looking for phenomenal seafood in the thick of it, however, you'll need to book in at Beachouse Ibiza in Playa d’en Bossa. Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the restaurant-cum-beach club captures the essence of Ibiza living, located directly on its palm-tree-lined shores. The menu, crafted by culinary director Gennaro Vitto and executed by the brilliant Sergio Cardeñosa, is one of those you’ll want to order everything from, too. Masters in the art of all things Mediterranean, you can order everything from turbot 'au beurre blanc' (with caviar, of course) to truffled french fries (not just with a truffle sauce, but shaved truffle) straight to your sunbed, or pop up to the main restaurant for a more traditional lunch or dinner set-up. It’s dawn ‘til dusk dining at its best.

The lounge at Beachouse Ibiza

With that said, no trip to Ibiza is complete without a trip to The Old Town, so be sure to head to Café Montesol when you’re ready to dust the sand off your shoes. Featuring a long terrace perfect for people-patching, it’s an ideal location to linger over stacks of pancakes in the morning and tapas in the evening, for which chef Alex Larrea’s whimsical takes on local delicacies won’t disappoint. The oysters, Stracciatella (with red tuna and pistachios) and Pimientos del padrón y romesco can’t be missed, as can’t a few glasses of vino from Spain’s best small producers.

Tapas on the terrace at Café Montesol, Ibiza

Just a few minutes away, La Familia Ibiza is yet another hidden gem, offering classic tapas of the highest quality. Living up to its name – with warm, familial service that feels genuine and passionate in equal measure – it’s one of the best “local” food experiences you’re likely to find.

If you’ve hit a tapas threshold but still want the taste of the best the Med has to offer, I’d point you in the direction of Ammos Ibiza . Another brilliant beachfront spot, this restaurant has a generous menu of elevated dishes that honor both countries’ culinary legacies. Recommendations include the crispy feta tyropita, succulent lamb chops, and every dip you can possibly fit onto your table.

It’s also a stone’s throw from the island’s best nightlife, which brings us neatly on to where to drink in Ibiza.

The sunset over Ushuaia Ibiza

For a blend of hedonism and escapism, there’s nowhere better than Ushuaïa Ibiza . This open-air venue hosts some of the biggest artists in the world, offering an unrivaled festival atmosphere. From ANTS to Calvin Harris, the lineup promises nights filled with world-class performances, days whiled away across its many pools, bars, and terraces, and a respectable bedtime with an 11pm closure.

If you fancy it, of course. Come night time, Hï Ibiza is the place to be (and, conveniently, it’s located right across the street from Ushuaïa). With its distinctive multi-room setup and cutting-edge design, Hï offers a 360-degree experience. High-profile residencies, large outdoor terraces, and bold production make it the most technologically advanced club on the island. Black Coffee is the current sell, but the Wild Corner, which is quite literally a DJ placed between two rows of bathroom stalls, can’t be missed.

All of which is to say, Ibiza should now be at the top of your travel bucket list, too.

ibiza trip

I'm a travel writer and here are six reasons (apart from clubbing) why Ibiza is a dream destination, from mysterious rocks to world-class hotels and beaches

  • MailOnline's Samantha Lewis says that the Spanish island 'never disappoints'
  • READ MORE: BA flight attendants save the life of 80-year-old passenger

Ibiza is known for being a party island, a place for letting loose and dancing until the sun comes up, but that has never been my experience of it.

Like many others, I fell in love with a side of the White Isle that reveals peaceful towns, gorgeous beaches and restful wellness retreats.

My first visit to Ibiza was on a family trip when I was in my early teens. We spent a week at a hotel in relaxing Santa Eulalia that was mere metres from a sandy beach.

I remember it as a laid-back holiday when I spent lots of time in the sea and ate ice creams almost daily. Just thinking about it now makes me happy.

Since then, I’ve been back to Ibiza a handful of times to chill and explore, most recently at the end of last summer when the island was starting to wind down for the season. It was as dreamy as always. Ibiza never disappoints - and here’s why…

1. World-class hotels

Ibiza has some pretty swanky hotels - ranging from boutique Boho-chic boltholes to re-imagined classics that place innovative interior design at the forefront.

One of the most coveted is the Montesol Experimental hotel, in the heart of Ibiza Town.

It originally opened as the Gran Hotel Montesol in 1933 and has hosted a diverse celebrity clientele, from Orson Welles to Pink Floyd and Princess Caroline of Monaco.

The elegant neo-colonial property was bought by the Experimental Group in 2021, which has given it a stunning makeover.

Guiding the redesign was Parisian interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon, the woman behind some of the most striking hotels in the world right now, such as the Grand Pigalle Hotel in Paris and Cowley Manor in Gloucestershire. She has transformed Montesol’s 30 rooms and three suites into an eye-catching utopia of pastel tones, with rattan lamps and funky-shaped furniture.

There’s also a charming cosmic theme, with moon motifs appearing throughout.

2. Sensational beaches

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches in Ibiza. The island is home to more than 80 of them, from pretty hidden coves to dazzling white-sand wonders.

Luckily, given Ibiza’s relatively small size (it takes about an hour to drive from top to bottom), you don’t have to limit yourself to just one or two.

Days can be spent hopping from beach to beach, working your way around as many as possible.

Be sure to check out Cap des Falco, a pebbly stretch in the south where you’ll find the Experimental Beach club.

Owned by the aforementioned hotel, the sandy beach is lined with white sunloungers and day beds that offer prime sea and sunset views. To reach it, the drive takes you across Los Salinas salt reserve, home to flocks of pink flamingos.

For a taster of the island's hippy vibe, head to Benirras in the island's north, where every Sunday drummers descend on the beach, fires are lit and the sunset is celebrated.

A safe bet for families is Cala Gracioneta, a white sandy cove where locals flock for the tranquil tree-lined setting, turquoise waters and relative seclusion.

3. Delicious local cuisine

Meals typically begin with an offering of fresh bread and aioli (mayonnaise with a strong garlic kick), washed down with carafes of wine and classic sangria.

Many restaurants will also serve staples such as patatas bravas, croquettes, grilled octopus and a good paella.

Ibiza's traditional paella, paella de marisco, is packed with calamari, mussels, prawns, clams and scallops and served in huge steaming pans that arrive at the table for everyone to share.

Other specialities worth sampling are butifarra sausage - a 'pate' consisting of pork, bacon and spices, thickly smeared on peasant bread - and sofrit pages, a hearty stew of mixed meats such as chicken, lamb and Ibicencan sausages.

4. Artisan shopping

Forget fridge magnets and keychains, Ibiza offers truly unique treasures to take home.

The island is known for its Es Cana ‘hippy markets’ where local vendors showcase their homemade wares - from kaftans, crochet two pieces, silver jewellery, leather bags and more.

Serious shoppers should head to the oldest and biggest, Hippy Market Punta Arabi, which is held every Wednesday (April to October) in Es Cana. It’s a vibrant and bustling affair, where you can easily spend an entire day winding through no less than 500 stalls. On Saturdays, the Las Dalias Hippy Market takes place in San Carlos.

These sit alongside the many local artisan markets dotted around the island selling everything from ceramics to homemade soaps.

5. Mysterious natural wonders

There is no doubt that Ibiza has a certain pull and some believe it's linked to the mysterious rock of Es Vedra.

Found off the island’s southwest coast, legend says that this uninhabited formation is the third most magnetic place in the world, after the Bermuda Triangle and the North Pole.

The limestone monolith, which rises to a height of 400 metres (1,312ft), is certainly mesmerising.

Don’t miss the chance to admire it from the cliffs above Cala d’Hort beach in Sant Josep, where the views are uninterrupted, and particularly atmospheric at sunset.

6. World-class wellness

Uncover the secrets to a long life at Six Senses Ibiza.

The luxury resort in the island's Bohemian north has taken hotel wellness to a whole new level with the launch of its ' RoseBar longevity club '.

The 'secrets' are revealed during a one, three or seven-day programme that incorporates a full wellness screening to access individual needs.

RoseBar programs offer guests the 'insights and tools' to help boost and stimulate the body's natural repair systems.

Treatments available in the extensive spa include hyperbaric oxygen therapy and IV vitamin drips, ice baths, infrared saunas and yoga and meditation classes.

About the author

Ronnie sedlak.

Ronnie grew up in the heartland of America, where he spent his early years surrounded by rolling fields and a tight-knit community. From a young age, he had this innate curiosity about the world. That curiosity eventually led him to pursue higher education, and he ended up graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in International Relations. His time in college really fueled his passion for understanding different cultures and perspectives.

Now, if there's one thing Ronnie loves more than anything, it's traveling. He's got this knack for finding the most off-the-beaten-path places that you'd never think to visit. He's been to bustling cities, serene beaches, and even some remote villages where he learned to appreciate the beauty in the small, everyday moments. His travel stories are the stuff of legends among our group of friends, whether it's getting lost in the narrow streets of Venice or hiking up a mountain in Peru, Ronnie always has a tale to tell.

But it's not just about the destinations for Ronnie; it's about the experiences and the people he meets along the way. He's the guy who will strike up a conversation with a stranger at a café and leave with a new friend. His openness and genuine interest in others make him a favorite wherever he goes.

When Ronnie isn't globe-trotting, he's got a few hobbies that keep him grounded and happy. He's an avid photographer and has this amazing ability to capture the essence of a place in his shots. You should see his travel photos, they’re like a window into his adventures. He also loves cooking, especially trying out recipes he picked up from his travels. Trust me; his homemade paella is to die for!

In his downtime, Ronnie enjoys reading, he's got a soft spot for historical novels and travel memoirs. He's also quite the outdoorsman; you'll often find him kayaking on a tranquil lake or cycling through scenic trails. And, of course, he's a huge fan of music. Whether it's playing his guitar or discovering new tunes, music is a big part of his life.

Overall, Ronnie Sedlak is one of those rare souls who truly lives life to the fullest. His love for travel, combined with his diverse interests and warm personality, makes him someone you just can't help but admire and enjoy being around.

IBIZA airport has been closed following a bomb threat on a Ryanair flight.

Spanish cops said today they had arrested a man on a flight to Milan's Bergamo airport after he claimed to have been carrying a bomb.

A passenger captured the moment the suspect was escorted off the plane in Ibiza

The suspect, who has not been named, was an Italian who had been drunk and raised the alarm once the aircraft was already off the ground.

The threat sparked chaos at the island airport, with doors shut for nearly an hour and no landings or take-offs allowed.

Flight operations are said to have been suspended from around 3.45pm to 4.30pm local time.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard confirmed that no bomb was located following the claims of the passenger.

They said: “With regards to the security incident that occurred earlier today at Ibiza Airport, a Ryanair plane bound for Milan Bergamo had already taken off when a passenger who was apparently under the effects of alcohol claimed he was carrying a bomb.

“The plane returned again to Ibiza and the relevant protocols were activated.

“Bomb disposal experts verified there was no bomb on board and the passenger, an Italian man, was arrested.”

A spokesman for Spanish airport operator Aena said a "security incident" on a plane at Ibiza Airport had suspended normal flight operations for "around 45 minutes".

He said he wasn’t in a position to say how many flights had been affected but confirmed three incoming flights had been diverted to Palma in Majorca, including one coming from London Heathrow.

“Three flights, one from Bilbao, one from London Heathrow and another from Bolonia in Italy, were diverted to Palma," the Aena spokesman said.

“The incident had knock-on effects for outgoing flights.”

FlightRadar data shows that 84 departures and 34 arrivals have so far been delayed today, while a further three arrivals were cancelled outright.

It's currently unclear whether any Brits were on the flight from Ibiza to Milan.

One video taken near one of the airport's runways allegedly showed passengers being taken off a Ryanair plane.

Earlier this month, a storm caused flight chaos at Majorca’s Palma Airport , forcing the suspension of flights for around two hours during a downpour that flooded parts of the inside of the terminal.

Pictures and videos showed planes grounded on flooded runways, water pouring through the ceiling and airport workers wading through knee-high flood water.
