“One of the highlights of our entire trip!!”

trip-advisor.png

We scheduled the trip for our first day of our vacation so we could get a feel of the island and go back and visit what we wanted to later on during the week.

“Perfection!”

I don't think we would have had such a great experience if it weren't for our awesome guide, Mandy. She was well versed in Hawaiian culture, the environment, which included every aspect of the environment.

“Brilliant Day Out”

Each stop was interesting and the highlight of the day (other than the stunning views) was our guide "Tiny".

7:00 am – 5:45 pm

Visit Oahu’s Most Scenic & Cultural Sights

O ur acclaimed Grand Circle Island Tour of Oahu is the most enjoyable and informative way to see the beauties of the entire island in a single day.

This exciting 120-mile excursion includes the key sites of Hawaii’s most visited island.

Your professional driver-guide will meet you in Waikiki in a deluxe tour vehicle and share the many natural and cultural landmarks of Oahu. From the South Shore with far-reaching views of the Pacific Ocean to the windward coastline surrounded by the towering Ko’olau Mountain Range, then onward to the famous North Shore where waves pound pristine white sandy beaches, and back to Honolulu – you’ll take it all in during this one-of-a-kind tour.

Tour Highlights:

  • Amelia Earhart Lookout , located on the south side of Diamond Head, commemorates the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to the US mainland in 1934, two years after flying across the Atlantic.
  • Exclusive Kahala Avenue is known as “Hawaii’s Beverly Hills”, and you’ll view the stunning multi-million-dollar properties in this affluent community while we travel toward the South Shore sea cliffs area.
  • Hanauma Bay Lookout was formed within a volcanic cone and is a preserved ecosystem alive with native marine life. A popular snorkeling spot, Hanauma Bay’s curved bowl is visible from the highway above. Your driver will make every attempt to stop briefly to view the Bay, but dependent on the current traffic and parking situation, may need to drive by for a quick glimpse from above. Hanauma Bay is closed to the public every Tuesday.
  • Halona Blowhole acts like an ocean-driver geyser as the ocean breezes push waves into the cave below and a hole in the rock formation shoots sea spray jets high into the air. We’ll strive to include the blowhole during your tour; accessibility is dependent upon parking congestion situation at this popular stop.
  • Nu’uanu Pali Lookout is the location of the 1795 battle in which King Kamehameha I victoriously united Oahu under his rule. The epic battle claimed the lives of hundreds of warriors forced over the Pali’s sheer cliffs. At 1,200 feet above the green and blue views of Windward Oahu, the Pali Lookout is one of Oahu’s most breathtaking scenic points.
  • Byodo-In Temple is a stunning replica of a temple in Uji, Japan, Byodo-In. It is nestled in the Valley of the Temples on the slopes of the Ko’olau Mountain Range, Byodo-In commemorates the first Japanese immigrants in Hawaii and was constructed entirely without nails. Its beautiful peacocks and hundreds of Japanese Koi Carp contribute to one of the most peaceful and picturesque locations on the island.
  • Kualoa Ranch , a private nature reserve and working cattle ranch, is a frequent filming location on the windward coast where Jumanji, Jurassic Park, Hawaii Five-O, Godzilla, and others were shot. Book the “Gold” version of this tour during check-out to include a delicious buffet lunch served at the ranch cafe. While at Kualoa, you’ll enjoy the “Legends & Legacy” narrated tram ride that will take you to view remarkable ancient Hawaiian sites.
  • Chinaman’s Hat , officially Mokoli’i, or “little lizard” in Hawaiian, an islet in Kaneohe Bay aptly named for the cone-shaped hat worn by Chinese immigrants. Chinaman’s Hat is will be viewed near Kualoa as your deluxe tour vehicle winds its way along the scenic coastline.
  • North Shore Surfing Breaks , including world-famous Sunset, Waimea Bay, and others, are viewed from your tour vehicle as it crosses the island’s big wave territory. The region is known for its fabulously large wintertime waves and international surfing competitions.
  • Historic Haleiwa Town , with its preserved old plantation character and surf town image, makes its shops and restaurants popular among visitors and Oahu residents. It’s the gateway to the North Shore for those arriving from Honolulu and is the area’s largest commercial center.
  • Dole Plantation is “Hawaii’s Complete Pineapple Experience”. Learn, see, and taste the fruit that is part of the island’s heritage and enjoyed throughout the world. Walk through Dole’s country store where delicious ice-cold Dole Whip treats are available. The quintessential final stop before heading back to Waikiki.
  • Fascinating live narration by a professional driver-guide
  • Amelia Earhart Lookout on the south side of Diamond Head
  • Exclusive Kahala Avenue drive-through “Hawaii’s Beverly Hills”

Hawaii Island Volcano Adventure Tour (from Hilo) The entire place is a delight to the senses - and Dexter, the world's greatest tour guide, gives you the best day ever! The day I spent touring the area in and around Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park was probably the greatest guided tour experience of my life! Of course, the beauty, majesty, and power of this unique place creates one of the most amazing natural galleries of art and science on earth. But what made my full day of adventure truly exceptional was having Dexter for our bus driver and tour guide. He put his whole heart into giving us the most personal and delightful experience we could possibly have - for a full 9 hours! His knowledge and passion for the land, history, ecology, wildlife, and people of the Big Island of Hawai'i radiated through his ability to identify and describe myriad points of interest in a manner that was clear, steady, engaging, informative, fun, and personal without ever becoming overbearing, monotonous, or canned. He answered questions with gentle unassuming honesty, shared personal perspectives without being intrusive, and made me feel as if he was personally offering me the very best experience of Hawai'i - as if I was an old friend and he was catching me up on all I need to know and love about this Pacific island hotspot. Thank you for masterfully and hospitably wrapping a week's worth of adventure, wonder, learning, and laughter into one of the best days I've experienced in all my fifty years on this planet! Mahalo and Aloha, Dexter - you're the best!!!

We booked the Oahu to Hilo Helicopter and Volcano tour and had several major issues. We booked about a week or two in advance, and honestly for almost $4,000 for the trip I expected more. I had to call the day prior to the flight to get my flight information. They had not sent the confirmation email until I emailed them. Then when we went to the airport and we're already at the TSA check, we found out that they made a mistake in the last name of my adult daughter. My email confirmation has her name correct but the Hawaiian airlines ticket was not correct. We had to go back to the Hawaiian airlines ticket counter to fix it as it was 5 am and the call center at Polynesian adventures was not open until 8 am. It's unacceptable to make mistakes like that as airlines often charge a name change fee or require patrons to buy a whole new ticket when names do not match. Once we arrived finding the tour bus was easy and the tour guide was nice. I explained the situation and he told me that someone would call me. They never did. We had 2 sightseeing stops and no one contacted me. He had me call the 800# and explained the issue. The customer service desk said they would try to fix it and would calm me back. They called back to say they couldn't help me. This resulted in us having to go get the issue fixed again upon arrival at Hilo for our return trip. The guided tour and bus was good. It was informative and the sight were acceptable. The helicopter tour was the best part of the day. The Blue Helicopter tour folks were great. I would never do business with Polynesian Adventures. They made mistakes, couldn't fix them and then made it our problem to spend time to get it fixed. For $4K, it is not worth it. Find another tour company.

Mo is awesome! The all day island tour with Mo was outstanding. I learned so much. She was very helpful and kind. Our tour with Vickie was great also. With Vicky we did the Pearl Harbor tour. I would recommend both tours with anyone. For lunch we had turkey sandwiches, a chocolate chip cookie and plain chips with water available. Our vacation was memorable with these ladies. Mahalo!

This was pointless. I'm a local and I was entertaining a visitor to Hawaii who wanted to see Pearl Harbor. If we went to Pearl Harbor by ourselves, it may be hit-or-miss if we can get tickets because there would be so many visitors. My visitor is a VIP so I needed to be sure that everything would run smoothly and we'd be sure to get onto the memorial. Tour companies procure tickets early and then provide them to their paying customers (at a price, of course). Even though it cost me $200 plus fees per ticket with this company -- while going by ourselves to Pearl Harbor would have cost much less -- I just went with this tour company so I could at least be sure to get a ticket. The sticker price for the tour is $204, I bought two tickets, plus tax it should have been $425. For some reason they charged me $451. However, when we got there, the tour company accidentally gave us tickets for the wrong day. They were expired tickets. We couldn't use them. We had to stand in the stand by line for an hour to get in. I bought these tickets to avoid having to do that! We could have and should have just driven to Pearl Harbor and taken the regular tour like everybody else. It would have been cheaper and we would have arrived earlier so there wouldn't have been such a long wait. This company is an unnecessary and ridiculously expensive middle man. Its only value is that it supposedly makes getting in at a specified time a sure thing -- but even that didn't happen for us.

We did a day trip to Hilo from Oahu and everything was smooth sailing from start to finish. Communication was spot on from Polynesian Adventure having received emails, text messages and a personal phone call a day (or 2 I can't remember) prior to my booking. Due to that I felt very comfortable/confident and assured with my booking. As for the experience itself I felt that I lucked out in regards to my tour guides: Ethan from Blue Hawaiian Helicopters was superb-he was beyond entertaining, super funny/witty and very knowledgable about the terrain we flew over; Dexter was our land tour guide and driver. He is Hilo born and raised so I could tell that he was very proud and passionate in sharing his home with us. He took us on extra stops that weren't listed on the website's itinerary which made the trip feel even more personalized and unique. These extra stops were some of the parks close to the black sand beach and a tiny town called Honomu. Although the helicopter tour was rad, we didn't get to go over the Kilauea crater due to current weather conditions. I am just thrilled we got to fly as I know there are possibilities of not flying at all because of weather hazards. Unfortunately we also missed the eruption too by 1.5 days! UGH! But overall it was still a memorable and enjoyable experience. My favorite was Akaka Falls-the lush landscape totally made you feel like you're in another world. I HIGHLY recommend this tour if you're looking for a quick getaway or something additional to your Oahu vacation. For reference we did our excursion on 06.21.23. Looking at a previous recent review its unfortunate that that mistake happened to them however my experience with PA everything went exceptionally well.

We had 3 tours on 3 islands with this company- all tours were excellent. Princess seems to contract with them, and I am so glad I had the chance to go on their tours. First, at Kona, we did a coffee store, the Place of Refuge and we would have done the painted church- but it was closed. Not the tour's fault it was closed, and we really loved the Place of Refuge- which is both beautiful and interesting. There is a lot to learn there. I feel very lucky to have visited. Second, the Pali lookout and Blowhole tour. A rather inexpensive tour, but the guide was lovely and the Pali lookout is quite amazing. Breathtaking. Our tour guide was a wealth if information. I learned so much. Her name means the little flower that grows in volcano. She described it as a little round flower. Third, the Road to Hana. Our guide's name (I hope I spell it right) was Kale- prounounced Kah Lei. He had the most beautiful tattoos on this arms and was much younger than most of our guides. He had so much information! I'd read several books on Hawaii (including Sarah Vowell's book- Unfamiliar Fishes- which attempts to deal with the colonization of Hawaii.) Even with a great deal of background I still learned a great deal from my guide and I was interested in learning. Keep in mind the drive is VERY long. The bathrooms may be "rough"- it's not the guide's fault, you get what you get since the Road to Hana is very rustic. You won't stop a lot- you can't- not and make it back!! We lined up on ship at 6:45 am for the tour and were back to the ship by 4:30. We drove all the way to Hana and ate boxed lunches at the black sand beach (really beautiful). Along the way we saw many changes in the ecology as there are many microclimate shifts along the way. Wonderful plant life- and many beautiful views. The road is scary- in many places it is one lane. Locals know how to drive it, but tourists do not. And I looked up the accident rate there AFTER my tour. Lots of accidents on this road- no surprise there. But it's a unique experience and I would not have missed it for anything. Also, we saw whales as we left Lahaina- which was very special! Polynesian tours certainly provides a good education to people who take their tours. I felt all my guides were able to educate me in their different ways about the islands I visited. I'm very grateful for the experiences.

We did an island tour with Polynesian Adventure Tours since we decided not to rent a car on this trip. We are so glad we decided to do this as our experience with our tour guide Kimo was wonderful! He was extremely engaging the entire time, gave us great information, and hilarious on our drive. He did such a great job providing us with tons of information and history during our site visits and also while he drove. Our tour: Waimea Valley - Waimea Falls Brodie-in Temple & Garden Dole Plantation Halona blowhole Nu'uanu Pali state park Thank you for the great experience! Highly recommend!

We took several trips with Poly Ad while we were visiting. We took the Overview of Oahu. Wally and Albert got us around and everything was great. We stopped at Coral Kingdom for Huli Huli chicken. Everything was great and tasted awesome! Great trip!

I wasn't completely happy about my tour experience. I booked the road to Hana tour. First they were late then Upon pick up my 6'4 husband was picked up by a full tour bus and didn't have a seat. I was upset looking at my husband forced to sit on the front steps without a seatbelt. I was not happy considering the price you pay for this tour. Not very safe if you ask me. They took us to another bus when I contacted the company that i wasn't happy I didn't even get a response back.

Below is a sampling of specialty tours found on Oahu.

Chocolate Factory Tour

Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. to grow cacao commercially, and at bean-to-bar maker Manoa Chocolate ★★ , 315 Uluniu St., Suite 203 ( www.manoachocolate.com ; 808/262-6789 ), you can find out more about Hawaii’s burgeoning chocolate scene and see what it takes to turn cacao beans into smooth chocolate bars. You’ll taste the beans through every step of the process and be able to compare Hawaii-grown chocolate with chocolate from around the world. A rare treat.

Ko Hana Rum Tour

Discover how rum is made, from grass to glass at Ko Hana ★★★ , 92-1770 Kunia Rd. #227 ( www.kohanarum.com ; 808/517-4067 ). But this is not just any rum. This is Hawaiian agricole rum, distilled from pure cane juice, fresh-pressed from heirloom varieties of Hawaiian sugarcane. Most rum you see on shelves starts from molasses, whereas at Ko Hana, it begins with sugarcane, and each bottle is labeled with the varietal it was distilled from. The tour in Kunia, in the heart of Oahu’s farmland, will not only give you sweeping views all the way to Diamond Head, it will take you through the cane fields, the distillery, and the tasting room to sample white rums alongside barrel-aged ones. Tours are $25 for adults.

Take a tractor-pulled wagon ride through the tropical fruit groves of Kahuku Farms ★★ , 56-800 Kamehameha Hwy. ( www.kahukufarms.com ; 808/628-0639 ). For the smoothie tour ($16  for adults, $14 for children 5–12), you’ll learn about the apple banana (short and tart), lilikoi (passion fruit), and pineapple, and then taste them all in a smoothie made on the spot at the cafe. Oh, and don’t miss the grilled banana bread topped with made-on-the-farm ice cream and haupia (coconut) and caramel sauce.

Sha’Carri Richardson sprints onto US Olympic team after winning 100 in 10.71 seconds

preloaded gallery image

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Two steps before she reached the finish line, Sha’Carri Richardson started pounding her chest.

She knew she had it won. Anyone who doesn’t see her as the sprinter to beat later this summer at the Paris Olympics should probably think again.

Richardson notched the latest stop on her “I’m Not Back, I’m Better” tour with a 10.71-second sprint in the 100 meters at U.S. track trials on Saturday that makes her the fastest woman in the world this year and officially earned her a trip to France where the women start racing Aug. 2.

Sha'Carri Richardson celebrates her win in the women's 100-meter run final during the U.S....

The final marked the third time in this meet that Richardson did not get off to a stellar start. It also marked the third time in the meet she finished well in the clear.

She was .09 seconds ahead of training partner Melissa Jefferson, the 2022 U.S. champion. Another sprinter in coach Dennis Mitchell’s camp, Twanisha Terry, finished third and also earned a spot on the women’s 100-meter team.

“I feel honored,” Richardson said. “I feel every chapter I’ve been through in my life prepared me for this moment.”

A few seconds after her line-crossing celebration, she was down on a knee, clearly caught up in emotion.

“The emotion was just joy because of the hard work I put in, not just physically on the track, but mentally and emotionally to grow into the mature young lady I am today,” she said.

It has been quite a ride for the 24-year-old Texan. Three years ago, she won this race, too (in 10.86 seconds), only to see the victory stripped because of a positive marijuana test that laid bare everything from her own struggles with depression to an anti-doping rulebook that hadn’t changed with the times.

That’s when the hard work began. What emerged, Richardson said, was a better and more in-tune person than the one who lit up this same Hayward Field back in 2021 — her orange hair flowing, looking like this sport’s breakout star.

It took nearly two years for the results to show up on the track again. But she won the national championship in 2023 and declared “I’m not back, I’m better,” then backed that up a month later with the world title.

“I’d say the message I’m sending out is to believe in yourself no matter what,” Richardson said, echoing much the same thoughts from last year in Budapest. “You want to remain solid in yourself. Stay grounded in yourself and your hard work.”

It’s risky business to hand her the gold medal in Paris given the competition she’ll face. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson and two-time defending champion Elaine Thompson-Herah have 19 Olympic medals between them — Richardson has never been to the games — and all are slated to run at next weekend’s Jamaican trials.

A recent injury to Thompson-Herah has mixed up that math. Meanwhile, Fraser-Pryce has been a rarely seen commodity in 2024 and Jackson is the two-time world champion at 200 meters — a race Richardson finished third in at worlds and is entered in next week at trials.

Back in the U.S., the Americans are feeding off each other, and Mitchell, a huge name in sprinting in the 1990s, pulled off a rarity by placing all three of his best sprinters in the Olympics.

“The odds of getting all three is probably a point-zero-zero-zero-zero-zero-something,” Mitchell said. “But those girls didn’t care about those odds. They went out there and had a plan and they executed well and they deserve everything they got.”

Given she bettered the season’s best time despite a mediocre start and after pounding her chest and pulling up before the end of the race, it’s hard to argue that Richardson is the favorite. Asked if she had a time in mind for the Olympics, she did not bite.

“I just know that if I execute and run the race I’m trained to prepare for that the time will come with it,” she said.

Next up, Noah

Next up, it’s Noah Lyles’ turn. Before Richardson took center stage, the reigning world champion at 100 meters ran his preliminary heat in 9.92 seconds, the fastest time in the first round of men’s qualifying. He’ll race Sunday for a spot in the Olympics.

Lyles, like Richardson, dealt with depression in the COVID-fueled days of the Tokyo Olympics. He made it to the games but took a bronze medal in the 200. The last 24 months have been about adding the 100 to his repertoire. He looked in good form in his first race this week at Hayward.

“It’s been ‘a long time’ for a long time,” Lyles said. “And I’m just so glad to be happy, glad to be out here, glad to be racing and feeling like myself.”

Other tickets punched

Michigan State’s Health Baldwin won the decathlon to make his first Olympic team. He’ll be joined by Zack Ziemek, who is on his third team, and Harrison Williams, who is also making his debut.

Jasmine Moore, Keturah Orji and Tori Franklin earned the three spots in women’s triple jump.

Ryan Crouser overcame a balky elbow to win his eighth outdoor national title. He’s looking for a third straight Olympic gold medal. Joe Kovacs, who finished runner-up to Crouser at both Olympics, finished second and Payton Otterdahl came in third.

Speaking to the strength of the U.S. in the event, Crouser said “if the whole world came to trials they’d get one, maybe one, spot” in the Olympics.

This story has been updated to correct that Zack Ziemek has qualified for his third Olympic team.
