Travel Tips

Don’t wing it - be prepared for your next family trip! Check out our tips for family travel.

Traveling with Infants & Children

We want to help make your flight smooth and comfortable for your little ones. Find out some tips and resources to help make your trip as enjoyable as possible!

  • Bring a well-stocked carry-on bag, including diapers, wipes, bottles, snacks, a sippy cup, a book or two, and some quiet toys. If the child is old enough, download a couple of educational videos onto an iPad. This is a great attention-holder.
  • If you're bringing electronics for your kids, make sure they are charged and ready to go before your flight.
  • Comforting toys are great but keep other passengers in mind. Leave the noisy toys at home.
  • More leg room for you and extra space for toys is always a good thing on a flight with kids. Our stretch seating is a great way to get the space you need.
  • Babies and young children do not know how to clear their ears to reduce the pressure during takeoff and landing so unless your child is asleep, you will need to help them. We suggest a bottle for infants and gum or hard candy for older kids.
  • We offer snacks, and beverages for sale on most flights (something to consider if the toys aren’t working or you run out of snacks)!
  • If you opt for packing your own snacks, bring along a Ziploc bag for wrappers and other garbage. This will come in handy throughout your flight with kids.

Safety and Policies

We know you want to make your child's trip easy and safe. There are some federal rules we need to follow to ensure the safety of infants and children.

  • Infants can travel for free, sitting on your lap from seven days old up to his/her second birthday. Please Note: A birth certificate may be requested for age verification purposes if the infants' age appears questionable.
  • Lap children may not sit in any seat that has an airbag seat belt installed which includes row 1 on most aircrafts.
  • Two adults with two lap children cannot sit in the same side of a row because there are only four oxygen masks per every three seats.
  • Only one child is allowed per adult lap. If you are traveling with two infants and you are the only adult in your party, you will need to purchase a ticket for them and have an approved car seat for the second child.
  • You may choose to purchase your little one his/her own seat and use an approved car seat on the plane, this is the safest way, if you can, we encourage you to do so . Our seat widths vary depending on the size of the aircraft. Minimum seat widths on the A319 and A320 are 17.4” and on our A321 minimum seat widths are 16.5”.
  • Car seats cannot be placed in emergency exit rows, in the rows directly in front of or behind emergency exit rows, or in the very first row. We also suggest placing car seats in window seats so they do not impede access to the aisle by other passengers.
  • If you're bringing a stroller, you can take it to the gate but it must be checked from there.
Pssst... Frontier Tip:  Make sure your car seat is approved by the FAA. Look for the label on it that states, “This restraint device is approved for motor vehicle and aircraft use.” Use of the FAA-approved AMSafe Aviation C.A.R.E.S. child harness device is also allowed.
  • We fully support a woman’s right to breastfeed on our flights. Breast pumps are also welcome aboard.
  • We consider a breast pump to be a medical device. View the Frontier medical device policy under Sports Equipment and Special Items .

Unaccompanied Minors

Effective November 1, 2018, Frontier Airlines will no longer accept children traveling alone under the age of 15 yrs of age.  Any child under the age of 15 must be in the same reservation as an accompanying adult.

Traveling with Pets

Pets are like family. That’s why we’re committed to keeping your dogs, cats, hamsters, and more safe and sound on their trip. If you would like to take your critter on your next trip, there are few things you need to know first.

Need to add pets to your reservation during initial booking? Or add them on to an existing reservation? Learn how here .

  • A one-way, directional charge will apply and may be paid in advance during booking. If you do not pay in advance, you’ll need to pay when you check-in your pet. In addition to the travel container for your pet, you are allowed either a personal item (8”H x 14”W x 18”L) OR a carry-on bag (10”H x 16”W x 24”L). An additional fee will apply for the carry-on bag.
  • We do not allow pets to be checked as baggage.
  • Be sure to look into the applicable laws, customs, and other governmental regulations, requirements or restrictions of the country, state or territory to which your animal is being transported. This is your responsibility. Also remember to obtain your pet’s required health documents.
  • We recommend that pets have no food or water within four hours of departure.
Pssst... Frontier Tip: Make your trip a little smoother by checking what the state requirements of your destination are regarding animals - some require health certificates, others don’t!
  • Only certain animals are allowed in the cabin:
  • Domesticated dogs and cats must be minimum 8 weeks of age.
  • Domesticated dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, or small household birds may be carried on flights within the United States.
  • The following species are never accepted : Large birds (e.g. parrots, macaws, cockatoos, birds of prey), rodents (including mice, rats, squirrels), beavers, ferrets, reptiles (including snakes), amphibians, spiders, and insects (and please, no lions, tigers, or bears).
  • Pets are allowed in the cabin on all domestic Frontier flights.
  • You may not sit in row one or an exit row when traveling with a pet.
  • For safety reasons, your pet must remain in the travel container at all times. If your pet is disruptive, it’s up to you to soothe him/her without taking him/her from the pet container. Please Note: While it might be tempting to help comfort your pet, most veterinarians advise against sedating pets for travel since the effects of tranquilizers on animals at higher altitudes are unpredictable.
  • We ask that you do not provide food or water to your pet while traveling on the aircraft. The stress of traveling, the motion of the aircraft, and other factors could make your pet uncomfortable.
  • Please Note: No oxygen will be administered to a pet in the event of an emergency.
  • Your pet needs to be harmless, not disruptive, odorless, and require no attention during flight.
  • The travel container must be large enough for the pet to stand, turn around, and lie down in a natural position (you want your pet to be comfortable, don’t you?). The carrier must also fit underneath the seat in front of you. There may be certain seats that cannot accommodate your pet container, but we'll work with you to get a seat assignment with space.
  • Maximum dimensions for a pet container are 18" length x 14" width x 8" height.
  • We recommend the container be a soft-sided case.
  • Your pet must stay in its container at all times.

Pet Health and Wellness

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulates the transport of pets within the U.S. While we do not require a health certificate for pets carried in the cabin traveling within the U.S., upon arrival, a certificate may be required by the specific state in which you are landing. For clarification, please call your veterinarian or see the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Veterinary Services.

For international travel, with a Service Animal, a health certificate is required. Each country may have vaccination requirements beyond the requirements listed here. Consulates can provide more information regarding other diseases for which your pet must be vaccinated.

International Pet and Service Animal Restrictions

Effective immediately, Frontier Airlines will not accept new pets for International Travel. Frontier will only accept service animals for international travel with specific requirements.

For International travel all service dogs must have:

  • A  CDC Dog Import Form   receipt; and
  • Be at least 6 months old; and
  • Appear healthy on arrival;
  • Proof of a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner; and

Service dogs from high-risk countries must provide additional documentation, upload a photo of their service dog, and obtain government endorsed veterinary documentation. For more information visit the   CDC's website

  • Must be dated based on country on entry:
  • Within 30 days of entry into Puerto Rico
  • Within 10 days of entry into the U.S.
  • Must include:
  • Name and address of the owner
  • Animal species
  • Country of origin/destination
  • Immunization against rabies within 12 months for: adult pets 3 months of age or older for all destinations except Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico also defines adult pets as 4 months of age and older and requires immunization against rabies within 6 months. Please Note: The immunization must be administered no more than one year and no less than 30 days prior to international travel. If a pet received a rabies booster less than thirty days before an international flight, proof of the prior rabies shot is required.
  • Additional requirements by country
  • The following vaccinations are recommended: hepatitis, PIP and leptospirosis.
  • Puerto Rico requires a sturdy collar and two identification tags. The tags should include both your permanent address and telephone number, along with an address and telephone number where you can be reached while traveling.
  • The rabies vaccination certificate must be issued, in either English or French, by a licensed veterinarian from the country of origin. There is no waiting period after the vaccination is administered. Canada does also recognize the three-year rabies vaccination. Please note that if validity date does not appear on the certificate, then it will be considered a one year vaccination.
  • A certificate of health must be in English or French and completed by a licensed veterinarian. It should identify the animal, the dates of vaccination, the manufacturer and the expiration date of the rabies vaccine.
  • In addition to all other documentation requirements, parasitic treatment must be included in the health certificate

Puerto Rico Entry Requirements

Each animal traveling to and from Puerto Rico must be accompanied by an official health certificate valid for 30 days from the date of travel. This includes service animals.

The health certificate must contain:

  • An official health certificate stating that the animal did not originate from an area quarantined for rabies. The official certificate veterinary inspection must be signed by an accredited veterinarian in the state or territory of origin and will be valid for 30 days from the inspection date.
  • A certificate of vaccination against rabies within six months before travel for pets more than four months of age.
  • Treatment for external parasites within 72 hours prior to entry and so stated on the health certificate by the accredited veterinarian.
  • An official individual identification (microchip or a collar with metallic ID Tag).

U.S. Virgin Islands Entry Requirements

Dogs and cats in cabin to and from the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to standard domestic requirements, all pets (including service animals) arriving in the U.S. Virgin Islands are required to have:

  • A health certificate stating that the animal did not originate from an area quarantined for rabies.
  • Rabies vaccination within six months prior to the date of travel, except those dogs and cats less than 12 weeks old.
  • Identification of ownership with address and phone number is recommended.

Frontier Airlines is a growing ultra-low-cost carrier in the U.S. As such, it can be a cost-effective airline for families that don’t require additional amenities such as advanced seat selection or checked baggage allowances. Low-cost carriers aren’t for everyone, so knowing what you can expect when flying this type of airline is important, especially with kids in tow.

Here’s what you can expect when you fly Frontier Airlines with kids.

Frontier Airlines flies to and from 73 domestic destinations and over a dozen international destinations in 10 countries . The airlines’ international destinations include Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ); San José, Costa Rica (SJO); Cancún, Mexico (CUN); and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ).

According to its website, some of the airline’s most popular routes include Atlanta (ATL), Cincinnati (CVG), and Denver (DEN) to Las Vegas (LAS), and Denver, Philadelphia (PHL), and Trenton (TTN) to Orlando (MCO). Frontier Airlines’ main airport hub is Denver .

Frontier also partners with ultra-low-cost Mexican airline Volaris, which operates flights through Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, and the U.S.

Joining the Frontier Miles program is free.

As a member, you can earn 10x miles per dollar spent on Frontier purchases. You can also earn miles through Frontier’s travel partners, such as Telefora and Dollar Car Rental, and by spending on the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard ® . Miles can be redeemed for award flights (starting at 10,000 miles one-way).

Elite Status Points are accrued at the same 10 points per dollar rate through qualifying purchases on the Frontier Airlines World card and other eligible purchases and count towards elite status.

Elite Status

Elite Status Points accrue annually and give members status for the remainder of the year in which status is earned and the following year. Frontier Airlines has 4 elite status levels: Elite Silver, Elite Gold, Elite Platinum, and Elite Diamond.

  • Silver : Earned after 10,000 miles; 12x earnings multiplier
  • Gold : Earned after 20,000 miles; 14x earnings multiplier
  • Platinum : Earned after 50,000 miles; 16x earnings multiplier
  • Diamond : Earned after 100,000 miles; 20x earnings multiplier

Some Frontier Miles status perks apply to everyone in your booking. For example, Elite Silver status members get Zone 2 priority boarding for everyone in the booking. Those on the same booking with an Elite Diamond status member also get a second checked bag free.

Family Pooling

Frontier allows “families” to pool their miles together to redeem free flights even faster. Your family can be composed of family members, friends, etc.; you do not have to share an address. However, 1 person in the family has to serve as the head of the family, and only those with Elite Silver status or a Frontier Airlines World card are eligible. The head controls how and when the miles are spent.

You can have up to 8 people in the family; no minimum or maximum number of miles is required to participate.

Family at Frontier check in

While not an elite status program, Frontier Airlines’ Discount Den is a membership program that offers reduced airline rates and other perks . A perk that can be incredibly valuable to families is that kids fly free on select dates and flights. If your plans are flexible, you can use this option often.

Discount Den is $99.99 for the first year and $59.99 annually after that . Members can look forward to the following benefits:

  • Lowest fares guaranteed
  • Kids Fly Free
  • Exclusive deals, including promotions, only available to Discount Den members
  • You can book Discount Den fares for up to 9 people on the same reservation

If you travel frequently to and from destinations serviced by Frontier Airlines, Discount Den could come in handy.

Frontier’s GoWild! All-You-Can Fly passes let you book unlimited domestic and international flights as long as your pass is valid. The pass can be a monthly subscription or an annual pass .

Bookings are not confirmed until the day before departure for domestic travel, starting 10 days before international departures. Keep in mind that the flights aren’t entirely free. You’ll still be responsible for at least $0.01 for the airfare, plus applicable taxes and fees . The pass does not include any add-ons like seat selection or baggage, but you can collect miles when flying with a GoWild! pass.

A monthly GoWild! pass is valid for 30 days after purchase and currently costs a $99 enrollment fee. After that, it will renew monthly for $149 per month. Annual GoWild! passes for 2024 to 2025 are $599 per year .

Frontier Airlines Discount Den and GoWild! All-You-Can-Fly passes allow travelers to pay less for airfare even though they are still responsible for applicable taxes and fees. The perks of each vary slightly, but neither saves money on the add-ons that can add hundreds of dollars to the price of a ticket.

Frontier Airlines does not have its own airport lounges. However, you can still utilize a Priority Pass membership , a perk of several credit cards , to get airport lounge access no matter which airline you’re flying with.

Flights on Frontier Airlines can be booked directly on FlyFrontier.com . When searching for flights, you can add a lap infant to a booking and search for flights you can redeem with miles.

The results page will show standard, Discount Den, and GoWild! pass rates for all flights, even if you aren’t logged into your account .

Frontier Airlines is an ultra-low-cost carrier, and, as such, the final cost of an airline ticket could be significantly greater than what you thought it would be. For example, you’ll be required to pay for a carry-on and your checked bag when selecting your seat. This can be very inconvenient for a family traveling with multiple people. However, there are a couple of ways to bring the cost down.

In addition to Discount Den members being able to take advantage of Kids Fly Free fares, you can also bundle amenities to save on costs. The Works Bundle includes a carry-on bag, a checked bag, seat selection, allows you to board first, and more. The Perks Bundle includes a carry-on bag, checked bag, and seat selection. For reference, seats start at $11 per person per one-way flight, and checked bag prices depend on the flight. Seats could cost much more than that per person per one-way flight. A checked bag could cost $49 if you pay during booking, but it will be $58 to add before check-in and up to $99 at the boarding gate .

If your family intends to fly Frontier Airlines often, having a Discount Den membership or a GoWild! pass makes sense.

Flying With a Lap Child

You can add a lap child to your reservation when booking online. You can have 1 lap child per 1 adult . The first and last name, gender, and birth date of the infant can be added at the same time you add your own information. Like other airlines, a lap child must be younger than 2 years old and can fly for free on the lap of an accompanying adult.

While adding a lap infant to your reservation is free when booking online, you may have to pay to add your child if you do so later. Frontier charges at least $35 to chat with an agent during booking .

Priority Boarding for Families

Frontier flight attendant pilot and child

Frontier has 6 boarding zones , starting with those passengers with special needs. The next zone, Board First, is reserved for those who purchase a carry-on + Board First combo and Elite Platinum and Elite Diamond status members.

Zone 1 is for all Elite members, followed by what the airline calls Courtesy Boarding . This is where families with small children under 3 years old and any passengers requiring additional time can board.

The remaining zones are Zone 2, 3, and 4. Zone 2 Priority Boarding can be purchased ahead of time.

Frontier Airlines charges for everything, even $5 to check in for your flight on their website vs. their mobile app. If you elect not to bundle your add-ons, at least add everything at the time of booking before the prices increase even further.

Unaccompanied Minors

Frontier Airlines does not have an unaccompanied minors program . The airline discontinued the program in 2018. Travelers 15 years old and older can travel by themselves, but travelers younger than 15 must travel with an accompanying adult.

Frontier Airlines, thankfully, has a seating policy for families similar to that of other U.S. airlines. When 1 or more passengers on the same reservation is 13 years old or younger, they will be seated at least in an adjacent seat from the accompanying adult . This comes at no additional cost as long as the following conditions are met:

  • The child and accompanying adult must be on the same reservation.
  • Adjacent seats must be available when the booking is made.
  • The adult may choose seats for everyone in the reservation or skip seats for the entire reservation. Once seats are assigned, no changes can be made.
  • It’s physically possible to honor the adjacent seat guarantee based on the airplane’s seat layout.

Snacks and Beverage Service

Frontier sells snacks and drinks both as bundles or individually . Each bundle conveniently comes with 2 drinks, so you could theoretically share with someone else in your party. Both nonalcoholic and alcoholic drinks can be found in the bundles.

Nonalcoholic drink options include sodas, water, coffee, and tea. Spirits, wine, cocktails, and beers are also available.

Snack options for purchase include Peanut M&M’s, Takis, Chex Mix, and Cup of Noodles .

Onboard Amenities

As you can imagine, Frontier’s onboard amenities are few and far between. Even though snacks and drinks aren’t complimentary, it’s great that you can purchase those items once you’re on board.

For kids, flight attendants have collectible trading cards . Card images include Griz the Bear, Otto the Owl, or Flo the Flamingo.

Frontier Betty the Bluebird trading card

Inflight Entertainment

Frontier Airlines does not have inflight Wi-Fi , seatback entertainment, or power outlets on its airplanes. However, you can download and print Frontier activity pages for kids before you board . The activities include a route map and Frontier tail to color. You can even recognize your child for their excellent travel skills with a free Frontier flight certificate !

A lack of inflight entertainment doesn’t mean that a flight will be without anything to do. It just lets parents know they will need to plan ahead with activities and pre-downloaded shows and movies on their personal devices.

The Frontier Airlines World card is the only credit card offered by Frontier Airlines. The card has a mild annual fee and a welcome bonus offer typically available after meeting a minimum spending requirement .

Cardholders earn 5x miles on eligible purchases made at FlyFrontier.com, including flights, 3x miles at restaurants, and 1x miles on all other purchases. Every dollar spent on the Frontier Airlines World card gets you 1 point closer to elite status.

Additional benefits include priority Zone 2 boarding and waiving the award redemption fee when you use your Frontier Airlines World card to pay the taxes and fees on an award ticket. The card also gives you access to your FICO credit score and has no foreign transaction fees .

On the surface, Frontier Airlines seems like a great option for families to save money on air travel. But you’ll soon find that the airline charges for everything imaginable, from seat assignments to checking in on its website.

If you’re a savvy traveler who knows how to pack right and can take advantage of features like Kids Fly Free with a Discount Den membership, Frontier Airlines might be the perfect airline for your family’s needs.

Frontier Airlines flying with babies

Does frontier airlines impose restrictions regarding the acceptance of infants.

An infant must be at least 7 days old to be accepted on Frontier Airlines flights. One adult at least 15 years of age may accompany up to two infants under the age of 2 .

When are children required to have their own seats for travel on Frontier Airlines flights?

Infants under 2 years old are allowed to travel free of charge on the lap of an adult at least 15 years of age, but a seat must be purchased for travel on Frontier Airlines flights in the following situations:

  • Children 2 years of age or older must have their own seat reserved .
  • If a child under the age of 2 will travel in his/her own approved car seat , a ticket must be purchased .
  • Because each ticketed adult is allowed to hold only one infant on their lap, a ticket must be purchased for a second infant who must be secured in a car seat occupying a separate seat.

Does Frontier Airlines offer discounts for infants or children?

Infants (children from 7 days to 2 years of age) are accepted, without charge, on all Frontier Airlines flights , domestic and international, when the infant does not occupy a separate seat and is accompanied by a full fare-paying adult passenger 15 years of age or older. Even if your infant is flying for free, sitting on your lap, taxes may apply when traveling internationally . These taxes must be paid prior to boarding the original departure flight and will be collected at check-in.

Infants occupying a seat and children 2 years of age or older will be charged the same fare as an adult passenger  unless special fares are available.

You can book your next Frontier Airlines flight online even when you will be traveling with your baby as a lap infant. Only one infant per paying adult is allowed to travel as a lap infant. If you plan to travel alone with 2 infants, the first infant may travel sitting on your lap, but you must purchase a ticket for a reserved seat for the second infant to travel in an approved child restraint device.

The number of infants accepted per flight may be limited based on aircraft type due to supplemental equipment considerations. Also, because there are only four oxygen masks per every three seats, two adults with two lap infants are not allowed to sit on the same side of a row. Passengers traveling with lap infants may not sit in any seat that has an airbag seatbelt installed (includes row 1 on most Frontier aircraft ) .

As baggage allowance exceptions when traveling with a child, the following items may be checked or carried on board at no charge :

  • A diaper bag may be carried on board when traveling with a child, in addition to your carry-on allowance .
  • Child restraint devices may be carried on board only if they have air-travel-approved Department of Transportation (DOT) labels. If the child restraint device has no such label, it will be accepted as checked baggage only.
  • Strollers may be used to transport your child to the gate but must be gate-checked in the departing city. At your final destination, the stroller will be returned to the gate.

Provided that seat space is available after boarding, an approved car seat brought on board may be used by an infant, even if a seat has not been purchased for the child. Booster seats may be carried on board, but must be stowed in an overhead compartment or underneath the seat for takeoff and landing. The booster seat may be used seat during the flight, once the aircraft has reached cruising altitude.

Infants Traveling in Their Own Reserved Seats

Frontier Airlines encourages all adults traveling with infants under 2 years of age to secure the infant in an approved car seat or harness . When a child restraint device will be used to secure the infant for taxi, takeoff, and landing, a separate seat must be reserved. The seat width varies depending on the type of aircraft, from minimum seat width of 16.5” on A321 aircraft to 17.4” on A319 and A320 aircraft .

Frontier Airlines allows the AMSafe Aviation C.A.R.E.S. child harness device , with the label indicating FAA approval, to be used onboard for children weighing 22-44 pounds.

To use a car seat on board the aircraft, the child may not exceed the weight limitation of the car seat and the car seat must have a solid seat and back, and restraint straps installed to hold the child in the car seat. Also, only car seats with labels identifying approval for aircraft use (“This child restraint system conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards” and “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT” or “TSO-100”) will be accepted.

Frontier Airlines does not allow car seats to be placed in the emergency exit rows, nor in the seats immediately in front of or behind the exit rows. Car seats may not be placed in any seat that has an airbag seatbelt installed. The car seat must be secured by a seatbelt at all times and may not obstruct another passenger’s access to the aisle. Window seats are the preferred location for an infant traveling in a car seat, but other seat assignments are permitted provided the car seat is not obstructing the egress of any passenger.

In addition to your one personal item, a diaper bag may be taken on board free of charge . You can use the stroller to transport your child to the gate, but then you must check it at the gate . Upon arrival at your destination, your stroller will be returned to you at the gate.

When traveling with a child, Frontier Airlines recommends that you bring items that will keep your child content during the flight. Also, Frontier Airlines offers fun flight activities for the kids (Fun with maps, activity pages, and flight certificate) that you can print out before you leave home. Frontier Airlines will board families traveling with children under 3 years of age ahead of some passengers, immediately after Zone 1, as part of the Courtesy Boarding group .

Frontier Airlines Airline Policy For Kids

A frontier airlines plane on the runway. Frontier Airlines also has specific airlines policies for kids!

Traveling with children on Frontier Airlines usually goes smoothly! In fact, the airline has a number of policies in place to make sure that families have a safe and comfortable journey. Keep reading to learn more!

Early Boarding for Families in Frontier Airlines

Families with children under 2 can also take advantage of early boarding to make sure that everyone is settled before takeoff.

Frontier Airlines Policies Specific to Infants, Toddlers, and Young Kids

There are a few policies specific to families traveling with babies, toddlers, and small children. Here is what you should know if you are flying with tiny travelers!

Lap Seat/Infant-In-Arms

If you’re wondering about the Frontier Airlines lap seat policy, you’re in the right place! Kids under the age of 2 can fly for free when sitting on an adult’s lap. They must be added to your reservation and need a boarding pass, even if they don’t have a seat.

If you’re wondering, do babies fly free internationally on Frontier Airlines? Keep reading! Families flying internationally should call the airline directly to book their flights to ensure all requirements are met for adding an infant-in-arms to an international Frontier Airlines flight. Certain documents or fees may be required.

Child Fares

If you prefer your infant to have their own seat, you can purchase a discounted ticket. For domestic and international travel, all children over the age of 2 must have their own seats at a standard fare. All kids 14 and under can fly free on certain flights with the purchase of a DISCOUNT DEN® member fare.

Unaccompanied Minors

Frontier also offers an “Unaccompanied Minor” service for children ages 5-14. With this service, a child will be escorted by Frontier personnel from the gate to the plane, and then from the plane to their destination upon arrival.

Frontier Airlines does not offer bassinets to families flying with young children.

Frontier Airlines Car Seat Policy

Per the Frontier Airlines car seat policy, the airline requires children under 2 who have their own seats (i.e.  not  infant-in-arms) to have an FAA-approved safety seat. You can either bring your car seat or purchase one from Frontier Airlines.

Jet Kids BedBox™

A young girl sits on a plan in her JetKids by Stokke, one of the best products for sleeping on long international flights with kids.

Frontier Airlines has officially approved the use of the Jet Kids BedBox™. The Jet Kids BedBox™ is a portable bed that families can use on planes and trains, and it even provides storage and a fun way for kids to roll through the airport!

Baby care such as bottle warmers is subject to availability.

Baggage/Carry-On Luggage

A mom and her two kids stand with their carry-on luggage at the airport.

Luggage allowance is a common question among parents. Thankfully, Frontier has clear guidelines as to what is allowed for children :

  • If children are traveling for free (lap seat/infant-in-arms), they do not have their own baggage allowance (in addition to what is allowed for their ticketed adult). Thus, any baggage for the child counts as part of the adult’s baggage allowance.
  • Children traveling on their own ticket follow the standard baggage allowance, and are likewise allowed one carry-on/one personal item onboard.

Parents won’t be charged a fee for checking a stroller, or a car seat. Families can also use the stroller in the airport, and the gate agent will check it at the gate.

Food Policy

Kid-friendly snacks and meals are available for purchase during the flight.

Special Toys and Games/Entertainment Options

To keep little ones entertained during your flight, there are downloadable activity packets and coloring pages. Plus, kids can ask the stewardess for a fun animal-themed trading card pack and see how many they can collect!

What Documents Do I Need To Travel With Kids?

A young girl stands on the jet bridge with her suitcase and travel documents. Bringing the right travel documents are an essential part of understanding Frontier Airlines kids policies!

While not strictly Frontier Airlines’ policies for kids, you may still be wondering, do you need identification for a child or babies to fly ? There are a few different documents your children may need, as U.S. citizens, to travel (if your kids have different citizenship, please refer to the rules and regulations for their country of citizenship).

What Documents Do I Need for US Domestic Travel with Kids

  • Generally, no ID is needed: Babies and kids (or, those under the age of 18) do not need to present any identification for domestic travel within the United States (or its territories, like Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands).
  • Birth Certificates: Some airlines, however, may require proof of age for lap-seat infants. In this case, we recommend packing a birth certificate for your children just in case.
  • Child Travel Consent: If you are traveling without your child’s other parent, a letter of consent providing proof of permission to travel alone with your child may be useful. While this is not strictly needed for domestic travel, it may provide peace of mind for traveling parents in the event you are questioned by the government or airline staff.

What Documents Do I Need For International Travel With Kids?

Basically, babies and children need the same documents for international travel adults do, including:

  • Valid US Passport : Regardless of age, children with U.S. citizenship need a valid passport for air travel to another country (even babies!). The application process for children under 16 needs to be completed in person. Both parents are required to be present. Children’s passports are valid for five years.
  • Proof of Relationship to Child : While you may not be asked for it, we highly recommend that you travel with some type of document proving your relationship to your child (e.g., birth certificate, adoption certificate, etc.). Please note that some countries or airlines will require this type of document. It is your responsibility to know the documents needed before you depart for your trip.
  • Child Travel Consent : If you are traveling without your child’s other parent, plan on bringing a letter of consent from the other parent to travel alone with your child. Some countries require letters to be notarized. This letter should contain the child’s basic information (e.g., name, gender, birthday, place of birth, passport number, etc.), both parents’ names and contact information, the traveling arrangements (flights, accommodations, other adults traveling in your party), and the destination.

Additional Documents You Might Need or Want for International Travel with Kids :

  • A  visa for the destination country , or a transit country (a country where a layover takes place).
  • Some countries require everyone to have  vaccination records  for specific vaccinations. Check the  U.S. State Department International Travel website  for information about your destination country.
  • Each country has its own requirements (or recommendations) for documents needed to enter the country. Check the  U.S. State Department International Travel website  for information about requirements for your destination country.
  • If you travel frequently, consider joining one of the  Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP ).

Tips For Taking A Long Flight With Kids On Frontier Airlines

Part of our Frontier Airlines kids policies article, this is an infant girl suck her thumb while sitting in a carseat on a plane preparing to take off.

If you’re flying Frontier Airlines with kids, in addition to the Frontier Airlines policies for kids, here are some important tips to keep in mind!

  • First, be sure to pack some snacks and drinks for the kids so they don’t get hungry or thirsty during the flight.
  • You may also want to bring along some toys or games to keep them entertained.
  • Once you’re on the plane, take advantage of the in-flight entertainment options to keep your kids occupied.
  • If your child gets restless, let them move around the cabin every few hours.
  • Also, try to schedule your flight around their natural sleep schedule.
  • Finally, remember to hydrate during the flight by drinking plenty of water or juice.
  • And bring along a travel pillow and blanket for each child to keep them comfortable!
  • If you’re traveling with a baby for the first time, check out our ten tips to prepare for your baby’s first flight.

Best Snacks To Carry On A Frontier Airlines Flight With Kids

As a parent, you always want to make sure your kids are fed and happy while traveling. That’s why it’s essential to keep your kids’ energy levels up and avoid any meltdowns by packing some snacks for your flight! It’s important to try to avoid sugary and salty snacks that can cause kids to feel cranky or restless. Instead, opt for healthier choices like fruit, granola bars, or veggie sticks. If you’re looking for something a little sweeter, we recommend packing some mini cookies or pretzels. And don’t forget the drinks! Water is always a good choice, but you might also want to pack some juice boxes or milk for the littlest ones. Just remember to ensure the snacks aren’t too messy!
