Diana Ross is a multi million selling artists who has won countless awards and rose to fame as the lead singer of 1960's group The Supremes.

Diana Ernestine Earle Ross is an American singer, actress, record producer and an occasional songwriter. She found fame as the lead vocalist of Motown group The Supremes in the 1960s, she remains one of the most successful Motown artists of all time. At the peak of their success, The Supremes were said to rival The Beatles in terms of popularity and they remain America's most successful group to date.

After winning a talent contest in Windsor, Ontario, Canada after Ross led on the song, "There Goes My Baby", they auditioned for Motown Records where Diana's voice stopped manager Gordy in his tracks, yet after he found out they were still very young he advised they return after finishing school. Foundations seemed to be falling in place for the girl group, headed by the powerful voice of Ross. Although they struggled initially, in 1963 they had their first number one hit with 'Where Did Our Love Go'.

This was just the beginning of their success in the 60's, they went on to sing on ten US number one singles all of which managed to also chart within the UK top 40 chart. The band were enjoying international success, yet in 1967 Gordy took the decision to fire Florence Ballard from the group and rename them Diana Ross & The Supremes so they would be able to charge more for performances.

In 1970 Ross branched out into a solo career, releasing her debut which included an international hit and a US number one 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' which also earned the songstress a Grammy nomination. Over the following years her success as a solo artists flourished, recording a duet album with Marvin Gaye and Ross receiving an invitation to the Imperial Palace for a private audience with the Empress Nagako, wife of Emperor Hirohito, the first singer in history to do so. Her 1980 album 'Diana' is still considered her most successful and iconic album which includes mega hits such as 'I'm Coming Out', 'My Endless Love' and 'Upside Down' which was a collaboration with Chic & Nile Rodgers.

Diana Ross is one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century, in 1988 she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. She has won countless awards including Golden Globe Awards, Tony Awards and countless Grammys including the 2012 Lifetime Achievement in Music award. Her legacy has inspired countless artists including Michael Jackson, Beyonce and Whitney Houston. In 1993 she was inducted into the Guinness Book Of Records in 1993 as the most successful female artist of all time.

In the competitive business that is divahood, it seems to be harder and more claw scratching than ever to get to the top. But when Diana Ross walked on the stage at Casino Rama on Wednesday night, the entire audience was swiftly shown how the Queen of all divas takes over the definition of fierce.

As is what seems customary with all divas, Ms. Ross arrived 70 minutes late due to travel delays, but the audience didn’t seem to mind. Opening with her 1980 hit and gay anthem "I'm Coming Out", Ross enters the stage wearing a green sequin dress and a boah heavily sparkled coat that easily looked to be 20 pounds... classic Diana Ross.

The crowd, a diverse mix of youths and the elderly, many black women and a nice sparkle of gays (looking completely refreshed from the world pride festivities and ready to party), all of whom stood with cheering ecstatically to the Boss.

Ross, who just turned 70 in March, kept her performance quick and swift to a 75-minute set list of 19 songs and four of the most extravagantly beautiful costume changes. The days of the Supremes have not been forgotten by the icon, Diana performed six #1 hits of the 1960's girl band that launched her to international stardom. A notable mention of the quick set list was that the majority of the songs were not sung fully, but would rather be missing a verse or turned into a medley, as was the case with a jazz sounding Love Hangover with her 1995 single ‘Take Me Higher’ as well as the Theme from Mahogany with ‘Ain't No Mountain High Enough’. Still, at 70 years old it seems that Ross' voice is more powerful than ever before. One of the outstanding performances of the evening would be her performance of her 1971 hit “Touch Me In The Morning”, her band playing this with a beautiful jazz melody that really complimented Ross' soaring vocals throughout the song. Her band consisted of 12 piece electric jazz focused band was heavily involved throughout the concert and were all very entertaining, often doing various singing and instrumental routines that kept the crowd moving during Ms. Ross' costume changes.

There was truly never a dull moment throughout the concert, not just because Ms. Ross’ set list allowed such little time for talking with the audience but also because after more than 50 years in the music industry, Diana Ross can most definitely still woo and sway an audience better than any other female version of a hustler.

I had the Honor to witness this Living Legend perform in true Diana Ross style. With elegance, style and class personified. At 75 years of age, she sounded just as wonderfully as she did in her early years. I was so amazed and danced all night. It took me back to the 80's when I saw her in New York City and she had the crowd on their feet. As I looked around at the crowd, I could see that everyone felt the same way. Her daughter Rhonda Ross was her opening act and she also held her own. I also met Ms. Ross years ago when I was a very young woman and she had her two sons with her at Kennedy Airport in NYC. She was just as gracious as she was at this concert. She did not have security or an assistant with her and I walked them to their flight. She asked me my name and told me I was a beautiful young woman and talked to me all the way to the gate. And again that Grace and Class has made me her GREATEST FAN. LOVE YOU MS. ROSS the TRUE BOSS!!

On Saturday August 16,2016 at approximately 8pm an unidentified flying object was spotted sailing accross The Hollywood Bowel. It appeared to be from another planet, perhaps a Supreme being. One onlooker shouted "look it's a bird, another marveled "it's a plane and another screamed "no its Diana Ross on a swing!". The whole audience applauded wildly with cheers while watching Diana Ross desend from heaven.

When she was lowered to the stage and unharnessed, she broke loose with a repertoire of golden oldies and sexy smoldering hit songs. The crowd quieted and were all seemly captivated when she sang Muscles and when we thought there would be a lull in the show, she brought the audience to their feet again with songs from the movie "The Whiz"and we all eased on down the road with more hit songs from countless genres. What a memorable time with "super dupper" Diana Ross at The Hollywood Bowel!

Being a fan since the mid 60's, I was afraid I would be disappointed. In the years of seeing her shows, probably 20 some times, I saw some spectacular shows. There was always an electricity that went through the audience. On Saturday night in NYC MSG, I had no disappointment. Neither did the audience, who was moving constantly, based on the many times I looked back in the room and listening to the exiting comments. If there are any flaws in Diana's voice they weren't in the least apparent. She sounded great. She also stayed with the songs we love; even singing 'Reach Out and Touch'...the only thing missing was the visit into the audience. Prices are higher than I can afford at this point in my life...but after hearing the reviews from previous shows, I couldn't pass on it. I'm not at all disappointed.

As usual, Diana Ross gave 110% to her fans. She took us on a journey from a few hits with the Supremes followed by her hits over the years and a tribute to her film Lady Sings the Blues. From ballads to up-tempo songs, she had the audience wanting More. 5 costume changes and each outfit showed off the beauty of this woman. At 76 years old, Diana Ross looked like a woman in her 50's. Singing, dancing and playing with her fans. The entire evening was truly Supreme :) Having not miss a show since 1978, she proves time and time again she IS THE STUFF THAT ICONS ARE MADE OF.

Absolutely fabulous! I've been for many concerts but this was iconic. Diana Ross sounded wonderful and looked stunning in her outfits. She took us back to the flashy days of Motown. She smiled, joked, danced, waved the whole show. Amazing to think she's about to turn 76 years old! I loved singing along to so many of her songs from over the years.

My only disappointment was that the show was only about an hour long. I wish it was longer. However, well worth the ticket price which was not too expensive.

I would definitely see her again!

Ms. Ross was awesome. She looked great in all her of different costumes. Her voice is still perfect. It was like seeking her live for the first time even though I have seen her before. I can never get tired of hearing her solo songs as well as the Supremes song's. Her daughter opened for her and she was great as well. Whenever I heard "The Boss" it is like I am hearing for the first time. The venue was nice....small and intimate Thank you Ms. Ross for giving us great music and still out here touring. Looking forward to seeking you again!

The production values need a lot of improvement as for those of us lucky enough to be close to the stage there was distortion.

Hadn't known about the daughter being the warm-up, strong voice but NOT Diana.

We had a number of people standing in front of us for much of the performance which made it difficult to see the stage for us who were unable to stand for long periods. The ushering staff should have sorted that out!

The concert itself was great. She puts on a remarkable show.

We had VIP third row tickets so it was an exceptional experience.

The venue however was a little drab and it seemed that once the spotlights came on - the auditorium got very hot pretty quick.

I heard more than a few complaints of the heat in the auditorium. Which was unfortunate.

Other than that - it was phenomenal.

The show was excellent. I smiled throughout the whole show. I was accompanied by family members and they had a wonderful time as well. Diana Ross kept the audience engaged she was wonderful and sang all my favorite songs. I am so happy I went but actually this was my sister’s idea because she is such a Diana Ross fan.

Seventy-eight-year-old Diana Ross isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Earlier this year, she announced a quick five-concert North American tour but has since expanded the run to 15 huge shows .

That includes performances at Atlantic City’s Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort on Sept. 9, Bethlehem’s Wind Creek Event Center on Sept. 10 and New York City’s Beacon Theatre on Sept. 13.

She’ll close her run of shows with a six-show residency at Las Vegas’ Encore Theatre at Wynn Las Vegas from Sept. 21 through Aug. 1.

Diana Ross adds New York, Atlantic City dates to ‘Thank You’ summer tour

The Motown legend has added more dates to her previously announced five-concert tour.

Fresh off headlining the Glastonbury Festival and serenading Queen Elizabeth for the Platinum Jubilee celebration, Ross will sing her signature hits such as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and Supremes classics alongside music from her new “ Thank You ” album at casino shows in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Then comes a Boston theater gig and her long-awaited return to Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

The strings of shows, which also include the Minnesota State Fair (on Sept. 3) are scheduled ahead of her six-show residency in Las Vegas.

Boch Center Wang Theatre in Boston (Sept. 8), Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City (Sept. 9) and Wind Creek Event Center are late additions to the mini tour the 78-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer first announced in June.

Ross wrote on Twitter this week: “I’m so excited to be back HOME in the US. To always ‘LET LOVE LEAD THE WAY.’ Looking forward to seeing you all. More dates are being announced so stay tuned!”

“We are thrilled to have the incomparable Diana Ross take the stage here at Ocean,” Ocean Casino Resort marketing chief Kelly Burke told The Daily News on Wednesday. “As one of Atlantic City’s leading entertainment destinations we acknowledge the importance of offering compelling concerts year-round, and what better way to extend the summer than with an international icon such as Ms. Ross.” Tickets for the newly announced shows go on sale July 29.

Ross’ latest music release, “ Turn Up The Sunshine ” (a collaboration with Tame Impala, and featured on the “Minions: The Rise of Gru” soundtrack) peaked at No. 22 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Airplay chart earlier this summer — becoming her 30th Top 40 solo hit.

According to Billboard, the groovy, up-tempo Jack Antonoff-produced track was her highest debut on the chart and best placement as a lead artist since 1989.

The iconic diva — whose lengthy list of hits spanning six decades include “Where Did I Love Go,” “ Love Hangover ,” “I’m Coming Out,” “Endless Love,” and “Missing You” — will close out the brief “Thank You” trek at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Sept. 13.

And then off to Sin City she goes: Ross will conduct a six-concert residency at Las Vegas’ Encore Theatre at Wynn from Sept. 21 through Oct. 1.

Diana Ross Opens U.S. Leg Of ‘Thank You’ Tour With Diva Dedication At Hollywood Bowl [Review/Videos]

Beyoncé may be the diva of the day, but the playbook that brought Bey to queendom was written largely, if not entirely, by Diana Ross .

Rising to stardom as the lead in a girl group? Check. Striking out on her own to become a solo sensation? Check. That journey guided by a generational voice, with plenty of costume changes along the way? Check and check.

No matter your definition of “diva,” Ross fits the bill as well as anyone has, does, or ever will. Since the age of 16, the Detroit native has dazzled audiences the world over with her vivacious spirit, her vibrant costumes and, of course, her brilliant vocals.

All of that is as true as ever at age 78. Diana Ross put her ageless talent (and tenacity) on full display at the Hollywood Bowl , where she kicked off the American portion of her world tour in support of her new album, Thank You , with a performance that showcased her ever-impressive range as a defining diva.

Following an engaging opening set from Tony Award nominee Joshua Henry , the longtime Queen of Motown resumed her reign with a run of what can only be described as absolute bangers. From coming out to, well, “Coming Out” and bouncing around to her cover of Spiral Staircase ’s “More Today Than Yesterday” to spinning out chart-topping hits from the Supremes —including “Come See About Me,” “Baby Love,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “You Can’t Hurry Love” and “Love Child”—Ross had a packed house of 17,000-plus patrons out of their seats and on their feet. And that was all before the first wardrobe break, each of which took place inside a curtained box on the left side of the stage.

From there, Diana dove deep into her catalog to unearth ageless classics and new favorites alike. There were disco standards like “It’s My House” and “Upside Down”, which had the house lit in the now-common colloquial sense—as well as ballads like “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)”, which had the crowd waving their phone lights to form cellular constellations. There were nods to her crossover into acting, including “Ease on Down the Road” from The Wiz , the theme from Mahogany , and “Don’t Explain”, from Diana’s role as Billie Holiday , one of the original divas, in Lady Sings the Blues.

With the second costume change came a shift toward material from her 2021 release, Thank You , which was borne of gratitude for her fans and, to some degree, boredom without the ability to tour during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Those tracks, especially “Tomorrow” and “If the World Just Danced”, are imbued with a degree of broader consciousness, something for which she may not always be known but of which she is certainly capable.

Not that Diana Ross has ever been shy. She interacted a bit with the audience—particularly her youngest son, Evan, to whom she sang “Beautiful Love” on his birthday—and much more with the production crew, critiquing the overuse of lights and inability to hear her own band at times.

In spite (or maybe because?) of those challenges, Diana persevered to shine bright on every song she sang and in every outfit she wore. After busting out her iconic rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” she fittingly closed out the show with a cover of Gloria Gaynor ’s “I Will Survive” that wove in a piece of DJ Khaled ’s “All I Do Is Win”.

Indeed, Diana Ross has been winning for a long, long, long time. After 62 years in the business, she stands as one of the most successful musicians ever, regardless of demographic. And if her latest bout with the technical elements at the Hollywood Bowl was any indication, she still has plenty of skill and spunk to keep going as a world-class performer, even as she approaches the age of 80.

Considered one of the world’s most commercially successful female artists, Diana Ross has made a significant impact on modern music thanks to her vocal prowess and her widely-treasured hits, such as “I’m Coming Out,” “Where Did Our Love Go,” and “Baby Love,” among others. During the ‘60s, Ross emerged on the music scene as a singer for the prolific girl group, The Supremes. After the dissolution of the group, Ross embarked on what would be a phenomenal solo career. In 1970, Ross dropped her eponymous debut album, spawning the classic “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Reach Out.”

For decades, her music has filled the airwaves and entertained music lovers all over the world. With a career spanning more than six decades, Ross has released some of the most distinguished studio albums. Her colossal 1980 studio release, Diana, has earned two platinum certifications in the U.S. and Canada and gold in the Netherlands and U.K. The 11th studio album became her best-selling release to date, selling more than one million copies in the U.S. Meanwhile, Ross’s other albums have also gained incredible success. She has released 25 studio albums and sold over 100 million copies worldwide.

Diana Ross has earned several accolades throughout her career. Some of her more prestigious awards include seven American Music Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a Tony Award, and more. In 1988, Ross was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Then 24 years later, she became a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Diana Ross 'Thank U Tour' Comes to Boch Center Wang Theatre in September

International Icon Diana Ross is heading to Boston for one hit-filled evening September 8 at the Boch Center Wang Theatre. The show is part of Ross's Thank U Tour. Tickets are on sale now at BochCenter.org .

Diana Ross defines an icon. A national treasure with a magnificent legacy that has changed the course of music history and popular culture. Ms. Ross is a creator of life, an alchemist of an unprecedented career that has made her the most successful recording artist and entertainer of all time. In 2017, the American Music Awards presented Ms. Ross with the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1993, she earned a Guinness World Record for her success in the United States and United Kingdom by having more hits than any other female artist on the charts with a career total of over 75 hit singles.

Additional career milestones include: Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Songwriters Hall of Fame, National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Hero Award, NAACP Entertainer Award, Billboard's Female Entertainer of the Century Award, and The Soul Train Legend Award. Ms. Ross is also one of the few celebrities to have two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her voice, described as "honey" and "angelic," has over 100 million streams, downloads and sales around the world.

She rose to stardom in the 1960s as the leader of The Supremes, becoming one of the most successful groups of the era with hits like "Stop! In the Name of Love," "Where Did Our Love Go," and "Can't Hurry Love" - classics that still endure today.  As a solo artist, she continued to shine with iconic hits like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Touch Me in the Morning," "I'm Coming Out," "Love Hangover," and many more.  Diana Ross is the definition of a legend.
