Why Is The Internet So Obsessed With Space NK’s £16 Travel Bags?

Unpopular opinion: I love packing. Well, I have done since I discovered the ASMR-worthy world of packing cubes. Undergarments? There's a cube for that. Shoes? Grab a cube. My top 6 Space NK travel essentials

At home I’m all for a full 4 or 5‑step beauty programme, but when you go away, you can’t be doing with all that. Most beauty items need to fit into a tiny plastic bag and, personally, I don’t have the time or the inclination for a complex beauty regime when I’m on holiday. Less is more in every sense. We just need the essentials, so here are six of mine…

AESOP DEODORANT

This is small but mighty. I don’t really like roll-ons, and aerosols are no good when you’re going on a plane, so I take this Aesop deodorant instead. It smells divine, which means it almost doubles up as a perfume as well as helping you stop ponging too badly. Win win.

ULTRA VIOLETTE SPF 50+

I tend to wear SPF most days now, but on holiday a 50+ for the face is an absolute must. I like this Violette SPF cream the best as it’s also mattifying. It doesn’t make me break out and it helps stop the shine. It’s been one of my favourite recent beauty finds. Highly recommend.

NATURIUM MULTI-PEPTIDE MOISTURISER 

You can’t take your big pot of moisturiser when you go away, so instead I take this little tube of joy . It contains vitamin C, which I usually use as an oil, but a 2‑in‑1 works better when travelling.

THE ORDINARY SQUALANE CLEANSER 

Usually nothing will separate me from my Elemis cleansing balm , and I do sometimes try to decant it into something smaller to take with me when I go away. But for ease I generally take this cleanser by The Ordinary instead. It’s got a similar balm-like consistency plus it’s only £8.30 for the travel size, which lasts for much longer than the actual holiday.

SUNDAY RILEY LUNA NIGHT OIL

I got this Sunday Riley oil in the Space NK advent calendar last year and it’s a great alternative to night cream and retinol. Don’t be alarmed that it goes on blue, you just rub it in and that fades! It’s super nourishing and comes in a nice compact bottle.

SUMMER FRIDAYS LIP BUTTER BALM 

Finally, we have to look after our lips. I do have an SPF balm for when I’m on a beach holiday, but I also love this tinted lip butter from Summer Fridays when travelling. At home too, but on holiday I find I wear less lipstick yet I still want a bit of colour.

Good quality

I feel tools make a huge difference to your work I like to buy good quality makeup and brushes. I could tell straight away by the look these would perform well. They wash well and best of all apply makeup very flawlessly. It doesn’t stab my skin with the bristles as they are soft but firm on the brushes that need to be. Perfect brush set for every day

I’d needed a new brush set for a long time and am so glad I opted for the Ultimate Edit set as it’s just enough for my daily make up needs, plus the case is spacious enough to fit my make up essentials too: mascara, brow pencil, blush and bronzer! It’s so handy to throw in my bag. Plus the brushes are vegan, soft, and they blend well 🤗

I got these because they were a steal during the cyber offers, these brushes are really soft and luscious, great quality synthetics. Beauty retailer Space NK has unveiled its spring beauty edit for 2021, with a curated box of make-up , skincare , fragrance and haircare products.

Launching on 23 February, it’s described as a “thoughtful edit of mood-boosting home fragrance, skincare saviours and a make-up must haves”, many of which we’re already big fans of here at IndyBest.

With warmer weather, longer hours of daylight and the end of lockdown (hopefully) on the horizon, it’s an ideal way to refresh your routine and treat yourself to some new beauty bits while scoring a huge bargain.

The value of all the products totals £156, but the box will be available to customers for just £85, which is an impressive saving of £71. Some of the luxury brands included are Caudalie, Tan-Luxe and Neom.

With Mother’s Day fast approaching (14 March), it would make a great gift to send to someone else, particularly if you might not be able to meet up in person.

This chemical exfoliant is a beta-hydroxy acid that’s ideal if you’re prone to spots and have oily or combination skin. The salicylic-acid-rich formula is designed to be swept across clean skin with a soaked cotton pad, to slough off dead skin cells and exfoliate inside clogged pores that cause breakouts.

Gentle enough to use daily after cleansing and before your moisturiser, it’s anti-inflammatory and won’t dry skin out either. It’s also fast-acting, so you’ll see radiant results within days.

Tan Luxe super glow serum SPF30: £39, Spacenk.com

Multitasking tanning brand Tan Luxe created this self-tanning lotion for the face to give skin a sunkissed glow while tackling dehydration and protecting from UV rays with SPF30. Infused with chia seed, coconut, raspberry seed and avocado oils, it promises to reduce inflammation, protect from pollutants and brighten your complexion simultaneously.

You can customise the tan it provides by using anything between four and 12 drops massaged into clean skin and followed with your usual moisturiser. Just remember to wash your hands after applying it to avoid streaks decorating your hands as the tan develops.

We also love Tan Luxe’s super glow hyaluronic acid self-tan serum (£35, Spacenk.com ) which is better suited to drier skin types and appeared in our fake tan buying guide . Our reviewer described it as: “Gentle and hydrating, providing a healthy glow without clinging to dry areas of the face (a common problem with other face tans).”

This plant-based mist is a refreshing burst of moisture for parched skin. Perfect to keep at your deskside for top-ups in-between zoom calls, it’s a fragrant blend of rose, grape and rosemary without being overwhelming or irritating sensitive skin.

It can also be used as a setting spray for your make-up without disrupting your carefully blended foundation. And when summer rolls around, it’ll come in handy for keeping you cool, having previously appeared in our guide to hydrating face mists to help you get through a heatwave .

If we’re being honest, our haircare routine has been lacking during lockdown . With nowhere to go, we’re washing it less and opting for a messy bun most days. This vegan mascara took the top spot in our guide to the best mascaras . “With a tapered bristle brush, it is easy to apply, with the fine ‘nib’ making it easy to reach even the fine lashes at the corners of the eyes,” said our tester.

They also loved that it didn’t clump and could be built up in layers, with lashes remaining soft and gorgeous. “The pigment is a deep and winning black. An exceptional all-rounder,” they added.

The Space NK Makeover

Me and makeovers historically don’t get on. I’ve had it all, from the over rouged cheeks to mismatched foundations, so I tend to steer clear of them all together or if on the rare occasion that I’m accosted into having one, I make sure there’s babywipes in my bag. But with my burgeoning Space NK obsession and after enviously eyeing up ladies being primped in their stores I decided to head on down there and attempt to overcome my makeover fears (babywipes in tow just in case). Being on almost first name terms with store staff I was put into the safe hands of Graziella, who sat and listened while I dished out my neutral makeup requirements. We talked through a few products that I’ve been meaning to try for ages and off she dashed round the store picking up those and a little edit she thought would be to my tastes. So here’s a blow-by-blow account of how she hauled me into a look that still fitted my nude makeup rider but with an added pop of pouty colour…

You know I love experimenting with my base so I watched carefully as Graziella mixed Kevyn Aucoin’s Sensual Skin Enhancer in SX05 with the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser in Nude to create a mid-coverage, dewy foundation/tinted moisturiser hybrid. The shades were spot-on, as was the finish and a purchase of the Kevyn Aucoin may have happened. She added  By Terry’s Touche Veloutée Concealer in 2 under my eyes (an old favourite of mine), and powdered lightly with NARS Pressed Pow der in Eden . For cheeks we both went a little Kevyn Aucoin crazy, with Graziella applying the Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Glow in Transoleil with her fingers and dusting a small amount of their Celestial Powder over the top; gving a slight hint of highlight with a coral hue.

For eyes, Graziella started by priming with the NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base before dusting on the Shu Uemura Eye Shadow in P832 all over the lid, with M895 in the crease. To darken up the lashline, something I never do but liked the effect of, she blended out the Kevyn Aucoin The Eye Pencil Primatif in Basic Brown across the outer corner of the top lashline and then dotted some of Hourglass’ Script Precision Liquid Liner in Jett (possibly the smallest tipped liner I’ve ever seen), in between my lashes. She then coated on Hourglass’ Film Noir Mascara – the only part of this makeover I wasn’t keen on, you know how much I love my L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof – and to finish off, my brows were shaped with Hourglass’ new ridiculously easy to use  Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette .

When Graziella suggested we play around with a bright lip and I agreed she almost shook me with delight. Off she disappeared to the stockroom, soon to arrive back with swatches up to her elbows, waving the Hourglass Opaque Rouge in Muse in air. An almost neon pinky-red, it was instant love with both of us. She lined my lips with Laura Mercier’s Lip Pencil in Warm Poppy first, then layered on the lacquer which surprisingly stayed put pretty well post-makeover at a burrito eating session at Wahaca. And yes Muse may have entered the shopping basket too.

Quelle surprise – the babywipes remained untouched, I left with a slightly lower bank balance than when I entered and a bag brimming with sachet samples; I’m sure my purchases will be popping up on here soon .
