House Tour: A Romantic Beach Bungalow

Dream homes can be hard to come by—or they are simply destined to be and will find their way to you. Such wondrous kismet worked for Susie Holt and her husband, Mark. Every day on their way to work, they would drive a route along the Gulf of Mexico on a small barrier island called Casey Key. One day they saw a man putting out a ‘For Sale’ sign in front of a 1,100-square-foot 1920s beach bungalow. The couple stopped, chatted with the homeowner, went inside and were pleasantly surprised. “It was bigger than it looked,” Susie recalls. As she surveyed the bungalow floorplan, Susie, who owns a coastal chic decor store called Posh on Palm in nearby Venice, with Mark, knew she could apply her unique brand of home styling magic to the place. Struck by the bungalow’s possibilities, Susie says, “we made a deal with the owner and moved in a few months later.”

Casey Key Cottage living room

“We wanted a pure white palette so we started off by painting all the walls white. I knew I would bring in inspiration from the water, so all our accents would be in aqua. Also, I wanted everything to be beach easy, with no fuss.”

Dining by the Sea

Mark and Susie worked side by side to transform the beach bungalow into the dreamy place that it is today, the place where they look back on their shared memories together and create new ones. Their first move to make the cottage their own? “We wanted a pure white palette so we started off by painting all the walls white,” Susie says. “I knew I would bring in inspiration from the water, so all our accents would be in aqua. Also, I wanted everything to be beach easy, with no fuss.”

Dining room with an open floorplan

“Even though the kitchen is small, it is part of what the cottage is: cozy and simplistic in an artful way.”

Since the couple love to entertain, the dining and living rooms were of the utmost importance. The dining room was spacious, so a sizeable table was essential for optimum hosting. Mark built an 8-foot farm-style table with legs from an old porch post, and Susie paired a 7-foot bench with it. When guests visit, they sit beneath a French chandelier and soak up the gorgeous ocean view.

Beach-inspired patio

Afterwards, they often enjoy a glass of wine in the living room, which adjoins the dining room. There they can view the water while enjoying Susie’s effortless, layered design aesthetic. Feminine touches like petite chandeliers contrast with chippy elements, like an old white coffee table. Beach-inspired accents, epitomized by old bottles and aqua glass, evoke a sense of sea and sand.

Compact kitchen with storage and display space

Cozy Cooking

The kitchen is an intersection of minimalism, style and function. “Even though the kitchen is small, it is part of what the cottage is: cozy and simplistic in an artful way,” Susie says. “It fits our life perfectly. Nothing makes me happier than looking out to the water as I prepare our meals.” Susie kept an original built-in cabinet, deeming it the ideal home for her collection of dishware. Its cutout doors showcase her dishes, while giving dimension to the room. The kitchen cabinets allow for storage and style: you can see the contents of each, allowing the dishware to act as décor.

Open shelves for displaying collectibles

Kitchen essentials like wooden cutting boards give the space an organic, ready-for-cooking feel, encouraging inhabitants to start stirring up a delicious meal. In the pantry, Susie filled the shelves with seabird mugs painted by her artist friend, Laura Della Porta. Then she and Mark hung a pair of cabinets right outside the kitchen. “They are perfect. They look like they are part of this old 1920s bungalow,” Susie comments. Mark also installed an old screen door which allows for easy—and chic—access to the kitchen.

Master retreat with romantic and luxurious bedding

Beautiful Bedroom

“The bedroom is a peaceful retreat. It’s exactly how a bedroom should be: tranquil and peaceful,” Susie says. “I picked a pure white palette because it evokes serenity.” The entire space is dedicated to calm and beauty. Like the sounds of ocean waves outside the window, airy curtains, soft blankets and elegant furniture soothe the senses. In keeping with her no-fuss commitment to easy elegance, the furniture is covered in slipcovers made at their shop. And there are more cozy places to rest than just the bed. Susie created a nook that begs for you to curl up with a good book and steaming cup of tea. “It’s my sweet corner of relaxation,” Susie says, describing the spot that features an overstuffed chair adorned with plush throw pillows. The bedroom also holds treasured possessions, like intricately framed mirrors that Susie will never part with, and a dresser that’s adorned with Susie’s beach chic, artist-made, one-of-a-kind pieces. For Susie and Mark, it becomes a haven at the end of the day and a bright, airy sendoff each morning.

Beach bungalow entrance with front porch and intricate details

As they enjoy life with each other and their cats in their coastal chic beach bungalow, Susie muses, “We feel blessed to wake up every day and hear the waves crashing on the beach.” Life, she says, has been good. “From working side by side with my soulmate in our store to creating this home, it’s the dream of all dreams.”

Book a stay at the Sundial Beach Resort & Spa for an oceanfront experience with all of the amenities you could possibly need for a romantic weekend. All of their rooms come equipped with a full kitchen and an on site market that make beach picnics a breeze for your and your loved one.

Spend the weekend exploring the nature trails at the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge to spot native wildlife that includes endangered species like the West Indian Manatee or to watch the sunset with your sweetheart.

To get a taste of the suite life, book a room at Casa Ybel Resort . All of the suites at this resort are positioned to give guests unparalleled views of the crystal blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Their comfortable beachfront rooms are the perfect place to relax after spending the day hunting for shells along the shores of Bowman’s Beach . Bowman’s Beach is the most well known beach in Sanibel and offers visitors miles of secluded, picturesque white sands with one of the highest concentrations of seashells in the area.

Marco Island

This peaceful Florida island is fully surrounded by crystal clear water, estuaries filled with rare and endangered animal species, and plenty of sandbars for exploring. Nestled between Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge and Everglades National Park, this island is a popular spot for birdwatching, fishing, shell hunting, and other outdoor activities.

There are seriously tonnes of fun things to do in Marco Island for couples – it is a rather underrated area in Florida if you ask me which means one good thing – less people around! Also, this means it is one of the best cheap romantic getaways in Florida. Remember, price is all about supply and demand.

For a unique thrill, take a guided airboat tour along the waters in Everglades National Park to catch a glimpse of alligators in their natural habitat. Other than the abundant nature activities, the laidback lifestyle of this island has also made golf a popular pastime for visiting guests.

There is lots of awesome places to stay in Marco Island but the JW Marriott is definitely our favorite for couples and honeymooners. Guests staying at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort can enjoy easy access to their two private championship courses, The Rookery and Hammock Bay, as well as other surrounding area courses.

Guests playing a round at The Rookery won’t have to leave nature behind because this specially designed course has been recognized as a Gold Certified Signature Sanctuary designated by Audubon International to provide haven to native wildlife including bald eagles, alligators, and blue heron. After working up an appetite on the golf course, immerse yourself in a unique culinary experience at one of the hotel’s 12 on site restaurants featuring a variety of international cuisines.

Romantic Getaways in Florida Keys

Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go? These tropical islands at the farthest southern tip of the state are well known for their aqua blue waters, guided snorkeling tours, and plentiful beach bars and tropical cocktails. Spend the weekend wastin’ away again in Margaritaville enjoying mixed cocktails, blended drinks, and a huge menu of bar food favorites.

For an all inclusive beachfront stay for couples , book a room at the award winning Bungalows Key Largo , Florida’s premiere adults only resort. This luxury resort features an expansive oceanfront infinity pool, guided yoga classes in their zen garden, and private sailing or fishing charters for a true locals experience. It is one of the best places to propose in Florida if you are looking for somewhere special.

If you’re looking for a private island suite, check out Little Palm Island Resort & Spa , A Noble House Resort. Equipped with their own marina, this resort is the perfect place for sailors to trade in their sea legs for a few romantic nights on land.

For a more budget-friendly option, check out Cheeca Lodge & Spa featuring flexible rate booking and a generous cancellation policy. With private balcony hot tubs, adults only swimming pools, an oceanfront tiki bar, and full-service water sports facility on site, you’ll find everything you need at Cheeca Lodge & Spa.

No trip to the Florida Keys is complete without a stop at the world famous Duval Street in Key West, one of the best free things to do in Key West (note key West is an expensive place to be!). Saturated with activities, bars, restaurants, nightlife, museums, and more, this approximately one mile long stretch of the city has something for everyone to enjoy! While The Keys are not a cheap romantic getaway in Florida, they sure are cool and well worth the extra buck!

There are lots of cool places to swim with Dolphins in the Florida Keys which is also a fun activity to do!

St. Augustine

This Florida gem lays claim as the oldest city in the US and is well known for its unique Spanish colonial architecture, tranquil beaches, and charming small town atmosphere. Definitely one of the most romantic places to visit in Florida !

Their private enclosed courtyards, vintage architecture, and candlelit porches provide romantic ambiance for your and your loved one to enjoy a quiet evening in the warm Florida air.

For a unique experience, take a walking tour of the historic Castillo de San Marcos fort. Over 300 years ago, this Spanish style fort provided protection from opposing military forces and in 1924 became recognized as a National Monument and historic site.

After visiting the fort, head over to take a sip of the magical elixir at Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park to stay young forever! The park is dedicated to preserving the historical accuracy of this site while providing visitors a fun, yet educational experience centered around the saga of Juan Ponce de Leon as well as the tragedy of the Timucua civilization that once called this land home.

Here's How To Visit The Beach House From Nights In Rodanthe

Inn at Rodanthe

Are you a fan of love stories and second chances? The Inn at Rodanthe may be instilled in your mind from George C. Wolfe's romantic drama film based on novelist Nicholas Sparks' " Nights in Rodanthe ," which is associated with love and loss along the eastern coastline of North Carolina's Outer Banks. Despite nearly being swept away into the Atlantic Ocean following film production in 2008, the Victorian style beach house remains as enduring as Adrienne (Diane Lane) and Paul's (Richard Gere) love. Formerly known as the Serendipity, Debra and Ben Huss purchased the enchanting inn as a residential property in 2010. It was again listed on the real estate market in 2018 for $1.25 million, per Realtor . According to the listing, the 6-bedroom, 5-bathroom beach house is currently off the market and being utilized as a vacation rental .

With 2,933 square feet, the four-story beach manor features private decks, a hot tub, beach access, and miles of captivating shoreline; all of which you too can enjoy by spending a blissful night there. Built in 1988, the iconic Inn at Rodanthe is available for booking year-round. Guests are clearly quite satisfied with their stay, as shown by the $130,000 or so the rental grosses each year. Keep reading to learn more about how to stay at the inn!

Saving the Inn at Rodanthe

Filming for "Nights in Rodanthe" took place in May 2007 with many of the Outer Banks' scenes captured in front of the home, and along the beaches, including the Hatteras Village ferry terminal. Originally located about a ½ mile from its current location, the inn was close to being taken over by the ocean. According to Realtor , damage was so bad that the property was deemed by local officials as condemned. But life for this house was not over yet. After purchasing the diminishing cottage, the Huss couple decided to give it a second chance.

Facing demise by the encroaching Atlantic, the magnificent beachfront property had to be moved from its original spot. Professionals at  Expert House Movers , the same company that moved the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in 1999, were the ones to do it. Weighing about 83,000 pounds, it took two days to secure the structure onto a four-wheeler for its 30-minute voyage down the road to where it sits today, per Sun Realty NC .

Take a closer look at the epic Inn at Rodanthe

Situated on the breathtaking coast of Hatteras Island at 23289 Beacon Road E, Rodanthe, NC, the oceanfront property's presence is impressive upon arrival. Even though the interior shots of "Nights in Rodanthe" were filmed on a sound stage, the proprietors managed to recreate the interior much like it appears in the film. The interior is quaint and cozy with traditional beach cottage wood finishes and furnishings. The main floor has an open concept with living and dining areas, including a full bath, laundry area, wet bar, and a secluded oceanfront haven. There's even a small round café table where Richard Gere's character would have eaten his dinner by candlelight. According to Outer Beaches Realty , there is also a fireplace, but it's not available for guest use.

The second floor features the well-known bedrooms from the movie. The remaining coastal style bedrooms are further up on the third floor. The top fourth floor contains the honeymoon suite, which offers the relaxing feel of a secluded retreat along with definitive views of the island. Similar features matched from the film, which were added later, are the bright blue hurricane shutters, the sea blue-green kitchen cabinets, custom double swing doors, and the vintage floral wallpaper that matches the color of the cabinetry, per Outer Banks . There are other not-to-miss decorative pieces from the film set such as lamps and the memorable oak desk too.

How to stay at the Inn at Rodanthe

Make memories in the OBX. Whether you're coming in by plane or making the scenic drive, you'll need to take State Highway 12 to arrive at the Inn at Rodanthe. There are a few small airports nearby, but Norfolk International might be the best for those flying in from out of state. Outer Beaches Realty  (OBR) says the oceanfront beach house sleeps up to 12 and offers wireless internet, cable/satellite TV, and an outdoor grill. It's important to note however, that the rental is not pet friendly. Once booked, information is emailed regarding the VayK Gear program, which invites visitors to rent various beach necessities during their stay like bikes, kayaks, paddle boards, and more. If you need a break from the sand and waves, you can access the OBR community pool in Avon, which is about 17 miles south. Popular for fishing, Rodanthe Pier is also just a few miles away.

How much does it cost to stay the night? Depending on the time of year, prices will vary. The average price from December to March is approximately $350 to $450 a night, while April through August ranges from about $500 to $1000 (or more); prices decrease again in September. As the inn books ups regularly for the summer, it's best to book at least a year in advance. There is a 3-night minimum. For more information, the property is currently managed by Vacasa North Carolina, LLC, per Outer Beaches Realty.

This Sea Island Home Was Inspired by a Brass Handbag, Seashells, and a Vintage Book About 'Jaws'

Designer Ellen Kavanaugh teamed up with a long-lost friend to create a house filled with vintage glam, natural touches and a Lowcountry color palette.

The innate need to create a home is something many of us are born with, and it begins revealing itself from an early age. We may have spent hours of our youth building pillow forts (bonus points if you were allowed to have a sleepover in them), sourcing just the right pieces to fill an heirloom dollhouse, or constructing sand castles to house hermit crabs caught on the shore.

While Kavanaugh has lived in Palm Beach since graduating college, the designer grew up farther north on Florida’s Atlantic coast in Jacksonville, where she and her client shared the same neighborhood, played in the same marshes, and rode bikes with the same pastel sunset as their evening backdrop. The client had dreamed of having a beach house for years, and one day, she finally found the perfect fit in a home on Sea Island, Georgia, a place that shares a similar terrain, climate, and color palette to their idyllic hometown.

She knew right away that Kavanaugh was just the person to help transform her own lifelong dream into a colorful reality. “I spent a lot of time in marsh-front settings growing up, so getting to work on Sea Island is very nostalgic to me,” Kavanaugh says. “It’s just in my soul; it’s very serene and calming to me.”

ellen kavanaugh sea island backyard

The house was built by Robert Raley, a prominent architect on Georgia’s Golden Coast, in 1987 (his drawings of this home are at the Philadelphia Museum of Art). The house had great bones, but it needed modernizing to fit an active family of five that frequently entertains. The entire kitchen was gutted and the bathrooms were given a 21st century refresh, but the biggest change was the addition of a generous covered loggia out back that would allow the clients and their loved ones to engage with the spectacular setting.

“It started with an organic conversation about how the clients wanted to use the home, and here was this amazing view of the marsh, but there was nowhere to actually sit and enjoy it,” says Kavanaugh. “It was only natural to build a beautiful outdoor living space off the great room with these comfy club chairs that would bring the outdoors in and the indoors out in a cohesive way.”

Coming up with an interior aesthetic was equally as organic, as Kavanaugh says her childhood friend is a creative in her own right. The designer walked into the client’s home one day for their first meeting to find her dining table transformed into a 3D mood board with a range of lifestyle pieces from a brass handbag to a collection of seashells to a vintage book about the iconic Jaws film.

small modern kitchen iridescent tile backsplash sea island ellen kavanaugh

“It was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen a client do,” says Kavanaugh. “Here were all these random lifestyle pieces scattered across the table, but they gave us the vibe right away. We immediately got a sense of what the house needed to look like: a bit of throwback '70s and '80s glam mixed with this very natural beach house that needed to be filled with casual materials and textures.”

Kavanaugh and project manager Madison Way started bringing the home to life by leaning into Sea Island’s Lowcountry color palette with earthy greens, rusty pinks, natural taupes, and golden hues that paired swimmingly with the home’s ample use of cypress wood. From there, the pair thoughtfully brought in a mix of vintage and custom pieces to help create a sense of retro glamour that feels akin to a well-collected beachfront home on Bermuda or in the Bahamas. While some spaces are sleek and shiny, the house ultimately feels as if it’s been carefully added to over the years by various generations of the family.

The kitchen is a prime example of uniting the laid-back Lowcountry with nostalgic-chic coastal glamour, as it features cabinets that painted a “super soft, barely there blush,” beechwood counter stools, brass accents, and a showstopping iridescent backsplash from Paris Ceramics that melds the best of retro and rugged. The rest of the home is bold in highlighting its surrounding environment, as the other rooms are swathed in palm print and grasscloth wallcoverings, and each space is a treasure trove of coastal-inspired art, decor, and greenery.

“This house touches on all these childhood memories we’ve shared over the years, plus the '70s glam that we saw from our parents,” says Kavanaugh. “Then you have this Lowcountry, casual feel that gives the right mix of everything.”

The designer says that the most rewarding aspects of this project were rekindling such an important friendship from her early years and working within a setting that means so much to her.

“It fills my soul so much getting to work in a place like Sea Island among the live oaks and Spanish moss,” she says. “It’s truly where I came from. We don’t have these colors and textures in Palm Beach, so it was such a treat to work with a friend in this beautiful setting on this amazing home together."

Wander through the green rolling hills and sheep pastures, and take in the history in this beautiful country. Try taking a hike up to Arthur's Seat for sweeping views, check out Edinburgh's Old Town for quaint architecture and fun museums (such as the Writers' Museum), and wander down the Royal Mile to take in street performers. Be sure to stop at a whiskey distillery for a sip or two — try Highland Park or Old Pulteney — and consider staying at Gleneagles Hotel, which sits on a 850-acre estate and has its own train station.

British Virgin Islands

Have a relaxing, sunny beach vacation in the beautiful British Virgin Islands. Play in the water and lounge on the sand at some of the most beautiful beaches — visit Cane Garden Bay Beach or Smuggler's Cove Beach for fewer crowds and more privacy. Also try swimming and snorkeling in Spring Bay, sailing to Anegada Island. Check out Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina, which sits on its own 230-acre private island at the east end of Tortola. It has 52 guest accommodations, plus two-, three-, four- and six-bedroom villas, a spa, restaurants, two private beaches, and a 55-slip marina.

The grounds have terracotta villas sculpted into the hillside with secluded suites.

Relax together at Estrella Spa or Azure Spa Palm Springs, where you can get desert-inspired treatments.

Visit Senja's Lighthouse, which has 360-degree views of mountain, fjord, and sky. It is also close to Anderdalen National Park, where you can ski or snowshoe in the winter and hike in the summer.

This African country has endless wilderness to take in with your love, including the plains of Serengeti National Park. Take a safari for chances to see the country's famous animals, including elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, and rhinos. Then visit Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa's highest mountain.

"Virginia is for lovers" — and once you visit, you'll see why. This state has a number of historic museums, gardens, and parks to explore — visit Shenandoah National Park, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, or Maymont to take in the scenery. While checking out Virginia's local wine scene, stay at L'Auberge Provencale. The inn has warm hospitality, delicious food, and some of the rooms have private patios, aromatherapy steam showers, and fireplaces. Each room is individually decorated with French country antiques and original artwork, making it feel as though you've been transported to Provence.

Tuscany, Italy

Tuscany is the perfect place for a romantic getaway — it's breathtakingly beautiful at every turn, with plenty of delicious food and wines to indulge in. Be sure to dine at Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence or La Cantinetta Di Rignana in Chianti, both of which have Italian cuisine you'll be dreaming about for years to come. Stay at Castello di Ristonchi, a 1,000-year-old medieval castle, which sits high in the Tuscan hills overlooking quaint villages, vineyards, and olive groves. Couples can even book the former watchtower at the very top — you can open your window and look out on an Italian fairytale setting.

Blue Ridge, Georgia

This mountain town in northern Georgia has an artistic community, several brewpubs, and delicious restaurants. Be sure to check out Bear Claw Vineyard for its beautiful view or Mercier Orchards, the only apple orchard in Georgia that grows, presses, ferments, and bottles their own hard apple cider and farm wines. For beer, visit Grumpy Old Men Brewing, Blue Ridge Brewery, and Fannin Brewing Company.

Port Angeles, Washington

This beautiful seaside city overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and boasts a great array of small luxury bed and breakfasts. Each inn has a unique style and personality, but all have views of the water, San Juan Islands, and beautiful gardens. Try Colette's, George Washington Inn, Eden By The Sea, or Sea Cliff Gardens, each of which have their own distinctive vibe. While in town, visit Olympic National Park for hiking or water sports.

Daufuskie Island, South Carolina

This tiny island is only accessible by boat, offering a perfectly secluded romantic getaway. Stay a few nights at the Haig Point Lighthouse, a real lighthouse that has a 40-foot tower, plus a fireplace and clawfoot bathtub, as well as a rocking chair-lined porch with views of the Calibogue Sound. Take a trip by bike or horseback on the beach with Daufuskie Trail Rides.

Savannah, Georgia

This beautiful southern city has something for every couple. Book a room at The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront, and take a stroll along the river. Be sure to get some delicious southern food while you're in town, and after dinner, take a romantic walk through Forsyth Park and admire the stunning architecture of the nearby homes.

Nova Scotia, Canada

This stunning part of Canada has scenery that you and your significant other will never forget. Try staying at a bed and breakfast or local AirBnB to get a true feel for the area. Be sure to check out the art galleries in Peggy's Cove and go for a sunrise sail on Halifax Harbour. Visit Digby to see the dramatic tidal changes and wander on the beautiful beaches.

Sedona, Arizona

Relax at one of the many spas and soak in the calming spirit in this Arizona town. Book a stay at the new Wilde Resort & Spa to take advantage of the beautiful setting and full-service spa. This area is known for its incredible natural beauty, so get out and go for a hike to take in all the unique rock formations. Dine at restaurants like Cress on Oak Creek, Dahl & Di Luca Ristorante, or The Golden Goose American Grill, which has both a fine dining room and an outdoor patio.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Even if you don't like to tango, you should definitely visit this romantic city (with someone you'd like to tango with). Book a room at Palacio Duhau—Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, a former mansion transformed into a hotel. Shop among the antiques markets and wander the cobblestone streets, stopping to tango (or just watch) at Bar Sur.

What is the best island for a Hawaii romantic vacation?

Honestly, there is something romantic about each of the islands and there is no one singular most romantic island. But there are key differences between them that will make your trip just a little different.

We usually think of Maui as the best generally romantic island, thanks to its excellent resorts, plentiful fine dining, and the only adults-only resort on the island. But there are other options to consider to find the right romantic island for you:

  • Kauai is the best for a secluded getaway, especially upon its rugged north shore
  • Oahu is best for a more cosmopolitan trip with historic sights, museums, and plenty of nightlife
  • The Big Island is the winner for an adventurous romantic escape where you can hike in Volcanoes National Park, snorkel with Manta Rays , and stargaze atop Mauna Kea
  • Lana’i is the best option for a wellness-themed romantic vacation at the Sensei Lana’i

You can read more about what makes each island so special for a romantic getaway or compare our top two favorites with Maui vs Kauai for your honeymoon .

What are the most romantic resorts in Hawaii?

Hawaii is home to some very nice, very luxurious resorts. You don’t have to stay in a 5-star resort to have a 5-star romantic vacation, but if romance = luxury for you, we have some excellent suggestions:

  • Maui: head to the only true adults-only hotel on the island, Hotel Wailea
  • Oahu: the Halekulani is a true gem, right in Waikiki but it feels very secluded
  • Big Island: this small inn in the hills is a luxurious escape
  • Kauai: 1 Hotel Hanalei just opened and offers a sweetheart getaway. See our 7 Best Kauai Honeymoon Resorts for more ideas.

Our Where to Stay section has even more suggestions for your perfect romantic escape.

What are the most romantic restaurants on each island?

  • Maui: Mama’s Fish House is our go-to, but reservations can be hard to come by. We also really enjoy The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea . Plus we have a list of 10 beachfront and private dining options to consider.
  • Oahu: We love the Halekulani Hotel so we can’t help but recommend the House Without a Key for sunset pupus or a full dinner. Views of Diamond Head make this spectacular.
  • Kauai: The Beach House is such a special spot, especially for sunset views. Book a table inside or eat lounge-style on the lawn. Live music gives this place a great vibe.
  • Big Island: Mauna Lani might be our favorite hotel on the island and its restaurant, The Canoe House , doesn’t disappoint.

And if you’re looking for a reliable, fantastic, and romantic restaurant that has a location on each island, look no further than Merriman’s .

The best activities for your Hawaii romantic vacation

Sometimes just hanging out on the beach and walking hand in hand is enough for your trip. But if you’re looking for a little something extra, we have activities that wow.

If cruising around at sunset with a drink in your hand sounds like your perfect romantic night out, check out our list of the best sunset sails . And if you want to start your stay with an airport lei greeting , we have recommendations.

  • Maui: BYOB and head to a farm tour and gourmet lunch . We did this with our toddler but I think it would be even better as a date. We have a list of 9 other romantic activities for the island.
  • Oahu: Head to the North Shore for a beach trail horseback ride
  • Maui, Kauai, Oahu: Book a private chef for an authentic and personal Hawaiian dinner. Try local chefs like Chef Daniel at Elite Maui Chefs or Chef Amanda Smith at 808-639-1578.
  • Kauai: 80% of Kauai is inaccessible by foot or car, so take to the skies for a unique view with a helicopter or airplane ride .
  • Big Island: See the stars with this Mauna Kea Summit stargazing tour. If you’d rather stay at sea level with your astronomy adventures, this stargazing experience is a great one.

Inside Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Friendship With Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid

Taylor Swift Travis Kelce Bradley Cooper Gigi Hadid Friendship Explained

Taylor Swift and Gigi Hadid have been close friends for years, but how do their boyfriends — Travis Kelce and Bradley Cooper , respectively — factor into the friendship? Pretty well, it would appear to Us .

Swift and Kelce’s relationship has topped headlines since they went public with their romance in 2023. As for Hadid and Cooper, the couple has not publicly addressed their relationship, but they have also been linked since last year.

Despite the BFFs’ respective romances, Swift and Hadid have known each other for almost a decade as they were first photographed together at a Vanity Fair Oscars party in 2014.

In a May 2017 cover story for Harper’s Bazaar , Swift gushed about her friendship with Hadid. “As a friend, Gigi is one of the first people I go to for advice ,” the “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” singer told the outlet at the time. “She has this incredible ability to see all sides of a situation and simplify it for you, to see the complexity of people.”

Bradley and Gigi Used Taylor’s Beach House as a Romantic Getaway

Taylor Swift House Was Perfect Getaway for Gigi Hadid Bradley Cooper

In October 2023, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that Cooper, 49, and Hadid, 29, had used Swift’s Rhode Island beach house as a getaway pad amid speculation surrounding their May-December relationship. Cooper is 20 years Hadid’s senior.

“Taylor and Gigi have been close friends for years,” the insider said at the time, noting that when the “Down Bad” singer, 34, learned that Hadid and Cooper “could use a low-key place to meet up, she was more than happy to let them use her property on the coast of Rhode Island.”

The source noted that Hadid had already been to the coastal home “a bunch of times and thought it was the perfect place to get away from it all.” Cooper and Hadid were first linked in early October 2023 when they were spotted out together in New York City.

Gigi Thought Taylor Was Moving Too Fast With Travis

Gigi Hadid 'Doesn't Approve' of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's Romance: 'Too Much, Too Soon'

An insider revealed exclusively to Us in November 2023 that Gigi was hesitant about how quickly her friend’s relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was progressing. Swift and Kelce, 34, began dating in summer 2023 and took their relationship public in September of that year.

“One of the reasons Gigi hasn’t attended any of Travis’ games is because she doesn’t agree with the way Taylor has been acting with [him],” the source told Us at the time, though noted that Hadid “adores” Swift.

“She feels like Taylor is doing too much, too soon,” the source added.

Bradley Is a Huge Eagles Fan

Bradley Cooper New York

Cooper, a Pennsylvania native, is an avid Eagles fan — the team Travis’ brother, Jason Kelce , played for before announcing his retirement from the NFL earlier this year. Cooper even watched the Philly squad defeat the New England Patriots in the 2018 Super Bowl as a guest of owner Jeffrey Lurie .

The Maestro director and star notably said in a November 2023 interview with Howard Stern that he would rather see the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl than take home an Oscar. When Stern asked Cooper the “big question” about which victory he’d prefer, Cooper replied, “Eagles Super Bowl victory. I know, I’m sick.”

Cooper’s choice got the seal of approval from Travis’ sister-in-law, Kylie Kelce , who wrote in the comments section, “Without hesitation. 🤌🥹.”

The Foursome Took a Couples Trip Together

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Took Couples Trip With Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper

Following the April 19 release of Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , the foursome spent some time together on vacation in California.

The information came by way of Travis’ mom, Donna Kelce , who shared during the QVC’s Age of Possibility summit in Las Vegas on April 24 that she had received a picture of the group enjoying some downtime in the coastal town of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

According to People , Donna also shared that Travis knew Cooper would be at the same Summit as his mother. Cooper attended the event to serve Danny and Coop’s Philly Cheesesteaks. Donna reportedly greeted him by saying, “Travis told me you were going to be here.”

Travis, Gigi, and Bradley Attend ‘Eras Tour’ Concert in Paris

Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper Spotted Together at Taylor Swift's Final 'Eras Tour' Show in Paris

Hadid and Cooper stepped out for a date night at Swift’s final Eras Tour show in Paris on May 12. Per social media footage, the couple was joined by Kelce as they watched the show from a private box at Paris La Défense Arena.

The trio sang and danced along to the pop star’s biggest hits while she performed her 87th show on the Eras Tour . Fittingly, this corresponds with Travis’ Chiefs jersey number.

While recapping the concert on his “New Heights” podcast later that month, Travis gushed over spending time with the “amazing” couple. “Did you talk about the Eagles?” Jason asked his brother, who replied, “Of course.”
