As the longest break in the UAE begins today, most residents have made plans to kick back and relax. Yet, the country's main border crossing with Oman has yet to see the long queues generally associated with Eid holidays.

As it turns out, that is because many residents are waiting for the holy month of Ramadan to come to an end before they leave the emirates.

"It's quite difficult to be fasting while travelling," Egyptian expat Rana El-Sayeh told Khaleej Times. The Dubai resident said she intends to fly out after the holy month. "We're fasting, so we can't eat food at a resort. What's the point of staying there?"

Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels.

El-Sayeh also said that she wants to be able to fast properly during the holy month, which is why she decided against leaving the country before Eid Al Fitr. "I planned in advance and decided to travel only on Wednesday, as the day of Eid had not been declared."

'No rush at UAE border'

Residents that have planned road trips say they cannot drive for long stretches during Ramadan. "Driving while fasting is difficult, so we're going to offer our Eid prayers and then leave for Salalah by car. My husband and I will take turns driving," Dubai resident Sehr Khan said.

Most people fasting have not yet left the comfort of their homes, which can be seen at the main UAE border, where there are virtually no queues.

Dubai resident M George was pleasantly surprised at how quickly he and his family made it past the border. "I visit Muscat at least once or twice a year during long weekends," says the former Oman resident.

"From former experience as well as the reports we've been reading , we were expecting proper tailbacks at the Hatta-Oman crossing and planned to leave home very early in the morning to try and beat traffic. Unfortunately, we ended up starting our journey only around 10am — but to our great surprise, there was very minimal rush at the border. We were able to drive through both checkpoints in under an hour!"

"We're now through to the other side and, although it's been one hour, we've yet to see another Dubai-licensed vehicle on the roads. Usually, there are dozens of others that can be spotted alongside us."

Heavy floods hit uae, other gulf states; 18 die in oman.

oman visit for uae residents

DUBAI: Dubai’s major international airport began diverting all incoming flights on Tuesday as heavy rains lashed the city, causing widespread flooding.

The world’s busiest air hub for international passengers, which had been expecting more than 100 flights on Tuesday evening, earlier briefly halted its operations in the chaos caused by the storm.

Dubai has been paralysed by the torrential rain that caused floods around the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, and left 18 dead in Oman on Sunday and Monday. “Due to the continued exceptional weather event currently being experienced in the UAE, Dubai International is temporarily diverting inbound flights due to arrive this evening,” a Dubai Airports spokesperson said, adding that departures will continue.

Images on social media showed planes taxiing across an apron flooded with standing water. Similar scenes were repeated across Dubai and elsewhere in the UAE as the desert country, better known for its arid climate and intense summer heat, reeled from the storm.

Flagship shopping centres Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates both suffered flooding and water was ankle-deep in at least one Dubai Metro station, according to images posted on social media. Roads and residential communities also suffered heavy flooding and many residents reported leaks from roofs, doors and windows.

Schools were shut across the UAE and were expected to remain closed on Wednesday, when further storms are forecast. Dubai’s government also extended remote working for its employees into Wednesday.

Some inland areas of the UAE recorded more than 80 millimetres (3.2 inches) of rain over 24 hours to 8am, approaching the annual average of about 100mm.

The weather board “urged residents to take all the precautions… and to stay away from areas of flooding and water accumulation” in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Bahrain was also hit by heavy rain and flooding after being pummelled by thunder and lightning overnight.

150 Pakistanis stranded at Al Ain Airport

Meanwhile, some 150 passengers were stranded for hours at the UAE’s Al Ain Airport on Tuesday. Their flight, Flydubai FZ-334, en route from Karachi to Dubai, was diverted due to heavy rainfall that flooded the Dubai airport, making it impossible for the aircraft to land.

A video shared by a passenger showed the extent of flooding at Dubai Airport, highlighting the severe weather conditions that led to the diversion. According to Flightradar, a real-time flight tracking service, the flight, which was supposed to land in Dubai at 12:45pm, was rerouted to Al Ain, landing there around 4pm.

Upon arrival, the situation worsened for the passengers, as they reported a lack of basic amenities at Al Ain Airport, which is smaller and less equipped than Dubai’s international hub. Passengers voiced their frustration over the absence of food, stating that neither lunch nor dinner was provided.

They said there were no accommodations available and the airport lacked sufficient dining facilities. The airline and airport authorities couldn’t be immediately reached for comment.

Visa on arrival in Oman for GCC residents of all professions

Entry will not be denied as long as residence visa is valid for no less than 3 months

REG 210425 TRAVEL

Dubai: All GCC residents of all professions will now be allowed to enter Oman from all borders for business, tourism or any other purposes.

Residents, however, still need visas, which can be obtained upon arrival at all GCC border posts, local media reported.

According to a circular issued by Oman Airports, Oman currently allows all GCC residents holding a valid residence and work visa granted by the immigration authorities of the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia or Qatar, regardless of their professions. However, visas will be issued on arrival for a fee. The GCC residents cannot be denied entry as long as the residence visa is valid for a period of no less than three months.

The new circular from the Directorate General of Passports and Residence regarding the visa of residents of GCC countries said: All residents of the GCC countries have the right to enter the Sultanate of Oman for all commercial professions; it is not required for people to come from the country of residence, meaning a resident of any GCC country is not required to arrive directly from that GCC country to avail this facility. It is permitted at any time and from any destination they arrive from; it is required that the residence visa be valid in the GCC for a period of no less than three months and the above mentioned procedures referred to are applied.

Dubai Police clearance certificate for good conduct: What is it and how to get one

Dubai Police clearance certificate for good conduct: What is it and how to get one

The Dubai Police clearance certificate is a document of good conduct.

The certificate verifies that the person in whose name the document is issued has a clean record when it comes to legal and security issues.

Several organisations in Dubai require a good conduct certificate to be submitted for the purpose of work, study, immigration, obtaining a licence, etc.

Who can get the certificate?

The certificate can be issued to residents, including citizens, former residents who are no longer inside the country, and even visitors.

Documents required

Emirates ID (for residents), unified number and passport (if the applicant is a visitor), old residence visa or Emirates ID (for former residents).

Filling up the form

The form asks for basic details such as category of the applicant (resident, visitor, etc). The applicant then needs to enter details of Emirates ID, phone number, email address, purpose of certificate, language in which the certificate needs to be issued, and name of the entity to which the certificate has to be addressed.

Once all the details have been filled up, select the captcha and submit the form.

On the next page, the details entered on the previous page will be displayed for verification. If everything is fine, click on ‘submit’, else ‘edit’.

You will then be asked to verify your phone number. This is important as Dubai Police will send you an OTP in order to proceed with the next steps. You will have an option to edit your phone number if the details displayed are incorrect.

Once you receive the OTP, enter it on the page and click ‘submit’.

You will now be asked to make the payment.

How much does the certificate cost?

The certificate costs AED100 for citizens and AED200 for residents. Non-residents have to pay a fee of AED300 or $88. Additionally, AED20 needs to be paid as knowledge/innovation fees.

Once you make the payment, the certificate will be delivered to your email address after your records are verified with the relevant authorities.

Other requirements

According to the Dubai Police website, applicants without an Emirates ID should visit a police service centre (Al Qusais Police Station or Ports Police Station) to get their fingerprints taken.

Applicants outside the UAE who do not have an Emirates ID must attach a fingerprints card after acquiring an attestation from the UAE embassy.

Validity of the certificate

The certificate is valid for a period of three months from the date of issue.

Now that you know how to apply for a Dubai Police clearance certificate, you can avail of the service here .
