Crawley Town manager Scott Lindsey has apologised on behalf of his captain after Jay Williams' late tackle led to Brighton's new signing Matt O'Riley hobbling off injured inside eight minutes at the Amex.

Seagulls fan were looking forward to seeing their £25m man's debut against Crawley - and were left instead to worry about his fitness after a promising start to the season.

The League Two side held on at Holker Street against newly-promoted Championship outfit Derby to force penalties after a 0-0 stalemate - and performed superbly from the spot to knock out the Rams in astonishing fashion.

Some BIG second round upsets...

Leyton Orient have knocked out Championship side Millwall with a 1-0 win, holding on after Dan Agyei opened the scoring in the 14th minute.

Meanwhile, fellow Championship outfit Blackburn have crashed out of the competition after losing 2-1 to Blackpool - and Barnsley have won 1-0 against Sheffield United.

But it's not the biggest upset of the night...!

Goal: What a strike from Winks!

Harry Winks gets what he deserves after an excellent afternoon at the King Power, netting without doubt the goal of the game.

Hamza Choudury passes the ball to the ex-Spurs midfielder some way outside the penalty area, but it doesn't deter him from having a pop - and Winks' strike thunders through the Tranmere bodies into the bottom left hand corner.

Leceister 4-0 up now. Game over.

Goal: Crystal Palace 3-0 Norwich

Crystal Palace are heading towards their first win of the season in emphatic fashion, taking their lead to 3-0 against Championship side Norwich.

Eberechi Eze dances down the wing before cutting a ball back to Jean-Philippe Mateta on the penalty spot, who picks up his second of the evening with an excellent strike.

Goal: Brighton 4-0 Crawley

Captain Adam Webster thunders his header into the Crawley net from a Brighton corner to put the home side 3-0 up.

Moments later, Mark O'Mahoney makes it two goals in less than two minutes to cap off a great display at the Amex.

Meanwhile, Preston's Milutin Osmajic has scored a hat-trick against Harrogate, taking the visitors to a 5-0 lead.

Goal: Everton 3-0 Doncaster

The floodgates have opened at Goodison Park - and boy does that feel good for Toffees fans!

Beto - who has struggled for goals of late - breathes a huge sigh of relief after calmly finishing off an excellent move from the home side, poking the ball past the goalkeeper to fire Everton 3-0 ahead.

Hopefully that will build momentum for the Toffees ahead of their Premier League clash against Bournemouth this weekend.

My word! Jean-Philippe Mateta has just scored a stunning overhead kick to put Crystal Palace 2-0 up.

After being denied a glorious goal from Eberechi Eze in the first half, that one felt good at Selhurst Park!

Oliver Glasner's side are heading to the third round - and deservedly so...

Goal: Everton 2-0 Doncaster

It looks like Sean Dyche is about to earn his first win of the season.

An excellent goal from Iliman Ndiaye doubles Everton's lead at Goodison Park - and showed fans just what the Toffees have been missing in attacking areas.

Meanwhile, Walsall are now AHEAD against Huddersfield, going 3-2 in front after Michal Helik's unfortunate own goal.

Goal: Leicester 3-0 Tranmere

That should be that at the King Power! Wilfred Ndidi charges into the box slot home and fire the Foxes 3-0 up against Tranmere, all but booking their place in the Carabao Cup third round.

Elsewhere, Walsall have completed a sensational comeback against Huddersfield, capitalising against 10 men to make it 2-2 thanks to a brace from Nathan Lowe. All to play for!

Battle of the ex-Red Devils!

Tom Cleverley so far has the edge over his former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney, with his Watford side 2-0 up against Plymouth thanks to Mileta Rajovic's brace.

Is this curtains for Rooney's Carabao Cup hopes?

FT: Middlesbrough 0-5 Stoke

Stoke become the first team through to the Carabao Cup third round after a second-half capitulation from Middlesbrough, who will be bitterly disappointed with the manner of their exit tonight.

The Potters went into the break 1-0 ahead through Emre Tezgel, before Ryan Mmaee, Lewis Koumas and Million Manhoef ran riot at the Riverside in the second half, earning their side a superb 5-0 win.

Plenty for Michael Carrick to ponder...

Goal: Leicester 2-0 Tranmere

Stephy Mavididi doubles the Foxes' lead in the 51st minute from the penalty spot, giving Tranmere a mountain to climb to turn around the tie at the King Power.

Meanwhile, Max Watters has put Barnsley 1-0 in front against Sheffield United and Bolton are ahead against Shrewsbury thanks to Jordi Osei-Tutu.

Goal: FINALLY a goal for Everton

Two summer signings link up for Everton shortly after half time to hand the Toffees a much-needed 1-0 lead to calm the frustrated Goodison crowd.

Jesper Lindstrom cuts inside before passing to Tim Iroegbunam on the edge of the area, and the former Aston Villa man fires into the net to put Everton ahead.

A great goal from the midfielder.

Goal: Brighton 2-0 Crawley

During half-time at the Amex, Brighton's new summer signing Ferdi Kadioglu has come out to meet the fans.

And it seems his introduction has given the Seagulls a boost after the break, as Jeremy Sarmiento dribbles into the box superbly and fires the ball into the roof of the net to hand Fabian Hurzeler's side a 2-0 lead.

Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday have levelled terms at Grimsby - it's 1-1 there.

This has been a disaster for Michael Carrick's side.. Million Manhoef bags his second and Stoke's FIFTH of the game at the Riverside.

Not the first half Sean Dyche was looking for... Everton head into half time level with Doncaster after a frustrating 45 minutes at Goodison.

They're the only Premier League side not to be winning at the break... do we have an upset on our hands?

That should be that! Million Manhoef and Lewis Koumas put Stoke 4-0 ahead to surely put the tie beyond Middlesbrough.

Meanwhile, it's four for Preston at Harrogate, who haven't even got to half time yet.

Walsall may be 1-0 down but they've been handed a huge chance against Huddersfield here...

The visitors are now down to 10 men as Matty Pearson is given his marching orders for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

Wonder goal from Jordan Ayew! What a strike on his debut!

The former Crystal Palace man picks up the ball on the edge of the area and chops inside before thundering an effort past Tranmere's 43-year-old goalkeeper Murphy.

Meanwhile, Preston are making light work of tonight's clash with Harrogate, now leading 3-0 thanks to goals from Sam Greenwood and Milutin Osmajic.

Eze's superb goal disallowed

Palace nearly go two up in superb fashion as Eze strokes home a stunning lob over the goalkeeper at Selhurst Park.

But the England international's wonder goal is disallowed for offside, first flagged by the linesman before being confirmed by VAR.

Unlucky for Eze... but Norwich are just about still in this. Still 1-0.

Simon Adingra puts Brighton ahead against Crawley, who had controlled large parts of the game prior to the winger's strike.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood are back ahead against Rotherham thanks to Ryan Graydon's 29th minute goal, leading 2-1.

And just like that... Fulham are 2-0 up!

Joachim Andersen fires an excellent ball over the Blues defence towards Jay Stansfield, who slots home against his former club.

Poor defending from Birmingham... they've got a huge task on their hands now.

Raul Jimenez hands Fulham the lead in the 10th minute from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere, Grimsby are 1-0 ahead against Sheffield Wednesday thanks to Cameron McJannett - and Josh Koroma has given Huddersfield the lead against League Two outfit Walsall.

It's 1-0 to the Championship side after Makhtar Gueye's penalty kick in the 21st minute, handing Blackburn a deserved lead.

Mateta holds up the ball expertly before playing Kamada through for a one-on-one, and the new Eagles man skips around the goalkeeper to put the hosts ahead inside two minutes.

Joachim Andersen makes second Fulham debut

Joachim Andersen sealed his return to Craven Cottage with a £30million move from Crystal Palace, surprising many fans after appearing settled and in good form at Selhurst Park.

But the Dane has opted for a new chapter with Fulham, where he spent 2020-21 season on loan, and starts for Marco Silva at St Andrew's tonight.

He joins fellow summer signing Sander Berge in the starting XI and fellow Fulham returnee Ryan Sessegnon.

Leicester and Tranmere face off tonight in a repeat of the 2000 Football League Cup final, which the Foxes won 2-1 at Wembley.

Tranmere goalkeeper Joe Murphy stood between the sticks that day before going on to enjoy a storied career with the likes of West Brom, Sunderland and Coventry.

Where is he today? Starting in goal for Tranmere!

24 years on, Murphy is still going strong as a player coach for Tranmere, having returned to his boyhood club in 2020.

Let's hope it's a special day for the 43-year-old. Some achievement!

Guehi starts for Palace

Crystal Palace get underway against Norwich in just under an hour, and there's one name on the team sheet that will please Eagles fans.

Marc Guehi, who is strongly linked with a move to Newcastle ahead of this week's deadline, will captain Palace at Selhurst Park tonight, with Eberechi Eze and Dean Henderson also involved in a strong XI.

Volavola finally signs 1-year contract with Leicester Tigers

Former Fiji Water Flying Fijians flyhalf Ben Volavola has finally signed a 1-year contract with Leicester Tigers for the 2024/2025 Gallagher Premiership.

The 33-year-old brings significant experience to the club and will no doubt add depth to the side’s backline, especially in the flyhalf’s position.

Volavola says he has been waiting for the right opportunity and after speaking to Leicester’s coach Michael Cheika, he jumped on the chance to join the club.

He says he is excited to see what he and the team can do this season.

He adds he is honoured and excited to join the club, and the talented players that the club has.

Volavola has accumulated over 200 professional rugby appearances including 38 Test caps for Fiji which also included two Rugby World Cups.

Before joining Leicester, Volavola spent the last seven seasons playing in France and his tenure in the Top 14 and Pro D2 saw him feature for clubs such as Racing 92, Perpignan and most recently Agen.

Leicester Tigers Head Coach Michael Cheika says they are very pleased to be able to add a player of Volavola’s experience and quality to the squad.

He says Volavola’s knowledge of northern-hemisphere rugby from his time in France is a plus, and his experience at the international level is invaluable.

Cheika adds he knows Volavola is a man of good character and will add value to their environment.

Leicester secured a safe passage through to the third round of the Carabao Cup with a dominant 4-0 victory over Tranmere at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester made eight changes from their defeat to Fulham at the weekend and took a while to get in their stride but it was Jordan Ayew - on his first start - that gave the Foxes a narrow half-time advantage.

An imperious-looking Leicester pulled no punches in the second period and their Premier League quality showed as Stephy Mavididi made it two from the penalty spot before Wilfred Ndidi and Harry Winks each struck to hand Steve Cooper his first competitive win in charge.

A minute's applause rang round the ground ahead of kick-off to pay tribute to former Foxes boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, who died on Monday.
