A great idea for a special evening in New York is a dinner cruise provided by Hudson’s by World Yacht. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, spending a night out with your best friend, or just for fun, a New York dinner cruise is highly recommended.

There are many suppliers and we’ve tried most of them. Hudson’s by World Yacht dinner cruise is one of our favorites alongside the  Bateaux Dinner Cruise .

UPDATE 2022: The Hudson’s by World Yacht: Dinner Cruise isn’t available anymore. We highly recommend this dinner cruise instead 👇

Dinner Cruise on a Yacht

We started out at Pier 81 in Midtown on a Sunday evening. It was a mixed crowd, but it mostly consisted of couples and smaller groups of girls. The yacht has three levels where you can relax. In good weather, the outdoor portion of the yacht is equipped with a bar and can be a lot of fun. If you want some music, the DJ plays on the lower level. Our evening was relatively quiet and there was no real party mood, which did not bother us. However, we have been told that on Saturday or Friday evenings, it can be more festive.

The Dinner Cruise starts at 6 PM. During this time, champagne is served and you have the opportunity to order more drinks at the bar. Our server was very courteous as he explained a lot about the four-course menu. From 7 PM the ship sets towards the direction of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. During the duration of the trip, you can be both inside and outside.

The boat arrives in front of Miss Liberty and stays for about 15 minutes. There is enough time to take pictures and enjoy the view.

Our Dinner on the Yacht

The four-course menu was impeccable and really delicious. First, you get a menu from which you can choose your dishes. There was something for everyone. The vegetarians will find something here as well. All in all, it’s a great overall package. With the ticket booking, you have the option to book an “all-inclusive” package. This includes a guaranteed window seat, as well as an open bar which means you’ll be able to drink as much as you like.

Who Should Book this Dinner Cruise

This tour is particularly suitable for couples, friends and a special occasion. Make sure you are dressed to impress. It’s perfect for guests who want to spend three special hours on the Hudson River. However, we would definitely not recommend this tour with children.

The 8 best dinner cruises in NYC for spectacular views of the Big Apple in 2024

The best dinner cruises (with a view) to sail away on in NYC this summer

Shaye Weaver

There can’t be many better ways to enjoy dinner with a view than to hop aboard a dinner cruise in NYC. And you know what? That’s why we’ve rounded up the best of the dinner cruise bunch in New York to make that experience even easier. The city sparkles the brightest in the summer (it’s still here, right?) so it’s time to take advantage of the many floating restaurants that sail up and down our two rivers. Rooftop bars  and  beaches  are musts, but a dinner cruise is something special to do with your loved ones. Even the best restaurants in NYC can’t compare to the experience of eating out on the water, and most of these dinner cruises offer prix-fixe menus or buffet meals on enormous three-level ships, sailing taverns and ritzy yachts. Whichever you choose, the ambience just can’t be beaten. Bon voyage – and bon appetit, too!

Want more like this? Dance across the water with one of the 12 best boat tours in NYC , and then head to one of New York's best boat bars for sips and snacks.

Spend four hours sailing the NYC harbor, gazing out over landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building. In the height of comfort, no less, as the decks are climate controlled. It's worth knowing that Skyline caters for brunch and lunch too.

Where is it? Board at World's Fair Marina. Budget range? A spot aboard this stellar cruise is a little pricier, but who could resist twirling around a rooftop dancefloor? Time Out Tip: Planning on popping the question? Skyline can customize your booking to make it a night to remember.

Travelers Guide to New York City

Airports & entry, planning your nyc trip.

  • Traveling in the Time of COVID

Restaurants & Eating Out

Nightlife & entertainment, getting around, accommodations, attractions, what not to do in nyc, get the most out of your trip to nyc.

Whether you only have a day to visit in New York City or you are in town for a whole week, it is important that you know how to get around, where to go and also what not to do in the City. Use this handy travel guide to get the most out of your NYC experience.

If you are flying into New York City, it can get a little confusing as there are 3 airports that service the city. Both John F. Kennedy airport (JFK) and LaGuardia (LGA) are located in Queens.

This puts you right in the heart of NYC when you arrive. However, JFK primarily receives and sends international flights, unless you are flying through Continental Airlines. If you are flying in from another location within the US, you will most likely fly into LGA.

The Newark International Airport (EWR) is a more modern airport and with less crowds, it can be an easier and less stressful way to reach New York City. Newark isn’t very far from NYC. The benefits of flying into EWR may outweigh being a little farther away when you arrive.

A vacation in New York City requires some forethought and planning. First, you need to know how and when you will get there. However, additional planning for the time you are there can make the trip a lot less stressful.

Many restaurants in the city are very small, and very busy. You don’t want to be stuck waiting in line for several hours just to eat dinner. Make your dinner reservations as far in advance as you can.

You may also want to purchase a CityPass or an Explorer Pass. Instead of paying admission to each of the attractions you plan to visit, you can purchase one of these tourist passes that allow you entry into a set amount of attractions out of the 35 that accept the passes.

It not only saves money that can be spent on other parts of your trip, but it makes getting into these attractions a lot easier.

Traveling in the time of Covid

Like many other destinations worldwide, tours and visitor attractions in NYC have adopted special procedures.

Wearing a mask in mandatory in many locations. You will be expected to supply your own mask and wear it when you enter public buildings.

Keep your distance from other visitors who are not in your family group or bubble. You will be expected to keep your distance inside minibuses and other vehicles and when seated in restaurants.

At the time of writing, NYC welcomes visitors but requires pre-travel testing for Covid-19. You can obtain the most up-to-date information directly from the NYC COVID-19 Citywide Information Portal .

New York City has some of the finest dining you can experience in the US. However, dining in these restaurants can be pretty pricy. Plan on enjoying a couple of meals at a luxury restaurant, such as Gabriel Kreuther where you can enjoy French cuisine, or even the Empire Steakhouse. Here, you can enjoy a great steak as well as great drinks.

Cheaper restaurants or even casual dining will help you save some cash. Enjoy authentic NYC pizza at Famous Amadeus Pizzeria, for example. However, if you are on the move and need to grab something quick, there are always street vendors. You may even be surprised at how good the food is. To get the best taste of NYC, we would recommend taking a guided NYC food tour .

The New York City nightlife keeps both locals and tourists busy well into the night. If beer is your thing, you want to check out the Blind Tiger. Specializing in craft beers with 30 taps available, you’re sure to find a beer you love.

The Angel’s Share may not have a glamorous outdoor appearance, but inside, you will find classy and flashy drinks. As a Japanese cocktail bar in East Village, it has a unique feel. Want to visit someplace famous? The 7B has a grunge feel, also located in East Village, and has been featured in several movies, including the Godfather.

However, if you haven’t planned your NYC nightlife before arriving, you won’t have a problem finding a fun, unique place to enjoy a few drinks or even dancing. Famous for fun, the New York City nightlife has a lot to offer.

The subways in New York City may even be an attraction. There’s nothing quite like speeding through underground tunnels on a train. However, the subways are a very easy, quick, and cheap way to travel throughout the city. The local busses also make getting around easy.

You will have to pre-pay for your rides on both the subway system and the bus routes through the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, or MTA. You can get single-ride passes or even an unlimited ride pass that lasts for the length of your trip.

You will definitely want to keep your subway and bus route map handy so you can figure out your travel ahead of time. Subways have stops every 8 to 10 blocks, approximately but if you take an express ride, the stops are farther apart. If you plan on visiting Staten Island, you will need to take the free ferry to the island.

If you are looking to stay in the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, you want to find a hotel in midtown. The right hotel will give you beautiful views of Time Square and more. However, these hotels are usually a bit more expensive just because of the location.

If you are looking for a luxury stay, the Mandarin Oriental or the famous Park Hyatt are close to attractions. If you want to save some cash and stay in a more affordable hotel, the Skyline Hotel New York or the Travel Inn, located in midtown, work just as well.

If you are traveling to New York City with your family, or even a group, you may want to look into a vacation rental. Several companies can help you find a residence within the city that is being rented out by the owners. They won’t be there, as you are renting the space. You typically have a lot more room, and conveniences such as a kitchen, when you find a vacation rental. It helps that it can save you money as well.

If you are going to enjoy a New York dinner cruise, you most likely want to visit in Summer or Fall. The average temps in NYC during the winter hover just above freezing and aren’t ideal for visiting most attractions in the City. The best time to visit would be from June to September.

You should look up the projected forecast just before you leave so you know what weather is expected. Be sure to pack clothes accordingly, but you may want to throw in a couple of outfits meant for different weather, just to be safe.

The Big Apple is never short on attractions to keep tourists busy from sun up to sun down. The Empire State Building is one of the most popular attractions as you are able to see the New York skyline from the observation deck. The Statue of Liberty is not to be missed. If you find yourself in Central Park, there are plenty of food vendors and even free activities to enjoy. If you want to take in a show, be sure to hit Broadway, and if music is your thing, there’s always the Radio City Music Hall.

Past tourists to New York City have learned from early mistakes and many locals can tell you how to plan for a trip. Most advise that you shouldn’t get out of the car or off the plane without a plan for your trip. Winging it in the big city means you may miss out on seasonal events or even attractions you want to visit but they are closed or busy.

Stopping by attractions when they are the busiest will also have you wasting a lot of time standing in line. Visiting during off-peak hours will allow you to enjoy those attractions with less crowds, also saving time for other tourist attractions.

You shouldn’t plan to visit only those museums that are the most popular. Others, such as the Frick or the Neue Gallery, can be just as exciting and also feature smaller crowds.

When walking on the sidewalks, be sure to walk with traffic and set aside if you need to slow down or stop. You shouldn’t walk more than 2 people wide and keep to the side of the sidewalk that is moving in the direction you are headed. When stepping off a curb to hail a cab, place yourself past any parked cars and wave and those cabs who have their cab light on, signaling it is available.

A lot of tourists stick close to the hotel and avoid many areas that are busy or large. However, you shouldn’t be afraid of getting lost. The streets are mostly laid out in a grid and it is usually very easy to tell which direction you are going or need to go.

Knowing that New York City is one of the biggest tourist areas around the country, locals are usually very willing to tell you where the closest subway entrance is, if you are headed in the right direction, or even how to get back to your hotel if you’ve lost your way. There’s nothing like a visit to the Big Apple, and while you are in town, be sure to take in the best New York dinner cruise.

Pier 15 NYC: Scenic Waterfront Recreation, Dining, Sightseeing

Pier 15 in Lower Manhattan offers unparalleled welcoming vibes, refreshing greenery, and fabulous views. Discover the latest events and attractions here.

César Velasco

Pier 15 is a gorgeous two-story Pier on the East River in Lower Manhattan . Spread over 50,000 square feet , this ambient public space has observation decks on both floors. The alluring greenery and outdoor seating perfectly complement the breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline, Brooklyn Bridge, and cruise vessels. Previously untended, the NYCEDC has beautifully refurbished the East River esplanade for relaxation and recreation. The stylish Watermark restaurant offers indoor/outdoor dining and private event hosting. Its outdoor bar, happy hours, and seasonal promotions are immensely popular.

Background on Pier 15

When the South Street Seaport Museum opened in 1967, it took over all nearby Piers. In 2008, due to maintenance issues, the City of New York took back control of Pier 15. The NYCEDC closed the area and initiated major renovation activities here. In 2011, the Pier reopened to the public. The dilapidated space transformed into a vibrant community hotspot.

The two-tiered Pier has a vast, well-maintained riverfront promenade , maritime pavilion , and elevated walkways. The greenery, ample seating, and modern public facilities make it a popular recreational spot in Manhattan. The music, al-fresco bar, and festive vibe of the Watermark restaurant also make the experience memorable.

Where is Pier 15, and how do you get there?

Pier 15 is on the East River Esplanade at 78 South Street, NYC.

  • The closest subway station is Fulton Street . Take the A, C, J, Z, 2, 3, 4, or 5 trains to the station to get here.
  • The closest bus stop is also at Fulton Street. You can board the M15 or M15 SBS bus.
  • From the subway station and bus stop, it is a pleasant 10-minute walk through the South Street Seaport Area to Pier 15.

Riverfront Sunset View

What can you expect when you visit Pier 15?

Witness the spectacular sunrise and sunset views against the majestic NYC skyline . The refreshing river breeze on the upper Pier level is a delight during hot summer evenings. This open riverfront can get very chilly during winter, so make sure you wear sufficient warm clothing. Watch out for jubilant festivities here during the Holiday Season.

The Pier has a lively aura and attracts many locals and tourists. It can be crowded on weekends and holidays. During peak times, it will be difficult to find a quiet spot, particularly on the upper level, where people gather to enjoy the refreshing river breeze. If you do not like crowded spaces, consider visiting during weekday mornings or early afternoons when the venue is less crowded. Since this is an outdoor venue, remember to check the weather forecast before visiting.

The trendy Watermark restaurant occupies one-fifth of the Pier space. Your Pier 15 experience will be incomplete if you miss the events and promotions hosted here. For instance, the restaurant transforms the Pier into a dreamy pink wonderland during Valentine’s Day. Come Christmas, and it becomes Santa’s wonderland . The customized color themes, décor, visuals, and experiences are fabulous. The restaurant frequently features promotions and discounts. Make sure you visit their website or subscribe to their mailing list to snag some deals before you go.

Late Night Pier Party

What else can you do when you visit Pier 15?

  • Savor the amazing burgers, grilled delicacies, and cocktails at Watermark’s outdoor café-style ambiance. Check out their happy hours , oyster hours, and bottomless brunch. They also provide cocktail passes, birthday packages , group packages, and late-night party packages .
  • Visit the South Street Seaport Museum at a 2-minute walking distance from the Pier. The unique artifact collection here depicts the rise of NYC as an important port city.
  • Pier 15 is a departure point for some of the best dinner cruises in NYC. From live jazz performances to open air-decks, complimentary drinks, and curated menus, the yachts are thronged by nightlife enthusiasts.
  • Explore popular events at Pier 16 and Pier 17 nearby.

When is Pier 15 open?

The lower level is open from 6 a.m. to midnight every day, and the upper level is open from 8 a.m. to dusk every day.

Are there any restrictions on the Pier?

Swimming, diving, and fishing are prohibited from here. Visitors are also barred from bicycling, skateboarding, and rollerblading. Smoking is also prohibited.

Are pets allowed on the Pier?

Pets are not allowed on the upper level of the Pier. On the lower level, dogs should be kept on leash at all times.

Are there public restrooms on Pier 15?

Yes, the public restrooms here are open from 6 am to midnight.

Get your tickets to events near Pier 15

A mesmerizing waterfront oasis in the heart of NYC, Pier 15 is a versatile destination that offers something for everyone. It provides a serene escape from the bustle of Manhattan. You can head here for a leisurely evening stroll, a fun picnic with your kids, or just sit and enjoy the breeze with a cocktail.

The lively atmosphere is ideal for socializing . Watermark offers the finest food, beverages, music, and themed events for a holistic experience.

Apart from being a hangout spot, the upper Pier level is also an excellent place for avid photographers . You can click stunning pictures of the skyline, river, bridge, and yachts. In many ways, this bi-level recreational space on the East River offers the quintessential New York experience .

It encapsulates the city’s impressive maritime history, natural beauty, urban vibe, modern amenities, and festive spirit.
