1. You’re just not a “tour” person

I hear this all the time. There are lots of types of Italy tours: large bus tours, small bus tours, private tours, small group tours with no bus… the list goes on. At Italy Beyond the Obvious, we create your Italy custom vacation, starting from scratch. There are no templates. You can decide what you’d like to do, and what you’d like to skip, and we’ll make it happen.

Sometimes, that’s Rome, Florence, and Venice. Other times, it’s an off the beaten track itinerary. You may know where you want to go, but not how long to spend in each place, or the best way to get from A to B. The winery and food tours were unbelievable. We received special treatment at one of your recommended restaurants in Venice, Ristorante Antico Pignolo. Not only was the food great, but the hospitality was also over the top. The manager Juri took us on a tour of the restaurant and gave us his phone number and asked if we needed anything during our stay in Venice to contact him. The other shout out goes to the The Garden Restaurant in Ravello, what an amazing view for lunch and the food was tremendous. Finally, the restaurant in Siena, Casa Tua was beautiful and staff very gracious and gave us a tour of the wine cellar.

Tipping is generally not expected in Italy. However, if you want to appreciate excellent service, a 5 – 10% tip is appropriate. In touristic locations, some hotels and restaurants may include a compulsory 10 – 15% service charge in the bill.

The best time of the year to tour Italy is spring (March to June) or fall (September to November) when the weather is pleasant and crowds are few. However, some attractions such as the Cinque Terre, Sicily, Amalfi Coast and Liguria will most likely remain closed from the end of October to the beginning of April. Summer (June to September) is the high season in Italy for both local and international travelers. The weather can get really warm in these months.

Amalfi Coast  is a spectacular stretch of colorful fishing villages perched on the cliffs of southern Italy. Known for its glamorous vibe, it has great beaches for swimming, hiking trails, luxurious accommodations and Michelin-rated restaurants. Amalfi is easily accessible from the rest of the country.

As a treasure trove of artistic and historical wonders, Italy offers timeless beauty and cultural richness.
