In the terrain of Mongolia’s rugged mountains, vast fertile steppe, and otherworldly Gobi Desert—you will find a beauty unique to only the wildest places on Earth.

The preservation of these dynamic landscapes may be owed in part to Mongolia being sealed off from the world for most of the 20th century. Yet the greater factor is that roughly a third of the population lives as nomadic herders, moving several times a year among the lush countryside, and they honor the land by respecting and preserving it—as Mongolian’s have done since the days of Chinggis Khan.

Nomadic Journeys’s luxury travel style is called the 360° Mongolia and it is a collection of extraordinary bespoke experiences in Mongolia. For more of a glamping style private tours, our luxury travel options brings you more close to the Mongolian nomads out in the wilderness.

Our approach to travel in Mongolia has always focused on the places where we develop long term partnerships with local communities and conservation initiatives. These favorite destinations have what can only be described as 360° landscapes with unspoiled views in every direction – an immersive experience in another world.

To visit the remote destinations in comfort and style, we have developed a unique travel philosophy utilizing small mobile private camps, comprising of well-appointed traditional Mongolian gers (yurt). We have established several private airstrips allowing direct Cessna flights to and between many of our remote camps.

At our camps you will sleep in a traditional Mongolian ger, simply but stylishly decorated with colorful Mongolian crafts, furnished with beds and full bedding.

You will dine in a separate dining ger, or traditional Mongolian marquee style tent. Compost style toilets, and a safari style shower are also set up in traditional Mongolian tents.

Our camp entourage always includes skilled cooks and a camp host or hostess. On relocation days the entire camp can be dismantled, packed onto our support vehicle, and set up again in the new location.

Living the mongolian way

Great place to stay and experience mongolian way of living, no tv, wifi, phone. Just nature and great company of the staff and livestocks of mongolia. The toilet is a hole in the ground covered by a shed. It is clean, but can be smelly to those used to city life. Not hot water supply, inform the staff that you like to hot water half an hour earlier so that they can boil it over camel dung 🙂

Arrival in ulaanbaatar.

Welcome to Ulaanbaatar , Mongolia! Your private guide and driver will be waiting for you on the arrival hall in the city airport. Your guide will be holding a welcome signage with our company logo with your names. Mongolia Luxury Holiday A brief introduction to the city will be given on your comfortable private drive to the hotel. After check-in, you’ll have the remainder of the day to rest and freshen up. Sightseeing tour in the Nomads’ city

In the morning, at 9am tour guide will pick you up at your hotel. Today, we explore the city, visit Gandan Monastery, Mongolia’s largest functioning Buddhist monastery. Listen to the horns calling lamas and monks to temple, and capture the monks’ daily rituals. While visiting the adjoining Megjid Janraisig Temples, we will see 26-meter-high majestic gilded statue of Migjid Janraisig. Next, visit Sukhbaatar square and Parliament House displayed with Great Khans memorial statue. The square lies at the heart of the city surrounded by theaters, government buildings. Continue to visit National Museum of Mongolia for to get an overview of Mongolia’s history and culture including nomadic life, traditional costumes of ethnic groups, sacred religious relics, and Stone & Bronze Age artifacts. After lunch at “Modern Nomads” restaurant served with national food, we will visit Zanabazar Fine Art Museum. The museum displays collections of world’s and Mongolian famous artists, including many original works of Zanabazar, who was Mongolian religious leader and artist in the 17th century. Afterward, we will go to see “Wonders of Mongolia” folklore show by famous Tumen-Ekh ensemble – is one of the most successful folk-art groups to share traditional Mongolian music with the world, having traveled to over 40 countries. Flight to Gobi Desert – Moltsog sand dunes – Bayanzag (Flaming cliffs)

In early morning, you will be transferred to the city airport for morning flight to Gobi Desert (~1.5 hours). When your flight arrives at Gobi local airport your Gobi tour begins with a warm greeting from our local guide who will accompany you for the next four days. We will drive to camel herder family near the Moltsog Els, which is one of the few regions of the Gobi covered by sand dunes. These magnificent sand dunes are surrounded by hills with willow trees, streams and bushes. Visit in their Ger, explore their unique nomadic lifestyle. The sand dunes are the perfect place for camel riding. We will discover this magnificent place on camel back. Mongolia is home to 2/3 of the two-humped Bactrian camels in the world. It is a gentle, calm and extraordinary patient animal. Two humps support you from both sides and easy pace will comfort you so much. After lunch at “Mongol Gobi” Ger camp, we will visit the flaming, red cliffs at Bayanzag – is a famous for the first discovery of dinosaur eggs, bones and complete dinosaur skeletons which is first discovered by Roy Chapman Andrews, American expedition in the 1920. Also, this area well known for red tall rocks formed as a result of wind and water erosion which look like fire in the middle of the desert from distance, especially in the evening sunshine. As scientists defined it was an inland sea bottom some 200 million years ago. Afterwards, we will drive to Three Camel Lodge – awarded the prestige of being one of the top 50 eco-lodges in the world. Relaxing in Gobi and explore Petroglyph of Havtsgait Rock

Today we will continue to explore Gobi and excursion to Havtsgait Valley, site of ancient rock drawings left by early Gobi settlers for more than 15,000 years ago. Hundreds of petroglyphs adorn rocks scattered on the top of the mountain and you will be rewarded with this amazing view after your hike up to the hill. These ancient and beautiful works of art can be clearly seen as the sun hits the rocks from a certain angle. The scenes depicted in these petroglyphs shed light on the everyday lives of the people who lived in the Gobi thousands of years ago. Return to the lodge for lunch. Yol valley in Three Beauties of Gobi Mt. National Park

After relaxing breakfast, at 10.30am drive to Gobi Nomad Lodge and check-in at the lodge and lunch. Explore around the lodge. In the afternoon, take a short drive to explore Yol valley (Eagle or Vulture valley) situated in “Three beauties of Gobi” Mt. National Park. This valley is originally established to conserve birdlife in the region. But it’s now more famous for its dramatic scenery in the middle of the Gobi Desert with a meter’s thick ice almost all year around, except late summer. There we will do hiking through grassy meadows, small streams, long and narrow valley with sheltered by high cliff walls, sunlight bouncing off amazing rocks, covered with wild flowers and Gobi plants. You may be lucky enough to spot wild sheep and goat, grazing high on the cliff walls. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Accommodation : Gobi Nomad Lodge (Ensuite Ger). Meals : B, L, D.

Fly back to Ulaanbaatar – Terelj National Park

In the early morning, transfer to the local airport and fly back to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival at the city airport, we will take 2.5 hrs drive to Terelj Lodge in Terelj National Park. The national Park is one of the most visited national parks in Mongolia. You can see the extraordinary formation of rocks and stones; some of them look quite similar to turtles. On the way, stop at Ovoo – rock pile on the pass of high mountain; used in worship of religion. In the afternoon, we will explore the national park and take little drive to see Turtle Rock – interesting rock formation looking like a turtle. Continue to visit Ariyabal meditation temple – surrounded by scenic mountains with massive rock formations and sits at top of the mountain. The distance between the gate and the actual temple is about 1 km and it is only accessible by walking. To get to the top, you would cross the suspension bridge and climb up on 108 stairs, according to Buddhist prayer beads. This small hike is seen as a ritual to cleanse one’s sins. Genghis Khan’s statue complex – 13th Century Theme Park

After breakfast, take a short drive to visit “Genghis Khan Statue Complex” which is currently the biggest (40m high) equestrian statue in the world. There is a recreation area, restaurants, and souvenir shops occupy the base structure. From here, you can ascend to the head of the horse using an elevator. There you have a good panoramic view over the complex area and the scenery beyond. Drive towards to 13th century theme park. This theme park is built and established in real time micro kingdom of the 13th Century to make the real experiences for the tourists during their visit. Within this country, the rule of the law is strong and there is no television, electricity and phones are allowed for the real experience.

• Visit and lunch at King Palace and wear Mongolian traditional costumes – it is the main attraction point of the theme park,
• Visit Shaman camp – you can see customs, ritual of worshiping of several kinds of Shaman clan.
• Visit herder’s camp – witness nomads’ lifestyle, great opportunity to ride a horse and a camel.
• Visit educational camp – opportunity to get know about the unique culture of the literacy,
• Visit craftsmen camp – enjoy seeing the craftsmen artwork such as horse hold utensils, women’s ornaments, jewelry and tools etc.

Bogd Khan Mt. National Park & Manzushir

Today at 8.30am, we will take 2.5 hours’ drive to Manzushir Monastery – located in Bogd Khan Mt. National Park – Quick visit to the monastery – was destroyed by communists in 1937, new temple is built and serves as a museum. – Explore around sightseeing – including large boiling kettle, religious images carved in the rock. After lunch at Ger camp, we will depart for award-winning HS Khaan Resort Hotel, located on vast prairie surroundings and continuous boundless, extremely peaceful grasslands. Mongol Nomadic – Hustai National Park (Wild Horse Park)

After breakfast, at 9am take a little drive to Mongol Nomadic Ger camp for Mongolian nomads show which will be show you real Mongolian nomadic way of living and traditional custom and culture for the past period. The show demonstrates traditional living way of real Mongolian nomads and breeding and using of five kinds of livestock and movement from one place to another using ox, yak, camel and horse carts which are the carts. After lunch time, served by Mongolian food in the camp, we will drive to the Hustai National Park. This area is home to the Mongolian wild horse known as Perzevalski horse (takhi) with unique landscape that features mountain and steppe Upon we arrive to the camp, we will check the Information Center about the national park and wild horse. The takhi and marmots are easy to see around 2-3hrs earlier than sunset, when they come down from mountains for water to stream. Therefore, in early evening, we will take short drive and hiking to see the horses in their natural habitat. Seeing these truly wild horses which numbered in the hundreds of thousands of years ago, will make you feel like you have traveled thousands of years back in time. There is great opportunity to take photo for these endangered horses. If you are lucky, you can see fox, deer, roe deer, eagle, and more animals and birds… Afterwards, return to the resort for overnight. Ulaanbaatar & Half day city tour

Morning is free for you. At 11.30am, return to the city. After lunch at local restaurant in the city, visit Bogd Khan Palace museum – the complex was a residence of 8th Bogd Javzandamba in 19th century, the head of Mongolian religion. The palace consists of seven Summer Prayer temples and the winter palace. Next, visit we will visit Zaisan Memorial Hill is located in the south side of Ulaanbaatar City, right beside the Bogd Khan Mountain having a best view of the city and surrounding hills. If you would like go to shopping for souvenir or local products, your guide will be ready to serve for that. After dinner, transferred to the hotel. Tourist Attractions

Flaming cliffs known as Flaming Cliffs is located 20 kilometers far from Bulgan soum, where 70 million years ago a lot of Paleontological findings have been discovered. The place is known as Flaming Cliffs so named by Roy Chapman Andrews American explorer who had visited Mongolia in 1922. During two years he searched through the Mongolian Gobi Desert and he found dinosaur fossils and dinosaur eggs about 10-15 cm from the Bayanzag for the first time ever the world. The name Bayanzag derives from a picturesque forest in the area. Archeologists also claim the area has myriad of unearthed object from the Stone Age.

Khongor sand dune

These sand dunes are located to north of the Baruunsaikhan Mountainss and in the northern part of the Sevrei and Zuulun Mountains, about 200 kilometers west of Dalanzadgad in Sevrei soum. They extended for 180 kilometers. From distance it looks like a fin of huge gold fish. You have chance for camel riding tour is available at the area nearby the sand dunes. The shifting sand blown by the wind or someone makes sound so it is called Singing Sand Dunes. There is beautiful green oasis known as Seruun bulag near the Khongor River.

The valley in the Zuun Saikhan Mountain located 45 kkm from Dalanzadgad, in the center of South Gobi aimag, is called Yolyn Am. Very wide at the entrance, it narrows gradually into a remarkable gorge. The narrow Valley between high rock walls has breathtaking dramatic scenery, and no doubt is one of the most beautiful place in the country. You have a big chance to see wild animals such as ibex and wild sheep of course see the vultures.

Ancient capital of Mongolia Karakorum city was located on the right bank of Orkhon River and on the north-eastern slopes of the Khangai Mountain and founded by Chinggis khan in 1220, was not only the capital of the vast Mongolian Empire but the epicentre of trade along the Silk Road. At that time the inhabitants of city were mostly Merchants craftsmen who came to karakorum from all over the world. Khubilai khan moved to the capital of the Mongolian Empire to China, establishing the Yuan Dynasty, began losing its importance. In 1379 much of the city was badly damaged during an attack by the army of the Min Dynasty. Turtles carved from the stone marked the boundaries of the complex. Nearby, Turkish monuments and rock inscription were erected in 8-9th centuries in memory of outstanding fighter for independence. World famous for its wonderful ancient remains, Karakorum is located 370 km away from Ulaanbaatar with an elevation of 1600 meters above sea level.

Baga gazriin chuluu

This is another granite rock formation in the middle of the dusty plains. In the 19th century, two revered monks lived here in gers – remnant of their rock drawing can be found in the area. The rocks are worshipped by locals who sometimes make pilgrimages here. Naturally, there is legend that Chinggis Khaan stayed at the rocks. Five Kilometers away, the highest peak in the area, Baga Gazriin Uui (1768m), will take about five hours to climb. The mountain also contains a cave with an underground lake. The mineral water spring and trees in the region make it a great spot to camp, and there are plenty of rocky hills, topped by ovoo (sacred pyramid – shaped collections of stone and wood), to explore.

Altai Tavanbogd Natural Park

This stunningly beautiful park stretches south from Tavanbogd Uul and includes the three stunninglakes of Khoton Nuur, Khurgan Nuur and Dayan Nuur. It’s remote area, divided from China by the high wall of snowcapped peaks, and known to local Kazakhs as the Syrgali region. All three lakes are the source of the Khovd Gol, which eventually flows into Khar Us Nuur in Khovd aimag. It’s possible to make rafting trips down river from Dayan Nuur, though no agencies offer this at present. There are many archeological sites in the region. As the main road through the region swings towards the southern shore of Khurgan Nuur you can see a stupa-like construction and several burial sites. Nearby are balbal (Turkic stone statue) and the remains of a processional pathway. Further along the road is a wooden Khazakh mosque, with a ger-shaped roof. Further north-west, along the south-western shore of Khoton Nuur, the road deteriorates and there are several rivers ro cross as they flow into the lake. North-west of Khoton Nuur the mountain close in the there’s some fine trekking possibilities.

Tavanbogd (Five Saint) mountain rises 4374m above the borders of three nations, and for this reasons it is also known as Nairamdal (Friendship) Peak. If you it on the summit, you can simultaneously be in Mongolia, China and Russia. Tavanbogd is one of Mongolia’s most spectacular peaks, of interest to professional climbers, and the only one in Bayan Ulgii to be permanently covered with large glaciers (including the 19 km long Potanii Glacier, the longest in Mongolia). It’s fairly dangerous, and to climb it you need to be with an experienced group properly equipped with ice axes, crampons and ropes. Don’t even consider attempting it solo. The best time to climb us July, August and September, after the worst of the summer rains. The massif is made up to five peaks (the five saints)- khuiten, Naran, Olgii, Buraed and Nairamdal – the highest of which is Khuiten (meaning ‘cold’) at 4374m.

Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur

Khorgo volcano – a dead volcano (2240m high) covered with basalt is easy to climb. Inetersting bubbles of solidified lava named “Basalt ger” containing sometimes ancient rock paintings. From the crater you have a good view to Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur which is rich of fish and different birds are breeding here. As the lake is 2060 above sea level, it is frozen until June.

On the road between Ulaanbaatar and Tsetserleg, near the border with Bulgan aimag, the lake Ugii Nuur is a wonderful place for birdlife – cranes and ducks, to name just few species, migrate to the area around late April. The lake is also renowned for its fishing (and the bugs by the lake shore!). The lake and Khar balgas ruins can only be reached from the direct road linking Tsetserleg with Ulaanbaatar.

Erdene zuu monastery was built by Avtai Sain Khan on the ruin of the Mongolian capital Karakorum in 1586. It was the first great Buddhist Monastery of Mongolia. It is part of the World Heritage Site entitled Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape. Stones from the ruins of Karakorum were used in construction. It is surrounded by a wall featuring 108 stupas, 108 being a sacred number in Buddhism, and the number of beads in a Buddhist rosary. The monastery was damaged by warfare in the 1680s, but was rebuilt in the 18th century and by 1872 had a full 62 temples inside. The Erdene Zuu Monastery was taken to state protection and became museum in 1944.

Orkhon waterfall

Apart from the springs at Khujirt, the main attraction in the area is the Orkhon waterfall (GPS: N46 47.234’, E 101 57.694’). The waterfall is situated in the historically significant Orkhon Valley, whose river flows an incredible 1120km to the North before it joins the mighty Selenge Gol. Also called Ulaan Tsutgalan, the waterfall was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruption and earthquake about 20.000 years ago the fall is naturally most impressive after heavily rain.

Taikhar Stone

The nondescript town of ikh Tamir is 22km along the main road west of Tsetserleg. The reason to stop here is to inspect the enormous Taikhar Chuluu rock formation. The rock is the subject of many local legends; the most common one is that a great baatar, or hero, crushed a huge serpent here by hurling the rock on top of it. Locals claim there are some ancient Tibetan inscriptions on the rock, though you will be lucky to spot them through 30 years of Mongolian graffiti. There is even an ovoo at the top.

Gurvansaikhan Natural Park

Stretching from the border with Bayan-khongor almost to Dalanzadgad, the 2.7 million hectare Gurvansaikhan Natural Park is the highlight of the aimag, and the overwhelming reason why any toutist comes here, unlike other national parks in the Gobi, the Gurvansaikhan, does contain a few attractions, and its facilities – ger camps and roads are reasonably good. Gurvansaikhan, which means the ‘three beauties’ and refers to its three riders, contains mountains, dinosaur fossils, sand dunes, rock formations and a valley which, incredibly, has ice for most of the year. The park also contains over 200 species of birds, including the Mongolian desert finch, cinereous vulture, desert warbler and houbara bustard. Spring brings further waves of migratory birds. The park also has maybe 600 or more types of plants (a lot of which only bloom after very infrequent heavy rain). The sparse vegetation does manage to support numerous types of animals.

Day 2. Khugnu Khaan Natural Reserve

We will drive to the mountain “Khogno Khan” Nature Reserve. Once you reach the mountain, you will arrive at a nomadic family yurt in front of this beautiful forested rocky mountains. A mountain is a place of hundreds of birds, deer and gazelle. After we will go hiking around the area or to the small dunes nearby called “Elsen Tasarkhai”.

Day 3. Erdenezuu and the Kharakhorum

09:00 We will drive to the Kharkhorin ancient capital and Erdenezuu temple. The Kharakhorum was established in 1220 and was the capital city of the Great Mongolian Empire. Chinggis Khaan and his descendant Khaan Ugudei, Guyug, and Munkh lived here ruling the empire. Soldiers of the Chinese Ming Dynasty destroyed the town in the 14th Century. The ruins of Karakorum have been protected since 1961 and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. Once we reach there, we will visit the “Erdenezuu” monastery to discover tombs, a temple, and a real Buddhist temple. After that, we will visit the Wall of the Mongolian Empire to learn information.

Day 4. Terelj National Park

09:00 We will drive to Terelj national park. This is one of the Mongolian tourists attract, Terelj National Park is a picturesque place of high granite cliffs that were eroded by the earth forces creating a magnificent landscape of granite tors as if sculpted by some giant sculptor. Terelj is only 65-70 km east of Ulaanbaatar. Let’s explore the extraordinary formation of rocks and stones; some of them look quite similar to giant turtles and after that visit one of a small Buddhist temple in Terelj national park.

14:00 Next, we will continue to the Chinggis Khan Statue complex is located in “Tsonjin Boldog,” a historical place where Chinggis Khaan found his golden whip. The statue created as a memorial to the Man of the Millennium “Chinggis Khaan.” The 40-meter high stainless steel statue of Chinggis Khaan on horseback is the largest of its kind in the world.

17:30 Arrive at Tumen Ekh National Song and Dance Ensemble to see traditional Mongolian cultural performance which is one of the most beautiful, non-touristic things in Ulaanbaatar. Between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM, spend an hour watching awe-inspiring colourful plays of traditional songs, dances, music, throat singing, contortion and much more.

We booked View Mongolia for a 5 day tour of the Steppes on horseback. The company is great to work with and very accommodating. When the posted itineraries didn't work for our schedule, they were happy to customize one just for us. We also thought that the price was very reasonable for a private guide, driver, wrangler, and all meals and accommodations. As an avid equestrian, I was a little concerned with what the quality/health of the horses would be, and I was quite happy to see that they were well-cared for and very healthy and sound. I would definitely use this company again.
