JULY TALK – Remember Never Before Tour With Special Guests Crown Lands and Nyssa – April 1

Event details:.

General Admission – All Ages

Date: Saturday, April 1

Doors: 5:30 PM | Show Time: 7:00 PM

Event Cost: Tickets from $39.50 (Plus applicable fees)

About This Performance

July Talk expands upon the announcement of their new album, Remember Never Before , with details of a 2023 headline tour, with special guests Crown Lands and Nyssa.

With album four, July Talk continues its relentless project to know itself, a fundamental baseline from which to access raw ecstasy and agony. With Remember Never Before , the most potently yet inventively “July Talk” album yet, the band returns – changed – to where they began. Hurl yourself into the moment: this is the ethos of Remember Never Before .

The basic structural facts of rock band July Talk are this: two front people, Leah Fay Goldstein and Peter Dreimanis, surrounded by whiplashing guitarists Ian Docherty and Josh Warburton, and double drummers Danny Miles and Dani Nash. For this compulsively DIY, rigorously self-realizing group, the essence of July Talk has always been the tension between precision and chaos.

What goes on between these bodies, in that kinetic, staticky, sticky space, is where the truth of July Talk takes shape. On stage, July Talk unfurls and explodes. The action pings from slo-motion commotion to back-bendy communion, fluid (as in bodily) and liquid (as in the dark goo phase of metamorphosis). Things get weird, occasionally grotesque, always enthralling. Even in the stark orderliness of black and white, July Talk has always been a work in progress. More accurately, it’s a work of progress, a communal pursuit of limitlessness as a mode of being. For a decade, July Talk has continued in its relentless project to know itself, a fundamental baseline from which to access raw ecstasy and agony. With Remember Never Before, the most potently yet inventively “July Talk” album yet, the band returns – changed – to where they began.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse

"We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break," reads a statement. All dates in July are listed by Ticketmaster as cancelled, including in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary and at Ottawa Bluesfest.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse press pause on their Love Earth trek, following illness among the touring party.

The show will stop for the foreseeable future to allow bandmates to recover from illness, explains a post on Young’s official website , the Neil Young Archives

The Love Earth Tour , their first trek together in a decade , “has been a great experience for us so far,” the message reads. “Great audiences and music. we have had a blast. Though, when a “couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop,” the message continues. “We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break.”

All dates across this U.S. and Canada this July are now listed by Ticketmaster as canceled. That includes dates at Ottawa Bluesfest, in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and more.

“We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again,” the rockers’ statement continues. “We know many of you made travel plans and we apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and patience. Health is # 1. We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you…. and for for us.”

The message is signed by Young, Micah Nelson, Ralph Molina and Billy Talbot.

Billboard’s Joe Lynch caught a recent show at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, the first of two dates. “Musically,” writes Lynch, “Young and Horse were as simpatico and incendiary as ever, stretching out on auditory odysseys like ‘Cortez the Killer’ and ‘Powderfinger,’ chugging through the blunt thump of ‘Cinnamon Girl’ and feeding off each other during the oil industry takedown ‘Vampire Blues.'”

The Canadian rock icon, 78, and his longtime band gave fans a reminder of their live prowess with Fu##in’ Up , a live album which dropped in April, and captured recordings made in 1990.

A Canadian band that deserves an American audience, July Talk remember never before in Vancouver

Concert review—July Talk at the Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver, March 29

  • by Shawn Conner

July Talk played the first to two shows at the Commodore on Wednesday night.

Now 11 years into its career, the Toronto act is plateauing. The new album, Remember Never Before , can be seen as a response to the pandemic in more ways than one. Besides the various life changes that it caused, Covid-19 also stalled a lot of careers.

July Talk has the songs, the sound, and the glamour—led by the two-person front team of Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay —to be much bigger than they are. They definitely deserve an American audience.

One would think that talk-show talent-bookers would have discovered these guys by now. With the heat generated by Dreimanis and Fay alone, the group is last-five-minutes catnip for the Kimmel or Colbert shows.

During Wednesday night’s show, I couldn’t help wondering what it would be like to walk into a small club in a city like Seattle and Minneapolis with low to no expectations and seeing July Talk rip it up. That would be an unforgettable experience.

July Talk and Remember Never Before

The current tour relies as much on synths as guitars. At times, if I closed my eyes, I could hear Metric , if Metric had a gravelly-voiced Tom Waits growling along with Emily Haines . There were also nods to glam-rock in a couple of songs.

If the title Remember Never Before wasn’t a tip off, then the between-song references to the pandemic were. It’s an album heavily influenced, at least lyrically, by the upside-down events of the last few years.

There were references to Mother Nature on the set closer “I Am Water.” The band acknowledged working and playing on unceded lands. Walking into the Commodore, one found notices on July Talk letterhead saying that the show was a safe space for everyone and their “beautiful bodies.”

The audience was mostly male and millennial, with a few grey-haired Gen-Xers like myself.

The songs are strong, and like a lot of July Talk material sounds as though it was made to be played live. On Wednesday night the band gave us a big rock show with plenty of hooks, but I wanted more.

Perhaps my expectations were too high.

Crown Lands open

Opening band Crown Lands is a two-piece from Ontario that is no stranger to Rush.

Most of their songs sounded as though they had begun as jams based on intros to “The Spirit of Radio” and the like.

On its own, the group’s throwback sound is decidedly niche. As an opener for July Talk, the juxtaposition of musical styles was inspired, whatever your feelings about ’70s/80s Canadian prog-rock.

If you haven't heard July Talk's EP yet, you should first chastise yourself for being a slacker, and then find it on whatever digital platform you prefer and listen to it repeatedly. They're currently on tour, so I suggest you find a show and witness the brilliance for yourself.

The first thing you're likely to notice is vocalist Peter's powerful voice. Deep and gruff, his voice is reminiscent of Tom Waits but unique in it's own right. You won't quite believe that voice is coming from him when you lay eyes on him for the first time. In perfect contrast and balance, vocalist Leah's voice is sweet and angelic, but don't be fooled, that girl is a firecracker.

This show was high energy from start to finish. it's the kind of show that requires you to move your feet and shake your ass. Leah and Peter are completely engaged with the crowd and you can tell they really want you to feel the music. The on stage chemistry of these two is contagious and will have you wanting to make out with the person standing next to you. The other three band members are a treat as well, lead guitarist Ian, bassist Josh, and dreamboat drummer Danny (swoon) are there to rock your face off and you will not be disappointed in their sound. After the show, they're likely to join the crowd and hang out for a bit. Not one of them is too good to stop and chat, ask your name, and shake your hand. This has endeared July Talk in my heart forever, and I'm going to see them every time they're in town. That full length album can't come soon enough either, but they have assured me it's on the way. Every July Talk performance is a transcendent rock and roll experience. Leah Fay and Peter Dreimanis have constructed a dramatic, subtly erotic, completely over-the-top yet seductively believable relationship on stage that has every audience member hopelessly hooked on every movement and glance. Every minute of the performance, whether at the climax of their biggest singles or during the break between songs, is filled with tension and expectation. The band's last show in Winnipeg (July 2014) saw Peter swagger onto the stage swigging from a bottle of Jamieson, followed by Leah sauntering on while eating a banana. She feeds Peter a banana before throwing the rest into the crowd. Later on, Leah crouches over a security guard's shoulders and pours Jamieson into his mouth while Peter prances spastically around the stage like some kind of manic zombie. The entire show is raunchy, sexy, aggressive and spontaneous, yet somehow calculated and beautifully executed. I've seen hundreds of musicians perform at venues large and small, but I've never seen such a dramatic, engaging and deeply satisfying performance of any kind. A July Talk performance is a wild ride, and may just change your expectations of a rock and roll show forever.

Best gig this year. How July Talk are not playing to bigger venues is a mystery. The venue was new to me, basic in design, low on grandure but perfectly formed even air conditioned. Sold out but not rammed. As for July Talk the lead duo dominate the stage. He with a voice far bigger than his frame could ever hint at. Her with a charisma that forces you to fall in love in an instant. Together they are electric. Potassium burning chemistry that fizzes, ignites and excites. The set sparked with the opening Summer Dress and bounced its way through the old and the new songs from Touch. It took a while for the crowd to really get going but July's magnetism was irresistible and me my fellow gig goers were pushed and pulled into a frenzy of unbridled delirium. Just superb. Can't wait to see them again.

Amazing energy, and a kick in the teeth for anyone expecting just another concert experience.

July Talk's songs are a passionate conversation between two people, very evident from their meaty lyrics and captivating stage presence. They rock hard and are every bit as exciting as you'd imagine them to be. You will be rapt from the moment they walk on stage until long after they've left, such is the gravity of their stage presence. Leah and Pete love interacting with fans, and seem to play their characters all the better with a large and eager supporting cast.

The songs themselves are so energetic and loud, you won't be able to listen passively, and will feel an intimate part of any show. Bonus if it's a smaller venue, which they work so well.

We saw the concert at the P.E.I. Brewery. They are highly energentic and very entertaining. Watching them live was amazing. They bring the crowd into the performance. Would highly recommend them to everyone. Wouldnt think twice, definitly go again!.

Will be watching songkicks for their next closest performance.

Awsome venue. Good sound. Opening band was new to me, but great job all around!

6 stars! 4 thumbs up! All that and a bag of grapes!!!

I love July Talk! Cant express how awsome it is to watch them live!

Where do I begin?

I won't bore you with a long review of the show. You don't need it. And it's not their style, anyway. They're fast, hit hard, and walk away smiling.

All you really need to know is that if you are able to see July Talk, you have to take that opportunity. They are energetic, hard-working, talented, engaging, and friendly (seriously! Great people to meet after a show).

Go see them. Don't wait. Travel if you have to.

What a show at such a beautiful, iconic venue! This was my second time seeing July Talk and they did not disappoint. They sound fantastic live, and their uninhibitedness on stage puts the whole crowd at ease. They are so humble. I really appreciated their inclusiveness of all gender identities and their territorial statement acknowledging the Indigenous lands on which they were performing. Would definitely see a third time!

Awesome show. It was the second time I have seem them and they don't disappoint. High energy and super talented. The venue was small so it was a very personal show. They also signed autographs and took pictures with the guests which shows alot about their character. I'd see them again in a heart beat.

July Talk are an amazing live band. Very interactive, playful and electric on stage to watch and listen. Definitely would see them live again, without a doubt. The chemistry between Peter and Leah is so natural, they were meant to perform together! Overall, really amazing show!

Neil Young cancels Burnaby shows, other Canadian tour dates

Neil young performing under a tent

By Charles Brockman

Posted June 26, 2024 5:14 pm.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse have announced the cancellation of all remaining shows on their ‘Love Earth’ tour until September, including two shows in Burnaby originally set for July.

The 78-year-old singer-songwriter announced Wednesday that the tour is taking a “big unplanned break” after falling ill.

“The Love Earth Tour has been a great experience for us so far,” Young wrote in a post on his website.

“When a couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob [Theatre], we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered.”

The group added it will “try to play some of the dates” when the members are ready to rock again.

Two shows at Burnaby’s Deer Lake Park, set for July 22 and 23, have been cancelled, as well as seven others including venues in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, and Winnipeg.

Ticketmaster claims that an automatic refund will be issued to all ticket holders.

The July 22 concert was sold out. The festival lawn at Deer Lake Park has a reported capacity of 10,000 people.

In the post to his website, Young, and members of Crazy Horse apologized to fans and thanked them for their understanding.

What does freedom mean to you? We want to know!

Juneau Fourth of July fireworks

As Independence Day approaches, people across the country are preparing to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the freedom the founding fathers sought from Great Britain during the Revolutionary War. But what is freedom really? What does it mean to you to have freedom as an individual and as a society? How do you celebrate freedom on July 4th?

We’re discussing that topic on an upcoming episode of Talk of Alaska. Host Lori Townsend and her guests will discuss the various kinds of freedoms, such as freedom of speech, and explore what the concept of freedom means today.

We want to hear your thoughts too. What kinds of freedom are you most grateful for? Are there freedoms you believe all people have a right to that are not currently available to everyone?

If you have thoughts to share, email us at [email protected] . Your responses may be shared online or over the air.

Jelly Roll CMA Fest 2024

Jelly Roll Says He’s Having Trouble Booking International Tour Due to Past Felonies

Trending on billboard.

Jelly Roll, 39, who has earned three No. 1 hits at Canadian radio to date, will visit Canada for the first time to play the benefit for the foundation dedicated to providing indigenous youth support for mental health and addictions, as well as scholarships to pursue careers in health care. Tickets for the show will be available during a presale starting at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday (June 20), with the general onsale beginning at 10 a.m. ET on the country star’s website .

“When the opportunity to bring in Jelly Roll surfaced, we jumped on it,” Ottawa Bluesfest executive and artistic director Mark Monahan said in a statement. “He has an amazing story, and he’s a great performer.”

The visit from the country star is such a big deal that the festival will begin a day earlier to accommodate Jelly, who will perform on the RBC Stage alongside “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” singer Shaboozey. Tickets for the July 9 gig will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Wednesday (June 19) on the Ottawa Bluesfest’s website .

“It’s funny, America has finally agreed to let me leave and give me a passport, but some countries won’t let me come because of my felonies,” Jelly told Jon Bon Jovi in an interview earlier this month. “We’re working on that. I think it’s going to work in my favor.”

On  Howard Stern ‘s SiriusXM show last week after the host asked if Jelly’s past misdeeds are keeping him from using that passport, the singer said, “I actually got off the phone with a lawyer yesterday. We are working … it’s getting good, it’s starting to look promising. It didn’t look good even just six months ago, but it’s starting to look really promising.”

Jelly Roll has been open about his past brushes with the law and his jail time, including  dozens of stints  behind bars on drug charges going back to when he was 14, as well as an  arrest at 16  for aggravated robbery that landed him a year in prison when he was tried as an adult; he faced a potential 20-year sentence in that case, though he served just over a year behind bars and seven years of probation. He’s also talked about the regrets he had about the time in 2008 when, at 23, he was locked up on drug dealing charges while his daughter Bailee was born.

Among the repercussions of his youthful indiscretions were, until recently, an inability to secure a passport and to book shows outside of the U.S. due to legal restrictions on travel by former felons.

Jelly Roll Books First-Ever International Tour Dates Following Past Legal Troubles

The 'Need a Favor' country singer will perform at concerts in Canada this summer.

Jelly Roll

Jelly Roll is ready to take the stage outside of the United States. The “Need a Favor” singer announced his first-ever pair of international shows in Canada.

According to his official website , Jelly Roll, 39, is scheduled to perform on July 8 at the Meridian Center in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada in support of the Heather Winterstein Foundation.

“The Heather Winterstein Foundation and the family of Heather Winterstein are grateful that Jelly Roll is honoring us with his very first Canadian concert on our behalf,” Foundation executive director Jennifer Dockstader said in a statement to Billboard on Tuesday, June 18. “His dedication to raising awareness, sharing his story of healing and supporting substance use disorder treatments are a beacon of hope for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people alike across Turtle Island. His message brings the struggles of our loved ones into the open and helps us celebrate the healing journeys of our relatives in our community, offering opportunities for equity and reconciliation.”

One day later, the singer will perform at Ottawa’s Bluesfest, which includes a stacked lineup of artists including Carly Rae Jepsen , Noah Cyrus , Nickelback and Maroon 5 .

“When the opportunity to bring in Jelly Roll surfaced, we jumped on it,” Ottawa Bluesfest executive and artistic director Mark Monahan told Billboard . “He has an amazing story, and he’s a great performer.”

Jelly Roll

It’s a special milestone for Jelly Roll, who has not booked any concert dates in Canada or overseas due to visa restrictions tied to arrests and convictions earlier in his life. Before his rise to fame, the singer had been to jail nearly 40 times for various drug-related charges.

“It’s funny, America has finally agreed to let me leave and give me a passport, but some countries won’t let me come because of my felonies,” he told Interview Magazine earlier this month. “We’re working on that. I think it’s going to work in my favor.”

Jelly Roll has been open about his past and has inspired millions of fans with his candor and honesty. Once he became a father to 15-year-old daughter Bailee Ann, the Grammy nominee said everything changed for the better.

“I honestly think if I wouldn’t have had a kid, I never would’ve broken that cycle,” he said on the June 12 episode of SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show . “My fear now is [for] the people I love. If I lost all this today and moved back to Antioch, I’d be fine. But if you told me my little girl might not have a friend at her birthday party, I’d cry like a baby before it even happens.”

Neil Young and Crazy Horse Cancel July Tour Dates Due to Illness

Seven Canadian performances have been affected

july talk canadian tour

Photo: Takahiro Kyono

BY Calum Slingerland Published Jun 27, 2024

Neil Young and Crazy Horse have announced the cancellation of July performances on their ongoing North American tour , affecting seven dates set for Canada this month.

On Wednesday evening, Young and his bandmates announced via Neil Young Archives that their Love Earth tour would be taking "a big unplanned break" after illness struck the touring party following a May 22 performance in Detroit.

"When a couple of us got sick after Detroit's [Pine Knob Music Theatre], we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break," the post reads. "We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again! We know many of you made travel plans and we apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

"Health is #1. We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you... and for us."

Canadian dates affected include performances in Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Burnaby. Young and Crazy Horse played a first Canadian show at Toronto's Budweiser Stage on May 20 , and were due to return to the venue on July 8. The band's Ottawa engagement was a headlining slot as part of Ottawa Bluesfest 2024 , which has now been filled by the Offspring.

Young and Crazy Horse previously announced the postponement of May shows in Chicago, Austin and Dallas toward the end of that month, noting that all three will be rescheduled in asking concertgoers to hold on to their tickets.

Ticketmaster also points to the cancellation of July performances in Oregon, Washington and Utah. A September 29 performance at the Hollywood Bowl in California remains unaffected at this time. It's also been reported that late September California dates at the Hollywood Bowl and Ohana Music Festival have also been cancelled.
