Dirty Heads are at it again! Giving us more love than ever on the newly released EP Midnight Control Sessions: Night 2 . Undeniable gold platinum 100% badassery. Since DH’s 2008 highly acclaimed debut release of Any Port in a Storm, the band has continued to devour and dominate the music world with nonstop successful gold albums.

In case you missed it, Dirty Heads rocked the house in 2022 releasing the highly anticipated 8th studio album Midnight Control via Better Noise Music. The album featured 10 all-new tracks, including a take on Joe Walsh’s 1978 hit “Life’s Been Good” and “Heavy Water” feat. Common Kings. Midnight Control debuted in the Top 10 on many charts spanning a variety of genres. On top of that, the group racked up over 40 million streams since 2022, and over 4 million streams a monthly.

The three newly dropped tracks from Midnight Control Sessions: Night 2’ EP are gutsy, gauzy rhymes that will hook you in at the get go.

The EP kicks off with “Rescue Me”; a cool California anthem, rocking that rhyme. It truly has that west coast flavor that has us vibing all the way through. The next track “John Linen” featuring pro surfer and musician Ivuss including performance artist Alex Vince is super catchy, sexy as hell, brave and raw; it’s too damn good. My favorite is “Bright Side”, such a killer performance in conveying their message of positivity and “waving their own flag”. Dirty Heads are fearless and this is exactly what we need now. These guys continue to enthrall the listeners as they delve into their own signature sound and message of love and unity.

2023 is coming in hot for Dirty Heads’, thus far their most dynamic year yet with several new releases on the way and the announcement of their Island Glow Summer Tour featuring Lupe Fiasco, Yelawolf, G. Love & Specials Sauce , Tropidelic, Little Stranger and Bikini Trill , respectively.

Pro-surfer and singer Ivy Miller (known as Ivuss) and performance artist Alex Vince are featured on the previously unreleased track “John Linen.” The first single off of the new EP, “Rescue Me,” is an ode to California and flip of a Red Hot Chili Peppers hook. “Rescue Me” is currently #16 on the alternative radio charts and climbing. In 2008, Dirty Heads released their acclaimed debut album Any Port in a Storm, with a deluxe edition following in 2010. The deluxe version featured the track “Lay Me Down” with special guest Rome Ramirez of Sublime with Rome. The song reached number one on Billboard’s Alternative Songs in May 2010, and nine weeks later it established a record as the song with the longest stint atop the chart for an independently released title.

They followed up two years later with Cabin by the Sea and later recorded an acoustic version of the title track. This, in turn, led to an entire acoustic album in 2013 called Home: Phantoms of Summer. Dirty Heads’ next album, Sound of Change, would prove to be a breakthrough for the now-veteran band, debuting at number eight on the Billboard Top 200 while topping the Independent and Alternative Albums charts upon its May 2014 release. Building on their renewed success, Dirty Heads enlisted a bevy of industry hitmakers to work on their self-titled 2016 follow-up, which — thanks to its mainstream appeal — again charted high on the Billboard Top 200. The following year saw the band drop its sixth studio album, Swim Team, featuring the singles “Vacation,” in its original form, and “Staloney.” Inspired by current events and the fan interpretations of their music in the #VacationTransition challenge, the band went into the studio to work on new music. In 2021 Dirty Heads released The Best Of compilation, which included a new collaboration with Travis Barker and Aimee Interrupter of The Interrupters. I grew up in the 90’s as a skater who loved music. bands like sublime, 311, and no doubt were in heavy rotation in my cd collection. however, at the time, i didn’t realize they belonged to a specific scene—if there even was one then..

All that changed in 2012 when I was introduced to Dirty Heads . This moment not only introduced me to a new genre but also made them my favorite band and would change my life forever. I always loved hip hop, at appreciated reggae, the combination of both in Dirty Heads’ music was a game changer. It ultimately led me to become “The Reggae Plug”, and the reason I’m even writing this specific article for the exact media outlet that helped me dive deeper into their music back then.

This list is subjective, and your rankings might differ—that’s the beauty of music. So, let’s dive into it.

Honorable Mention: “Dirty Demos” – While not officially part of the list, it would be a shame not to mention this as their introduction to the world. YouTube it if you’re unfamiliar. 

1. Any Port in a Storm This album is a masterpiece! From the first DJ scratch of “Neighborhood” to Duddy’s echoing acoustic guitar ending “I Got No Time”, there’s not a single skip on this 23-track album. “Port” declares their intent to be the fucking GOATs, and if you disagree, “you can speak into the microphone, it’s right above” — well you know the rest.

To sum it up, Dirty Heads are amazing. Ranking their albums is no easy task, and by the time this article is published, my views may have shifted. I love Dirty Heads and am forever grateful for the impact their music has had on my life
