Free Time for French Food and Blois Town

The next stop is the town of Blois – , home of the Château de Blois., one of most prestigious Renaissance monuments in France. where you’ll have two hours to enjoy some free time. With gorgeous gothic scenery that looks delightful whatever the weather, you’ll enjoy two hours two strolling stroll through the streets or sitting sit down for some delicious French food. Just in case two isn’t enough to satisfy your fairytale dreams, here you can visit the Royal castle of Blois on your own, notable for its unique mix of Medieval, Gothic, Renaissance and Classical architecture. This Royal castle once was the home of kings Louis XII and François I and presents a tragic history, as the place where Joan of Arc went to be blessed by the Archbishop of Reims before departing with her army to drive the English from Orléans.

Last but not least, we’ll head to the Château de Chenonceau for wine tasting - discover a wide range of white and red wines, and even a sweet dessert wine, with tasting notes from a real expert. Following this, enjoy the chance to tour the so-called “Ladies’ Château,” Château de Chenonceau. This elegant 16th-century castle makes a lasting impression. The detailed, painted wooden door and smooth stone exterior are breathtaking. Inside, you'll be able to admire original stone carvings, large tapestries, and beautiful period features and visit the chapel and bedrooms, furnished as in times gone by. Take some time to go downstairs and see the magnificent vaultedmagnificent, vaulted kitchens, including a pantry, a butcher’s room and the staff dining room.

There is even a landing platform for the servants to bring supplies up the river. Admire the huge oven, copper pans and cooking implements, it’s easy to imagine these kitchens bustling with activity so many centuries ago! Enjoy the gardens of both Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici, as well as the wonderful fruit and vegetable garden, planted to feed those living in the chateau. Wine Tours from Paris

Just an hour and a half away is Reims , which is the elegant capital of the Champagne region , and just slightly south of that is the little commune of Epernay with its high-end eponymous wine label. If you stay in Reims, be sure to visit Cathédrale Notre-Dame, the 17th Century Palais du Tau or the UNESCO Basilique Saint-Remi. In this region, you’ll get to taste the finest sparkling wine right from its source.

Two hours south of Paris, we can also take our guests to the wonderful Loire Valley , the land of charming châteaux and rolling vineyards. In the Loire, you’ll get to experience incredible Sauvignon Blanc in the upper sections as well as Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc wines.

Further down on our journey south, we can take you to beautiful Bordeaux , where Michelin-star dining and premium wine go hand in hand. This famous region boasts over 6,000 wine-making châteaux and famous Grands Crus Classés (Great Classified Growths) – and the red varietals are considered to be quintessentially French in flavor. From here, the nearby UNESCO village of Saint Émilion is also worth exploring if you enjoy art and culture.

Other wine tours from Paris include trips to Burgundy , Provence or the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the far south, and the island of Corsica .

When to Visit

The city of Paris is perfect at any time of year. Summer has a definite buzz in the capital, attracting tourists from around the world. This is when wine tours can be busy in the city, but for winery and vineyard visits outside of Paris, you can expect the busy season to extend into autumn.

September and October bring the magical grape harvest, and the weather is wonderfully mild for walking tours. In January and February, vineyards are at their most quiet and atmospheric – this can also be a great time for wine tours as winemakers have more time to spend with their guests.

If you’re interested in First Growth tastings, we advise that you book your trip in advance and even plan seasons ahead to avoid disappointment.

Places to Eat and Drink

More about the Loire Valley tour departing from Paris

Your guide will meet you around 7:30am. The private tour includes a pick up in central Paris. You will travel in an air-conditioned van and have time to relax. After a 2 hours drive, you will arrive to the ancient Roman founded village of Sancerre where you will discover the lovely streets and enjoy the nice view of Sancerre appellation vineyards. You will start with the visit of a local winemaker and experiment white and red tastings. You will visit the cellars, talk to the winemaker and taste their best wines made with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes.

After lunch (not included), you will meet a second local wine producer for visit and tastings. You will as well have a nice walk in the vineyards where your Guide will explain  the characteristics of the region climate and soil. You will continue the visit through the vineyards and stop at a family cheese farm and taste the delicious “Crottin de Chavignol” goat cheese, the famous cheese from the Loire Valley with a last glass of wine. You will head back to central Paris around 7pm.

The tour involves a small easy walk but sometimes the small wineries have no elevator. The van can fit a wheelchair in the back.  . Please look up the weather forecasts before the tour as Burgundy can be hot in the Summer and sometimes rainy, and cold, rainy and windy in the Winter. Cellar temperatures are always around 50F/10C. So Jaket, umbrella, good shoes are recommended.
