About Krabi and the Four Islands

Island hopping in Krabi is super fun. One of the best ways to get involved in this adventure is to book yourself onto a tour of the four nearby islands just off the coast — arguably one of the popular tours in the area.

Named Koh Poda, Chicken Island, Koh Tub, and Koh Mor, these four little land masses are pieces of paradise, boasting pristine beaches, snorkelling spots galore and all the beautiful scenery you’d expect.

We were staying in Railay Beach , one of the most famous beaches in Thailand, but personally we found that the beaches of Four Islands were considerably prettier than Railay Beach.

The sand is whiter, the water is clearer and the surrounding nature is wilder, more untouched. They’re gorgeous islands, just waiting to be discovered!

Discover some of the most popular Krabi 4 Island tours below!

Four Islands Tour Overview

There are lots of companies that offer the chance to embark on the famed Krabi Four Islands tour . Most of these tours offer the same sorts of things, but sometimes in different orders and in slight variations.

All tours usually include pick-up and drop-off from your hotel, lunch, drinks on the boat and snorkelling equipment.

They might visit them in different orders, but on any four islands tour in Krabi, you’ll be guaranteed stops at the following spots in the Krabi Archipelago.

This island, known for its stunning beaches and super clear water, lies just off the coast of Krabi. It’s actually the largest of the four islands and is a super dreamy spot to drop anchor and explore for a while.

The white sand beaches lapped by turquoise seas are the main draw here, but you can’t discount the vibrant coral reef teeming with life just offshore — don’t forget your snorkelling gear!

You won’t get high-end bars or development here, it’s just a rustic place to kick back and enjoy the scenery.

Koh Tub & Koh Mor

The twin islands of Koh Tub (also Koh Tup – or Tup Island and Tub Island in English) and Koh Mor are two tiny slivers of land linked by a sandbar.

Called Talay Waek, this cool sandbar only reveals itself properly at low tide and can actually be walked across by visitors on the four islands tour.

Koh Tub itself is surrounded by typically sparkling waters that brim with tropical fish and colourful corals, attracting tourists from around the world; Koh Mor is equally as stunning, but feels even more remote than its neighbour.

Chicken Island

Chicken Island (Koh Kai in Thai) may seem like a weird name, but it’s actually because this island boasts a cool rock formation shaped like a chicken.

Lying just south of Koh Poda, it is also connected by a sandbar to Koh Mor and Koh Tub, making these three islands almost like one connected landmass.

When the tide is low, you can walk the Y-shaped sandbar between all three. It’s a unique stop-off on the tour for this reason, but also it’s a chance to snap pics of the rock formation (obviously).

Koh Kai also has a few facilities, like toilets and a beach bar or two, so you can grab a snack to eat if you’re feeling peckish.

The Other Side of Chicken Island (and Koh Poda)

On the other side of Chicken Island, opposite to the shore where the sandbar connects, is where you’ll find the eponymous rock formation itself jutting out of the limestone cliffs.

You can also see smaller islets that dot the sea here, like Koh Khom, as well as some colourful marine life offshore.

Likewise, the other side of Koh Poda is a wilder, less crowded portion of the island known for its not-so-hidden but still not very busy Secret Beach.

Some tours will take you to these lesser-visited sides of each island.

Phra Nang Cave Beach

Part of Railay peninsula, right on the southern tip opposite Koh Rang Nok, lies Phra Nang cave beach. This scenic spot is a popular place for the four island tour to end.

It’s not just picturesque: The cave is actually home to a shrine dedicated to the deity Phra Nang, goddess of fertility, which is decorated with stone phalluses of different shapes and sizes.

Since there is now a line of buoys to prevent boats from docking on Phra Nang Cave Beach, I don’t think any of the tours stop at this beach. They just cruise past it to show you the cool rock formations.

The 7 Island Tour  Krabi

As I mentioned earlier, every Krabi four island tour package varies from the next one, but they all go to the same places.

If you want to do something different, there’s actually a seven islands tour , which obviously includes stops at three extra islands, plus a BBQ dinner at sunset, which is pretty cool.

Beyond the classic Koh Poda, Koh Kai, Koh Tub and Koh Mor, the Seven Islands tour also includes stops at Koh Yawasam, Koh Tan Ming and Koe Raeng.

Here you’ll find slightly less people, as most travellers stick to the four islands tour, which will give you the opportunity to enjoy beautiful beaches and snorkelling spots all to yourself.

It’s a great option if you want an all-day activity. The four island boat tours usually only take up half a day, but if you’re ready to spend a whole day at sea, this is the tour for you!

It’s a well organised tour that includes a Thai buffet lunch thrown in for the price. The guides are friendly and knowledgeable, plus you get a good amount of time at each location.

Krabi: Phi Phi Sunrise & 4 Islands by Speedboat with Lunch

The Phi Phi Islands may be quite far away, but you can get there thanks to a tour by a zippy speedboat.

This tour may start early (and it’s a long day), but it begins with a trip to Phi Phi for an incredible sunrise, and then whisks you to the famous four islands — via Maya Bay (famous as the location of The Beach ).

It’s pricier than just doing a four islands tour, but that’s because you’re basically getting two trips in the same tour! A day trip to Phi Phi , and your classic 4 Islands tour in Krabi.

It’s a great option for those who have a tight Thailand itinerary , so that you can see more in less time. It also includes lunch in Phi Phi Don, plus pick-up and drop-off from your Krabi hotel.

Krabi: 4 Islands Day Trip by Speedboat Including Lunch Box

While many of the tours of Krabi’s four islands take place on longtail boats, this tour one speeds things up by allowing you to jump aboard a speedboat.

I included this tour as I wanted to include a speedboat option, but to be entirely honest, I would suggest a long-tail boat tour over a speedboat one.

The four islands aren’t far from Railay Beach, so even with a long-tail boat, it won’t take long to reach them. Plus, you’ll have a more traditional Thai experience.

But if you have your heart set on a speedboat, then this tour is the best choice. You’ll travel in style to the four islands, and it also includes lunch on the beach.

Railay: 4 Islands Sunset & Night Snorkel Boat Tour

This option really adds value to the four island tour.

Beyond the classic four islands, this tour also includes Railay Beach, specifically Ao Nang, with its amazing diving spots to glimpse an array of underwater tropical life.

You’ll get to see a sunset and even do a spot of night snorkelling, to see bioluminescent plankton. An unforgettable experience.

Krabi: Private Long Tail Boat to the 4 Islands

If you want to keep things private, this private long-tail boat is a great option. Since I was travelling to Railay Beach with my family we opted for a private 4 Islands tour, and we couldn’t have made a better choice.

Having a private boat will give you more flexibility, allowing you to change the order of your stops from the classic tour, so as to visit each stop while the crowds are somewhere else.

Plus you’ll be able to spread out on the boat, and not be squished next to strangers. Like all the tours, it includes pick-up and drop-off, lunch and drinks.

Krabi: Private 4 Islands & Sunset Dinner Luxury Speedboat

If a private tour isn’t enough, and you really want to splurge, this is the tour for you. You’ll do all the usual four islands stops, but on a luxury speedboat all to yourself.

Plus, add to it dinner with sunset over the ocean, and you have a magical travel bucket list experience ready. It’s perfect for special occasions or groups of friends who can split the cost.

Our experience doing a 4 islands tour in Krabi

I was in Thailand with my parents and little sister, so we decided to opt for a private tour. It was the best decision we could have made, as it gave us more privacy and flexibility.

We didn’t book it until we arrived in Railay Beach, from one of the many tourist stands located on the main road of Railay Beach.

This was a bit risky, since we were there over New Years, and many of the boats were already booked out. However, since we were there for a week we had quite a lot of flexibility on dates.

If you’re not spending long in Krabi, it might be better if you book your 4 islands tour online beforehand. That way you don’t risk missing out, plus you’ll be able to see reviews from other travellers.

Our four islands tour was super smooth and enjoyable. We were picked up from Railay East Pier, and taken directly to the beautiful four islands.

The crystal clear water of Koh Poda in Krabi, Thailand

We started with a long stop in Koh Poda, at a lovely white sandy beach with crystal clear water, before making our way to a snorkelling stop close to the sandbar of Koh Tub and Koh Mor.

In theory there is an entrance fee to the national park of the islands of Krabi, but our skipper was cheeky and told us that if we just snorkelled in the middle of the sea, without going to shore, we wouldn’t have to pay it.

We then sailed past Chicken Island, admiring the rock formations that give it its name. My favourite stop was actually the beach we visited on Koh Kai, as it had crystal clear water and we had it all to ourselves.

Our final stop was once again Koh Poda (or Poda Island), but on the back side in a little cove with only a couple other boats.

Overall it was a very enjoyable day, and one of the highlights of our Thailand itinerary . If you’re planning a Krabi itinerary, I highly suggest adding a four islands tour to it.

Where to stay for your Krabi Four Islands tour

In my opinion, the best place to stay in Krabi is Railay Beach, and more so if you plan to do the four islands tour. Railay Beach is a super chilled town, with one main street, lots of bars, restaurants and a laid-back vibe.

Plus, most of the tours that set off from Ao Nang or Ao Nam Mao will do a stop in Railay Beach to pick up other travellers, so you get to sleep more and start later if you stay in Railay Beach!

Here are the best places to stay in Railay Beach for every budget.

Budget: Railay Viewpoint Resort   – This budget option is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main road, and it’s a great for those who want spacious rooms and a pool with view for an affordable price.

Click here to book your stay at Railay Viewpoint Resort!

Mid-range: Railay Princess Resort & Spa   – This is where we stayed for a week and really enjoyed it. The property is clean, the rooms spacious, it offers a lovely breakfast buffet, has a great pool with view and is in an easy position close to East Railay Pier and the main street.

Luxury: Rayavadee   – If you want to treat yourself, this is the place to do so! Located in Phra Nang Beach (the only hotel there) this luxury property offers gorgeous private villas nestled in nature.

What to pack for your 4 Island tour in Krabi

For a full breakdown of what you should pack for Thailand, check out my Thailand packing list . Here I just included a few essentials that you will need for your four islands boat trip.

Waterproof jacket – If you visit in rainy season, you’ll be glad to have one of these!

Fast drying towel – There’s a lot of swimming and lounging on beaches involved in these boat tours, so make sure to have one of these! I love these because they dry quickly and they don’t take up much space.

Power bank – You don’t want your phone to die on you just as you’re about to snap a gorgeous photo of the crystal clear water of Koh Poda!

Dry bag – To keep your valuables safe and dry from any rogue water splashes during your boat trip.

Final thoughts on doing a 4 Islands tour Krabi

There you have it, the ultimate guide to doing a Krabi four islands tour! Have you been to Krabi before? How did you find it? Let me know in the comments below!

I’ve been to Thailand four times, and yet this was my first time visiting Krabi. I can confidently say it was one of my favourite places in Thailand, especially Railay Beach and its surroundings.

We spent a week in Railay Beach, and loved its chilled and laid-back atmosphere. Plus, the fact that from here you can go island hopping to gorgeous beaches is a great addition!

On previous trips to Thailand I visited other pristine beaches like Koh Lipe , the Surin Islands , Phi Phi Islands and Similan Islands , but I find that the four islands in Krabi beat them all.

They might not be as famous for scuba diving , but they’re still pretty beautiful, and the fact that they’re so close to shore (30 minutes by long-tail boat compared to the 2-hour speedboat required to get to the Similan Islands), makes them all the more appealing.

I hope you found this guide on the best four island tours in Krabi useful, and that it helps you choose the perfect tour for you! If you have any questions, just let me know in the comments below.

Did I mention the Krabi island hopping tours? There are plenty of those to go around!

We’ll include island tours in the Andaman Sea, the famous Railay Beach, Krabi night market, hikes through the jungle, views over the stunning Krabi province, and more. There is so much to do when you visit Krabi town and the surrounding areas!

Ma Tang Ming Island In Krabi

Day 1 – Hikes and Nightlife

Let’s get the first morning of your Krabi itinerary started with some hiking. You’ll end the day exploring Ao Nang, a vibrant town for nightlife.

What’s a better way to start your trip in a new city than enjoying the panoramic view over the surrounding wilderness after an exhausting hike?

Everyone has their way of fighting the fatigue of flying. In my case, I always prefer hiking, which guarantees a good night’s sleep at the end of the day.

The hike to Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint is not a difficult one, but it does take some time – around 2-3 hours for a return trip.

And the next stop on our Krabi itinerary is on the way back from Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint, so plan for a long day out.

There are plenty of free motorcycle parking lots at the entrance in front of the luxurious resorts. Don’t ride past the gate, if not, you’ll be charged a parking fee for a distance of 5 minutes’ walk.

There is no entrance fee to this hike, but the ranger at the counter will repeatedly remind you to tip them before and after you do the hike.

The Surreal View Of Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint Over The Vast Rainforest In Krabi.

Like other hikes, there are steep and plain parts on the trail. For some steeper parts, they’ve built staircases to make your hike easier.

It’s all dirt trail on the hike, and wearing a sandal is no doubt a bad idea. The dense jungle blocks off any winds that could be cooling you off, so make sure you bring plenty of water to hydrate yourself!

When you’re approaching the peak, there are signboards pointing to a waterfall and a lake. You may want to avoid these as they are not all that attractive.

At the peak, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view at a few hundred meters above sea level. Just make sure you don’t stand on the dangerous cliffs barred off from visitors.

Never risk your life for a photo, just enjoy the view from the vantage point.

If you have the time, stop at Tubkaek Beach , located right just after leaving Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint. This is a very quiet, long beach with amazing views on the limestone hills budding from the sea surface in distance.

The Krabi Shell Cemetery is located 17 kilometres from Krabi town centre, which makes a great detour on your way back from the Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint. That’s if you’re staying in Krabi town.

The road leading to the entrance of Susan Hoi is intercepted at the main road connecting Ao Nang Beach and Krabi Town.

With the shell fossils dating back to 25-40 million years, it’s a great place for those who’re interested. But if you’re not into these things, you’ll probably want to pass on this attraction and head straight back into Krabi town.

The entrance fee to Susan Hoi is 200 Baht per entry.

On your way to the next point, don’t forget to grab some snacks or drinks from the Family Mart or 7-Eleven. They’re spread out across the town like mushrooms, you find them literally everywhere.

Wat Kaew Korawaram is absolutely the most elegant temple in Krabi. Located right inside Krabi town centre, the temple is easily accessible to visitors staying near the pier.

The staircases leading to the temple from the main road are decorated with naga sculptures, giving it a classic Thailand Buddhist temple appearance.

Upon reaching the temple, you’ll notice several dozens of information boards depicting the stories of Buddha – the birth of Buddha, how Buddha achieved enlightenment , and more.

The only downside is that some of the details and explanations are in the Thai language only.

While you’re there, take a moment and appreciate the architecture of the majestic temple. The entrance to Wat Kaew Korawaram is free of charge!

Wat Kaew Korawaram

Now we’re talking about one of the most popular beaches in Thailand – Ao Nang Beach. This well-trodden beach is often the spot to be for sunset views.

And despite the crowds, there’s no reason to miss Ao Nang on your Krabi itinerary.

On your way to Ao Nang Beach, you’ll pass by dozens of vibrant stores before reaching the parking lot.

While the beach is always filled during evening hours, it’s totally possible to find a spot for yourself on the massive stretch of beach.

Head into the bustling streets and alleys of Ao Nang when the sun goes down as this is when the nightlife begins.

Hundreds of restaurants serve cuisines from all around the world on the wide budget range. Need cheap eats? Head over to the night market.

Bars, pubs, and souvenir stores are spread throughout Ao Nang, so you’ll surely enjoy your night there!

Ao Nang Beach!

Day 2 – Island Hopping

After a fun night in Ao Nang, get ready for an epic day. Your second day in your Krabi itinerary will be an unforgettable one.

Today, we’re going island-hopping! You’ll get to see some gorgeous islands, and even pay a visit to the infamous Railay Beach.

Walking along the Krabi pier is a great way to start your day. Facing east, you could catch the sunrise from the mangrove forest on the opposite side.

The famous crab sculptures and several decorations were placed along the pier and every morning, it welcomes dozens of morning runners.

On your way back to your hotel, grab a sandwich from the Family Mart nearby or quickly stop at a cafe or restaurant of your choice in the area.

It’s going to be a busy day so load up on coffee and grab that bite to eat and let’s get started!

The Famous Crab Sculptures In Krabi.

A trip to Krabi wouldn’t be complete without an island-hopping tour. This very coast is surrounded by dozens of breathtaking uninhabited islands, crystal-clear waters and limestone hills.

It’s extremely easy to book a tour in Krabi. The easiest way would be booking with your accommodation manager, who usually has some discounts.

Most tours you will find will either be for 4 islands or 7 islands.

While I was staying in Baan To Guesthouse in Krabi, I went on the 7 Islands Sunset Tour for 900 Baht (discounted from 1,500 Baht).

There are also different tours like the 4 Islands Tour (which is more well-known to visitors), kayaking tours, rainforest discovery tour, and more.

There is honestly not much difference between the 7 Islands and 4 Islands tours.

BONUS –  Booking ahead of time ensures you won’t miss out on the tour, and get the best price too! And just for NOMADasaurus readers, if you use the Klook discount code  “NOMADS10”  on the website when checking out, you’ll get $10 off your first booking!

Both are going to provide you with a full-day tour. The 4 islands tours will allow you to spend more time on each island. But you get to see more on the 7 islands tour.

It’s all up to you whether you want to spend more time racing around between the different islands or relaxing on the beach!

For the 7 Islands Sunset Tour you can expect an itinerary similar to this:

The tuk-tuk will pick you up at 12 pm and bring you to Ao Nam Mao Pier. There, you will register yourself and collect the snorkelling mask.

Snorkeling With The Fish In Chicken Island.

You’ll then be directed onboard the longtail boat to start your day.

Throughout the day you will be visiting Tup Island, Thap Island, Chicken Island, Poda Island, Ma Tang Ming Island, Si Island, Phra Nang Beach, and Railay Beach (which technically isn’t an island).

You will get to walk between Tup Island and Thap Island , which is connected by the shallow beach on foot. You’ll also get to snorkel with the fish near Chicken Island , chill on Poda Island , visit Phra Nang Cave Beach and finally feast on a buffet dinner while watching the sunset in Railay Beach .

Railay Beach is one of Thailand’s most famous. Framed by limestone cliffs and dense jungle, Railay Beach is popular among rock climbers and photographers.

For some tours on your Krabi itinerary, you may also get to go night snorkelling to see the phytoplankton before heading back for the fire show at the pier at around 8 pm.

Sounds cool, right!? Book a 4-Island tour here!

An alternative option is booking a day tour to Koh Phi Phi . Koh Phi Phi is a great day trip, as it includes all the highlights like Viking Cave, Monkey Beach, and Maya Bay.

We would recommend spending a few days in Koh Phi Phi and taking your time seeing Maya Bay and the Koh Phi Phi town center.

But if you’re short on time and you’d rather visit Koh Phi Phi as a day trip from Krabi, you can do that. Any Krabi island hopping trip should include Koh Phi Phi for sure!

The View You Get From Tup Island, Surrounded By Nothing But Pristine Beaches And Crystal-Clear Seawater. Well, And Boats And Other Visitors, Of Course.

After returning back to the Krabi province after a busy day exploring the islands you will find the nightlife is starting to pick up.

Krabi is home to countless bars, swarmed by foreign visitors every night to spend the last few hours of the day. If you’re staying in Ao Nang Beach, then, of course, you should spend the night there.

I never visited all of the bars in Krabi Town, but there’s one particular bar that I highly recommend – Booze Bar . The staff are friendly and they have live music and lovely vibes, all you could ask for in a perfect bar.

READ MORE: Be sure to spend some time visiting Koh Phi Phi after your Krabi itinerary

Day 3 – Caves and the Emerald Pool

Most of the accommodations in Krabi do include breakfast in your stay, but if they don’t, they probably have a café to fill your morning tummy.

Today, we’re gonna rent a motorcycle to have fun around the outskirts of Krabi. If it’s not your thing, it’s pretty easy to get a tuk-tuk in Krabi to get to wherever you want!

You can also save a bunch of time by booking today’s activities as part of an all-inclusive tour ! Perfect if you’d rather not run the risk of riding a motorcycle without insurance or a license when you visit Krabi.

You might want to know that this is way more physically demanding compared to Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint.

I’m not trying to scare you. But trust me, you’ll be thanking yourself after reaching the top, enjoying the magnificent view of the temple sitting upon the ragged limestone hill.

At the base, there are several attractions like an artificial waterfall, cafeteria, and temples.

But the main attraction lies on the top connected by the 1,200-step staircases (Note: due to its physical demand this is not for all travellers.)

Visiting in the morning is a better idea as the weather is usually cooler and the sunlight isn’t as harsh as the scorching tropical sun in the afternoon.

It takes around 20-40 minutes to get to the temple on top.

If you’re worried about dehydration, bring a water bottle with you. But note that there is a water station at the temple on top to refill your bottle.

You’ll have to take off your shoes to visit around the temple, and you could easily spend 30 minutes up there on the view alone.

Also, be extra careful of the aggressive monkeys. Don’t touch them, and don’t go near a mom with babies. And definitely don’t feed them.

Limestone Views Krabi

Over the years, Emerald Pool has become one of the must-visits in Krabi for no other reasons than it’s simply wonderful. Minerals in the water make the colour absolutely spectacular!

Located inside Thung Teao Forest Natural Park , there are several hiking trails surrounding the emerald pool too. But for now, let’s go straight for the pool.

Due to the tourist crowds, it’s wiser to pay this attraction a visit in the morning. So, it’s all up to you if you want to interchange this with Tiger Cave Temple.

With an entrance fee of 200 Baht, you are allowed to soak yourself in the crystal pond for as long as you want. The entrance closes at 4.30 pm.

Next up, Klong Thom Hot Springs is located near Emerald Pool, so I highly recommend you arrange both of these attractions on the same day on your Krabi itinerary.

The hot spring itself is extremely small and difficult to accommodate the number of visitors daily.

So, the authorities have decided to build an artificial pool near the hot spring and drain part of the water there for more people to enjoy.

The artificial pool is located before the authentic hot spring. So, if you’re visiting in the non-peak hours you could possibly enjoy the hot springs surrounded by gigantic tree roots.

It’s advised that you shouldn’t soak yourself in the hot springs for more than 20 minutes at a time.

The entrance fee to Klong Thom Hot Springs is 160 Baht, plus 10 Baht for your motorbike parking.

Chao Fah Night Market is one of the most enjoyable night markets in all of Thailand. Hundreds of tables and chairs are arranged by the pier, fenced by dozens of hawker stalls.

You can go over all the menus of every stall, but you won’t notice much difference other than the design. Choose the one you like, and order whatever you want, and they’ll arrange a seat for you.

There are milkshake stalls there, which I recommend. (Krabi has much better milkshakes compared to Phi Phi Islands and Phuket, honestly.)

The highlights here are, of course, seafood, since Krabi is a coastal town. And they’re surprisingly affordable here too. You can get a big plate of clams for under 200 Baht!

You could also choose to attend the Blue Dragon Cabaret show , which is one of the more popular and most famous attractions in all of Thailand.

There are other Ladyboy shows throughout Thailand but this is worth a watch on the last of your 3 days in Krabi itinerary.

Krabi Thailand City Guide

Now that you have a pretty good idea about what you’re going to do with your 3 days in Krabi itinerary, let’s help you travel to and around Krabi and find the best accommodation and food!

The best time to visit Krabi and the rest of Southern Thailand is generally during the dry season, which spans from November to April.

During these months, Krabi experiences pleasant weather with clear skies, warm temperatures, and lower humidity. Travel guides would recommend these months for exploring the region’s renowned limestone cliffs, pristine beaches, and vibrant marine life.

While the peak tourist season occurs from December to February, offering optimal conditions for various outdoor activities like rock climbing, island hopping, and snorkeling, visitors can still enjoy nice weather in the shoulder months of November and April.

However, you should always check the local weather and be mindful of potential variations in weather patterns, as occasional brief rain showers can occur even during the dry season.

If Krabi is your first destination in Thailand, then there’s good news – there is an international airport in Krabi.

Inside the Krabi Airport, you’ll have to choose between taking the shared van or private transfer to your accommodation.

In my case, I took the shared van, which is surprisingly comfortable with leather seats and a well-air-conditioned interior.

It took around 30 minutes to reach our hostel, and yes, they drop you right at the doorstep. The price? Only 90 Baht!

In some cases where you’re travelling in Phuket first, then consider taking the shared van from the bus terminals to Krabi. There are two bus terminals in Phuket.

It takes 3 hours to reach Krabi by bus. The only downside is that the bus terminal is rather far from most accommodations.

You might need a cab to get to your hotel, or you could walk, which I did! The shared van costs 140 Baht.

What if you’re staying in Ao Nang? Well, it’s pretty similar.

From the airport, catch the shared van to Ao Nang, which costs slightly more at 110 Baht. From Phuket, just tell the receptionist that you’re going to Ao Nang. It’s pretty straightforward as Ao Nang and Krabi are so close.

For travellers, the most popular place to stay would be near the Chao Fah Park Pier. There are plenty of shops, marts, hostels, and hotels – and of course, night markets.

Since there are not that many attractions inside Krabi Town, renting a motorcycle is the easiest way to visit the nearest attractions like the Emerald Pool, Ao Nang, Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint, and more.

Renting a motorcycle when you visit Krabi is almost effortless and is reasonably priced at around 200-250 Baht per day.

This price excludes petrol, which is pretty cheap as well. Chances are, you can rent a motorcycle from your hotel or hostel.

If a motorcycle is not your thing, then your options would be either private cabs, tours or GrabCar.

Tours are pretty common when you visit Krabi due to its popularity among Chinese, Russian and Korean tourists. So booking a tour is trouble-free.

Baan To Guesthouse definitely has one of the most strategic locations for those who visit Krabi. Within a 5-minutes’ walk, you’ll get to Chao Fah Night Market, the pier, and plenty of amazing cafes and restaurants, like 89 Café .

I highly recommend this café, even though it’s a little pricey, the foods are top-notch and will never disappoint you.

They have one of the cheapest prices for double rooms in Krabi, and the on-site restaurant is perfect for breakfast. The host was extremely friendly as well, and we gladly rented her motorcycle for 250 Baht per day.

The rooms were basic, a little bit warm, so I suggest getting an air-conditioned room.

I hope you enjoyed reading this 3 days Krabi itinerary. Krabi Thailand is a wonderland for those who love nightlife. But it’s also perfect for those who enjoy travelling at a slower pace.

In short, Krabi Thailand has something for everyone. Three days in Krabi are enough for most people to take in the essential attractions.

But if you’re opting to stay longer, Krabi is a great spot to sit back and relax!

Krabi Starts Here

It comes as a surprise to some people, but not all places in this Krabi travel guide are beaches. Some of the best ones, in fact, are nowhere near the sea—well, not really. (Although I’ll be honest: The question of how many days in Railay Beach you need will figure heavily into what I’m about to say.)

Which is not to say Krabi’s beaches aren’t amazing. Generally speaking, I find them to be the best of any “mainstream” destination in Southern Thailand, and certainly better than Phuket ‘s.

It’s just that Krabi is so much more than a beautiful beach. Let’s start the discussion of where to go in Krabi on this premise, whether that sees you spend 1 week in Krabi, or simply sketching out an Ao Nang itinerary.

Where to Stay in Krabi

Before I dig deeper into this Krabi travel guide, allow me to recommend a couple of hotels. If you’re on the higher end of travelers, you won’t want to miss Railay Beach’s Rayavadee , which some people consider to be the best hotel in all of Thailand. A more reasonably priced property, meanwhile is Sunrise Tropical Resort , which is also in Railay but is more, shall we say, accessible.

Beyond the best beach hotels in Krabi, there are other places in this province to make your home. I’m not going to recommend any hotels in Koh Phi Phi or Ao Nang, for reasons I’ll explain in just a moment, but I am a fan of the cozy and comfortable Sasi House in Krabi town. This laid-back yet stylish hotel is built inside an old Thai house, and has a charming feel you won’t find at any place where waves lap nearby.

My Favorite Places to Visit in Krabi

Railay beach.

trip krabi 2023

When it comes to the best beach in Krabi (at least those that are easily accessible), Railay Beach takes the cake, no question. As far as actual swimming is concerned, Railay West is where you’ll want to head, while many of my favorite hotels and restaurants are located at Railay East . I also like to include Phra Nang Cave Beach , the Railay Viewpoint and Tonsai Beach , where you can see bioluminescent plankton, within the topic of Railay. When it comes to the question of “how many days in Railay Beach,” my answer is usually “as many as you can possibly spend”!

trip krabi 2023

Among places to visit in Krabi that require a bit more effort, meanwhile, I think that Koh Poda is probably the best beach you’ll find in the province. This is usually visited on a day trip from Railay, during which you visit several other islands (like Koh Gai , or “Chicken Island”), and which also gives you the opportunity to do some snorkeling. TIP: Book a private tour so you can visit Koh Poda early, before the crowds arrive.

Koh Phi Phi

trip krabi 2023

Ferries leave from Railay to Koh Phi Phi often enough that you don’t need to think too much about the time you devote to the Phi Phi Islands, which is for the better. To be sure, while the beautiful of Koh Phi Phi is hard to over-estimate, where at the Phi Phi Viewpoint or at iconic Maya Bay , it’s also difficult to underestimate how obnoxious the crowds can be, even if they’re likely to be lighter in the wake of coronavirus .

Wat Tham Suea Temple

trip krabi 2023

The first destination within this Krabi travel guide that doesn’t involve a beach is Wat Tham Suea , aka the Tiger Temple. Visiting this temple isn’t easy—after getting a taxi, you’ll need to climb up about 1,200 steps, which is a chore even if you’re fit, given how hot it’s likely to be. The view from the top, however, is just stunning, to say nothing of how the breeze hundreds of meters up will cool your sweaty body.

Sa Morakot (The Emerald Pool)

trip krabi 2023

When it comes to day trips from Krabi (assuming you stay in Railay), I like to combine several into one, if I can. To be sure, you can visit the Sa Morakot “Emerald Pool” using the same taxi you book to take you to the Tiger Temple. Additionally, you can add a third attraction—the so-called Hot Springs Waterfall —if you want, but beware. Although this place is cool, figuratively speaking, it is literally scalding!

The Truth About Ao Nang

The good news? Many of the cheap hotels in Krabi (at least the ones on the beach) are in Ao Nang, which is the closest thing to a “main” beach Krabi has. The bad news? Ao Nang’s accessibility (you don’t need to take a boat to get here, as you need to do with Railay) means that anyone and everyone goes here, which gives the area a crowded, claustrophobic feel that just isn’t very pleasant to me.

To be sure, while Ao Nang isn’t near the top of places to visit in Krabi as far as I’m concerned, it isn’t horrible. If you’ve already booked a refundable night (or three!) there by the time you read this, I wouldn’t recommend taking the loss. I just think that when you dive deeper into Krabi, both its beaches and some of its inland treasures, you will see what I mean about Ao Nang, and why it’s not a place I’m rushing to return.

Krabi vs. Phuket

The topic of the best islands in Thailand , more generally, is one I’ve left to another post. What I will say, when simple comparing Krabi and Phuket, is that it’s not really close for me. While Phuket island does have some merits, which include both charming places inland and great beaches, Krabi generally has scenery that is more iconic of Thailand, even if it isn’t as culturally interesting.

This takes into account the fact that some things to do in Krabi (such as excursions to Koh Phi Phi, the Koh Yao islands and James Bond Island) are also accessible from Phuket. Click here to visit Leave Your Daily Hell and read more about my thoughts comparing Phuket vs. Krabi , which I hope will give you insights to make your own decision to this end.

Other FAQ About Travel to Krabi

How many days do you need in krabi.

Krabi province is huge, so I recommend spending at least 3-5 days here. This will afford you a night or two either in Railay or Ao Nang (including the potential for a 4-island day trip), two nights in Koh Phi Phi and at least a full day exploring the attractions of inland Krabi province.

What part of Krabi is best to stay?

Personally, I find that Railay Beach is the “sweet spot” of Krabi. Although it’s not an island, it is only accessible via a (short) boat trip from the mainland, which gives it a castaway feel and a less busy atmosphere than Ao Nang. The scenery is gorgeous, featuring towering limestone karsts and calm, clear waters; islands deeper in the Andaman are either a day trip (Koh Poda, Koh Gai) or a weekend excursion (Phi Phi) away.

How much is the 4 island tour in Krabi?

Depending on how many people you have, whether you choose a private tour and your preference (speed boat or longtail), the 4-island day trip from Krabi starts from 500 Baht per person. As of January 2023, you can hire a private long-tail and driver for a half day for around 3,000 Baht. However, if you’re a solo travel or on a budget, you might want to join a group tour. In either case, any travel agent on the main street between Railay West beach can hook you up, presuming you aren’t afraid to haggle.

The Bottom Line

Should you visit Koh Phi Phi or Railay Beach? The breadth and depth this Krabi travel guide embodies precisely why this is one of my favorite Thailand destinations , even if it is a rather “mainstream” one. There’s simply very few sights in the Kingdom as iconic as the towering limestone karsts of Railay Bay, let alone with dozens of long-tail boats splayed out beneath them. I hope you’ll follow in my footsteps to this paradisiacal part of Thailand. And I hope, if you aren’t able to mold the advice I’ve laid out about Krabi vacations here into an itinerary, you’ll consider hiring me to create one for you .

If you want to visit when there aren’t as many tourists as there are during peak season, then April to June would be the best time. You may encounter more rainy days, but the blissful days of ideal island sunshine are sure to make up for it! It also seems like a small price to pay to have a more private experience.

Finding where to stay in Krabi  has never been easier – there’s heaps of accommodation available! In this Krabi itinerary, we share our top picks for the best neighborhoods.

Ao Nang is Krabi’s tourist mecca, known mostly for owning astounding Andaman sea beachscapes and white-sand shores. This resort town is also the main docking point for boats heading out to the surrounding islands of Krabi, namely – Koh Poda, Ko Hong and Ko Gai (Chicken Island). This area offers beauty and convenience! It’s also a prime spot to catch a famous Krabi island hopping adventure tour!

Where To Stay In Krabi

Railay Beach is a popular spot for rock climbers. It’s entirely surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful cliffs that provide amazing ocean views from the top. The craggy cliffs are not only great for climbers but also allow this part of Krabi to be more private. It’s only accessible via boat, and although you will be sacrificing convenience, you will be gaining seclusion and privacy.

To indulge in Krabi’s diverse culture and history, a stay in Krabi Town is a must. The town is Krabi’s original market town and provides quite a contrast to the lazy surrounding beach towns. There is no better place to truly experience the authenticity of Thai culture and hospitality!

For a more off-the-beaten-track approach, Ton Sai Bay is the place to be! Here, there are no roads or pavement, but rather footpaths and hidden pathways. Be prepared to have your mind blown by the ancient remains of the ocean’s creatures and the now dried up plates of what used to be a swamp.

The Susan Hoi site is found within the Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park and captivates people worldwide who know about its existence. There are said to be only two other places like it in the whole world! The fossils date back to forty million years ago, making this one of the most outstanding places to add onto our three-day itinerary in Krabi.

Susan Hoi, Krabi

Susan Hoi once used to be a thriving large freshwater swamp, hosting an immense amount of creatures and critters within its banks and surrounding vegetation. Once the swamp dried out, the layers of shells that were left behind created huge rock slabs. These rock slabs are now humorously called “shelly limestone,” and they rest on layers of lignite .

The unique beauty of one of the most gorgeous Krabi landmarks is unforgetable and will surely have you thinking about what life on earth could have been like 40 million years ago.

Krabi Night Market

  • The entrance to the market is free!
  • No Krabi trip itinerary would be complete without the famous Krabi night market!
  • This is a must-see place if you are spending the Weekend in Krabi, as it is hosted on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

The world-famous Krabi Night Market is an incredible mass of color, textures, smell, and contagious energy all laid out under an open night sky! The stalls are set for as far as the eye can see and can all be found along Krabi’s Walking Street (Otherwise known in Thai to be Thanon Khon Dern ).

Krabi Night Market, Krabi

The Krabi Nightmarket is by far the most important shopping experiences to have during your Krabi vacation! Over 50 stalls get put up, and you will find everything from street food and clothing to culinary items and home decor. The store holders are friendly and very well organized, so you won’t have to deal with bad service. Just be prepared for the noise, as this is a place that truly showcases the confident and boisterous nature of the Thai people.

You will be surprised by what you may come across, and you are sure to be somewhat charmed by the way that the locals put together this event.

Phra Nang Cave Beach

  • This beautiful beach is found in Ao Nang.
  • You can easily find resorts and hostels nearby that would make for the best place to stay in Krabi.
  • Entrance onto the beach is free!

Soak up the warm sunshine and laze on the white sands of Phra Nang beach! Not only is the beach a blissful paradise, surrounded by swaying palm trees and wild vegetation, but it is also home to a fascinating cave. Enjoy one of the most gorgeous beaches on our Krabi Itinerary!

Phra Nang Cave Beach, Krabi

Whilst on the beach, be sure to enjoy water sports and catch yourself a killer tan, as this beach is one of a kind and has everything you can imagine! The waters are still and smooth, providing a perfect place to simply float on the water, or dive deep, and meet some colorful scally sea creatures.

When planning a trip to Krabi, it is important to make a note of the best beaches, and this is certainly one of them! You can escape into the eerie and yet curious cave of the sea princess in Krabi and witness the way that the locals pray and worship her. There is a shrine where you will find countless incense sticks, photos and spiritual paraphernalia that has all been placed in her honor!

If you’d like to visit Phra Nang Cave Beach by boat, check out this speedboat tour .

  • An incredible island found near Krabi and accessible by ferry.
  • A place that has well preserved the old ways of Krabi, Thailand.
  • Entrance into the village is free!

Embark on a journey and humbly explore the old village of Koh Klang. The village is a mere 26 square-meters, and it is entirely made up of indigenous plant life, rivers, canals, mangrove forests, and peaceful beaches. The inhabitants of this island are natives, and they live in a way that has not been tainted by the west, maintaining their roots and keeping to the ways of the old.

The name Koh Klang means “middle island,” and it has been given this name because it is between two wide estuaries. On the east, you will find the Krabi River, where it will take you a short five-minute ferry ride to get back to Krabi.

Koh Klang, Krabi

Most tourists don’t go to Koh Klang. This is because it is native land and does not offer a lot in the way of mainstream tourism with no major attractions or must-see sites. The only exciting sightseeing wise will be of some amazing rural landscapes. However, it does offer something that other places in Krabi may not- an authentic looking glass into the ways of the ancient Thai natives.

The people of Koh Lang live simply as a way of life, and they enjoy the harmony and simplicity of it all. This is a wonderful way to appreciate other lifestyles, and broaden our understanding of cultures and people.

Mu Ko Lanta National Park

  • The Mu Ko Lanta National Park is a huge part of Krabi’s nature conservation!
  • The park was established in 1990, so it is relatively new.
  • Entrance fee is 200 ($6,26) for adults and 100 ($3,13) for children

Mu Ko Lanta National Park consists of several gorgeous Thai islands! The park boasts rugged hills that roll over the Andaman sea, covered in thriving plant life and providing spellbinding views.

You can venture into the dense rainforests and discover the neverending bliss of Krabi’s vegetation, breathing in air that is thick with life and an earthy scent. You can even find massive mangrove forests, as the Mai Ngam, South Mai Ngam, and Ngu islands are absolutely covered in them!

Mu Ko Lanta National Park, Krabi

Taking a turn for the unusual, you may also come across nomadic sea gypsies called the Chao Le that live in the forests and islands of the national park. They are said to set boats adrift during the full moon of June and November, as it is a tradition of theirs to draw in good luck.

Mainly what you’ll find during your great adventure at Mu Ko Lanta National Park is outstanding and private white sand beaches, jaw-dropping viewpoints, hidden walking trails, and some incredibly impressive ancient caves.

Insider Tip: Like at the National Mosque, dress conservatively to skip the queues for robes.

The province of Krabi is renowned for being a safe place for both extensive and short visits. The locals are incredibly friendly, and most travelers don’t experience any kind of threats or mishap during their stay. With this in mind, we would still love to cover some safety tips in our Krabi itinerary to make sure that everything goes smoothly during your island adventure!

Pickpockets are all over the world, and Krabi is no exception. Be sure to watch your belongings and don’t let strangers get too friendly with you out of the blue. This should not be a major issue, but it is something to remember and stay cautious of.

Of course, behave sensibly when partying and when walking about at night. Keep friends and travel companions close when going places on foot at night, and stay away from suspicious alleyways.

Although crime happens everywhere, the main danger in Krabi doesn’t come from the people, but more from mother nature herself. Beach safety is something to be aware of, as the ocean can become rough during the monsoon season from May to October.

Otherwise, rip tides aren’t lethal but are better to be avoided. Remember to also be careful of mooring boats! Thankfully, Krabi’s marine life species aren’t poisonous, so there are no threats from the creatures of the sea.

Krabi Travel Itinerary for 3-4 Days in 2024 (Updated)

Hello, adventurous people! Here is the perfect Krabi Travel Itinerary if you only have 4 to 3 days in Krabi. I was lucky enough to spend an entire month here and let me tell you, it is one of my very favorite places I have ever been. The vibe here is laid back and not pushy, the food is delicious and the things to do in Krabi are virtually endless!

You can take this list of what to do in Krabi for 3 days with a grain of salt and change it up to meet your interests, but I have put it together with location and fun in mind.

If you are planning to have a beach-filled trip, check out these amazing beach hotels in Krabi . You can also stay a little further outside of town if you are looking for a budget trip.

One of the very best things about visiting Thailand as a whole is how affordable it is . You can plan for your Krabi trip cost to be around as little as $30 (USD) per person per day . On our trip to Krabi, we spent around $40 a day for 2 people. Use this Krabi travel guide and you are sure to stay within budget.

The Ultimate Krabi Travel Itinerary For 3 Days

a man looking out at Ao Nang in Krabi Thailand

Day 1: Krabi Travel Itinerary 3 Days

You can easily tour Krabi on your own with this itinerary, but if you want you could always book private tours in Krabi . There are advantages to touring Krabi alone and with groups. If you want to rent a scooter or car to get around you will have no trouble finding all of these attractions in Krabi.

How to Get Around Krabi Town

Ask your accommodation if they have any hookups on scooters , this is how I have found the best prices and most reliable people. If you are not into riding scooters, I suggest you download the app grab. You can easily call for rides, and food delivery, and it is very affordable.

There are also red trucks and tuk tuk’s that ride up and down the streets, you need cash and be sure to check the price before you hop in.

Stop 1: Take a Long Tail to Railay Beach

One of the very best Krabi Thailand things to do is visit Railay Beach . That is why it is the first thing on the list of Krabi things to do blog. This beautiful peninsula is only accessible by boat and has stunning crystal-clear water and the most picturesque backdrop.

The best way to get to Railay is to head to Ao Nang Beach and find the stand on the very end of the beachfront. You cannot miss it there is usually a big crowd out front. I waited no more than 10 minutes after paying and was on my way to Railay.

Ask for a one-way ticket instead of a round trip. This is because when you do the round trip they give you time to get back on the boat. You want time to relax and take in the views. When you are ready to leave head to the middle of the beach and find the guy selling tickets back.

You will not have to wait long and expect to pay 100 baht per person each way.

Once you are there you can take a rock climbing tour , enjoy swimming in the ocean, or layout in the sand!

Stop 2: Phra Nang Cave Beach

Phra nang beach krabi thailand travel guide

Stop 3: Diamond Cave

While you are on Railay head over to the Diamond Cave . It is located on the east side of the beach and is only about a 10-15 minute walk away from where they drop you off. Diamond Cave gets its name from the pretty glittery crystals that you can see shining on the walls and ceiling. It is estimated to be over 10,000 years old!

When I visited in 2023 it was 40 baht per person (less than a dollar) to enter. You will want to wear your shoes and be ready to be amazed. And if you are wondering if is krabi safe? It is super safe and I never encountered thefts, it is also best to go ahead and bring all of your belongings with you.

The Diamond Cave hours are 8:30 to 4:30 so plan accordingly.

Stop 3: Visit the Grotto Restaurant For Lunch

Now that you have spent a few hours exploring it is time for lunch. There are plenty of places to enjoy lunch on Railay, but the very best is the Grotto Restaurant . Walk to the west side from the Diamond Cave to the Ravadaee Resort .

You do not have to stay there to dine you are more than welcome. But it is best to make a reservation on the day you are planning to go.

Now on to the good stuff. The Grotto is on a limestone cliff with a romantic vibe with a view of the Andaman Sea. I ordered the shrimp appetizer and mussels pasta and it was done perfectly. It is more expensive than other places, but it is your first day in Krabi, treat yourself!

Also, check out the best restaurants in Krabi Town for other dining options.

Stop 4: Head Back to Ao Nang For Shopping

Next up on our travel guide to Krabi is to take the long tail boat back to Ao Nang. While you are here it is the perfect excuse to do a little shopping. There are all types of shops from local vendors on the street to high-class shopping.

We got the famous elephant shirts for 100 Baht ($3), and the cutest flip-flops I’ve ever had for $7 and if I had room in my travel bookbag I would have bought more. But being a digital nomad comes with its ups and downs like that.

Did you know that weed in Thailand is legal? Check out my high guide for weed in Krabi!

Stop 5: Krabi Night Market in Ao Nang Beach

After you are done shopping till you drop, it is time on our itinerary to Krabi to grab some street food at the night market. You cannot miss the market, it is right along the beachfront. It opens up around 5 p.m. and stays open until 10 .

You will find any and every type of food here. I started my meal off with chicken skewers, cheese french fries, and Massaman curry . There is a big restaurant-type stand where you can order fresh curries and ice cream as well.

Since I spent a month in Krabi, I went back here many times. I can also recommend the salted pressed fish cooked over an open flame . You may want to share this with a friend or come super hungry. There are also amazing sushi rolls, silly corndogs with fun toppings, and a whole section of Halal food.

Take a few minutes to do a lap before you order anything you do not want to fill up before you get a chance to check it all out. Do not leave this off of your itinerary for Krabi it is one of the very best things to do.

Day 2: Krabi Island Hopping Tour

When it comes to Krabi day trips you have to go island hopping . There are a few different ways to go about island hopping. I was lucky enough to have friends in town that I met through a co-working group in Turkey. So we booked a private boat and the tour guide took care of everything for us.

We got lunch, water, and a day full of fun. We all brought snacks and pitched in with drinks and a few joints on the boat. Weed is legal in Thailand if you don’t already know.

We paid about $30 USD each, but there were 8 of us. You can also head down to the beach in Ao Nang and ask for a long-tail boat for the day! But the island of Thailand Krabi guide you have to check out are the following:

Stop 1: Poda Island is one of the Most Popular Islands in Krabi

The first stop on your Krabi travel Itinerary island tour is Poda Island . This is one of the prettiest islands with a white sandy beach and beautiful clear water for snorkeling .

This is the island you will see on the postcards and the most popular photos of Krabi. Be sure to bring your phone and have it charged you will not want to miss your Instagram-worthy photos!

You can click here to book a speed boat tour if you are not into long tails!

Stop 2: Chicken Island for Fun Photos and the Sandbar

Next up is Chicken Island. This is a great stop for snorkeling with colorful fish and relaxing on the scheduled beach. This island gets its name because the top of it looks like a chicken’s head and neck. This is also all over insta and you will want to grab a few photos here.

Most tour guides will give you about 30 minutes here before heading on to the next stop on the Krabi island tour.

Click here to book the tour!

Stop 3: Tup Island is right next to Chicken Island

After Chicken Island ask your captain to take you to Tup Island . This is a tiny island with no accommodations or places to eat. But that is what makes it one of the best day trips from Krabi. During low tide, there is a sandbar that connects Tup to Chicken Island that you can easily cross.

Ask your captain to plan your stops accordingly so you will be able to walk across the islands. You will feel like a luxurious Tom Hanks on Castaway.

Be sure to bring a cover-up, swimming shirt, hat, and sunnies on your boat tour . A whole day in the sun can be daunting and you will for sure want to cover up. This is also a great spot to stop for lunch it is about halfway through your day out on the water.

boats on the Krabi travel Itinerary in the clear waters

Stop 4: Hong Island is one of the Very best Islands off Krabi

Take a short ride over from Tup Island and check out Hong Island. This is a part of the Than Bok Khorani National Park. There is a small entrance fee of 300 baht ($8) to get in.

The beach is separated into two sections by a big rock in the middle. The sand is extra soft and white here and it is an amazing last top on your island day of the Krabi travel Itinerary.

Ask your boat captain to take you back to the pier and head back to your accommodation. Take a power nap, shower, and change your clothes. Grab a coffee or beer and you are ready to get back out there.

If you are looking for another island in Thailand, off the beaten path Ko Yao Yai island is an amazing one to check out!

Stop 5: Back to the Ao Nang Krabi Nightlife

Since you explored Ao Nang the night before, tonight you may be ready to party. I have put together my favorite Krabi Nightlife spots!

The best places to grab a drink or joint are on the strip in Ao Nang. One of my favorite krabi hidden gems to visit while I was here was the Joy Beach Cafe .

It has a laid-back vibe and it is right on the beach. Try to get there in time for sunset, it is the perfect way to end your beach day. It is about 15-20 minutes outside of Ao Nang Mueang Krabi district.

If you are looking for more of a party vibe you can check out K-Hostel on the strip , or the Jamaican Bar right down the way. The Hostel always has the hippest DJs and they have bar crawls three times a week (It is a great way to make friends).

The Jamaican bar has amazing live music every night. Take your pick between these three places to have the perfect night out on your Krabi travel Itinerary.

Sidenote: There is also a 7-island tour with a BBQ dinner at sunset if you want to spend the entire day on the water.

Day 3: in Krabi Travel Guide Out in the Jungle, Hiking & Krabi Town

Your last day on your 3 days 2 nights Krabi itinerary is a chill day out in nature. Although Krabi is an amazing city with so much to do, the real treasure is outside of the city. Sleep in or get up early to beat the crowds.

Stop 1: Krabi Klong Thom Hot Springs to Recover

If you stayed out too late the night before you are going to need to head to the Krabi Klong Thom Hot Springs first . It is out in the jungle and is known for its special healing powers . This is due to the minerals in the water.

The water at the Klong Thom Hot Springs is warm because the water runs through the thermal chambers of the volcanic chambers.

Sit in the hot springs and relax. There are different-sized pools that will leave your skin feeling soft and heal any sunburn you may have gotten the day before. The springs are open all year long and there is a small fee (of 200 baht $5 per person) to enter.

a girl walking along the beaches with a green bathing suite and cute hat

Stop 2: Emerald Pool or Kra Morakot is a must-visit

One of the best things on your 3 days itinerary in Krabi is the Emerald Pool . This is also located in the Thung Teao Forrest. It is one of the most famous attractions in Krabi for the beautiful clear but green water.

It is surrounded by a dense forest and you have to walk the nature trails to get there. You may run into a large variety of birds, monkeys, and plenty of butterflies.

You can only swim in the designated areas, but trust me it is enough. If you do anything on this Thailand krabi guide please make it the Emerald Pool, it was one of my very favorite things.

Stop 3: Floating Restaurant at Klong Prasong for Lunch

The Floating Restaurant at Klong Prasong is one of the best places to stop after visiting the Emerald Pools. It is close by and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The restaurant is on a floating raft-like structure and boasts beautiful views of the Andaman.

The food was very fresh and they used local ingredients. They have yummy Thai food, and a few international dishes to pick from. If you have time before your next stop you could book a canal tour of the Klong Prasong canal here as well.

rice and veggies on a white plate with cucumbers

Stop 4: Tiger Cave Temple Hike Day Itinerary

If you are not too tired after your day of relaxation in the jungle, the Tiger Cave Temple hike or the Wat Tham is an amazing and heart-pounding adventure. When I arrived they wanted to sign in and asked if could donate any money. I gave a few baht, but it’s free and you do not have to pay anything.

I say my was heart pounding because you have to walk up 1260 steps to get to the top. It is almost straight up the whole time and does not be afraid to take breaks. I probably took 5.

Once you reach the top you will be greeted by an amazingly huge large golden Buddha . You have to take your shoes off to walk around the temple grounds and be careful because the resident monkey almost stole mine. And on that note, wear comfy shoes , you can do it in flops but you will regret it.

There are so many different things to check out once you get there. Including the spectacular view of the Krabi mountain ranges. I was there at sunset and it did not disappoint. If you are planning on going around sunset as I did, bring a headlap or make sure your phone is charged because walking down at night is very dark and full of monkeys.

big Buddha at the tiger cave in krabi

Stop 5: Head to the Krabi Night Market

Since the other two nights you will be chilling in Ao Nang, you should go to Krabi Town for your last night . For the perfect last night out on your Krabi Thailand travel guide head to the Krabi night market, also known as the walking street, if you are in town on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

Here you will find the very best traditional Thai street food. My favorite dish was green curry, although you can get that anywhere. Plus, the market is right on the main Marhaht Road, and the entire area is closed down.

Enjoy walking around listening to the live street performances. There are also so many more vendors to grab all your souvenirs, freshly squeezed juices, and flavorful iced teas. One of my favorite things about my time in Thailand was how seriously they took their drinks.

If you are not visiting on the weekend you could head to one of the many rooftop restaurants for dinner. My favorite restaurant was the Gecko Cabane Restaurant . It is very cozy and you can get a large variety of seafood here and it is right in the middle of town.

I ordered the shrimp Pad Thai and it was fresh and filling. Mix this Krabi travel Itinerary up to ensure you visit the night market if you can, it is a special experience that you will surely love.

4 Days in Krabi Trip Itinerary

I have updated this article for 4 days 3 nights Krabi itinerary. I feel like taking a tour to Phi Phi is to important to leave out! And even though I made this list for 4 days, you never know how many days to spend in Krabi!

4 days itinerary in krabi

Wat Kaew Korawaram

Since this could be the last day of your Krabi 4 days trip, you should check out Krabis biggest wat, the Wat Kaew Korawaram.

Visiting Wat Kaew Korawaram in Krabi Town, Thailand, this is a serene and enriching cultural experience that cannot be missed! It’s perched on a hill above Krabi, this largest Buddhist temple offers panoramic views of downtown Krabi.

The temple’s architecture, while simpler than most Thai temples, exudes a unique charm. Inside, you’ll find a peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for reflection and relaxation. This Wat dates back to 1887, and provides not just a visual treat, but also a glimpse into the region’s past. Remember, you must dress in respectful clothing is necessary for entry.

  • Krabi trip package to the wat with a city tour and massage at the end.

Koh Phi Phi Island

Starting your journey from Krabi to Phi Phi Island by boat is nothing short of magical. As you sail off, feel the wind whips through your hair and the breathtaking beauty of water unfolds all around you.

When you arrive at the Phi Phi Islands, you will be immediately greeted by crystal-clear waters and sea cliffs that seem to kiss the sky. Your tour includes stops at several islands. My favorite was the Pileh Lagoon. Here you will want to take a dip and snorkel with the colorful fish and coral, creating a magical underwater experience. Meanwhile, ‘The Beach’ area offers the perfect spot to sit in the sun.

When it’s time for lunch, your boat will provide a buffet with Thai food and fruit right on the beach.

The highlight of the tour is the visit to Maya Bay. This spot, made famous by the film ‘The Beach’, is a sight to behold.

Best Restaurants in Krabi

So I didn’t give you spots for all your meals, but I have put together a list of the best restaurants in Krabi .

  • Jenna’s Bistro & Wine : is highly recommended for its Western food offerings with a touch of Asian flavors.
  • Lae Lay Grill : Known for its exceptional seafood, Lae Lay Grill also offers stunning views, particularly at sunset. And it is tucked away from the crowds.
  • Ruen Mai Restaurant : Located in Klong Chilat, Ruen Mai offers a taste of authentic Thai cuisine.

Best Time to Visit Krabi Guide Blog

Nightlife in Krabi Town and Ao Nang

Krabi n ightlife can be both laid-back and wild. Enjoy live music at hotspots like Booze Bar and Joy Bar. For craft beer lovers, Hobby Hops Craft Beer Bar and Restaurant is a great spot, and Fubar 2 provides a fun night out experience.

In Ao Nang, the nightlife is more wild. Popular spots include Bamboo Bar, Boogie Bar, and Ao Nang Center Point. Amy’s Bar in Soi RCA, Tribe Beach Bar, and Bang Bang Bar are also hotspots. For a different kind of night experience, try Krabi Pub Crawl and Local Market Krabi. This is the area where people who backpack to Krabi hang out.

Which Tourist SIM Card is Best for Krabi Travel

Airalo.com is my favorite e-sim to use when traveling. It is so simple to use, all you have to do it download the app and install it on your phone, and as soon as you enter the Thai phone lines it automatically connects.

If your phone is not compatible with E-sims, then I suggest that you find a store and grab a Dtac sim card . I have done this at the airport, 7-11’s, malls, and local shops. They all helped me insert my SIM card and set it up.

  • Click here to find the e-sim from Airalo.com that works for your trip to Krabi!

What to Pack for Krabi

  • Lightweight Clothing : The weather in Krabi is generally hot and humid, so lightweight, breathable clothing is a must. This includes shorts, t-shirts, and lightweight dresses.
  • Swimwear : You’ll likely spend a lot of time at the beach, so don’t forget your swimwear! I usually pack at least 3 bathing suits.
  • Sun Protection : Bring a hat, sunglasses, and a high-SPF sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. Finding sunscreen there may be a bit cheaper, but you never know!
  • Comfortable Footwear : If you plan on hiking or a lot of walking, bring comfortable shoes. Flip flops or sandals are also a must for the beach.
  • Rain Jacket/Poncho : If you’re visiting during the rainy season, it’s a good idea to bring a lightweight rain jacket or poncho.
  • Mosquito Repellent : To protect against mosquito bites, especially at night.
  • Travel Adapter : Thailand uses type A, B, C, and O plugs, so you will need an adapter.
  • Beach Towel : Some hotels provide these, but not all do, so it’s a good idea to pack one just in case. I really like the lightweight ones that roll up very small.
  • Toiletries : Including travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, and any other personal hygiene items you may need. I like buying my stuff once I get to Thailand, its cheap and you don’t have to worry about bringing it along with you.

Where is Krabi in Thailand?

Krabi is located in Southern Thailand on the western side of the country. It has an airport and port making it an easy location to get to on your trip through Thailand. I easily got here from Chiang Mai on an easy 2-hour domestic flight. The flight from Bangkok to Krabi is even shorter coming in around 1 hour and 20 minutes.

It is right on the Andaman Sea and is a perfect location for island hopping, and soaking in the sun on the beaches , and has plenty of amazing restaurants to choose from. Krabi is close to the popular island of Phuket but is quieter and more relaxing.

How Many Days Do You Need in Krabi Thailand?

phi phi island overlook with a sign that says I love Phi Phi islands in colorful letters

Three days in Krabi should be enough to knock out all the best things to do. Although you could spend 1 week in Krabi here if you are a slow traveler. how many days in krabi you spend is totally up to you!

Is Krabi worth Visiting?

drone photo of Krabi thailand

es! Krabi is by far one of the best places to visit in Thailand. There are cultural experiences, a fun nightlife scene, and plenty of places to escape the city life on the beach. It is more relaxed than some of the islands in Thailand and very affordable.

Do not hesitate to book your trip to Krabi and you will love it just as much as I did. A few more of my favorite places in Thailand or the Koh Samui beaches, and Chiang Mai is my favorite for the community.

Is Krabi or Phuket Nicer?

abbey sitting in a tree on the beach in krabi thailand

Both Krabi and Phuket are nice and offer beautiful beaches and attractions. Phuket is larger, more developed, and offers a vibrant nightlife, making it popular with partygoers. Krabi, on the other hand, is quieter and less crowded, offering a more relaxed atmosphere and stunning natural beauty. Your choice depends on your personal preference for either a lively or tranquil beach holiday.

Is Krabi Worth Going to?

boats on the Krabi travel Itinerary in the clear waters

Yes! Absolutely, Krabi is worth going to. Krabi has stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches, clear waters for snorkeling and diving, and a very relaxed atmosphere. Additionally, it’s close to famous Thai islands like Phi Phi and James Bond Island.

Where to Stay in Krabi Town

I stayed in the center of Ao Nang and I it is the best part of town to be in. It is also the best place to be if you are going to follow this Krabi travel itinerary. There is so much to do and you are right by the best docks to see the local islands and best beaches.

You can check out this list of the best beach hotels in Krabi, or try finding your own guest house on Airbnb. The prices are so reasonable and you are going to love them.

Three Dreamy Days in Krabi

Three Dreamy Days in Krabi

October 11, 2023 by Robert Schrader Leave a Comment

Among the many questions readers ask me about Thailand , “where are the country’s best beaches?” has got to be near the top of the list. While answering this question is ultimately subjective, particularly if I try to narrow it down to an individual beach or island, one province tends to take the cake when it comes to having Thailand’s best beaches: Krabi .

Located on Thailand’s Andaman coast not far from its more famous cousin Phuket, Krabi is home not only to the town of the same name and dozens of amazing mainland beaches, but iconic islands like Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi, among others.

That’s the good news. The better news is that with my Krabi itinerary, no matter how many days to spend in Krabi you decide, you can experience a truly wide range of amazing beaches and Thailand island hopping, among the Kingdom’s other treasures. Your Krabi itinerary (3 days or longer) starts here!

Where to Stay With Three Days in Krabi

trip krabi 2023

This Krabi travel blog will suggest you spend each night of your three nights in Krabi itinerary in a different place: Railay Beach , Koh Phi Phi Don and Krabi Town, in that order. For each of these locales, I can recommend an excellent hotel from personal experience. Sunrise Tropical Resort in Railay, for example, feels secluded and private (TIP: Splurge and get the villa!) even though it’s just steps from the area’s most popular attractions (and cheaper than many equally luxurious Krabi beach hotels).  Phi Phi View Point Resort lives up to its name with a stunning panorama, and its height also immunizes you from much of the island’s noise. Sasi House in Krabi Town initially appears simple and unremarkable, but has an understate charm and glamour that belie its humble exterior.

What to Do in Krabi for 3 Days

Day one: rock walls and penis caves.

After arriving at Krabi Airport, get a taxi or share van to Ao Nammao Pier , where you’ll board a long-tail boat to Railay Beach . Railay is most famous as the rock-climbing capital of Krabi province, but there are plenty of adventures to be had, even if you have a fear of heights. The hotel I’ve recommended above is located at the more charming and secluded Railay East , but Railay West is actually home to the best beaches (at high tide, the only beaches!) of the peninsula—and, in my opinion, the best Krabi beach overall, at least among those I’ll mention in this Krabi blog.

trip krabi 2023

Get a bird’s eye view of this land mass (and a small dose of climbing—yes, ropes are involved!) by climbing up to the View Point , which provides a stunning panorama.  Come down, then walk under several karstic caves (photograph the monkeys, but don’t feed them) and arrive at the Phra Nang Caves , which are not only a great vantage point for sunset, but are filled with penis carvings that are purported to bring virility to men and fertility to women. (NOTE: If you won’t have time for Krabi island hopping during your Krabi itinerary 3 days or longer, you could stop here and use what I’ve written so far as a Krabi 1 day itinerary!)

Day Two: The Beach

Rise early on your second of three days in Krabi, then head to Railway West where you’ll catch your ferry from Krabi to Phi Phi . Famous, among other things, for being home to the limestone karst beach from The Beach , Koh Phi Phi possesses an iconic beauty, but you should also be prepared for your visit here: It’s incredibly crowded, to the point of being unbearable some parts of the year. (TIP: If seeing “the beach” is not a huge priority for you, you might spend your second of 3 days in Krabi in Koh Lanta instead.)

trip krabi 2023

Indeed, as is the case for seeing Krabi in 3 days in general, your task-list for Koh Phi Phi is simple: 1) Join a tour (preferably the sunset one, which departs at 2 p.m.) bound for Koh Phi Phi Leh , the island that’s home to the beach; 2) Ascend the aptly-named View Point (ideally the next morning, before catching your ferry back to Krabi Town) to enjoy a panorama of the narrow strip of land that separates the main beaches of Koh Phi Phi Don. An alternative option would be to book a “Four Island” day trip online or at any travel agency in Railay, which will include the magnificent Poda Island among less spectacular ones during your Krabi 3 day itinerary.

Day Three: 1,272 Steps to Nirvana

Krabi Town often gets overlooked, and for good reason—well, good reason for the town itself, even if you don’t want to spend all 3 days in Krabi Town. Within the parameters of this itinerary, inland Krabi province, on the other hand, is definitely worth a day of your time. To make the most of the third day of your Krabi itinerary, get the first ferry of the day from Phi Phi’s Tonsai Beach to Klong Jilad Pier , the one closest to the Krabi hotel I recommend above.

trip krabi 2023

To be sure, assuming you’re working within a Krabi 3 days itinerary, you’ll arrive in town too late to join a tour to the places I’m recommending, but if you have more than two people, the price will be almost the same. A taxi to the Emerald Pool , Hot Spring Waterfall and Wat Tham Suea should cost no more than 2,200 baht, unless you book this awesome Krabi day tour here . (TIP: If you can, time your trip to Wat Tham Suea around sunset. It’s 1,272 steps to the top, so there’s a practical element—it’ll be cooler and thus easier—to this suggestion, as well as an esoteric one: Your pictures from the summit will be absolutely stunning bathed in end-of-day light, and some of the best of your Krabi 3 day itinerary.)

Krabi vs. Phuket

Although this Krabi 3 days article outlines what to do in Krabi, I couldn’t help but comment on the ongoing Krabi vs. Phuket discussion. In my opinion, there is no competition. In addition to the fact that Krabi still manages to attract only a small portion of the tourists Phuket gets (the island is quite literally infested), Krabi beaches are better than Phuket beaches.

I also highly prefer Krabi Town, which is laid back and authentic, whereas Phuket Town feels both fake and uptight at the same time. As far I’m concerned, when it comes to Krabi vs. Phuket, there’s no competition! What to do in Krabi for 3 days is simply more satisfying.

Other FAQ About Visiting Krabi

How many days do you need in krabi.

Although I’ve written this post about three days in Krabi, I recommend staying as long in the province as you want. For example, you could divide a week in Krabi between mainland beaches such as Ao Nang and Railay, plus Koh Phi Phi. With 10 days in Krabi, you can also spend time on Koh Lanta island. At the end of the day, of course, how many days in Krabi is secondary to what you make of the days you do spend there.

Is it worth staying in Krabi Town?

Although Krabi Town is charming, the only way you’d really want to stay there is if you want to explore attractions of inland Krabi province, such as the Sa Morakot Emerald Pool or Wat Tham Suea temple. Otherwise, it’s really better to stay in Railay or Ao Nang, so that you can enjoy the beach.

Is 2 weeks in Krabi too long?

Two weeks in Krabi is not too long, assuming you plan to explore the province extensively. For instance, while you might get bored if you spent 2 weeks sunbathing and rock climbing in Railay, dividing 2 weeks in Krabi between the mainland, plus Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta, would be an intensely satisfying trip.

The Bottom Line

Is Krabi province home to Thailand’s best beaches? That’s for you to decide. But if you’re seeking sun, surf and scenery, there are few better ways in Thailand to achieve that than by following my three days in Krabi itinerary—one night in Railay and one night in Koh Phi Phi, followed by a day exploring the province’s inland treasures, are just what any sane doctor might order. Alternatively, if you don’t feel satisfied by what to do in Krabi in 3 days, you could choose another answer for how long to stay in Krabi. In fact, you can spend up to one week in Krabi , by taking my Krabi itinerary (3 days, or however long you decide to spend) more slowly than I have.

Tup Island (Tale Wek) – relax, make photos and swim at the Thailand’s famous place

Chicken Island (Koh Gai) - popular location for photos and excellent snorkeling

Poda Island - white, sandy beach, ideal for sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling

Railay Phra Nang Cave and Beach – beautiful sandy beach and famous princess cave

Discover some of the most picturesque islands near Krabi on a day trip by longtail boat, with stops for swimming and snorkeling in clear blue waters. Relax on tranquil beaches and snap fantastic photos of the stunning scenery.

Start the tour directly from your hotel in Krabi with pickup by minivan. Meet the crew and board the wooden longtail boat at Nopparat Thara Pier in Ao Nang. Head over to the first of the four islands, with a short stopover at Railay Beach to pick up fellow explorers.

Visit the world-renowned Phra Nang Cave Beach on Railay. Admire views of vertical limestone cliffs, lush green jungle, white beaches, and clear turquoise waters. Visit the Princess Cave at the end of the beach, where fishermen make offerings in the form of incense and flowers to ensure safe voyages.

Continue to Poda Island, famous for its white beaches and turquoise water. Spot the huge rock in front of the island, featured on countless postcards, so don’t miss the opportunity to snap your own photo memory here. After some swimming and snorkeling, enjoy a Thai-style boxed picnic lunch on the beach. Next, cruise around the “head” of Chicken Island, notable for the oddly-shaped rocky outcrop that gave it its name. Here also makes for an excellent photo opportunity.

The next stop is at Koh Tub where you can walk across the spectacular sandbar that connects it to the Chicken and Mor Islands nearby. After your stroll, head back on the return leg of your adventure to the pier in Ao Nang.
